[SEGMENT 1: Disney Detective] (8-12 minutes)

  • ‘A true gentleman’: 4-year-old tipping his hat to Disney princesses gets love from millions
  • https://www.foxnews.com/lifestyle/boy-greeting-disney-princesses-viral-video
  • https://fxn.ws/3zx6cnY
    • Maybe chivalry is not dead in today’s day and age…at least not for one 4 year old
      • In a recent visit visit to Disney’s Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World young Bernardo Guedert was captured making a gentlemanly gesture to a few of the beloved princesses
      • Vanessa Guedert a resident of Florida recently posted the footage on TikTok
      • In the brief clip the young man is seen from behind watching a parade of characters pass by including Snow White and other princesses, some walking and some riding on floats
      • Before first politely waving the the cavalcade Bernardo then takes his hat off to the ladies
      • Appropriately enough it’s baseball style hat with Mickey ears
      • The princess, in turn respond to this gesture in their own magical way.
      • Some waving, others taking the gesture one step further and curtseying in response
      • The clip had over 30 million views with many of the viewers commenting on how it brought them to tears seeing this 4 year old “true gentlemen”
      • Speaking to Fox News his mother commented “He’s a great kid, very polite, happy. He loves Disney movies such as ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘The Incredibles, ‘Monsters inc.’ but his favorite is Toy Story”
      • Guedert captioned the video “Disney’s true prince!”
  • Florida man used Disney employee iPad to magically skip lines
  • https://www.theverge.com/2021/9/17/22679895/florida-man-hollywood-studios-skips-lines-disney-employee-ipad-app
  • https://bit.ly/3AMcRw9
    • There are books and blogs telling you how to have a magical Disney World experience
      • But one Florida man discovered the ultimate travel hack: using an app that lets you skip lines
      • An app that everyone wants for sure
      • But the catch is, this app was running on a possibly stolen Castmember iPad
    • A local Florida news station reported that 30 year-old Rennan Carletto allegedly did just that in June
      • Using the unauthorized device he was able to  give himself and a group traveling through the park with him a jump to the front of the line.
      • According to the report, Carletto was leading an unauthorized tour in Hollywood Studios using the iPad to skip lines for the park’s rides by making reservation overrides.
        • One Disney World fan site theorizes that he may have been taking advantage of Disney’s system that lets people with disabilities reserve certain times for a ride so they don’t have to wait in line.
      • This would seemingly agree with a quote reported by WDW News Today, which classified the app as “a private app for qualifying guests” that’s only installed on devices owned by Disney World.
    • However Carletto was pulling it off, it seems like it was both easier and better than the confusing FastPass/MaxPass reservation system
      • An antiquated system which is due to be replaced by a new service called Genie Plus which we’ve discussed previously on the podcast
    • As with every travel hack there were a few minor tradeoffs and inconveniences — Carletto ended up having to give the iPad back to a Disney investigator, and was issued a warning by Disney for trespassing.
      • He reportedly told authorities that he didn’t know it was stolen

      • David Tennant takes on the iconic role of Phileas Fogg in the upcoming BBC One adaptation of Jules Verne’s classic novel Around the World in 80 Days

  • Netflix buys Wonka author Roald Dahl’s catalog
  • https://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory/netflix-buys-wonka-author-dahls-catalog-80165257
  • https://abcn.ws/3kuf3Cu
    • Netflix has acquired the works of Roald Dahl, the late British author of celebrated children’s books such as “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”
      • The video streaming giant said Wednesday that it acquired the Roald Dahl Story Co., which manages the rights to the author’s characters and stories.
      • No financial terms were disclosed.
    • The deal builds on a partnership struck in 2018 to create a slate of animated TV series, under which “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” is getting a reboot by Academy Award winning filmmaker Taika Waititi and Netflix is working with Sony on an adaptation of “Matilda the Musical.”
      • The new deal paves the way for Netflix to bring all of the author’s back catalogue to screens.
        • “These projects opened our eyes to a much more ambitious venture – the creation of a unique universe across animated and live action films and TV, publishing, games, immersive experiences, live theatre, consumer products and more,” Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos and Luke Kelly, managing director of the Roald Dahl Story Co. and Dahl’s grandson, said in a joint statement.
    • Dahl died in 1990 at the age of 74 but his books, which also include “The BFG,” “The Twits” and “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” remain popular with young readers, with more than 300 million copies sold worldwide and translations in 63 languages.

    • Netflix
    • Mercury 13
    • https://www.netflix.com/title/80174436
    • https://bit.ly/39tA3mQ
      • Mercury 13 is the untold story of women testing for spaceflight in the 1960s
        • In this Netflix documentary, the tales of 13 female pilots who dreamed of becoming astronauts yet were denied the opportunity by Nasa are finally brought to light
      • When Neil Armstrong stepped on to the surface of the moon, he declared that he had taken “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”
        • What if that one small step had been taken by a woman?
        • What would that have represented, at a time when the American public was just starting to wake up to women’s rights?
        • The new documentary film on Netflix hopes to answer that question.
      • Mercury 13 explores the paths of 13 female pilots who were subjected to many of the same rigorous tests that the all male Mercury 7 were and either passed or exceeded their male counterparts in every one of them
        • Despite their triumphant completion of many invasive tests they were still prevented from entering Nasa’s space training program.
        • This despite the fact that NASA’s direct competition in Russia was moving forward with the first woman in space
      • The film details many of the physiological and psychological testing that these heroic women had to endure.
        • The same testing the men went through and in many cases didn’t fair nearly as well
        • It chronicles their journey in the early 1960’s when the space race heated up with the Russians
        • The documentary details the storied and impressive flying history of all of the woman in the program, talking about how they got into flying and what some of their inspirations were
        • The same doctor who conducted the government funded tests on the male astronauts had to find private funding to fulfill his ambition of proving that women were just as capable because the government refused to fund the research
        • The film also details the legal challenges the woman raised before Congress and culminates with their being honored by NASA at the launching of the first Space Shuttle piloted by a woman.
      • It’s a touching and inspirational story that is indicative of the sad state of affairs our society was in with regards to equal rights for women in the 1960’s
        • While the program shows us how far we’ve come to combat some of these discriminatory behaviors, it also serves to shine a light on the progress yet to be made in the search for equality for everyone regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, religion or identity.
        • It’s programs like this that help me see a brighter tomorrow for our own future female engineer and it’s an inspiration to all young woman that you should never let anyone tell you that you can’t achieve your dreams

0:04:23.919,0:04:29.600
a few of the beloved princesses his

0:04:27.199,0:04:32.560
mother vanessa a resident of florida

0:04:29.600,0:04:35.040
recently posted the footage on tick tock

0:04:32.560,0:04:37.440
in a brief clip the young man is seen

0:04:35.040,0:04:40.320
from behind watching a parade of

0:04:37.440,0:04:42.880
characters pass by including snow white

0:04:40.320,0:04:45.040
and other princesses some of them were

0:04:42.880,0:04:47.360
walking and some of them were riding on

0:04:45.040,0:04:49.680
floats and before

0:04:47.360,0:04:52.800
um

0:04:49.680,0:04:55.919
before first politely waving to by the

0:04:52.800,0:04:58.800
cavalcade bernardo takes his hat and

0:04:55.919,0:05:01.360
tips it off to the ladies appropriately

0:04:58.800,0:05:02.720
enough it’s a baseball style hat with

0:05:01.360,0:05:05.520
mickey ears

0:05:02.720,0:05:08.720
the princesses in turn respond to his

0:05:05.520,0:05:11.199
gesture in their own magical way some of

0:05:08.720,0:05:13.440
them are waving and others take the

0:05:11.199,0:05:15.840
gesture one step further and even

0:05:13.440,0:05:18.320
curtsying in response

0:05:15.840,0:05:20.720
so the clip had over 30 million views

0:05:18.320,0:05:23.440
with many of the viewers commenting on

0:05:20.720,0:05:25.840
how it brought them to tears seeing this

0:05:23.440,0:05:27.759
four-year-old true gentleman

0:05:25.840,0:05:30.400
speaking to fox news his mother

0:05:27.759,0:05:33.360
commented that he’s a great kid

0:05:30.400,0:05:35.440
very polite and happy he loves disney

0:05:33.360,0:05:38.320
movies such as beauty and the beast the

0:05:35.440,0:05:41.520
incredibles monsters inc but his

0:05:38.320,0:05:45.199
favorite is toy story his mom captioned

0:05:41.520,0:05:46.639
the video disney’s true prince

0:05:45.199,0:05:49.039
that’s gotta be the cutest thing i think

0:05:46.639,0:05:52.800
i’ve ever seen yeah and it’s it’s a

0:05:49.039,0:05:55.199
quick what 23 second video and you just

0:05:52.800,0:05:57.199
you know see him from behind and every

0:05:55.199,0:05:58.400
time the princess comes by he just takes

0:05:57.199,0:06:00.960
his hat and

0:05:58.400,0:06:03.199
and tips it off and just seeing the

0:06:00.960,0:06:06.880
response of the princesses just the

0:06:03.199,0:06:06.880
reaction that they react they were just

0:06:07.280,0:06:13.120
you know or they’d curtsy or bow to him

0:06:10.639,0:06:14.720
and it was it was just adorable it was

0:06:13.120,0:06:16.000
really cute now

0:06:14.720,0:06:17.840
you know i don’t mean to rain on

0:06:16.000,0:06:20.800
anyone’s parade here because you know i

0:06:17.840,0:06:22.639
don’t do that sort of thing you never

0:06:20.800,0:06:24.319
but you know the mom coached him to do

0:06:22.639,0:06:26.639
these things and set the shot off and

0:06:24.319,0:06:28.720
all that stuff but make sure to wave

0:06:26.639,0:06:30.639
make sure to you know still it was

0:06:28.720,0:06:32.840
really cute yeah it would have been nice

0:06:30.639,0:06:34.400
to see the other side to see his

0:06:32.840,0:06:37.600
reaction right

0:06:34.400,0:06:40.880
yeah like if she did an after video of

0:06:37.600,0:06:42.960
you know they you know they did whatever

0:06:40.880,0:06:45.120
you know yeah so i guess parades are

0:06:42.960,0:06:47.120
back at disney well it’s still the

0:06:45.120,0:06:50.080
cavalcades where

0:06:47.120,0:06:51.199
they’re not announced they just kind of

0:06:50.080,0:06:53.280
happen

0:06:51.199,0:06:55.919
by chance and there’s usually only like

0:06:53.280,0:06:57.599
one or two floats from what i understand

0:06:55.919,0:07:00.319
so nothing

0:06:57.599,0:07:03.840
so our strategy is full-blown yet so our

0:07:00.319,0:07:05.759
strategy of using the parades to get on

0:07:03.840,0:07:07.919
short lines doesn’t work but we do have

0:07:05.759,0:07:09.120
another suggestion that might work let’s

0:07:07.919,0:07:10.880
talk about

0:07:09.120,0:07:14.160
we really want to

0:07:10.880,0:07:16.560
say that this is a suggestion to use

0:07:14.160,0:07:19.840
so you know this is one of those there’s

0:07:16.560,0:07:21.520
always some florida man story of you

0:07:19.840,0:07:24.720
know something

0:07:21.520,0:07:26.880
stupid that somebody in florida did so

0:07:24.720,0:07:30.720
of course this week you know no

0:07:26.880,0:07:32.880
exception so obviously for those that

0:07:30.720,0:07:35.680
plan disney trips and everything there

0:07:32.880,0:07:38.880
are books and blogs telling you how to

0:07:35.680,0:07:40.880
have a magical disney world experience

0:07:38.880,0:07:42.800
but one florida man discovered the

0:07:40.880,0:07:45.039
ultimate travel hack

0:07:42.800,0:07:47.840
using an app that lets you skip the

0:07:45.039,0:07:50.879
lines an app that everybody would want

0:07:47.840,0:07:54.400
for sure but the catch is the app was

0:07:50.879,0:07:55.759
running on a possibly stolen cast member

0:07:54.400,0:07:58.240
ipad

0:07:55.759,0:07:59.199
so a local florida news station reported

0:07:58.240,0:08:01.759
that

0:07:59.199,0:08:04.160
this 30 year old

0:08:01.759,0:08:06.319
person had allegedly

0:08:04.160,0:08:08.800
did this last june

0:08:06.319,0:08:11.120
using the unauthorized device he was

0:08:08.800,0:08:13.680
able to give himself and a group

0:08:11.120,0:08:15.840
traveling through the park with him a

0:08:13.680,0:08:17.199
jump to the front of the line so

0:08:15.840,0:08:20.319
according to the

0:08:17.199,0:08:22.960
r um according to the report he was

0:08:20.319,0:08:26.080
leading an unauthorized tour in

0:08:22.960,0:08:28.639
hollywood studios using the ipad to skip

0:08:26.080,0:08:32.080
lines for the park’s rides by making

0:08:28.639,0:08:35.279
reservation overrides so one disney

0:08:32.080,0:08:38.080
world fan site theorized that he may had

0:08:35.279,0:08:40.800
been taking advantage of disney’s system

0:08:38.080,0:08:43.120
that lets people with disabilities

0:08:40.800,0:08:45.519
reserve certain times for a ride so that

0:08:43.120,0:08:48.000
they don’t have to wait in line this

0:08:45.519,0:08:51.760
would seemingly agree with a quote

0:08:48.000,0:08:55.040
reported by wdw news today which

0:08:51.760,0:08:58.240
classified the apt as a private app for

0:08:55.040,0:09:00.800
qualifying guests that own that’s only

0:08:58.240,0:09:04.080
installed on devices owned by disney

0:09:00.800,0:09:06.000
world however this person was pulling it

0:09:04.080,0:09:09.120
off it seemed like

0:09:06.000,0:09:11.519
it was both easier and better and less

0:09:09.120,0:09:13.920
confusing than the fast pass

0:09:11.519,0:09:15.839
max fast reservation system

0:09:13.920,0:09:18.320
which obviously we’ve talked about

0:09:15.839,0:09:21.040
before it’s the antiquated system which

0:09:18.320,0:09:23.519
is due to be replaced by the new service

0:09:21.040,0:09:26.160
genie plus which we’ve also talked about

0:09:23.519,0:09:28.240
as well so as with every travel hack

0:09:26.160,0:09:30.800
there are some minor trade-offs and

0:09:28.240,0:09:33.680
inconveniences this person ended up

0:09:30.800,0:09:36.399
having to give back the ipad to a disney

0:09:33.680,0:09:39.440
investigator and was issued a warning by

0:09:36.399,0:09:41.760
disney for trespassing he reportedly

0:09:39.440,0:09:44.240
told authorities that he didn’t know it

0:09:41.760,0:09:45.600
was stolen no i didn’t know that was

0:09:44.240,0:09:47.040
stone i thought he gave these to

0:09:45.600,0:09:49.200
everybody

0:09:47.040,0:09:51.279
and there was one

0:09:49.200,0:09:52.399
one conversation going on

0:09:51.279,0:09:53.600
where

0:09:52.399,0:09:55.680
somebody

0:09:53.600,0:09:57.920
like you know so he was doing these

0:09:55.680,0:09:59.519
unauthorized tours and they thought like

0:09:57.920,0:10:01.760
he was posting on

0:09:59.519,0:10:04.480
craigslist or something like yeah that’s

0:10:01.760,0:10:06.880
where i’m gonna book a tour through

0:10:04.480,0:10:09.279
craigslist that seems totally

0:10:06.880,0:10:11.360
reputable you know well and they even

0:10:09.279,0:10:14.160
speculated in the article itself that

0:10:11.360,0:10:17.360
the the ipad itself hadn’t been reported

0:10:14.160,0:10:19.920
as stolen right which makes me wonder

0:10:17.360,0:10:22.000
was there a cast member who was involved

0:10:19.920,0:10:23.519
with this right exactly because that was

0:10:22.000,0:10:26.079
because they were actually talking about

0:10:23.519,0:10:28.000
this on the local radio station the

0:10:26.079,0:10:30.560
other day and they were saying you mean

0:10:28.000,0:10:33.519
to tell me that you know

0:10:30.560,0:10:36.320
they couldn’t do an ip search or

0:10:33.519,0:10:39.680
something and find out like obviously

0:10:36.320,0:10:42.560
you had to use a username and a login a

0:10:39.680,0:10:45.760
password to probably get into that it’s

0:10:42.560,0:10:47.680
an ipad there’s a built-in tracker right

0:10:45.760,0:10:50.560
into the ipad to see where these things

0:10:47.680,0:10:51.839
are some somebody had to have known

0:10:50.560,0:10:53.120
something

0:10:51.839,0:10:54.880
yeah you know

0:10:53.120,0:10:57.360
there’s something fishy going on there

0:10:54.880,0:10:58.959
it was stolen from my car well i’m

0:10:57.360,0:11:00.480
guessing it probably shouldn’t have even

0:10:58.959,0:11:01.760
left the park

0:11:00.480,0:11:02.959
you know i’m guessing it’s one of those

0:11:01.760,0:11:04.640
things that

0:11:02.959,0:11:07.120
yeah oh i thought this was my own

0:11:04.640,0:11:08.800
personal one big giant mouse sticker on

0:11:07.120,0:11:10.480
them

0:11:08.800,0:11:13.279
somebody’s getting fired over this one

0:11:10.480,0:11:14.880
yeah yeah so that was kind of funny but

0:11:13.279,0:11:16.880
that was all we had for our disney

0:11:14.880,0:11:19.279

0:13:52.160,0:13:56.959
demonstrated in the actual movie itself

0:13:55.040,0:13:59.279
it’ll have battle clash and blaster

0:13:56.959,0:14:00.959
effects as well as molted blade tip

effects which all the other ones the new

0:14:00.959,0:14:05.839
ones have at this point too

0:14:03.600,0:14:08.480
the yellow blade made famous by ray in

comes with a stand for display

0:14:10.880,0:14:15.839
this offers anyone with a lightsaber the

0:14:13.040,0:14:18.959
option to use the model as a toy or to

0:14:28.079,0:14:33.279
by the way i noticed

0:14:30.240,0:14:35.760
hasbro also unveiled an epic batch of

0:14:33.279,0:14:38.320
galactic figures coming to the toy

0:14:35.760,0:14:40.240
company’s black series line

0:14:38.320,0:14:42.800
eight brand new models will be added to

0:14:40.240,0:14:45.040
the line and will include 6-inch models

0:14:42.800,0:14:48.160
of the mandalorian grogu

0:14:45.040,0:14:50.720
leah organa and numerous characters from

0:14:48.160,0:14:52.560
the mandalorian television series

0:14:50.720,0:14:54.000
while the mandalorian and grogu figure

0:14:52.560,0:14:55.680
will retail

0:14:54.000,0:14:58.480
for

0:14:55.680,0:15:00.800

0:14:58.480,0:15:03.360
announcement will retail for the

0:15:00.800,0:15:05.760
same lower price of approximately 30

0:15:03.360,0:15:07.680
26.49

0:15:05.760,0:15:10.399
the final group of figures hasbro’s

0:15:07.680,0:15:13.199
releasing features new additions to

0:15:10.399,0:15:14.800
their vintage collection line of models

0:15:13.199,0:15:16.720
some of the models include characters

0:15:14.800,0:15:18.480
from the original trilogy including

0:15:16.720,0:15:21.120
emperor palpatine

0:15:18.480,0:15:23.199
lando calrissian stormtroopers bib

0:15:21.120,0:15:25.600
fortuna

0:15:23.199,0:15:27.600
also included in the hasbro and as a

0:15:25.600,0:15:30.480
hasbro’s announcement is a retro

0:15:27.600,0:15:33.120
inspired prototype stormtrooper

0:15:30.480,0:15:35.279
which has a multicolored body armor

0:15:33.120,0:15:36.639
as opposed to the traditional white and

0:15:35.279,0:15:38.800
black

0:15:36.639,0:15:41.600
figures in the vintage line collection

0:15:38.800,0:15:44.000
also vary in price ranging from 13.99 to

0:15:41.600,0:15:45.839
41.99

0:15:44.000,0:15:48.320
although most of the items are at the

0:15:45.839,0:15:50.240
lower end of the scale so this is kind

0:15:48.320,0:15:51.920
of like the pre-christmas announcement

0:15:50.240,0:15:53.680
type thing that that i always like to

0:15:51.920,0:15:55.680
see where absolutely what’s the new

0:15:53.680,0:15:57.519
stuff coming out right you know the

0:15:55.680,0:15:59.040
biggest thing that that i think i’m

0:15:57.519,0:16:00.560
interested in is probably going to be

0:15:59.040,0:16:01.680
the lightsaber of course because you

0:16:00.560,0:16:04.000
have all the

0:16:01.680,0:16:05.920
other ones well and the last two that

0:16:04.000,0:16:08.639
came in because you got me the palpatine

0:16:05.920,0:16:10.880
one you got me the rev one both of them

0:16:08.639,0:16:14.160
are awesome they’re they’re the effects

0:16:10.880,0:16:17.360
on these ones you can definitely see how

0:16:14.160,0:16:19.680
it’s evolved from the first ones to you

0:16:17.360,0:16:23.440
know now the first one that you ever got

0:16:19.680,0:16:24.399
me is my gen one force effects back when

0:16:23.440,0:16:26.320
uh

0:16:24.399,0:16:28.399
before hasbro was doing them first

0:16:26.320,0:16:29.600
effects was doing them

0:16:28.399,0:16:31.759
and uh

0:16:29.600,0:16:33.920
it’s the gen one darth vader right and i

0:16:31.759,0:16:37.680
still have that one yep and you can

0:16:33.920,0:16:39.759
really see the the improvement in in

0:16:37.680,0:16:41.120
material and quality and crafting and

0:16:39.759,0:16:42.560
everything through the time now you got

0:16:41.120,0:16:44.000
all kinds of effects with these and

0:16:42.560,0:16:46.160
everything right right

0:16:44.000,0:16:48.240
uh so i’m kind of excited to see they’re

0:16:46.160,0:16:50.160
a little more expensive though

0:16:48.240,0:16:52.880
uh the original force effects were going

0:16:50.160,0:16:55.040
somewhere in the range of the 150 to two

0:16:52.880,0:16:57.120
yeah weren’t they like 199 i think yeah

0:16:55.040,0:16:59.920
you can get them between 150 and

0:16:57.120,0:17:00.880
200 but um

0:16:59.920,0:17:02.880
they’re pretty cool i like the new

0:17:00.880,0:17:05.360
stands too yeah hang them on the wall

0:17:02.880,0:17:06.640
which which i’m not a big fan of right

0:17:05.360,0:17:09.360
that’s something where we need to look

0:17:06.640,0:17:10.720
at like etsy again to kind of find you

0:17:09.360,0:17:14.160
something to

0:17:10.720,0:17:15.439
put them all together on on one thing so

0:17:14.160,0:17:16.839
i don’t want to wait till the spring for

0:17:15.439,0:17:20.799
this stuff though

0:17:16.839,0:17:22.400
but anyway supply and demand honey

0:17:20.799,0:17:24.160
if i don’t want to wait till the spring

0:17:22.400,0:17:25.439
december is right around the corner

0:17:24.160,0:17:28.400
right true

0:17:25.439,0:17:31.200
so in december the art of star wars the

0:17:28.400,0:17:33.520
mandalorian season 2 is coming

0:17:31.200,0:17:35.280
if you’re jonesing for your fill of the

0:17:33.520,0:17:37.600
mandalorian while we wait for the much

0:17:35.280,0:17:40.080
anticipated third season

0:17:37.600,0:17:42.640
you might not have to wait much longer

0:17:40.080,0:17:44.960
lucasfilm announced the art of star wars

0:17:42.640,0:17:48.320

0:17:48.320,0:17:53.440
chronicling the making of the of the hit

0:17:50.799,0:17:55.760
disney plus original series

0:17:53.440,0:17:58.640
written by lucasfilm’s phil

0:17:55.760,0:18:01.120
zostak sorry phil zostak

0:17:58.640,0:18:03.440
the book arrives december 14th

and comes filled with concept art

0:18:03.440,0:18:07.280
character vehicle weapon and creature

0:18:05.919,0:18:09.600
designs

0:18:07.280,0:18:11.280
also included are interviews with key

0:18:09.600,0:18:13.360
crew and creatives

0:18:11.280,0:18:15.919
including show creator executive

0:18:13.360,0:18:18.000
producer and writer john favreau

0:18:15.919,0:18:19.919
and executive producer director and

0:18:18.000,0:18:22.160
writer dave filoni

0:18:19.919,0:18:25.360
in addition the cover features new

0:18:22.160,0:18:28.480
artwork by lucasfilm legend doug chang

0:18:25.360,0:18:30.480
created exclusively for this release the

0:18:28.480,0:18:33.200
art of star wars the mandalorian season

0:18:30.480,0:18:36.400
2 arrives december 14th

0:18:33.200,0:18:38.000
and is available for pre-order now

0:18:36.400,0:18:41.679
now i don’t

0:18:38.000,0:18:44.160
generally collect the art books you have

0:18:41.679,0:18:45.039
you actually do have quite a quite a few

0:18:44.160,0:18:47.360
of them

0:18:45.039,0:18:50.480
but we don’t have a coffee table right

0:18:47.360,0:18:52.080
now to lay them out so unfortunately

0:18:50.480,0:18:54.640
they’re all

0:18:52.080,0:18:56.799
on their own bookshelves right right i

0:18:54.640,0:18:58.320
don’t really get to uh enjoy them as

0:18:56.799,0:19:00.320
much on the bookshelves yeah it’s

0:18:58.320,0:19:02.080
usually once you get it you kind of

0:19:00.320,0:19:05.039
look through it and then well that was

0:19:02.080,0:19:07.840
like you got me the star wars vault

0:19:05.039,0:19:10.559
years ago yeah yeah i still haven’t even

0:19:07.840,0:19:12.080
opened it that thing is still primed and

0:19:10.559,0:19:14.799
wrapped in the plastic at this point so

0:19:12.080,0:19:17.280
how much can we get for it

0:19:14.799,0:19:18.720
no i haven’t looked it up but

0:19:17.280,0:19:21.520
the problem with the bucks is just

0:19:18.720,0:19:23.600
they’re so damn heavy right that is true

0:19:21.520,0:19:26.480
but the the nice thing too is you know

0:19:23.600,0:19:27.840
if you watch the mandalorian um or they

0:19:26.480,0:19:30.400
even do it with

0:19:27.840,0:19:32.720
marvel with what if as well when they

0:19:30.400,0:19:35.760
roll the credits they show

0:19:32.720,0:19:37.919
all these concept art pictures right so

0:19:35.760,0:19:38.799
that’s what’s always kind of a cool

0:19:37.919,0:19:41.600
thing

0:19:38.799,0:19:43.039
when we’ve watched the mandalorian show

0:19:41.600,0:19:45.520
is to

0:19:43.039,0:19:47.679
wait till the credits and actually watch

0:19:45.520,0:19:49.919
the different art that they came up with

0:19:47.679,0:19:53.919
to see what their vision of a certain

0:19:49.919,0:19:56.240
scene was and how true they matched it

0:19:53.919,0:19:58.799
to the actual show what’s kind of neat

0:19:56.240,0:20:00.880
is everyone knows and loves the ralph

0:19:58.799,0:20:03.919
macquarie art that was all the concept

0:20:00.880,0:20:05.840
art for the original trilogy

0:20:03.919,0:20:08.240
none of which ever made it in its

0:20:05.840,0:20:10.000
original form into the movies

0:20:08.240,0:20:11.520
but you can see the inspiration as it

0:20:10.000,0:20:12.400
goes along

0:20:11.520,0:20:16.240
and

0:20:12.400,0:20:18.000
seeing the sketches and the concept art

0:20:16.240,0:20:19.600
does the same thing at the end of the

0:20:18.000,0:20:21.520
episode where you can see what that

0:20:19.600,0:20:23.520
inspiration was and what those original

0:20:21.520,0:20:25.520
ideas were and

0:20:23.520,0:20:28.080
how it kind of evolved from that into

0:20:25.520,0:20:30.159
the final product right right so it’s a

0:20:28.080,0:20:32.320
great glimpse and i’m hoping the book

0:20:30.159,0:20:33.919
itself has a lot of that concept art in

0:20:32.320,0:20:34.880
there so you can get that behind the

0:20:33.919,0:20:36.559
scenes

0:20:34.880,0:20:38.559
like you can watch interviews and you

0:20:36.559,0:20:40.640
can see the behind the scenes you know

0:20:38.559,0:20:41.840
footage and stuff that the documentaries

0:20:40.640,0:20:44.159
did

0:20:41.840,0:20:45.679
but the artwork itself is really the

0:20:44.159,0:20:47.679
root of all of it that’s where that

0:20:45.679,0:20:49.360
imagination starts

0:20:47.679,0:20:51.360
and to see the evolution of that is

0:20:49.360,0:20:53.840
actually really to see how how the

0:20:51.360,0:20:55.919
developers brains are actually working

0:20:53.840,0:20:58.000
with this stuff yeah

0:20:55.919,0:20:59.760
so that was all we had for our tales

0:20:58.000,0:21:01.679
from the edge of the galaxy we’ll be

0:20:59.760,0:21:04.799

0:23:08.960,0:23:13.120
yeah i’m not even going to help you with

0:23:10.080,0:23:14.799
that one yeah i’m not sure various areas

0:23:13.120,0:23:16.480
that

0:23:14.799,0:23:18.480
basically they filmed everything in cape

0:23:16.480,0:23:21.200
town and it’s going to look like other

0:23:18.480,0:23:24.400
various desert areas throughout the the

0:23:21.200,0:23:26.799
story al hudayah sure and the empty

0:23:24.400,0:23:30.880
quarter and the desert that is on the

0:23:26.799,0:23:33.440
way to the city of aden aiden aiden uh

0:23:30.880,0:23:37.840
so tenant as phineas fogg the intrepid

0:23:33.440,0:23:37.840
adventurer and his uh

0:23:37.919,0:23:44.400
uh in genuine in ingenuity oh geez

0:23:41.120,0:23:47.279
ingenuity and clever uh contraptions are

0:23:44.400,0:23:49.440
put to the test through the voyage um

0:23:47.279,0:23:50.400
his companion

0:23:49.440,0:23:53.600
um

0:23:50.400,0:23:56.080
i guess it’s abraham abraham

0:23:53.600,0:23:59.760
coma uh stars as

0:23:56.080,0:24:02.159
passpark toad who is fogg’s trusty

0:23:59.760,0:24:04.480
french sidekick who goes with him every

0:24:02.159,0:24:06.240
step of the journey and then the crown

0:24:04.480,0:24:07.200
star lani

0:24:06.240,0:24:08.400
uh

0:24:07.200,0:24:11.840
bench

0:24:08.400,0:24:14.320
banesh banesh plays abigail fix a

0:24:11.840,0:24:16.799
journalist who accompanies the men in

0:24:14.320,0:24:19.039
order to chronicle the adventure so

0:24:16.799,0:24:20.960
production on the eight episode series

0:24:19.039,0:24:23.039
wrapped in march this year and the show

0:24:20.960,0:24:25.600
will be the latest in a long line of

0:24:23.039,0:24:27.840
adaptations of jules verne’s classic

0:24:25.600,0:24:30.799
story which tenant follows in the

0:24:27.840,0:24:34.159
footsteps of the likes of david niven

0:24:30.799,0:24:36.880
pierce brosnan and steve coogan who all

0:24:34.159,0:24:38.640
had played fog

0:24:36.880,0:24:42.000
that was very good sweetheart you did

0:24:38.640,0:24:42.000
very good pronouncing all those

0:24:42.559,0:24:46.559
and you put the

0:24:44.080,0:24:48.080
you put the article in this week

0:24:46.559,0:24:51.760
what was i gonna do

0:24:48.080,0:24:53.520
so that guy that guy oh and that one

0:24:51.760,0:24:54.960
yeah you need to you need to screen the

0:24:53.520,0:24:57.440
articles and only get articles that

0:24:54.960,0:24:59.120
don’t have tough names right exactly

0:24:57.440,0:25:01.919
thanks so this actually looks kind of

0:24:59.120,0:25:04.080
cool yeah it does the trailer actually

0:25:01.919,0:25:05.360
looked rather yeah i’m not going to play

0:25:04.080,0:25:07.279
right here on the screen right because

0:25:05.360,0:25:10.320
we don’t want to get taken down for

0:25:07.279,0:25:13.840
anything but yeah go and look for the

0:25:10.320,0:25:16.240
around the world in 80 days teaser

0:25:13.840,0:25:18.559
for bbc one so hopefully it’ll come out

0:25:16.240,0:25:22.080
on bbc america

0:25:18.559,0:25:23.760
probably after i’m guessing probably um

0:25:22.080,0:25:25.520
i gotta tell you david tennant looks

0:25:23.760,0:25:27.760
pretty good with the mustache he does he

0:25:25.520,0:25:29.440
looks very dapper there was actually a

0:25:27.760,0:25:31.360
friend of mine who does a lot of

0:25:29.440,0:25:34.080
different cosplay

0:25:31.360,0:25:35.760
and he was like i need a three-piece

0:25:34.080,0:25:38.080
suit now

0:25:35.760,0:25:40.080
so that i can pull this pull this look

0:25:38.080,0:25:42.960
off yeah he looks he looks really good

0:25:40.080,0:25:44.720
like that yeah yeah looks very serious

0:25:42.960,0:25:46.559
though

0:25:44.720,0:25:48.880
but uh yeah everyone we always love

0:25:46.559,0:25:51.520
everything he’s in he’s awesome man yeah

0:25:48.880,0:25:54.480
even when we watched that that one like

0:25:51.520,0:25:57.360
detective drama where he was the bad guy

0:25:54.480,0:25:59.840
and it was like it was kind of creepy

0:25:57.360,0:26:02.480
because you’re like no it’s the doctor

0:25:59.840,0:26:04.559
he’s not supposed to be bad i do get a

0:26:02.480,0:26:06.960
kick out of the fact anytime he’s in

0:26:04.559,0:26:09.760
anything that revolves around traveling

0:26:06.960,0:26:11.279
or time travel right it’s like well he’s

0:26:09.760,0:26:13.120
got that one mastered already yeah he

0:26:11.279,0:26:15.120
knows how to do that he’s got that down

0:26:13.120,0:26:16.960
bad he’s good like that

0:26:15.120,0:26:19.840
so what else do we have today so it

0:26:16.960,0:26:21.360
seems that netflix has acquired the

0:26:19.840,0:26:24.960
works of

0:26:21.360,0:26:27.039
roll doll the late british author of

0:26:24.960,0:26:29.120
celebrated children’s books such as

0:26:27.039,0:26:31.760
charlie and the chocolate factory the

0:26:29.120,0:26:35.919
video streaming giant said on wednesday

0:26:31.760,0:26:38.400
that it acquired um raw dolls story

0:26:35.919,0:26:41.360
company which manages the rights of the

0:26:38.400,0:26:44.000
authors characters and stories so no

0:26:41.360,0:26:46.000
financial terms were discussed but the

0:26:44.000,0:26:49.760
deal builds on a partnership that was

0:26:46.000,0:26:52.400
actually struck in 2018 to create a

0:26:49.760,0:26:54.159
slate of animated tv series

0:26:52.400,0:26:56.799
under which charlie in the chocolate

0:26:54.159,0:26:59.679
factory is getting a reboot by academy

0:26:56.799,0:27:02.320
award-winning filmmaker taika wattidi

0:26:59.679,0:27:03.440
and netflix is working with sony on an

0:27:02.320,0:27:07.440
ab

0:27:03.440,0:27:09.679
an adaptation of matilda the musical the

0:27:07.440,0:27:12.400
new deal paves the way for netflix to

0:27:09.679,0:27:13.600
bring all of the authors back catalog to

0:27:12.400,0:27:16.159
the screen

0:27:13.600,0:27:18.960
so these projects opened our eyes to a

0:27:16.159,0:27:21.840
much more ambitious venture the creation

0:27:18.960,0:27:24.080
of a unique universe across animated and

0:27:21.840,0:27:27.039
live-action films and tv

0:27:24.080,0:27:29.919
publishing games immersive experiences

0:27:27.039,0:27:32.480
live theater consumer products and more

0:27:29.919,0:27:33.840
said netflix co-ceo

0:27:32.480,0:27:37.039
uh

0:27:33.840,0:27:39.600
ted sarandis and luke kelly managing

0:27:37.039,0:27:42.960
director of the raw dolls

0:27:39.600,0:27:44.960
uh story company and dahl’s grandson

0:27:42.960,0:27:47.840
said in a joint statement

0:27:44.960,0:27:50.960
so doll had actually passed away in 1990

0:27:47.840,0:27:55.440
at the age of 74 but his books which

0:27:50.960,0:27:58.880
include the bfg the twits and fantastic

0:27:55.440,0:28:01.679
mr fox remain popular with young readers

0:27:58.880,0:28:05.200
with more than 300 million copies sold

0:28:01.679,0:28:08.000
worldwide and translations in 63

0:28:05.200,0:28:09.360
languages now i’m going to claim

0:28:08.000,0:28:12.080
ignorance here

0:28:09.360,0:28:14.240
i was not aware that he was he was

0:28:12.080,0:28:16.960
responsible for that many you know

0:28:14.240,0:28:18.799
popular books um

0:28:16.960,0:28:20.799
i knew about charlie and the chocolate

0:28:18.799,0:28:23.039
factory james and the giant peach is

0:28:20.799,0:28:24.559
another one uh

0:28:23.039,0:28:26.559
and it makes sense because it’s in that

0:28:24.559,0:28:28.159
same style of his yeah right he’s got a

0:28:26.559,0:28:30.559
very distinctive style right he has a

0:28:28.159,0:28:32.880
very distinct style and

0:28:30.559,0:28:34.720
and it’s funny because not all

0:28:32.880,0:28:36.799
like because

0:28:34.720,0:28:39.200
a lot of his

0:28:36.799,0:28:41.360
things if they’re not live action

0:28:39.200,0:28:43.520
they’ve been doing like the claymation

0:28:41.360,0:28:47.279
right type thing so like the fantastic

0:28:43.520,0:28:49.039
mr fox is a perfect example and um

0:28:47.279,0:28:52.000
james and the giant peach is a little

0:28:49.039,0:28:56.720
bit live action but also the claymation

0:28:52.000,0:28:56.720
i think um the bfg was also

0:28:57.440,0:29:00.000
the stop claymation

0:28:58.559,0:29:02.720
animation so

0:29:00.000,0:29:05.120
i don’t know if it’s just that’s

0:29:02.720,0:29:07.919
the area that they decided to go with

0:29:05.120,0:29:09.200
and kind of kept going with it or it’s

0:29:07.919,0:29:11.520
funny being a

0:29:09.200,0:29:12.900
computer gamer bfg has a whole different

0:29:11.520,0:29:16.080
meaning to me

0:29:12.900,0:29:18.240
[Laughter]

0:29:16.080,0:29:20.720
it is not big friendly giant i can tell

0:29:18.240,0:29:22.960
you no no but it’s funny because all of

0:29:20.720,0:29:24.559
his stories

0:29:22.960,0:29:27.840
it’s funny because they’re children

0:29:24.559,0:29:30.720
stories but they’re they have a dark

0:29:27.840,0:29:32.640
yeah that’s a cloud yes over them like

0:29:30.720,0:29:34.960
charlie and the chocolate factory is not

0:29:32.640,0:29:37.520
a really happy story unless you’re

0:29:34.960,0:29:38.399
charlie but even then charlie kind of

0:29:37.520,0:29:40.559
has a

0:29:38.399,0:29:42.720
very dismal i mean they basically

0:29:40.559,0:29:45.039
torture the kids and then all of a

0:29:42.720,0:29:47.440
sudden you know hey here’s my chocolate

0:29:45.039,0:29:48.720
factory spoilers you know where all the

0:29:47.440,0:29:51.279
other kids

0:29:48.720,0:29:53.840
they’re all brats in one way shape or

0:29:51.279,0:29:55.440
form you know or the fantastic mystery

0:29:53.840,0:29:57.840
doesn’t necessarily mean you can do what

0:29:55.440,0:29:59.760
you did to him in the in the book right

0:29:57.840,0:30:02.399
exactly and then you know the fantastic

0:29:59.760,0:30:04.640
mr fox it’s you know it’s like you’re

0:30:02.399,0:30:05.840
stealing the chickens and you know it’s

0:30:04.640,0:30:07.840
like

0:30:05.840,0:30:10.640
that’s what fox is doing well yeah but

0:30:07.840,0:30:13.039
it’s yeah it’s it’s one of those

0:30:10.640,0:30:15.440
i know there are people that are fans of

0:30:13.039,0:30:17.200
of all of his stuff you know and it’s

0:30:15.440,0:30:18.559
one of those

0:30:17.200,0:30:20.320
you know he

0:30:18.559,0:30:23.360
will watch them

0:30:20.320,0:30:25.440
but i don’t you know like honestly

0:30:23.360,0:30:27.520
charlie and the choc chocolate factory

0:30:25.440,0:30:28.559
scared the bejesus out of me when i was

0:30:27.520,0:30:31.440
a kid

0:30:28.559,0:30:33.600
he is not disney he is definitely not

0:30:31.440,0:30:36.559
disney hence why he’s on

0:30:33.600,0:30:38.320
netflix exactly exactly

0:30:36.559,0:30:40.640
so that was all we had for our

0:30:38.320,0:30:44.320
entertainment news this week we’ll be

0:30:40.640,0:30:44.320
right back with our insightful picks

0:30:44.590,0:30:49.600
[Applause]

0:30:47.530,0:30:51.840
[Music]

0:30:49.600,0:30:54.720
go for your insightful pick so my

0:30:51.840,0:30:56.960
insightful pick from comes from a disney

0:30:54.720,0:31:01.360
plus series um it’s

0:30:56.960,0:31:04.559
it’s a teen family adventure uh story so

0:31:01.360,0:31:06.480
it is the mysterious benedict society

0:31:04.559,0:31:09.200
so after winning a scholarship

0:31:06.480,0:31:12.240
competition four gifted orphans are

0:31:09.200,0:31:15.279
recruited by the strange and unusual mr

0:31:12.240,0:31:18.559
benedict for a dangerous mission to save

0:31:15.279,0:31:20.720
the world from a global crisis known as

0:31:18.559,0:31:23.760
the emergency

0:31:20.720,0:31:25.600
rainey sticky kate and constance must

0:31:23.760,0:31:29.039
infiltrate the evil

0:31:25.600,0:31:32.159
l-i-v-e institute to discover the truth

0:31:29.039,0:31:35.519
behind the crisis when the headmaster

0:31:32.159,0:31:39.360
the sophisticated dr curtin appears to

0:31:35.519,0:31:42.320
be behind this worldwide panic the kids

0:31:39.360,0:31:44.960
of the mysterious benedict society must

0:31:42.320,0:31:47.200
devise a plan to defeat him

0:31:44.960,0:31:50.080
the mysterious benedict society is an

0:31:47.200,0:31:52.399
american mystery adventure

0:31:50.080,0:31:55.120
uh television series which is actually

0:31:52.399,0:31:58.159
based on the children’s books by trenton

0:31:55.120,0:32:00.480
lee stewart the series starts tony hale

0:31:58.159,0:32:03.200
as mr benedict who gathers the four

0:32:00.480,0:32:06.320
children to stop the global emergency

0:32:03.200,0:32:09.039
hal also betrays benedict’s twin brother

0:32:06.320,0:32:11.840
mr curtain who is the founder of the

0:32:09.039,0:32:14.399
school the children are infiltrating the

0:32:11.840,0:32:17.519
series premiered on disney plus uh in

0:32:14.399,0:32:20.799
june and consists of eight episodes so

0:32:17.519,0:32:23.360
it’s a uh definitely a

0:32:20.799,0:32:26.559
a mystery show very much like sulphur

0:32:23.360,0:32:29.279
springs uh which was a show that

0:32:26.559,0:32:32.320
maddie and i had watched over the summer

0:32:29.279,0:32:34.720
um lots of little plot twists and turns

0:32:32.320,0:32:35.760
and why are they doing this it has a

0:32:34.720,0:32:37.399
very

0:32:35.760,0:32:41.679
like

0:32:37.399,0:32:43.039
1960s kind of feel to it where you’re

0:32:41.679,0:32:44.399
not really sure

0:32:43.039,0:32:47.200
when it’s

0:32:44.399,0:32:48.559
uh taking place there’s um you know

0:32:47.200,0:32:51.519
television

0:32:48.559,0:32:54.640
uh there’s tv so the idea is that there

0:32:51.519,0:32:57.440
are uh radio waves uh subliminal

0:32:54.640,0:33:01.360
messages that are going out into

0:32:57.440,0:33:04.399
the the airway um that not everybody can

0:33:01.360,0:33:07.600
hear and that they’re using children to

0:33:04.399,0:33:10.640
be these messengers to to send these

0:33:07.600,0:33:12.799
message and basically they talk about

0:33:10.640,0:33:16.080
the emergency but nobody knows what it

0:33:12.799,0:33:18.000
is like is it the end of the world is it

0:33:16.080,0:33:19.919
oh we better go get this because the

0:33:18.000,0:33:21.039
emergency is happening but nobody talks

0:33:19.919,0:33:23.679
about

0:33:21.039,0:33:26.159
what it is and what ends up happening is

0:33:23.679,0:33:27.440
they they do this competition to kind of

0:33:26.159,0:33:30.000
find

0:33:27.440,0:33:30.880
the best kids for

0:33:30.000,0:33:33.679
this

0:33:30.880,0:33:36.640
mission and you have these uh you know

0:33:33.679,0:33:40.399
four orphans who basically come together

0:33:36.640,0:33:43.360
and kind of perf uh um come together as

0:33:40.399,0:33:45.679
this like super group of kids to try and

0:33:43.360,0:33:47.519
help so we’re only i think we’re only

0:33:45.679,0:33:49.279
two episodes or three episodes in so

0:33:47.519,0:33:51.679
like a traveling wild berries

0:33:49.279,0:33:53.760
sure we’ll go with that but it’s it’s

0:33:51.679,0:33:55.600
really cute it’s definitely you know

0:33:53.760,0:33:58.159
something you know for the family to

0:33:55.600,0:34:00.480
watch together so all right cool pick

0:33:58.159,0:34:00.480
thank you

0:34:01.550,0:34:07.600
[Applause]

0:34:03.919,0:34:11.359
so my pick this week is a documentary on

0:34:07.600,0:34:14.720
netflix called mercury 13.

0:34:11.359,0:34:18.240
mercury 13 is the untold story of women

0:34:14.720,0:34:21.200
testing for space flight in the 1960s

0:34:18.240,0:34:24.639
in this netflix documentary the tales of

0:34:21.200,0:34:27.040
13 female pilots who dreamed of becoming

0:34:24.639,0:34:29.520
astronauts yet were denied the

0:34:27.040,0:34:31.280
opportunity by nasa are finally brought

0:34:29.520,0:34:33.520
to light

0:34:31.280,0:34:35.200
when neil armstrong stepped on the

0:34:33.520,0:34:37.440
surface of the moon

0:34:35.200,0:34:38.800
he declared that he had taken one small

0:34:37.440,0:34:41.839
step for man

0:34:38.800,0:34:44.480
one giant leap for mankind

0:34:41.839,0:34:46.399
but what if that one small step had been

0:34:44.480,0:34:48.320
taken by a woman

0:34:46.399,0:34:50.560
what would that have represented at a

0:34:48.320,0:34:53.679
time when the american public was just

0:34:50.560,0:34:56.560
starting to wake up to women’s rights

0:34:53.679,0:34:58.640
this new documentary

0:34:56.560,0:35:01.119
this new documentary film on netflix

0:34:58.640,0:35:04.240
hopes to answer that question

0:35:01.119,0:35:06.960
mercury 13 explores the paths of 13

0:35:04.240,0:35:09.040
female pilots who were subjected to many

0:35:06.960,0:35:11.359
of the same rigorous tests that all the

0:35:09.040,0:35:14.240
male mercury 7 were

0:35:11.359,0:35:17.119
and either passed or exceeded their male

0:35:14.240,0:35:19.599
counterparts in every one of them

0:35:17.119,0:35:21.839
despite the triumphant completion of

0:35:19.599,0:35:23.839
many invasive tests

0:35:21.839,0:35:26.320
they were still prevented from entering

0:35:23.839,0:35:28.800
nasa’s space training program

0:35:26.320,0:35:30.640
this despite the fact that nasa’s direct

0:35:28.800,0:35:33.200
competition in russia

0:35:30.640,0:35:34.960
was moving forward with the first woman

0:35:33.200,0:35:37.200
in space

0:35:34.960,0:35:40.240
the film details many of the

0:35:37.200,0:35:43.119
physiological and psychological testing

0:35:40.240,0:35:45.119
that these heroic women had to endure

0:35:43.119,0:35:47.680
the same testing the men went through

0:35:45.119,0:35:48.800
and in many cases didn’t fare nearly as

0:35:47.680,0:35:50.880
well

0:35:48.800,0:35:53.359
it chronicles their journey in the early

0:35:50.880,0:35:54.960
1960s when the space race heated up with

0:35:53.359,0:35:57.440
the russians

0:35:54.960,0:35:59.839
the documentary details the storied and

0:35:57.440,0:36:01.440
impressive flying history of all the

0:35:59.839,0:36:03.760
women in the program

0:36:01.440,0:36:06.880
talking about how they got into flying

0:36:03.760,0:36:08.800
and what some of their inspirations were

0:36:06.880,0:36:10.839
the same doctor who conducted the

0:36:08.800,0:36:13.920
government-funded test on the male

0:36:10.839,0:36:16.720
astronauts had to find private funding

0:36:13.920,0:36:19.280
to fulfill his ambition of proving that

0:36:16.720,0:36:22.400
women were just as capable because the

0:36:19.280,0:36:24.320
government refused to fund the research

0:36:22.400,0:36:26.560
the film also details the legal

0:36:24.320,0:36:28.880
challenges the women raised before

0:36:26.560,0:36:31.040
congress and culminates with their

0:36:28.880,0:36:32.800
finally being honored by nasa at the

0:36:31.040,0:36:35.280
launching of the first space shuttle

0:36:32.800,0:36:37.920
piloted by a woman

0:36:35.280,0:36:40.000
it’s a touching and inspirational story

0:36:37.920,0:36:42.880
that is indicative of the sad state of

0:36:40.000,0:36:44.800
affairs our society was in with regard

0:36:42.880,0:36:46.880
to the equal rights for women in the

0:36:44.800,0:36:49.119
1960s

0:36:46.880,0:36:50.480
while the program shows us how far we’ve

0:36:49.119,0:36:52.800
come to combat some of these

0:36:50.480,0:36:54.880
discriminatory behaviors

0:36:52.800,0:36:56.960
it also serves to shine a light on the

0:36:54.880,0:36:58.400
progress yet to be made in the search

0:36:56.960,0:37:00.880
for equality

0:36:58.400,0:37:04.000
for everyone regardless of gender race

0:37:00.880,0:37:05.920
ethnicity religion or identity

0:37:04.000,0:37:08.160
it’s programs like this that help me see

0:37:05.920,0:37:09.680
a brighter tomorrow for our own future

0:37:08.160,0:37:11.599
female engineer

0:37:09.680,0:37:13.680
and it’s an inspiration to all young

0:37:11.599,0:37:15.359
women that you should never let anyone

0:37:13.680,0:37:16.560
tell you that you can’t achieve your

0:37:15.359,0:37:19.200
dreams

0:37:16.560,0:37:20.839
the the show itself it was a very

0:37:19.200,0:37:22.800
low-key

0:37:20.839,0:37:25.359
documentary and

0:37:22.800,0:37:26.960
what i liked about it was

0:37:25.359,0:37:29.440
they went and they talked to all of

0:37:26.960,0:37:32.160
these women and these women

0:37:29.440,0:37:34.880
conveyed the stories themselves it

0:37:32.160,0:37:36.720
wasn’t stuff that was stock footage and

0:37:34.880,0:37:39.280
you know historians that were reading it

0:37:36.720,0:37:42.400
they actually talked to the women

0:37:39.280,0:37:44.160
and you could hear in their voices

0:37:42.400,0:37:46.560
the

0:37:44.160,0:37:48.640
emotion and the disappointment and the

0:37:46.560,0:37:50.960
betrayal that they felt by their own

0:37:48.640,0:37:52.720
country after going through everything

0:37:50.960,0:37:55.440
that they went through

0:37:52.720,0:37:56.400
and a lot of these women started out

0:37:55.440,0:37:58.480
with

0:37:56.400,0:37:59.680
flying for

0:37:58.480,0:38:00.560
um

0:37:59.680,0:38:04.480
the

0:38:00.560,0:38:06.800
during the war or after the war they um

0:38:04.480,0:38:09.280
their their parents had flown

0:38:06.800,0:38:11.680
uh the women auxiliary corps

0:38:09.280,0:38:12.880
that did their part for the war at the

0:38:11.680,0:38:14.560
time

0:38:12.880,0:38:17.359
and

0:38:14.560,0:38:19.680
they felt a patriotic surge that they

0:38:17.359,0:38:21.839
wanted to be a part of this

0:38:19.680,0:38:23.680
and it was it was literally just

0:38:21.839,0:38:25.520
male chauvinism that shut the whole

0:38:23.680,0:38:26.880
thing down although while the whole time

0:38:25.520,0:38:29.520
the russians were in the process of

0:38:26.880,0:38:31.200
doing the same very thing itself

0:38:29.520,0:38:33.200
and it was one of those things where we

0:38:31.200,0:38:34.960
lit we had a head start this was one of

0:38:33.200,0:38:37.280
those things that we had a head start we

0:38:34.960,0:38:38.400
had 13 women before russia even thought

0:38:37.280,0:38:40.240
about it

0:38:38.400,0:38:42.400
we had 13 women who had gone through

0:38:40.240,0:38:44.240
these tests that were qualified

0:38:42.400,0:38:45.760
and they just shut the program down we

0:38:44.240,0:38:47.440
actually had a chance to be one of the

0:38:45.760,0:38:49.280
first before because the only first

0:38:47.440,0:38:51.520
we’ve ever won with the russians in the

0:38:49.280,0:38:52.560
space race was stepping on the moon

0:38:51.520,0:38:54.480
right

0:38:52.560,0:38:56.880
and that was at the end of the decade

0:38:54.480,0:38:59.520
and we we could have won this one here

0:38:56.880,0:39:00.960
and had multiple women in space

0:38:59.520,0:39:02.480
and one of the things that i thought was

0:39:00.960,0:39:04.880
very interesting was

0:39:02.480,0:39:08.000
one of the tests that they did

0:39:04.880,0:39:10.000
was it was a sensory deprivation chamber

0:39:08.000,0:39:12.640
and they they took the women and put

0:39:10.000,0:39:15.920
them in this pool of water this giant

0:39:12.640,0:39:17.040
pool of water in a big room completely

0:39:15.920,0:39:19.040
dark

0:39:17.040,0:39:20.560
and they made them neutrally buoyant so

0:39:19.040,0:39:23.200
they just floated there

0:39:20.560,0:39:25.599
they had ear plugs in and they set the

0:39:23.200,0:39:27.119
temperature of the water and the air to

0:39:25.599,0:39:29.119
their body temperature so they couldn’t

0:39:27.119,0:39:30.400
even feel the water they literally it

0:39:29.119,0:39:33.440
was they were trying to simulate

0:39:30.400,0:39:34.400
weightlessness in space okay

0:39:33.440,0:39:35.839
and

0:39:34.400,0:39:38.160
the women

0:39:35.839,0:39:40.720
excelled at this

0:39:38.160,0:39:43.200
they were they could spend hours in this

0:39:40.720,0:39:44.880
chamber and they said the guys the men

0:39:43.200,0:39:47.200
that when they went through this they

0:39:44.880,0:39:49.440
went bonkers within like 15 minutes they

0:39:47.200,0:39:51.359
couldn’t they couldn’t stand it

0:39:49.440,0:39:52.480
and it was funny to see the dynamic

0:39:51.359,0:39:54.400
between

0:39:52.480,0:39:55.520
the genders and how they could handle

0:39:54.400,0:39:57.280
these things

0:39:55.520,0:39:59.520
and it was almost indicative of okay

0:39:57.280,0:40:01.920
well if you’re gonna send somebody on

0:39:59.520,0:40:03.680
a six-month mission to mars

0:40:01.920,0:40:05.200
you’re probably better off sending women

0:40:03.680,0:40:06.640
on that than men because the men are

0:40:05.200,0:40:08.640
probably gonna go insane and kill each

0:40:06.640,0:40:11.040
other right before they even get there

0:40:08.640,0:40:13.440
right right so it was really neat to see

0:40:11.040,0:40:16.960
some of these comparisons that they did

0:40:13.440,0:40:18.640
and and some of the comments that the

0:40:16.960,0:40:20.400
the astronauts because they showed stock

0:40:18.640,0:40:22.319
footage of some of the astronauts and

0:40:20.400,0:40:24.480
some of the comments that they made and

0:40:22.319,0:40:27.200
we saw it when we were watching

0:40:24.480,0:40:29.119
the uh right the space program on

0:40:27.200,0:40:29.839
netflix that one series that we watched

0:40:29.119,0:40:31.839
right

0:40:29.839,0:40:34.079
and they really took it from that stock

0:40:31.839,0:40:36.800
footage because it was just

0:40:34.079,0:40:39.119
insult even now i i see that stuff and

0:40:36.800,0:40:42.880
it irks me now to see what

0:40:39.119,0:40:44.800
these you know barbarians were saying

0:40:42.880,0:40:46.480
but the the show itself was actually

0:40:44.800,0:40:49.760
very good it was

0:40:46.480,0:40:51.920
it was um about two hours long it wasn’t

0:40:49.760,0:40:53.440
incredibly long but very well done they

0:40:51.920,0:40:55.200
showed footage they showed time with the

0:40:53.440,0:40:56.640
women and it was it was

0:40:55.200,0:40:58.800
it’s something that

0:40:56.640,0:41:01.200
would serve as an inspiration to anybody

0:40:58.800,0:41:04.319
not just other women but

0:41:01.200,0:41:06.630
mercury 13 on netflix we’ll be right

0:41:04.319,0:41:09.640
back

0:41:06.630,0:41:11.119
[Applause]

0:41:09.640,0:41:13.680
[Music]

0:41:11.119,0:41:15.680
so what else do we have we have some

0:41:13.680,0:41:18.800
afterthoughts after thoughts

0:41:15.680,0:41:23.880
what are we talking about today so this

0:41:18.800,0:41:26.400
coming weekend in oaks pennsylvania is

0:41:23.880,0:41:29.119
retro car

0:41:26.400,0:41:32.319
so the show is on saturday and sunday

0:41:29.119,0:41:34.079
the saturday times are from 10 to 5 30

0:41:32.319,0:41:37.440
and tickets are twenty dollars at the

0:41:34.079,0:41:39.599
door sunday is from nine to four and

0:41:37.440,0:41:42.720
tickets are fifteen dollars at the door

0:41:39.599,0:41:44.800
and kids 12 and under are free and again

0:41:42.720,0:41:48.400
it’s at the greater philadelphia expo

0:41:44.800,0:41:49.520
center in oaks pennsylvania also this

0:41:48.400,0:41:53.520
weekend

0:41:49.520,0:41:55.520
is monster mania 47 in hunt valley

0:41:53.520,0:41:56.960
maryland um

0:41:55.520,0:41:58.319
a whole lot of

0:41:56.960,0:41:59.520
celebrities are going to be there

0:41:58.319,0:42:02.000
actually a

0:41:59.520,0:42:04.640
a boatload of some really good people so

0:42:02.000,0:42:08.800
if you’re in the area definitely

0:42:04.640,0:42:11.839
uh a show to to go and see um then uh

0:42:08.800,0:42:14.800
october 2nd through 3rd back at the

0:42:11.839,0:42:16.400
greater greater philadelphia expo center

0:42:14.800,0:42:17.839
is brickfest

0:42:16.400,0:42:21.440
so if you are a

0:42:17.839,0:42:24.160
lego aficionado this is definitely the

0:42:21.440,0:42:28.160
show for you and then of course we have

0:42:24.160,0:42:30.720
the two toy shows uh in october as well

0:42:28.160,0:42:33.359
october 9th and 10th

0:42:30.720,0:42:36.960
we have the delaware train show on

0:42:33.359,0:42:40.319
saturday and on sunday is the october

0:42:36.960,0:42:42.800
toy show oktoberfest toy show both

0:42:40.319,0:42:45.280
housed at the nurse shrine center in

0:42:42.800,0:42:47.440
newcastle delaware

0:42:45.280,0:42:48.319
unfortunately we

0:42:47.440,0:42:50.880
had

0:42:48.319,0:42:53.680
months ago had talked about wizard world

0:42:50.880,0:42:56.319
philadelphia um

0:42:53.680,0:42:58.720
coming to the greater philadelphia expo

0:42:56.319,0:43:01.280
center sometime in november

0:42:58.720,0:43:03.119
now if you try and look it up there’s no

0:43:01.280,0:43:04.560
information about it

0:43:03.119,0:43:06.720
if you go to

0:43:04.560,0:43:10.000
the greater philadelphia expo center

0:43:06.720,0:43:13.680
website they don’t even list it and

0:43:10.000,0:43:16.160
now it almost has it if you do a google

0:43:13.680,0:43:18.000
search it it gives you dates for the

0:43:16.160,0:43:20.640
philadelphia convention center which is

0:43:18.000,0:43:23.119
where it has always been before but when

0:43:20.640,0:43:25.599
you go to the convention website they

0:43:23.119,0:43:28.960
don’t have anything listed so

0:43:25.599,0:43:30.400
i’m guessing wizard world philadelphia

0:43:28.960,0:43:32.560
which now

0:43:30.400,0:43:33.440
became that other company

0:43:32.560,0:43:35.440
uh

0:43:33.440,0:43:37.359
probably isn’t gonna happen this year

0:43:35.440,0:43:38.720
unfortunately so that’s what it looks

0:43:37.359,0:43:39.920
like we’ll keep checking though and if

0:43:38.720,0:43:42.400
we find anything yeah if we find

0:43:39.920,0:43:45.119
anything out uh it does look like

0:43:42.400,0:43:47.520
wizard world chicago is is going on and

0:43:45.119,0:43:50.240
i think that’s going to be the last

0:43:47.520,0:43:52.160
event that wizard world sanctions that’s

0:43:50.240,0:43:55.520
what they said you know when we had the

0:43:52.160,0:43:57.760
article right so no no information about

0:43:55.520,0:44:01.599
anything else so yep

0:43:57.760,0:44:03.920
so before we do go i would uh invite our

0:44:01.599,0:44:05.839
