After a week off we’re back with a discussion on Personal Freedom for Teens. We discuss how the proper balance of freedom and boundaries is important for allowing our teens to grow, mature and take on new responsibilities. We’ll look at some of the issues that parents face when granting personal freedoms to teens. We’ll also look at some of the temptations and consequences of too much personal freedom in teens. We take a look at how to best balance the need for freedom for teens to explore who they are and who they want to be while still maintaining that layer of protection that all parents feel for their children.
This week we take a look at some common goals that teens have for the near and long term future. We’ll examine which short term goals are worth exploring and the benefits they offer. We will also look at how to tackle the bigger long term goals and why you want to start making plans in advance for them in order to make them more obtainable.
We will then explore hints and advice on how parents, guardians, friends and loved ones can help their teen to achieve these goals. We’ll look at how important it is for teens to pursue goals that are relevant to themselves and not necessarily pursue goals based on other peoples desires. We will also look at how we can help teens achieve their goals and stay on the path to success in the long run.
Respect is like money. It takes time and effort to earn but can be squandered very easily. This week we talk about what respect is, why it is important not only in our youth but all through life. We’ll explore the various ways in which we show each other respect and how to build a model of respect for society. Finally we’ll explore ways that parents can help build a culture of respect for our children and set the right example, encouraging our children to be respectful not only of others but most importantly respectful of themselves.
