Teens today are often described as being the most materialistic generation in history.
Whether this is accurate or not, it’s hard to argue that many teens today do exhibit materialistic tendencies.
On this episode of Insights Into Teens we’ll explore teen materialism, we’ll take a look at the contributing factors, and we’ll look at how to help teens cope with materialism.
Beauty is subjective and perceptive. Every day many people look into the mirror, thinking that they’d change so many things if they really could. They use beauty products to hide what they naturally have and what they don’t like. But when they try to fit into someone else’s definition of beauty, do they truly understand what beauty really is? On this episode of Insights Into Teens we’ll explore what beauty is, how it differs from culture to culture and the impact it has on us both physically and psychologically
This week we talk about Body Anxiety. We’ll talk about what it is and some of the leading causes of Body Anxiety. We’ll look at physical appearance concerns in teens in general, how fashion plays a role in Body Anxiety, what physical self evaluation is and the difficulties in combating social expectations that lead to Body Anxiety. Finally we’ll look at some of the ways that parents can help with adolescents deal with Body Anxiety, promote a positive self image and better understand the challenges teens face regarding this topic.
This week we take a look at some of the nutritional requirements of teens. We’ll look at what teens should be eating for healthy growth and some of the more obscure things to avoid as well. Then we’ll talk about the importance of the Family Dinner. The benefits go well beyond the nutritional intake and can help emotionally and intellectually and play a major role in a teen’s personal growth.
In our last segment we’ll talk about the benefits of getting teens into the kitchen and involved in cooking. It provides an opportunity for quality time, teaches self reliance and can build self confidence. We’ll also talk about some of the things that Madison likes to cook and show her in action making two different meals.
Joe and Madison explore the sensitive subject of self-esteem. What role it plays in our lives, signs of healthy self esteem, warning signs of low self esteem and what can cause low self esteem. We then take a deeper dive into some of the ways to improve your self esteem and the effect your self esteem has on other aspects of life as a teenager.
