Disney Will Pay You to Star in the Upcoming ‘Haunted Mansion’ Movie
https://insidethemagic.net/2022/01/haunted-mansion-movie-casting-extras-ad1/?fbclid=IwAR0Dwn6KQbxkIPWrXjwH-MLpm_s8qyWftOTK7aDuXR9v7zT5UwDGMnM7QcY

If you are a fan of the Haunted Mansion and are looking forward to the upcoming live-action remake, we have some great news for you. It seems that the grim grinning ghosts are looking to cast you in the next Haunted Mansion film.
Disney has been diving deep into the world of live-action remakes.
We have seen a ton of animated classics remade such as Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Jungle Book, Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp, The Lion King and more
We’ve also seen new live-action takes on animated characters such as Cruella and Maleficent.
When it comes to Park adaptations of original IP, Disney has always been more hesitant.
Pirates of the Caribbean was the first ride to become a movie in 2003 starring Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, and even finding what would become the iconic face of the franchise was tough.
Robert De Niro turned down the roll and Disney was not sure if it would even find a theatrical release.
Later that year, Eddie Murphy’s Haunted Mansion would be released but would not find the same success as Pirates of the Caribbean.
In 2021, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Emily Blunt starred in Disney’s Jungle Cruise which has already announced a sequel.
Then, we discovered Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion would have a live-action movie with the working title of Joyride.
The cast includes Tiffany Haddish, LaKeith Stanfield, Owen Wilson, Rosario Dawson and Danny DeVito.
Justin Simien, whose credits include Dear White People and Bad Hair, is reportedly set to direct.
Now, the film is looking for extras and you can be one of them!
It was noted on Nola that:
Attention aspiring movie extras: a Disney feature film set to shoot in New Orleans is looking for a lot of you.
The movie, with the working title “Joyride,” is apparently a reboot of a 2003 film based on Disneyland’s “Haunted Mansion” attraction.
The production needs hundreds of locals, “males and females of all ethnicity and ages,” to populate various scenes as extras and in background roles.
Extras will be paid $161 for a 12-hour day on set.
They will also receive a $65 stipend every time the production requires that they take a COVID test.
Casting is being done by Alessi Hartigan Casting and aspiring extras should email ghostsinfilm@gmail.com with “NOLA extra” in the subject line.
Include name, cell phone number, location, current photos (selfies are acceptable) and measurements, including shirt, pant and shoe size.
The audition notice goes into depth on the plot of Joyride:
The plot reportedly revolves around a mother and son who buy a New Orleans mansion, only to discover it is haunted.
They encounter “various eccentric characters (who are) key to unlocking the spooky mystery”.
Those characters, according to a report last summer, include Harriet, a “hapless psychic who is hired to speak with the spirits at the Haunted Mansion,”
And Ben, who was “once an engineer working on a camera that could perceive paranormal activity, but after the death of his wife, his life fell to pieces.
Now he’s an unenthusiastic ghost tour guide in the French Quarter of New Orleans who no longer believes in the paranormal.”
You Won’t Bee-lieve the Buzz Around How Walt Disney World Resort Recycles Its Gingerbread Displays
https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/01/you-wont-bee-lieve-the-buzz-around-how-walt-disney-world-resort-recycles-its-gingerbread-displays/?fbclid=IwAR3uzPnyHJTW4Kntukijd3nZKZgY9aGTR_nZ3kw4I4eRYmbWDMGffxZqOKY

The life-sized gingerbread displays are a treasured favorite each holiday season here at the Walt Disney World Resort. Many guests visit year after year to experience and marvel at the beauty of these magnificent culinary creations.
But have you ever wondered what happens to the gingerbread displays once the holiday season is over?
I know you’re buzzing with anticipation. The answer is bees!
Barry Stockwell, Planned Work Specialist with Event Decorating Support explains:
“Ten years ago, when performing our annual gingerbread display cleaning, we noticed bees were very attracted to the sugar on the displays after deconstruction,”
“We decided to bring the display pieces to our Disney tree farm and lay them out in our field to give the bees a chance to collect the sugar on the wooden structures.”
It’s only natural we would look to nature to help us at Walt Disney World, since as a company, Disney is committed to conservation and caring for the environment.
With the bee populations declining around the world, Disney has made it a mission to provide pollinators with even more habitat and resources through pollinator-friendly gardens located across property.
And for the last decade we’ve surprised local bees with this sweet gift around the holidays.
Now, thousands of local bees visit the displays each year to enjoy this sugary treat, which helps the declining bee population by keeping them well-fed during the winter months when food sources are harder to find.
The recycling process begins after the holiday season has ended when the Walt Disney World Event Decorating Support team and Pastry Chefs begin removing gingerbread from the wooden structures used to build the gingerbread displays.
Once the gingerbread is removed, it’s recycled to use for compositing, leaving a wooden structure covered in royal icing made of sugar.
The team then breaks down the structure piece by piece and transports it to the Walt Disney World Resort tree farm.
Then, it’s all up to the bees to find the sugar-coated wooden pieces and collect the sugar.
After the bees have left, the wooden pieces are power washed with hot water and the display is stored until the next holiday season.
This story gets even sweeter!
The bees that visit the gingerbread displays come from right here in Central Florida.
“Honey bees can typically travel up to about two miles to search for nectar and pollen, and in this case sugar.” Zak Gezon, Conservation Manager for Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment said.
Keeping the bees well fed helps local farmers produce honey to harvest and sell to markets or even contribute to honey blends that are sold wholesale to large companies to use in delicious culinary creations, including, you guessed it, gingerbread.
Keep a lookout for these bees flying across property collecting nectar, sugar and pollinating the flowers around the parks and resorts.
They might just “bee” responsible for some of the delicious ingredients found in your favorite Disney dishes and desserts!

A Creative Disagreement Saved A Major Star Wars Planet From Destruction
https://www.slashfilm.com/737209/a-creative-disagreement-saved-a-major-star-wars-planet-from-destruction/
https://bit.ly/3Ku60fV
When “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” arrived in December 2015, both critics and general audiences tended to be pretty forgiving of its flaws.
Sure, it rehashed the plot from “A New Hope” and used contrivances to bring characters like Han Solo back into the fray, but it was also an energizing, loving ode to the original trilogy that tried to make a galaxy far, far away more inclusive.
At the same time, the movie’s attempts to tap into “Star Wars” fans’ nostalgia didn’t always work, like when it tried to recapture the pathos of the scene in “A New Hope” in which Princess Leia is forced to watch as the Death Star destroys her home planet of Alderaan by having the First Order use its own super-weapon, Starkiller Base, to blow up the New Republic’s capital on Hosnian Prime and the Hosnian system.
The reason this moment didn’t land?
Among other things, it left a lot of “Star Wars” fans confused, seeing as Coruscant had acted as the galactic capital of the Old Republic before the Galactic Empire rose to power, and continued to serve as the headquarters for the New Republic after the Empire’s downfall in the old “Star Wars” Expanded Universe.
So what, then, was the point of introducing a whole other planet that “Star Wars” fans had no attachment to and immediately blowing it up, rather than destroying Coruscant, which would’ve been a real emotional gut-punch?
According to a since-deleted tweet posted by Lucasfilm executive Pablo Hidalgo , “The Force Awakens” director J.J. Abrams had, in fact, intended for the First Order to destroy Coruscant in the film, but he was overruled and came up with the idea of Hosnian Prime being targeted by Starkiller Base instead.
Hidalgo explained
“Basically Abrams wanted it blown up; Lucasfilm Ltd. didn’t.
Hosnian Prime was the unsatisfying middle ground.
There are a handful of potential explanations for why “some folks” at Lucasfilm made that call.
For one, it’s plausible that certain people at the studio were already thinking about bringing the planet back in a future project, even when “The Force Awakens” was in pre-production.
After all, we now know that Coruscant played a central role in Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly’s original script draft for the third film in the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy, “Duel of the Fates,” so it’s possible a similar idea was in circulation at Lucasfilm before the pair came aboard.
It could also be that someone decided that destroying Coruscant would go over badly with more nostalgic “Star Wars” fans, perhaps anticipating something like the response to “The Last Jedi” and its more controversial creative choices.
Whatever the case, it seems this is one example of clunky storytelling from “The Force Awakens” that Abrams does not deserve the blame for.

Daniel Radcliffe to Play “Weird Al” Yankovic in Biopic That Will Be White & Nerdy
https://collider.com/daniel-radcliffe-weird-al-yankovic-biopic-roku/?utm_source=CL-FB-P&utm_medium=Social-Distribution&fbclid=IwAR2emSEBlpkaXjMOsnp_xjMrrYs55wIeL6Fd4BuyKkS79vEix7SVJhgIum8
https://bit.ly/3KtYq4X
Of all the musicians in all history, few are so genuinely deserving of biopic treatment as “Weird Al” Yankovic – the frizzy-haired, Hawaiian shirt-adorned dude who’s made a prolific career for himself pumping out delectable song parodies, from “Eat It,” to “White and Nerdy”.
Well, we’re all in luck: Roku announced today an all-new feature film about the Grammy-award winning polka songsmith, aptly titled Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, to be made available exclusively on The Roku Channel.
It’s described by the platform as holding nothing back in “exploring every facet of Yankovic’s life, from his meteoric rise to fame with early hits like “Eat It” and “Like a Surgeon” to his torrid celebrity love affairs and famously depraved lifestyle”.
They’re certainly not ones for hyperbole.
It gets weirder.
When you think of a casting for Al – with his aforementioned frizzy hair and Hawaiian shirts, goofiness, and his general air of beguilement – Daniel Radcliffe probably wouldn’t be first on your list.
But there we have it: Radcliffe, the erstwhile Harry Potter star, will play Al in the movie.
“When my last movie UHF came out in 1989, I made a solemn vow to my fans that I would release a major motion picture every 33 years, like clockwork.
I’m very happy to say we’re on schedule,” said Yankovic.
“And I am absolutely thrilled that Daniel Radcliffe will be portraying me in the film.
I have no doubt whatsoever that this is the role future generations will remember him for.”
If there’s any justice in the world!
“When Weird Al first sat me down against my will and told me his life story, I didn’t believe any of it, but I knew that we had to make a movie about it,” writer and director Eric Appel added, in a very earnest tone.
“There clearly aren’t enough biopic movies about famous musicians, and we were excited to shine a light on this incredibly true, unexaggerated story of Weird Al,” said Colin Davis, Roku’s Head of Original Scripted Programming.
“This is sincerely the ultimate combination of talent, creativity, and friends, coming together to make something genuinely funny, and we could not be prouder to call this film a Roku Original,” he continues.
Awards prognosticators will have their eyes firmly set on Weird when it eventually debuts: such a prestige biopic surely screams awards bona fides and, like Cats before it, will no doubt be tapped for a clean sweep come the season.
Titanic who?
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is written by Yankovic and Appel.
Alongside his directing duties, Appel serves as an executive producer.
The film is produced by Funny Or Die and Tango.
Yankovic also produces
A release date for the film is yet to be announced, but shooting begins in Los Angeles next month.
Elton John tests positive for COVID-19, postpones his Dallas concerts

Elton John’s recently revived Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour is hitting pause this week as the singer has tested positive for COVID-19.
John, who turns 75 in March, canceled his goodbye shows Tuesday and Wednesday at Dallas’ American Airlines Center and will reschedule the dates.
The shows were originally scheduled for June 2020, but postponed during the first wave of the pandemic.
In a statement to USA TODAY, John’s representatives said the singer, who is fully vaccinated and boosted, is experiencing only mild symptoms.
He’s expected to resume the tour Saturday in Little Rock, Arkansas.
John’s swan song launched in September 2018 with a planned 300 shows on the docket.
The tour chugged along until March 2020, when COVID-19 forced a nearly two-year break.
John returned to touring Jan. 19 with a performance in New Orleans.
The Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour has a slate of rescheduled dates – including Chicago, New York and Detroit – before wrapping this leg April 28 in Miami.
John then heads overseas before returning to North America for a run of stadiums starting July 15 in Philadelphia.
His prolonged goodbye to touring is now scheduled to end in summer 2023.
During the sidelining of his live performances, John hardly remained idle.
In October he released “The Lockdown Sessions,” a collection of duets with artists all recorded either via Zoom or under strict health and safety regulations.
The effort spawned “Cold Heart (Pnau Remix),” that marries “Rocket Man” and “Sacrifice” with a fresh vibe.
The hit returned John to the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time in 21 years and cemented his well-known appreciation of contemporary artists.

Being the Ricardos

During one production week of “I Love Lucy” — from Monday table read through Friday audience taping — Lucille Ball (Nicole Kidman) and Desi Arnaz (Javier Bardem) face a series of personal and professional crises that threaten their show, their careers and their marriage, in writer-director Aaron Sorkin’s behind-the-scenes drama.
Largely departing from its source material’s light-hearted tone, Being the Ricardos definitely wasn’t short on real-life drama. The film told the story of a whirlwind week for Desi Arnaz (Ricky) and Lucille Ball (Lucy). And in the midst of a dramatic Red Scare, Lucy found out about her second pregnancy, which disrupted their show’s production. Meanwhile, a story about Ricky came out in Confidential magazine, casting doubt on their marriage.
Although director Aaron Sorkin played fast and loose with the real-life timeline, most of the big events in the film were true. That, however, doesn’t mean that everything was entirely accurate. One of the biggest, not-so-secret secrets about I Love Lucy was the backstage bickering, specifically between Vivian Vance (Ethel) and William Frawley (Fred). But while Being the Ricardos incorporated some animosity between the two, all in all, it downplayed their feud.

The Expanse Season 6 Finale
https://www.amazon.com/The-Expanse-Season-6/dp/B09LGJ5QNB
https://amzn.to/3FRuj3H
I think I might be going to the well one too many times with the Expanse again, but it will surely be the last chance for a while to do so
The books and the show are so good I can’t recommend it enough
With us digesting the sixth and final episode of season 6 I think it deserves a little extra attention
Holden and the crew of the Rocinante fight alongside the Combined Fleet of Earth and Mars to protect the Inner Planets from Marco Inaros and his Free Navy’s campaign of death and destruction.
Meanwhile, on a distant planet beyond the Rings, a new power rises.
In the thrilling season finale, Inners and Belters fight side by side with the crew of the Rocinante in a last, massive, desperate battle with Marco and his Free Navy, with the fate of the Solar System, the Ring Gates, and of all humanity hanging in the balance.
Without giving too much in the way of spoilers here are my thoughts on this finale
As with so much of the rest of the series it was remarkably loyal to the books in its content
Reading things in the books we try to imagine how it would look on the screen and think they can’t possibly pull something like that off without a major motion picture budget
Then I watch the show and I’m impressed every time they pull it off and exceed my expectations
There was just enough foreshadowing to leave the uninitiated guessing as to what comes next if you haven’t read the books
The conclusion is tastefully done bringing the entire six seasons full circle with the cast of characters being exactly who we knew they were and a final act of following one’s conscience similar to what started everything back in season 1 episode 1
Our heroes drift off into the sunset with the promise of a new day and the looming shadow of another threat to the galaxy waiting in the wings
I can’t wait to see how the next season or series or movie or whatever it’s going to be turns out.
There’s just enough deviation from the books to make the shows fresh and interesting and leaving me guessing
But they are close enough in plot points to the books to be like wrapping yourself in a comfortable blanket while you enjoy watching the crew you’ve come to love do their thing.
I loved the finale, but I’m already jonesing for more…

Almost like I tried. So our.
00;04;51;11 – 00;04;53;04
Joseph
Viewers are listening audience.
00;04;53;10 – 00;04;54;12
Narrator
Right out of our home.
00;04;54;26 – 00;05;14;26
Michelle
I have one of my haunted mansion sweatshirts on. So if you are a fan of the Haunted Mansion and are looking looking forward to the upcoming live action remake, we have some great news for you. It seems that the grim, grinning ghosts are looking to cast you in the next Haunted Mansion film.
00;05;15;11 – 00;05;33;11
Michelle
Disney has been deep diving into the world of live action remakes. We’ve had a ton of animated classics that have now been remade into live action like Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Jungle Book, Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp, The Lion King, and more.
00;05;33;21 – 00;05;58;09
Michelle
So we’ve also seen that these live action takes on animated characters also such as Cruella and Maleficent. So when it comes to park adaptations, Disney has also been a little bit more hesitant. So Pirates of the Caribbean was the first ride to become a movie in 2003, starring Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, and even finding what would
00;05;58;09 – 00;06;19;23
Michelle
become the iconic face of the franchise was tough. Robert De Niro actually had turned down the role, and Disney was not sure if he would even find a theatrical release later that year. Eddie Murphy’s haunted mansion would be released, but would not find the same success as Pirates of the Caribbean in 2021.
00;06;19;27 – 00;06;41;08
Michelle
Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt starred in Jungle Cruise and Disney’s Jungle Cruise, which has already announced a sequel. Guess we should probably get to watch that? Yeah, yeah. So then, when it was discovered that Disneyland’s haunted mansion would have a live action movie in the works with the working title of Joyride.
00;06;41;19 – 00;07;01;28
Michelle
So we already know that the cast includes Tiffany Haddish, Lakeith Stanfield, Stanfield, Owen Wilson, Rosario Dawson and Danny DeVito. Now the film is looking for extras, and you can become one of them. So it was noted on NOLA.
00;07;02;02 – 00;07;23;10
Michelle
I guess it was a website that they had posted attention. Aspiring movie Extras, a Disney feature film set to shoot in New Orleans, is looking for a lot of you. The movie, which has a working title of Joy Ride, is apparently a reboot of the 2003 film based on Disney’s Haunted Mansion attraction.
00;07;23;20 – 00;07;43;19
Michelle
The production needs hundreds of locals, males and females of all ethnicities and ages to populate various scenes as extras in the background. Extras would be paid $161 for a twelve hour day on set. They would also was receive $65 stipend.
00;07;43;27 – 00;08;04;15
Michelle
Every time the production requires that, they take a COVID test. And it lists the casting agency, you know, and who you should email its ghosts in film at gmail.com with the subject of Nola Extra. So anybody that’s actually in the area?
00;08;05;02 – 00;08;25;13
Michelle
I don’t know if they’re still looking for people, but that would kind of kind of be cool. So the audition notice goes into a little more depth about the plot of the movie. It says the plot reportedly revolves around a mother and a son who by a New Orleans mansion, only to discover it’s haunted.
00;08;25;21 – 00;08;51;16
Michelle
They encounter various in centric characters who are the key to unlocking a spooky mystery. Those characters were, according to a report last summer, include Harriet, a hapless psychic who was hired to speak with the spirits of the haunted mansion, and Ben, who was a once once an engineer working on a camera that could perceive paranormal activity.
00;08;51;21 – 00;09;07;27
Michelle
But after the death of his wife, he fell. His life fell into pieces. So now he is on a ghost tour, an unenthusiastic ghost tour guide in the French Quarter of New Orleans, who no longer believes in the paranormal.
00;09;08;29 – 00;09;13;21
Michelle
So kind of cool that they’re, you know, looking for extras and.
00;09;14;19 – 00;09;17;07
Joseph
I think it’s kind of neat that they actually go into details about them.
00;09;17;08 – 00;09;19;25
Michelle
A little bit more about the plot than we’ve heard before.
00;09;19;25 – 00;09;20;06
Narrator
So.
00;09;20;08 – 00;09;23;03
Joseph
Because it’s not like the extras need to know what the plots about.
00;09;23;05 – 00;09;24;05
Narrator
Right, right, right.
00;09;24;09 – 00;09;28;11
Joseph
It almost seems like kind of a, you know, an unintentional leak that they had.
00;09;28;11 – 00;09;45;04
Michelle
Maybe, yeah, because you figure if it’s taking place in New Orleans, you figure people are going to be walking up and down the street and things like that, where the original movie was basically set only in the house and the only people that were in the house were the ghost.
00;09;45;04 – 00;09;47;00
Michelle
So there really weren’t extras.
00;09;47;15 – 00;09;48;06
Narrator
So to speak.
00;09;48;17 – 00;09;50;23
Joseph
So it was terrible to stop.
00;09;50;23 – 00;09;51;07
Narrator
It wasn’t that.
00;09;51;07 – 00;09;52;10
Narrator
Bad. It was.
00;09;52;11 – 00;10;05;16
Joseph
It was not that good was stop. You know, this reminds me of this reminds me of when they had to do the. Quasi emergency casting for the one episode of Mandalorian.
00;10;06;14 – 00;10;06;25
Narrator
Right?
00;10;06;26 – 00;10;08;02
Joseph
I’m not calling in the.
00;10;08;02 – 00;10;08;14
Michelle
five star.
00;10;08;17 – 00;10;09;00
Narrator
first.
00;10;09;01 – 00;10;09;13
Joseph
Verse to.
00;10;09;13 – 00;10;09;26
Narrator
Write.
00;10;10;00 – 00;10;11;19
Joseph
In a storm troopers as extras.
00;10;11;23 – 00;10;12;03
Narrator
Yeah.
00;10;12;12 – 00;10;13;23
Michelle
It’s like, this is kind of cool.
00;10;13;24 – 00;10;17;01
Joseph
This is like for those diehard haunted mansion people. This is.
00;10;17;01 – 00;10;17;17
Narrator
That that.
00;10;17;17 – 00;10;22;23
Michelle
You know, live down in that area. Hack. If we were closer, I would totally.
00;10;23;01 – 00;10;23;17
Narrator
You know.
00;10;23;17 – 00;10;26;10
Michelle
Do it to try and get a couple days.
00;10;26;12 – 00;10;27;24
Narrator
Yeah, yeah. On set.
00;10;28;03 – 00;10;28;27
Michelle
That would be cool.
00;10;29;11 – 00;10;32;19
Joseph
Maybe they’ll do another one up here. A sequel up here. I don’t.
00;10;32;19 – 00;10;34;02
Narrator
Know. Yeah, I don’t know.
00;10;34;07 – 00;10;37;08
Joseph
Maybe they’ll do is up in Jim Thorpe, where the one.
00;10;37;24 – 00;10;40;25
Narrator
Hotel, the hotel or right? That would be kind of cool.
00;10;40;25 – 00;10;41;16
Joseph
For the hotel.
00;10;41;16 – 00;10;45;25
Michelle
So that would be kind of cool. You hear that Disney do do it a little bit closer, please.
00;10;45;26 – 00;10;49;29
Joseph
Right? Do some real, you know, shooting of what inspired the mansion?
00;10;50;02 – 00;10;51;03
Narrator
Right, right.
00;10;51;05 – 00;10;52;05
Joseph
So what else do we have?
00;10;52;15 – 00;11;15;11
Michelle
So the life sized gingerbread displays are a treasured favorite each holiday season at Walt Disney World. So if you’re not familiar with it, the Grand Floridian actually has the largest of the gingerbread houses where it’s I don’t even I don’t think I have what the sizes are, but it’s it’s huge.
00;11;15;11 – 00;11;23;28
Michelle
It actually ends up being created every year of fresh gingerbread and then they actually have like a little store where.
00;11;24;06 – 00;11;24;24
Narrator
They sell.
00;11;25;02 – 00;11;41;15
Michelle
Sell out of the gingerbread house. These little things. So, you know, many guests visit year after year to experience and marvel at the beauty of these magnificent culinary creations. But have you ever wondered what happens to the gingerbread display once the holiday season is over?
00;11;41;25 – 00;12;05;11
Michelle
Well, I know you’re buzzing with anticipation, and the answer is bees. Barry Stockwell, planned work specialist with Event Coordinate with event decorating support, explains. Ten years ago, when performing our annual gingerbread display cleaning, we noticed bees were very attracted to the sugar on the display after destruction.
00;12;05;21 – 00;12;21;18
Michelle
So we decided to bring the display pieces to our Disney Tree Farm and lay them out in the field to give the bees a chance to collect the sugar on the wooden structures. So it’s only natural we would look to nature to help us at Walt Disney World.
00;12;21;23 – 00;12;41;05
Michelle
Since as a company, Disney is committed to conservation and caring for the environment. With the bee populations declining around the world, Disney has made it a mission to provide pollinators with even more habitat and resources through pollinator friendly gardens located across the property.
00;12;41;16 – 00;13;02;12
Michelle
And for the last decade, we’ve surprised local bees with this sweet gift around the holidays. So now thousands of local bees visit the displays each year to enjoy this sugary treat, which helps the declining bee population by keeping them well-fed during the winter months when food sources are harder to find.
00;13;02;25 – 00;13;28;03
Michelle
The recycling process begins after the holiday season has ended, with the Walt Disney World event decorating support team and pastry chefs removing gingerbread from the wooden structure used to build the gingerbread displays. Once the gingerbread is removed, it’s recycled to use for composting, leaving a wooden structure covered with royal icing made of sugar.
00;13;28;14 – 00;13;48;20
Michelle
The team then breaks down the structure piece by piece and transports it to the Walt Disney World Resort Tree Farm. Then it’s up to the bees to find the sugar coated wooden pieces and collect the sugar. After the bees have left, the wood pieces are power washed with hot water, and the display is stored until the next
00;13;48;20 – 00;14;05;14
Michelle
holiday season. So the story gets even sweeter. The bees that visit the gingerbread displays come from right here in Central Florida. Honeybees can typically travel up to about two miles in search of nectar and pollen, and in this case, sugar.
00;14;06;22 – 00;14;31;17
Michelle
Keeping the bees well-fed helps local farmers produce honey to harvest and sell to market or even contribute to honey blends that are sold wholesale to large companies to use and delicious culinary creations, including, you guessed it, gingerbread. So keeping a lookout for these bees flying across property, collecting nectar sugar and pollinating the flowers around the park and
00;14;31;17 – 00;14;44;06
Michelle
resorts, you might just be responsible. They I’m sorry. They might be responsible for some delicious ingredients found in your favorite Disney dishes and desserts.
00;14;44;20 – 00;14;49;29
Joseph
And you know, this doesn’t come as a surprise at all from Disney is very into.
00;14;50;08 – 00;14;52;07
Michelle
Inviting recycling and.
00;14;52;07 – 00;14;53;11
Narrator
Stuff. Right, right.
00;14;53;21 – 00;15;05;05
Joseph
And as much as I hammer on Disney, at least they do some of these things, right? Yeah, what I think is interesting is when. And they build these gingerbread houses. They have a full structure, a wooden structure. Mm-Hmm.
00;15;05;14 – 00;15;09;21
Joseph
And then they coat the wooden structure with this sweet spackle, I guess.
00;15;09;25 – 00;15;11;23
Narrator
Right. It’s the yeah, it’s the.
00;15;12;07 – 00;15;15;01
Joseph
And then they overlay the gingerbread on top of that.
00;15;15;02 – 00;15;15;11
Narrator
Right?
00;15;15;12 – 00;15;21;01
Joseph
But they take the gingerbread off. It’s not the gingerbread that the bees are eating. It’s that sweet spot.
00;15;21;07 – 00;15;21;10
Narrator
That.
00;15;21;18 – 00;15;24;24
Michelle
They like, right? They like the frosting that’s underneath it.
00;15;25;12 – 00;15;26;18
Narrator
And so, yeah.
00;15;26;21 – 00;15;29;13
Joseph
Bees are basically like children. They just want the frosting.
00;15;29;13 – 00;15;34;12
Michelle
They don’t want the cookie, but they do use the cookie to to compost, right? You know, so.
00;15;34;15 – 00;15;36;04
Joseph
They still recycle the cookie.
00;15;36;04 – 00;15;51;20
Michelle
Dough, right? And I’m sure there’s still probably little pieces of gingerbread, maybe, you know, that are left, but it’s nice that they don’t just, you know, compost everything. Hey, you know, and especially Florida, you know, they’re they’re almost as cold as.
00;15;51;20 – 00;15;52;24
Narrator
We are right now.
00;15;52;26 – 00;16;02;19
Joseph
You go down to Florida. Hmm. And you go down and you go to the trashcan to throw out, you’re saying, and the bees are all over the place. Just think that those bees are there for a reason.
00;16;02;20 – 00;16;03;01
Narrator
Yep.
00;16;04;02 – 00;16;06;11
Joseph
I’m not sure what the positive reason when you put your hand.
00;16;06;26 – 00;16;07;20
Narrator
Because you don’t want to.
00;16;08;02 – 00;16;12;02
Michelle
Hear, I’m giving you something, I’m giving you a tribute. Don’t hurt me.
00;16;13;16 – 00;16;37;14
Joseph
So that’s it for our Disney detective today. We’ll take a quick break and we’ll be back with our tales from the edge of the galaxy. For over seven years, the second Sith empire has been the Premiere Community Guild in the online game.
00;16;37;15 – 00;16;59;21
Joseph
Star Wars the Old Republic with hundreds of friendly and helpful active members, a weekly schedule of nightly events and your guild meet and greets and an active community both on the web and on Discord. The second of Empire is more than your typical gaming group.
00;17;00;17 – 00;17;22;10
Joseph
We’re family. Joining us on the star forward server for nightly events such as operations, flashpoints, world boss funds, Star Wars trivia, the Old Lottery and much more. Visit us on the Web today and W W W. But the second sip.
00;17;22;10 – 00;17;24;02
Narrator
And fire icon.
00;17;34;25 – 00;17;56;11
Joseph
So this week in our tales from the Edge of the Galaxy, how a creative disagreement ceived a major Star Wars planet from destruction. This one comes to us from slash film dot com. When Star Wars The Force Awakens arrived in December of 2015, both critics and general audiences tended to be pretty forgiving of its flaws.
00;17;57;01 – 00;18;12;05
Joseph
Sure, it rehashed the plot from a New Hope and use contrivances to bring characters like Han Solo back into the fray. But it was also an energizing, loving ode to the original trilogy that tried to make a galaxy far, far away a little more inclusive.
00;18;13;09 – 00;18;32;24
Joseph
At the same time, the movie’s attempt to tap into Star Wars fans nostalgia didn’t always work, like when it tried to capture the ethos of the scene in A New Hope in which Princess Leia is forced to watch as the Death Star destroys her home planet of Alderaan by having the first order use its own super weapon
00;18;32;24 – 00;18;56;26
Joseph
, Starkiller Base, to blow up the New Republic’s capital of Hosny and Prime in the housing system. The reason this moment didn’t land well, among other things, it left a lot of Star Wars fans confused, seeing as how Core Son has acted as the galactic capital of the Old Republic for the Galactic Empire, rose to power and continued
00;18;56;26 – 00;19;18;06
Joseph
to serve as headquarters for the New Republic. After the empire’s downfall in the old Star Wars expanded universe. So what then was the point of introducing a whole new planet that Star Wars fans had no attachment to and immediately blowing it up, rather than destroying Core Sun, which would have had a real emotional gut punch?
00;19;19;14 – 00;19;44;03
Joseph
Well, according to a since deleted tweet posted on Lucasfilm by Lucasfilm executives Pablo Hidalgo, The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams had in fact intended for the first order to destroy course on in the film, but he was overruled and came up with the idea of hosting and prime being targeted by Starkiller Base instead, Hidalgo explained in the
00;19;44;03 – 00;20;08;19
Joseph
post. Basically, Abrams wanted to blow it up. Lucasfilm Ltd. didn’t. Bosnian Prime was the unsatisfying middle ground. There are a handful of potential explanations for why some folks at Lucasfilm made that call. For one, it’s plausible that certain people at the studio were already thinking about bringing the planet back in a future project, even when The Force
00;20;08;19 – 00;20;29;16
Joseph
Awakens was in pre-production. After all, we now know that chorus played a central role in Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connelly’s original script draft for the third film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy Duel The Fates. So it’s possible a similar idea was in circulation at Lucasfilm before the pair came aboard.
00;20;30;18 – 00;20;57;11
Joseph
It’s also possible that someone decided that destroying course one would go over badly with the more nostalgic Star Wars fans perhaps anticipating something like the response to Last Jedi and its more controversial creative choices. However, you know, I would say if that was the case, then those people clearly left the company before Ryan Johnson murdered Last Jedi
00;20;58;09 – 00;21;14;11
Joseph
. Whatever the case, it seems this one example of clunky storytelling from Force Awakens. This is one example from a clunky storytelling from Force Awakens that Abrams does not deserve the blame for. And to be honest with you, it really.
00;21;15;12 – 00;21;30;11
Joseph
It left me scratching my head, too, because Hosni and Prime was never even mentioned until you get to the novels and the novels, the the novels that led up to Force Awakens didn’t come out until after The Force Awakens.
00;21;31;04 – 00;21;55;10
Joseph
So. It made no sense to anybody that you just invented this planet that you arbitrarily picked as the capital of the new Republican. So. And then the fact that you shoot one beam and it magically splits and destroys the entire system, planets at all seem to be clustered together is kind of questionable and I don’t know.
00;21;55;16 – 00;22;00;03
Joseph
There were just some really bad storytelling going on there to try and recapture that impact.
00;22;00;05 – 00;22;00;27
Narrator
Mm hmm. Yeah.
00;22;00;28 – 00;22;06;05
Joseph
So they didn’t do much better in the next movie.
00;22;06;05 – 00;22;06;13
Narrator
But.
00;22;08;10 – 00;22;30;09
Joseph
You should certainly couldn’t have done worse than, I think, The Last Jedi anyway. Instead of. Ragging on Brian Johnson too much. Let’s move on to some good Star Wars news. The new Star Wars Lego’s The New Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga trailer has a launch date reveal now.
00;22;31;06 – 00;22;57;06
Joseph
Lucasfilm Games tells us that they’ve announced the highly anticipated Lego Star Wars The Skywalker saga, which will arrive April fifth or 2022. Welcome news made even better by the debut of an extensive new trailer featuring the biggest look yet at gameplay worlds and the humor of Lego Star Wars.
00;22;57;28 – 00;23;15;01
Joseph

00;23;16;02 – 00;23;40;01
Joseph
It also offers an exciting mix of gameplay from chaining attacks and light saber combat to space battles. Players can also unlock. And choose from over 300 characters the most ever in a Lego Star Wars game. Some of the key changes to the Great Green Game franchise include the ability to explore the saga in any order.
00;23;40;23 – 00;24;00;08
Joseph
Players can dove into the Skywalker saga and access any of the nine Saga films right away in any order they choose. And they can direct where to go and how to play which. Sounds exceedingly confusing to me, but should be interesting this way you can skip Last Jedi if you’re white.
00;24;00;09 – 00;24;02;16
Michelle
You can skip all the bad ones.
00;24;03;05 – 00;24;20;07
Joseph
You can also play as iconic heroes and villains. There are hundreds of playable characters from throughout the galaxy and every era of the saga. Players can play as Luke Skywalker, Rey, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Finn, Debate eight and a legion of other heroes.
00;24;21;00 – 00;24;27;09
Joseph
Or they can turn to the dark side as Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, Kylo Ren, and more.
00;24;27;15 – 00;24;31;04
Michelle
Hmm, I wonder who you’ll be playing at?
00;24;32;05 – 00;24;32;25
Joseph
I’ll be.
00;24;32;25 – 00;24;33;06
Narrator
Wearing.
00;24;33;15 – 00;24;33;23
Michelle
A.
00;24;33;28 – 00;24;55;05
Joseph
Decidedly darker clothes than most endgame. You also get the laugh out loud Lego humor for all the unforgettable moments from the entire saga. They’re being retooled and new, fun filled, hilarious Lego humor. You also get to discover legendary locales.
00;24;55;16 – 00;25;11;22
Joseph
Players can visit familiar places from their favorite Star Wars films, such as The Desert of Ghosts, The Swamps of Digger and the Snow Fields of Starkiller Base. They can then travel through space and revisit any planet at any time.
00;25;12;23 – 00;25;34;03
Joseph
There’s experience of hub areas based on memorable settings from the films, which offer fun quests and more to explore. And the biggest thing that they’re really touting about the new game is the powerful player experiences players can play on the light side to the dark side, master combat and take control of ships and vehicles from powering adventures
00;25;34;03 – 00;25;42;22
Joseph
throughout the galaxy. So I threw this one in here because it was it’s been delayed seemingly for ever now.
00;25;42;22 – 00;25;43;01
Narrator
Yeah.
00;25;43;12 – 00;26;03;27
Joseph
We’ve talked about the delays a couple of times, and a lot of people have been excited about this. I used to play this with Sam. I’ve played them with Madison. They’re fun. They’re carefree. It’s a great way for parents really to interact with their kids in a video game.
00;26;03;28 – 00;26;08;03
Joseph
Mm-Hmm. And it’s a it’s a it’s a fun thing that I think we all enjoy.
00;26;08;03 – 00;26;22;02
Michelle
Absolutely. I think, Matty, you know, even though she’s older, she would still enjoy playing this because absolutely, you know, because the other thing too is she’s still into Legos, right? You know, very much a Lego.
00;26;22;20 – 00;26;24;02

Right, she likes to build things. And, you know, and that’s part of playing because you have to get pieces to make staff. And, you know, plus it’s cute.
00;26;34;24 – 00;26;43;00
Joseph
Yeah, they do a really good job of introducing the collectability, the adventure, the story. And, you know, they kind of blend it all together. They’ve always done a very good job.
00;26;43;14 – 00;26;43;25
Narrator
Yeah.
00;26;44;12 – 00;26;49;09
Joseph
So, you know, it’ll come out in April. I’m sure it’ll be getting it and playing it extensively.
00;26;49;10 – 00;26;50;26
Michelle
I have no doubt.

So of all the musicians in all of history, few are so genuinely deserving of a biopic treatment as Weird Al Yankovic, the frizzy haired Hawaiian shirt adoring dude who’s made a prolific career for himself, pumping out delectable song parodies from eat it to white and nerdy.
00;28;40;06 – 00;29;09;03
Michelle
Well, we’re all now in luck. So that fabulous no roko, it still makes me laugh. Oh, and you can’t get it on Apple TV? I already look. By the way, Roku announced last week that an all new feature film about the Grammy Award winning polka songsmith aptly titled Weird, the Al Yankovic story is going to be made
00;29;09;03 – 00;29;36;16
Michelle
available exclusively on The Roku Channel. It’s described by the platform as holding nothing back and exploring every facet of Yanukovych’s life, from his meteoric rise to fame with early hits like Eat It and Like a Surgeon to his torrid celebrity love affairs and famously depraved lifestyle, which is so not the case.
00;29;37;12 – 00;30;03;18
Michelle
There’s certainly not one for hyperbole. And it gets even weirder when you think of casting for Elle in his aforementioned frizzy hair and Hawaiian shirts, goofiness and his general air of belligerence. Daniel, I totally messed that up anyway, but Daniel Radcliffe probably wouldn’t be the first person that comes to mind.
00;30;03;26 – 00;30;25;07
Michelle
But that’s what it is. Radcliffe, the Harry Potter star, will be playing out in the movie, Al said. When my last film, UHF came out in 1989, I made a solemn vow to my fans that I would release a major motion picture every 33 years like clockwork.
00;30;25;16 – 00;30;39;19
Michelle
And I’m very happy to say that we’re on schedule, and I’m absolutely thrilled that Daniel Radcliffe will be portraying me in the film. I have no doubt whatsoever that this is the role future generations will remember him for.
00;30;40;00 – 00;30;59;11
Michelle
And if there’s any justice in the world when Weird Al first sat down against my will and told me his life story, I didn’t believe any of it, but I knew that we had to make it into a movie, said writer and director Eric abow in a very earnest tone.
00;31;00;05 – 00;31;29;19
Michelle
We’re clearly, clearly aren’t enough biopic movies about famous musicians, and we were excited to shine a light on this incredibly true and exaggerated story of Weird Al. This is sincerely the ultimate combination of talent, talent, creativity and friends coming together to make something genuinely funny, and we could not be prouder to call this film a Roku original
00;31;29;20 – 00;31;51;08
Michelle
, he continued. The Weird Al Story is written by Yankovic and Apel, and along with his directing duties, Apple will serve as the executive producer. The film is being produced by Funny or Die, and Tango and Yankovic also serves as producer.
00;31;51;14 – 00;31;56;27
Michelle
The release date has not been announced, but shooting actually begins next month.
00;31;57;29 – 00;32;14;14
Joseph
So I have to I have to say that I’m very glad to see that they’re coming out with this movie because it it lessens the guilt I feel over not buying the tickets the Al Yankovic show that’s coming into our area.
00;32;14;15 – 00;32;15;00
Narrator
Yes.
00;32;15;15 – 00;32;18;04
Joseph
So I feel a little less bad about that.
00;32;18;04 – 00;32;23;06
Michelle
But because we’re hopefully going to get a movie within a year or so.
00;32;23;08 – 00;32;28;06
Joseph
Right. So we’ll have to sit upstairs in a bedroom with the Roku TV and watch it because that’s the only TV.
00;32;28;08 – 00;32;29;08
Narrator
Movies TV.
00;32;29;08 – 00;32;30;06
Michelle
We have at all.
00;32;30;08 – 00;32;31;03
Narrator
But yeah.
00;32;31;04 – 00;32;33;19
Joseph
So I mean, just the way they’re hoping to sudden, you.
00;32;33;19 – 00;32;35;09
Narrator
Know, oh, it is.
00;32;35;09 – 00;32;51;00
Michelle
It has to be, you know, and and, you know, every couple of days. Weird Al is, you know, tweeting about something about. You know, he was excited about it. So it wasn’t like it was just a story that nobody picked up.
00;32;51;12 – 00;32;57;13
Michelle
All these, you know, and it’s different. Celebrities are talking about it and they’re like, Oh my god.
00;32;57;13 – 00;32;59;04
Narrator
Why did it take so long?
00;32;59;04 – 00;33;04;23
Joseph
It’s almost appropriate that it’s on the most obscure streaming channel on the internet, right?
00;33;04;28 – 00;33;28;19
Michelle
Right? You know, if we still had, you know, public access television, that’s where you know it, it would be put on. And what was funny because they they a couple of different articles talked about the original spoof That Funny or Die did, which I’m sure you can, you know, do a Google search and find it for the
00;33;28;19 – 00;33;48;19
Michelle
unauthorized, you know, weird al story. And, you know, talks about, you know, how he was dating Madonna for a while. Right? And it was all this, and it was funny because we we went to his last concert. They showed, you know, most of that to some of her fans that hadn’t seen it before.
00;33;48;20 – 00;34;06;10
Michelle
That was their first look into it or for, you know, the younger fans. So that’s a really funny one. You know, it’s probably like a ten minute, you know, a video clip to just watch and see where this might actually be a little bit more serious, but still kind of along the, you know, how can you take
00;34;06;10 – 00;34;08;21
Michelle
me seriously because this is what I do?
00;34;08;28 – 00;34;12;15
Joseph
I think definitely looking forward to we’re all we’re all fans in this house.
00;34;12;16 – 00;34;13;12
Narrator
Yes, we are.
00;34;14;01 – 00;34;35;26
Joseph
So our next story, I got to set this one up because our next story we like we said, we skip doing a show last week. The first part of this story was done for last week, and in that short period of time, it changed so much that the entire scenario has now flipped.
00;34;35;26 – 00;34;37;12
Joseph
So tell us about this one.
00;34;37;13 – 00;34;47;18
Michelle
Yes, so Elton John had revived his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour after it had hit pause for.
00;34;48;24 – 00;34;49;09
Narrator
For.
00;34;50;10 – 00;35;09;20
Michelle
The pandemic starting, and now they’ve had to postpone it because he’s now tested positive for COVID. So Elton John, who turns 75 in March, canceled his goodbye shows Tuesday and Wednesday at Dallas’s American Airlines Center and will reschedule those dates.
00;35;10;02 – 00;35;29;11
Michelle
The shows were originally scheduled for June of 2020, but postponed during the first wave of the pandemic. In a statement to USA Today, John’s representatives said that the singer, who is fully vaccinated and boosted, is experiencing only mild symptoms.
00;35;30;07 – 00;35;53;26
Michelle
He’s expected to resume the tour on Saturday in Little Rock, Arkansas. John’s swan song launched in September of 2018 with a planned 300 shows on the docket. The tour chugged along up until March of 2020, when COVID 19 forced a nearly two year break.
00;35;54;10 – 00;36;21;12
Michelle
John returned to touring January 19th with a performance in New Orleans. The Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour has a slate of scheduled dates, including Chicago, New York and Detroit, before wrapping this leg in April. On April 28th in Miami, then John heads overseas before returning to North America for a run of stadiums starting in July in Philadelphia
00;36;21;29 – 00;36;48;25
Michelle
. His prolonged goodbye tour is now scheduled to end summer of 2023. So much for wrapping it up any time soon. So during the sidelining of his live performances, John hardly remained idle. In October, he released the lockdown sessions, a collections of duets with artists all recorded either via Zoom or under strict health and safety regulations.
00;36;49;06 – 00;37;08;23
Michelle
The effort spawned the song Cold Heart, which marries Rocketman and sacrifice with a ship with a fresh vibe. The hit return John to the Billboard Top 100 for the first time in 21 years and cemented his well-known appreciation of contemporary artists.
00;37;09;17 – 00;37;14;10
Joseph
So, yeah, it’s good to hear that he’s only experiencing mild symptoms.
00;37;14;15 – 00;37;16;12
Narrator
Yeah, right now, absolutely.
00;37;16;22 – 00;37;27;00
Joseph
But, you know, I got a get credit. I mean, he planned an exceedingly long farewell tour for someone his age, and you know, he’s sticking with it.
00;37;27;01 – 00;37;27;13
Narrator
Yeah.
00;37;27;17 – 00;37;40;10
Joseph
You know, we just had the news that Adele had to cancel her residency, right or postpone her residency in Vegas because of COVID. Mm hmm. So it’s a really tough time to be doing these types of.
00;37;40;11 – 00;38;04;02
Michelle
Crimes, right? And and that’s where I guess, you know, where we are, where we had, you know, talking about we’re now, we had the opportunity to buy tickets. The concert isn’t coming to our area until October. And you know, part of it was, well, we can’t really get good seats, but do we really by October, do we
00;38;04;02 – 00;38;06;04
Michelle
want to be sitting with people?
00;38;06;05 – 00;38;07;09
Narrator
And it’s like we.
00;38;07;09 – 00;38;14;11
Joseph
Got an opportunity to get tickets to see eagles. And I love the Eagles. I’d love to go see him again. We’ve seen him three times now, four times.
00;38;14;12 – 00;38;17;13
Michelle
So but that but the Eagles concerts.
00;38;17;23 – 00;38;18;12
Joseph
A couple of weeks.
00;38;18;14 – 00;38;20;16
Michelle
Was, yeah, it was in two months.
00;38;20;16 – 00;38;24;22
Joseph
And it’s like, I’m ready to go back into an arena.
00;38;24;22 – 00;38;36;06
Michelle
That’s right. And that’s the other thing too, is it would be an indoor arena. It’s not even like, Oh, well, it’s outside and we can walk around the concourse and, you know, maybe nobody will be sitting next to us.
00;38;36;07 – 00;38;39;02
Michelle
Ha ha ha. Yeah. So it’s.
00;38;39;15 – 00;38;44;17
Joseph
Yeah, if I’m going to pay what it costs to go to an Eagles concert, I don’t wanna risk my life doing.
00;38;44;17 – 00;38;45;11
Narrator
It too yet.
00;38;45;22 – 00;38;47;15
Michelle
It was going to be a mortgage pay.
00;38;48;01 – 00;38;48;18
Narrator
So.
00;38;49;20 – 00;38;52;08
Joseph
Yeah, I mean, we wish him well.
00;38;52;08 – 00;38;53;15
Narrator
We hope he absolutely.
00;38;53;15 – 00;39;06;08
Joseph
Gets better quickly. I would probably would hold off on that farewell tour until things calmed down quite a bit. I mean, I know he wants to get it over with and retire, but you might just have to retire, dude like.
00;39;07;03 – 00;39;07;20
Narrator
It might be.
00;39;07;23 – 00;39;09;09
Michelle
That would be a shame if you.
00;39;09;09 – 00;39;11;08
Narrator
Know, but he wasn’t. You got to do.
00;39;11;08 – 00;39;12;20
Joseph
What’s right for you and your family.
00;39;12;22 – 00;39;14;23
Narrator
Absolutely. And that’s the idea.
00;39;14;23 – 00;39;16;22
Joseph
His idea is he wants to retire and.
00;39;16;22 – 00;39;17;21
Michelle
To spend more time with.
00;39;17;21 – 00;39;28;03
Joseph
That time with his family. And so it’s like, that’s the important. The thing that’s the driver here, and yeah, you know, you can’t put your health at risk in the process of doing so.
00;39;28;04 – 00;39;28;15
Narrator
That is.
00;39;28;15 – 00;39;43;01
Joseph
True. We’d all love to see him. I’d love to see him again. We saw him in concert a few years back where he and Billy Joel were touring together. Puts on a fantastic show. I’d love to see him again, but you got to do what’s right for for you and your your family.
00;39;43;10 – 00;39;43;22
Narrator
Yep.
00;39;43;23 – 00;40;02;13
Joseph
So but that was it for our entertainment news this week. We’ll be back in a few seconds with our insightful pick of the week. You’re who you’re sleeping.
00;40;03;04 – 00;40;15;24
Michelle
So my insightful pick is a movie that came out in theaters at the end of the year, but also was released on Amazon Prime and it is being the Ricardos. So the.
00;40;15;24 – 00;40;16;28
Narrator
Movie takes place.
00;40;16;28 – 00;40;44;09
Michelle
During one week of production of the I Love Lucy show from Monday’s table read through Friday’s audience taping Lucille Ball, who is played by Nicole Kidman and does Desi Arnett bla bla bla bla bla. Desi Arnaz, who is played by Javier Bardem, face a series of personal and professional crises that threaten their show, their careers and their
00;40;44;09 – 00;41;12;19
Michelle
marriage. In writer director Aaron Sorkin’s behind the scenes drama, so largely departing from its source material’s lighthearted tone, being the Ricardos defined definitely wasn’t short on real life drama. The film was told of a whirlwind week for Desi and Lucy, and in the midst of this dramatic red scare, Lucy has found out that she is now pregnant
00;41;12;24 – 00;41;33;28
Michelle
with her second child, which kind of puts the whole show’s production in a tailspin. And then there’s a story about Ricky that comes out that he might be cheating on his marriage. So although director Aaron Sorkin played fast and loose with the real life timeline, most of the events in the film were true.
00;41;34;07 – 00;41;58;10
Michelle
It just didn’t happen that accurately or within that one week. one of the largest not so secret secrets about I Love Lucy was the backstage bickering specifically between Vivian Vance and William Frawley, who played Ethel and Fred. But while being the Ricardos incorporated some animosity between the two.
00;41;58;15 – 00;42;16;12
Michelle
All in all, it downplayed their feud. So this was a very interesting again. It was a biopic, so you know, again, the different aspects of it were were true. All these different things had kind of happened, but not in the timeline that they showed.
00;42;16;12 – 00;42;32;12
Michelle
It didn’t just all happen in one week. They kind of do it almost like a little bit of a documentary where they have some of the original writers who have all passed away. None of them are alive saying, Oh, this is what happened that week.
00;42;33;00 – 00;42;39;20
Michelle
You know, kind of introducing how how it goes on. And then you kind of.
00;42;39;28 – 00;42;40;05
Narrator
Like a.
00;42;40;06 – 00;42;41;01
Joseph
Docu drama.
00;42;41;05 – 00;42;58;25
Michelle
Yeah, kind of like a docu drama. And then they do some, some flashbacks, you know, you can kind of see where, you know, Lucille Ball, you know, she where, you know, she was a B actress. She was a contract player for so many years and she finally gets let go.
00;42;58;25 – 00;43;24;01
Michelle
And it’s like, Well, now what am I going to do? And and you know where she meets desi and how that whole relationship started and things like that? And then that, you know, Desi didn’t get as much of the accolades for, you know, what he brought to the table with producing the show and doing all these ideas
00;43;24;01 – 00;43;50;07
Michelle
and things with the cameras and, you know, things that they do nowadays, which sitcoms were all started by him? It was all his idea. So it was very interesting to see that. And then again, the relationship between Vivian and Lucille, because, you know, Vivian, you know, wanted to be kind of the sexy your friend, but they needed
00;43;50;07 – 00;44;05;28
Michelle
her to be frumpy, so they got mad at her when she was losing weight. And then the other thing too, and I never it never really dawned on me. There was like a 20 years, 8:20 year age difference between Vivian Vance and William Frawley, and he’s the husband and wife.
00;44;05;28 – 00;44;21;01
Michelle
So like, it never dawned on me that there was such an age difference, and that was a big animosity. You know, so a lot of the bickering that you saw on the show went on in, you know, the daily routine and whatnot.
00;44;21;01 – 00;44;31;09
Michelle
And at the end of the film, they do have a little blurb about, you know, how long the show lasted and that, you know, right after the show lasted. That’s when they filed for divorce and, you know, whatnot.
00;44;31;09 – 00;44;49;12
Michelle
So they gave you the realistic, you know, background. But it was it was very well done. If you’re a fan of, you know, I love Lucy or to get a sneak peek of it now, I think there’s actually another I Love Lucy documentary that that’s coming out as well.
00;44;49;12 – 00;44;58;06
Michelle
So, you know, seems to be a hot topic, you know, right now. So very, very good. If you’re if you’re, you know, interested in little biopics like the.
00;44;58;23 – 00;44;59;20
Narrator
Good for you. Thank you.
00;45;05;08 – 00;45;11;27
Joseph
So at the risk of beating a dead horse here, I’m going to talk once again about The Expanse, this.
00;45;11;27 – 00;45;14;10
Narrator
Time your favorite geographically.
00;45;14;16 – 00;45;26;18
Joseph
The Season six finale, and I think I may be going to the, well, one too many times with the experience again, but it’ll surely be the last chance for a while to do so. So the books in the show are so good.
00;45;26;18 – 00;45;49;12
Joseph
I can’t recommend it enough, obviously, with us digesting the sixth and final episode of season six, I think it deserves a little extra attention. Holden and the crew of the Rosati fight alongside the combined fleet of Earth Bar and Mars to protect the inner planets from Marco and Arrows and his Free Navy’s campaign of death and destruction
00;45;50;06 – 00;46;06;20
Joseph
. Meanwhile, on a distant planet beyond the rings and new power rises in the thrilling season finale, which I love how the term ended the season finale now the series finale. So I’m curious if the wording of the word plan is interesting or significant.
00;46;07;27 – 00;46;22;20
Joseph
Injuries and belters fight side by side with the crew of the rationality in a last massive, desperate battle with Marco and his free navy with the fate of the Solar System, the ring gates and all of humanity hanging in the balance.
00;46;23;14 – 00;46;43;15
Joseph
So without giving away too much in the way of spoilers, here’s my thoughts on the finale. And with so much of the rest of the series, it was remarkably loyal to the books and its content. Reading things in the books, we always try to imagine how it would look on screen and, you know, think they can’t possibly
00;46;43;15 – 00;47;03;19
Joseph
pull something like that off without a major motion picture budget. Then they watch the show and I’m impressed every time they pull it off and they exceed my expectations. There was just enough foreshadowing to leave the uninitiated guessing as to what comes next if you haven’t read the books.
00;47;03;25 – 00;47;30;14
Joseph
So we put enough teasers in there to kind of whet your appetite. The conclusion itself is tastefully done, bringing the entire six seasons full circle with a cast of characters being exactly who we knew they were. And a final act of following one’s conscience conscience, similar to what started everything back in season one, episode one, our heroes
00;47;30;14 – 00;47;45;18
Joseph
dramatically drift off into the sunset with the promise of a new day and the looming shadow of yet another threat to the galaxy waiting in the wings. I can’t wait to see how the next season or series or movie or whatever it’s going to be, turns out.
00;47;46;12 – 00;48;03;24
Joseph
There’s just enough deviation from the books to make the shows fresh and interesting and leaving me guessing which I like. But they also close enough plot points to the books to be like wrapping yourself in a comfortable blanket while you enjoy watching your crew, the crew you’ve come to love doing their thing.
00;48;04;16 – 00;48;24;06
Joseph
I love the finality of the finale, but I’m already jonesing for more. So hopefully we won’t miss the experience for too long. There’s rumors that it’s going to be coming back in another series that a sequel series that they termed it as and possibly a movie.
00;48;25;09 – 00;48;44;08
Joseph
They’re referring to season the episode six as the season finale, not the series finale, so that gives me some hope. There’s a ton of story left after they got three novels left to delve into the story. They’ve already set the plot points for the next novel, and I’m interested to see where they go with it.
00;48;44;10 – 00;48;52;12
Michelle
And the other thing, too, that we haven’t. Figured out how to do yet or look for is that they’re supposed to be these.
00;48;52;14 – 00;48;53;13
Joseph
Little webs, the.
00;48;53;13 – 00;49;02;20
Michelle
Little web segments that are intertwined, if you look on a device, you can’t do it. If you’re watching it on Apple TV.
00;49;02;20 – 00;49;02;29
Narrator
Or you.
00;49;03;01 – 00;49;04;04
Joseph
Have to do it on a tablet.
00;49;04;04 – 00;49;08;24
Michelle
You have to do it on a tablet. So that would be interesting to kind of go back through to.
00;49;09;05 – 00;49;15;14
Joseph
It amounts to about a half hour’s worth of material, but it’s definitely worth watching. Yes, I think there’s four or five.
00;49;15;19 – 00;49;16;00
Narrator
Yeah.
00;49;16;00 – 00;49;19;00
Michelle
So that’s something we need to to kind of dig through and.
00;49;19;00 – 00;49;19;24
Narrator
I’ve seen so.
00;49;19;27 – 00;49;23;12
Joseph
So we’ll definitely be doing that to tide us over until we get some.
00;49;23;12 – 00;49;23;25
Narrator
More.
00;49;24;09 – 00;49;37;29
Joseph
Experience. So that was my pick. We’ll be right back with our with off. Thank you. Mm-Hmm. So we have one after a thought today was.
00;49;38;00 – 00;49;38;12
Narrator
You that.
00;49;39;07 – 00;49;40;12
Michelle
It is.
00;49;40;15 – 00;49;41;08
Joseph
All OK.
00;49;43;23 – 00;50;04;11
Michelle
I didn’t want to steal your thunder. That is the first weekend in March. It is Saturday, March fifth and Sunday, March sixth. Children twelve and under are. I’m sorry for four to twelve are free anything. Or I’m sorry.
00;50;05;09 – 00;50;08;16
Michelle
What children? Oh, was weird. The way it’s so.
00;50;08;16 – 00;50;09;23
Joseph
twelve or five.
00;50;10;00 – 00;50;14;26
Michelle
Right are $5 with adults and then ten and under are free.
00;50;14;28 – 00;50;16;09
Joseph
And that so Saturday.
00;50;16;09 – 00;50;17;19
Michelle
Oh, on Saturday.
00;50;17;22 – 00;50;18;11
Narrator
Gotcha.
00;50;18;12 – 00;50;20;12
Joseph
I think you wrote this.
00;50;21;16 – 00;50;27;09
Michelle
So anyway, children ten and under free on Sunday, but on Saturday, it seems.
00;50;27;10 – 00;50;29;05
Joseph
So good to have the kids go Sunday.
00;50;29;10 – 00;50;44;23
Michelle
Sunday, it’s free. I know Sunday they do a costume contest. They have, you know, a bunch of local artists show up there, obviously bunch of different vendors selling new toys, old toys.
00;50;44;27 – 00;50;53;11
Joseph
So even if you’re not into toys, go to Zillow.com just so you can get into the fuge and said It’s the coolest venue I’ve ever been.
00;50;53;12 – 00;51;13;29
Michelle
Yes, if you are any way, shape or form into space stuff, NASCAR, you know anything, anything to do with that sci fi, even. It’s such a cool place. Unfortunately, some of the area, they don’t have as much to look at as they used to.
00;51;13;29 – 00;51;21;04
Michelle
They got rid of some of the displays and stuff. But just the main room, you’re sitting there and there’s it. Is the centrifuge.
00;51;21;04 – 00;51;22;10
Narrator
Right there, the.
00;51;22;10 – 00;51;44;19
Joseph
World’s largest centrifuge? It’s so powerful they actually had to specially located here. So because the bedrock is so close to the surface of the ground, they had the anchor in the bedrock. And any time they spun it up, they had to notify the local power company because they had to put extra power on the grid to handle
00;51;44;19 – 00;51;44;22
Joseph
it.
00;51;44;22 – 00;51;56;00
Michelle
I believe it, but it’s cool because, you know, one of the areas where you go upstairs, it’s the little control room, right? And all the stuff, you know is still there and you kind of walk. And then here’s a banquet.
00;51;56;00 – 00;51;57;06
Narrator
Room, right? Right.
00;51;57;08 – 00;52;13;02
Michelle
It’s just a very cool, you know, feel to it, you know, and it’s one that we look forward to. Unfortunately, when they had it last year, you weren’t feeling that great. So Matty and I went and met up with some friends and went to it.
00;52;13;02 – 00;52;13;22
Narrator
So I.
00;52;13;22 – 00;52;19;03
Joseph
Don’t care. You’re wheeling me out there in a wheelchair. This time I’m going, I’m not missing this year.
00;52;19;07 – 00;52;26;23
Michelle
Yeah, yeah. Very, very cool. And you find just strange and unique things. And you know, the.
00;52;26;25 – 00;52;29;10
Joseph
A lot of vendors, great selection of vendors.
00;52;29;10 – 00;52;30;11
Narrator
There. Yeah, yeah.
00;52;30;11 – 00;52;34;06
Joseph
Artists, everything. It’s really it’s one of the best ones in the area.
00;52;34;06 – 00;52;34;28
Narrator
Yeah, yeah.
00;52;35;13 – 00;52;39;02
Joseph
So anyway, that’s March fifth and sixth.
00;52;41;11 – 00;52;42;26
Michelle
In Warminster, Pennsylvania.
00;52;42;27 – 00;52;44;02
Narrator
Thank you. No problem.
