This week is a cute kitten episode. We showcase the newest addition to our family, our little kitten Pumpkin. We’ll discuss the circumstances of why we decided to expand our family after feeling the loss of one of our beloved elder cats. We’ll talk about where we found pumpkin, who we were lucky enough to get her from and the details of the adoption process.
The second half of the show is dedicated to Pumpkin herself. The diva of a kitten makes an early and unexpected appearance early on in the show but is kind enough to come back to close out the show with us. We’ll talk about some of the fun little things we’ve discovered about her so far, explore her interesting personality, detail how she’s gotten along with the rest of the family and share some fun stories we’ve got from her in just the last couple of weeks.
Stick around until the end of the show with a special bonus montage of some of our favorite photo’s that we’ve snapped of the cute little kitten, including her holiday outfit!

[SEGMENT 1]
Why?
- We’re a cat family
- For most of our time in the house each of us had a cat
- Dorian was a neighborhood stray who adopted the family
- Eventually became Maddie’s cat and spent a lot of time with Maddie
- Was very protective of Maddie
- Would sleep in Maddies room
- Passed away earlier this year
- Maddie wanted to fill the gap left by Dorian, even though we knew we couldn’t replace Dorian
- Wanted a cat that would bond with Madison
- Wanted a young cat that could grow up with Maddie
- Wanted Maddie to learn how to care for the cats
- Wanted Maddie to feel the responsibility of caring for another living thing
- Knew that we’d be able to spend plenty of time with a new cat working and schooling from home at the moment
- Wanted to do our part for the pet community by caring for a rescue cat
[AD1: SSE]
[SEGMENT 2]
Where?
- Adopted from Homeward Bound
- Formerly known as Camden County Animal Shelter
- Homewardboundnj.org

How?
- Adoption Requirements
- Had to fill out a brief questionnaire and do an interview
- Needed to ensure we were good parents
- Went to go meet her are her foster parents house on November 18th
- Cost of $150 due to her young age
- Costs for adoption vary based on cat age
- She had already been spayed with her first set of shots already
- Pumpkin had a bit of a cold and we were provided with her remaining antibiotics
- Picking Pumpkin
- Originally went to visit a different kitten for adoption
- Pumpkin (originally Holly) chose Maddie by being the only kitten to purr when she held her
- Pumpkin was calm and quiet and fell asleep in Maddies arms
- Maddie like the variety of colors in Pumpkin’s fur

i am your host joseph whalen and my

0:01:04.640,0:01:08.080
madison whalen hi everyone how you doing
0:01:07.200,0:01:10.640
today maddie
0:01:08.080,0:01:11.680
i’m doing pretty well how about you i’m
0:01:10.640,0:01:14.799
doing all right
0:01:11.680,0:01:16.320
doing all right uh how was your holiday
0:01:14.799,0:01:19.759
week this week
0:01:16.320,0:01:23.040
definitely not super busy um nothing
0:01:19.759,0:01:25.439
um has really uh gone bad and
0:01:23.040,0:01:28.000
thanksgiving was quite interesting
0:01:25.439,0:01:29.200
it was we unfortunately because of kovic
0:01:28.000,0:01:32.240
could not get together with
0:01:29.200,0:01:34.320
uh the family like we usually do uh how
0:01:32.240,0:01:37.600
do we normally spend our thanksgivings
0:01:34.320,0:01:39.280
we normally go to gma’s house and um
0:01:37.600,0:01:41.200
we spend thanksgiving there with the
0:01:39.280,0:01:44.720
rest of the family we do
0:01:41.200,0:01:45.600
and it is usually uh quite the zoo up
0:01:44.720,0:01:48.079
there
0:01:45.600,0:01:49.200
when we do and sometimes because you
0:01:48.079,0:01:50.640
know some of the
0:01:49.200,0:01:53.119
the some of the folks some of the family
0:01:50.640,0:01:56.159
members bring animals with them
0:01:53.119,0:01:58.079
uh but usually there’s a large crowd
0:01:56.159,0:01:59.200
there’s a good time to be had there’s
0:01:58.079,0:02:02.159
tons of food
0:01:59.200,0:02:04.399
and uh lots of gains to be played we
0:02:02.159,0:02:06.079
didn’t get to do that this year though
0:02:04.399,0:02:07.439
what how did we do our uh our
0:02:06.079,0:02:10.399
thanksgiving this year
0:02:07.439,0:02:10.800
we decided to do a zoo meeting where we
0:02:10.399,0:02:13.120
all
0:02:10.800,0:02:15.120
got together talked and we did some of
0:02:13.120,0:02:17.840
the family traditions like
0:02:15.120,0:02:19.599
watching the parade and the dog show and
0:02:17.840,0:02:21.520
we even got to play some
0:02:19.599,0:02:23.760
we even got to play categories at some
0:02:21.520,0:02:24.480
point yeah it was very interesting so we
0:02:23.760,0:02:26.959
had the
0:02:24.480,0:02:27.840
zoom call was pretty much going all day
0:02:26.959,0:02:29.200
uh we
0:02:27.840,0:02:32.000
you and i would pop in and out
0:02:29.200,0:02:34.239
periodically we had it going on
0:02:32.000,0:02:36.879
my ipad at one point in time then mommy
0:02:34.239,0:02:39.120
switched over to her laptop
0:02:36.879,0:02:41.040
we were traveling around the house with
0:02:39.120,0:02:43.280
it so it was
0:02:41.040,0:02:44.879
not like being in person but as close to
0:02:43.280,0:02:46.160
being there in person as you could
0:02:44.879,0:02:49.280
possibly get
0:02:46.160,0:02:50.160
yep we did dinner ourselves here we did
0:02:49.280,0:02:52.000
a small dinner
0:02:50.160,0:02:54.160
but we did have turkey mommy didn’t do a
0:02:52.000,0:02:56.879
full uh turkey dinner
0:02:54.160,0:02:57.440
we had a turkey breast we had a turkey
0:02:56.879,0:03:00.000
leg
0:02:57.440,0:03:01.840
with a thigh what else did we have we
0:03:00.000,0:03:03.200
had mashed potatoes which i wasn’t
0:03:01.840,0:03:05.040
they were my mashed potatoes and i
0:03:03.200,0:03:06.640
wasn’t happy with them well i mean they
0:03:05.040,0:03:09.680
were kind of goopy but
0:03:06.640,0:03:10.239
goopy yes that’s a good way to describe
0:03:09.680,0:03:12.319
them
0:03:10.239,0:03:13.680
what else do we have we had filling we
0:03:12.319,0:03:17.599
had pineapples
0:03:13.680,0:03:21.200
pineapples we also had cranberry sauce
0:03:17.599,0:03:25.360
uh let’s see uh we had corn corn
0:03:21.200,0:03:27.760
and then we had um cheesecake
0:03:25.360,0:03:28.720
you and i made our cheesecake on
0:03:27.760,0:03:32.159
wednesday right
0:03:28.720,0:03:33.360
yep so all the traditional foods uh we
0:03:32.159,0:03:34.560
got to see
0:03:33.360,0:03:37.360
pretty much all the people we would
0:03:34.560,0:03:40.400
normally see through zoom at least
0:03:37.360,0:03:40.720
but uh not bad not a bad thanksgiving i
0:03:40.400,0:03:43.200
mean
0:03:40.720,0:03:45.360
it certainly could have been better but
0:03:43.200,0:03:49.760
i think we made the most out of a
0:03:45.360,0:03:53.040
unusual situation yep so this week
0:03:49.760,0:03:54.720
our theme is pumpkin spices up the
0:03:53.040,0:03:55.519
family what exactly there’s a hidden
0:03:54.720,0:03:58.080
meaning in that
0:03:55.519,0:03:59.200
isn’t there so what is the meaning in
0:03:58.080,0:04:02.640
that title
0:03:59.200,0:04:05.280
so when we say when we refer to
0:04:02.640,0:04:07.439
pumpkin we’re referring to the newest
0:04:05.280,0:04:11.360
addition to our family
0:04:07.439,0:04:14.480
our new kitten which we teased last week
0:04:11.360,0:04:15.360
and her name is pumpkin yep and who is
0:04:14.480,0:04:18.880
she
0:04:15.360,0:04:22.000
uh pumpkin is a young little kitten
0:04:18.880,0:04:23.600
um she’s a girl that we ended up
0:04:22.000,0:04:26.479
adopting
0:04:23.600,0:04:28.000
i say about last week um it’s been over
0:04:26.479,0:04:31.360
a week now since we’ve had her
0:04:28.000,0:04:33.040
so um she’s a little recent to the
0:04:31.360,0:04:36.080
family but
0:04:33.040,0:04:37.120
uh definitely getting along well so that
0:04:36.080,0:04:39.919
is what this week’s
0:04:37.120,0:04:41.520
episode is all about it’s about our
0:04:39.919,0:04:44.639
experience
0:04:41.520,0:04:47.919
excuse me adopting pumpkin
0:04:44.639,0:04:48.960
and how she’s adjusting to to life with
0:04:47.919,0:04:50.560
us
0:04:48.960,0:04:52.400
where we got her from we certainly want
0:04:50.560,0:04:55.600
to give a plug to the
0:04:52.400,0:04:56.080
the kind folks that we got her from uh
0:04:55.600,0:04:58.400
and
0:04:56.080,0:05:00.240
a little bit about her and we have a
0:04:58.400,0:05:03.600
little video to show
0:05:00.240,0:05:06.240
and then she’ll make her first official
0:05:03.600,0:05:08.400
appearance on the podcast
0:05:06.240,0:05:10.400
but before we do that i would invite

things
0:06:06.160,0:06:12.560
dot com are we ready to start
0:06:09.199,0:06:12.560
yes we are all right
0:06:16.720,0:06:23.360
so why did we get
0:06:20.319,0:06:24.560
pumpkin well there are multiple reasons
0:06:23.360,0:06:27.759
that go into that
0:06:24.560,0:06:29.840
uh first up we’re a cat family well you
0:06:27.759,0:06:31.199
and mommy are a cat family i’m allergic
0:06:29.840,0:06:34.800
to cats officially
0:06:31.199,0:06:37.759
well yeah so but yes as a
0:06:34.800,0:06:39.120
general rule we are a cat family yep uh
0:06:37.759,0:06:42.479
for most of our time
0:06:39.120,0:06:46.160
we each of us had our own cat
0:06:42.479,0:06:48.880
right so i have dorothy who kind of
0:06:46.160,0:06:50.479
when we adopted her from a friend of a
0:06:48.880,0:06:53.680
friend
0:06:50.479,0:06:57.599
she she kind of adopted me
0:06:53.680,0:07:01.360
um we run the same time we got leota
0:06:57.599,0:07:04.960
and leota kind of bind up with mommy
0:07:01.360,0:07:08.160
and what happened with you um
0:07:04.960,0:07:11.120
well there was this one neighborhood um
0:07:08.160,0:07:13.199
stray cat she was gray who would
0:07:11.120,0:07:14.639
sometimes come around and we decided to
0:07:13.199,0:07:17.440
end up feeding her
0:07:14.639,0:07:17.919
and soon she started to adopt the family
0:07:17.440,0:07:21.280
and
0:07:17.919,0:07:23.520
my mom um since she was gray named her
0:07:21.280,0:07:24.400
after one of her book characters dorian
0:07:23.520,0:07:28.080
gray
0:07:24.400,0:07:31.680
right right um eventually
0:07:28.080,0:07:35.199
um dorian uh became my cat
0:07:31.680,0:07:37.280
because um originally we also had
0:07:35.199,0:07:39.759
another kid at the time fluffer but she
0:07:37.280,0:07:42.400
ended up passing away when i was
0:07:39.759,0:07:43.440
um i think seven or eight around a
0:07:42.400,0:07:46.720
pretty young age
0:07:43.440,0:07:48.080
and her and um dorian kind of got along
0:07:46.720,0:07:50.560
doing was
0:07:48.080,0:07:51.199
able to meet fluffer and they had like
0:07:50.560,0:07:53.120
some
0:07:51.199,0:07:55.120
and since they were the two older cats
0:07:53.120,0:07:56.319
since both leota and dorothy were
0:07:55.120,0:08:00.319
kittens when we got them
0:07:56.319,0:08:05.599
um i guess they kind of bonded and
0:08:00.319,0:08:05.599
um it seemed that um
0:08:06.080,0:08:13.120
that’s not her okay it seemed that leota
0:08:09.919,0:08:16.639
not leota it seemed that dorian kind of
0:08:13.120,0:08:19.440
like that it seemed fluffer
0:08:16.639,0:08:20.720
told dorian like hey you might want to
0:08:19.440,0:08:24.160
take care of this kid
0:08:20.720,0:08:27.919
referring to me yeah and after that
0:08:24.160,0:08:31.039
um dorian kind of became my cat
0:08:27.919,0:08:33.599
she snuggled with me she
0:08:31.039,0:08:35.440
um was normally around me and she was
0:08:33.599,0:08:36.800
very overprotective of me
0:08:35.440,0:08:38.479
yeah that was that was interesting
0:08:36.800,0:08:41.680
because dorian uh
0:08:38.479,0:08:43.680
was around before you were born uh mommy
0:08:41.680,0:08:44.159
had durian even before mommy and i were
0:08:43.680,0:08:47.920
together
0:08:44.159,0:08:49.680
she had dorian fluffer i’m sorry fluffer
0:08:47.920,0:08:55.279
yeah
0:08:49.680,0:08:57.519
and that is here
0:08:55.279,0:08:59.600
uh she might be making an appearance uh
0:08:57.519,0:09:02.320
sooner than we thought she would
0:08:59.600,0:09:04.720
uh but fluffer uh was around before you
0:09:02.320,0:09:06.720
and i were and she was definitely a
0:09:04.720,0:09:08.800
a mommy’s cat but she was kind of
0:09:06.720,0:09:12.160
independent on her own
0:09:08.800,0:09:14.720
and then when you were born
0:09:12.160,0:09:16.959
she uh she really you know kind of
0:09:14.720,0:09:19.120
bonded with you and she was incredibly
0:09:16.959,0:09:20.640
patient with you
0:09:19.120,0:09:23.200
and then she handed off that
0:09:20.640,0:09:26.080
responsibility to dorian
0:09:23.200,0:09:27.360
when when dorian again dorian adopted us
0:09:26.080,0:09:30.320
you know she came to us
0:09:27.360,0:09:32.480
first but dory was very protective of
0:09:30.320,0:09:34.480
you and she slept in your room
0:09:32.480,0:09:35.680
almost all the time does she want to get
0:09:34.480,0:09:37.440
out
0:09:35.680,0:09:39.760
i think is that it or she’s very
0:09:37.440,0:09:41.920
talkative maybe she wants to uh
0:09:39.760,0:09:43.279
wants to have her partner you’re not
0:09:41.920,0:09:46.240
till segment three
0:09:43.279,0:09:46.240
okay boy
0:09:46.560,0:09:54.800
stars see there she’s a diva already
0:09:50.480,0:09:57.760
um so dorian passed away
0:09:54.800,0:09:58.720
and then you she passed away a few
0:09:57.760,0:10:00.160
months back
0:09:58.720,0:10:01.839
towards the beginning of the of the
0:10:00.160,0:10:03.920
quarantine
0:10:01.839,0:10:06.399
so it’s been probably about six months
0:10:03.920,0:10:09.680
or so since she had passed away
0:10:06.399,0:10:12.320
and you were without a cat and
0:10:09.680,0:10:15.040
that was one of the big impetuses for us
0:10:12.320,0:10:15.040
getting a cat
0:10:15.920,0:10:19.839
so you wanted to fill the gap that was
0:10:18.640,0:10:22.560
left by
0:10:19.839,0:10:24.640
dorian even though we knew we couldn’t
0:10:22.560,0:10:26.800
replace dorian
0:10:24.640,0:10:29.120
so what were some of the criteria we had
0:10:26.800,0:10:32.160
for getting another cat
0:10:29.120,0:10:34.720
well we had a few things uh
0:10:32.160,0:10:36.000
one thing that the cat needed to be
0:10:34.720,0:10:39.200
bonded to me
0:10:36.000,0:10:41.200
um since uh
0:10:39.200,0:10:43.279
leota was bonded to mommy and dorothy
0:10:41.200,0:10:46.160
was bonded to you we want this kitten
0:10:43.279,0:10:47.040
we wanted this kin to bond with me we
0:10:46.160,0:10:49.440
also wanted
0:10:47.040,0:10:50.880
uh the cat to be young so that she could
0:10:49.440,0:10:54.480
grow up with me
0:10:50.880,0:10:55.920
right um and you also wanted me to learn
0:10:54.480,0:10:58.320
how to take care of cats
0:10:55.920,0:10:59.440
since before you guys normally took care
0:10:58.320,0:11:02.800
of your cats
0:10:59.440,0:11:06.079
well i really didn’t i just sort of
0:11:02.800,0:11:09.360
i took you know as a as a uh
0:11:06.079,0:11:11.279
irresponsible parent to a cat i so i was
0:11:09.360,0:11:12.880
like a grandparent to a cat really i had
0:11:11.279,0:11:14.560
all the fun with the cats
0:11:12.880,0:11:17.040
and mommy did all the hard work to take
0:11:14.560,0:11:19.440
care of them
0:11:17.040,0:11:21.040
but the one of the one of the whole
0:11:19.440,0:11:23.440
purposes of this
0:11:21.040,0:11:24.959
was so that you could learn how to take
0:11:23.440,0:11:27.279
care of
0:11:24.959,0:11:28.160
a cat and so that you could learn the
0:11:27.279,0:11:30.240
responsibility
0:11:28.160,0:11:32.160
of caring for another living animal
0:11:30.240,0:11:34.079
another living being
0:11:32.160,0:11:35.440
uh and it was a growing experience for
0:11:34.079,0:11:37.120
you
0:11:35.440,0:11:43.200
you want to let her out because she’s
0:11:37.120,0:11:44.959
just sounding pitiful at this point
0:11:43.200,0:11:47.440
so we were going to save her for the
0:11:44.959,0:11:49.519
finality of the show but apparently uh
0:11:47.440,0:11:50.560
she’s too much of a star and doesn’t
0:11:49.519,0:11:56.320
want to wait for
0:11:50.560,0:11:59.680
her her chance on the stage here
0:11:56.320,0:12:04.399
so for your viewing pleasure
0:11:59.680,0:12:04.399
we present to you pumpkin
0:12:04.639,0:12:08.160
the impatient cat
0:12:09.040,0:12:14.880
yep so okay well she’s gonna roam around
0:12:12.160,0:12:16.720
that’s fine let her roam she’s gonna
0:12:14.880,0:12:18.720
roam around she’s not explored the
0:12:16.720,0:12:20.959
studio yet
0:12:18.720,0:12:22.839
um so she’s gonna she of course the
0:12:20.959,0:12:26.320
first thing she does is jump
0:12:22.839,0:12:30.079
oh no jump out of
0:12:26.320,0:12:31.839
the camera view which is going to make
0:12:30.079,0:12:33.120
let’s let’s go to this camera here at
0:12:31.839,0:12:35.839
least there we can see her
0:12:33.120,0:12:37.360
yeah so anyway let’s get back to the
0:12:35.839,0:12:38.160
show here now that we’ve been rudely
0:12:37.360,0:12:40.240
interrupted
0:12:38.160,0:12:42.079
yep i guess she knew it was her show
0:12:40.240,0:12:44.079
anyway
0:12:42.079,0:12:45.839
uh so where we leave all so we wanted to
0:12:44.079,0:12:48.240
learn responsibility
0:12:45.839,0:12:49.680
um and there was the advantage of the
0:12:48.240,0:12:51.120
timing right because you guys you and
0:12:49.680,0:12:53.279
mommy are home right now you’re
0:12:51.120,0:12:56.000
homeschooling and mommy is
0:12:53.279,0:12:58.000
working from home so we knew you guys
0:12:56.000,0:13:00.560
would have plenty of time
0:12:58.000,0:13:01.680
to to spend time with her and bond with
0:13:00.560,0:13:05.839
her and
0:13:01.680,0:13:07.279
give her the attention that she needed
0:13:05.839,0:13:10.240
and the other thing is we wanted to do
0:13:07.279,0:13:13.839
our part oh look she does not like me
0:13:10.240,0:13:15.360
and and we’ll get into that later um
0:13:13.839,0:13:17.519
yeah we wanted to do our part as
0:13:15.360,0:13:19.839
responsible pet owners to
0:13:17.519,0:13:20.720
to try and help out the pet community
0:13:19.839,0:13:23.360
and
0:13:20.720,0:13:23.839
and care for a rescue cat which she is
0:13:23.360,0:13:25.279
she was
0:13:23.839,0:13:27.200
she was a rescue cat we’ll talk about
0:13:25.279,0:13:30.880
where we got her from
0:13:27.200,0:13:33.839
a little bit later but um
0:13:30.880,0:13:35.200
anything else you want to add to why we
0:13:33.839,0:13:38.000
got
0:13:35.200,0:13:38.880
a new kitten well i think we kind of got
0:13:38.000,0:13:42.399
everything down
0:13:38.880,0:13:45.040
so far um i mean
0:13:42.399,0:13:46.079
yeah we wanted to get a new kenton
0:13:45.040,0:13:48.959
because
0:13:46.079,0:13:51.199
now we had plenty of time and of course
0:13:48.959,0:13:54.639
you know to teach me responsibility
0:13:51.199,0:13:57.040
so yeah so shall we take a break and
0:13:54.639,0:14:00.320
come back and we will talk about
0:13:57.040,0:14:03.839
uh where we got her and how we got her
0:14:00.320,0:14:03.839
all righty all right

0:15:12.320,0:15:16.560
so we are back talking about our new
0:15:15.279,0:15:20.160
kitten this week
0:15:16.560,0:15:23.680
uh pumpkin um pumpkin uh
0:15:20.160,0:15:25.680
just made a brief appearance here
0:15:23.680,0:15:27.600
she had to excuse herself for a moment
0:15:25.680,0:15:30.880
to
0:15:27.600,0:15:32.720
powder her nose we’ll say
0:15:30.880,0:15:34.079
with luck she’ll be back later in the
0:15:32.720,0:15:37.279
show
0:15:34.079,0:15:40.639
so i wanted to talk about where
0:15:37.279,0:15:44.399
we um where we got
0:15:40.639,0:15:46.399
pumpkin so why don’t you tell us
0:15:44.399,0:15:48.959
where we got pumpkin because i also have
0:15:46.399,0:15:50.480
their website up here that i want to uh
0:15:48.959,0:15:53.040
i want to highlight as well where do we
0:15:50.480,0:15:57.279
get pumpkin well we adopted her
0:15:53.040,0:16:00.480
from a shelter called homeward bound
0:15:57.279,0:16:03.680
um it was formerly known as
0:16:00.480,0:16:05.600
a camden country animal shelter camden
0:16:03.680,0:16:07.440
county animals camden county animal
0:16:05.600,0:16:12.320
shelter yeah sorry
0:16:07.440,0:16:12.320
um and we actually went to the website
0:16:13.360,0:16:21.759
um no we just locked up is what we did
0:16:17.920,0:16:22.639
oh well apparently i can’t get the
0:16:21.759,0:16:25.839
website up
0:16:22.639,0:16:27.600
on the screen so technical difficulties
0:16:25.839,0:16:29.839
there
0:16:27.600,0:16:31.519
um you’ll have to trust us when we say
0:16:29.839,0:16:34.639
they have a website
0:16:31.519,0:16:37.279
yeah uh how about you link the website
0:16:34.639,0:16:38.720
we will link the website in the show
0:16:37.279,0:16:40.959
notes
0:16:38.720,0:16:44.160
uh and we’ll also list it up on our
0:16:40.959,0:16:44.160
website the website is uh
0:16:44.440,0:16:48.880
onwardboundnj.org
0:16:46.560,0:16:50.240
and they do more than just uh cats right
0:16:48.880,0:16:50.720
you can see it in the background on the
0:16:50.240,0:16:52.720
screen
0:16:50.720,0:16:54.480
here unfortunately it’s it’s kind of far
0:16:52.720,0:16:58.320
away but
0:16:54.480,0:17:02.000
so they partner with um
0:16:58.320,0:17:05.199
foster families and with uh
0:17:02.000,0:17:08.240
pet um pet stores
0:17:05.199,0:17:10.720
in the area so when you go to
0:17:08.240,0:17:12.319
their website to look for adoptions
0:17:10.720,0:17:12.720
you’ll see some of the adoptions are at
0:17:12.319,0:17:15.280
their
0:17:12.720,0:17:16.240
facilities themselves some of them may
0:17:15.280,0:17:18.799
be at
0:17:16.240,0:17:20.640
a local petsmart somebody may be in
0:17:18.799,0:17:25.039
foster care
0:17:20.640,0:17:28.480
so when we went to adopt when we adopted
0:17:25.039,0:17:32.559
um pumpkin how did we get
0:17:28.480,0:17:36.080
pumpkin um well she was fostered by
0:17:32.559,0:17:39.200
a few women um the main one was a
0:17:36.080,0:17:40.160
woman named lindsay um her and a group
0:17:39.200,0:17:42.799
of friends
0:17:40.160,0:17:43.200
helped to rescue foster kittens and cats
0:17:42.799,0:17:45.520
um
0:17:43.200,0:17:47.600
and pumpkin was one of them right so
0:17:45.520,0:17:51.440
they don’t actually hold on to the
0:17:47.600,0:17:54.799
animals themselves they’ll they’ll take
0:17:51.440,0:17:57.120
animals in who are
0:17:54.799,0:17:57.919
older cats who have been surrendered
0:17:57.120,0:18:00.240
they’ll take in
0:17:57.919,0:18:02.080
new kittens when people can’t handle the
0:18:00.240,0:18:03.600
kittens and so forth
0:18:02.080,0:18:05.360
and they’ll care for them and give them
0:18:03.600,0:18:09.039
a loving home until they can find
0:18:05.360,0:18:12.080
a more permanent location for them
0:18:09.039,0:18:13.600
so as you said lindsay and a group of
0:18:12.080,0:18:15.520
her friends have been doing this for
0:18:13.600,0:18:18.880
quite some time now
0:18:15.520,0:18:20.400
so when you and mommy went to meet a
0:18:18.880,0:18:23.360
kitten
0:18:20.400,0:18:25.120
um you went to lindsay’s house where the
0:18:23.360,0:18:28.240
cats were
0:18:25.120,0:18:29.919
so what let’s talk about what the
0:18:28.240,0:18:31.760
adoption requirements
0:18:29.919,0:18:33.600
themselves are so if somebody else wants
0:18:31.760,0:18:34.880
to go out and adopt a kitten what do
0:18:33.600,0:18:37.360
they have to do
0:18:34.880,0:18:38.640
well in this case mommy had to fill out
0:18:37.360,0:18:42.320
a brief questionnaire
0:18:38.640,0:18:45.600
and do an interview um
0:18:42.320,0:18:48.480
in order to get a kitten and you needed
0:18:45.600,0:18:51.520
to ensure that you were good parents
0:18:48.480,0:18:52.720
um i’m assuming that you would be it
0:18:51.520,0:18:55.760
would be like
0:18:52.720,0:18:57.280
for a good home right so i think what
0:18:55.760,0:18:58.880
they were asking they were asking some
0:18:57.280,0:18:59.919
basic questions of whether you knew how
0:18:58.880,0:19:02.559
to care for
0:18:59.919,0:19:05.120
cats what your home environment’s like
0:19:02.559,0:19:09.280
what your history with cats was
0:19:05.120,0:19:11.520
and since mommy has been a cat owner for
0:19:09.280,0:19:12.799
well since she was probably your age or
0:19:11.520,0:19:14.640
younger
0:19:12.799,0:19:16.960
i think she probably passed that
0:19:14.640,0:19:18.400
interview with flying colors and
0:19:16.960,0:19:20.240
the good thing about the interview is
0:19:18.400,0:19:22.840
that they want to make sure that
0:19:20.240,0:19:25.360
the person that adopts the cat
0:19:22.840,0:19:26.799
permanently is qualified to care for
0:19:25.360,0:19:28.480
them and that the cats are going to go
0:19:26.799,0:19:30.160
to a good home
0:19:28.480,0:19:31.760
they’re not just letting anybody come in
0:19:30.160,0:19:35.600
here and take these cats
0:19:31.760,0:19:37.760
yeah so um
0:19:35.600,0:19:39.520
when did you go to actually meet the
0:19:37.760,0:19:42.559
cats well we went to go
0:19:39.520,0:19:46.240
and meet the cats um at their house
0:19:42.559,0:19:49.600
on november 18th and describe for us
0:19:46.240,0:19:50.720
what that experience was like um it was
0:19:49.600,0:19:54.080
kind of
0:19:50.720,0:19:56.799
crazy because they had i think
0:19:54.080,0:19:57.200
they had like plenty of cats i think
0:19:56.799,0:19:59.039
like
0:19:57.200,0:20:00.960
when i asked them how many they fostered
0:19:59.039,0:20:04.480
they said at least 24.
0:20:00.960,0:20:06.320
wow gotta be honest that’s a
0:20:04.480,0:20:08.000
pretty big number of cats they were
0:20:06.320,0:20:10.799
basically crazy cat ladies
0:20:08.000,0:20:12.720
all at once or i think all at once
0:20:10.799,0:20:13.280
because there were like plenty of cats
0:20:12.720,0:20:15.440
around
0:20:13.280,0:20:16.880
wow like when we first stepped in there
0:20:15.440,0:20:20.000
was a cat meowing
0:20:16.880,0:20:22.320
like okay and um lindsay who
0:20:20.000,0:20:24.559
was with us at the time um had to get
0:20:22.320,0:20:27.600
the cat to back up
0:20:24.559,0:20:32.080
that’s funny yep so was there a
0:20:27.600,0:20:34.080
cost to adoption yeah uh the cost
0:20:32.080,0:20:35.679
um for what we had today was a hundred
0:20:34.080,0:20:38.880
and fifty dollars
0:20:35.679,0:20:42.799
um because pumpkin was so young um
0:20:38.880,0:20:44.720
she cost she um kind of costed less
0:20:42.799,0:20:46.880
and the cost of adoption would vary by
0:20:44.720,0:20:49.440
age so the older the cat
0:20:46.880,0:20:50.080
the lower the cost of adoption i don’t
0:20:49.440,0:20:53.679
know if
0:20:50.080,0:20:56.480
i think it was higher no no
0:20:53.679,0:20:58.159
the cost is lower and it’s because when
0:20:56.480,0:21:00.640
when we adopted her
0:20:58.159,0:21:02.320
she had just had she’s just been fixed
0:21:00.640,0:21:05.840
she’d just been spayed
0:21:02.320,0:21:08.720
and she had gotten her first round of um
0:21:05.840,0:21:10.559
shots as well yeah so the cost for the
0:21:08.720,0:21:13.360
younger cats is higher because of the
0:21:10.559,0:21:14.960
medical expenses of the younger cats
0:21:13.360,0:21:16.640
the older cats have already gone through
0:21:14.960,0:21:18.799
all that so the cost you don’t have to
0:21:16.640,0:21:21.919
pay for that cost basically we’re
0:21:18.799,0:21:24.720
we’re reimbursing the shelter or
0:21:21.919,0:21:27.280
the foster parent for the care that they
0:21:24.720,0:21:30.320
already gave the cats
0:21:27.280,0:21:32.320
so the cost does go lower with the older
0:21:30.320,0:21:36.799
cats
0:21:32.320,0:21:39.679
um she had a bit of a cold
0:21:36.799,0:21:40.480
so kind of funny seeing a cat sneeze and
0:21:39.679,0:21:42.559
sniffle
0:21:40.480,0:21:44.400
yeah but they were nice enough to give
0:21:42.559,0:21:47.120
us some antibiotics with
0:21:44.400,0:21:48.720
her as well and uh so is she getting
0:21:47.120,0:21:50.640
better she getting over her cold
0:21:48.720,0:21:52.080
yeah she definitely isn’t sneezing as
0:21:50.640,0:21:54.000
much as she was before
0:21:52.080,0:21:55.360
so she’s definitely gotten better that’s
0:21:54.000,0:21:57.600
good
0:21:55.360,0:21:59.039
so let’s talk about when you went to
0:21:57.600,0:22:02.080
pick up
0:21:59.039,0:22:05.360
pumpkin was pumpkin your first choice um
0:22:02.080,0:22:09.039
no actually um originally we meant
0:22:05.360,0:22:11.200
to see a different kitten for adoption
0:22:09.039,0:22:12.799
who did you originally go to see um it
0:22:11.200,0:22:14.799
was a
0:22:12.799,0:22:17.600
it was a mostly white but had a few
0:22:14.799,0:22:19.919
black spots cat whose name was munchkin
0:22:17.600,0:22:22.080
we kind of thought it was cute because
0:22:19.919,0:22:22.799
my nickname is munchkin you guys call me
0:22:22.080,0:22:26.720
munchkins
0:22:22.799,0:22:28.559
yes we do um so we originally went to go
0:22:26.720,0:22:30.720
to munchkin and we also
0:22:28.559,0:22:33.280
um saw a cute cat named latte who was a
0:22:30.720,0:22:34.960
black cat so we also went to see her
0:22:33.280,0:22:37.600
they had multiple kittens so we were
0:22:34.960,0:22:40.480
able to choose okay
0:22:37.600,0:22:41.200
so pumpkin wasn’t pumpkin when you met
0:22:40.480,0:22:44.559
her was she
0:22:41.200,0:22:48.480
nope her original name was holly okay
0:22:44.559,0:22:53.039
so what prompted the name change um
0:22:48.480,0:22:56.799
well i mean not to say that holly was
0:22:53.039,0:22:58.880
was a bad name but you guys named your
0:22:56.799,0:23:01.760
cats after interesting things like
0:22:58.880,0:23:03.360
for you for dorothy she was named after
0:23:01.760,0:23:05.039
darth vader and her full name was
0:23:03.360,0:23:07.120
dorothy vader
0:23:05.039,0:23:10.320
mommy likes the haunted mansion and she
0:23:07.120,0:23:13.760
named leota after madame leota
0:23:10.320,0:23:17.360
so um and holly didn’t really fit with
0:23:13.760,0:23:18.080
like with any of the things that i
0:23:17.360,0:23:21.120
really
0:23:18.080,0:23:22.880
um kind of went with so i wanted to name
0:23:21.120,0:23:23.919
her after something that i kind of liked
0:23:22.880,0:23:27.039
or related to
0:23:23.919,0:23:29.679
so you like pumpkins well
0:23:27.039,0:23:32.159
it was a cute name the main reason i
0:23:29.679,0:23:33.840
named her pumpkin was because
0:23:32.159,0:23:35.440
well i actually had a bunch of food
0:23:33.840,0:23:38.400
names for her because
0:23:35.440,0:23:41.120
she looks like food like her fur colors
0:23:38.400,0:23:42.960
were all different colors of food and
0:23:41.120,0:23:45.200
i kind of wanted to name her after that
0:23:42.960,0:23:45.919
and pumpkin ended up being a really cute
0:23:45.200,0:23:48.240
food name
0:23:45.919,0:23:50.400
although it doesn’t fully relate to her
0:23:48.240,0:23:53.120
but i mean i like fall
0:23:50.400,0:23:54.720
okay i think it works yeah so she wasn’t
0:23:53.120,0:23:57.279
who you went to go
0:23:54.720,0:23:58.240
see how did she wind up being your
0:23:57.279,0:24:01.279
choice
0:23:58.240,0:24:02.159
well i got to hold um four different
0:24:01.279,0:24:05.360
kittens
0:24:02.159,0:24:09.520
um and pumpkin was one of them
0:24:05.360,0:24:12.000
and i decided to and i chose her because
0:24:09.520,0:24:14.320
she was the only kitten that i held
0:24:12.000,0:24:15.039
that ended up purring while i was
0:24:14.320,0:24:18.240
holding her
0:24:15.039,0:24:18.960
that’s an important factor um and
0:24:18.240,0:24:21.039
pumpkin was
0:24:18.960,0:24:23.039
pretty calm and quiet while i held her
0:24:21.039,0:24:24.640
while some of the others took a little
0:24:23.039,0:24:26.559
time to get used to me
0:24:24.640,0:24:28.880
um and she ended up falling asleep after
0:24:26.559,0:24:30.559
a little while in my arms which
0:24:28.880,0:24:33.200
so you picked her because she found you
0:24:30.559,0:24:36.159
boring and fell asleep in your arms
0:24:33.200,0:24:38.000
sure also like i said i liked the
0:24:36.159,0:24:40.799
variety of colors in their fur
0:24:38.000,0:24:42.159
um they reminded me of a lot of food and
0:24:40.799,0:24:43.279
all of the other cats were really
0:24:42.159,0:24:45.120
adorable pumpkin
0:24:43.279,0:24:46.640
was the only one who had like a bunch of
0:24:45.120,0:24:48.799
different colors so
0:24:46.640,0:24:50.480
i kind of wanted to go with her for that
0:24:48.799,0:24:53.520
interesting she does have a very
0:24:50.480,0:24:54.720
interesting assortment of colors and
0:24:53.520,0:24:56.880
we’ll talk about that
0:24:54.720,0:24:58.480
a little bit more when we when we talk
0:24:56.880,0:25:01.200
about her if she i don’t know if she’s
0:24:58.480,0:25:04.320
gonna make another appearance or not
0:25:01.200,0:25:06.559
but um that’s cool that’s cool so
0:25:04.320,0:25:08.159
so the whole adoption experience
0:25:06.559,0:25:10.159
describe how you would
0:25:08.159,0:25:12.400
how you would rate that it was it a good
0:25:10.159,0:25:13.360
experience was it overwhelming was it
0:25:12.400,0:25:15.440
scary
0:25:13.360,0:25:17.919
i mean i’d say it was a good experience
0:25:15.440,0:25:20.480
you had a few different options
0:25:17.919,0:25:21.200
and you got and you got to hold the cat
0:25:20.480,0:25:23.360
and
0:25:21.200,0:25:25.600
get to know the cat a little more to see
0:25:23.360,0:25:26.960
and overall it was a very charming
0:25:25.600,0:25:29.520
experience
0:25:26.960,0:25:30.320
so if you had to do it again would you
0:25:29.520,0:25:33.360
get a cat
0:25:30.320,0:25:33.679
from another rescue organization like
0:25:33.360,0:25:35.679
this
0:25:33.679,0:25:37.760
would you go to a pet store would you go
0:25:35.679,0:25:41.360
to a breeder
0:25:37.760,0:25:42.000
is the rescue option number one on your
0:25:41.360,0:25:45.760
choice
0:25:42.000,0:25:48.400
probably um it’s probably like
0:25:45.760,0:25:50.159
that a calmer version because adopting
0:25:48.400,0:25:53.600
from a pet store
0:25:50.159,0:25:56.960
i’m not entirely um for
0:25:53.600,0:25:59.039
um breeders
0:25:56.960,0:26:00.000
yeah we’re not really into purebred cats
0:25:59.039,0:26:01.679
or anything like that
0:26:00.000,0:26:03.840
we’re not we don’t show them or do
0:26:01.679,0:26:06.880
anything like that no
0:26:03.840,0:26:10.000
um and i definitely would like to
0:26:06.880,0:26:11.600
save cats that um were rescued so and
0:26:10.000,0:26:14.880
give them a good home
0:26:11.600,0:26:16.880
um i think it’s a much nicer um
0:26:14.880,0:26:18.480
thing to do rather than just get a
0:26:16.880,0:26:20.799
purebred cat
0:26:18.480,0:26:22.320
i agree i think what we did was
0:26:20.799,0:26:26.000
definitely the right thing
0:26:22.320,0:26:30.320
to do there are a lot of cats out there
0:26:26.000,0:26:33.919
who are wonderful loving animals who
0:26:30.320,0:26:36.480
don’t have uh aren’t lucky enough to
0:26:33.919,0:26:38.960
have a home with loving folks like us
0:26:36.480,0:26:39.600
and like lindsay and her friends so
0:26:38.960,0:26:42.559
anytime
0:26:39.600,0:26:44.080
you can adopt from a shelter environment
0:26:42.559,0:26:47.200
or shelter group like that
0:26:44.080,0:26:50.400
that’s probably the best way to go
0:26:47.200,0:26:51.440
so let’s take a quick break we will come
0:26:50.400,0:26:54.320
back
0:26:51.440,0:26:57.120
and we’ll talk about a little bit about

episode 90 we’re talking about how
0:28:23.679,0:28:27.840
pumpkin spices up the family so pumpkin
0:28:27.200,0:28:30.720
is our
0:28:27.840,0:28:32.240
new kitten uh we managed to coax her out
0:28:30.720,0:28:33.200
of her dressing room for another
0:28:32.240,0:28:36.320
appearance we’ll
0:28:33.200,0:28:38.399
we’ll have her out and about shortly
0:28:36.320,0:28:40.559
but let’s talk a little bit about her
0:28:38.399,0:28:43.120
background where was she found
0:28:40.559,0:28:44.080
um she was found in sicklerville new
0:28:43.120,0:28:47.760
jersey
0:28:44.080,0:28:50.480
in the second in the signer sicklerville
0:28:47.760,0:28:52.399
sicklerville new jersey area along with
0:28:50.480,0:28:54.480
her mother and sister
0:28:52.399,0:28:57.120
um her original name was holly and she
0:28:54.480,0:29:00.240
was born in the middle of july of 2020.
0:28:57.120,0:29:00.720
so she’s a young cat what four months
0:29:00.240,0:29:03.760
now
0:29:00.720,0:29:06.960
about about four months um
0:29:03.760,0:29:08.480
so what kind of cat is she um she is a
0:29:06.960,0:29:12.559
domestic short hair mix
0:29:08.480,0:29:15.120
of a grit of gray orange and
0:29:12.559,0:29:16.720
torby toybe i have no idea what torby is
0:29:15.120,0:29:18.399
mommy told me to write it down though
0:29:16.720,0:29:20.159
don’t know what that color is i don’t
0:29:18.399,0:29:23.200
either how much does she weigh
0:29:20.159,0:29:24.799
she was 3.5 pounds when we got her i
0:29:23.200,0:29:26.320
don’t think she’s put that much more on
0:29:24.799,0:29:29.200
because she’s still very tiny
0:29:26.320,0:29:30.159
yup a tiny kitty and we’ve only had her
0:29:29.200,0:29:33.520
for
0:29:30.159,0:29:36.080
two weeks now yeah about that so what
0:29:33.520,0:29:38.399
are some of the things that she enjoys
0:29:36.080,0:29:40.240
um some of the things that she enjoys
0:29:38.399,0:29:42.480
that i found out um
0:29:40.240,0:29:43.760
she likes watching youtube and tv i
0:29:42.480,0:29:46.480
found that like
0:29:43.760,0:29:48.080
anything on a screen that moves she will
0:29:46.480,0:29:51.600
immediately be interested in
0:29:48.080,0:29:54.399
which explains why she bonded with you
0:29:51.600,0:29:55.279
yeah um she also likes playing with her
0:29:54.399,0:29:58.159
cat toys
0:29:55.279,0:29:59.360
um getting her we got her multiple
0:29:58.159,0:30:01.600
different cat toys
0:29:59.360,0:30:02.799
we got her these two little line things
0:30:01.600,0:30:04.799
with little
0:30:02.799,0:30:06.000
uh bells at the bottom of them that she
0:30:04.799,0:30:08.799
plays with
0:30:06.000,0:30:09.840
um and we also have a tunnel that we
0:30:08.799,0:30:13.279
need to like
0:30:09.840,0:30:14.720
um see how she reacts and we also have
0:30:13.279,0:30:18.320
some of the other ones that we have
0:30:14.720,0:30:21.360
like um a cat fishing rod yeah that one
0:30:18.320,0:30:24.159
that one’s funny i like that one um
0:30:21.360,0:30:25.760
she also likes playing with chasing the
0:30:24.159,0:30:28.159
laser pointer now
0:30:25.760,0:30:30.159
our other cats they used to like um
0:30:28.159,0:30:31.360
chasing the laser pointer dorothy still
0:30:30.159,0:30:34.640
kind of does
0:30:31.360,0:30:37.679
but um before they but now they really
0:30:34.640,0:30:40.720
don’t chase it as much but with pumpkin
0:30:37.679,0:30:41.360
she will chase that thing around the
0:30:40.720,0:30:43.360
room
0:30:41.360,0:30:45.520
um she loves playing with the ladies she
0:30:43.360,0:30:47.360
goes crazy she goes up the wall she goes
0:30:45.520,0:30:49.279
spinner you can stir the cat with the
0:30:47.360,0:30:53.039
laser pointer yeah
0:30:49.279,0:30:53.600
it’s really funny um uh we also found
0:30:53.039,0:30:57.600
out
0:30:53.600,0:31:00.159
uh during lunch yesterday that she
0:30:57.600,0:31:01.440
oh no all right well she’s gonna have to
0:31:00.159,0:31:05.039
wait this time
0:31:01.440,0:31:05.760
yeah um that she enjoys roast beef and
0:31:05.039,0:31:07.679
steak
0:31:05.760,0:31:09.440
um and cheese steak because you were
0:31:07.679,0:31:10.240
having a cheese steak mommy was having a
0:31:09.440,0:31:12.559
sandwich
0:31:10.240,0:31:13.919
with roast beef and she was at the table
0:31:12.559,0:31:16.960
in her little carriage
0:31:13.919,0:31:18.159
um and we decided to give her some meat
0:31:16.960,0:31:22.000
and she really enjoyed
0:31:18.159,0:31:24.240
it cool yeah she was eating some of my
0:31:22.000,0:31:25.760
steak mommy had a roast beef sub and uh
0:31:24.240,0:31:27.760
she was going to town on that roast beef
0:31:25.760,0:31:30.480
that’s for sure yeah she
0:31:27.760,0:31:32.159
really likes roast beef so um that’s one
0:31:30.480,0:31:35.519
thing we know about pumpkin now
0:31:32.159,0:31:39.600
awesome um we also know that she
0:31:35.519,0:31:42.240
well unlike today um she was
0:31:39.600,0:31:44.240
unlike now um she was really quiet but
0:31:42.240,0:31:47.840
she does purr when you pet her
0:31:44.240,0:31:50.799
um and very few times she would meow but
0:31:47.840,0:31:51.440
um i guess being in here she for some
0:31:50.799,0:31:54.240
reason
0:31:51.440,0:31:55.039
meows much more well she’s a star she
0:31:54.240,0:31:57.519
knows she’s
0:31:55.039,0:31:59.200
you know it’s a podcast and she knows
0:31:57.519,0:32:00.799
that you need to talk on the podcast you
0:31:59.200,0:32:02.480
can’t have dead air and
0:32:00.799,0:32:05.039
she’s just trying to do her part that’s
0:32:02.480,0:32:07.360
all sure
0:32:05.039,0:32:09.279
um she also has a pretty distinctive
0:32:07.360,0:32:11.760
white spot on her nose and
0:32:09.279,0:32:13.519
should i show her off for this well not
0:32:11.760,0:32:14.799
yet i think we’ll probably best see that
0:32:13.519,0:32:16.480
with the pictures because i don’t think
0:32:14.799,0:32:18.640
she’s gonna sit still right now
0:32:16.480,0:32:19.840
yeah um she has this cute little white
0:32:18.640,0:32:22.240
spot on her nose
0:32:19.840,0:32:23.600
that um the keeper said it looks like
0:32:22.240,0:32:26.559
someone like
0:32:23.600,0:32:28.640
um used markers and painted over her
0:32:26.559,0:32:30.720
nose and it’s honestly a really cute
0:32:28.640,0:32:32.720
little thing and she’s also got the
0:32:30.720,0:32:34.159
white paw so it looks like she’s very
0:32:32.720,0:32:36.960
proper with white gloves on
0:32:34.159,0:32:37.760
yeah white boots yeah i think it’s
0:32:36.960,0:32:41.279
adorable
0:32:37.760,0:32:42.399
um she also loves being held unlike some
0:32:41.279,0:32:45.120
of our other cats
0:32:42.399,0:32:46.399
oh boy does she it’s almost to the point
0:32:45.120,0:32:47.279
like my concern is she’s not going to
0:32:46.399,0:32:50.320
learn how to walk
0:32:47.279,0:32:52.000
right now that
0:32:50.320,0:32:54.159
i’m also kind of concerned about that as
0:32:52.000,0:32:55.120
well um she’s definitely affectionate
0:32:54.159,0:32:59.360
with that though
0:32:55.120,0:33:02.240
yep um unlike our other cats leota
0:32:59.360,0:33:03.679
mommy’s only picked her up like twice
0:33:02.240,0:33:06.559
and it was only recent
0:33:03.679,0:33:07.760
right like she does not like being held
0:33:06.559,0:33:10.399
whatsoever
0:33:07.760,0:33:12.159
no she leota is affectionate on her
0:33:10.399,0:33:15.360
terms and her terms only
0:33:12.159,0:33:15.679
yeah um dorothy’s slightly more lenient
0:33:15.360,0:33:17.440
but
0:33:15.679,0:33:18.960
still doesn’t normally like it when i
0:33:17.440,0:33:21.519
pick her up she’ll
0:33:18.960,0:33:22.720
gladly let you she let’s yeah she will
0:33:21.519,0:33:25.840
let me hold her
0:33:22.720,0:33:26.240
all day long if if i was inclined to do
0:33:25.840,0:33:29.519
so
0:33:26.240,0:33:31.120
yeah so she also enjoys walks in her
0:33:29.519,0:33:32.320
petrol now we haven’t taken her outside
0:33:31.120,0:33:33.679
to walk yet but you do bring her
0:33:32.320,0:33:35.679
downstairs when you’re doing your school
0:33:33.679,0:33:37.919
work so she can spend time with you
0:33:35.679,0:33:39.600
yep and we should be able to get kind of
0:33:37.919,0:33:40.960
a shot once you back the stroller up a
0:33:39.600,0:33:42.399
little bit so we can get it into the
0:33:40.960,0:33:45.039
camera there
0:33:42.399,0:33:46.159
so this stroller actually was one that i
0:33:45.039,0:33:49.840
had bought
0:33:46.159,0:33:54.159
for dorian when she was
0:33:49.840,0:33:57.600
um starting to not feel so well
0:33:54.159,0:34:00.640
uh dorian was very much an outdoor cat
0:33:57.600,0:34:02.640
and she had some health issues we
0:34:00.640,0:34:03.679
think she had a stroke at some point in
0:34:02.640,0:34:07.120
time
0:34:03.679,0:34:09.359
uh she wound up losing her sight and
0:34:07.120,0:34:10.879
she continued to want to go outside but
0:34:09.359,0:34:12.079
mommy was a little cautious with her
0:34:10.879,0:34:13.280
didn’t want to go outside because she
0:34:12.079,0:34:15.040
didn’t want to get run over or anything
0:34:13.280,0:34:16.320
like that
0:34:15.040,0:34:18.240
but we didn’t want to keep her in the
0:34:16.320,0:34:19.760
house all the time so we’d put her in
0:34:18.240,0:34:20.960
the stroller and we’d walk up and down
0:34:19.760,0:34:23.520
the street with her and she
0:34:20.960,0:34:25.599
loved being in the stroller it was her
0:34:23.520,0:34:26.000
time for fresh air and everything and
0:34:25.599,0:34:28.480
she
0:34:26.000,0:34:29.679
i think she really enjoyed it yeah and
0:34:28.480,0:34:33.359
it’s come in handy
0:34:29.679,0:34:37.040
with uh pumpkin
0:34:33.359,0:34:40.159
as sort of a mobile jail for her now
0:34:37.040,0:34:42.159
because we didn’t we’re still trying to
0:34:40.159,0:34:43.359
slowly get her acclimated to the rest of
0:34:42.159,0:34:44.720
the house here
0:34:43.359,0:34:46.720
so we don’t want to just let her run
0:34:44.720,0:34:48.240
ragged with the other cats we want to
0:34:46.720,0:34:49.679
kind of keep her in a protected state
0:34:48.240,0:34:52.800
and start to introduce things
0:34:49.679,0:34:54.240
slowly to her yeah so
0:34:52.800,0:34:55.839
tell us how she is at night because
0:34:54.240,0:34:57.440
she’s the one she’s sleeping in your
0:34:55.839,0:35:00.720
room now right
0:34:57.440,0:35:02.640
so how is she at night uh very active
0:35:00.720,0:35:04.240
um at first she was really tired
0:35:02.640,0:35:06.480
probably because of the long day
0:35:04.240,0:35:08.000
but um now that she’s gotten more used
0:35:06.480,0:35:11.040
to the house she’s
0:35:08.000,0:35:13.760
very active and i must say very
0:35:11.040,0:35:14.880
noisy welcome to the wonderful life of
0:35:13.760,0:35:18.000
pet ownership
0:35:14.880,0:35:20.960
yeah um one night actually um
0:35:18.000,0:35:21.520
i was sleeping and she was for some
0:35:20.960,0:35:24.800
reason
0:35:21.520,0:35:26.960
sniffing my eyelids and like was keeping
0:35:24.800,0:35:28.079
me awake i had to push her because she
0:35:26.960,0:35:30.079
was like
0:35:28.079,0:35:32.480
oh my god your eyelids smell amazing i
0:35:30.079,0:35:34.240
had to push her away like okay pumpkin
0:35:32.480,0:35:37.760
enough get off of me
0:35:34.240,0:35:40.720
nice um so yeah nice
0:35:37.760,0:35:42.640
so when she’s not sniffing your eyelids
0:35:40.720,0:35:44.400
and not in the stroller where does she
0:35:42.640,0:35:46.880
spend most of her time
0:35:44.400,0:35:49.520
oh she has her little cat condo in our
0:35:46.880,0:35:52.640
in my room it’s sort of like
0:35:49.520,0:35:54.000
a little cage kind of not a cage it’s
0:35:52.640,0:35:56.400
one of the little pop-up
0:35:54.000,0:35:58.000
little kennels that we got yeah um and
0:35:56.400,0:36:01.760
that’s where her bathroom is
0:35:58.000,0:36:04.240
her food and her um well
0:36:01.760,0:36:05.520
before when she did used to sleep in it
0:36:04.240,0:36:07.920
her little bed
0:36:05.520,0:36:09.359
um now she kind of stays up on my bed
0:36:07.920,0:36:11.599
now because we now
0:36:09.359,0:36:13.200
let her roam free in my room whereas
0:36:11.599,0:36:13.839
before we kind of just kept her in the
0:36:13.200,0:36:16.400
condo
0:36:13.839,0:36:18.720
right so she’s she’s slowly outgrowing
0:36:16.400,0:36:20.320
the need for the cat condo
0:36:18.720,0:36:21.920
and i think probably in a week or so
0:36:20.320,0:36:22.320
she’ll have the full run of the house
0:36:21.920,0:36:24.160
and
0:36:22.320,0:36:25.440
she won’t need it at all unless of
0:36:24.160,0:36:26.720
course she wants it because it’s a
0:36:25.440,0:36:30.560
comfort place for her
0:36:26.720,0:36:31.599
yeah so she also likes to play with your
0:36:30.560,0:36:34.960
ponytail right
0:36:31.599,0:36:39.280
yeah i found out last night while i was
0:36:34.960,0:36:42.160
facing while i was well my bed
0:36:39.280,0:36:43.920
um while i was facing my bed backwards
0:36:42.160,0:36:45.359
she ended up playing with my ponytail
0:36:43.920,0:36:49.200
before i went to sleep
0:36:45.359,0:36:52.720
and i’m like what the oh
0:36:49.200,0:36:53.280
okay i guess my um ponytail’s a string i
0:36:52.720,0:36:55.440
guess
0:36:53.280,0:36:56.560
i guess you know she’s a kitten she does
0:36:55.440,0:37:00.880
what kittens do
0:36:56.560,0:37:00.880
so it’s not unusual yeah
0:37:00.960,0:37:05.359
uh what else did we do oh we played
0:37:03.599,0:37:06.720
dress-up with her you and mommy play
0:37:05.359,0:37:08.960
dress-up we have a picture
0:37:06.720,0:37:09.839
uh in the in the little movie that will
0:37:08.960,0:37:11.599
show
0:37:09.839,0:37:13.280
yeah uh she was pretty good sport about
0:37:11.599,0:37:15.599
that though wasn’t she yeah
0:37:13.280,0:37:16.720
um we could never do that with dorothy
0:37:15.599,0:37:19.520
or leota
0:37:16.720,0:37:21.440
well we did it with dorothy but dorothy
0:37:19.520,0:37:22.160
totally freaks out and plays dead when
0:37:21.440,0:37:24.240
we do it
0:37:22.160,0:37:25.920
yeah and leota you just can’t touch her
0:37:24.240,0:37:29.359
long enough to put anything on her
0:37:25.920,0:37:31.119
yeah so little festive sweater so she
0:37:29.359,0:37:33.920
had a holiday picture
0:37:31.119,0:37:35.920
yeah she didn’t entirely like it but she
0:37:33.920,0:37:36.560
tolerated enough for me to get it on and
0:37:35.920,0:37:39.200
off of her
0:37:36.560,0:37:40.720
right so not only does she love playing
0:37:39.200,0:37:42.400
with your ponytail
0:37:40.720,0:37:44.480
she loves playing with her tail as well
0:37:42.400,0:37:46.160
apparently yeah
0:37:44.480,0:37:47.839
what she do chase it around does she
0:37:46.160,0:37:48.320
does she ever catch it has she caught it
0:37:47.839,0:37:50.720
yet
0:37:48.320,0:37:51.680
sometimes yeah um she chases her own
0:37:50.720,0:37:53.760
tail because
0:37:51.680,0:37:54.800
honestly anything that moves to her is a
0:37:53.760,0:37:56.560
play thing
0:37:54.800,0:37:58.160
now did she know what to do with the
0:37:56.560,0:38:01.440
tail when she finally did catch it
0:37:58.160,0:38:03.440
um she kind of like licks it or
0:38:01.440,0:38:06.160
bites it sometimes when she does catch
0:38:03.440,0:38:08.560
it so nice
0:38:06.160,0:38:09.839
um and she likes listening to music
0:38:08.560,0:38:12.160
right yep
0:38:09.839,0:38:12.880
so is there a particular flavor of music
0:38:12.160,0:38:14.960
she likes
0:38:12.880,0:38:16.960
not really she’ll honestly listen to
0:38:14.960,0:38:19.040
anything if i show it to her
0:38:16.960,0:38:20.079
so she’s very open-minded when it comes
0:38:19.040,0:38:23.599
to her music
0:38:20.079,0:38:26.400
yep good so
0:38:23.599,0:38:28.240
that’s all about her we do have a couple
0:38:26.400,0:38:30.839
of little uh
0:38:28.240,0:38:32.079
interesting tidbits i’ll say little
0:38:30.839,0:38:33.520
factoids
0:38:32.079,0:38:37.200
so how do the other cats in the
0:38:33.520,0:38:37.200
household react to her so far
0:38:38.160,0:38:42.240
that’s a story to tell um the other cats
0:38:41.599,0:38:45.359
are
0:38:42.240,0:38:48.480
pretty reluctant to accept her and are
0:38:45.359,0:38:50.079
to accepting her in the family um a lot
0:38:48.480,0:38:53.119
of hissing going on there huh
0:38:50.079,0:38:56.320
yeah a lot of his again
0:38:53.119,0:38:57.520
that’s from dorothy she does not like
0:38:56.320,0:38:59.920
that
0:38:57.520,0:39:00.560
in fact when we were feeding her the one
0:38:59.920,0:39:03.680
time
0:39:00.560,0:39:07.359
um dorothy like for us from
0:39:03.680,0:39:10.160
the basement and we could see her
0:39:07.359,0:39:11.520
and basically she can pick her up now
0:39:10.160,0:39:13.200
she can she can make her
0:39:11.520,0:39:16.240
her second debut i think she missed her
0:39:13.200,0:39:16.240
cue that’s what it is
0:39:21.599,0:39:26.079
alfred let go don’t let her hurt herself
0:39:23.520,0:39:29.359
there you go
0:39:26.079,0:39:30.800
there you go and there ladies and
0:39:29.359,0:39:34.960
gentlemen
0:39:30.800,0:39:38.160
is pumpkin again again
0:39:34.960,0:39:40.800
so she’s good at
0:39:38.160,0:39:41.359
hiding under beds we had fun with that
0:39:40.800,0:39:44.720
oh
0:39:41.359,0:39:47.520
gosh i had made the mistake of
0:39:44.720,0:39:49.119
uh of taking her for a little walk
0:39:47.520,0:39:50.320
holding her taking her for a walk around
0:39:49.119,0:39:53.280
the house
0:39:50.320,0:39:54.720
and wound up in our bedroom um put her
0:39:53.280,0:39:57.040
down on the bed let her play on the bed
0:39:54.720,0:39:59.280
for a bit and then she jumped down
0:39:57.040,0:40:00.079
went under the bed and it took three of
0:39:59.280,0:40:02.240
us
0:40:00.079,0:40:03.200
and about 15 minutes to get her out from
0:40:02.240,0:40:06.800
under the bed
0:40:03.200,0:40:10.800
yeah so she’s very good at that
0:40:06.800,0:40:13.920
um she loves playing king of the hill
0:40:10.800,0:40:16.400
she you you’ve got this big pile of uh
0:40:13.920,0:40:19.599
stuffed animals in your room on your bed
0:40:16.400,0:40:21.599
again you’ll see that in the video and
0:40:19.599,0:40:24.960
she likes climbing up to the top of that
0:40:21.599,0:40:26.400
yep where she blends in very well
0:40:24.960,0:40:29.920
it’s like playing a game of where’s
0:40:26.400,0:40:33.760
waldo trying to figure out where she is
0:40:29.920,0:40:36.800
um she enjoys her kitten food
0:40:33.760,0:40:38.160
mm-hmm right so does leota yeah so
0:40:36.800,0:40:40.079
there’s a there’s a very good chance
0:40:38.160,0:40:42.880
that her and leota will get along
0:40:40.079,0:40:45.040
well before her and dorothy will yeah
0:40:42.880,0:40:48.319
but she doesn’t like cat treats so
0:40:45.040,0:40:49.040
not yet at least yeah huh you can let
0:40:48.319,0:40:52.400
her go
0:40:49.040,0:40:56.240
okay easy does it um she
0:40:52.400,0:40:58.160
uh our other two cats are are
0:40:56.240,0:40:59.280
like crazy about the cat treats that we
0:40:58.160,0:41:02.400
have well
0:40:59.280,0:41:03.359
leota is crazy dorothy can well leota is
0:41:02.400,0:41:05.359
just
0:41:03.359,0:41:07.760
obsessed like she needs to go to rehab
0:41:05.359,0:41:11.440
but dorothy’s a big fan of him too
0:41:07.760,0:41:11.920
yeah but uh pumpkin doesn’t really
0:41:11.440,0:41:13.599
[ __ ]
0:41:11.920,0:41:15.520
pumpkin does not like that hasn’t had
0:41:13.599,0:41:17.520
any of them yet so maybe when she gets
0:41:15.520,0:41:20.240
older she’ll grow into it
0:41:17.520,0:41:20.880
yeah um pumpkin doesn’t like me very
0:41:20.240,0:41:22.560
much
0:41:20.880,0:41:25.839
as demonstrated by the fact that i put
0:41:22.560,0:41:29.040
my hand down and she cringes away
0:41:25.839,0:41:32.160
right on cue okay
0:41:29.040,0:41:34.240
what else does she like um
0:41:32.160,0:41:36.240
let’s see what else does she like uh she
0:41:34.240,0:41:38.319
loves bella rubs despite the fact that
0:41:36.240,0:41:41.119
she still has stitches from being
0:41:38.319,0:41:42.560
from getting fixed um she definitely
0:41:41.119,0:41:44.640
shows me her belly a lot
0:41:42.560,0:41:46.720
especially when she’s comfortable yeah
0:41:44.640,0:41:48.000
so that is a sign of trust and that’s
0:41:46.720,0:41:50.480
why dorothy does it with me
0:41:48.000,0:41:51.200
a lot you know dorothy loves belly robs
0:41:50.480,0:41:53.359
but uh
0:41:51.200,0:41:55.119
she’s very hesitant to take them from
0:41:53.359,0:41:58.240
from other people too quickly
0:41:55.119,0:42:00.480
yeah um
0:41:58.240,0:42:02.960
what other interesting things is there
0:42:00.480,0:42:04.880
to know about her um she has a major
0:42:02.960,0:42:07.040
elevator but
0:42:04.880,0:42:09.119
what does that mean it means that when
0:42:07.040,0:42:12.160
she’s sitting and you scratch like
0:42:09.119,0:42:14.560
where her tail um starts
0:42:12.160,0:42:16.000
she ends up raising her butt up she does
0:42:14.560,0:42:17.599
and i did it to her the one
0:42:16.000,0:42:19.359
time and she raised it up to the point
0:42:17.599,0:42:22.079
that she was like on her tippy toes
0:42:19.359,0:42:22.640
yeah and like she gets so off balance
0:42:22.079,0:42:26.000
from it
0:42:22.640,0:42:27.200
yeah she does uh she’s not a fan of loud
0:42:26.000,0:42:30.240
noises though
0:42:27.200,0:42:31.920
not too many loud noises i will say
0:42:30.240,0:42:34.079
although she does like music she doesn’t
0:42:31.920,0:42:35.839
like it too loud yeah
0:42:34.079,0:42:37.280
well she’s kind of like you when it
0:42:35.839,0:42:38.160
comes to that you’re not big on loud
0:42:37.280,0:42:40.960
noises either
0:42:38.160,0:42:41.599
yeah but i listen to music at like the
0:42:40.960,0:42:44.000
full
0:42:41.599,0:42:45.839
audio so so what do you think are you
0:42:44.000,0:42:47.920
happy with her so far
0:42:45.839,0:42:49.960
does she meet your expectations what are
0:42:47.920,0:42:51.440
your thoughts she definitely meets my
0:42:49.960,0:42:54.400
expectations
0:42:51.440,0:42:56.720
oh no she’s gonna try and climb up the
0:42:54.400,0:43:00.400
acoustic filtering on the wall
0:42:56.720,0:43:03.000
oh god i wouldn’t do that kitty
0:43:00.400,0:43:04.880
um anyway yes she does meet my
0:43:03.000,0:43:08.800
expectations
0:43:04.880,0:43:12.000
um uh is she a keeper
0:43:08.800,0:43:13.359
we gonna keep her yes oh good
0:43:12.000,0:43:15.520
she’s learning how to do the doorknob
0:43:13.359,0:43:18.800
now that’ll be fun
0:43:15.520,0:43:19.359
so i think that was all we had uh we’ll
0:43:18.800,0:43:23.280
come
0:43:19.359,0:43:24.000
back with uh after a quick break and
0:43:23.280,0:43:28.960
we’ll get
0:43:24.000,0:43:28.960
your closing thoughts and shout outs
0:43:34.560,0:43:41.920
go with your closing thoughts okay so
0:43:38.560,0:43:45.200
to everyone out there um
0:43:41.920,0:43:46.079
so quarantine has been pretty long so
0:43:45.200,0:43:48.319
far and
0:43:46.079,0:43:49.359
has definitely taken a toll on many
0:43:48.319,0:43:52.560
people’s
0:43:49.359,0:43:53.200
mental status um and i wanted to say
0:43:52.560,0:43:55.680
that
0:43:53.200,0:43:56.240
now is a great time to help out shelters
0:43:55.680,0:43:58.960
adopt
0:43:56.240,0:44:01.040
pets many people are already doing that
0:43:58.960,0:44:03.200
and i definitely think it’s
0:44:01.040,0:44:05.359
going to be good not just for the pets
0:44:03.200,0:44:07.839
but for your own sake as well
0:44:05.359,0:44:08.960
okay that’s a very good message there
0:44:07.839,0:44:11.280
yeah and for the
0:44:08.960,0:44:12.400
first time in a while i’m giving a shout
0:44:11.280,0:44:15.440
out to our star
0:44:12.400,0:44:19.440
pumpkin who for some reason
0:44:15.440,0:44:22.560
just like meows she is just exploring
0:44:19.440,0:44:24.480
the studio like crazy today yep
