[SEGMENT 1: Disney Detective] (8-12 minutes)
- Disneyland Tries To Explain What Happened To The People Who Waited Hours And Hours For Theme Park Tickets
- https://www.cinemablend.com/news/2566006/disneyland-explanation-what-happened-people-waited-hours-theme-park-tickets-california-reopening
- https://bit.ly/3sBQuo8
- After over a year without the faith, trust and pixie dust of Southern California’s Disneyland Resort, the theme park is finally reopening to the public later this month. This week, tickets and reservations officially became available to California residents but claiming their spots has been a long waiting game. Disney has responded to the situation as the delay to buy tickets goes from the slow slog to reach Space Mountain to as fast as grabbing a seat on The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh ride.
- Disneyland opened its website to ticket sales on Thursday morning to a flood of traffic that had people staring at a page saying “the wait is almost over” and then proceeding to wait hours upon hours to book their reservations to return to the California theme park. A Disney spokesperson provided a response to Deadline acknowledging the situation:
- We are experiencing high demand, given the historic nature of the Disneyland Resort’s reopening. To deliver a strong guest experience, we are deliberately pulsing guests through the system and, therefore, wait times may be several hours or more depending on when you joined the queue. We still have plenty of reservation availability and we plan to keep the system open through the night to accommodate the demand.
- Following the Thursday rush, reopening day on April 30 is reportedly “sold out,” but there are plenty of tickets and reservations to be claimed for the next three months at the parks now that it’s the weekend. According to the spokesperson, the frustration on the website was done “deliberately” to file customers in and out through its system in an organized manner.
- Real talk though: was anyone really expecting to stroll on over to the website without wait times considering Disneyland’s historic closures during the COVID-19 pandemic? Not to mention the fact that the theme park will need to operate between 15-25% capacity for now to accommodate state health guidelines. It was an unprecedented day to buy tickets for Disneyland, and the waiting was inevitable.
- Tons of Disney fans ended their extended wait times with tickets in hand and a reservation for the Anaheim theme park for the first time since the park was forced to close in March 2020. It’s been a long road for Disneyland to get to this point, following a lot of friction between the Walt Disney Parks and California’s administration. The Golden State is now in a more stable place with 52% of California adults partially vaccinated and COVID cases on the downturn.
- When Disneyland opens in a couple weeks, it will follow COVID-19 health guidelines, including face mask policies, and it will include extended closures of fan-favorite rides. The California park is also getting ready for the grand opening of its Avengers Campus on June 4. Disneyland tickets and reservations are still available for California residents. It’s certainly an exciting time to be a Disney fan, and it’s clear a lot of fans missed the park’s magic throughout a long and difficult year.
- Disneyland releases sneak peek of Haunted Mansion ride changes
- https://www.sfgate.com/disneyland/article/2021-04-disneyland-haunted-mansion-renovation-new-16112424.php?fbclid=IwAR0hn0C272-GULxd9NMwoH1wLGa5RlkVB5Rfgy2gJCcFNPt1kKDtR7clp8c

- There are sure to be many small changes at Disneyland when the theme park reopens its gates on April 30. Few are as hotly anticipated as the renovation at Haunted Mansion, one of the park’s oldest and most-loved rides.
- Riders before the pandemic may recall some spots looking a little worse for wear (by Disney’s high standards, at least). In fact, the entire attraction was already shuttered before the March shutdown due to planned upgrades. Now, we’ve gotten a look at some of them.
- Walking up to the estate, guests in the queue will be greeted by new landscaping among the tombstones for “dearly departed pets.” Through the air-conditioned entrance and into the elevator, new, freshly cobwebbed curtains drape the rooms, along with new carpet and wallpaper.
- The biggest change — and fun callback for long-time fans — is the return of the “April to December” portrait. The painting, which depicts a pretty young woman suddenly aging into a cartoonish hag, was one of the original enchanted portraits hanging in the hallway that connects the elevator to the ride vehicles. She was removed in 2005 amid speculation that her special effect didn’t interface well with the digital technology used in Disneyland’s modern moving portraits.
- Now, she’s back with new special effects. You’ll have to be more eagle-eyed, though, as she didn’t rejoin her compatriots in the Portrait Corridor. Her ghostly visage now graces the doom buggy loading area.
- A video released by Disney also teases a new one-eyed cat statue, although its placement isn’t revealed. The eye turns laser-beam red in one clip. The video also seems to indicate there may be more changes in the bride’s room and the graveyard scene.
- All in all, it’s a good crop of fixes for a beloved ride in need of a little TLC. And thankfully, nothing about its original spookiness has been removed, unlike the disaster over in Fantasyland that is Snow White’s no-longer-scary adventures.

[SEGMENT 2: Tales from the Edge of the Galaxy] (8-12 minutes)
- Star Wars: Darth Vader actor David Prowse’s items up for auction
- https://www.theguardian.com/film/2021/apr/19/star-wars-darth-vader-actor-david-prowses-items-up-for-auction
- https://bit.ly/3guP5xh
- The lots up for auction include an iconic movie script (minus a crucial plot spoiler), a mask that has terrified generations of sci-fi fans and even a chunk of a beloved starship.
- More than 700 possessions of David Prowse, the Bristolian who played Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy, are being sold off in his home city following his death aged 85 last year.
- Included is his The Empire Strikes Back script, which has key lines removed to keep Vader’s relationship with Luke Skywalker secret, a piece of the Millennium Falcon’s cockpit and a Vader mask Prowse is believed to have used for appearances at conventions and events.
- Appropriately, the collection will be sold on 4 May – a nod to the franchise’s famous line: “May the force be with you.”
- Auctioneer Andrew Stowe, of East Bristol Auctions, said: ‘‘When I was rummaging through the boxes from his house, every now and then I’d come across something special and it would send my brain racing.
- “In one box I’d find his Empire Strikes Back script, in another I found an actual piece of the Millennium Falcon, then a little deeper down I’d find a letter from Peter Cushing.”
- The Empire Strikes Back script is expected to sell for thousands. ‘‘My spine tingled when I first saw the script,” said Stowe. But the line revealing Vader and Luke’s relationship does not feature.
- Stowe said: “The reveal – perhaps the most recognised moment in cinema history – was kept a big secret from most of the cast. As Prowse’s lines would be over-dubbed by James Earl Jones he [Prowse] wasn’t privy to the secret, so instead, he was given alternate dialogue which is considerably less dramatic. But that in itself makes this a unique piece of history.’’
- A percentage of proceeds from the auction will go to Alzheimer’s Research UK.
- Disney Finally Settling Controversy With Iconic ‘Star Wars’ Writer
- https://insidethemagic.net/2021/04/disney-alan-dean-foster-controversy-rwb1/?fbclid=IwAR0lhaPox64qM2TpW2JTKWHhQg28kJC-jYe8GdsFPE_dzGZ4kUqLjvOe_-E
- https://bit.ly/32FVnSo
- There are two kinds of Star Wars fans — those who have seen the Skywalker Saga, and those who have watched every Star Wars movie, seen every Star Wars animated series, and read every scrap of Star Wars novelization in existence.
- If you fall into the latter category, there’s little doubt that you’re familiar with Star Wars writer, Alan Dean Foster, and his ongoing controversy with The Walt Disney Company. Last November, Foster published a letter via the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA). It read, in part:
- When you [Disney] purchased Lucasfilm you acquired the rights to some books I wrote. STAR WARS, the novelization of the very first film. SPLINTER OF THE MIND’S EYE, the first sequel novel. You owe me royalties on these books. You stopped paying them.
- When you purchased 20th Century Fox [now 20th Century Studios], you eventually acquired the rights to other books I had written. The novelizations of ALIEN, ALIENS, and ALIEN 3. You’ve never paid royalties on any of these, or even issued royalty statements for them.
- Foster also wrote several Star Trek novels that are not under The Walt Disney Company banner and, therefore, are not part of this royalty payment issue.
- The original letter continued:
- You continue to ignore requests from my agents. You continue to ignore queries from SFWA, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. You continue to ignore my legal representatives. I know this is what gargantuan corporations often do. Ignore requests and inquiries hoping the petitioner will simply go away. Or possibly die. But I’m still here, and I am still entitled to what you owe me. Including not to be ignored, just because I’m only one lone writer. How many other writers and artists out there are you similarly ignoring?
- My wife has serious medical issues and in 2016 I was diagnosed with an advanced form of cancer. We could use the money. Not charity: just what I’m owed. I’ve always loved Disney. The films, the parks, growing up with the Disneyland TV show. I don’t think Unca [sic]Walt would approve of how you are currently treating me. Maybe someone in the right position just hasn’t received the word, though after all these months of ignored requests and queries, that’s hard to countenance. Or as a guy named Bob Iger said….
- “The way you do anything is the way you do everything.”
- Now, it seems that the situation might be coming to an end. The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, along with Foster’s own legal team, have seemingly come close to reaching a settlement that will end this Star Wars royalty controversy once and for all.
- On April 1, 2021, Foster shared on his personal blog, “The irritating imbroglio with Disney, which you may have read about, is moving rapidly toward a mutually agreeable conclusion. A formal statement will be forthcoming.”
- At this time, Foster is not writing for Disney or Lucasfilm in any capacity.

[SEGMENT 3: Entertainment News] (8-12 minutes)
- Lizzo’s ‘drunk DM’ to Chris Evans turned out … pretty great, actually
- https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/music/story/2021-04-19/lizzo-chris-evans-dm-instagram-tiktok
- https://lat.ms/3tJY5Cv
- Somebody come get Lizzo. I think she got lost in Chris Evans’ DMs.
- On Saturday, the “Juice” hitmaker posted a relatable TikTok video revealing a direct Instagram message she sent the “Captain America” actor and captioned it “Don’t drink and DM, kids.” A day later, the plot thickened when Evans responded.
- Lizzo’s initial TikTok includes a screenshot of the direct message that started it all with no words and three emojis: a gust of wind, a woman playing basketball and a basketball. (Fans immediately deciphered the emoji sequence to mean the pop musician was drunkenly “shooting her shot” at a potential relationship with Evans. We’ve all been there.)
- While presenting the screengrabbed evidence, Lizzo lip-syncs to original TikTok audio recorded by @therealtati saying, “The reason I’m upset about this one is because I know I’m not gonna be able to marry him. And honestly, it hurts me to the core, because damn, papi, he a rare breed. No comparing.”
- Fast forward to Sunday, when Lizzo updated her TikTok saga with a screenshot of Evans’ response:
- “No shame in a drunk DM,” he replied, along with a wink-and-kiss emoji (!!!), “god knows I’ve done worse on this app lol.”
- (We’re pretty sure he’s referring to that whole leaking-his-own-nude-photo scandal from last year. And yes, that’s definitely worse.)
- Of course, the flirty exchange has prompted many to manifest a romance between Evans and Lizzo on social media — especially after eagle-eyed Twitter users noticed that the “Knives Out” star now follows the Grammy winner on Instagram.
- “now when i get invited to chris evans and lizzo wedding,” one person tweeted along with a photo of Evans’ Marvel costar, Anthony Mackie, serving some pointed side-eye.
- “I really want Lizzo and Chris Evans to date,” wrote another. “Mr and Mrs America.”
- Could this be the birth of a new celebrity power couple? Anything is possible, according to a quick Google search confirming that both Evans and Lizzo are currently unattached. Moral of the story: Shoot your shot, ladies. Shoot your shot.
- Superman Comics Will No Longer Be Published By DC, Replaced
- https://www.giantfreakinrobot.com/cltr/superman-cancelled.html
- https://bit.ly/3v9RtgU
- Superman will always be a cornerstone character in DC Comics but the character has had to go through a number of different permutations and titles over the many decades. There have been untold numbers of new versions, reboots, and alternate takes on the character but there has usually been a comic book run that simply carried the name “Superman.” But it looks like DC is planning to end that tradition in a pretty significant way.
- As reported by CBR, DC is cancelling their Superman title and replacing it with a new title called Superman: Son of Kal-El. The story will no longer focus on Clark Kent but will be centered around his son, Jonathan Kent, who has taken up the mantle in his father’s place. The first issue has revealed its cover and it is a very knowing bit of acknowledgment to the history of the character.
- That cover seems strangely old-fashioned for the modern landscape of comic book artwork. And there is a very good reason for that. It is a direct reference to the very first issue of the Superman title (not the Action Comics one? From 1939:
- It is unclear if the plan is to permanently retire the specific Superman title with the Son of Kal-El one or if this will only be a temporary filler. This has certainly happened in the past when a certain title was put on extended hiatus and then was revived years later to a bunch of fanfare. The directive here is clearly to give more focus to the Jonathan Kent character and position him as a new focal figure in the DC universe. Will it work or will fans quickly yearn for the classic version of the character and his comic book title?
- Jonathan Kent is part of a larger directive at DC Comics to introduce and focus on a new generation of heroes taking on the mantles of the classic DC superheroes. Jonathan Kent was originally introduced as a new Superboy but will now be upgraded to the grander title of Superman. This is in addition to a slew of new heroes that were part of the Future State storyline that posited a possible future for the DC universe of heroes. Whether or not some of these takes on the characters will become permanent installations remains to be seen. It will probably be determined by their eventual popularity.
- If we were willing to bet some money, we would wager that the classic Superman title will return one day. Comic book mythology is notorious for having various reboots after a decade or so and that will probably happen again with the DC stable of characters. Whenever that time comes around again, we have to imagine that the Superman title will get a shiny new take. Until then, let’s enjoy the adventures of Jonathan Kent and see what he can bring to the legacy of the Man of Steel.

- The Evermoor Chronicles
- https://www.disneyplus.com/series/the-evermoor-chronicles/5sA0bk5gYBqE
- https://bit.ly/3sLYB1o
- The Evermoor Chronicles is a British television series that aired on Disney Channel.
- On 19 March 2015, the miniseries was picked up for a full series of a further 20 episodes and was confirmed under the new title of The Evermoor Chronicles as a continuation to the original.
- It has been inferred that the series has either been cancelled, or has ended without any news as there are currently no plans to make a third series, as of February 2020.
- The miniseries and the first series star Tara Crossley, an American teen who moves from the United States to an English village called Evermoor. As her mother and stepfather unpack at their new home, Tara, her brother, and her British step-siblings adjust to their new life.
- The second series stars Bella as she tries to apply for fashion school in London. When Davorin, an evil man who is trapped inside a magic mirror, breaks Ludo into splinters, Bella and her friends must find Ludo’s splinters before wish making chaos begins across the village of Evermoor.

- The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
- Disney+
- https://disneyplusoriginals.disney.com/show/the-falcon-and-the-winter-soldier
- https://bit.ly/3gsR70Q
- Following the events of “Avengers: Endgame,” Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) team up in a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience—in Marvel Studios’ “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.”
- The Falcon And The Winter Soldier has tried to explore a lot of things:
- The fallout from Thanos removing half of all life from the universe, as well as the economic and social impact of bringing everyone back five years later;
- The U.S. government’s history with institutionalized racism and how little things have changed over the years;
- And the smaller-stakes stories of Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson trying to find a new place in the world after temporarily giving their lives to save it.
- The series has primarily focused on a guy who hasn’t physically appeared in the show: Steve Rogers, the real Captain America, whose abilities and achievements are so legendary they cast a star-spangled shadow over everyone and everything.
- This is a show that seems obsessed with Captain America’s legacy, with unpacking what he means to this world and what his loss means to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
- But this season seemed so confused by what Captain America’s legacy even is?
- Is it the superhero name “Captain America,” which the U.S. government bestowed on some other guy as if it’s a title they can pass around like a championship wrestling title?
- Is it the vibranium shield, the responsibility of which was so great for Sam Wilson that he chose to put it in a museum rather than risk failing to live up to what it represents?
- Or is it the Super Soldier Serum, which could (and seemingly does) create an army of invincible terrorists if put into the wrong hands?
- It’s none of those things, exactly, but The Falcon And The Winter Soldier has struggled to land on an answer of its own, even losing sight of the guy who originally held the shield.
- I’ve hesitated to recommend this show for the majority of the season because it took more than half the short 6 episode season for the show to really give me something to hold on to
- Up until episode 4 the series was a throw away series with little impact on the MCU, not much character development of the key players and very little in the way of emotional investment in anything going on with the series
- Still, eagerly anticipating episode 6 I’m not really sure how I feel about this show
- Part of me wants to watch it because it’s MCU and I like the characters
- Part of me is disinterested in the almost forced geopolitical aspects of the plot and the heavy emphasis on racial tensions in the MCU that have never been a plot point before.
- I’ll stick it out and watch the last episode to see where we end up. After sitting through five episodes already that’s the least I can do. But I feel no emotional attachment or investment whatsoever in this show. And I haven’t felt that way about an MCU project since the first two Thor movies.
- I can’t help but feel like they missed the mark on this one, but maybe episode six will redeem the series for me…we’ll see tomorrow.

ready sure here we go
0:03:40.330,0:03:47.680
[Music]
0:03:44.239,0:03:50.480
go for disney detective so it seems last
0:03:47.680,0:03:51.440
thursday tickets became finally became
0:03:50.480,0:03:54.959
available
0:03:51.440,0:03:57.920
for disneyland resort out in california
0:03:54.959,0:03:59.599
and obviously you know there was a lot
0:03:57.920,0:04:00.720
of hubbub about it because people had
0:03:59.599,0:04:03.760
been waiting to
0:04:00.720,0:04:05.920
to get tickets because in order to
0:04:03.760,0:04:06.879
um go to the park you had to get a
0:04:05.920,0:04:10.400
reservation
0:04:06.879,0:04:11.920
and get a ticket and obviously
0:04:10.400,0:04:14.480
knowing that the park is only going to
0:04:11.920,0:04:18.000
be opening about 15
0:04:14.480,0:04:20.720
to 25 percent tickets were gonna
0:04:18.000,0:04:22.960
obviously be going kind of quickly but
0:04:20.720,0:04:25.759
it seems that
0:04:22.960,0:04:26.160
people were waiting almost eight hours
0:04:25.759,0:04:28.639
in
0:04:26.160,0:04:30.880
a virtual queue fortunately nobody was
0:04:28.639,0:04:34.960
actually at the park everybody was
0:04:30.880,0:04:37.520
waiting uh online and
0:04:34.960,0:04:38.720
you know they were kind of like why is
0:04:37.520,0:04:42.160
it taking so long
0:04:38.720,0:04:45.120
so it seems that um that
0:04:42.160,0:04:47.280
the you know when you logged on you got
0:04:45.120,0:04:48.320
to a page that said the wait is almost
0:04:47.280,0:04:51.120
over
0:04:48.320,0:04:51.840
and then it just became hours upon hours
0:04:51.120,0:04:54.840
of
0:04:51.840,0:04:57.280
a weight uh beyond that uh a disney
0:04:54.840,0:04:58.000
spokesperson provided a response to
0:04:57.280,0:05:00.720
deadline
0:04:58.000,0:05:02.639
acknowledging the situation and said we
0:05:00.720,0:05:04.639
are experiencing high demand
0:05:02.639,0:05:06.160
given the historic nature of the
0:05:04.639,0:05:09.280
disneyland resort
0:05:06.160,0:05:11.840
uh reopening to deliver a strong guest
0:05:09.280,0:05:14.960
experience we are deliberately
0:05:11.840,0:05:15.600
plussing or pulsing guests through the
0:05:14.960,0:05:18.240
system
0:05:15.600,0:05:20.800
and therefore wait times maybe several
0:05:18.240,0:05:22.000
hours or more depending on when you join
0:05:20.800,0:05:23.520
the queue
0:05:22.000,0:05:26.320
we still have plenty of reservations
0:05:23.520,0:05:28.479
available and we plan to keep the system
0:05:26.320,0:05:29.600
open through the night to accommodate
0:05:28.479,0:05:31.680
the demand
0:05:29.600,0:05:32.639
well obviously after the rush on
0:05:31.680,0:05:36.080
thursday
0:05:32.639,0:05:38.479
the reopening day of april 30th had been
0:05:36.080,0:05:40.320
you know completely sold out but there
0:05:38.479,0:05:41.120
are plenty of tickets and reservations
0:05:40.320,0:05:44.160
available
0:05:41.120,0:05:45.759
for up to the next three parks um you
0:05:44.160,0:05:47.520
know now that the the rest of the
0:05:45.759,0:05:50.400
weekend had gone through
0:05:47.520,0:05:51.360
um you know they basically said that you
0:05:50.400,0:05:53.840
know
0:05:51.360,0:05:55.440
even though the spokesperson you know
0:05:53.840,0:05:57.039
talked about the frustration saying that
0:05:55.440,0:05:59.520
it was done deliberately
0:05:57.039,0:06:00.319
to basically you know file the customers
0:05:59.520,0:06:03.120
in and out
0:06:00.319,0:06:04.479
through its system in an organized
0:06:03.120,0:06:07.039
manner
0:06:04.479,0:06:08.080
you know basically most people kind of
0:06:07.039,0:06:10.400
figured okay
0:06:08.080,0:06:11.120
it’s it’s gonna be a while to to get a
0:06:10.400,0:06:13.280
ticket
0:06:11.120,0:06:14.240
um you know you figure when you go
0:06:13.280,0:06:17.039
online to
0:06:14.240,0:06:18.639
you know get concert tickets uh you know
0:06:17.039,0:06:19.039
sometimes it can take a while for a
0:06:18.639,0:06:22.240
queue
0:06:19.039,0:06:24.960
so obviously tons of people were
0:06:22.240,0:06:25.759
going through this process i don’t know
0:06:24.960,0:06:28.319
i
0:06:25.759,0:06:31.600
never spoke with anybody or i don’t know
0:06:28.319,0:06:34.160
anybody that actually got tickets
0:06:31.600,0:06:35.840
because again they were saying that only
0:06:34.160,0:06:36.720
california residents were going to be
0:06:35.840,0:06:39.360
able
0:06:36.720,0:06:40.400
uh to get tickets uh for the first
0:06:39.360,0:06:41.600
couple of months
0:06:40.400,0:06:43.680
so i don’t know if maybe there was some
0:06:41.600,0:06:47.039
sort of process in place
0:06:43.680,0:06:48.720
where you had to prove that you know you
0:06:47.039,0:06:50.160
lived in the state so maybe that’s what
0:06:48.720,0:06:53.520
was taking so long
0:06:50.160,0:06:55.680
um you know but obviously
0:06:53.520,0:06:56.880
if you wanted to wait and you know
0:06:55.680,0:06:58.560
hopefully you were
0:06:56.880,0:07:00.479
waiting at home you know on your
0:06:58.560,0:07:03.599
computer and you know doing
0:07:00.479,0:07:04.560
other things while you were waiting for
0:07:03.599,0:07:08.479
it to finally
0:07:04.560,0:07:11.199
you know go through um you know
0:07:08.479,0:07:12.160
good for you if you got tickets it’s all
0:07:11.199,0:07:15.840
all week
0:07:12.160,0:07:16.880
and this is this this is typical disney
0:07:15.840,0:07:18.560
no it’s a line
0:07:16.880,0:07:20.319
so it must be a good thing right that’s
0:07:18.560,0:07:21.360
all waiting the line yeah i wonder if
0:07:20.319,0:07:23.120
you know they probably should have
0:07:21.360,0:07:25.280
showed some like movies or something
0:07:23.120,0:07:26.319
which is what you know disney does is
0:07:25.280,0:07:28.000
they take
0:07:26.319,0:07:29.440
instead of doing something about their
0:07:28.000,0:07:30.000
lines they turn their lines into an
0:07:29.440,0:07:31.280
attraction
0:07:30.000,0:07:33.520
right into entertainment if you didn’t
0:07:31.280,0:07:36.240
get like a little mini game or a movie
0:07:33.520,0:07:38.160
like trivia or something we’re gonna
0:07:36.240,0:07:39.919
give you like a disney plus
0:07:38.160,0:07:41.440
preview while you wait and watch these
0:07:39.919,0:07:41.919
movies right that would have been kind
0:07:41.440,0:07:44.879
of cool
0:07:41.919,0:07:45.680
who knows yeah so it’s kind of funny to
0:07:44.879,0:07:47.520
find out that
0:07:45.680,0:07:49.680
it was deliberate that they were right
0:07:47.520,0:07:51.520
right it wasn’t just oh
0:07:49.680,0:07:53.120
we you know we had more people than
0:07:51.520,0:07:55.360
expect you know because that’s what you
0:07:53.120,0:07:57.360
kind of were expecting you know maybe
0:07:55.360,0:07:59.120
their system just couldn’t handle it now
0:07:57.360,0:08:00.960
we intentionally
0:07:59.120,0:08:03.199
well because you figure after the launch
0:08:00.960,0:08:04.960
of disney plus and they couldn’t handle
0:08:03.199,0:08:06.400
right subscriber rate you kind of
0:08:04.960,0:08:08.080
figured that they’ve got a track record
0:08:06.400,0:08:10.879
of under planning for these things yeah
0:08:08.080,0:08:11.759
yeah so so yeah glad we didn’t wait for
0:08:10.879,0:08:15.520
that one
0:08:11.759,0:08:17.840
exactly tell us about
0:08:15.520,0:08:19.199
the haunted mansion ride changes so
0:08:17.840,0:08:21.840
disneyland with
0:08:19.199,0:08:22.560
you know obviously the park being shut
0:08:21.840,0:08:25.199
down for
0:08:22.560,0:08:26.639
for over a year they took advantage of
0:08:25.199,0:08:28.720
this time and
0:08:26.639,0:08:30.240
you know did some renovation some of
0:08:28.720,0:08:33.200
them were planned
0:08:30.240,0:08:33.760
uh before the actual shutdown and some
0:08:33.200,0:08:36.719
of them
0:08:33.760,0:08:37.200
obviously uh they ended up finding the
0:08:36.719,0:08:39.599
time
0:08:37.200,0:08:41.120
you know with nobody being in the park
0:08:39.599,0:08:44.399
so
0:08:41.120,0:08:45.920
last week they disney parks had actually
0:08:44.399,0:08:48.320
released a video
0:08:45.920,0:08:49.279
showing some of the changes that have
0:08:48.320,0:08:52.480
been made
0:08:49.279,0:08:55.279
to the haunted mansion so
0:08:52.480,0:08:57.360
what before the actual shutdown in march
0:08:55.279,0:08:58.560
the haunted mansion was actually already
0:08:57.360,0:09:01.040
shut down because
0:08:58.560,0:09:02.080
again a lot of these were were already
0:09:01.040,0:09:05.360
planned
0:09:02.080,0:09:06.399
um rehabs so they took the time to kind
0:09:05.360,0:09:08.800
of
0:09:06.399,0:09:09.920
you know finish up them and also change
0:09:08.800,0:09:13.120
a little bit more
0:09:09.920,0:09:15.120
uh so in uh the video they show
0:09:13.120,0:09:16.399
um that when you’re gonna be walking up
0:09:15.120,0:09:18.080
to the mansion
0:09:16.399,0:09:20.000
um and you’re going through the queue
0:09:18.080,0:09:23.519
there’s some new landscaping
0:09:20.000,0:09:24.399
with some new tombstones uh of dearly
0:09:23.519,0:09:28.800
departed
0:09:24.399,0:09:31.360
uh pest pets excuse me pests
0:09:28.800,0:09:32.480
you’re such a pest um and then as you’re
0:09:31.360,0:09:36.399
walking through the
0:09:32.480,0:09:37.200
entrance um that they have a freshly
0:09:36.399,0:09:40.800
cobwebbed
0:09:37.200,0:09:43.200
curtain uh area with some new rugs and
0:09:40.800,0:09:44.160
some new wallpaper um but one of the
0:09:43.200,0:09:47.440
biggest changes
0:09:44.160,0:09:49.760
is kind of a callback for longtime fans
0:09:47.440,0:09:51.760
and it’s the return of the april to
0:09:49.760,0:09:53.760
december portrait
0:09:51.760,0:09:56.480
the painting which depicts a very pretty
0:09:53.760,0:09:57.839
young woman suddenly aging into a
0:09:56.480,0:10:00.240
cartoonish hag
0:09:57.839,0:10:01.600
was one of the original enhanced
0:10:00.240,0:10:02.480
portraits that was hanging in the
0:10:01.600,0:10:05.519
hallway
0:10:02.480,0:10:06.720
that connects the elevator to the ride
0:10:05.519,0:10:10.240
vehicles
0:10:06.720,0:10:14.800
she was actually removed in 2005
0:10:10.240,0:10:17.360
or yeah 2005 because her special effects
0:10:14.800,0:10:19.680
didn’t really interface well with the
0:10:17.360,0:10:20.640
digital technology that disneyland was
0:10:19.680,0:10:23.680
using
0:10:20.640,0:10:25.760
on more modern portraits but now she’s
0:10:23.680,0:10:30.000
back and she has some new effects
0:10:25.760,0:10:32.079
um so you’ll have to be more ego eyed
0:10:30.000,0:10:33.839
as you you know walk through because
0:10:32.079,0:10:35.680
she’s actually kind of
0:10:33.839,0:10:37.200
off on her own where all the other
0:10:35.680,0:10:38.880
portraits are together so they kind of
0:10:37.200,0:10:41.920
gave her a place of honor
0:10:38.880,0:10:45.920
uh as you’re walking uh through
0:10:41.920,0:10:47.519
uh to get to the uh the dune buggy area
0:10:45.920,0:10:49.760
another thing that was kind of cool was
0:10:47.519,0:10:51.200
the video that was released by disney
0:10:49.760,0:10:55.040
also teased
0:10:51.200,0:10:56.640
with a new one-eyed cat statue
0:10:55.040,0:10:59.200
and although the placement wasn’t
0:10:56.640,0:11:04.000
revealed you don’t know where the cat
0:10:59.200,0:11:05.839
is its eye turns into a laser beam
0:11:04.000,0:11:07.519
hats with freaking laser beams cats with
0:11:05.839,0:11:10.880
freaking laser beams
0:11:07.519,0:11:12.720
um so and the video also seemed to
0:11:10.880,0:11:15.120
indicate that there were more changes
0:11:12.720,0:11:15.839
in the bride’s room and in the graveyard
0:11:15.120,0:11:18.959
scene
0:11:15.839,0:11:22.079
um so all in all it sounds like you know
0:11:18.959,0:11:24.240
the the ride got some tlc that it needed
0:11:22.079,0:11:26.079
and that there’s gonna be you know some
0:11:24.240,0:11:28.160
other little hidden gems
0:11:26.079,0:11:29.279
that we’ll probably hear about once the
0:11:28.160,0:11:31.200
park opens and
0:11:29.279,0:11:32.720
you know different people you know
0:11:31.200,0:11:35.360
youtube
0:11:32.720,0:11:37.680
you know uh disney people you know start
0:11:35.360,0:11:41.360
posting them and talking about them so
0:11:37.680,0:11:44.480
so as a dedicated um
0:11:41.360,0:11:47.040
fanatical fan of the haunted mansion
0:11:44.480,0:11:48.240
who me how do you feel about when they
0:11:47.040,0:11:51.279
do changes
0:11:48.240,0:11:54.560
like this i i like them
0:11:51.279,0:11:57.120
i like when they kind of go in and and
0:11:54.560,0:12:00.399
do the enhancements and kind of
0:11:57.120,0:12:04.240
um you know tweak things and
0:12:00.399,0:12:07.200
and add new things um
0:12:04.240,0:12:08.000
you know the hatbox ghost that’s one
0:12:07.200,0:12:11.680
that
0:12:08.000,0:12:16.000
for years haunted mansion fans
0:12:11.680,0:12:19.200
wanted you know to come back and to see
0:12:16.000,0:12:21.839
it finally return was like yay
0:12:19.200,0:12:23.120
so you’re not some disney purist where
0:12:21.839,0:12:24.639
the ride is what
0:12:23.120,0:12:26.480
walt envisioned it and it shouldn’t
0:12:24.639,0:12:27.120
change well and that’s the thing is
0:12:26.480,0:12:30.160
because
0:12:27.120,0:12:32.160
and i hope they never
0:12:30.160,0:12:33.600
completely change it i hope there’s
0:12:32.160,0:12:35.519
always aspects
0:12:33.600,0:12:36.720
and i like how they’re also bringing
0:12:35.519,0:12:38.320
back
0:12:36.720,0:12:40.320
some of the original aspects because if
0:12:38.320,0:12:42.160
you look at what you know we’ve talked
0:12:40.320,0:12:44.240
about this you know many times before
0:12:42.160,0:12:46.800
with other haunted mansion articles
0:12:44.240,0:12:48.160
if you look at what the original concept
0:12:46.800,0:12:51.600
of the ride was
0:12:48.160,0:12:53.760
there’s so much that they never use
0:12:51.600,0:12:54.880
they you know they kind of took this and
0:12:53.760,0:12:57.440
this so
0:12:54.880,0:12:58.240
technically like every 50 years they
0:12:57.440,0:13:01.519
could
0:12:58.240,0:13:05.040
redo the ride with all you know make it
0:13:01.519,0:13:06.560
almost all new just from the original
0:13:05.040,0:13:09.760
ideas
0:13:06.560,0:13:11.519
so i’m okay with you know
0:13:09.760,0:13:14.399
with you making the enhancements and
0:13:11.519,0:13:18.880
stuff um you know one of the things that
0:13:14.399,0:13:22.480
um with uh with disneyland
0:13:18.880,0:13:26.399
they also redid snow white’s adventure
0:13:22.480,0:13:28.639
they took out like all the scariness
0:13:26.399,0:13:29.519
you know that was part of it so a lot of
0:13:28.639,0:13:32.000
people are all
0:13:29.519,0:13:34.079
kind of pissed off you know at disney
0:13:32.000,0:13:37.120
for completely changing
0:13:34.079,0:13:38.959
you know that so
0:13:37.120,0:13:40.320
i don’t think you know and i think the
0:13:38.959,0:13:42.399
haunted mansion is one of those rides
0:13:40.320,0:13:46.560
where i don’t think they’ll ever
0:13:42.399,0:13:49.040
completely wipe it and do something
0:13:46.560,0:13:51.120
different but for them to go in and you
0:13:49.040,0:13:52.720
know enhance the technologies because
0:13:51.120,0:13:53.920
you know some of the technologies are
0:13:52.720,0:13:56.240
still the original
0:13:53.920,0:13:57.199
yeah the peppers goes the peppers ghost
0:13:56.240,0:13:59.199
but how do you
0:13:57.199,0:14:01.519
redo peppers ghosts like peppers ghost
0:13:59.199,0:14:04.240
has been around for hundreds of years
0:14:01.519,0:14:05.440
they’ve never really been able to well
0:14:04.240,0:14:07.680
you could do holograms
0:14:05.440,0:14:08.959
holograms right like so i could see them
0:14:07.680,0:14:11.279
doing that like
0:14:08.959,0:14:13.279
changing it up to to do that but you
0:14:11.279,0:14:16.480
know as long as they kind of
0:14:13.279,0:14:18.800
keep it you know has there
0:14:16.480,0:14:20.720
been any mention of how any of these
0:14:18.800,0:14:22.240
changes or anything would they affect
0:14:20.720,0:14:24.399
how they do the
0:14:22.240,0:14:26.079
nightmare before christmas makeover no
0:14:24.399,0:14:29.440
and i’m sure they’ll probably
0:14:26.079,0:14:31.760
still you know do do that
0:14:29.440,0:14:33.040
you know do the the overlay like like
0:14:31.760,0:14:35.680
they do and they only do
0:14:33.040,0:14:36.560
that in in disneyland they’ve never done
0:14:35.680,0:14:40.560
that
0:14:36.560,0:14:43.519
um in in florida so i wouldn’t mind them
0:14:40.560,0:14:45.360
bringing it to florida just or some
0:14:43.519,0:14:47.760
other version of it maybe not
0:14:45.360,0:14:49.760
the exact same just so that people that
0:14:47.760,0:14:52.399
never make it out experience it yeah
0:14:49.760,0:14:53.440
right you know because it was cool when
0:14:52.399,0:14:56.480
we happened to
0:14:53.440,0:14:58.480
be in california the one time during
0:14:56.480,0:15:00.880
halloween and we were able to experience
0:14:58.480,0:15:01.760
it but it would have also been nice for
0:15:00.880,0:15:04.240
us to
0:15:01.760,0:15:04.959
experience the haunted mansion without
0:15:04.240,0:15:06.240
it
0:15:04.959,0:15:08.000
yeah that’s the kind of thing that i had
0:15:06.240,0:15:09.920
missed out on as i didn’t see it
0:15:08.000,0:15:11.680
when it was in its original right right
0:15:09.920,0:15:12.480
so we have to kind of plan a trip that’s
0:15:11.680,0:15:14.720
not
0:15:12.480,0:15:16.639
around the hall right we’re going out to
0:15:14.720,0:15:17.360
california just to see the haunted
0:15:16.639,0:15:21.680
mansion
0:15:17.360,0:15:24.800
okay without it being decorated okay
0:15:21.680,0:15:26.079
okay right so fanatical is exactly how i
0:15:24.800,0:15:27.680
described you
0:15:26.079,0:15:30.079
i don’t know what you’re talking about
0:15:27.680,0:15:32.560
yeah all right so that’s all we have for
0:15:30.079,0:15:34.399
our disney detective this week
0:15:32.560,0:15:41.839
we’ll be right back with our tales from

[Laughter]
0:16:59.600,0:17:06.480
and i wasn’t even gonna do it but you
0:17:02.959,0:17:09.280
you waited so all right um
0:17:06.480,0:17:10.720
so last week we had talked about all the
0:17:09.280,0:17:13.199
hasbro toys that
0:17:10.720,0:17:14.240
were gonna be coming out where none of
0:17:13.199,0:17:16.559
them
0:17:14.240,0:17:17.600
were anything that you were gonna want
0:17:16.559,0:17:20.079
and then of course
0:17:17.600,0:17:21.280
the story that comes out early this week
0:17:20.079,0:17:23.679
is something where
0:17:21.280,0:17:26.000
you’re gonna want like almost everything
0:17:23.679,0:17:29.440
so i like how we go ying and yang
0:17:26.000,0:17:32.080
uh you know from this so on monday
0:17:29.440,0:17:33.360
uh an article came out and i had
0:17:32.080,0:17:36.640
actually heard about it on
0:17:33.360,0:17:38.320
the radio on the morning radio show that
0:17:36.640,0:17:40.559
i listened to while i’m working
0:17:38.320,0:17:42.799
so of course i had to quickly look it up
0:17:40.559,0:17:45.360
online to find it
0:17:42.799,0:17:46.320
and see what it was and it seems that
0:17:45.360,0:17:49.600
there is
0:17:46.320,0:17:53.840
um they’re going to be doing an auction
0:17:49.600,0:17:56.960
of all of david prouse’s star wars
0:17:53.840,0:17:58.000
collectibles that he’s collected over
0:17:56.960,0:17:59.919
the years
0:17:58.000,0:18:01.120
um so it seems that there’s various
0:17:59.919,0:18:03.520
different lots
0:18:01.120,0:18:06.559
that they have um so it looks like it’s
0:18:03.520,0:18:09.760
more than 700 of his possessions
0:18:06.559,0:18:11.600
um and obviously if you don’t know david
0:18:09.760,0:18:14.799
prouse was the actor who
0:18:11.600,0:18:16.640
physically played darth vader in
0:18:14.799,0:18:17.919
the movies they didn’t use his speaking
0:18:16.640,0:18:20.480
voice obviously
0:18:17.919,0:18:23.200
james earl jones we know that whole
0:18:20.480,0:18:26.080
thing spoilers
0:18:23.200,0:18:27.120
if you haven’t found that out yet hate
0:18:26.080,0:18:30.720
to tell you
0:18:27.120,0:18:32.080
you know um so uh so they’ll obviously
0:18:30.720,0:18:34.080
be auctioning off
0:18:32.080,0:18:36.000
uh you know some of his stuff from the
0:18:34.080,0:18:39.120
original star wars trilogy
0:18:36.000,0:18:42.559
um and they’re doing the auction um
0:18:39.120,0:18:43.520
in his home city and that’s because he
0:18:42.559,0:18:46.960
passed away
0:18:43.520,0:18:49.840
uh at 85 last year um included
0:18:46.960,0:18:50.160
is his empire strikes back script which
0:18:49.840,0:18:52.240
has
0:18:50.160,0:18:53.760
key lines that were removed to keep
0:18:52.240,0:18:57.280
vader’s relationship
0:18:53.760,0:18:59.760
with luke skywalker a secret spoilers i
0:18:57.280,0:19:01.039
am your father right a piece of the
0:18:59.760,0:19:04.720
millennium falcons
0:19:01.039,0:19:05.919
cockpit and a vader mask that prouses to
0:19:04.720,0:19:08.960
believe to have
0:19:05.919,0:19:10.160
uh used for appearances at conventions
0:19:08.960,0:19:13.760
and events
0:19:10.160,0:19:16.240
uh so approximately uh the collection
0:19:13.760,0:19:17.840
uh will be sold on may the fourth which
0:19:16.240,0:19:20.400
is a nod to the fran
0:19:17.840,0:19:21.280
franchise’s famous line may the force be
0:19:20.400,0:19:24.720
with you
0:19:21.280,0:19:26.559
uh auctioneer uh andrew stow had said
0:19:24.720,0:19:27.280
when he was rummaging through the boxes
0:19:26.559,0:19:28.880
in his house
0:19:27.280,0:19:30.960
every now and then he’d come across an
0:19:28.880,0:19:31.760
item uh something that was special and
0:19:30.960,0:19:35.039
it would just
0:19:31.760,0:19:37.280
you know send his brain racing he said
0:19:35.039,0:19:38.559
uh in one box i’d find his empire
0:19:37.280,0:19:40.640
strikes back
0:19:38.559,0:19:42.080
script and another i found the actual
0:19:40.640,0:19:44.799
piece of the millennium
0:19:42.080,0:19:48.160
falcon and then a little deeper down i
0:19:44.799,0:19:50.000
found a letter from peter cushing
0:19:48.160,0:19:52.160
the empire strikes back script is
0:19:50.000,0:19:54.400
expected to sell for thousands
0:19:52.160,0:19:56.000
he said my spine tingled when i first
0:19:54.400,0:19:59.120
saw the script
0:19:56.000,0:20:01.919
but the line revealing vader was
0:19:59.120,0:20:02.960
loose relation was not even featured in
0:20:01.919,0:20:04.880
the script
0:20:02.960,0:20:07.360
he said the reveal perhaps the most
0:20:04.880,0:20:10.159
recognized comment in cinema history was
0:20:07.360,0:20:13.200
kept a big secret from most of the cast
0:20:10.159,0:20:16.480
as prous la prouse’s lines would be
0:20:13.200,0:20:19.280
overdubbed by again james earl jones uh
0:20:16.480,0:20:21.120
prows you know wasn’t privy to the
0:20:19.280,0:20:23.919
secret so instead was giving
0:20:21.120,0:20:25.120
alternate dialogue which is considerably
0:20:23.919,0:20:27.120
less dramatic
0:20:25.120,0:20:29.280
but you know that of course still makes
0:20:27.120,0:20:31.280
it a unique part of history
0:20:29.280,0:20:33.440
um and what’s nice is that a percentage
0:20:31.280,0:20:36.799
of the proceeds of the auction will go
0:20:33.440,0:20:40.320
to alzheimer’s research in the uk
0:20:36.799,0:20:41.200
yes prowse’s line was obi-wan never told
0:20:40.320,0:20:43.200
you
0:20:41.200,0:20:45.120
what happened to your father you told me
0:20:43.200,0:20:46.880
enough you told me you killed him no
0:20:45.120,0:20:48.720
obi-wan killed your father is what
0:20:46.880,0:20:50.480
browses original line was
0:20:48.720,0:20:52.320
and that’s what’s in the script right
0:20:50.480,0:20:53.440
right which would be really cool to get
0:20:52.320,0:20:54.880
the script
0:20:53.440,0:20:56.880
but there’s a ton of stuff on the
0:20:54.880,0:20:59.919
auction and it’s not
0:20:56.880,0:21:00.799
just star wars stuff it’s he was a he
0:20:59.919,0:21:04.559
was a sci-fi
0:21:00.799,0:21:06.480
fan you know he did a number of horror
0:21:04.559,0:21:08.559
films for hammer films
0:21:06.480,0:21:10.159
he worked with peter cushing you know
0:21:08.559,0:21:11.200
not just in star wars but in the horror
0:21:10.159,0:21:14.320
films
0:21:11.200,0:21:17.039
he was the crossing guard uh
0:21:14.320,0:21:18.159
you know i’d say mascot will say which
0:21:17.039,0:21:20.080
is right one of the things he was
0:21:18.159,0:21:22.080
knighted for actually
0:21:20.080,0:21:23.919
um so there’s memorabilia for that
0:21:22.080,0:21:26.799
there’s signed photos
0:21:23.919,0:21:28.240
there’s stuff from stargate sg1 that’s
0:21:26.799,0:21:30.799
there because he was a fan of that
0:21:28.240,0:21:31.760
okay there’s a ton of uh superman stuff
0:21:30.799,0:21:35.360
because he was
0:21:31.760,0:21:37.760
actually um christopher reeves
0:21:35.360,0:21:38.640
um personal trainer okay when he was
0:21:37.760,0:21:41.360
working out
0:21:38.640,0:21:43.120
to become superman okay so there’s a ton
0:21:41.360,0:21:44.720
of stuff in there for that
0:21:43.120,0:21:46.400
there’s all kinds of stuff from
0:21:44.720,0:21:48.320
different genres and everything that’s
0:21:46.400,0:21:49.919
that’s
0:21:48.320,0:21:51.520
right now reasonably priced you know
0:21:49.919,0:21:52.960
okay go out and bid on it now it’s okay
0:21:51.520,0:21:54.640
stuff is mundane like there’s some
0:21:52.960,0:21:58.000
action figures that
0:21:54.640,0:22:00.960
they’re not signed right and there’s no
0:21:58.000,0:22:01.360
uh certificate of authenticity with them
0:22:00.960,0:22:04.320
but
0:22:01.360,0:22:05.840
they were his right you know like how
0:22:04.320,0:22:07.440
cool how much more cool could it be to
0:22:05.840,0:22:08.320
get a darth vader figure that was owned
0:22:07.440,0:22:12.400
by darth vader
0:22:08.320,0:22:14.159
right right um so i i may be
0:22:12.400,0:22:15.760
bidding on some of the stuff and that’s
0:22:14.159,0:22:18.400
you know hey if you get it
0:22:15.760,0:22:18.880
that’s great and more stuff to add to
0:22:18.400,0:22:21.120
the
0:22:18.880,0:22:22.320
collection maybe even put it in like a
0:22:21.120,0:22:24.240
cute little
0:22:22.320,0:22:25.600
you know depends on what i get right but
0:22:24.240,0:22:29.600
whatever i get would be
0:22:25.600,0:22:31.360
you know greatly protected oh absolutely
0:22:29.600,0:22:32.720
maybe we’ll show it off if you know if
0:22:31.360,0:22:34.720
you manage to
0:22:32.720,0:22:36.799
to score something if i score something
0:22:34.720,0:22:40.640
yes father’s day’s coming by the way
0:22:36.799,0:22:42.080
hint not nudge okay just saying
0:22:40.640,0:22:44.159
chill you want to get me something
0:22:42.080,0:22:47.360
here’s a great opportunity it’s like
0:22:44.159,0:22:48.720
send me the link because the article
0:22:47.360,0:22:49.600
actually didn’t even happen i know it
0:22:48.720,0:22:51.840
didn’t i actually
0:22:49.600,0:22:53.760
i because i had seen i i had seen this
0:22:51.840,0:22:54.880
earlier in the week i’ve looked at the
0:22:53.760,0:22:56.640
thing and found
0:22:54.880,0:22:58.400
found a link to the bristol auctions
0:22:56.640,0:22:59.280
gotcha so i’m sure if you do a google
0:22:58.400,0:23:01.760
search you can
0:22:59.280,0:23:02.799
it’s very easy to find for first one or
0:23:01.760,0:23:04.320
two
0:23:02.799,0:23:05.919
searches you can look for maybe i’ll
0:23:04.320,0:23:07.280
look and see there we go
0:23:05.919,0:23:08.559
not gonna get to that script because if
0:23:07.280,0:23:09.200
that’s already going for a couple
0:23:08.559,0:23:10.799
thousand
0:23:09.200,0:23:12.960
what’s a couple thousand you don’t love
0:23:10.799,0:23:16.559
me that much
0:23:12.960,0:23:19.840
don’t answer that i love you
0:23:16.559,0:23:21.039
more than that yeah right but not enough
0:23:19.840,0:23:22.799
to buy them
0:23:21.039,0:23:24.480
well i’d probably lose out on it and
0:23:22.799,0:23:27.840
then i’d be upset
0:23:24.480,0:23:30.640
the thought that counts absolutely so
0:23:27.840,0:23:31.280
let’s talk about disney and an iconic
0:23:30.640,0:23:34.080
writer
0:23:31.280,0:23:35.679
so this is technically a follow-up story
0:23:34.080,0:23:36.960
that we talked about a couple of months
0:23:35.679,0:23:40.559
ago
0:23:36.960,0:23:44.240
where there was a lawsuit uh that was
0:23:40.559,0:23:47.360
uh with one of the disney um
0:23:44.240,0:23:50.320
or not star wars writers i should say
0:23:47.360,0:23:52.080
um so it talks about um you know there
0:23:50.320,0:23:53.279
are two kinds of in in this article it
0:23:52.080,0:23:54.559
said you know there are two kinds of
0:23:53.279,0:23:56.320
star wars fans
0:23:54.559,0:23:57.600
those that you know basically just
0:23:56.320,0:24:00.240
watched the movies
0:23:57.600,0:24:02.640
but then those that saw the movies every
0:24:00.240,0:24:05.679
animated series read every
0:24:02.640,0:24:08.159
you know novelization in existence
0:24:05.679,0:24:09.279
and if you you know fall into that later
0:24:08.159,0:24:11.440
category
0:24:09.279,0:24:12.320
that you you know obviously read
0:24:11.440,0:24:15.840
something
0:24:12.320,0:24:18.880
by star wars writer alan dean foster
0:24:15.840,0:24:19.600
um and if you know again we had talked
0:24:18.880,0:24:21.760
about this
0:24:19.600,0:24:23.520
i think it was last summer uh that he
0:24:21.760,0:24:26.480
had some ongoing controversy
0:24:23.520,0:24:27.200
with the walt disney company um so it
0:24:26.480,0:24:29.440
was actually
0:24:27.200,0:24:31.679
okay so it was november uh so last
0:24:29.440,0:24:33.039
november foster had published a letter
0:24:31.679,0:24:35.440
via
0:24:33.039,0:24:36.720
the science fiction and fantasy writers
0:24:35.440,0:24:39.919
of america
0:24:36.720,0:24:42.480
that basically said you know when
0:24:39.919,0:24:44.320
disney had purchased lucasfilms they had
0:24:42.480,0:24:45.440
acquired the rights to some of the books
0:24:44.320,0:24:49.600
that he wrote
0:24:45.440,0:24:50.960
and star wars uh the novelization of the
0:24:49.600,0:24:53.760
very first film
0:24:50.960,0:24:54.559
and a couple of other things and that
0:24:53.760,0:24:57.279
you
0:24:54.559,0:24:58.000
you know that disney owed him royalties
0:24:57.279,0:25:01.279
and
0:24:58.000,0:25:02.559
that you should pay and you know then
0:25:01.279,0:25:05.200
there was a whole thing
0:25:02.559,0:25:06.799
with 20th century fox that when you know
0:25:05.200,0:25:10.000
disney bought them
0:25:06.799,0:25:12.880
books that he had written under you know
0:25:10.000,0:25:14.080
fox he never got royalties for either so
0:25:12.880,0:25:16.960
it was a whole
0:25:14.080,0:25:18.799
big you know laundry list of of things
0:25:16.960,0:25:21.600
that he was owed money on
0:25:18.799,0:25:23.360
um and then he you know went on and said
0:25:21.600,0:25:24.720
in his letter that you know you continue
0:25:23.360,0:25:27.760
to ignore my
0:25:24.720,0:25:31.279
request from my agent you you know
0:25:27.760,0:25:34.559
basically are ignoring the inquiries
0:25:31.279,0:25:37.279
from the sfwa
0:25:34.559,0:25:39.039
and you know what are you basically
0:25:37.279,0:25:40.320
waiting for are you waiting for me to
0:25:39.039,0:25:42.159
die it was really
0:25:40.320,0:25:43.600
it was really kind of heart-wrenching
0:25:42.159,0:25:45.120
you know of all this
0:25:43.600,0:25:47.440
and then of course he said that you know
0:25:45.120,0:25:50.720
my wife has serious medical issues
0:25:47.440,0:25:52.480
and in 2016 i was diagnosed with advance
0:25:50.720,0:25:54.960
with an advanced form of
0:25:52.480,0:25:55.520
cancer we could really use the money
0:25:54.960,0:25:58.159
it’s not
0:25:55.520,0:26:00.400
charity it’s what i’m owed i always love
0:25:58.159,0:26:02.799
disney’s the films the park growing up
0:26:00.400,0:26:06.000
with the disneyland tv show
0:26:02.799,0:26:07.039
um you know i don’t think walt would
0:26:06.000,0:26:10.240
approve
0:26:07.039,0:26:12.640
of how you’re currently treating me um
0:26:10.240,0:26:15.039
you know and he he went on to say you
0:26:12.640,0:26:17.200
know as you know bob iger used to say
0:26:15.039,0:26:18.640
the way you do anything is the way you
0:26:17.200,0:26:21.200
do everything
0:26:18.640,0:26:23.200
so now after months of the back and
0:26:21.200,0:26:24.159
forth it seems that the situation might
0:26:23.200,0:26:26.640
actually
0:26:24.159,0:26:28.799
be coming to an end the science fiction
0:26:26.640,0:26:30.799
and fantasy writers of america along
0:26:28.799,0:26:33.679
with foster’s own legal team
0:26:30.799,0:26:34.400
have seemingly come close to reaching a
0:26:33.679,0:26:36.840
settlement
0:26:34.400,0:26:38.000
that will end his star wars royalty
0:26:36.840,0:26:41.120
controversy
0:26:38.000,0:26:43.520
once and for all so as of april
0:26:41.120,0:26:45.520
uh first of this year foster had shared
0:26:43.520,0:26:49.279
on his personal log
0:26:45.520,0:26:50.880
that um he said you know talked about
0:26:49.279,0:26:52.640
everything that was going on
0:26:50.880,0:26:55.679
with disney that you’ve you know read
0:26:52.640,0:26:56.880
about is moving rapidly towards a mutual
0:26:55.679,0:26:59.520
agreeable
0:26:56.880,0:27:00.640
conclusion a formal statement will be
0:26:59.520,0:27:02.720
forthcoming
0:27:00.640,0:27:05.360
obviously at this time foster is not
0:27:02.720,0:27:09.440
writing for disney or lucasfilms in
0:27:05.360,0:27:11.840
any capacity but it’s nice to hear
0:27:09.440,0:27:13.840
that he’s finally going to be getting
0:27:11.840,0:27:14.799
what he what he deserves and rightfully
0:27:13.840,0:27:16.240
so
0:27:14.799,0:27:18.080
and you know just like we had talked
0:27:16.240,0:27:21.120
about back when the
0:27:18.080,0:27:23.200
original story broke the way the disney
0:27:21.120,0:27:25.279
actedness was absolutely disgraced
0:27:23.200,0:27:28.000
absolutely the fact that you can pay
0:27:25.279,0:27:31.120
your your ceo
0:27:28.000,0:27:34.000
60 some million dollars but
0:27:31.120,0:27:34.799
you can’t pay someone who you’re making
0:27:34.000,0:27:36.799
money off of
0:27:34.799,0:27:38.240
right it’d be a different story if
0:27:36.799,0:27:39.760
disney said okay we’re pulling those
0:27:38.240,0:27:41.440
books from circulation we’re not going
0:27:39.760,0:27:44.640
to we’re not going to sell them anymore
0:27:41.440,0:27:47.039
right but disney continued to sell them
0:27:44.640,0:27:49.600
to make money off of right right
0:27:47.039,0:27:50.159
and you know this is a case of of the
0:27:49.600,0:27:53.039
little guy
0:27:50.159,0:27:54.559
finally getting what to do you know i i
0:27:53.039,0:27:55.279
wish him the best of luck in getting
0:27:54.559,0:27:57.600
what
0:27:55.279,0:27:58.399
what he’s owed from disney and and i
0:27:57.600,0:28:00.640
hope disney
0:27:58.399,0:28:02.000
publicly acknowledges this you know i
0:28:00.640,0:28:03.039
don’t want them to just slip them a
0:28:02.000,0:28:05.360
check under the table and
0:28:03.039,0:28:07.360
they could go away admit what you did
0:28:05.360,0:28:09.039
you know with a formal statement saying
0:28:07.360,0:28:11.039
we were completely wrong
0:28:09.039,0:28:12.480
it should have never gotten this far
0:28:11.039,0:28:14.159
because if it’s happening to him how
0:28:12.480,0:28:14.960
many other people are happening to who
0:28:14.159,0:28:18.480
don’t have
0:28:14.960,0:28:20.080
absolutely the the you know i mean he he
0:28:18.480,0:28:22.159
certainly has the motivation to stand up
0:28:20.080,0:28:24.480
right but other people might still be
0:28:22.159,0:28:25.919
on the disney payroll and are getting
0:28:24.480,0:28:27.919
shafted by disney right
0:28:25.919,0:28:30.240
and they’re afraid to sort of bite the
0:28:27.919,0:28:32.000
hand that feeds them yeah
0:28:30.240,0:28:33.919
and you know that’s the same with with
0:28:32.000,0:28:36.000
any big corporation
0:28:33.919,0:28:37.760
they got to be held to held the terms
0:28:36.000,0:28:40.080
right so
0:28:37.760,0:28:40.960
best of luck to them on that one so that
0:28:40.080,0:28:42.960
was all we had
0:28:40.960,0:28:45.840
for our tales from the edge of the
0:28:42.960,0:28:49.279
galaxy we’ll be right back with our
0:28:45.840,0:28:49.279
entertainment news of the week

0:30:02.960,0:30:10.000
girlfriend entertainment news
0:30:08.240,0:30:11.440
it was funny as soon as i heard it i was
0:30:10.000,0:30:14.240
like that’s not the right song
0:30:11.440,0:30:15.360
oh yeah that is the right side so this
0:30:14.240,0:30:18.559
was a cute little
0:30:15.360,0:30:20.480
um crush story that that popped up and
0:30:18.559,0:30:23.679
uh you know i kind of thought we would
0:30:20.480,0:30:26.799
put it in uh so it seems that lizzo
0:30:23.679,0:30:28.159
uh sent some drunk dms to chris evans
0:30:26.799,0:30:31.279
that kind of turned out
0:30:28.159,0:30:34.000
you know pretty great so um
0:30:31.279,0:30:34.720
you know on saturday the hitmaker had
0:30:34.000,0:30:37.919
posted
0:30:34.720,0:30:40.799
a relatable tick tock video revealing
0:30:37.919,0:30:42.720
a direct instagram message that she sent
0:30:40.799,0:30:45.679
to the captain america actor
0:30:42.720,0:30:46.399
and captioned it don’t drink don’t drink
0:30:45.679,0:30:49.679
and dm
0:30:46.399,0:30:52.880
kids and a day later the plot thickened
0:30:49.679,0:30:55.279
when evans had actually responded so
0:30:52.880,0:30:57.679
lizzo’s initial tick-tock included a
0:30:55.279,0:31:00.320
screenshot of the direct message
0:30:57.679,0:31:02.480
that stated uh that started it all with
0:31:00.320,0:31:04.880
no words but just three emojis
0:31:02.480,0:31:05.760
a gust of wind a woman playing
0:31:04.880,0:31:08.240
basketball
0:31:05.760,0:31:10.159
and a basketball so fans immediately
0:31:08.240,0:31:13.760
deciphered the emoji sequence
0:31:10.159,0:31:14.480
as uh meaning to uh that she was
0:31:13.760,0:31:17.039
shooting her
0:31:14.480,0:31:18.320
shot with a potential relationship with
0:31:17.039,0:31:20.799
evans
0:31:18.320,0:31:22.159
so while presenting the uh screen
0:31:20.799,0:31:25.600
grabbed evidence
0:31:22.159,0:31:28.880
lizzo is you know lip syncing uh to
0:31:25.600,0:31:32.000
another audio from another tick tock uh
0:31:28.880,0:31:33.760
um uh creator
0:31:32.000,0:31:36.320
basically saying the reason i’m upset
0:31:33.760,0:31:37.279
about this one is because i know i’m not
0:31:36.320,0:31:39.600
gonna be
0:31:37.279,0:31:41.519
able to marry him and honestly it hurts
0:31:39.600,0:31:44.640
me to the core because
0:31:41.519,0:31:46.640
damn he’s a rare breed no comparing so
0:31:44.640,0:31:47.519
of course now fast forward to sunday
0:31:46.640,0:31:49.600
when lizzo
0:31:47.519,0:31:50.720
updated her tick tock saga with a
0:31:49.600,0:31:54.320
screenshot
0:31:50.720,0:31:55.760
of his response and he basically said no
0:31:54.320,0:31:58.640
shame in a drunk dm
0:31:55.760,0:31:59.600
he replied along with a wink uh kiss
0:31:58.640,0:32:02.480
emoji
0:31:59.600,0:32:03.039
uh god knows i’ve done worse on on this
0:32:02.480,0:32:06.159
app
0:32:03.039,0:32:07.200
lol um and obviously he was kind of
0:32:06.159,0:32:10.480
referring to some
0:32:07.200,0:32:13.120
leaked photos that had kind of
0:32:10.480,0:32:14.159
gone out so of course the flirty
0:32:13.120,0:32:17.039
exchange had
0:32:14.159,0:32:18.240
now prompted you know many to manifest a
0:32:17.039,0:32:21.679
romance between
0:32:18.240,0:32:24.000
evans and lizzo on social media um
0:32:21.679,0:32:25.200
and a whole bunch of people uh had
0:32:24.000,0:32:28.320
noticed on
0:32:25.200,0:32:32.159
twitter that now he follows her
0:32:28.320,0:32:34.399
on instagram oh romance
0:32:32.159,0:32:36.000
um you know so one person had tweeted
0:32:34.399,0:32:38.080
now when i get invited to the chris
0:32:36.000,0:32:41.360
evans and lizzo wedding
0:32:38.080,0:32:42.880
um you know please make sure you know
0:32:41.360,0:32:45.519
that i’m sitting next to
0:32:42.880,0:32:46.480
you know anthony mackie and then another
0:32:45.519,0:32:48.480
one had said
0:32:46.480,0:32:50.559
i really want lizzo and chris evans to
0:32:48.480,0:32:52.399
date mr and mrs america
0:32:50.559,0:32:54.000
you know could it be the birth of a new
0:32:52.399,0:32:56.720
celebrity power couple
0:32:54.000,0:32:58.320
you know anything is possible and if you
0:32:56.720,0:33:00.080
do a quick google search you’ll find
0:32:58.320,0:33:02.640
that both of them are single
0:33:00.080,0:33:03.760
so you never know but you know the moral
0:33:02.640,0:33:06.880
of the story is
0:33:03.760,0:33:09.679
shoot your shot ladies shoot your shot
0:33:06.880,0:33:10.159
you know i i before this was even
0:33:09.679,0:33:12.399
included
0:33:10.159,0:33:14.799
in the in the show notes i had read the
0:33:12.399,0:33:18.320
story and thought it was cute
0:33:14.799,0:33:20.640
and under the current circumstances that
0:33:18.320,0:33:22.720
were under i can only imagine
0:33:20.640,0:33:24.080
what this will do for race relations at
0:33:22.720,0:33:26.240
this point oh absolutely
0:33:24.080,0:33:28.159
i think it was i think it was you know
0:33:26.240,0:33:32.240
it was just you know it was cute
0:33:28.159,0:33:34.960
it was warm it was it was innocent
0:33:32.240,0:33:35.600
you know and and his reaction was was
0:33:34.960,0:33:37.600
fantastic
0:33:35.600,0:33:39.840
right you know he wasn’t like oh my god
0:33:37.600,0:33:42.000
i’d never date you he was like
0:33:39.840,0:33:43.200
okay you’re kind of cute wink wink kiss
0:33:42.000,0:33:45.840
kiss you know and
0:33:43.200,0:33:46.720
and the fact that it’s you know like we
0:33:45.840,0:33:48.480
were just talking
0:33:46.720,0:33:50.480
at dinner when we were you know sitting
0:33:48.480,0:33:52.320
with our daughter it’s cute to see that
0:33:50.480,0:33:55.440
celebrities have crushes too
0:33:52.320,0:33:56.320
right you know and that when they act on
0:33:55.440,0:33:58.159
they’re like
0:33:56.320,0:34:00.000
oh my god i can’t believe i did this and
0:33:58.159,0:34:00.799
then everybody’s like oh my god that’s
0:34:00.000,0:34:02.799
adorable
0:34:00.799,0:34:04.399
yeah they gotta go out sometime or have
0:34:02.799,0:34:06.399
a zoom date or something
0:34:04.399,0:34:09.040
it was it was a very cute story yeah
0:34:06.399,0:34:11.040
yeah a not so cute story though it’s
0:34:09.040,0:34:12.800
about superman superman’s getting the
0:34:11.040,0:34:15.679
axe what’s going on
0:34:12.800,0:34:16.879
superman will no longer be published by
0:34:15.679,0:34:20.000
dc
0:34:16.879,0:34:22.159
he’s just kind of getting replaced so
0:34:20.000,0:34:24.399
superman will always be a cornerstone
0:34:22.159,0:34:26.879
character in dc comics
0:34:24.399,0:34:28.240
excuse me but the character has gone
0:34:26.879,0:34:31.599
through a number of
0:34:28.240,0:34:33.839
you know different uh changes and titles
0:34:31.599,0:34:37.359
over the many decades
0:34:33.839,0:34:39.440
and there um have been untold
0:34:37.359,0:34:40.639
you know number of new versions and
0:34:39.440,0:34:43.359
reboots
0:34:40.639,0:34:44.560
and all you know alternative takes on
0:34:43.359,0:34:47.280
the character
0:34:44.560,0:34:48.320
but there you know has usually always
0:34:47.280,0:34:51.520
been something
0:34:48.320,0:34:55.440
you know that dc has done as superman
0:34:51.520,0:34:58.800
but as reported by cbr it seems that dis
0:34:55.440,0:35:00.560
uh disney dc
0:34:58.800,0:35:02.000
they don’t own dc yet they’re working on
0:35:00.560,0:35:05.200
them give them
0:35:02.000,0:35:07.680
time uh dc is actually canceling their
0:35:05.200,0:35:11.119
superman title and replacing it
0:35:07.680,0:35:12.480
with a new title called superman son of
0:35:11.119,0:35:15.119
kell
0:35:12.480,0:35:15.760
the story will no longer focus on clark
0:35:15.119,0:35:18.000
kent
0:35:15.760,0:35:19.119
but will be centered around his son
0:35:18.000,0:35:21.119
jonathan kent
0:35:19.119,0:35:22.720
who has been taking up the mantle in his
0:35:21.119,0:35:25.760
father’s place
0:35:22.720,0:35:26.480
the first issue was revealed and its
0:35:25.760,0:35:30.079
cover
0:35:26.480,0:35:31.920
is actually you know kind of uh
0:35:30.079,0:35:33.920
you know an acknowledgement of the
0:35:31.920,0:35:35.920
history of the character
0:35:33.920,0:35:38.240
uh the cover you know kind of looks
0:35:35.920,0:35:39.920
strangely old-fashioned for a modern
0:35:38.240,0:35:42.160
landscape of the comic
0:35:39.920,0:35:43.359
um but there’s a good reason for that
0:35:42.160,0:35:45.760
and what they did
0:35:43.359,0:35:46.720
was they actually did a direct reference
0:35:45.760,0:35:49.880
from the first
0:35:46.720,0:35:51.839
issue of the superman title um from
0:35:49.880,0:35:54.640
1939.
0:35:51.839,0:35:54.960
so it’s unclear you know if the plan is
0:35:54.640,0:35:57.760
to
0:35:54.960,0:35:58.480
permanently retire the specific superman
0:35:57.760,0:36:02.079
title
0:35:58.480,0:36:03.440
with the son of kell um or is it just a
0:36:02.079,0:36:06.400
temporary thing
0:36:03.440,0:36:06.720
um you know obviously in the past you
0:36:06.400,0:36:09.680
know
0:36:06.720,0:36:10.320
they’ve kind of put things on hiatus and
0:36:09.680,0:36:12.320
then
0:36:10.320,0:36:13.680
years later you know kind of bring it
0:36:12.320,0:36:16.480
back um
0:36:13.680,0:36:16.800
so it seems that right now their focus
0:36:16.480,0:36:20.079
is
0:36:16.800,0:36:23.520
kind of bringing more of the jonathan
0:36:20.079,0:36:26.560
kent character out you know in the open
0:36:23.520,0:36:28.160
and kind of focusing on you know you
0:36:26.560,0:36:29.280
know some of the younger i guess
0:36:28.160,0:36:31.200
characters
0:36:29.280,0:36:32.640
um you know so is it something that
0:36:31.200,0:36:35.760
it’ll
0:36:32.640,0:36:38.720
be you know a permanent thing or again
0:36:35.760,0:36:41.280
just kind of you know temporary until
0:36:38.720,0:36:42.800
you know superman has some sort of
0:36:41.280,0:36:44.400
you know big reveal just like you know
0:36:42.800,0:36:45.839
what was it you know a couple years back
0:36:44.400,0:36:47.839
where they killed him
0:36:45.839,0:36:49.440
he was supposedly dead he was never
0:36:47.839,0:36:52.079
coming back and then
0:36:49.440,0:36:52.560
yeah he brought him in like so that’s
0:36:52.079,0:36:54.800
the thing
0:36:52.560,0:36:56.240
you’re you’re you’re not going to stop
0:36:54.800,0:36:58.960
producing superman
0:36:56.240,0:37:00.880
right so you know the article even right
0:36:58.960,0:37:02.079
the article even says you know if we had
0:37:00.880,0:37:04.560
to bet money
0:37:02.079,0:37:06.800
he’ll be back at some point he’ll be
0:37:04.560,0:37:08.400
back when this one doesn’t sell
0:37:06.800,0:37:09.920
and then they’ll bring them back and
0:37:08.400,0:37:10.560
they’ll reinvent them and he’ll have
0:37:09.920,0:37:13.520
another
0:37:10.560,0:37:15.119
new backstory and a new artist and right
0:37:13.520,0:37:16.560
maybe he went somewhere he took a
0:37:15.119,0:37:18.800
vacation
0:37:16.560,0:37:20.560
you know the comics reinvent themselves
0:37:18.800,0:37:24.000
constantly over right
0:37:20.560,0:37:26.240
he retired and then didn’t like it and
0:37:24.000,0:37:28.079
yeah every superhero has been killed at
0:37:26.240,0:37:31.760
least four times at this point
0:37:28.079,0:37:32.560
true um so this is a this is a little
0:37:31.760,0:37:35.359
experiment
0:37:32.560,0:37:36.960
you know this is you know probably new
0:37:35.359,0:37:38.800
executives at dc
0:37:36.960,0:37:40.720
that want to try something new somebody
0:37:38.800,0:37:42.079
had this great idea they want to try out
0:37:40.720,0:37:44.240
some new artists they want to try out
0:37:42.079,0:37:46.560
some new styles
0:37:44.240,0:37:48.560
and in six months superman will be back
0:37:46.560,0:37:51.119
sure so he’s not gone for good
0:37:48.560,0:37:53.359
right so that was all we had for our
0:37:51.119,0:37:54.960
entertainment news
0:37:53.359,0:37:57.520
we’ll be right back with our insightful
0:37:54.960,0:37:57.520
picks of the week
0:37:58.980,0:38:03.760
[Applause]
0:38:01.280,0:38:04.720
go for your insightful pick so my
0:38:03.760,0:38:07.520
insightful pick
0:38:04.720,0:38:08.160
is a show that is on disney plus and
0:38:07.520,0:38:11.839
it’s
0:38:08.160,0:38:14.960
uh kind of a young adult uh show
0:38:11.839,0:38:15.599
um obviously as we’ve mentioned numerous
0:38:14.960,0:38:18.960
times
0:38:15.599,0:38:22.240
you know our daughter she and i do tv
0:38:18.960,0:38:23.920
time at the end of the evening um
0:38:22.240,0:38:26.079
so we’re always looking for things to
0:38:23.920,0:38:27.040
watch we went through every disney movie
0:38:26.079,0:38:29.760
now we’re kind of
0:38:27.040,0:38:32.400
looking at some of the series so this is
0:38:29.760,0:38:35.200
one that kind of popped up after
0:38:32.400,0:38:36.480
we had watched sulphur springs and it is
0:38:35.200,0:38:38.560
called the evermore
0:38:36.480,0:38:39.520
chronicles so there’s actually two of
0:38:38.560,0:38:42.480
them so there’s
0:38:39.520,0:38:44.880
the evermore which was actually done as
0:38:42.480,0:38:48.079
a four part mini series
0:38:44.880,0:38:48.800
and then after that they did two seasons
0:38:48.079,0:38:50.720
of
0:38:48.800,0:38:51.920
the evermore chronicle so it’s pretty
0:38:50.720,0:38:55.040
much the same
0:38:51.920,0:38:57.839
cast so uh if you do go looking for it
0:38:55.040,0:38:59.760
look for the one that’s just the four
0:38:57.839,0:39:00.800
episodes first because we actually
0:38:59.760,0:39:03.119
started
0:39:00.800,0:39:04.720
watching a couple of minutes of the
0:39:03.119,0:39:05.920
evermore chronicles and we’re like we
0:39:04.720,0:39:07.920
don’t understand
0:39:05.920,0:39:09.920
anything that happened so you need to
0:39:07.920,0:39:11.839
watch the first one first
0:39:09.920,0:39:13.520
so that one actually came out in march
0:39:11.839,0:39:15.440
of 2015
0:39:13.520,0:39:17.599
and again it was just a mini series it
0:39:15.440,0:39:20.720
was uh four episodes
0:39:17.599,0:39:23.119
and then it happened to get picked up um
0:39:20.720,0:39:24.240
by disney for a full series of 20
0:39:23.119,0:39:26.720
episodes
0:39:24.240,0:39:28.240
and it was under the new title again the
0:39:26.720,0:39:30.960
evermore chronicles
0:39:28.240,0:39:33.200
as it continued uh it was a continuation
0:39:30.960,0:39:36.000
of the original
0:39:33.200,0:39:36.480
as of right now it looks like after the
0:39:36.000,0:39:39.200
second
0:39:36.480,0:39:40.720
season or the third season that they did
0:39:39.200,0:39:43.839
that came out
0:39:40.720,0:39:44.640
as of february of 2020 that they weren’t
0:39:43.839,0:39:46.960
going to
0:39:44.640,0:39:49.040
continue it anymore so as of right now
0:39:46.960,0:39:52.000
you basically have like two and a half
0:39:49.040,0:39:53.280
uh seasons of this but the mini series
0:39:52.000,0:39:56.400
and the first season
0:39:53.280,0:39:58.480
uh featured the character tara crossley
0:39:56.400,0:40:00.560
who was an american teen who moved from
0:39:58.480,0:40:01.920
the states to an english village called
0:40:00.560,0:40:04.079
evermore
0:40:01.920,0:40:05.839
as her mother and stepfather father
0:40:04.079,0:40:09.040
unpacked from their new home
0:40:05.839,0:40:11.680
tara her brother and her british step
0:40:09.040,0:40:12.160
siblings adjust to their new life the
0:40:11.680,0:40:16.079
second
0:40:12.160,0:40:19.200
season of the series actually
0:40:16.079,0:40:20.000
features her stepsister who tries to
0:40:19.200,0:40:23.359
apply for
0:40:20.000,0:40:26.160
fashion school in london and some
0:40:23.359,0:40:28.079
magic and horror stuff happen and she
0:40:26.160,0:40:31.440
has to you know kind of save the day
0:40:28.079,0:40:34.880
so it’s it’s kind of like horror fantasy
0:40:31.440,0:40:38.000
mystery um you know witchy
0:40:34.880,0:40:40.560
kind of magical stuff so you know
0:40:38.000,0:40:41.119
our daughter seems to like it she’s 14
0:40:40.560,0:40:42.720
um
0:40:41.119,0:40:44.400
and it’s one of those things where i’m
0:40:42.720,0:40:46.960
enjoying watching it
0:40:44.400,0:40:48.240
um as well each episode is only a half
0:40:46.960,0:40:51.119
hour long so
0:40:48.240,0:40:52.079
not very long the first season i think
0:40:51.119,0:40:54.720
uh it was 20
0:40:52.079,0:40:55.599
episodes uh second season i think is is
0:40:54.720,0:40:57.760
just as long so
0:40:55.599,0:40:59.280
nice little show to watch with uh the
0:40:57.760,0:41:01.599
kids okay good pick
0:40:59.280,0:41:01.599
thank you
0:41:02.700,0:41:05.280
[Applause]
0:41:03.930,0:41:07.359
[Music]
0:41:05.280,0:41:08.800
so my pick this week is one that i’ve
0:41:07.359,0:41:11.119
been very hesitant
0:41:08.800,0:41:12.400
to pick and i’ll tell you why in a
0:41:11.119,0:41:14.640
minute
0:41:12.400,0:41:16.480
following the events oh it’s my pick is
0:41:14.640,0:41:17.200
by the way it’s uh falcon and the falcon
0:41:16.480,0:41:19.280
winter soldier
0:41:17.200,0:41:20.880
i would have never guessed that yeah
0:41:19.280,0:41:21.280
following the events of avengers end
0:41:20.880,0:41:23.680
game
0:41:21.280,0:41:24.640
sam wilson the falcon played by anthony
0:41:23.680,0:41:26.720
mackie
0:41:24.640,0:41:28.800
and bucky barnes the winner soldier
0:41:26.720,0:41:31.040
played by sebastian stan
0:41:28.800,0:41:32.160
team up in a global adventure that tests
0:41:31.040,0:41:34.640
their abilities
0:41:32.160,0:41:35.200
and their patience in marvel studios the
0:41:34.640,0:41:37.599
falcon
0:41:35.200,0:41:39.680
and the winter soldier the falcon of the
0:41:37.599,0:41:41.119
winter soldier has tried to explore a
0:41:39.680,0:41:43.760
lot of things
0:41:41.119,0:41:45.520
the fallout from thanos removing half of
0:41:43.760,0:41:46.960
all life from the universe as well as
0:41:45.520,0:41:49.599
the economic and social
0:41:46.960,0:41:50.880
impact of bringing everyone back five
0:41:49.599,0:41:52.560
years later
0:41:50.880,0:41:54.079
the u.s government’s history of
0:41:52.560,0:41:55.839
institutional racism
0:41:54.079,0:41:57.280
and how little things have changed over
0:41:55.839,0:41:59.359
the years
0:41:57.280,0:42:01.440
and the smaller stakes stories of bucky
0:41:59.359,0:42:02.000
barnes and sam wilson trying to find a
0:42:01.440,0:42:04.480
new place
0:42:02.000,0:42:06.319
in the world after temporarily giving
0:42:04.480,0:42:08.800
their lives to save it
0:42:06.319,0:42:09.599
the series is primarily focused on a guy
0:42:08.800,0:42:11.599
who hasn’t
0:42:09.599,0:42:14.480
physically appeared in the show steve
0:42:11.599,0:42:16.880
rogers the real captain america
0:42:14.480,0:42:19.119
whose abilities and achievements are so
0:42:16.880,0:42:19.920
legendary they cast a star-spangled
0:42:19.119,0:42:23.520
shadow
0:42:19.920,0:42:25.920
over everyone and everything
0:42:23.520,0:42:28.000
this is a show that seems obsessed with
0:42:25.920,0:42:30.400
captain america’s legacy
0:42:28.000,0:42:31.200
with unpacking what he means to this
0:42:30.400,0:42:33.280
world
0:42:31.200,0:42:35.680
and what his loss means to the future of
0:42:33.280,0:42:37.839
the marvel cinematic universe
0:42:35.680,0:42:41.440
but this season seems so confused by
0:42:37.839,0:42:44.319
what captain america’s legacy even is
0:42:41.440,0:42:45.119
is it the superhero name quote captain
0:42:44.319,0:42:47.280
america
0:42:45.119,0:42:48.400
which the us government bestows on some
0:42:47.280,0:42:50.400
other guy
0:42:48.400,0:42:52.960
as if it’s a title they can pass around
0:42:50.400,0:42:54.880
like a championship wrestling title
0:42:52.960,0:42:57.040
is it the vibranium shield the
0:42:54.880,0:42:58.240
responsibility of which was so great for
0:42:57.040,0:43:00.560
sam wilson
0:42:58.240,0:43:01.520
that he chose to put it in a museum
0:43:00.560,0:43:04.560
rather than risk
0:43:01.520,0:43:07.760
failing to live up to what it represents
0:43:04.560,0:43:10.160
or is it the super soldier serum
0:43:07.760,0:43:12.240
which could and seemingly does create an
0:43:10.160,0:43:14.640
army of invincible terrorists have put
0:43:12.240,0:43:17.760
in the wrong hands
0:43:14.640,0:43:19.440
it’s none of these things really
0:43:17.760,0:43:21.760
but the falcon in the winter soldier has
0:43:19.440,0:43:22.480
struggled to land on an answer of its
0:43:21.760,0:43:24.160
own
0:43:22.480,0:43:26.800
even losing sight of the guy who
0:43:24.160,0:43:28.640
originally held the shield
0:43:26.800,0:43:30.880
i’ve hesitated to recommend this show
0:43:28.640,0:43:32.720
for the majority of the season
0:43:30.880,0:43:35.040
because it took more than half of the
0:43:32.720,0:43:38.000
short six episode season for the show to
0:43:35.040,0:43:40.560
really give me something to hold on to
0:43:38.000,0:43:42.800
up until episode 4 the series was a
0:43:40.560,0:43:44.319
throwaway series with little impact on
0:43:42.800,0:43:46.079
the mcu
0:43:44.319,0:43:47.440
not much character development of the
0:43:46.079,0:43:49.920
key players
0:43:47.440,0:43:50.960
and very little in the way of emotional
0:43:49.920,0:43:54.000
investment
0:43:50.960,0:43:57.040
in anything going on with the series
0:43:54.000,0:43:59.040
still eagerly anticipating episode 6 i’m
0:43:57.040,0:44:00.400
not really sure how i feel about the
0:43:59.040,0:44:02.480
show
0:44:00.400,0:44:05.280
part of me wants to watch it because
0:44:02.480,0:44:07.359
it’s mcu and i like the characters
0:44:05.280,0:44:09.599
part of me is disinterested in the
0:44:07.359,0:44:10.800
almost forced geopolitical aspects of
0:44:09.599,0:44:12.720
the plot
0:44:10.800,0:44:15.040
and the heavy emphasis on racial
0:44:12.720,0:44:17.839
tensions in the mcu that have never been
0:44:15.040,0:44:19.839
a plot point before
0:44:17.839,0:44:22.079
i’ll stick it out i’ll watch the last
0:44:19.839,0:44:23.680
episode to see where we end up
0:44:22.079,0:44:26.079
after sitting through five episodes
0:44:23.680,0:44:28.160
already that’s the least i can do
0:44:26.079,0:44:30.960
but i feel no emotional attachment or
0:44:28.160,0:44:33.040
investment whatsoever in this show
0:44:30.960,0:44:35.839
i haven’t felt that way about an mcu
0:44:33.040,0:44:37.599
project since the first two thor movies
0:44:35.839,0:44:39.040
i can’t help but feel they missed the
0:44:37.599,0:44:41.119
mark on this one
0:44:39.040,0:44:42.800
but maybe episode six will redeem the
0:44:41.119,0:44:46.560
series for me
0:44:42.800,0:44:49.520
we’ll see you tomorrow that’s it
0:44:46.560,0:44:52.880
okay wow yeah jury’s still out on this
0:44:49.520,0:44:54.800
one i think it’s worth watching but
0:44:52.880,0:44:56.960
it just it hasn’t captured that magic
0:44:54.800,0:44:58.960
for me
0:44:56.960,0:45:00.560
so and who knows maybe they’re gonna
0:44:58.960,0:45:02.400
have a second season that that
0:45:00.560,0:45:03.599
it gets better and i don’t know as far
0:45:02.400,0:45:05.359
as i know this is only supposed to be
0:45:03.599,0:45:07.760
one season
0:45:05.359,0:45:08.480
i can’t see it leading into or feeding
0:45:07.760,0:45:11.119
into
0:45:08.480,0:45:11.920
any of the movies which is another
0:45:11.119,0:45:15.119
problem like
0:45:11.920,0:45:17.119
like wanda vision ended up and you could
0:45:15.119,0:45:20.160
literally walk into the new true
0:45:17.119,0:45:20.960
doctor strange movie from it right i
0:45:20.160,0:45:23.599
don’t see them going
0:45:20.960,0:45:25.040
you just don’t know where they’re i
0:45:23.599,0:45:26.079
don’t like what they’re doing with the
0:45:25.040,0:45:28.720
characters i
0:45:26.079,0:45:28.720
don’t like
0:45:29.119,0:45:33.359
like they they tried to force these
0:45:31.119,0:45:36.319
situations on you to
0:45:33.359,0:45:38.160
to to they they outright tried to
0:45:36.319,0:45:39.520
manipulate your feelings on so many
0:45:38.160,0:45:41.280
different levels
0:45:39.520,0:45:43.280
and it was just so blatant where
0:45:41.280,0:45:45.839
everything else in the mcu
0:45:43.280,0:45:47.200
was done so seamlessly so naturally i
0:45:45.839,0:45:48.800
don’t know if it was the writing the
0:45:47.200,0:45:52.480
directing
0:45:48.800,0:45:54.079
i’m not sure but i felt like they really
0:45:52.480,0:45:57.520
wanted you to be invested in
0:45:54.079,0:46:00.160
in sam and bucky here
0:45:57.520,0:46:01.040
but they jammed it down your throat and
0:46:00.160,0:46:02.800
it’s
0:46:01.040,0:46:04.480
you know why are we sitting through
0:46:02.800,0:46:05.200
counseling sessions with the winter
0:46:04.480,0:46:08.000
soldier
0:46:05.200,0:46:09.280
right because he doesn’t want to be an
0:46:08.000,0:46:10.240
assassin anymore and he’s trouble from
0:46:09.280,0:46:13.760
being in a scent like
0:46:10.240,0:46:15.119
it just it didn’t fit you know they sit
0:46:13.760,0:46:15.760
the two of them down in the session at
0:46:15.119,0:46:19.599
one point right
0:46:15.760,0:46:23.760
right and they literally force them
0:46:19.599,0:46:25.760
to to sit so uncomfortably close to each
0:46:23.760,0:46:29.200
other as if they’re trying to generate
0:46:25.760,0:46:32.880
some kind of emotional attachment
0:46:29.200,0:46:34.480
visually and it just feels so forced
0:46:32.880,0:46:36.400
you know the racial side of things you
0:46:34.480,0:46:38.160
know there’s enough racial tension going
0:46:36.400,0:46:40.000
on right now in the real world
0:46:38.160,0:46:42.160
right i don’t need them jamming it down
0:46:40.000,0:46:44.160
my throat in this series here
0:46:42.160,0:46:45.599
they’ve never used it as a plot ploy in
0:46:44.160,0:46:49.119
the mcu before
0:46:45.599,0:46:50.079
well and there was actually a couple of
0:46:49.119,0:46:52.400
different
0:46:50.079,0:46:53.520
videos that i saw of people that were
0:46:52.400,0:46:57.359
talking about it
0:46:53.520,0:46:59.440
where it was one of those it was always
0:46:57.359,0:47:01.440
there they never talked about it this
0:46:59.440,0:47:04.400
was the opportunity to kind of
0:47:01.440,0:47:06.480
bring it it’s been in the comics right
0:47:04.400,0:47:07.359
they’ve done marvel’s done a fantastic
0:47:06.480,0:47:11.200
job
0:47:07.359,0:47:14.319
of covering all these uh societal
0:47:11.200,0:47:14.800
issues in the comics right but the mcu
0:47:14.319,0:47:16.560
has
0:47:14.800,0:47:19.040
largely stayed away from it until this
0:47:16.560,0:47:22.079
series right so it almost makes it
0:47:19.040,0:47:23.440
feel artificial like they’re trying to
0:47:22.079,0:47:25.280
push an issue
0:47:23.440,0:47:27.760
for the sake of pushing an issue not
0:47:25.280,0:47:29.599
because it moves the plot forward
0:47:27.760,0:47:31.119
and maybe that’s what maybe it is going
0:47:29.599,0:47:32.559
to push the plot forward
0:47:31.119,0:47:34.640
that we don’t and that’s what i’m
0:47:32.559,0:47:36.480
hearing we’re up to one episode
0:47:34.640,0:47:38.079
so far they’ve introduced this one
0:47:36.480,0:47:40.319
character who
0:47:38.079,0:47:42.079
was a mistreated super soldier who was
0:47:40.319,0:47:43.040
experimental and treated terribly by the
0:47:42.079,0:47:45.440
government
0:47:43.040,0:47:46.960
and they’ve done nothing with him right
0:47:45.440,0:47:48.640
you know i want to see
0:47:46.960,0:47:50.000
that character i want to see his
0:47:48.640,0:47:52.160
backstage and
0:47:50.000,0:47:53.040
why you know what would have happened if
0:47:52.160,0:47:55.119
sam said
0:47:53.040,0:47:56.640
yeah i’m going to keep the shield right
0:47:55.119,0:47:58.480
would the government have been like oh
0:47:56.640,0:48:00.480
that’s it captain america is gone
0:47:58.480,0:48:03.200
but you didn’t see that right but we
0:48:00.480,0:48:06.160
don’t no because sam was like
0:48:03.200,0:48:06.559
of of of the five episodes we’ve watched
0:48:06.160,0:48:08.880
right
0:48:06.559,0:48:09.680
the only character that i’ve generated
0:48:08.880,0:48:13.200
any interest
0:48:09.680,0:48:14.720
on is this secondary character who gave
0:48:13.200,0:48:17.280
a motivational speech in the last
0:48:14.720,0:48:19.440
episode to sam
0:48:17.280,0:48:21.280
i want to see his story right that’s the
0:48:19.440,0:48:23.040
one that looks interesting
0:48:21.280,0:48:24.880
he’s the one that i’ve latched on to
0:48:23.040,0:48:26.480
right nobody else
0:48:24.880,0:48:28.000
really matters to me in the story at
0:48:26.480,0:48:30.000
this point and and that’s very
0:48:28.000,0:48:33.200
uncharacteristic for the mcu
0:48:30.000,0:48:34.880
okay so
0:48:33.200,0:48:36.720
that’s it for my pick this week we’ll be
0:48:34.880,0:48:39.119
right back oh that’s on disney plus by
0:48:36.720,0:48:42.880
the way in case anyone did that
0:48:39.119,0:48:42.880
yeah sorry i was too busy
0:48:45.080,0:48:47.200
[Applause]
0:48:45.890,0:48:49.280
[Music]
0:48:47.200,0:48:51.040
so i think that’s all we had this week i
0:48:49.280,0:48:52.160
think so i didn’t have anything else to
0:48:51.040,0:48:53.920
rant about we didn’t have any
0:48:52.160,0:48:54.559
afterthoughts to talk about no we’re
0:48:53.920,0:48:56.720
good
0:48:54.559,0:48:58.000
uh before we go i do want to remind
