This week we are talking about Cultural Appropriation. We will help you understand what cultural appropriation is by looking at the meanings associated with the phrase and other vocabulary associated with cultural appropriation. We’ll take a look at some real world examples of cultural appropriation and why they are considered cultural appropriation. And finally we’ll look at ways to know if something is cultural appropriation and how to avoid cultural appropriation in our everyday lives.
We decided to change things up a bit for our Halloween episode and have some fun. We decorated the studio set, threw on our costumes and decided to play a game of “Would You Rather”.
In this episode we ask Madison a serious of questions on topics such as Technology, Pop Culture, Family, School, Food and Fantasy. We give Madison two choices and she needs to pick which one she would rather go with. It’s a fun and interesting little game of personality questions that we play at home from time to time. This time we’re asking the questions on the podcast and getting the answers on the fly.
This week we take a look at some of the nutritional requirements of teens. We’ll look at what teens should be eating for healthy growth and some of the more obscure things to avoid as well. Then we’ll talk about the importance of the Family Dinner. The benefits go well beyond the nutritional intake and can help emotionally and intellectually and play a major role in a teen’s personal growth.
In our last segment we’ll talk about the benefits of getting teens into the kitchen and involved in cooking. It provides an opportunity for quality time, teaches self reliance and can build self confidence. We’ll also talk about some of the things that Madison likes to cook and show her in action making two different meals.
In this weeks question and answer session we take a look at food, possessions and money. We ask Madison about her favorite foods, favorite desserts, what a typical school lunch entails, what her favorite restaurants are and more.
In our possessions segment we’ll find out where Madison typically shops for close, what her style and clothing preferences are, we’ll talk about her favorite toys, how neat she keeps her room and some other philosophical questions.
In our money segment we talk about how Madison likes to spend and/or save her money. We’ll also throw a few scenarios at her about how she’d spend money under some theoretical circumstances.

This week we follow up on some of the things we discussed in last weeks Body Image podcast when we discuss Eating Disorders. We highlight two specific disorders, Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa. We look at some of the common symptoms and learn the signs to watch out for so that we can help out those who might be suffering from these afflictions.
We also take a look at a typical teen diet, some of the challenges facing teens with meal scheduling and nutrition. We learn that despite what we might consider unhealthy eating habits that each of us is unique in our dietary needs and that we can not look at our eating habits from meal to meal. We have to look at our eating habits as a long term dietary regimen to ensure a healthy lifestyle.
