- Disney Security’s Unofficial Challenge Coins Are a Different Sort of Collector’s Item
- https://io9.gizmodo.com/disney-securitys-unofficial-challenge-coins-are-a-diffe-1845750767
- https://bit.ly/37cqHtY
- As the owner of a substantial portion of the world’s most popular pieces of intellectual property, the Walt Disney Company is more than used to seeing its characters and branding pop up in unofficial, unlicensed places. In some instances, like when the family of a recently deceased child attempted to feature Spider-Man’s likeness on his gravestone, the company has stepped in to bar people from using its IP in ways it doesn’t see fit. Others? Not so much.
- In cases like those involving companies that produce police-related merchandise featuring the Punisher logo, Marvel and its parent company Disney have remained relatively quiet on the matter, despite the charged political connotations those items carry. Though Disney’s undeniably powerful, the megacorporation would still be hard-pressed to fully crack down on people creating and selling these things. But a recent story from the military website Task & Purpose—which delved into the popularity of challenge coins among Disney parks’ security staff—raises questions about what the company’s policy should be about its employees potentially carrying them while working within its theme parks. One unofficial coin featured on the website features a mashup of Mickey Mouse and Punisher iconography with “Disneyland Security” emblazoned on the front.
- Challenge coins are small, commemorative medallions often distributed within a wide range of organizations as symbols of membership and camaraderie fostered through “challenges” in which people are required to show their coins on demand to prove that they’re carrying them. There are varying rules on what happens if you’re found without your coin depending on the group you’re playing with. Most commonly, challenge coins have been associated with the military and its culture, which is at least part of why Disney currently has a sanctioned selection of them that a number of its park security personnel reportedly carry.
- Speaking with Task & Purpose, a Walt Disney World representative explained that its official challenge coins are part of its efforts to embrace the traditions held dear by its “security departments and other areas where military veterans have come to work after their service.” It’s important to understand that challenge coins aren’t exactly readily available to the general public, as they’re meant to be special items that represent the bond between a select group of people—in this case, those working security for Disney.
- There is nothing inherently wrong with challenge coins, and it makes a degree of sense that Disney would produce the coins for them to collect and trade, as collecting is a huge part of its brand already. What’s somewhat concerning, though, are the number of unofficial challenge coins using characters like Mickey Mouse and the Punisher to not only associate the people holding them with Disney and Marvel at a glance, but also with a certain stance on policing. Though its defenders have argued that the thin blue line iconography is meant to represent the idea that police are the line of defense maintaining society’s order, it has also come to represent an insular culture within police departments across the country that fosters a system rife with corruption, brutality, and human rights violations that law enforcement officials seldom have to answer for.
- It should be noted that none of the challenge coins pictured in this piece are part of Disney’s official set, and all custom coins that staffers have made for use are subject to an internal review process should they include any of the company’s intellectual property. We’ve reached out to Disney asking for comment about this piece and clarification on what their official coins look like, but did not hear back by time of publishing.
- Coins like these are seemingly anything but difficult to come by, which suggests that there’s either a glut of them sitting in sellers’ warehouses or that people are out there buying them, presumably to carry, as that’s the whole point of challenge coins. It’s also quite possible that there are regular people not employed by Disney who simply felt that these specific challenge coins were the perfect reflection of their personal tastes. Considering which market custom challenge coins celebrating the cops and the House of Mouse is aimed at, however, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that people are carrying them within Disney’s parks.
- McDonald’s has temporarily stopped distributing its Disney World-themed toys because they included QR codes that led to ‘unintended search results’ when scanned
- https://www.insider.com/mcdonalds-disney-happy-meal-toys-recalled-2020-11
- https://bit.ly/3q8u6mj
- McDonald’s has temporarily stopped distributing its Disney World line of Happy Meal toys.
- WDW News Today previously reported that it learned through an “internal McDonald’s Restaurant Brief Alert” that the toys included faulty QR codes that led to error messages and “unintended search results” when scanned outside of the McDonald’s app.
- In a statement sent to Insider, representatives for McDonald’s USA said the company regrets that its “current Happy Meal promotion did not operate as intended.”
- The toys will return to McDonald’s locations this week, though customers said on Twitter that they could not purchase them as recently as yesterday.
- Early this week, Disney fans and McDonald’s customers began to speculate that the toys — which have figurines of classic characters inside miniature ride vehicles — had been recalled after unsuccessfully attempting to purchase them at restaurants. Others who purchased Happy Meals said they were given different toys after being told by McDonald’s staff that the Disney collection was recalled.
- According to an internal McDonald’s memo obtained by WDW News Today, distribution of the toys was halted because they included QR codes that led to “unintended search results” when scanned outside of the McDonald’s app.
- In a statement sent to Insider over email, a representative for McDonald’s USA said the company regrets that its “current Happy Meal promotion did not operate as intended,” resulting in some customers receiving “generic toys.”
- “QR codes on game tickets packaged with the toys were intended to allow for parents to engage in the Happy Meal experience and enter a chance-to-win sweepstakes through the McDonald’s app as instructed on the packaging,” the statement said.
- “We sincerely apologize that some customers who tried to enter outside the app experienced a technical glitch that in most cases led to an error message or, in limited instances, to unintended search results, and we’ve been in touch with these customers,” the statement continued.
- The McDonald’s representative added that the company has taken “immediate steps to remove toys with the game pieces” from restaurants, and provide customers with “Happy Meal toys without the game tickets/QR codes.”
- “We regret any delay in getting new toys to our teams,” the statement said. “We will continue to honor the sweepstakes promotion.”
- WDW News Today learned of the halt through an “internal McDonald’s Restaurant Brief Alert,” according to a report published on Monday.
- “There is an issue with the QR codes that are packaged with the Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway toys,” the memo reportedly said. “If the codes are scanned outside of our app (versus the McDonald’s app as directed), they may lead users to an error message, or in rare cases, unintended search results.”
- McDonald’s customers and Disney fans have said on Twitter that the QR codes led to pornographic websites when scanned outside of the McDonald’s app, though the food company and Disney have not yet confirmed or denied the claims.
- The publication went on to report that toys without the QR codes should already be arriving at McDonald’s locations, though “restaurants are being told to use generic Happy Meal boxes and generic toys” in the meantime.

- THE MANDALORIAN IS DOING ONE STORYTELLING TRICK THE STAR WARS MOVIES NEVER COULD
- https://www.inverse.com/entertainment/mandalorian-season-2-genres-star-wars
- https://bit.ly/3mincZk
- WHEN STAR WARS RELEASES A NEW FLAGSHIP MOVIE, the world pays attention. However, the movie itself is usually pretty predictable. There are going to be Jedi, they’re going to fight the Sith, there’s going to be multiple planets, some sort of galactic warfare, and finally a lightsaber battle. This formula isn’t a flaw — in fact, it’s a recipe that’s proven hugely popular time after time even as critics complained of Star Wars fatigue.
- Then, The Mandalorian premiered. Instead of using Star Wars’s tried and true formula to tell a single type of story, it adopted countless others. Here’s how it’s changing the way we think about Star Wars, and how that could alter the course of the entire franchise.
- While Star Wars as a whole is known as a space opera, The Mandalorian is undeniably a space western. Instead of telling an epic story of good vs. evil, our hero Din Djarin finds himself constantly filling the role of mysterious masked stranger rolling into town, helping out those along the way with his trusty sidekick. It’s basically The Lone Ranger, but in space.
- As this format allows for a different adventure every week, it grants co-creators Jon Favreau and David Filoni (along with a small platoon of talented directors) the ability to use Mando and Baby Yoda as constants in a show that isn’t only changing settings every week, but changing genres. This is especially noticeable in The Mandalorian Season 2.
- The Season 2 premiere, “The Marshal,” doubled down on space western. From top to tail, it was reminiscent of a John Wayne movie, complete with the indigenous Tusken Raiders taking the place of Native Americans. The Mandalorian even managed to evolve the genre a bit by showing the people of Mos Pelgo working together with the Native people, despite their tensions, which wasn’t usually seen in classic Westerns.
- Episode 2, “The Passenger,” shifted gears entirely, with Mando playing taxi driver to Frog Lady as she sought a better life on a new planet. Just like in other sci-fi “taxi driver” movies like The Fifth Element, our hero gets embroiled in her quest as she seeks to keep her eggs warm, resulting in a terrifying ice spider encounter.
- Finally, in Episode 3, “The Heiress,” Mando and Baby Yoda successfully deliver Frog Lady to the water planet of Trask. What genre do you adopt when you’re on a water planet? Pirates, of course! Mando is recruited by Bo-Katan Kryze on a swashbuckling mission to overtake an Empire remnant ship in exchange for information on Ahsoka Tano.
- All three of these episodes feel completely distinct. “The Marshal” uses a lot of wide shots of the landscape and a twangy score. “The Passenger” keeps its interior shots very restrained to emphasize how claustrophobic the long trip really is. “The Heiress” used many nautical tropes in its spaceship takeover, including a captain willing to go down with his ship. By adopting these genres, The Mandalorian is proving just how diverse the Star Wars universe — and its storytelling — can be.
- The Mandalorian has changed the definition of the term “Star Wars story” from a subgenre to a toolbox. It turns out you don’t need Force users to tell an interesting story, though an adorable green one certainly won’t hurt. The lore of conflicts and galactic forces can remain in the background as we learn the day-to-day lives of beings who would otherwise get neglected.
- With the success of The Mandalorian’s genre-hopping, perhaps the Star Wars universe can start evolving its movies too. Taika Waititi could direct a buddy cop movie about stormtroopers, Rian Johnson can take on a Mon Calamari murder mystery, and Leslye Headland’s upcoming series could be a heartfelt drama about a young Yaddle trying to break the glass ceiling as the first female Jedi Council member.
- There will always be demand for the big space opera stories we’ve seen in the main nine Star Wars movies. But the tools used to tell those stories — the planets, species, characters, and “rules” — deserve to be used as creatively as possible. The Mandalorian is finally starting to show just how universal the Star Wars universe can be.

- $100K raised for namesake of Arlo Guthrie’s Thanksgiving classic ‘Alice’s Restaurant’

- Well-wishers have donated more than $100,000 to help Alice Brock — the artist and former cook immortalized by folk singer Arlo Guthrie in his classic Thanksgiving Day tune “Alice’s Restaurant Massacree.”
- Nearly 2,000 people pitched in over the last two months to a GoFundMe for the 80-year-old hippie, who’s been hit by hard times since the 1967 release of Guthrie’s 18-minute talking blues ballad.
- “It’s been tremendous. God, what a relief,” Brock told The Post on Thursday about the outpouring of support.
- The Brooklyn-born woman’s home and former diner in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, were the setting of Guthrie’s song about how the singer’s 1965 Thanksgiving Day arrest for littering kept him out of the Army during the Vietnam War.
- “You can get anything you want at Alice’s restaurant,” the ballad begins.
- A comedy film based on the song, “Alice’s Restaurant,” came out in 1969, and Brock, who didn’t want to play herself on the big screen, took a part as an extra.
- “People used to say, ‘oh my mother knows who you are,’ now they say, ‘my grandmother knows who you are,’” Brock quipped about her status as a folk icon.
- After the flick and closing her diner, Brock opened a larger restaurant called Alice’s at Avaloch in 1976 and continued to give back to her community, Boston radio WBUR-FM reported.
- “There are very few things I wouldn’t give to people. So if somebody asked me for a job, I gave them a job — and especially if they really needed a job — like the people on parole or people who didn’t have rent money,” she told the station in a recent interview.
- When the eatery went under in the late 1970s, Brock moved to Provincetown, working as a prep cook at night and pursuing her art during the day.
- But the cash dried up and she struggled to pay the mortgage, ultimately having to sell her house and moving in with a friend who later died, the outlet reported.
- Brock found a rental about two years ago — but was then hospitalized with heart disease. She also suffers from a lung condition, emphysema and tremors in her hands, which now keep her from being able to draw.
- After spending a year in the hospital and a nursing home, Brock is back in her cottage but needed help to pay her rent.
- That’s when her pal Dini Lamot, a member of the 1970s and ’80s Boston new wave band Human Sexual Response, stepped in and created the online fundraiser, which had raised $105,275 of its $120,000 goal as of Thursday.
- “With the money that raised I’ll be able to live decently for the next two or three years,” Brock told The Post.
- The reluctant legend said she was embarrassed by her friend’s GoFundMe plan, but that she was “humbled” by the support from friends and fans.
- “It’s delightful that people feel that way about me,” she said, “but some of it is over the top.”

- The late greatly missed Stan Lee was known for his creativity, his kindness, and his incredible moral compass. He was also known for speaking his mind. Lee’s former sound engineer Aaron Fromm captured the very essence of Lee in a recording that showcases the Marvel legend going off on a hilariously profane rant that had everyone in the studio laughing.
- Fromm collaborated with artist Kosperry to animate this oddly heartwarming glimpse into the man’s great mind, calling it “Sessions with Stan”.
- It’s a quick 1:38 animated video that is NSFW but totally worth a listen if you are a fan of Stan!

hi everyone do you know where i came up
0:01:09.040,0:01:12.799
with the terms this week
0:01:10.400,0:01:15.920
yes and where do they come up with them
0:01:12.799,0:01:19.759
the social interaction we had with our
0:01:15.920,0:01:23.439
family this past thanksgiving yes
0:01:19.759,0:01:26.320
we uh obviously are like everyone else
0:01:23.439,0:01:28.000
under quarantine to a certain extent we
0:01:26.320,0:01:31.119
uh normally go away for
0:01:28.000,0:01:34.000
thanksgiving dinner locally we don’t
0:01:31.119,0:01:35.280
usually right right we don’t fly or yeah
0:01:34.000,0:01:37.280
what’s that an hour or
0:01:35.280,0:01:40.240
15 minutes or something like that 15
0:01:37.280,0:01:43.520
hour and a half so we’ll drive up to uh
0:01:40.240,0:01:45.439
a friend’s mom’s house uh
0:01:43.520,0:01:46.640
our adoptive parents i think we can
0:01:45.439,0:01:50.159
safely say yeah
0:01:46.640,0:01:52.320
at this point yeah um and uh
0:01:50.159,0:01:54.240
it’s usually kind of a roll of the dice
0:01:52.320,0:01:55.520
as to who shows up for dinner each year
0:01:54.240,0:01:58.880
which is always fun
0:01:55.520,0:02:01.119
right right uh and we all pack into her
0:01:58.880,0:02:03.040
house there where there’s tons of food
0:02:01.119,0:02:06.000
tons of games
0:02:03.040,0:02:06.880
and much fun to be had we couldn’t do
0:02:06.000,0:02:08.720
that this year
0:02:06.880,0:02:10.080
yeah yeah this year we were all stuck at
0:02:08.720,0:02:12.239
home
0:02:10.080,0:02:13.440
but i think we kind of did a good job of
0:02:12.239,0:02:16.720
making the most of it
0:02:13.440,0:02:19.599
yeah we we started a zoom at
0:02:16.720,0:02:20.800
what 9 30 in the morning so that we
0:02:19.599,0:02:23.440
could watch the
0:02:20.800,0:02:24.080
macy’s thanksgiving parade which was
0:02:23.440,0:02:26.319
obviously
0:02:24.080,0:02:27.440
a little different slightly abbreviated
0:02:26.319,0:02:31.599
this year
0:02:27.440,0:02:34.560
um and then the family favorite
0:02:31.599,0:02:36.480
right afterwards is the dog show and
0:02:34.560,0:02:39.599
what was funny was
0:02:36.480,0:02:42.640
we were streaming through um
0:02:39.599,0:02:44.239
through zoom the dog show so
0:02:42.640,0:02:46.160
i actually was the one that was
0:02:44.239,0:02:48.319
projecting through
0:02:46.160,0:02:50.000
my laptop the dog show so that we could
0:02:48.319,0:02:53.280
all i’m sure we were watching
0:02:50.000,0:02:55.599
tons of fcc rules on that one so we
0:02:53.280,0:02:56.720
we all watched the dog show together and
0:02:55.599,0:02:59.440
then um
0:02:56.720,0:03:01.360
everybody kind of ate at different times
0:02:59.440,0:03:04.720
because we also had different time zones
0:03:01.360,0:03:08.239
right um so yeah we had so we had
0:03:04.720,0:03:10.640
two fountains two to new jersey two
0:03:08.239,0:03:11.440
maybe three because i think allison’s in
0:03:10.640,0:03:14.159
new jersey
0:03:11.440,0:03:15.680
okay also so a couple of people stayed
0:03:14.159,0:03:16.480
on for the majority of the time and then
0:03:15.680,0:03:19.440
there were
0:03:16.480,0:03:21.280
various family and friends that would
0:03:19.440,0:03:21.840
log on for just a couple of hours and
0:03:21.280,0:03:24.000
then
0:03:21.840,0:03:25.120
you know so it was very much like how we
0:03:24.000,0:03:27.680
normally would do where
0:03:25.120,0:03:29.599
right people you have a core group that
0:03:27.680,0:03:33.920
shows up for the majority of the day
0:03:29.599,0:03:36.319
right and then you have wayward spirits
0:03:33.920,0:03:37.360
just for you know dessert or something
0:03:36.319,0:03:38.159
right because like because a lot of
0:03:37.360,0:03:40.480
people have
0:03:38.159,0:03:43.040
other familiar characters right so i
0:03:40.480,0:03:46.319
think in total there were 17
0:03:43.040,0:03:49.280
people wow all together at
0:03:46.319,0:03:49.680
you know from you know um so yeah so
0:03:49.280,0:03:52.319
like
0:03:49.680,0:03:53.200
barb she was actually the first to eat
0:03:52.319,0:03:56.640
she kind of ate
0:03:53.200,0:03:57.920
lunch uh so she you know ate and then we
0:03:56.640,0:04:01.120
got to watch everybody
0:03:57.920,0:04:02.799
else prepare right um we actually
0:04:01.120,0:04:05.040
logged off to eat just so that i could
0:04:02.799,0:04:09.040
give my laptop a chance to
0:04:05.040,0:04:11.680
to charge um and then we logged back on
0:04:09.040,0:04:13.120
and you know so yeah we started out in
0:04:11.680,0:04:15.120
the morning on my ipad
0:04:13.120,0:04:16.799
right then when you had to do the
0:04:15.120,0:04:19.280
streaming of the
0:04:16.799,0:04:20.959
dog show i switched to my laptop surface
0:04:19.280,0:04:23.600
pro right
0:04:20.959,0:04:29.840
so then we had that going and then i
0:04:23.600,0:04:29.840
took it into the kitchen while
0:04:30.240,0:04:36.320
and since we did uh we didn’t do a whole
0:04:33.840,0:04:36.960
turkey we did turkey parts we only
0:04:36.320,0:04:38.639
needed an
0:04:36.960,0:04:41.120
hour to cook where you know obviously if
0:04:38.639,0:04:43.360
you’re cooking something bigger you need
0:04:41.120,0:04:44.639
you know more time so it was funny to
0:04:43.360,0:04:46.560
see everybody’s
0:04:44.639,0:04:48.560
prep time and you know what everybody
0:04:46.560,0:04:51.680
else was making and stuff
0:04:48.560,0:04:52.720
um and then after we had dinner we
0:04:51.680,0:04:54.960
logged back on
0:04:52.720,0:04:57.120
and then it was our game time because
0:04:54.960,0:04:57.759
that was probably the most creative way
0:04:57.120,0:04:59.440
of playing
0:04:57.759,0:05:01.440
games to resume i think i’ve ever seen
0:04:59.440,0:05:03.840
well and and what was funny was
0:05:01.440,0:05:06.080
i i was in charge of trying to find a
0:05:03.840,0:05:07.840
game to play so i had looked online done
0:05:06.080,0:05:08.720
a little research and there’s all these
0:05:07.840,0:05:11.199
different
0:05:08.720,0:05:12.720
websites that have oh games to play
0:05:11.199,0:05:15.039
through zoom or whatever
0:05:12.720,0:05:15.840
but all of them you know for for a good
0:05:15.039,0:05:18.720
portion of them
0:05:15.840,0:05:20.960
you had to buy the actual gate like a
0:05:18.720,0:05:23.280
hard copy of the game
0:05:20.960,0:05:24.960
and it was like well i can’t do that i
0:05:23.280,0:05:27.360
need to play this in a couple of hours
0:05:24.960,0:05:28.000
and there were a couple of online
0:05:27.360,0:05:31.120
versions
0:05:28.000,0:05:34.720
but they were kind of wonky um
0:05:31.120,0:05:37.120
the one uh there was one where
0:05:34.720,0:05:39.280
it was a an app for your phone and
0:05:37.120,0:05:41.840
basically as long as
0:05:39.280,0:05:43.759
one person was the host you could send
0:05:41.840,0:05:44.800
codes out to other people so that was
0:05:43.759,0:05:47.199
the one
0:05:44.800,0:05:48.639
i was thinking of jack box it wasn’t
0:05:47.199,0:05:51.280
jack box it’s actually
0:05:48.639,0:05:52.080
um from the same makers that do heads up
0:05:51.280,0:05:54.000
okay
0:05:52.080,0:05:56.080
and it’s kind of i think it was called
0:05:54.000,0:05:57.600
psych and it was
0:05:56.080,0:05:59.600
they would give you a question you have
0:05:57.600,0:06:01.680
to make up the answer okay and you’d
0:05:59.600,0:06:03.039
have to guess who
0:06:01.680,0:06:04.800
did that one so i thought that would
0:06:03.039,0:06:07.199
kind of be cool because that’s
0:06:04.800,0:06:07.919
kind you know we usually do those types
0:06:07.199,0:06:11.039
of
0:06:07.919,0:06:12.160
guess who said what games you know with
0:06:11.039,0:06:13.440
our group
0:06:12.160,0:06:15.039
but then i was like what about
0:06:13.440,0:06:17.039
categories and we were like yeah because
0:06:15.039,0:06:20.240
we’ve all played categories
0:06:17.039,0:06:23.440
you know before as a big family group
0:06:20.240,0:06:24.240
so what we did this this was very
0:06:23.440,0:06:27.360
creative
0:06:24.240,0:06:30.960
um so i set up my phone
0:06:27.360,0:06:34.400
in a little holder then i took a photo
0:06:30.960,0:06:37.199
holder and put the car the list
0:06:34.400,0:06:37.759
of all the categories so if you’ve
0:06:37.199,0:06:40.240
played
0:06:37.759,0:06:41.199
this category’s board game before there
0:06:40.240,0:06:43.919
are cards
0:06:41.199,0:06:45.440
with various lists so you roll a die
0:06:43.919,0:06:46.160
that has letters on there you get the
0:06:45.440,0:06:48.479
letter that
0:06:46.160,0:06:49.199
the words have to start with and then
0:06:48.479,0:06:51.759
the list
0:06:49.199,0:06:52.479
has a description of what you have to
0:06:51.759,0:06:54.639
make
0:06:52.479,0:06:56.720
a list of 10 words with that letter
0:06:54.639,0:06:59.599
right so you had the cards
0:06:56.720,0:07:01.280
right in a photo holder being streamed
0:06:59.599,0:07:02.560
from your phone that was logged into
0:07:01.280,0:07:04.560
zoom right
0:07:02.560,0:07:06.400
while we were logged in on the laptop
0:07:04.560,0:07:08.639
resume playing with everybody yeah
0:07:06.400,0:07:09.840
yeah so it was it was pretty cool and it
0:07:08.639,0:07:12.560
worked out you know
0:07:09.840,0:07:14.160
and and we we had you know somebody was
0:07:12.560,0:07:16.080
in charge of the timer
0:07:14.160,0:07:18.240
and you know once the timer went off you
0:07:16.080,0:07:21.680
know i have to say
0:07:18.240,0:07:23.440
because of the number of people we
0:07:21.680,0:07:25.280
usually have involved
0:07:23.440,0:07:27.440
and the personalities of the people who
0:07:25.280,0:07:30.319
have involved it’s usually
0:07:27.440,0:07:31.039
organized chaos in most cases and i
0:07:30.319,0:07:33.199
think
0:07:31.039,0:07:35.680
this year game time was probably the
0:07:33.199,0:07:38.479
most organized event that we had
0:07:35.680,0:07:39.360
ever right with this group of people it
0:07:38.479,0:07:41.599
was really fun
0:07:39.360,0:07:42.400
yeah so we had you know the one group
0:07:41.599,0:07:44.800
had
0:07:42.400,0:07:46.720
what there was one two three four they
0:07:44.800,0:07:50.400
had six people
0:07:46.720,0:07:54.000
at their house then there was you know
0:07:50.400,0:07:56.720
one one one and us
0:07:54.000,0:07:57.680
and the the two of us so you know it was
0:07:56.720,0:07:59.919
interesting
0:07:57.680,0:08:02.800
and then again the different time zones
0:07:59.919,0:08:05.599
so you know so we had a good portion in
0:08:02.800,0:08:07.280
uh new jersey the majority were in
0:08:05.599,0:08:11.440
pennsylvania and then
0:08:07.280,0:08:14.240
one was new mexico so i don’t think
0:08:11.440,0:08:16.080
she ended up eating until we probably
0:08:14.240,0:08:18.080
logged off because i think we were done
0:08:16.080,0:08:19.919
about three hours yeah so it was like
0:08:18.080,0:08:21.599
eight o’clock when we logged off
0:08:19.919,0:08:24.160
and they were basically just getting
0:08:21.599,0:08:26.240
pizza yeah
0:08:24.160,0:08:28.160
so it was it worked out yeah it worked
0:08:26.240,0:08:28.479
out it would have been wonderful if we
0:08:28.160,0:08:30.400
could
0:08:28.479,0:08:31.680
have all been together for the holidays
0:08:30.400,0:08:34.159
absolutely uh but
0:08:31.680,0:08:35.760
given the considerations that we had the
0:08:34.159,0:08:38.320
restrictions that we had
0:08:35.760,0:08:39.360
the desire to make sure nobody got sick
0:08:38.320,0:08:42.240
in the process
0:08:39.360,0:08:43.919
yeah um i think it worked out better
0:08:42.240,0:08:46.320
than i thought it was going to
0:08:43.919,0:08:48.160
so i was very impressed yeah and and you
0:08:46.320,0:08:49.440
know a couple of people made comments
0:08:48.160,0:08:54.000
you know like
0:08:49.440,0:08:56.000
it was with the time of year it is
0:08:54.000,0:08:58.560
and and the the the times that we’re
0:08:56.000,0:09:01.600
living in at least we were all
0:08:58.560,0:09:04.240
connected and we felt more connected
0:09:01.600,0:09:04.640
you know than we we thought we would
0:09:04.240,0:09:08.320
sure
0:09:04.640,0:09:10.000
and that you know we didn’t you know
0:09:08.320,0:09:12.000
some you know basically said i didn’t
0:09:10.000,0:09:13.760
feel as alone as i thought i
0:09:12.000,0:09:16.080
i was going to knowing that i wasn’t
0:09:13.760,0:09:18.640
going to be able to physically
0:09:16.080,0:09:20.720
yeah you figured out what eight months
0:09:18.640,0:09:23.360
nine months into this pandemic now with
0:09:20.720,0:09:24.880
people isolated in their homes people
0:09:23.360,0:09:26.399
working from home not even getting out
0:09:24.880,0:09:29.360
of the house yeah
0:09:26.399,0:09:31.600
you know if if technology can give us
0:09:29.360,0:09:34.000
that ability to capture
0:09:31.600,0:09:36.560
what is really a very intimate
0:09:34.000,0:09:38.399
experience on thanksgiving every year
0:09:36.560,0:09:40.000
yeah when we can even capture a
0:09:38.399,0:09:41.760
facsimile of that we’re
0:09:40.000,0:09:43.040
we’re doing pretty good and i think we
0:09:41.760,0:09:45.839
did pretty good this year yeah
0:09:43.040,0:09:46.560
yeah we did so that was a quick recap of
0:09:45.839,0:09:49.040
the holiday
0:09:46.560,0:09:50.080
um you know in the process of that we
0:09:49.040,0:09:53.839
had we rearranged
0:09:50.080,0:09:56.080
two rooms here we moved one 65-inch tv
0:09:53.839,0:09:58.399
upstairs set up new furniture
0:09:56.080,0:09:59.760
cleaned the whole area broke a bunch of
0:09:58.399,0:10:02.160
stuff down then today
0:09:59.760,0:10:04.000
the new tv came in for downstairs we got
0:10:02.160,0:10:05.839
that all set up so
0:10:04.000,0:10:08.399
it’s been a busy couple of days yeah
0:10:05.839,0:10:10.240
we’re tired
0:10:08.399,0:10:12.720
so if we doze off during the show we do
0:10:10.240,0:10:13.360
apologize in advance yeah it’s not you
0:10:12.720,0:10:16.160
guys it’s
0:10:13.360,0:10:19.200
you know it’s us so anyway this show we
0:10:16.160,0:10:20.880
actually do have a show here
0:10:19.200,0:10:23.120
did we do i thought we were just gonna
0:10:20.880,0:10:23.600
we we did no this isn’t the zoom call
0:10:23.120,0:10:25.600
that end
0:10:23.600,0:10:27.040
oh that ended yeah that was two days
0:10:25.600,0:10:30.079
five minutes ago or something like that
0:10:27.040,0:10:32.959
it seemed like it uh so in today’s
0:10:30.079,0:10:34.079
episode uh in our disney detective we’re
0:10:32.959,0:10:36.480
going to talk about how
0:10:34.079,0:10:38.480
disney’s double standard on unofficial
0:10:36.480,0:10:39.920
use of its intellectual property is
0:10:38.480,0:10:43.040
coming to light
0:10:39.920,0:10:45.200
we’ll also talk about the short-lived
0:10:43.040,0:10:47.120
new mcdonald’s disney happy meal toys
0:10:45.200,0:10:49.040
and what happened to them
0:10:47.120,0:10:50.959
in our tales from the edge of the galaxy
0:10:49.040,0:10:52.720
we’ll look at how mandalorian
0:10:50.959,0:10:54.240
is breaking the mold for star wars
0:10:52.720,0:10:57.760
storytelling
0:10:54.240,0:11:00.959
we will have a short
0:10:57.760,0:11:03.760
but extremely spoiler-filled
0:11:00.959,0:11:04.560
section on this week’s mando as well
0:11:03.760,0:11:07.040
armando
0:11:04.560,0:11:08.000
moments uh that works out well we might
0:11:07.040,0:11:09.839
do that
0:11:08.000,0:11:11.600
for the rest of the season which is only
0:11:09.839,0:11:13.680
a few more episodes right it’s kind of
0:11:11.600,0:11:16.240
late to the game on this one
0:11:13.680,0:11:16.800
in our entertainment news we will talk
0:11:16.240,0:11:19.120
about
0:11:16.800,0:11:20.240
a legendary thanksgiving tradition that
0:11:19.120,0:11:23.279
gives back
0:11:20.240,0:11:25.360
this year uh and we’ll see a sign of
0:11:23.279,0:11:26.399
stan lee that most people have never
0:11:25.360,0:11:29.760
seen
0:11:26.399,0:11:31.519
or heard before and then of course we’ll
0:11:29.760,0:11:35.360
finish up with our insightful picks
0:11:31.519,0:11:37.760
of the week of which we’re going to have
0:11:35.360,0:11:38.959
a role reversal to a certain extent on

0:12:41.230,0:12:45.360
[Applause]
0:12:42.450,0:12:47.519
[Music]
0:12:45.360,0:12:48.720
it annoys me because i did a sound check
0:12:47.519,0:12:52.240
beforehand and
0:12:48.720,0:12:54.240
everything was working and now it’s
0:12:52.240,0:12:56.560
it’s not going to work and and we’ll
0:12:54.240,0:12:57.839
just sing our own songs
0:12:56.560,0:13:00.240
this way i don’t have to go back and
0:12:57.839,0:13:03.600
edit it and post
0:13:00.240,0:13:05.120
that works for me yeah whatever okay um
0:13:03.600,0:13:07.200
i don’t know if the ads are going to
0:13:05.120,0:13:10.959
work though so we’ll see
0:13:07.200,0:13:12.240
uh anyway let’s just give it a try it’s
0:13:10.959,0:13:15.519
gonna be one of those shows
0:13:12.240,0:13:16.639
it’s one of those shows go for disney
0:13:15.519,0:13:20.079
detective
0:13:16.639,0:13:23.279
so this kind of popped up uh
0:13:20.079,0:13:26.480
and and what caught my attention on this
0:13:23.279,0:13:26.959
was various stories that we had talked
0:13:26.480,0:13:29.760
about
0:13:26.959,0:13:30.320
what almost a year ago maybe maybe it
0:13:29.760,0:13:33.920
was
0:13:30.320,0:13:35.519
uh definitely months ago about you know
0:13:33.920,0:13:38.639
the fact that you know
0:13:35.519,0:13:40.560
disney um you know is the owner of a
0:13:38.639,0:13:44.000
very substantial
0:13:40.560,0:13:47.360
um amount of intellectual property
0:13:44.000,0:13:48.639
uh you know so much so that you know as
0:13:47.360,0:13:50.800
we had talked
0:13:48.639,0:13:52.480
you know months ago there was a family
0:13:50.800,0:13:54.720
whose son had passed away
0:13:52.480,0:13:56.320
who was a huge spider-man fan and they
0:13:54.720,0:13:59.680
had wanted to use
0:13:56.320,0:14:03.279
a spider-man logo on
0:13:59.680,0:14:05.360
his headstone and disney
0:14:03.279,0:14:06.480
wouldn’t give them permission you know
0:14:05.360,0:14:09.760
to do that
0:14:06.480,0:14:13.199
so here’s you know a case of
0:14:09.760,0:14:15.920
you know maybe a double standard um
0:14:13.199,0:14:16.560
so for those of you that aren’t familiar
0:14:15.920,0:14:19.519
with
0:14:16.560,0:14:21.040
challenge coins uh what they started
0:14:19.519,0:14:23.440
mostly in the military
0:14:21.040,0:14:25.120
mostly in the military um you know the
0:14:23.440,0:14:27.839
idea is that
0:14:25.120,0:14:29.360
they’re you know a small coin and it’s
0:14:27.839,0:14:30.160
you know kind of a commemorative
0:14:29.360,0:14:33.279
medallion
0:14:30.160,0:14:36.320
that’s usually distributed within a a an
0:14:33.279,0:14:38.720
organization as a symbol of membership
0:14:36.320,0:14:40.079
um and you know kind of fosters some
0:14:38.720,0:14:42.639
sort of challenges
0:14:40.079,0:14:43.440
in which people are supposed to you know
0:14:42.639,0:14:45.760
if somebody
0:14:43.440,0:14:46.560
says hey do you have your you know your
0:14:45.760,0:14:48.399
coin on you
0:14:46.560,0:14:50.480
you’re supposed to produce it and if you
0:14:48.399,0:14:53.839
don’t there’s some sort of
0:14:50.480,0:14:57.120
punishment usually usually it involves
0:14:53.839,0:14:59.760
uh alcoholic beverages
0:14:57.120,0:15:01.760
and right if someone challenges you to
0:14:59.760,0:15:03.120
produce the coin that you’re supposed to
0:15:01.760,0:15:04.000
carry with you all the time and you
0:15:03.120,0:15:06.399
don’t have it
0:15:04.000,0:15:07.199
right you have to buy everyone who has
0:15:06.399,0:15:09.839
their coin
0:15:07.199,0:15:10.720
a round of drinks right so you know i’m
0:15:09.839,0:15:13.920
sure there’s
0:15:10.720,0:15:16.240
different rules for different groups but
0:15:13.920,0:15:18.720
that’s kind of the gist of
0:15:16.240,0:15:20.399
how most of them you know had started
0:15:18.720,0:15:24.800
but it seems that
0:15:20.399,0:15:28.560
uh disney security actually has a
0:15:24.800,0:15:31.199
bunch of these challenge coins that
0:15:28.560,0:15:32.880
disney doesn’t print them they’re not
0:15:31.199,0:15:36.399
you know printed by disney
0:15:32.880,0:15:40.079
obviously somebody within the group of
0:15:36.399,0:15:43.199
you know security had ordered these and
0:15:40.079,0:15:43.759
you know pass them out um and you know
0:15:43.199,0:15:46.160
when
0:15:43.759,0:15:47.920
it was kind of asked you know why disney
0:15:46.160,0:15:53.040
doesn’t
0:15:47.920,0:15:56.079
um uh uh crack down on it it was well
0:15:53.040,0:15:56.399
you know their their kind of response to
0:15:56.079,0:15:59.920
it
0:15:56.399,0:16:02.880
was oh you’re gonna bring up yours
0:15:59.920,0:16:04.320
uh the response to it was well most of
0:16:02.880,0:16:07.680
our security
0:16:04.320,0:16:10.880
are um you know ex-military
0:16:07.680,0:16:14.079
or uh ex-police officers
0:16:10.880,0:16:17.519
and it’s kind of a tradition you know
0:16:14.079,0:16:19.279
with the you know with the military and
0:16:17.519,0:16:22.079
with the police office so
0:16:19.279,0:16:22.560
you know if they want to kind of use it
0:16:22.079,0:16:26.079
as
0:16:22.560,0:16:27.279
their camaraderie were you know we don’t
0:16:26.079,0:16:30.480
want to stop them
0:16:27.279,0:16:33.199
but again then you have the people that
0:16:30.480,0:16:35.600
wanted to use their likeness
0:16:33.199,0:16:36.880
for other things and and they wouldn’t
0:16:35.600,0:16:38.480
allow it so again
0:16:36.880,0:16:39.920
kind of the double standard but the
0:16:38.480,0:16:41.519
other thing too is that
0:16:39.920,0:16:43.600
in this article it talked about that you
0:16:41.519,0:16:45.040
could actually look on ebay and you
0:16:43.600,0:16:48.480
could find
0:16:45.040,0:16:51.759
certain ones now it might not be uh
0:16:48.480,0:16:53.920
the specific ones that security
0:16:51.759,0:16:55.120
uses because in the article it even says
0:16:53.920,0:16:58.160
the ones that they
0:16:55.120,0:17:00.240
show in their article aren’t
0:16:58.160,0:17:01.279
all of them that there’s you know more
0:17:00.240,0:17:04.319
that are out there
0:17:01.279,0:17:07.760
that are kind of more private ones
0:17:04.319,0:17:08.559
so yeah so the ones that are up on the
0:17:07.760,0:17:10.720
screen now
0:17:08.559,0:17:11.839
these are actually ones that i had
0:17:10.720,0:17:14.559
designed
0:17:11.839,0:17:17.039
and had made up for our gaming guild in
0:17:14.559,0:17:20.079
our star wars the old republic game
0:17:17.039,0:17:22.160
and it’s really just a
0:17:20.079,0:17:23.760
uh the purpose of them is really to
0:17:22.160,0:17:26.799
denote membership and
0:17:23.760,0:17:28.880
show appreciation for for people and
0:17:26.799,0:17:31.120
you know we kind of went along the lines
0:17:28.880,0:17:33.360
of of what the
0:17:31.120,0:17:34.960
military traditions were with it with
0:17:33.360,0:17:35.600
the whole drinking and stuff like that
0:17:34.960,0:17:37.840
because
0:17:35.600,0:17:39.840
we would occasionally get together for
0:17:37.840,0:17:40.880
uh guild meet and greets around the
0:17:39.840,0:17:44.480
country
0:17:40.880,0:17:47.200
um but the difference here is that
0:17:44.480,0:17:48.160
the intellectual property that’s on
0:17:47.200,0:17:51.200
these coins
0:17:48.160,0:17:53.520
are from my own personal designs
0:17:51.200,0:17:54.240
uh i’m not using someone else’s i’m not
0:17:53.520,0:17:57.600
using a
0:17:54.240,0:17:59.679
star wars logo i’m not doing anything
0:17:57.600,0:18:01.440
from a from a strictly star wars
0:17:59.679,0:18:04.960
standpoint on these
0:18:01.440,0:18:06.640
these are reminiscent of uh symbolism
0:18:04.960,0:18:08.400
that’s in star wars
0:18:06.640,0:18:10.480
but none of the stuff is copywritten
0:18:08.400,0:18:13.200
from from star wars
0:18:10.480,0:18:14.799
and and i think kind of the the issue
0:18:13.200,0:18:16.640
that i have with this whole thing is
0:18:14.799,0:18:18.960
probably the hypocrisy
0:18:16.640,0:18:19.919
where you know you you brought up the
0:18:18.960,0:18:21.760
example of
0:18:19.919,0:18:23.120
of the young boy who had passed away and
0:18:21.760,0:18:24.799
the parents he was a big
0:18:23.120,0:18:28.160
spider-man fan and the parents wanted to
0:18:24.799,0:18:30.799
have spider-man on his tombstone
0:18:28.160,0:18:31.840
and disney wouldn’t do it because it
0:18:30.799,0:18:33.039
they didn’t have control of the
0:18:31.840,0:18:35.360
intellectual property
0:18:33.039,0:18:36.880
right but you have a situation here
0:18:35.360,0:18:37.760
where all right so they’re disney
0:18:36.880,0:18:40.160
employees
0:18:37.760,0:18:41.280
right but these aren’t disney sanctioned
0:18:40.160,0:18:44.400
coins
0:18:41.280,0:18:46.320
so how is that okay but
0:18:44.400,0:18:48.080
honoring this this young boy who passed
0:18:46.320,0:18:51.919
away is not okay
0:18:48.080,0:18:55.520
it it it smacks of hypocrisy
0:18:51.919,0:18:57.120
um just as much as the one article we
0:18:55.520,0:19:00.400
didn’t include this week
0:18:57.120,0:19:02.320
in disney detective was about the new
0:19:00.400,0:19:04.640
announcement on layoffs
0:19:02.320,0:19:06.240
you know disney’s announcing 32 000
0:19:04.640,0:19:09.760
layoffs at the park
0:19:06.240,0:19:12.960
none of which are executives
0:19:09.760,0:19:16.240
and and to me that’s hypocrisy because
0:19:12.960,0:19:17.120
your executives yes i understand because
0:19:16.240,0:19:19.360
the park
0:19:17.120,0:19:22.720
attendance is down because the some of
0:19:19.360,0:19:24.559
the a lot of the parks are closed
0:19:22.720,0:19:26.400
you don’t have work for people so
0:19:24.559,0:19:29.840
there’s a certain
0:19:26.400,0:19:33.200
collateral damage associated with that
0:19:29.840,0:19:36.640
the problem that i have is that
0:19:33.200,0:19:38.400
there are ways that you can keep the
0:19:36.640,0:19:40.720
business going
0:19:38.400,0:19:42.240
and it is the sole responsibility of the
0:19:40.720,0:19:45.280
executives
0:19:42.240,0:19:48.000
the executive management team at disney
0:19:45.280,0:19:49.120
to keep the business going and to make
0:19:48.000,0:19:52.400
money
0:19:49.120,0:19:54.880
and if you’re telling me
0:19:52.400,0:19:56.640
that they’ve completely abdicated that
0:19:54.880,0:19:59.039
responsibility and they’re just going to
0:19:56.640,0:20:02.240
lay off all these people
0:19:59.039,0:20:04.960
then they’re not doing their jobs
0:20:02.240,0:20:06.000
and yet they’re still con continuing to
0:20:04.960,0:20:08.320
to draw their salary
0:20:06.000,0:20:09.440
so and their full salary in most cases
0:20:08.320,0:20:11.360
exactly and they they
0:20:09.440,0:20:13.200
had it reduced and now they brought it
0:20:11.360,0:20:16.880
back up in the midst of
0:20:13.200,0:20:20.159
laying off tens of thousands of people
0:20:16.880,0:20:22.320
it’s it’s a level of hypocrisy
0:20:20.159,0:20:24.799
that seems to be rampant throughout
0:20:22.320,0:20:26.720
disney at this point in time where
0:20:24.799,0:20:28.240
certain you know everyone’s created
0:20:26.720,0:20:30.080
equal but there are those who are more
0:20:28.240,0:20:32.400
equal than others
0:20:30.080,0:20:34.720
and and people aren’t all being treated
0:20:32.400,0:20:37.679
fairly in this deal here
0:20:34.720,0:20:38.400
so that’s sort of the parallel that i
0:20:37.679,0:20:42.080
wanted to draw
0:20:38.400,0:20:44.720
on that sure uh but besides that
0:20:42.080,0:20:47.520
issue uh mcdonald’s is having some issue
0:20:44.720,0:20:50.240
with with disney stuff now
0:20:47.520,0:20:52.720
so uh last week we talked about the new
0:20:50.240,0:20:56.080
mcdonald’s happy meal toys that
0:20:52.720,0:20:59.440
mcdonald’s was offering to celebrate
0:20:56.080,0:21:03.840
uh disney’s anniversary and
0:20:59.440,0:21:06.720
um well seems there were some problems
0:21:03.840,0:21:07.360
uh so you know as soon as it kind of
0:21:06.720,0:21:10.559
started
0:21:07.360,0:21:12.240
i think within a week uh mcdonald’s has
0:21:10.559,0:21:14.799
temporarily stopped
0:21:12.240,0:21:16.159
giving out the disney world line of
0:21:14.799,0:21:18.200
happy meal toys
0:21:16.159,0:21:19.600
so the article actually came from
0:21:18.200,0:21:23.039
insider.com
0:21:19.600,0:21:26.080
and they mentioned that wdw news
0:21:23.039,0:21:26.880
had reported had originally reported
0:21:26.080,0:21:28.880
this
0:21:26.880,0:21:30.240
and they had actually gotten some
0:21:28.880,0:21:33.200
internal mcdonald’s
0:21:30.240,0:21:34.400
restaurant brief alert saying that the
0:21:33.200,0:21:37.600
toys included
0:21:34.400,0:21:38.640
faulty qr codes that led to error
0:21:37.600,0:21:42.720
messages
0:21:38.640,0:21:45.200
and also unintended search results
0:21:42.720,0:21:48.080
when you use when you scanned it outside
0:21:45.200,0:21:52.320
of the mcdonald’s app
0:21:48.080,0:21:54.080
so uh now supposedly the toys were going
0:21:52.320,0:21:56.880
to be returning
0:21:54.080,0:21:58.799
uh to locations this week but some
0:21:56.880,0:22:01.120
customers had said on twitter
0:21:58.799,0:22:04.000
that they still uh when going to
0:22:01.120,0:22:07.919
mcdonald’s locations to try and find it
0:22:04.000,0:22:09.840
they uh weren’t getting the mcdonald
0:22:07.919,0:22:12.799
the the disney happy meal toy they were
0:22:09.840,0:22:16.000
just basically getting a generic version
0:22:12.799,0:22:19.039
and in the one memo uh that
0:22:16.000,0:22:19.600
they had obtained it basically said you
0:22:19.039,0:22:22.240
know
0:22:19.600,0:22:23.280
stop to you know stop giving out the the
0:22:22.240,0:22:26.320
disney one stop
0:22:23.280,0:22:29.760
using the disney happy meal boxes
0:22:26.320,0:22:33.039
give the generic whatever generic toys
0:22:29.760,0:22:36.400
you have you know available um
0:22:33.039,0:22:37.919
so so supposedly they were gonna
0:22:36.400,0:22:39.600
you know they had to ship all the toys
0:22:37.919,0:22:40.000
back they were gonna do something where
0:22:39.600,0:22:43.200
they were
0:22:40.000,0:22:45.360
going to take out the paper
0:22:43.200,0:22:46.240
or redo it or something because some of
0:22:45.360,0:22:48.559
the codes
0:22:46.240,0:22:49.600
were giving you error messages and some
0:22:48.559,0:22:53.200
of them were actually
0:22:49.600,0:22:57.600
sending you to adult
0:22:53.200,0:22:59.760
sites so yeah i could see why
0:22:57.600,0:23:01.919
parents wouldn’t want their this is this
0:22:59.760,0:23:03.600
is interesting because
0:23:01.919,0:23:05.520
for those who aren’t familiar with qr
0:23:03.600,0:23:07.679
codes a qr code is really just a
0:23:05.520,0:23:09.679
graphical representation of text just
0:23:07.679,0:23:13.039
like a barcode is
0:23:09.679,0:23:15.039
and the qr code itself you would you
0:23:13.039,0:23:17.840
would basically take a url
0:23:15.039,0:23:20.240
for a website you’d plug it into a qr
0:23:17.840,0:23:22.240
code generator and it generates a little
0:23:20.240,0:23:23.679
what are called three-dimensional
0:23:22.240,0:23:26.720
barcodes
0:23:23.679,0:23:30.640
um the the interesting thing is
0:23:26.720,0:23:32.159
here those urls or those web addresses
0:23:30.640,0:23:33.200
had to have been established already
0:23:32.159,0:23:36.159
before printing
0:23:33.200,0:23:36.720
right so one of two things had to have
0:23:36.159,0:23:40.480
happened
0:23:36.720,0:23:43.600
hmm either a someone
0:23:40.480,0:23:46.559
put the wrong web addresses in right or
0:23:43.600,0:23:47.440
b someone hijacked the web addresses
0:23:46.559,0:23:50.799
that were there
0:23:47.440,0:23:53.200
that are being put out now one of those
0:23:50.799,0:23:55.520
would require an inside job
0:23:53.200,0:23:57.520
because if someone registered these urls
0:23:55.520,0:24:00.080
for the purpose of this project
0:23:57.520,0:24:01.679
they would have had four knowledge as to
0:24:00.080,0:24:06.159
what those urls were
0:24:01.679,0:24:08.720
right could then go out and alter those
0:24:06.159,0:24:11.440
urls at that point in time so i’d be
0:24:08.720,0:24:13.520
curious to see how this actually ends
0:24:11.440,0:24:15.440
and where this investigation goes was
0:24:13.520,0:24:18.640
this a case of
0:24:15.440,0:24:20.799
deliberate malfeasance on the part of
0:24:18.640,0:24:22.480
the company that printed these out and
0:24:20.799,0:24:24.320
produced these toys
0:24:22.480,0:24:25.600
where they had somebody on the inside
0:24:24.320,0:24:28.000
who
0:24:25.600,0:24:28.880
who tweaked it yeah yeah who
0:24:28.000,0:24:32.320
deliberately
0:24:28.880,0:24:34.880
modified those urls yeah or was this
0:24:32.320,0:24:36.960
a an outside attack after the fact where
0:24:34.880,0:24:38.000
someone may have gotten an advanced copy
0:24:36.960,0:24:39.679
of these
0:24:38.000,0:24:41.039
and then gone out and hacked the site
0:24:39.679,0:24:44.480
that they were pointing to
0:24:41.039,0:24:45.840
right um so kind of interesting
0:24:44.480,0:24:48.159
that that you’re getting different
0:24:45.840,0:24:49.440
results too right right which was which
0:24:48.159,0:24:52.960
was interesting
0:24:49.440,0:24:54.159
um and you know i guess it’s kind of a
0:24:52.960,0:24:57.919
good thing that they caught this
0:24:54.159,0:25:00.159
early on right um it’s hard to believe
0:24:57.919,0:25:02.080
that this type of thing could have gone
0:25:00.159,0:25:04.320
through their quality assurance
0:25:02.080,0:25:05.760
engineers right and and nothing was
0:25:04.320,0:25:08.159
wrong with the actual
0:25:05.760,0:25:09.039
toy itself there wasn’t any recall on
0:25:08.159,0:25:11.919
the toy it was
0:25:09.039,0:25:14.400
basically the packaging in the toy so
0:25:11.919,0:25:15.679
i’m surprised they didn’t just tell each
0:25:14.400,0:25:17.919
location hey
0:25:15.679,0:25:18.799
just you know throw the toy in take it
0:25:17.919,0:25:22.080
out of the bag
0:25:18.799,0:25:25.120
right and disney generally is
0:25:22.080,0:25:27.440
very controlled on its licensing right
0:25:25.120,0:25:28.480
so they don’t just say okay you can go
0:25:27.440,0:25:30.480
print stuff with us
0:25:28.480,0:25:31.760
with our logos and stuff like that on it
0:25:30.480,0:25:34.000
right they’re
0:25:31.760,0:25:36.320
involved in that process throughout the
0:25:34.000,0:25:39.600
entire process so
0:25:36.320,0:25:41.120
it makes me think that the urls were
0:25:39.600,0:25:43.440
probably legitimate
0:25:41.120,0:25:45.200
at first and then were probably attacked
0:25:43.440,0:25:47.600
at some point in time
0:25:45.200,0:25:50.240
once these things went out there so
0:25:47.600,0:25:51.760
there’s probably a breakdown security
0:25:50.240,0:25:53.360
i don’t know unfortunately we didn’t see
0:25:51.760,0:25:54.400
what the urls were so we don’t know who
0:25:53.360,0:25:57.360
was hosting these
0:25:54.400,0:25:58.880
yeah because there was no place that
0:25:57.360,0:26:01.039
posted anything it was
0:25:58.880,0:26:02.640
just right so various articles about it
0:26:01.039,0:26:04.640
there’s no way for us to know who was
0:26:02.640,0:26:05.200
responsible for the security of those
0:26:04.640,0:26:07.200
sites
0:26:05.200,0:26:08.640
and chances are that’s probably where
0:26:07.200,0:26:10.080
the breakdown occurred
0:26:08.640,0:26:12.080
and we’ve seen this numerous times in
0:26:10.080,0:26:14.080
the past where a website’s been
0:26:12.080,0:26:15.679
advertised out there it gets hacked and
0:26:14.080,0:26:18.159
then they put something inappropriate up
0:26:15.679,0:26:22.000
there to try to damage someone’s brand
0:26:18.159,0:26:23.760
um but they did say this was temporary
0:26:22.000,0:26:24.000
so we can expect to see these toys come
0:26:23.760,0:26:25.360
back
0:26:24.000,0:26:27.039
out they haven’t given a time frame
0:26:25.360,0:26:28.320
though on that right they were you know
0:26:27.039,0:26:31.440
they were saying within
0:26:28.320,0:26:32.799
the week um you know so i guess it
0:26:31.440,0:26:35.760
really depends on
0:26:32.799,0:26:38.559
your location where you are i wonder how
0:26:35.760,0:26:41.679
the sales are going on ebay if that now
0:26:38.559,0:26:43.679
bumps the price up might make them ultra
0:26:41.679,0:26:46.240
rare now all of a sudden you never know
0:26:43.679,0:26:47.440
so i know i never got a you know a set
0:26:46.240,0:26:49.840
and never looked
0:26:47.440,0:26:50.799
you know to even see what they were uh
0:26:49.840,0:26:53.840
were going for
0:26:50.799,0:26:54.880
so if you have them good for you hold on
0:26:53.840,0:26:57.679
to them because they’re probably
0:26:54.880,0:26:59.440
going to be worth a lot of money so i
0:26:57.679,0:27:00.480
think that was all we had for our disney
0:26:59.440,0:27:02.400
detective
0:27:00.480,0:27:04.000
uh we’re going to take a quick break and
0:27:02.400,0:27:06.400
probably have a very quiet commercial
0:27:04.000,0:27:08.240
that i have to fix and post
0:27:06.400,0:27:11.919
and then we’ll come back with our tails
0:27:08.240,0:27:11.919

go for tails from the edge of the galaxy
0:28:27.760,0:28:33.600
so this article came from inverse.com
0:28:31.440,0:28:35.440
and it basically talks about how the
0:28:33.600,0:28:38.240
mandalorian is doing
0:28:35.440,0:28:39.760
uh you know a storytelling trick that
0:28:38.240,0:28:42.640
star wars movies
0:28:39.760,0:28:43.679
could actually never really do so it
0:28:42.640,0:28:46.720
talks about how when
0:28:43.679,0:28:49.440
you know a new star wars movie comes out
0:28:46.720,0:28:50.080
everybody you know flocks to it but the
0:28:49.440,0:28:52.000
movie
0:28:50.080,0:28:53.360
for the most part is pretty predictable
0:28:52.000,0:28:55.360
there’s going to be a jedi
0:28:53.360,0:28:57.120
there’s going to be fight with a sith
0:28:55.360,0:28:58.240
there’s going to be multiple planets
0:28:57.120,0:29:01.120
some sort of
0:28:58.240,0:29:02.480
galactic warfare a final lightsaber
0:29:01.120,0:29:04.799
battle
0:29:02.480,0:29:06.559
nothing wrong with it that just tends to
0:29:04.799,0:29:10.480
be the the formula of
0:29:06.559,0:29:13.200
a star wars movie um but sometimes
0:29:10.480,0:29:14.320
you know as we’ve talked about it kind
0:29:13.200,0:29:16.960
of gets a little
0:29:14.320,0:29:18.080
tiring it’s the same thing over and over
0:29:16.960,0:29:20.159
again
0:29:18.080,0:29:21.120
but obviously when the mandalorian
0:29:20.159,0:29:24.240
premiered
0:29:21.120,0:29:27.440
um instead of using star wars
0:29:24.240,0:29:30.799
you know that same
0:29:27.440,0:29:32.159
recipe they kind of thought outside of
0:29:30.799,0:29:33.760
the box and and
0:29:32.159,0:29:35.200
did their storytelling a little bit
0:29:33.760,0:29:38.799
differently um
0:29:35.200,0:29:42.159
so while star wars is kind of seen as a
0:29:38.799,0:29:42.640
space opera the mandalorian is really a
0:29:42.159,0:29:44.720
space
0:29:42.640,0:29:45.919
western which you know we’ve kind of
0:29:44.720,0:29:48.240
talked about since
0:29:45.919,0:29:49.520
you know the first season and really
0:29:48.240,0:29:51.600
more so
0:29:49.520,0:29:52.640
when you see you know the the second
0:29:51.600,0:29:55.120
season so
0:29:52.640,0:29:55.919
again instead of telling an epic story
0:29:55.120,0:29:59.360
of
0:29:55.919,0:30:00.320
gerd good versus evil our you know our
0:29:59.360,0:30:02.720
hero
0:30:00.320,0:30:05.120
you know mando kind of finds himself you
0:30:02.720,0:30:08.159
know constantly filling in those
0:30:05.120,0:30:11.039
uh the role of the mysterious uh
0:30:08.159,0:30:11.919
masked stranger who rolls into town and
0:30:11.039,0:30:14.320
helps out
0:30:11.919,0:30:14.960
you know with his trusty sidekick you
0:30:14.320,0:30:17.200
know and
0:30:14.960,0:30:18.080
he’s basically the lone ranger you know
0:30:17.200,0:30:20.559
in space
0:30:18.080,0:30:21.440
which is kind of funny because it really
0:30:20.559,0:30:24.640
is
0:30:21.440,0:30:27.919
kind of the the role that he plays um
0:30:24.640,0:30:31.520
and with that you are able
0:30:27.919,0:30:34.960
you know each episode also takes on
0:30:31.520,0:30:36.799
a different uh a different mood um
0:30:34.960,0:30:38.080
as well so when this article came out
0:30:36.799,0:30:40.960
there were just
0:30:38.080,0:30:42.880
um the three episodes had had premiered
0:30:40.960,0:30:46.559
in it and it basically
0:30:42.880,0:30:49.600
talks about how um you know each episode
0:30:46.559,0:30:51.440
is done in a different style so you had
0:30:49.600,0:30:54.399
the season 2 premiere which was the
0:30:51.440,0:30:58.080
marshall and that was just
0:30:54.399,0:31:02.080
downright space western you had
0:30:58.080,0:31:04.399
the the tuscan raiders who were kind of
0:31:02.080,0:31:06.640
the native americans and you had you
0:31:04.399,0:31:08.640
know the townspeople who
0:31:06.640,0:31:10.880
were very against them but realized
0:31:08.640,0:31:14.080
everybody had to work together
0:31:10.880,0:31:16.480
to fight you know the monster
0:31:14.080,0:31:17.279
uh and bring the town kind of closer
0:31:16.480,0:31:19.840
together and
0:31:17.279,0:31:21.360
and and save them uh even kind of had
0:31:19.840,0:31:24.480
the saloon
0:31:21.360,0:31:27.120
scene and and whatnot um
0:31:24.480,0:31:27.760
and then in episode two it it shifted
0:31:27.120,0:31:30.720
gears
0:31:27.760,0:31:31.600
uh episode two was the passenger and it
0:31:30.720,0:31:35.919
was mando
0:31:31.600,0:31:39.039
basically uh playing the the taxi driver
0:31:35.919,0:31:39.679
and it was very reminiscent of the fifth
0:31:39.039,0:31:43.120
element
0:31:39.679,0:31:46.720
where he you know is helping
0:31:43.120,0:31:51.279
this woman get you know to her husband
0:31:46.720,0:31:54.399
and protect her uh her her unborn
0:31:51.279,0:31:57.840
children and then you have this whole
0:31:54.399,0:32:00.720
space encounter with these icy uh
0:31:57.840,0:32:01.279
spiders again totally different look
0:32:00.720,0:32:05.039
from
0:32:01.279,0:32:07.840
from the first one uh and then the third
0:32:05.039,0:32:09.679
uh episode was the heiress where now
0:32:07.840,0:32:11.840
mando and baby yoda
0:32:09.679,0:32:13.120
have delivered the frog lady to the
0:32:11.840,0:32:16.640
water planet
0:32:13.120,0:32:19.919
and when you think of water you think of
0:32:16.640,0:32:22.399
pirates and it was a very pirate themed
0:32:19.919,0:32:25.120
episode so it’s amazing how within one
0:32:22.399,0:32:28.320
season you have all these kind of genres
0:32:25.120,0:32:30.799
thrown together and then even this
0:32:28.320,0:32:32.559
last episode which we’ll talk about in
0:32:30.799,0:32:36.240
in our next little segment again
0:32:32.559,0:32:37.200
a totally different feel for it as well
0:32:36.240,0:32:41.200
and i think
0:32:37.200,0:32:43.919
that’s what makes it
0:32:41.200,0:32:46.480
you know for fans of star wars for fans
0:32:43.919,0:32:49.519
you know of just sci-fi in general
0:32:46.480,0:32:52.000
such an appealing show because it’s so
0:32:49.519,0:32:54.880
different it’s not really the same thing
0:32:52.000,0:32:56.799
week after week so and this is a theme
0:32:54.880,0:32:58.320
that they had had picked up in the first
0:32:56.799,0:33:00.320
season too where
0:32:58.320,0:33:02.080
from episode to episode you had the
0:33:00.320,0:33:04.960
overarching story
0:33:02.080,0:33:06.720
right that they sometimes would develop
0:33:04.960,0:33:07.360
sometimes they wouldn’t sometimes you
0:33:06.720,0:33:09.120
would do
0:33:07.360,0:33:11.519
character development to introduce
0:33:09.120,0:33:14.399
people that would move the story forward
0:33:11.519,0:33:15.519
but every episode that you saw was
0:33:14.399,0:33:18.720
different
0:33:15.519,0:33:20.000
and i think the brilliance of the show
0:33:18.720,0:33:22.960
so far
0:33:20.000,0:33:23.760
is the fact that they have this
0:33:22.960,0:33:26.960
extremely
0:33:23.760,0:33:28.960
talented team of directors that all
0:33:26.960,0:33:30.559
have their own idea of how they want to
0:33:28.960,0:33:33.840
tell the story yes
0:33:30.559,0:33:36.480
and and in addition to that you have
0:33:33.840,0:33:37.519
show runners like john favreau and dave
0:33:36.480,0:33:40.480
filoni
0:33:37.519,0:33:42.399
who give the directors that freedom and
0:33:40.480,0:33:46.080
the result that you get
0:33:42.399,0:33:48.720
are unique standalone episodes
0:33:46.080,0:33:50.000
with different styles different genres
0:33:48.720,0:33:53.600
different backgrounds
0:33:50.000,0:33:56.480
different settings um
0:33:53.600,0:33:58.240
but they all move the story forward and
0:33:56.480,0:34:00.480
they do it in a way that keeps you
0:33:58.240,0:34:03.600
guessing from week to week
0:34:00.480,0:34:05.360
um he is the lone ranger there’s
0:34:03.600,0:34:08.480
elements of the lone ranger there’s
0:34:05.360,0:34:11.520
elements of wagon train there’s elements
0:34:08.480,0:34:14.000
of um the rifleman
0:34:11.520,0:34:14.960
there’s even elements of the a-team in
0:34:14.000,0:34:18.079
here as
0:34:14.960,0:34:21.359
you know he gets hired and goes out and
0:34:18.079,0:34:25.280
and takes on these different jobs
0:34:21.359,0:34:28.000
right that the good guys take yeah and
0:34:25.280,0:34:29.040
given the history of mandalorians and
0:34:28.000,0:34:31.280
star wars
0:34:29.040,0:34:32.560
that’s a very different depiction of
0:34:31.280,0:34:34.320
what
0:34:32.560,0:34:35.919
mandalorians are are shown as
0:34:34.320,0:34:38.079
mandalorians are
0:34:35.919,0:34:40.240
a warring tribe mandalorians are the
0:34:38.079,0:34:43.119
equivalent in star wars of what the
0:34:40.240,0:34:45.599
spartans were in ancient history they
0:34:43.119,0:34:48.480
were born bred and raised to be warriors
0:34:45.599,0:34:51.760
their entire culture centered around war
0:34:48.480,0:34:52.159
um their entire heritage you know they
0:34:51.760,0:34:54.159
would
0:34:52.159,0:34:55.919
they would their best guard you know
0:34:54.159,0:34:59.040
their that was that was their
0:34:55.919,0:35:02.000
their religion was war basically um
0:34:59.040,0:35:03.599
and dave filoni kind of started the to
0:35:02.000,0:35:05.920
chip away at that image
0:35:03.599,0:35:08.560
in the clone wars with what he was doing
0:35:05.920,0:35:12.079
with the mandalorians and the clone wars
0:35:08.560,0:35:13.760
and this is obviously a continuance of
0:35:12.079,0:35:17.280
that effort here
0:35:13.760,0:35:20.240
um so it’s what makes each week
0:35:17.280,0:35:22.480
interesting is like everyone wants to
0:35:20.240,0:35:25.520
know what’s going to happen to baby yoda
0:35:22.480,0:35:26.240
but that’s it’s icing it’s on the cake
0:35:25.520,0:35:29.200
you know it’s right
0:35:26.240,0:35:29.599
it’s a gravy what you tune in for is to
0:35:29.200,0:35:31.359
see
0:35:29.599,0:35:33.200
where is it going this week right what
0:35:31.359,0:35:34.560
what western are we going to see coming
0:35:33.200,0:35:36.880
right this way
0:35:34.560,0:35:38.160
you know like we had a classic showdown
0:35:36.880,0:35:40.320
at noon
0:35:38.160,0:35:41.280
you know high noon showdown in this
0:35:40.320,0:35:44.240
week’s episode
0:35:41.280,0:35:45.119
this one was almost more like samurai
0:35:44.240,0:35:48.160
yes this one
0:35:45.119,0:35:51.280
had a very you know asian
0:35:48.160,0:35:51.760
yes overtone to it so i i kept thinking
0:35:51.280,0:35:54.720
of like
0:35:51.760,0:35:55.839
samurai movies absolutely even even like
0:35:54.720,0:35:59.359
the setting where the
0:35:55.839,0:36:02.160
the final battle right with uh the
0:35:59.359,0:36:03.520
as yet to be named individual that we
0:36:02.160,0:36:06.640
don’t want to spoil just yet
0:36:03.520,0:36:07.520
right uh it was like a pagoda that they
0:36:06.640,0:36:10.720
were fighting in
0:36:07.520,0:36:14.160
yeah um so the imagery it it
0:36:10.720,0:36:17.760
brings a certain level of familiarity
0:36:14.160,0:36:20.240
and that familiarity grounds the viewer
0:36:17.760,0:36:21.280
so that somebody who isn’t a star wars
0:36:20.240,0:36:23.440
fan
0:36:21.280,0:36:25.599
can still watch the show and get
0:36:23.440,0:36:28.800
entertainment value out right
0:36:25.599,0:36:31.040
it’s not one of these things where you
0:36:28.800,0:36:32.160
have to read all the books and watch all
0:36:31.040,0:36:35.119
the movies and
0:36:32.160,0:36:35.920
and play all the games which is kind of
0:36:35.119,0:36:39.040
the direction
0:36:35.920,0:36:40.800
that disney has gone since they took
0:36:39.040,0:36:44.079
over the the franchise
0:36:40.800,0:36:46.640
with the movies so you know we
0:36:44.079,0:36:48.240
i criticized the the sequel trilogies a
0:36:46.640,0:36:50.800
lot and
0:36:48.240,0:36:52.720
quite deservedly so but one of the
0:36:50.800,0:36:56.640
biggest criticisms i’ve had about the
0:36:52.720,0:36:58.560
the sequel trilogies is there’s
0:36:56.640,0:37:00.240
a lot of background information that
0:36:58.560,0:37:02.079
doesn’t come out in the movies now i
0:37:00.240,0:37:02.320
know you can only put so much in a movie
0:37:02.079,0:37:04.720
i
0:37:02.320,0:37:05.520
get that right the problem i have is
0:37:04.720,0:37:07.920
that
0:37:05.520,0:37:09.040
the information that they’re trying to
0:37:07.920,0:37:12.800
feed
0:37:09.040,0:37:16.000
off of is information that are informs
0:37:12.800,0:37:19.040
that the average viewer is not going to
0:37:16.000,0:37:20.320
consume you know the the average person
0:37:19.040,0:37:20.800
that wants to go see star wars is not
0:37:20.320,0:37:23.760
going to go
0:37:20.800,0:37:25.359
read you know five novels to figure out
0:37:23.760,0:37:26.880
who the first order is or who this
0:37:25.359,0:37:28.880
character is and stuff like that
0:37:26.880,0:37:31.680
right and what happens is you you get
0:37:28.880,0:37:34.320
into the movie theater and you watch it
0:37:31.680,0:37:35.200
and you there’s a lot of story that goes
0:37:34.320,0:37:37.040
on
0:37:35.200,0:37:39.119
but you missed the majority of it
0:37:37.040,0:37:41.440
because you don’t know who these people
0:37:39.119,0:37:42.160
are or how you got to this point or any
0:37:41.440,0:37:45.359
of that stuff
0:37:42.160,0:37:48.240
right and the mandalorian
0:37:45.359,0:37:49.520
goes the exact opposite way you know to
0:37:48.240,0:37:51.520
the point where you almost
0:37:49.520,0:37:53.359
over develop your characters in this
0:37:51.520,0:37:55.520
case here but you have the freedom to do
0:37:53.359,0:37:58.160
that in a television show
0:37:55.520,0:37:59.200
and the one thing they’re doing smartly
0:37:58.160,0:38:01.200
here
0:37:59.200,0:38:03.280
is they’re putting elements into this
0:38:01.200,0:38:06.000
show that’s very popular
0:38:03.280,0:38:06.400
that feed into the movies so they’re
0:38:06.000,0:38:09.520
they’re
0:38:06.400,0:38:12.400
drawing the parallels from
0:38:09.520,0:38:13.839
the original trilogy and the sequel
0:38:12.400,0:38:15.040
trilogy now
0:38:13.839,0:38:18.000
with some of the elements that they’re
0:38:15.040,0:38:19.520
putting in here which is very nice
0:38:18.000,0:38:21.599
and they’re doing the same thing with
0:38:19.520,0:38:23.280
some of the previous animated series the
0:38:21.599,0:38:26.160
clone wars and rebels
0:38:23.280,0:38:28.000
are getting elements in the manner so
0:38:26.160,0:38:31.119
they’re using mandalorian
0:38:28.000,0:38:33.119
as a platform to sort of tie
0:38:31.119,0:38:34.560
all those things together so you don’t
0:38:33.119,0:38:35.920
have to go read all the novels but it
0:38:34.560,0:38:37.680
could do it enhances things
0:38:35.920,0:38:39.200
right but we’re going to give you those
0:38:37.680,0:38:40.720
pieces information here we’re going to
0:38:39.200,0:38:41.839
we’re going to draw those lines where
0:38:40.720,0:38:43.520
they need to be drawn
0:38:41.839,0:38:46.800
right because we have the freedom to do
0:38:43.520,0:38:48.880
it and and that doesn’t necessarily
0:38:46.800,0:38:50.880
drive the mandalorian story forward but
0:38:48.880,0:38:52.240
it helps to tie the entire universe
0:38:50.880,0:38:54.640
together
0:38:52.240,0:38:55.280
it’s like the force it binds the
0:38:54.640,0:38:56.880
universe to
0:38:55.280,0:39:00.320
the mandalorian binds the universe
0:38:56.880,0:39:03.440
together no it does just like duct tape
0:39:00.320,0:39:05.920
light side dark side etc etc right right
0:39:03.440,0:39:07.200
so anyway that was that was what we had
0:39:05.920,0:39:10.020
for
0:39:07.200,0:39:12.720
um
0:39:10.020,0:39:15.440
[Music]
0:39:12.720,0:39:17.359
how the mandalorian is taking
0:39:15.440,0:39:18.560
storytelling in a different direction i
0:39:17.359,0:39:23.040
scrolled up too far
0:39:18.560,0:39:25.200
oh okay scroll down scroll down so
0:39:23.040,0:39:26.560
spoiler alert here everything we’re
0:39:25.200,0:39:28.720
going to talk about
0:39:26.560,0:39:31.040
for the next few minutes until we get to
0:39:28.720,0:39:33.839
our entertainment news is spoilers
0:39:31.040,0:39:37.520
of this week’s episode of the
0:39:33.839,0:39:41.040
mandalorian which was what episode
0:39:37.520,0:39:44.079
five of season two right right
0:39:41.040,0:39:46.000
so if you have not watched or
0:39:44.079,0:39:48.800
have yet to watch but you will be
0:39:46.000,0:39:50.960
watching and you don’t want to know
0:39:48.800,0:39:52.000
pretend like you’re one of my videos and
0:39:50.960,0:39:54.480
just just
0:39:52.000,0:39:56.000
pause and turn the volume on and turn
0:39:54.480,0:39:57.760
the volume down
0:39:56.000,0:39:59.359
when you see the transition you know you
0:39:57.760,0:39:59.839
can turn the volume back we’ll go like
0:39:59.359,0:40:03.599
this
0:39:59.839,0:40:07.440
and say it’s okay to come back red flags
0:40:03.599,0:40:08.960
sketch red flags here so
0:40:07.440,0:40:11.200
four main things came out of this
0:40:08.960,0:40:15.920
episode that i wanted to touch on okay
0:40:11.200,0:40:15.920
take it away who is groku
0:40:16.079,0:40:24.079
groku is yoda
0:40:19.599,0:40:26.880
plush yogurt plus gogurt
0:40:24.079,0:40:26.880
you groku
0:40:27.680,0:40:31.040
now we find out this week that groku is
0:40:29.680,0:40:33.839
the name of the child
0:40:31.040,0:40:35.280
right i would i was almost hoping that
0:40:33.839,0:40:38.720
it was gonna be a
0:40:35.280,0:40:41.359
girl like i i was waiting for
0:40:38.720,0:40:43.200
her to say well she right and he would
0:40:41.359,0:40:45.119
have been like what
0:40:43.200,0:40:46.480
yeah yeah that would have been that
0:40:45.119,0:40:48.079
would have been a cute little
0:40:46.480,0:40:50.240
you know and then she gets to wear a
0:40:48.079,0:40:53.280
cute little little bow
0:40:50.240,0:40:56.400
or something but yeah so so
0:40:53.280,0:40:59.839
we find this out when ahsoka
0:40:56.400,0:41:02.079
tano shows up amanda goes to see her
0:40:59.839,0:41:03.520
and she through the force communicates
0:41:02.079,0:41:07.440
telepathically with
0:41:03.520,0:41:09.359
the child and we find out that the child
0:41:07.440,0:41:12.079
is
0:41:09.359,0:41:14.960
ironically born the same year that
0:41:12.079,0:41:18.079
anakin skywalker is born
0:41:14.960,0:41:20.400
we find out that he was trained
0:41:18.079,0:41:22.800
at the jedi temple right it was secreted
0:41:20.400,0:41:25.040
away before the purge occurred
0:41:22.800,0:41:26.319
we don’t know who yet so i think that
0:41:25.040,0:41:29.200
might be kind of a key
0:41:26.319,0:41:30.079
to find out who actually takes them up
0:41:29.200,0:41:34.000
takes them away
0:41:30.079,0:41:36.880
right um but we also find out that
0:41:34.000,0:41:37.920
he’s become so attached to the
0:41:36.880,0:41:42.160
mandalorian
0:41:37.920,0:41:46.160
right that his fear of being separated
0:41:42.160,0:41:48.640
has caused ahsoka tano pause in
0:41:46.160,0:41:50.000
her task of training him correct she
0:41:48.640,0:41:52.000
doesn’t want to train him and she makes
0:41:50.000,0:41:55.200
references to how
0:41:52.000,0:41:56.880
you know the greatest of jedi’s uh fell
0:41:55.200,0:42:00.720
to the dark side because of his
0:41:56.880,0:42:02.240
fear of detachment from the one he loves
0:42:00.720,0:42:04.079
so there were some some really cool
0:42:02.240,0:42:07.200
parallels with
0:42:04.079,0:42:10.319
the next big reveal is thrawn so
0:42:07.200,0:42:13.520
thrawn if you read the
0:42:10.319,0:42:16.319
um expanded universe books thrawn
0:42:13.520,0:42:18.480
is this blue-faced red-eyed member of
0:42:16.319,0:42:21.599
the chis species
0:42:18.480,0:42:24.640
who was a grand admiral uh during the
0:42:21.599,0:42:25.520
imperial era and he goes off uh on
0:42:24.640,0:42:28.800
assignment
0:42:25.520,0:42:30.880
prior to the return of the jedi
0:42:28.800,0:42:32.960
and uh he’s off doing something in the
0:42:30.880,0:42:33.440
unknown regions and he winds up coming
0:42:32.960,0:42:37.119
back
0:42:33.440,0:42:40.319
after the empire is defeated
0:42:37.119,0:42:44.079
and he rallies the empire to
0:42:40.319,0:42:45.599
basically you know revive the empire um
0:42:44.079,0:42:47.040
when they threw all the expanded
0:42:45.599,0:42:48.160
universe stuff out they threw all that
0:42:47.040,0:42:49.920
out anyway
0:42:48.160,0:42:51.920
however they did bring him back in clone
0:42:49.920,0:42:54.160
wars because clone wars were
0:42:51.920,0:42:56.319
rebels they brought him back in rebels
0:42:54.160,0:42:57.520
and he’s still this military genius blah
0:42:56.319,0:42:59.359
blah blah
0:42:57.520,0:43:00.960
and apparently this person who is the
0:42:59.359,0:43:04.000
magistrate on the planet
0:43:00.960,0:43:06.720
they were on this week uh served him
0:43:04.000,0:43:07.280
and ahsoka tano is now searching for
0:43:06.720,0:43:09.839
thrawn
0:43:07.280,0:43:10.800
right she had some interactions with him
0:43:09.839,0:43:13.119
during
0:43:10.800,0:43:14.480
rebels which is worthwhile to to take a
0:43:13.119,0:43:18.079
look at
0:43:14.480,0:43:20.640
what this might open up is
0:43:18.079,0:43:21.280
the return of some other people in live
0:43:20.640,0:43:24.319
action
0:43:21.280,0:43:26.720
from rebels right so
0:43:24.319,0:43:28.240
the last we saw of ezra bridger who was
0:43:26.720,0:43:31.520
one of the key members
0:43:28.240,0:43:35.440
of the crew uh in rebels
0:43:31.520,0:43:38.720
was he is basically attacking thrawn or
0:43:35.440,0:43:41.040
he’s holding thrawn a hostage with this
0:43:38.720,0:43:42.400
space being and they jump into
0:43:41.040,0:43:43.839
hyperspacing you don’t hear anything
0:43:42.400,0:43:46.000
else from them
0:43:43.839,0:43:47.040
so thrawn survived chances are he
0:43:46.000,0:43:50.560
survived okay
0:43:47.040,0:43:51.520
and we might see him we might also see
0:43:50.560,0:43:54.000
sabine wren
0:43:51.520,0:43:55.359
who was the token mandalorian and the
0:43:54.000,0:43:57.839
rebels right
0:43:55.359,0:43:59.520
um who also sort of went off and did her
0:43:57.839,0:44:01.200
own thing she happened to be one of the
0:43:59.520,0:44:04.319
people who wielded
0:44:01.200,0:44:10.079
the dark saber the
0:44:04.319,0:44:13.280
dark saber back here yep that one there
0:44:10.079,0:44:17.119
um she wielded that for a period of time
0:44:13.280,0:44:18.720
okay and um
0:44:17.119,0:44:20.640
would be interesting to see how she
0:44:18.720,0:44:22.240
interacts considering the dark saber has
0:44:20.640,0:44:24.880
surfaced again in this show
0:44:22.240,0:44:25.920
so a lot of elements together there
0:44:24.880,0:44:28.960
obviously
0:44:25.920,0:44:31.520
ahsoka shows up and that was kind of
0:44:28.960,0:44:33.440
what we’ve everybody’s been doing
0:44:31.520,0:44:35.680
everyone that was the the worst kept
0:44:33.440,0:44:39.119
secret of the season i think is ahsoka
0:44:35.680,0:44:42.240
right um fantastic job she had her
0:44:39.119,0:44:45.760
her uh dual white lightsabers
0:44:42.240,0:44:49.200
which if you had watched uh clone wars
0:44:45.760,0:44:51.119
rebels etc she
0:44:49.200,0:44:53.680
lost her lightsabers when she left the
0:44:51.119,0:44:55.280
jedi order she lost her lightsabers
0:44:53.680,0:44:58.720
original lightsabers that were given her
0:44:55.280,0:45:01.440
from anakin skywalker
0:44:58.720,0:45:02.880
she had a conflict with a sith
0:45:01.440,0:45:05.920
inquisitor
0:45:02.880,0:45:07.839
who she confiscated his blades
0:45:05.920,0:45:09.920
and purified the blades so that they
0:45:07.839,0:45:11.440
were white so there’s some story behind
0:45:09.920,0:45:15.119
her blades which was kind of cool
0:45:11.440,0:45:16.400
okay um big question that was left over
0:45:15.119,0:45:16.880
is she going to be back on the show
0:45:16.400,0:45:20.240
again
0:45:16.880,0:45:21.359
right uh given the popularity of the
0:45:20.240,0:45:25.040
character
0:45:21.359,0:45:28.400
uh given given the the awesome
0:45:25.040,0:45:29.680
uh premiere that she had which i have to
0:45:28.400,0:45:31.520
say
0:45:29.680,0:45:32.800
like the fight scenes that she was
0:45:31.520,0:45:35.440
involved in yeah
0:45:32.800,0:45:37.280
were very reminiscent of the fight
0:45:35.440,0:45:38.400
scenes that she had in clone wars and
0:45:37.280,0:45:42.160
rebels and was done
0:45:38.400,0:45:43.200
so well uh i i think we’re going to see
0:45:42.160,0:45:45.760
her brother i don’t think
0:45:43.200,0:45:47.040
i think we might not see her in this
0:45:45.760,0:45:48.880
season
0:45:47.040,0:45:50.560
but definitely but we’ll definitely see
0:45:48.880,0:45:54.480
her again she might show up in the
0:45:50.560,0:45:56.000
finale but i i i it concerns me that
0:45:54.480,0:45:58.880
you’re having all these
0:45:56.000,0:46:00.000
mean famous people show up in this show
0:45:58.880,0:46:02.640
now that was supposed to be held
0:46:00.000,0:46:04.000
on the fringe right so we’ll we’ll see
0:46:02.640,0:46:07.839
how much they use i don’t want to see
0:46:04.000,0:46:09.839
them overuse these key characters
0:46:07.839,0:46:12.240
the last thing here was a personal
0:46:09.839,0:46:15.359
favorite of mine and that was
0:46:12.240,0:46:19.280
the next leg on his journey
0:46:15.359,0:46:20.480
to help roku is he’s being sent to
0:46:19.280,0:46:23.680
tython
0:46:20.480,0:46:26.960
now tython is a central theme
0:46:23.680,0:46:27.760
world in the star wars the old republic
0:46:26.960,0:46:29.680
game
0:46:27.760,0:46:31.599
in fact that’s your starting world if
0:46:29.680,0:46:35.200
you play on the light side
0:46:31.599,0:46:36.560
and it is it’s billed as the first jedi
0:46:35.200,0:46:39.680
temple
0:46:36.560,0:46:42.480
of course the one that we see look at in
0:46:39.680,0:46:44.000
force awakens is the first jedi temple
0:46:42.480,0:46:45.520
so there’s a lot of first jedi temples
0:46:44.000,0:46:48.240
out there i mean it’s like
0:46:45.520,0:46:48.560
the first jedi temple of this location
0:46:48.240,0:46:51.119
right
0:46:48.560,0:46:51.920
the first jedi temple of that location
0:46:51.119,0:46:54.319
it’s like you know
0:46:51.920,0:46:55.920
joe’s famous hamburgers you know why is
0:46:54.319,0:46:58.160
it famous because i said it’s famous
0:46:55.920,0:47:01.680
right why is this the first
0:46:58.160,0:47:04.960
because i said it is gotcha uh so
0:47:01.680,0:47:07.520
they’re tying uh star wars republican
0:47:04.960,0:47:08.560
which had been declared non-canon back
0:47:07.520,0:47:11.040
when lucas
0:47:08.560,0:47:11.839
still controlled things so that offers
0:47:11.040,0:47:13.359
some hope
0:47:11.839,0:47:15.680
right so now all of a sudden everything
0:47:13.359,0:47:18.240
that wasn’t is now
0:47:15.680,0:47:20.079
little by little being brought in right
0:47:18.240,0:47:21.599
and one of those things that i think a
0:47:20.079,0:47:24.640
lot of people would love to see
0:47:21.599,0:47:26.800
is the return of darth revan who was a
0:47:24.640,0:47:28.079
jedi then was a sith then was a jedi
0:47:26.800,0:47:29.680
then was a sith and then
0:47:28.079,0:47:32.880
went schizophrenic and had split
0:47:29.680,0:47:32.880
personality and everything else
0:47:34.079,0:47:37.119
the interesting thing about rabbit was
0:47:35.920,0:47:39.040
reverend was all
0:47:37.119,0:47:40.559
old republic he was originally in
0:47:39.040,0:47:42.559
knights of the old republic
0:47:40.559,0:47:44.480
then he showed up in star wars the old
0:47:42.559,0:47:46.800
republic both of which have been
0:47:44.480,0:47:50.400
considered non-canon now
0:47:46.800,0:47:53.839
but they recently released his
0:47:50.400,0:47:56.079
ultimate force effects lightsaber
0:47:53.839,0:47:58.400
which seems to suggest that there is a
0:47:56.079,0:48:00.480
market out there for it
0:47:58.400,0:48:01.920
right that he might be around he might
0:48:00.480,0:48:03.599
be coming back because he
0:48:01.920,0:48:04.960
he’s one of these ones you can’t kill
0:48:03.599,0:48:06.800
right because he’s been killed like 12
0:48:04.960,0:48:10.319
times and he keeps coming back
0:48:06.800,0:48:13.119
he’s like the jesus of star wars jesus
0:48:10.319,0:48:13.599
um nothing sacrilegious about that at
0:48:13.119,0:48:15.599
all
0:48:13.599,0:48:17.359
may the force be with you and also with
0:48:15.599,0:48:19.520
you thank you there we go we got that
0:48:17.359,0:48:22.960
out of our system
0:48:19.520,0:48:25.839
um and the last thing with regard to
0:48:22.960,0:48:26.240
tython is that he’s told to take groku
0:48:25.839,0:48:28.079
there
0:48:26.240,0:48:30.559
baby yoda there and put him up on this
0:48:28.079,0:48:34.640
seeing stone which is similar to what
0:48:30.559,0:48:37.839
uh luke sat on in uh
0:48:34.640,0:48:40.319
last jedi i forget which terrible
0:48:37.839,0:48:41.359
sequel movie it was the one where they
0:48:40.319,0:48:44.240
killed luke off
0:48:41.359,0:48:46.000
uh needlessly but it’s similar to that
0:48:44.240,0:48:48.079
where it’s the high point of the temple
0:48:46.000,0:48:49.119
and and it’s a focal point of all that
0:48:48.079,0:48:50.960
stuff
0:48:49.119,0:48:52.160
and he’s supposed to reach out into the
0:48:50.960,0:48:54.960
force
0:48:52.160,0:48:56.960
and it’s supposed to send out a beacon
0:48:54.960,0:48:58.559
of some sort the groku beacon will call
0:48:56.960,0:49:02.880
it
0:48:58.559,0:49:03.520
to all force users now she depicts this
0:49:02.880,0:49:06.480
as oh
0:49:03.520,0:49:08.000
it should reach out to all the jedi and
0:49:06.480,0:49:09.839
the question that that
0:49:08.000,0:49:11.760
begs to be asked is well wouldn’t it
0:49:09.839,0:49:14.800
reach out to all force users
0:49:11.760,0:49:17.920
light side and dark side right so what
0:49:14.800,0:49:19.680
dark side users are out there and what
0:49:17.920,0:49:23.520
light side users because we already
0:49:19.680,0:49:26.880
have um the the recent game with
0:49:23.520,0:49:30.079
calcutta uh calcastus
0:49:26.880,0:49:31.920
calcastus i forget what he you murdered
0:49:30.079,0:49:35.280
his name last time we talked about him
0:49:31.920,0:49:37.119
he was from the new uh star wars
0:49:35.280,0:49:38.720
something something game
0:49:37.119,0:49:40.559
and they they released his lightsaber
0:49:38.720,0:49:43.040
they wrote it on his lightsaber oh
0:49:40.559,0:49:44.079
right right so he’s obviously out there
0:49:43.040,0:49:47.040
in this time frame too
0:49:44.079,0:49:48.480
so does he show up played by i forget
0:49:47.040,0:49:48.720
the actor’s name who played the joker
0:49:48.480,0:49:51.920
and
0:49:48.720,0:49:53.760
uh gotham yeah
0:49:51.920,0:49:55.599
help me out here you watch the show i
0:49:53.760,0:49:58.720
didn’t choke her and go
0:49:55.599,0:50:00.160
oh oh i don’t even remember his name
0:49:58.720,0:50:01.920
that guy but i know who you’re talking
0:50:00.160,0:50:03.440
about yeah okay uh
0:50:01.920,0:50:05.280
so he might show up in the show at some
0:50:03.440,0:50:07.040
point in time too because you know we
0:50:05.280,0:50:08.559
turned on the lighthouse here and we’re
0:50:07.040,0:50:11.760
we’re telling everyone to come
0:50:08.559,0:50:13.839
come see groco right so
0:50:11.760,0:50:15.440
i’m curious where that’s gonna go so
0:50:13.839,0:50:16.480
that were the four takeaways that i had
0:50:15.440,0:50:18.079
for the show
0:50:16.480,0:50:19.599
a couple of things that i’m interested
0:50:18.079,0:50:21.119
in i
0:50:19.599,0:50:23.680
don’t know if we’re gonna see these play
0:50:21.119,0:50:26.000
out on mandalorian
0:50:23.680,0:50:27.119
because there’s already talk of an
0:50:26.000,0:50:28.960
ahsoka
0:50:27.119,0:50:30.559
television show live action spin-off
0:50:28.960,0:50:32.079
that might be happening
0:50:30.559,0:50:34.400
that you might see a lot of the thrawn
0:50:32.079,0:50:35.920
stuff and and the other rebel stuff
0:50:34.400,0:50:39.520
happen there
0:50:35.920,0:50:41.480
so we’ll see but each week it seems like
0:50:39.520,0:50:44.640
they’re dropping
0:50:41.480,0:50:45.040
blockbuster style hints here and there
0:50:44.640,0:50:48.640
yeah
0:50:45.040,0:50:50.480
yeah last week it was the uh the clones
0:50:48.640,0:50:53.040
and the first order reference
0:50:50.480,0:50:54.319
the death troopers i want to call them
0:50:53.040,0:50:56.000
dark troopers i don’t think they’re
0:50:54.319,0:50:58.800
definitely true
0:50:56.000,0:50:59.760
death troopers are what uh director
0:50:58.800,0:51:01.440
krennic had
0:50:59.760,0:51:02.880
okay they were just storm troopers in
0:51:01.440,0:51:04.720
black armor okay
0:51:02.880,0:51:06.319
it’s amazing what storm troopers who
0:51:04.720,0:51:10.079
can’t shoot anything can do with a scan
0:51:06.319,0:51:12.400
a can of spray they still can’t shoot
0:51:10.079,0:51:12.400
anything
0:51:13.119,0:51:19.200
so anyway uh assuming the show continues
0:51:16.480,0:51:20.559
uh we might be bringing mando moments
0:51:19.200,0:51:23.599
back to do another sure
0:51:20.559,0:51:25.359
in uh analysis of it
0:51:23.599,0:51:27.920
sure but that was all we had we’re
0:51:25.359,0:51:30.000
running short on time so let’s move on
0:51:27.920,0:51:31.599
we’ll be we’re just gonna move right
0:51:30.000,0:51:32.960
into because i’ll hit the button here
0:51:31.599,0:51:35.359
and we’re not gonna get any sounds
0:51:32.960,0:51:36.000
okay uh we’re just gonna move right into
0:51:35.359,0:51:38.640
entertainment
0:51:36.000,0:51:39.200
news so you can come back now okay we’re
0:51:38.640,0:51:43.119
good
0:51:39.200,0:51:43.119
yay wait i’ll push the transition
0:51:43.880,0:51:47.839
[Applause]
0:51:45.080,0:51:50.160
[Music]
0:51:47.839,0:51:52.160
i should do that okay now we’re back so
0:51:50.160,0:51:55.599
let’s talk entertainment news
0:51:52.160,0:51:56.160
uh i feel like this show just it’s lost
0:51:55.599,0:51:59.359
such
0:51:56.160,0:52:00.079
production value this weekend some days
0:51:59.359,0:52:03.119
it’s good
0:52:00.079,0:52:04.480
some days it’s not it’s okay uh so let’s
0:52:03.119,0:52:06.960
talk about
0:52:04.480,0:52:07.839
thanksgiving classic that’s giving back
0:52:06.960,0:52:10.319
so well
0:52:07.839,0:52:11.920
wishers have donated more than a hundred
0:52:10.319,0:52:14.880
thousand dollars to help
0:52:11.920,0:52:16.319
alice brock the artist and former cook
0:52:14.880,0:52:19.440
immortalized by for
0:52:16.319,0:52:21.839
folk singer arlo guthrie in his classic
0:52:19.440,0:52:23.040
thanksgiving tune alice’s restaurant
0:52:21.839,0:52:25.440
massacre
0:52:23.040,0:52:27.680
nearly 2 000 people had pitched in over
0:52:25.440,0:52:30.079
the last two months on a gofundme
0:52:27.680,0:52:34.240
to help the 80 year old hippie who had
0:52:30.079,0:52:37.440
been hit by hard times since the 1967
0:52:34.240,0:52:41.280
release of guthrie’s 18 minute long
0:52:37.440,0:52:43.760
talk talking blues ballad
0:52:41.280,0:52:44.880
it’s been tremendous god what a relief
0:52:43.760,0:52:47.440
brock told
0:52:44.880,0:52:48.079
the new york post on thursday about the
0:52:47.440,0:52:51.119
outpour
0:52:48.079,0:52:51.839
of support uh the new york born woman’s
0:52:51.119,0:52:54.960
home and
0:52:51.839,0:52:57.280
for former diner in massachusetts
0:52:54.960,0:52:59.760
were the setting of guthrie’s song about
0:52:57.280,0:53:03.680
this how the singer
0:52:59.760,0:53:05.839
was arrested in 1965 on thanksgiving day
0:53:03.680,0:53:08.480
for littering and that actually kept him
0:53:05.839,0:53:11.520
out of the army during the vietnam war
0:53:08.480,0:53:12.640
um you know as the song goes you can get
0:53:11.520,0:53:15.680
anything you want at
0:53:12.640,0:53:19.200
alice’s restaurant they actually
0:53:15.680,0:53:22.480
even did a comedy based on the song
0:53:19.200,0:53:24.480
alice’s restaurant that came out in 1969
0:53:22.480,0:53:26.480
and brock who didn’t want to play
0:53:24.480,0:53:29.520
herself on the big screen
0:53:26.480,0:53:29.760
on the big screen actually took apart as
0:53:29.520,0:53:33.760
an
0:53:29.760,0:53:36.480
extra in the movie um people used to say
0:53:33.760,0:53:37.440
oh my mother you know knows who you are
0:53:36.480,0:53:39.040
and now
0:53:37.440,0:53:40.720
people are saying oh my grandmother
0:53:39.040,0:53:44.400
knows who who you are
0:53:40.720,0:53:47.839
how she’s you know become this folk icon
0:53:44.400,0:53:50.160
um so after the flick and the closing
0:53:47.839,0:53:51.280
of her diner she opened a larger
0:53:50.160,0:53:54.720
restaurant
0:53:51.280,0:53:56.559
uh in 1976 and continued to give back to
0:53:54.720,0:53:58.480
the community
0:53:56.559,0:54:00.559
she said there are a few things that i
0:53:58.480,0:54:02.559
wouldn’t give to people
0:54:00.559,0:54:04.480
so if somebody asked me for a job i gave
0:54:02.559,0:54:06.240
them a job and especially if they were
0:54:04.480,0:54:08.240
really in need of a job
0:54:06.240,0:54:09.520
like the people that were on parole or
0:54:08.240,0:54:12.720
people who didn’t have
0:54:09.520,0:54:13.920
rent money and the unfortunately the
0:54:12.720,0:54:17.280
eatery went under
0:54:13.920,0:54:17.920
in the late 70s and she ended up moving
0:54:17.280,0:54:20.640
to another
0:54:17.920,0:54:21.119
area of massachusetts where she was
0:54:20.640,0:54:24.480
working
0:54:21.119,0:54:25.680
as a prep cook and doing art you know
0:54:24.480,0:54:28.480
during the day
0:54:25.680,0:54:30.079
but unfortunately money ran out and you
0:54:28.480,0:54:32.960
know she was struggling
0:54:30.079,0:54:35.119
to pay the mortgage and then she ended
0:54:32.960,0:54:36.799
up moving in with some people
0:54:35.119,0:54:38.480
and then unfortunately she had some
0:54:36.799,0:54:39.839
health issues and that’s really where
0:54:38.480,0:54:43.920
things kind of went uh
0:54:39.839,0:54:45.920
downhill and then she had spent
0:54:43.920,0:54:48.160
time in a hospital and then a nursing
0:54:45.920,0:54:50.480
home but now she’s finally back
0:54:48.160,0:54:52.000
in her little cottage but she needed
0:54:50.480,0:54:54.400
help with the rent
0:54:52.000,0:54:57.280
and that’s when a friend of hers who was
0:54:54.400,0:54:59.520
a member of a 70s and 80s
0:54:57.280,0:55:01.920
new wave band had kind of stepped in and
0:54:59.520,0:55:04.319
created this online fundraiser
0:55:01.920,0:55:06.319
and had actually raised over a hundred
0:55:04.319,0:55:09.359
thousand dollars um
0:55:06.319,0:55:10.880
you know as of last thursday um she had
0:55:09.359,0:55:12.880
said with the money that was raised i’ll
0:55:10.880,0:55:15.680
be able to live decently for the next
0:55:12.880,0:55:16.480
you know two or three years um she said
0:55:15.680,0:55:19.119
that she was
0:55:16.480,0:55:20.079
you know kind of reluctant and and
0:55:19.119,0:55:22.240
embarrassed
0:55:20.079,0:55:23.280
by it because she didn’t want to ask
0:55:22.240,0:55:25.599
people but
0:55:23.280,0:55:28.640
she felt very humbled that there were so
0:55:25.599,0:55:31.839
many fans out there who knew who she was
0:55:28.640,0:55:34.240
and that wanted you know to give back
0:55:31.839,0:55:36.160
that’s nice that’s it’s a nice
0:55:34.240,0:55:36.960
thanksgiving story and we all know that
0:55:36.160,0:55:39.520
thanksgiving
0:55:36.960,0:55:40.640
is not thanksgiving until we hear
0:55:39.520,0:55:42.720
alice’s restaurant
0:55:40.640,0:55:43.670
absolutely and then immediately after
0:55:42.720,0:55:45.119
that we hear
0:55:43.670,0:55:48.160
[Music]
0:55:45.119,0:55:49.599
what’s the song from waitresses you like
0:55:48.160,0:55:51.680
oh christmas wrapping christmas
0:55:49.599,0:55:52.400
wrappings then we can start playing
0:55:51.680,0:55:55.520
christmas then
0:55:52.400,0:55:56.559
then i shall allow it being the nice
0:55:55.520,0:56:00.880
jewish girl that i
0:55:56.559,0:56:03.680
am there you go very generous of you
0:56:00.880,0:56:05.520
so tell us something we probably didn’t
0:56:03.680,0:56:08.160
know about stanley
0:56:05.520,0:56:10.160
so this was this was a cute little thing
0:56:08.160,0:56:13.280
that just kind of popped up
0:56:10.160,0:56:16.319
so you know obviously
0:56:13.280,0:56:19.200
we we talked about it you know just uh
0:56:16.319,0:56:19.920
last week or the week before about you
0:56:19.200,0:56:22.160
know some
0:56:19.920,0:56:23.520
things popping up it’s been two years
0:56:22.160,0:56:26.480
now that that stan
0:56:23.520,0:56:28.799
had you know stan lee had passed away um
0:56:26.480,0:56:31.119
so the late greatly missed stan lee
0:56:28.799,0:56:32.160
was known for his creativity his
0:56:31.119,0:56:35.040
kindness
0:56:32.160,0:56:37.280
and his incredible moral compass he’s
0:56:35.040,0:56:39.760
also known for speaking his mind
0:56:37.280,0:56:40.720
uh so it seems that lee’s former sound
0:56:39.760,0:56:43.839
engineer
0:56:40.720,0:56:46.079
uh aaron fromm had captured of the very
0:56:43.839,0:56:49.440
essence of lee in a recording that
0:56:46.079,0:56:50.400
showcases the marvel legend going off on
0:56:49.440,0:56:53.440
a very
0:56:50.400,0:56:55.760
hilarious and profane rant
0:56:53.440,0:56:56.799
that had everybody in the studio
0:56:55.760,0:56:59.920
laughing
0:56:56.799,0:57:02.799
so fromm actually collaborated with
0:56:59.920,0:57:04.480
an artist to animate this oddly
0:57:02.799,0:57:06.960
heartwarming glimpse
0:57:04.480,0:57:08.640
into the man’s great mind calling it
0:57:06.960,0:57:12.559
sessions with stan
0:57:08.640,0:57:16.160
it’s a very quick one minute and 38
0:57:12.559,0:57:17.280
animated video that is very not safe for
0:57:16.160,0:57:19.440
work so
0:57:17.280,0:57:20.480
don’t have the kids listen to it unless
0:57:19.440,0:57:22.799
they’re
0:57:20.480,0:57:24.240
older and don’t listen to it if you
0:57:22.799,0:57:25.839
actually are
0:57:24.240,0:57:27.680
going into work if you’re working from
0:57:25.839,0:57:30.559
home then that’s different um
0:57:27.680,0:57:31.040
but it’s definitely worth a listen if
0:57:30.559,0:57:34.799
you are
0:57:31.040,0:57:37.359
a fan of stan lee and the animation
0:57:34.799,0:57:38.000
is is a is adorable because you can
0:57:37.359,0:57:41.680
totally
0:57:38.000,0:57:43.359
see stan doing that in you know knowing
0:57:41.680,0:57:46.400
his mannerisms when you
0:57:43.359,0:57:47.599
hear him talk and and and would see him
0:57:46.400,0:57:50.000
perform
0:57:47.599,0:57:51.680
and again it’s a cute little you know he
0:57:50.000,0:57:52.480
just kind of goes off on a little
0:57:51.680,0:57:55.839
tangent
0:57:52.480,0:57:58.319
and it’s it’s a nice little thing that
0:57:55.839,0:57:59.119
you wouldn’t expect to hear from him but
0:57:58.319,0:58:02.880
done
0:57:59.119,0:58:04.880
in classic stan yeah cool very cool
0:58:02.880,0:58:08.860
uh we’ll be right back with our
0:58:04.880,0:58:10.050
insightful picks
0:58:08.860,0:58:11.520
[Applause]
0:58:10.050,0:58:14.319
[Music]
0:58:11.520,0:58:16.720
go for your insightful pick for dancing
0:58:14.319,0:58:16.720
the music
0:58:18.640,0:58:25.839
so my insightful pick um
0:58:22.240,0:58:28.880
was one that we had watched as a
0:58:25.839,0:58:32.960
family you’re a thief
0:58:28.880,0:58:32.960
what you didn’t write it down i did
0:58:34.720,0:58:38.720
anyway it is the lego star wars holiday
0:58:37.839,0:58:42.240
special
0:58:38.720,0:58:45.440
uh that premiered on disney plus on
0:58:42.240,0:58:49.200
life day uh last week
0:58:45.440,0:58:52.480
excuse me um and it’s
0:58:49.200,0:58:54.640
a much better version of the
0:58:52.480,0:58:55.520
star wars holiday special than the
0:58:54.640,0:58:58.079
original
0:58:55.520,0:58:58.079
sacrilege
0:58:59.260,0:59:04.079
[Music]
0:59:00.960,0:59:07.520
it’s just a cute you know it’s
0:59:04.079,0:59:10.559
not anything like the legos
0:59:07.520,0:59:12.640
uh movies that have come out uh lego
0:59:10.559,0:59:15.119
batman or or the lego movie
0:59:12.640,0:59:15.920
it’s it’s done more if you’ve ever
0:59:15.119,0:59:19.839
watched
0:59:15.920,0:59:22.000
the different star wars lego
0:59:19.839,0:59:22.880
uh shows that have come out it’s done
0:59:22.000,0:59:25.280
you know along
0:59:22.880,0:59:26.000
those those lines uh some of the same
0:59:25.280,0:59:29.280
voices
0:59:26.000,0:59:30.079
but then we also had uh for a lot of the
0:59:29.280,0:59:33.440
current
0:59:30.079,0:59:37.119
characters the actual actors did
0:59:33.440,0:59:39.920
uh those voices uh in in this episode
0:59:37.119,0:59:42.319
um so the legos holiday uh special is a
0:59:39.920,0:59:45.280
playful and joyous celebration of
0:59:42.319,0:59:47.119
of the skywalker saga set after the
0:59:45.280,0:59:49.920
events of episode 9
0:59:47.119,0:59:52.079
featuring a cross-timeline mashup of
0:59:49.920,0:59:54.480
iconic heroes and villains
0:59:52.079,0:59:55.520
all set against the trappings and
0:59:54.480,0:59:58.160
holidays
0:59:55.520,0:59:58.880
and spirits of the holidays so the story
0:59:58.160,1:00:01.680
opens
0:59:58.880,1:00:03.680
with the festive holiday of life day
1:00:01.680,1:00:04.880
everybody across the galaxy is in a
1:00:03.680,1:00:08.160
festive spirit
1:00:04.880,1:00:09.040
but rey is just so focused on embarking
1:00:08.160,1:00:12.319
on a mission
1:00:09.040,1:00:13.040
and bb-8 joins her to go to the jedi
1:00:12.319,1:00:16.240
temple
1:00:13.040,1:00:19.520
to kind of find more meaning
1:00:16.240,1:00:23.280
to things and when she does that
1:00:19.520,1:00:25.599
this whole adventure begins where
1:00:23.280,1:00:27.119
basically every character throughout
1:00:25.599,1:00:29.920
star wars
1:00:27.119,1:00:30.799
make some sort of an appearance in this
1:00:29.920,1:00:33.839
um
1:00:30.799,1:00:36.240
and and i think that kind of added
1:00:33.839,1:00:37.119
to the fun of it because you know this
1:00:36.240,1:00:40.319
would never
1:00:37.119,1:00:42.880
happen in any star wars movie but
1:00:40.319,1:00:43.599
you could do it in in star wars lego it
1:00:42.880,1:00:46.720
was
1:00:43.599,1:00:47.359
kind of a doctor who ish thing where you
1:00:46.720,1:00:49.599
had
1:00:47.359,1:00:51.119
you know all three versions of some of
1:00:49.599,1:00:54.079
the same characters
1:00:51.119,1:00:54.799
uh together in in one scene which was
1:00:54.079,1:00:56.880
just kind of
1:00:54.799,1:00:58.480
it was cute it was you know
1:00:56.880,1:01:01.920
tongue-in-cheek there were
1:00:58.480,1:01:04.880
little you know um you know uh
1:01:01.920,1:01:06.319
easter eggs for for the parents and and
1:01:04.880,1:01:09.119
you know jokes for them
1:01:06.319,1:01:09.760
and plenty of jokes you know for the
1:01:09.119,1:01:12.480
kids
1:01:09.760,1:01:13.200
with a nice happy ending you know at the
1:01:12.480,1:01:16.640
end so
1:01:13.200,1:01:19.440
it did leave us with uh a new
1:01:16.640,1:01:20.000
eternal question of star wars of which
1:01:19.440,1:01:23.520
hand
1:01:20.000,1:01:26.400
shot first right good pick
1:01:23.520,1:01:26.400
good pick thank you
1:01:27.490,1:01:30.720
[Applause]
1:01:28.680,1:01:34.400
[Music]
1:01:30.720,1:01:38.480
so my pick this week is uh
1:01:34.400,1:01:40.400
not star wars holiday special uh i’m not
1:01:38.480,1:01:43.280
at all bitter about that
1:01:40.400,1:01:44.240
just for the record um to go on record
1:01:43.280,1:01:47.040
with that right
1:01:44.240,1:01:48.079
my pick this week uh is actually a
1:01:47.040,1:01:52.640
documentary
1:01:48.079,1:01:55.280
called warrior’s way on amazon prime
1:01:52.640,1:01:55.680
the ancient warriors often described as
1:01:55.280,1:01:58.640
both
1:01:55.680,1:01:59.599
gallant and heroic but what was life
1:01:58.640,1:02:02.799
truly like
1:01:59.599,1:02:04.079
for history’s martial men the series
1:02:02.799,1:02:06.880
traces the lives of
1:02:04.079,1:02:08.640
famous warriors from childhood training
1:02:06.880,1:02:11.039
to bloody battle
1:02:08.640,1:02:12.880
each episode focuses on legendary
1:02:11.039,1:02:14.559
warlike cultures
1:02:12.880,1:02:17.200
known for their achievements on the
1:02:14.559,1:02:18.400
battlefield their knowledge of military
1:02:17.200,1:02:21.440
strategy
1:02:18.400,1:02:23.920
and innovative engineering weapons and
1:02:21.440,1:02:25.599
armor uh the interesting thing about
1:02:23.920,1:02:28.880
this is they take from
1:02:25.599,1:02:32.160
very different uh time periods uh
1:02:28.880,1:02:32.720
you take a look at the vikings you look
1:02:32.160,1:02:34.799
at
1:02:32.720,1:02:36.559
knights templars you look at celtic
1:02:34.799,1:02:39.599
warriors
1:02:36.559,1:02:40.960
you look at roman warriors scottish
1:02:39.599,1:02:44.799
klansmen
1:02:40.960,1:02:47.440
and you look even at mongolian
1:02:44.799,1:02:48.000
warriors as well and the interesting
1:02:47.440,1:02:50.960
take
1:02:48.000,1:02:52.960
on this is that they don’t just look at
1:02:50.960,1:02:55.039
the history of them
1:02:52.960,1:02:57.039
you actually look at specific
1:02:55.039,1:02:59.839
individuals that are recorded through
1:02:57.039,1:03:03.280
history and what their lives look like
1:02:59.839,1:03:06.559
so there was kind of a an overall high
1:03:03.280,1:03:08.240
arcing uh view of what a roman warrior
1:03:06.559,1:03:09.680
is and and some of the accomplishments
1:03:08.240,1:03:12.319
of julius caesar
1:03:09.680,1:03:14.000
but you look at this one particular
1:03:12.319,1:03:15.760
legionnaire
1:03:14.000,1:03:18.160
who happened to come from one of the
1:03:15.760,1:03:19.200
barbarian tribes and his father became a
1:03:18.160,1:03:21.440
roman citizen
1:03:19.200,1:03:22.960
and a lot of background information that
1:03:21.440,1:03:25.039
you wouldn’t normally see on a
1:03:22.960,1:03:26.720
documentary like this
1:03:25.039,1:03:28.839
so a very interesting very different
1:03:26.720,1:03:31.839
take on
1:03:28.839,1:03:34.960
the military
1:03:31.839,1:03:45.039
um documentary style uh
1:03:34.960,1:03:46.559
warrior’s way on amazon prime
1:03:45.039,1:03:48.240
thank you i appreciate that no problem
1:03:46.559,1:03:50.960
i’m here for you um
1:03:48.240,1:03:51.280
so i think that was it despite all of
1:03:50.960,1:03:54.400
the
1:03:51.280,1:03:55.520
technical issues we had this week um i
1:03:54.400,1:03:57.920
apologize to
1:03:55.520,1:03:59.280
those who are listening live this week
1:03:57.920,1:04:01.119
i’m going to try and get all that clean
1:03:59.280,1:04:03.200
up in post
1:04:01.119,1:04:04.799
so uh we we should look a little bit
1:04:03.200,1:04:06.400
more professional
1:04:04.799,1:04:08.000
on monday morning when it goes live
1:04:06.400,1:04:11.119
that’s the fun of that
1:04:08.000,1:04:14.160

1:05:35.280,1:05:39.280
all right i did want to put a little
1:05:37.520,1:05:41.760
teaser out there that we do
1:05:39.280,1:05:42.799
have our holiday special we are
1:05:41.760,1:05:45.280
currently
1:05:42.799,1:05:46.400
in post-production we did the recording
1:05:45.280,1:05:49.440
for it
1:05:46.400,1:05:51.359
uh i am trying to desperately find
1:05:49.440,1:05:52.640
material that i can use to make a video
1:05:51.359,1:05:54.000
because
1:05:52.640,1:05:56.400
you know it’s always better when you can
1:05:54.000,1:05:57.760
watch pictures slowly move on the screen
1:05:56.400,1:05:58.160
while you’re listening to the audio
1:05:57.760,1:06:00.000
right
1:05:58.160,1:06:02.960
right so hopefully we’ll have that for
1:06:00.000,1:06:05.440
you maybe next week
1:06:02.960,1:06:07.039
that’s what i’m shooting for okay um
1:06:05.440,1:06:08.559
since i have to do so much post work on
1:06:07.039,1:06:09.440
this one i probably won’t finish it this
1:06:08.559,1:06:11.359
weekend
1:06:09.440,1:06:13.680
that’s okay not that i’m bitter about
1:06:11.359,1:06:16.000
that either no not at all
1:06:13.680,1:06:17.039
just saying uh so that’s all we had this
1:06:16.000,1:06:18.799
week
1:06:17.039,1:06:33.839
another one in the books have a good
1:06:18.799,1:06:33.839
week everyone out real quietly
1:06:42.380,1:06:51.680
