- Disneyland President Says New Membership Options Are “Not Designed to Limit Choice and Flexibility” Compared to Annual Passes
- https://wdwnt.com/2021/01/disneyland-president-ken-potrock-speaks-about-future-membership-options-after-annual-passes/?fbclid=IwAR0kTt77exPcI1gTEfNgfjJkMam4tPIWU5g8QjUlwDOZzkypXCGRLRtB_D4

- In the wake of canceling the Annual Passholder program, Ken Potrock, President of Disneyland, spoke to the Orange County Register about the resort’s future membership options.
- Though he didn’t offer any specifics, Potrock said that the Disneyland Resort team will be using the time while Disneyland and Disney California Adventure remain closed “to develop new offerings and a new way to think about the business given the situation we find ourselves in.”
- Potrock listed the following questions that are being considered in developing future membership options: “What do people want in this new world? When do they want to access our parks? How frequently do they want to access our parks? With what level of spontaneity? With what level of value? All of those kinds of things and many more.”
- While the new program will incorporate some elements of the old Annual Passholder program, it will also include new features and experiences.
- “This is not designed to limit choice and flexibility,” Potrock explained. “It’s designed to enhance choice and flexibility. People may say, ‘Here’s how I’ve always used it.’ People may say, ‘Here’s what I bought, but I didn’t quite use it and optimize it.’ People may say, ‘I have a different family structure or my financial situation is different. I would love to do it a little bit differently than I’ve done in the past.’ What we’re hoping to be able to provide is the choice and flexibility for all of those different evolving states.”
- “There’s nothing off the table as we begin to think about things that are important for people,” Potrock went on. “Whether it’s the number of times that they visit on a product offering. Whether it’s when. Is it midweek or weekend? Is it morning or afternoon? Is it day-part oriented? It’s all of those kinds of things that we’re incredibly curious to hear back from the guests about.”
- Disneyland and Disney California Adventure have been closed since mid-March 2020 and it looks like they may reach a year of closure. For now, Disneyland Resort fans can continue to visit Downtown Disney District and Buena Vista Street.
- People are asking Disney World to either hide Donald Trump or remove him entirely from the Hall of Presidents attraction now that he’s out of office
- https://www.insider.com/people-want-trump-removed-from-disney-world-hall-of-presidents-2021-1?fbclid=IwAR2T__sBbk7oDJOLMVYgLiwQcrHDOWvWLHDI1pal9IJ-1SdTS35Accy_S8M

- Shortly after Joe Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday, Disney World closed its Hall of Presidents attraction at Magic Kingdom to make room for a new animatronic of the 46th President.
- Just as quickly, Disney fans began to share their opinions on how they think the Orlando, Florida, theme park should handle the change, and specifically the controversial Donald Trump animatronic that was added in 2017.
- While some suggested “hiding” Trump behind previous presidents, others asked Disney to remove him entirely now that he’s no longer in office. There’s also been talk among fans who feel Disney World should remove the attraction entirely.
- Disney World closed the Hall of Presidents attraction for refurbishment immediately after Joe Biden’s inauguration
- As journalist Ashley Carter shared on Twitter, the theme park placed a small sign outside the attraction on Wednesday that reads: “The Hall of Presidents is currently being prepared to welcome the new president.”
- It’s currently unclear how long it will take for Disney World to create and install an animatronic inspired by Biden. That being said, Disney fans have pointed out that the theme park was much quicker to install the figure of the 46th president than it was when installing the Trump animatronic years prior.
- Many Disney fans are asking the theme park to ‘hide’ the Donald Trump animatronic now that he’s no longer in office
- Though the Hall of Presidents features animatronics of all past presidents, only those representing Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, and the incumbent President of the United States give speeches during the stage show. As a result, all other animatronics take a backseat.
- With that in mind, Disney fans have said online that they’d like the Trump animatronic to be “hidden” onstage, or placed behind another president.
- Others feel Disney should remove the Trump animatronic or replace the entire attraction with something new
- On Twitter, numerous Disney fans said they believe the Trump figure should be removed in response to the former president’s handling of the coronavirus, his role in the US Capitol insurrection, and other controversial actions that occurred throughout his time in office.
- However, there are other issues within the Hall of Presidents that wouldn’t be resolved by removing the replica of Trump.
- As the Orlando Sentinel recently pointed out, tensions have risen at the attraction in recent years after animatronics representing George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Trump were installed. In response to upset guests, Disney World installed metal spikes in front of the animatronics and placed security guards on standby in the attraction.
- The show also honors former presidents who have problematic backgrounds and racist pasts, including 12 former slave owners.
- That being said, the Orlando Sentinel and some Disney fans say it would be smart for Disney to remove the attraction entirely. After all, Walt Disney “wanted his theme parks to be fantasy lands where people could escape the real world,” the Orlando Sentinel wrote — but at the Hall of Presidents, “there’s no escaping it.”
- Regardless of what the Hall of Presidents looks like in the future, numerous fans say they can’t wait to visit again
- On Twitter, many of these fans seem particularly happy that Trump will no longer have a speaking role in the attraction.

- The Mandalorian: Bo-Katan Star Didn’t Know of Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker Cameo Until Finale Airing
- https://thedirect.com/article/the-mandalorian-mark-hamill-luke-skywalker-cameo-bo-katan-finale?fbclid=IwAR2TcL2UkPb0Cpp72V4HG3UeyhhNx8fHqqdtQMJ25YOw_zcJ4kOREJuMsWI

- The Mandalorian’s sophomore season was full of shocks and surprises, specifically in the form of one Luke Skywalker.
- While just about everyone and their grandmother now know about the iconic Jedi’s appearance in the Disney+ show, the reveal was kept secret for nearly an entire calendar year. It now appears that not just fans were kept in the dark, but also some actors that were directly involved in the big finale.
- Bo Katan actress Katee Sackhoff revealed she didn’t know the identity of the Jedi that would appear in The Mandalorian season finale until the episode aired on Disney+.
- “I didn’t know until I saw it with you guys. I didn’t know! They didn’t tell us [who it was]. There was an actor there with dots on his face. I mean, [I] kind of [put it together], but at the same time I thought to myself, ‘They would’ve let us know that.’”
- Sackhoff continued that they were even told the Jedi’s identity was someone other than Luke, but couldn’t recall specifically which fake name they were given.
- “They said, who did they say it was? I think Robin (Chow) knew who they said it was. But it was a complete red herring. So we didn’t know. I knew it was a Jedi. I knew it was an X-Wing. So you start to put things together, but you don’t know.”
- We all know the great lengths Star Wars goes to protect big reveals, but this is something else.
- Way back in 1980 when Empire Strikes Back hit theaters, the massive “No, I am your father” twist came as a shock to not just fans but cast members too. Mark Hamill has spoken about how the original line was recorded as “Obi-Wan killed your father” and was changed in post-production to keep the twist secret. Even Harrison Ford, arguably the biggest name in that flick at the time, was unaware of the Darth Vader lineage.
- That being said, Ford’s Han Solo wasn’t present during the now iconic Cloud City confrontation between Vader and Luke. Sackhoff’s Bo Katan was quite literally in the same room as Luke Skywalker during The Mandalorian’s Chapter 16, yet she was unaware of whom the body-double would end up being. The magic of CGI, folks.
- What’s really special here is realizing just how much these filmmakers care about their projects. Keeping Luke’s reveal hush hush from cast members is just another way of showing that Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have a real passion for the full fan experience and that they have no issue keeping tight lips to protect it.
- As we know, news leaked of Temuera Morrison and Rosario Dawson’s castings as Boba Fett and Ahsoka Tano respectively, months before The Mandalorian’s second run would premiere. If Favreau went with the recasting route, the news would’ve likely made its way to the internet long before he intended it to be public knowledge. The CGI’d body-double allowed for the reveal to be kept quiet until it was meant to be experienced, the way Favreau intended it to be.
- Sackhoff is expected to return for The Mandalorian’s third season, which is set to premiere around Christmas time later this year.
- Pedro Pascal Confirms ‘The Mandalorian’ Will Jump Timelines
- https://insidethemagic.net/2021/01/pedro-pascal-mandalorian-timeline-rwb1/?fbclid=IwAR0NE_BkhK2jcuthQ8-sLWzMwslEhRwQlprro-pDcebALx-tqBkL37wIGEo

- As fans countdown the as-yet-unknown number of days until The Mandalorian Season 3 debuts on Disney+ — we know, we’re already thinking about making “Baby Yoda” snacks to celebrate, too — they’re scouring the internet for any scrap of information about the upcoming season of the hit Star Wars series.
- Now, title character and leading man Pedro Pascal has delivered, dropping a key detail about the upcoming season of showrunner Jon Favreau and executive producer Dave Filoni’s wildly popular streaming series.
- Speaking to IndieWire, Pascal confirmed that a timeline jump — in some capacity — will happen in Season 3:
- “I am told what’s happening and what the plan is, but I can’t share it,” Pascal said. “They are in the expansion of this world, where there are so many unexpected surprises and timelines that are going to be dealt with.”
- Pascal — who got to remove his beskar armor helmet on two occasions in the second season of The Mandalorian — continued with a tease of what’s to come as bounty hunter Din Djarin continues his adventures:
- “If the character were to cross over into these worlds, it will be utilized in a way that isn’t meant to be expected. I wouldn’t want to spoil the surprise of whether or not characters from the show we already know are crossing over.”
- Pascal’s comments immediately lend credence to the theory that The Mandalorian saga — including spinoffs Ahsoka and Rangers of the New Republic, which are set to air concurrently with Season 3 — will introduce animated series Star Wars Rebels’ World Between Worlds in live-action for the first time.
- The World Between Worlds was how Dave Filoni and his team introduced time travel to the Star Wars universe. This has a number of intriguing potential implications as we move ahead into the future of The Mandalorian and its spinoff series.
- We already know, for example, that Jedi Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) will be the focus of the Ahsoka show — this is the most likely place for the World Between Worlds to show up as she searches the galaxy for Grand Admiral Thrawn (voiced by Lars Mikkelsen in Rebels/rumored to be played by Marvel’s Robert Downey, Jr. in live-action) and fellow Jedi Ezra Bridger (voiced by Taylor Gray in Rebels).
- Less is known about Rangers of the New Republic, but it seems likely that it will follow New Republic Marshal Cara Dune (Gina Carano) as she navigates Nevarro, possibly even delving into Moff Gideon’s (Giancarlo Esposito) cloning plans that may have led to the creation of the sequel trilogy’s Supreme Leader Snoke.
- Knowing that all of these shows are interconnected, there are numerous directions Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni could go in regard to the overall storyline. The Mandalorian is set approximately five years after Star Wars: Episode VI – The Return of the Jedi (1983) and about 25 years prior to the introduction of Rey (Daisy Ridley), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), and Finn (John Boyega) in Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015).
- By utilizing the World Between Worlds and the Veil of the Force, Favreau and Filoni could theoretically introduce characters who weren’t even born yet — or even Snoke himself. They’ve already brought back a CGI de-aged version of Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian Season 2 finale episode (“Chapter 16: The Rescue”), so anything is possible.
- At this time, the most up-in-the-air story arc actually belongs to Jedi Knight Skywalker and his new charge, Grogu (AKA The Child AKA Baby Yoda).
- We don’t yet know if the duo will receive their own spinoff series — possibly even featuring Luke’s Star Wars Legends wife, Mara Jade, if the social media rumor mill is to be believed — or if they will pop-up in one of the trio of interwoven Mandalorian shows.
- The Star Wars fan base has proven their love for what Favreau and Filoni are doing with their Mandalorian star and the rest of the cast. Now, we just have to wait and see where the next chapter of the saga takes us.

- Larry King, CNN’s Question-and-Answer Man for a Quarter-Century, Dies at 87
- https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/larry-king-dead-longtime-cnn-host-interviewer-was-87-1014368

- Larry King, the self-made man from Brooklyn who spent six decades proudly winging it as an interviewer on the radio and as the host of his own nightly talk show on CNN, has died. He was 87.
- King died Saturday morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, according to a statement posted to his official social media accounts. A cause of death was not specified, though King was hospitalized with COVID-19 this month.
- CNN went live with the news of King’s death shortly after 8 a.m. ET as New Day Weekend turned toward remembering one of its own. Network anchor Brian Stelter read on air a statement from CNN president Jeff Zucker and noted how King helped to put CNN on the map as a “force on cable, a force on television.”
- Zucker’s statement reads: “We mourn the passing of our colleague Larry King. The scrappy young man from Brooklyn had a history-making career spanning radio and television. His curiosity about the world propelled his award-winning career in broadcasting, but it was his generosity of spirit that drew the world to him. We are so proud of the 25 years he spent with CNN, where his newsmaker interviews truly put the network on the international stage. From our CNN family to Larry’s, we send our thoughts and prayers, and a promise to carry on his curiosity for the world in our work.”
- King, who never made it to college and never took a journalism class, first made his mark in Miami and then from a studio in Washington, D.C., where he hosted the first national radio talk show in the U.S. and attracted a weekly audience of 3 million-5 million listeners.
- He hosted Larry King Live on CNN from June 1, 1985, until Dec. 18, 2010, earning a listing in the Guinness Book of Records as having the longest running show with the same host in the same time slot.
- On CNN’s fifth anniversary, King went on the air as host of Larry King Live — “I knew 10 minutes into that show that it was going to work” — and his first guest was then-New York governor Mario Cuomo. The indefatigable King did the program out of D.C. while still hosting his radio show and writing a column for USA Today.
- King gave up the radio gig in 1994 and three years later moved to Los Angeles. In the late 1990s, Larry King Live regularly reached more than 1.5 million U.S. viewers a night.
- The Peabody Award winner often boasted that he prepared as little as possible for each show, and King kept his questions short and to the point. Many criticized him for delivering too many “softballs” to his guests, and he took umbrage with that.
- “I’m basically who, what, where, when, why,” he said in a 2010 chat for the website The Interviews: An Oral History of Television. “I try to ask questions that only take one or two sentences; if it takes three sentences, it’s a bad question.
- “I don’t show off. I don’t use the word ‘I,’ it’s irrelevant in an interview. It’s only done to say what you’re thinking. If you see an interviewer who says, ‘I was wondering,’ or ‘Let me ask you this,’ it’s hysterical to me, because that’s what they’re there for.
- “I’ve never gone on the air with the idea to embarrass a guest or build up or build down a guest. I’m there to learn.”
- He interviewed tens of thousands of people, everyone from President Nixon and Vladimir Putin to Tammy Faye Bakker and Paris Hilton. (He nabbed the first interview with the socialite after she was sprung from an L.A. jail in 2007; she told him “it was a pretty traumatic experience.”)
- And King famously took calls from listeners and viewers.
- After he had recovered from a heart attack in 1987 — he was smoking three packs of cigarettes a day — he was back on TV but had lost some weight. His wife suggested that he wear suspenders, and they became his trademark: Mikhail Gorbachev once met him for dinner sporting a pair.
- King announced in June 2010 that he was leaving CNN, and the last edition of Larry King Live was broadcast six months later. Piers Morgan Tonight, hosted by the British TV personality and journalist, debuted in its place on Jan. 17, 2011, but lasted only until March 28, 2014.
- King showed up as himself on dozens on TV shows (Murphy Brown, 1600 Penn, American Crime Story) and films (Dave, The Exorcist III, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Bulworth, Primary Colors, Swing Vote, Legion) and voiced the character of Doris in three Shrek movies.

0:04:22.240,0:04:27.280
go for disney detective so in the wake
0:04:25.040,0:04:28.320
of cancelling the annual pass holder
0:04:27.280,0:04:30.400
program
0:04:28.320,0:04:32.960
ken potrock who is the president of
0:04:30.400,0:04:34.400
disneyland actually spoke to the orange
0:04:32.960,0:04:36.880
county register
0:04:34.400,0:04:38.080
about the resort’s future membership
0:04:36.880,0:04:41.360
options
0:04:38.080,0:04:44.560
now he really didn’t come out and say
0:04:41.360,0:04:47.600
much you know that was very specific
0:04:44.560,0:04:51.199
um basically he you know kind of
0:04:47.600,0:04:54.320
went the uh generic
0:04:51.199,0:04:57.360
way of talking about things uh
0:04:54.320,0:04:59.440
basically saying that um the disneyland
0:04:57.360,0:05:00.880
resort team will be using the time while
0:04:59.440,0:05:02.960
disneyland and calif
0:05:00.880,0:05:04.000
disney’s california adventure remain
0:05:02.960,0:05:07.919
closed
0:05:04.000,0:05:09.919
to develop new offerings and a new way
0:05:07.919,0:05:12.240
to think about the business given the
0:05:09.919,0:05:14.560
situation we find ourselves in
0:05:12.240,0:05:16.000
um he listed you know the following
0:05:14.560,0:05:18.800
questions that
0:05:16.000,0:05:20.000
basically they’re considering in what
0:05:18.800,0:05:23.120
type of membership
0:05:20.000,0:05:24.800
to the membership options you know he
0:05:23.120,0:05:26.160
said you know what do people want in
0:05:24.800,0:05:28.160
this new world
0:05:26.160,0:05:29.600
when do they want to access our parks
0:05:28.160,0:05:32.240
how frequently
0:05:29.600,0:05:34.320
do they want to access uh with what
0:05:32.240,0:05:37.280
level of spontaneity
0:05:34.320,0:05:39.120
uh with what level of value all you know
0:05:37.280,0:05:42.320
these kind of things and more
0:05:39.120,0:05:44.000
so obviously you know they’re going to
0:05:42.320,0:05:46.960
probably try and incorporate
0:05:44.000,0:05:48.320
some elements of the old annual pass
0:05:46.960,0:05:51.680
holder program
0:05:48.320,0:05:53.919
but i guess they’ve been hinting at
0:05:51.680,0:05:56.160
some new features and some new
0:05:53.919,0:05:58.560
flexibility so he said it’s not designed
0:05:56.160,0:06:00.560
to limit choices and flexibility
0:05:58.560,0:06:01.600
it’s designed to enhance choice and
0:06:00.560,0:06:04.720
flexibility
0:06:01.600,0:06:06.639
people may say here how i’ve
0:06:04.720,0:06:08.000
you know this is how i’ve always used it
0:06:06.639,0:06:09.600
or
0:06:08.000,0:06:11.520
you know when i bought it i didn’t
0:06:09.600,0:06:14.400
really quite use it
0:06:11.520,0:06:16.240
as much or optimize it or now i have a
0:06:14.400,0:06:18.840
different family structure
0:06:16.240,0:06:20.400
or my financial situation is now
0:06:18.840,0:06:23.280
different
0:06:20.400,0:06:25.600
you know is it something where i only
0:06:23.280,0:06:26.400
use it mid-week or i only use it on the
0:06:25.600,0:06:29.039
weekends
0:06:26.400,0:06:31.520
or i go more in the morning or more in
0:06:29.039,0:06:33.919
the afternoon
0:06:31.520,0:06:34.720
you know so they’re basically kind of
0:06:33.919,0:06:37.520
taking
0:06:34.720,0:06:38.400
everything into account to try and come
0:06:37.520,0:06:41.680
up with
0:06:38.400,0:06:43.759
the best way um you know going forward
0:06:41.680,0:06:45.360
uh what was interesting was there was a
0:06:43.759,0:06:48.880
different article
0:06:45.360,0:06:51.199
that came out this week talking about
0:06:48.880,0:06:53.039
just annual pass holders in general how
0:06:51.199,0:06:56.160
really disney doesn’t make
0:06:53.039,0:06:57.680
any money you know or as much money off
0:06:56.160,0:07:00.479
of them as
0:06:57.680,0:07:01.199
a regular guest that just goes down you
0:07:00.479,0:07:03.919
know for
0:07:01.199,0:07:04.960
for a week or so and we had talked about
0:07:03.919,0:07:08.240
that too
0:07:04.960,0:07:09.199
um and the other thing too was there was
0:07:08.240,0:07:13.360
one article
0:07:09.199,0:07:16.880
that talked about um so while disneyland
0:07:13.360,0:07:18.800
isn’t doing park passes obviously or
0:07:16.880,0:07:21.840
annual passes at this point in time
0:07:18.800,0:07:24.800
that in orlando for florida
0:07:21.840,0:07:26.319
you can still renew your annual pass but
0:07:24.800,0:07:28.160
there was something that i saw that said
0:07:26.319,0:07:31.440
that they weren’t issuing anything
0:07:28.160,0:07:34.479
new for annual passes at this time
0:07:31.440,0:07:36.479
so i don’t know if that’s
0:07:34.479,0:07:38.639
you know again that was really the first
0:07:36.479,0:07:42.080
time that i ever saw anything
0:07:38.639,0:07:42.479
that mentioned that they weren’t doing
0:07:42.080,0:07:44.479
new
0:07:42.479,0:07:46.560
annual passes that they were just doing
0:07:44.479,0:07:49.039
renewals at this point in time so
0:07:46.560,0:07:50.800
it’ll kind of be interesting to see what
0:07:49.039,0:07:54.800
they come up with because
0:07:50.800,0:07:58.639
we know in florida from you know from
0:07:54.800,0:08:00.879
our um you know experience
0:07:58.639,0:08:02.240
they have so many different versions of
0:08:00.879,0:08:05.360
the annual pass
0:08:02.240,0:08:08.080
there isn’t just one annual pass there’s
0:08:05.360,0:08:10.720
multiple types of annual passes so i
0:08:08.080,0:08:13.599
could totally see them doing that
0:08:10.720,0:08:15.039
for california as well because i don’t
0:08:13.599,0:08:18.560
know how many passes
0:08:15.039,0:08:20.319
types of passes they had had before but
0:08:18.560,0:08:22.080
you could definitely see them you know
0:08:20.319,0:08:23.919
coming out with you know 10 different
0:08:22.080,0:08:25.680
versions of it which i’m sure would be
0:08:23.919,0:08:29.039
very confusing
0:08:25.680,0:08:31.440
for anybody deciding to purchase one
0:08:29.039,0:08:32.800
like okay which one which one do we want
0:08:31.440,0:08:35.120
this this year
0:08:32.800,0:08:36.880
um so it’ll be you know interesting to
0:08:35.120,0:08:39.839
see as more information
0:08:36.880,0:08:41.760
you know comes out about it yeah there’s
0:08:39.839,0:08:44.720
two takeaways that i have for this one
0:08:41.760,0:08:47.440
one’s you know the positive that they’re
0:08:44.720,0:08:50.720
definitely looking at additional options
0:08:47.440,0:08:53.279
and there appear at least to be very
0:08:50.720,0:08:54.560
open-minded on the surface as to
0:08:53.279,0:08:57.200
what they want to offer because they
0:08:54.560,0:09:01.120
want to customize things for people
0:08:57.200,0:09:03.680
the negative that i get from this is
0:09:01.120,0:09:05.360
they don’t like all of us they don’t
0:09:03.680,0:09:07.360
know what normal is going to be
0:09:05.360,0:09:08.720
right you know at this point in time
0:09:07.360,0:09:09.360
they’re still trying to wrap their heads
0:09:08.720,0:09:11.040
around
0:09:09.360,0:09:13.600
what it’s going to be like you know
0:09:11.040,0:09:15.440
maybe when these vaccines get out and
0:09:13.600,0:09:16.720
you know the estimate right now is we
0:09:15.440,0:09:19.680
might have
0:09:16.720,0:09:20.320
enough vaccinations out by the fall to
0:09:19.680,0:09:22.320
start
0:09:20.320,0:09:23.600
kind of returning back to normal a
0:09:22.320,0:09:26.399
little bit
0:09:23.600,0:09:27.519
but i think everybody agrees normal is
0:09:26.399,0:09:30.640
not going to be normal
0:09:27.519,0:09:31.839
like we knew it anymore right so
0:09:30.640,0:09:34.080
good thing that they’re they’re trying
0:09:31.839,0:09:35.680
to be flexible right bad thing that
0:09:34.080,0:09:36.560
they’re as clueless as the rest of us
0:09:35.680,0:09:39.440
are at this point
0:09:36.560,0:09:40.080
yeah yeah so let’s talk a little bit
0:09:39.440,0:09:43.279
about
0:09:40.080,0:09:45.680
hall of presidents so shortly after joe
0:09:43.279,0:09:47.920
biden’s inauguration on wednesday
0:09:45.680,0:09:50.080
walt disney world closed its hall of
0:09:47.920,0:09:52.000
president’s attraction at magic kingdom
0:09:50.080,0:09:54.959
to make room for the new audio
0:09:52.000,0:09:57.120
animatronic of the 46th president
0:09:54.959,0:09:59.040
just as quickly disney fans began to
0:09:57.120,0:10:00.959
share their opinion on how they think
0:09:59.040,0:10:02.839
the orlando florida theme park
0:10:00.959,0:10:05.360
should handle the change and
0:10:02.839,0:10:07.120
specifically the controversial donald
0:10:05.360,0:10:10.720
trump audio animatronic
0:10:07.120,0:10:13.440
which was added just in 2017
0:10:10.720,0:10:14.959
while some suggested hiding trump behind
0:10:13.440,0:10:16.959
previous presidents
0:10:14.959,0:10:18.000
others asked disney to just remove him
0:10:16.959,0:10:20.720
entirely
0:10:18.000,0:10:23.040
now that he’s no longer in office so
0:10:20.720,0:10:24.800
there have been talk among fans who feel
0:10:23.040,0:10:26.399
uh disney world should actually just
0:10:24.800,0:10:29.760
remove the attraction
0:10:26.399,0:10:31.120
entirely disney world closed the hall of
0:10:29.760,0:10:33.680
president’s attraction
0:10:31.120,0:10:35.360
for refurbishment immediately after his
0:10:33.680,0:10:38.079
inauguration
0:10:35.360,0:10:39.519
there happened to be a journalist ashley
0:10:38.079,0:10:41.680
carter who had shared
0:10:39.519,0:10:42.959
on twitter that the theme park had
0:10:41.680,0:10:45.360
placed the small sign
0:10:42.959,0:10:46.240
outside of the attraction on wednesday
0:10:45.360,0:10:48.240
that reads
0:10:46.240,0:10:50.880
hall of presidents is currently being
0:10:48.240,0:10:53.360
prepared to welcome the new president
0:10:50.880,0:10:54.640
now it’s currently unclear how long it
0:10:53.360,0:10:57.360
will take disney
0:10:54.640,0:10:59.360
to create and install the audio
0:10:57.360,0:11:01.279
animatronic inspired by biden
0:10:59.360,0:11:03.200
but that being said disney fans have
0:11:01.279,0:11:06.000
pointed out that the theme park was
0:11:03.200,0:11:07.839
much quicker to install the figure of
0:11:06.000,0:11:09.839
the 46th president
0:11:07.839,0:11:10.959
than they were when they were installing
0:11:09.839,0:11:14.160
trump
0:11:10.959,0:11:17.600
uh years prior it actually took them
0:11:14.160,0:11:18.720
11 months to install trump’s audio
0:11:17.600,0:11:22.560
animatronic
0:11:18.720,0:11:26.240
which honestly looks
0:11:22.560,0:11:27.200
nothing like him we never went to hall
0:11:26.240,0:11:30.640
of presidents
0:11:27.200,0:11:34.320
while um he was the
0:11:30.640,0:11:37.200
the main president um and
0:11:34.320,0:11:39.120
from videos that we saw it looked
0:11:37.200,0:11:40.800
absolutely nothing like him a lot of
0:11:39.120,0:11:44.320
people thought it looked like
0:11:40.800,0:11:46.720
a really bad version of uh
0:11:44.320,0:11:48.399
trump as mrs doubtfire with a mix of
0:11:46.720,0:11:53.200
hillary clinton kind of
0:11:48.399,0:11:55.279
put in and you know just kind of
0:11:53.200,0:11:56.639
you know it was almost disney’s way of
0:11:55.279,0:11:59.440
kind of poking
0:11:56.639,0:12:00.240
fun at really because any other
0:11:59.440,0:12:02.880
president
0:12:00.240,0:12:04.160
that has been you know in power and been
0:12:02.880,0:12:07.440
the spotlight
0:12:04.160,0:12:10.880
of it has always looked and
0:12:07.440,0:12:12.880
acted and sounded like you know that
0:12:10.880,0:12:15.040
current president
0:12:12.880,0:12:16.240
so obviously hall of presidents if
0:12:15.040,0:12:19.120
you’re not familiar
0:12:16.240,0:12:20.480
it features audio animatronics of all
0:12:19.120,0:12:23.680
the past presidents
0:12:20.480,0:12:26.160
but only those represent representing
0:12:23.680,0:12:28.160
abraham lincoln george washington and
0:12:26.160,0:12:28.720
the incumbent president of the united
0:12:28.160,0:12:30.959
states
0:12:28.720,0:12:32.079
actually give a speech during the stage
0:12:30.959,0:12:34.079
show um
0:12:32.079,0:12:36.079
and as a result all the other audio
0:12:34.079,0:12:36.800
animatronics just kind of take a a back
0:12:36.079,0:12:39.360
seat
0:12:36.800,0:12:41.360
but they everybody kind of gets a moment
0:12:39.360,0:12:44.560
of the spotlight because they do
0:12:41.360,0:12:47.440
announce each president you know
0:12:44.560,0:12:48.880
in order and and some of them move a
0:12:47.440,0:12:49.440
little bit and some of them move a
0:12:48.880,0:12:52.560
little bit
0:12:49.440,0:12:55.680
um more uh so
0:12:52.560,0:12:58.720
of course again disney fans
0:12:55.680,0:13:00.720
um you know have have
0:12:58.720,0:13:01.920
come forward saying that they would
0:13:00.720,0:13:04.000
really prefer
0:13:01.920,0:13:05.279
that the past president be a little bit
0:13:04.000,0:13:08.160
more hidden
0:13:05.279,0:13:08.720
or in the wake of everything that
0:13:08.160,0:13:13.120
happened
0:13:08.720,0:13:15.680
prior to the
0:13:13.120,0:13:17.839
the inauguration that he actually be
0:13:15.680,0:13:20.399
completely removed
0:13:17.839,0:13:21.600
as well but then again there are fans
0:13:20.399,0:13:24.720
that are saying you know what
0:13:21.600,0:13:27.680
this is such a old attraction
0:13:24.720,0:13:30.639
and that really it shouldn’t even be
0:13:27.680,0:13:33.760
there anymore that it’s not part of
0:13:30.639,0:13:36.800
you know walt’s original plan
0:13:33.760,0:13:38.320
you know for things um you know so
0:13:36.800,0:13:40.959
there’s there’s lots of
0:13:38.320,0:13:42.639
talk pro and con on you know on
0:13:40.959,0:13:44.959
everything for this
0:13:42.639,0:13:45.760
yeah and i think it’s unfortunate that
0:13:44.959,0:13:49.440
people are
0:13:45.760,0:13:51.519
are trying to use their dislike
0:13:49.440,0:13:53.440
of donald trump granted you know there
0:13:51.519,0:13:55.120
is a lot to dislike about him
0:13:53.440,0:13:56.560
especially in this last year of his
0:13:55.120,0:13:58.160
presidency
0:13:56.560,0:14:00.240
but the fact that people are trying to
0:13:58.160,0:14:03.680
use that as an impetus
0:14:00.240,0:14:05.839
to change a ride that that
0:14:03.680,0:14:08.160
is educational and entertaining
0:14:05.839,0:14:10.320
absolutely a lot of people enjoy
0:14:08.160,0:14:12.000
is unfortunate i think people need to
0:14:10.320,0:14:13.360
realize you know there are popular
0:14:12.000,0:14:14.560
presidents there are unpopular
0:14:13.360,0:14:16.399
presidents
0:14:14.560,0:14:17.600
and when you get an unpopular president
0:14:16.399,0:14:20.560
he’s
0:14:17.600,0:14:21.920
whether people feel it or not he’s
0:14:20.560,0:14:23.920
entitled to the same
0:14:21.920,0:14:25.519
level of treatment as a popular
0:14:23.920,0:14:27.120
president is when it comes to this
0:14:25.519,0:14:29.279
attraction
0:14:27.120,0:14:30.800
you know he’s not a president anymore
0:14:29.279,0:14:32.480
he’s going to take a backseat
0:14:30.800,0:14:34.160
right stick him over in the background
0:14:32.480,0:14:34.880
next to andrew jackson and be done with
0:14:34.160,0:14:36.399
it
0:14:34.880,0:14:38.720
that’s what you do maybe that’s what
0:14:36.399,0:14:42.000
they need to do is to start kind of
0:14:38.720,0:14:44.160
moving the not so popular right
0:14:42.000,0:14:45.680
you know presidents because a lot of
0:14:44.160,0:14:47.279
people point out oh well you know
0:14:45.680,0:14:48.720
there’s there’s presidents there that
0:14:47.279,0:14:50.240
were slave owners that shouldn’t be
0:14:48.720,0:14:51.360
there well guess what george washington
0:14:50.240,0:14:52.959
was a slave owner
0:14:51.360,0:14:54.639
right so if you’re going to get rid of
0:14:52.959,0:14:58.000
presidents
0:14:54.639,0:15:01.360
that based on today’s standards right
0:14:58.000,0:15:02.320
from 100 200 years ago right you can’t
0:15:01.360,0:15:04.240
rewrite history
0:15:02.320,0:15:06.079
right you can’t because it’s judged by a
0:15:04.240,0:15:08.320
different state right you have to learn
0:15:06.079,0:15:11.440
from it and adapt and
0:15:08.320,0:15:13.360
be better exactly so put
0:15:11.440,0:15:15.360
put them in the background let’s move on
0:15:13.360,0:15:16.959
keep the ride you know the attraction
0:15:15.360,0:15:19.279
open let’s get the new president
0:15:16.959,0:15:21.199
in let’s just keep that cycle going yeah
0:15:19.279,0:15:25.120
i i can definitely see
0:15:21.199,0:15:28.560
that it’s going to be much sooner
0:15:25.120,0:15:30.880
than you know well and since
0:15:28.560,0:15:31.759
since trump made such a big deal about
0:15:30.880,0:15:34.160
having
0:15:31.759,0:15:35.759
andrew jackson as the background of the
0:15:34.160,0:15:38.240
oval office let’s make trump the
0:15:35.759,0:15:40.480
background of andrew jackson
0:15:38.240,0:15:41.680
yeah yeah and keep you know birds of a
0:15:40.480,0:15:44.399
feather together there
0:15:41.680,0:15:45.680
works for me so that was all we had for
0:15:44.399,0:15:48.320
disney detectives
0:15:45.680,0:15:55.839
we’ll be back in a minute with our tales

0:17:15.199,0:17:19.679
so the mandalorian sophomore season was
0:17:18.000,0:17:22.720
chock full of surprises
0:17:19.679,0:17:23.760
and specifically in the form of luke
0:17:22.720,0:17:25.360
skywalker
0:17:23.760,0:17:27.760
while just about everybody and their
0:17:25.360,0:17:29.919
grandmother now knows about the iconic
0:17:27.760,0:17:30.640
jedi’s appearance in the disney plush
0:17:29.919,0:17:32.799
show
0:17:30.640,0:17:35.039
it was actually revealed that this it
0:17:32.799,0:17:38.480
was kept a secret for an
0:17:35.039,0:17:38.799
entire calendar year and now it appears
0:17:38.480,0:17:41.120
that
0:17:38.799,0:17:43.280
not just the fans were in the dark about
0:17:41.120,0:17:44.880
it but that also some of the actors that
0:17:43.280,0:17:47.440
were directly involved
0:17:44.880,0:17:48.400
in the big finale didn’t know it was him
0:17:47.440,0:17:51.360
as well
0:17:48.400,0:17:52.960
so bo katan actress katie sakhoff had
0:17:51.360,0:17:54.400
revealed that she didn’t know the
0:17:52.960,0:17:56.240
identity of the jedi
0:17:54.400,0:17:58.880
that would appear in the mandalorian
0:17:56.240,0:18:01.760
season finale until the episode actually
0:17:58.880,0:18:03.919
aired on disney plus she said i didn’t
0:18:01.760,0:18:04.880
know until i saw it with you guys i just
0:18:03.919,0:18:07.200
didn’t know
0:18:04.880,0:18:09.440
they didn’t tell us who it was there was
0:18:07.200,0:18:12.559
an actor there with dots on his face
0:18:09.440,0:18:13.919
she says i’m she says i kind of put it
0:18:12.559,0:18:15.840
together but at the
0:18:13.919,0:18:17.360
same time i thought to myself they
0:18:15.840,0:18:18.559
wouldn’t they would have let us know
0:18:17.360,0:18:22.000
right
0:18:18.559,0:18:23.919
she continued that um they told them
0:18:22.000,0:18:27.200
that it was a jedi
0:18:23.919,0:18:30.000
but never said that it was actually luke
0:18:27.200,0:18:31.280
so you know they said all right well you
0:18:30.000,0:18:33.520
know maybe they know
0:18:31.280,0:18:35.280
but we didn’t know and it was a jedi
0:18:33.520,0:18:37.200
because you saw the x-wing and then you
0:18:35.280,0:18:40.559
kind of start putting things together
0:18:37.200,0:18:41.440
but again until she saw the episode like
0:18:40.559,0:18:43.919
everybody else
0:18:41.440,0:18:44.799
she didn’t know and you know the funny
0:18:43.919,0:18:47.919
thing is that
0:18:44.799,0:18:50.960
obviously we know star wars
0:18:47.919,0:18:54.240
likes to keep people in suspense they
0:18:50.960,0:18:57.200
like to you know keep things a secret
0:18:54.240,0:18:59.600
um you know and going back to 1980 when
0:18:57.200,0:19:02.240
empire strikes back hit the theaters
0:18:59.600,0:19:03.679
the massive no i am your father twist
0:19:02.240,0:19:06.720
came as a shock
0:19:03.679,0:19:10.559
not only to fans but also cast members
0:19:06.720,0:19:12.640
because uh mark hamill had actually
0:19:10.559,0:19:14.880
mentioned and he’s talked about it since
0:19:12.640,0:19:17.520
that the original line was
0:19:14.880,0:19:18.160
obi-wan killed your father and that they
0:19:17.520,0:19:21.280
actually
0:19:18.160,0:19:24.559
changed it in post-production so
0:19:21.280,0:19:25.360
that this way nobody knew about it until
0:19:24.559,0:19:28.000
the movie
0:19:25.360,0:19:28.880
you know came out and all of the the
0:19:28.000,0:19:31.200
actors
0:19:28.880,0:19:33.200
that were you know part of it as well
0:19:31.200,0:19:36.000
didn’t know about it
0:19:33.200,0:19:36.320
so to kind of you know see that they’re
0:19:36.000,0:19:39.760
still
0:19:36.320,0:19:42.000
kind of keeping this going you know
0:19:39.760,0:19:43.120
is a nice little treat and obviously
0:19:42.000,0:19:44.640
we’ve
0:19:43.120,0:19:47.200
known that there have been all these
0:19:44.640,0:19:47.679
little uh things that people didn’t know
0:19:47.200,0:19:50.080
about
0:19:47.679,0:19:51.360
baby yoda being you know one of the
0:19:50.080,0:19:54.400
other examples
0:19:51.360,0:19:55.919
that until we saw the episode we didn’t
0:19:54.400,0:19:56.320
know that character was going to be
0:19:55.919,0:19:58.960
there
0:19:56.320,0:20:01.200
and you know and then the whole line of
0:19:58.960,0:20:04.480
merchandise obviously
0:20:01.200,0:20:07.520
was hurt in in some respects because of
0:20:04.480,0:20:10.799
this delay so kind of cool that again
0:20:07.520,0:20:11.760
you know it was a a secret that was well
0:20:10.799,0:20:14.400
kept and
0:20:11.760,0:20:16.159
you know because of the magic of cgi
0:20:14.400,0:20:18.240
they were able to you know
0:20:16.159,0:20:20.159
pull off something you know really cool
0:20:18.240,0:20:21.440
in the season finale
0:20:20.159,0:20:23.280
yeah it’s pretty neat that they’re kind
0:20:21.440,0:20:25.760
of keeping to this uh
0:20:23.280,0:20:27.200
tradition of holding that little bit
0:20:25.760,0:20:30.960
back so you don’t get everything
0:20:27.200,0:20:34.159
right right what’s amazing is
0:20:30.960,0:20:37.679
that they’re able to do it today
0:20:34.159,0:20:39.520
right back in in you know 1979 when they
0:20:37.679,0:20:40.960
were filming empire strikes back you
0:20:39.520,0:20:43.679
didn’t have the internet
0:20:40.960,0:20:45.440
and social media right everybody with
0:20:43.679,0:20:47.840
phones with cameras
0:20:45.440,0:20:49.280
on set right you know when they were
0:20:47.840,0:20:54.480
when they were doing the filming
0:20:49.280,0:20:56.640
for uh the last jedi there were
0:20:54.480,0:20:57.840
they were filming on the on the uh
0:20:56.640,0:21:02.080
island act two
0:20:57.840,0:21:04.559
off of the coast of uh ireland
0:21:02.080,0:21:06.000
and skellig michael was the name of the
0:21:04.559,0:21:09.039
island
0:21:06.000,0:21:10.400
and uh when they would get on the boat
0:21:09.039,0:21:12.240
to get there because you couldn’t they
0:21:10.400,0:21:14.880
didn’t have facilities to actually stay
0:21:12.240,0:21:16.080
on the on the island itself in the
0:21:14.880,0:21:19.679
morning you’d get on the boat
0:21:16.080,0:21:21.360
and you’d get a an id tag and the id
0:21:19.679,0:21:23.280
tag didn’t have anybody’s name on it
0:21:21.360,0:21:25.840
everyone was given like a number
0:21:23.280,0:21:27.520
okay so you knew what your number was
0:21:25.840,0:21:31.039
but anybody who looked at the board to
0:21:27.520,0:21:31.039
take their number didn’t know who
0:21:31.679,0:21:36.000
so it’s like that level of wow secrecy
0:21:34.960,0:21:37.760
that they had
0:21:36.000,0:21:39.919
and you have to with this you know
0:21:37.760,0:21:41.520
considering people because they’ve got
0:21:39.919,0:21:43.039
everyone and their brother coming in for
0:21:41.520,0:21:46.000
cameos and everything on the show
0:21:43.039,0:21:47.200
right right which i think is kind of
0:21:46.000,0:21:50.320
interesting on the part
0:21:47.200,0:21:53.440
of john favreau where he’s
0:21:50.320,0:21:56.880
he’s trying to include all these other
0:21:53.440,0:21:58.960
fans right now yeah and bring them in
0:21:56.880,0:22:01.120
um like you know last season when they
0:21:58.960,0:22:04.159
brought in the 5.0 first
0:22:01.120,0:22:07.600
to fill in troops right right
0:22:04.159,0:22:08.000
yeah so you’ve got that kind of exposure
0:22:07.600,0:22:10.080
you’re
0:22:08.000,0:22:11.679
you’re not filming in these remote
0:22:10.080,0:22:13.760
locations right
0:22:11.679,0:22:15.120
so you’re filming in a populated area so
0:22:13.760,0:22:16.159
it’s really hard to keep this
0:22:15.120,0:22:19.600
information
0:22:16.159,0:22:20.960
under wraps right but it’s it’s kind of
0:22:19.600,0:22:21.600
neat that they’re doing that even for
0:22:20.960,0:22:23.039
the
0:22:21.600,0:22:24.400
for the actors that are participating
0:22:23.039,0:22:26.240
right because you know the article
0:22:24.400,0:22:27.919
talked about you know how for
0:22:26.240,0:22:29.679
empire strikes back you know like
0:22:27.919,0:22:30.799
harrison ford didn’t know about it but
0:22:29.679,0:22:33.679
he wasn’t
0:22:30.799,0:22:34.960
part of the scene he wasn’t on that area
0:22:33.679,0:22:38.720
when it was going on
0:22:34.960,0:22:41.760
whereas katie was there she was you know
0:22:38.720,0:22:44.880
right you know 20 feet from him and
0:22:41.760,0:22:45.919
had no idea with empire strikes back the
0:22:44.880,0:22:47.679
only person
0:22:45.919,0:22:49.200
on the scene other than the director at
0:22:47.679,0:22:52.559
the time that knew right
0:22:49.200,0:22:54.400
was mark hamill david prowls
0:22:52.559,0:22:55.919
who was voicing the original lines
0:22:54.400,0:22:56.400
because all his lines were dubbed over
0:22:55.919,0:22:59.760
anyway
0:22:56.400,0:23:03.039
right he didn’t even know right so
0:22:59.760,0:23:04.960
when luke had that emotional outburst
0:23:03.039,0:23:06.320
right they all thought it was genuine
0:23:04.960,0:23:08.480
because it was you know
0:23:06.320,0:23:10.000
obi-wan killed your father right you
0:23:08.480,0:23:10.880
know it wasn’t until afterwards that
0:23:10.000,0:23:14.480
they found out
0:23:10.880,0:23:16.880
yeah yeah exactly so very very cool
0:23:14.480,0:23:18.080
so we have some additional mandalorian
0:23:16.880,0:23:20.400
news what else do we have
0:23:18.080,0:23:21.200
yeah so it seems you know obviously
0:23:20.400,0:23:23.440
we’re all
0:23:21.200,0:23:24.720
counting down the the number of unknown
0:23:23.440,0:23:27.840
number of days until
0:23:24.720,0:23:30.960
season three debuts um but it seems
0:23:27.840,0:23:31.679
that pedro pascal had actually you know
0:23:30.960,0:23:34.080
dropped
0:23:31.679,0:23:35.360
you know a little bit of information he
0:23:34.080,0:23:38.400
was actually speaking with
0:23:35.360,0:23:41.760
indy wire and he confirmed
0:23:38.400,0:23:44.480
that there will be a timeline jump
0:23:41.760,0:23:45.200
in some capacity that’ll happen in uh
0:23:44.480,0:23:48.000
episode three
0:23:45.200,0:23:48.559
or season three he said i am told what
0:23:48.000,0:23:50.559
happened
0:23:48.559,0:23:52.080
what’s happening and what the plan is
0:23:50.559,0:23:54.720
but i can’t share it
0:23:52.080,0:23:55.440
uh they’re in the expansion of this
0:23:54.720,0:23:57.520
world
0:23:55.440,0:23:59.360
uh and there are so many unexpected
0:23:57.520,0:24:02.080
surprises and timelines
0:23:59.360,0:24:04.640
that are going to be dealt with um he
0:24:02.080,0:24:07.360
said if the character were to cross over
0:24:04.640,0:24:07.840
into these worlds it’ll be utilized in a
0:24:07.360,0:24:10.320
way
0:24:07.840,0:24:12.480
that isn’t meant to be expected i
0:24:10.320,0:24:14.320
wouldn’t want to spoil the surprise of
0:24:12.480,0:24:15.679
whether or not characters from the show
0:24:14.320,0:24:19.520
we already know
0:24:15.679,0:24:23.200
are crossing over so
0:24:19.520,0:24:26.320
kind of a teaser as to everything
0:24:23.200,0:24:26.960
but again not really a whole lot is
0:24:26.320,0:24:30.400
known
0:24:26.960,0:24:32.320
we do know that you know they’re
0:24:30.400,0:24:34.400
basically going to be having this whole
0:24:32.320,0:24:36.480
mandalorian saga which is going to
0:24:34.400,0:24:38.799
include the spin-offs of
0:24:36.480,0:24:39.760
ahsoka and the rangers of the new
0:24:38.799,0:24:43.039
republic
0:24:39.760,0:24:46.000
which are all kind of going to coincide
0:24:43.039,0:24:46.400
you know run together with season three
0:24:46.000,0:24:48.880
and
0:24:46.400,0:24:50.320
it’ll introduce the animated series star
0:24:48.880,0:24:53.679
wars rebels
0:24:50.320,0:24:56.880
world between worlds in the live action
0:24:53.679,0:24:59.200
for the first time so you know it’ll be
0:24:56.880,0:25:01.919
interesting to kind of see
0:24:59.200,0:25:02.640
how everything kind of intertwines you
0:25:01.919,0:25:04.640
know and
0:25:02.640,0:25:05.679
and comes together obviously you know a
0:25:04.640,0:25:08.000
little bit
0:25:05.679,0:25:10.000
more of that because you’ve you know
0:25:08.000,0:25:11.039
seen all the different animated series
0:25:10.000,0:25:13.520
and
0:25:11.039,0:25:14.080
and uh whatnot so you could probably
0:25:13.520,0:25:19.039
talk a little
0:25:14.080,0:25:21.679
bit more about where you possibly think
0:25:19.039,0:25:23.279
it could go well and that’s the thing
0:25:21.679,0:25:24.720
the the one advantage you have with the
0:25:23.279,0:25:26.880
time jump here is you’ve got
0:25:24.720,0:25:28.799
so many projects they’re juggling right
0:25:26.880,0:25:30.720
now right that
0:25:28.799,0:25:32.159
those projects can be used to fill in
0:25:30.720,0:25:33.360
those time gaps
0:25:32.159,0:25:35.360
and that’s kind of the problem that
0:25:33.360,0:25:37.520
we’ve had so far with the
0:25:35.360,0:25:38.480
the sequel trilogy that came out was you
0:25:37.520,0:25:41.039
had this huge
0:25:38.480,0:25:42.880
30-year time job right and there wasn’t
0:25:41.039,0:25:44.640
anything to fill in the gap
0:25:42.880,0:25:46.400
so now you’ve got mandalorian that’s
0:25:44.640,0:25:47.600
five years after today now so they’re
0:25:46.400,0:25:49.600
going to jump another
0:25:47.600,0:25:51.279
however many years right couple years
0:25:49.600,0:25:51.840
maybe you’ve got two or three more
0:25:51.279,0:25:53.600
series
0:25:51.840,0:25:55.200
are coming out that are going to fill in
0:25:53.600,0:25:56.320
those gaps in there so you’re start
0:25:55.200,0:25:59.440
going to start getting
0:25:56.320,0:26:00.880
a cohesive picture moving forward from
0:25:59.440,0:26:02.799
returning the jedi which is
0:26:00.880,0:26:04.640
very nice just to hear them laying it
0:26:02.799,0:26:06.320
out like this
0:26:04.640,0:26:08.320
and then you have the fact that we
0:26:06.320,0:26:09.279
talked last week about them bringing air
0:26:08.320,0:26:12.559
to the empire
0:26:09.279,0:26:15.760
into right so all of this
0:26:12.559,0:26:18.559
is very much likely leading into
0:26:15.760,0:26:20.159
all of that that that thrawn trilogy
0:26:18.559,0:26:21.840
that we’re going to see at that point in
0:26:20.159,0:26:24.000
time because they’re all little bits and
0:26:21.840,0:26:27.120
pieces that you’re going to add together
0:26:24.000,0:26:29.760
to to fuel that epic adventure
0:26:27.120,0:26:30.559
that starts with air to the empire so
0:26:29.760,0:26:32.720
it’s a very
0:26:30.559,0:26:34.080
very good outlook there i was concerned
0:26:32.720,0:26:35.440
when they announced all the shows that
0:26:34.080,0:26:36.880
were coming in
0:26:35.440,0:26:39.760
because they didn’t give any detail
0:26:36.880,0:26:41.440
right now with a time jump here
0:26:39.760,0:26:43.039
and this piece fitting here and this
0:26:41.440,0:26:44.559
other piece may be fitting in here to
0:26:43.039,0:26:46.480
explain some stuff
0:26:44.559,0:26:48.240
all these shows now make sense there’s a
0:26:46.480,0:26:51.039
place for them now with this right
0:26:48.240,0:26:52.880
there’s this whole you know timeline
0:26:51.039,0:26:55.600
that was kind of laid out
0:26:52.880,0:26:56.240
showing this is this this is this and
0:26:55.600,0:26:58.400
you know and
0:26:56.240,0:26:59.679
see if you didn’t do that time jump then
0:26:58.400,0:27:01.919
you’re jumbling
0:26:59.679,0:27:03.360
everything in together and you’re going
0:27:01.919,0:27:05.039
to start having
0:27:03.360,0:27:06.880
genres and characters and story lines
0:27:05.039,0:27:08.559
that are stepping on each other
0:27:06.880,0:27:10.960
you know i could see them doing a five
0:27:08.559,0:27:12.880
year maybe even a ten year jump
0:27:10.960,0:27:15.360
right and then everything else filling
0:27:12.880,0:27:18.080
in those blanks there like i could see
0:27:15.360,0:27:20.240
you know mandalorian end it with the
0:27:18.080,0:27:21.520
quest to go back you know he’s taking
0:27:20.240,0:27:23.360
off this dark saber
0:27:21.520,0:27:26.320
right he’s taking up the mantle to
0:27:23.360,0:27:28.080
retake the planet mandalore
0:27:26.320,0:27:29.919
now i could totally see the time jump
0:27:28.080,0:27:32.000
happening after that struggle
0:27:29.919,0:27:33.919
right where he’s there or someone else
0:27:32.000,0:27:35.039
is there and now we’re moving on to the
0:27:33.919,0:27:38.240
next
0:27:35.039,0:27:39.600
right so it looks good i mean right now
0:27:38.240,0:27:42.399
they’re they’re laying stuff
0:27:39.600,0:27:43.520
out in a very organized manner to get to
0:27:42.399,0:27:45.440
a larger
0:27:43.520,0:27:46.640
right because again you were very
0:27:45.440,0:27:48.720
concerned
0:27:46.640,0:27:50.640
hearing all of these different things
0:27:48.720,0:27:53.520
that were going to be coming out
0:27:50.640,0:27:55.120
where you kind of felt they were
0:27:53.520,0:27:57.360
saturating
0:27:55.120,0:27:58.480
absolutely everything but again like you
0:27:57.360,0:28:01.679
said because
0:27:58.480,0:28:02.320
they’re spacing things out and you know
0:28:01.679,0:28:05.039
it’s
0:28:02.320,0:28:06.559
i think gonna paint like you said paint
0:28:05.039,0:28:09.840
that picture
0:28:06.559,0:28:10.799
where the the fan that only watches the
0:28:09.840,0:28:13.919
movies
0:28:10.799,0:28:14.559
right you know doesn’t understand what
0:28:13.919,0:28:17.279
happened
0:28:14.559,0:28:19.120
in that 30-year time frame between
0:28:17.279,0:28:22.240
return of the jedi
0:28:19.120,0:28:23.120
and the force awakens like how did we go
0:28:22.240,0:28:26.320
back to
0:28:23.120,0:28:28.240
evilness right and the problem is they
0:28:26.320,0:28:30.960
tried to do that but they tried to lay
0:28:28.240,0:28:33.840
it out in the novels and the video games
0:28:30.960,0:28:35.360
right and the average fan is not going
0:28:33.840,0:28:36.880
to consume that so unless you’re a
0:28:35.360,0:28:38.240
die-hard fan you’re not going to get the
0:28:36.880,0:28:41.360
whole picture exactly
0:28:38.240,0:28:42.480
that’s why the television outlet or the
0:28:41.360,0:28:44.399
streaming outlet here
0:28:42.480,0:28:46.159
is perfect for this because the casual
0:28:44.399,0:28:47.919
fan will pick that up
0:28:46.159,0:28:49.600
right and you’ll get that and you can
0:28:47.919,0:28:51.600
delve into the
0:28:49.600,0:28:53.360
minutiae and the details and some of the
0:28:51.600,0:28:54.480
character development in the novels if
0:28:53.360,0:28:56.720
you want to
0:28:54.480,0:28:57.760
but you don’t want the plot hooks to be
0:28:56.720,0:28:59.279
in there right
0:28:57.760,0:29:01.360
you want the plot hooks to be out there
0:28:59.279,0:29:02.960
so that everybody can see it and you can
0:29:01.360,0:29:04.399
see that progress
0:29:02.960,0:29:06.240
and it sounds like that’s the direction
0:29:04.399,0:29:08.080
they’re going and as long as you know
0:29:06.240,0:29:08.960
favreau and filoni are involved there
0:29:08.080,0:29:12.080
you’ve got my
0:29:08.960,0:29:13.760
vote of approval absolutely so that was
0:29:12.080,0:29:14.640
all we had for tales from the edge of

go for entertainment news um so we had
0:30:42.000,0:30:45.200
some
0:30:42.480,0:30:45.919
sad news that that came out uh yesterday
0:30:45.200,0:30:49.200
morning
0:30:45.919,0:30:50.240
uh larry king the self-made man from
0:30:49.200,0:30:52.640
brooklyn who spent
0:30:50.240,0:30:53.600
six decades proudly winging it as an
0:30:52.640,0:30:57.120
interviewer
0:30:53.600,0:31:00.640
on the radio and as host of his own
0:30:57.120,0:31:04.399
nightly talk show on cnn had passed away
0:31:00.640,0:31:06.559
he was 87 years old he died saturday
0:31:04.399,0:31:08.480
morning at cedar sinai medical center in
0:31:06.559,0:31:09.600
los angeles according to a statement
0:31:08.480,0:31:12.480
that was posted
0:31:09.600,0:31:14.000
to his official social media accounts
0:31:12.480,0:31:15.039
the cause of death has not been
0:31:14.000,0:31:18.240
specified
0:31:15.039,0:31:21.360
but he had been hospitalized with kovid
0:31:18.240,0:31:23.919
earlier this month cnn went live with
0:31:21.360,0:31:26.559
the news shortly after 8 a.m
0:31:23.919,0:31:27.600
with the network anchor reading a
0:31:26.559,0:31:30.799
statement from
0:31:27.600,0:31:33.440
the cnn president jeff zucker
0:31:30.799,0:31:35.440
and noted how king had helped to put cnn
0:31:33.440,0:31:38.159
on the map and was a force
0:31:35.440,0:31:39.279
on cable and a force on television the
0:31:38.159,0:31:41.200
statement had read
0:31:39.279,0:31:43.519
we mourn the passing of our colleague
0:31:41.200,0:31:46.240
larry king the scrappy young man from
0:31:43.519,0:31:48.559
brooklyn had a history making career
0:31:46.240,0:31:51.360
spanning radio and television his
0:31:48.559,0:31:54.000
curiosity about the world propelled his
0:31:51.360,0:31:56.320
award-winning career in broadcasting but
0:31:54.000,0:31:57.279
it was his generosity of spirit that
0:31:56.320,0:32:00.799
drew the world
0:31:57.279,0:32:02.480
to him we are so proud of the 25 years
0:32:00.799,0:32:05.519
he spent with cnn
0:32:02.480,0:32:06.720
where his newsmaker interviews truly put
0:32:05.519,0:32:09.360
the network on
0:32:06.720,0:32:10.000
the international stage from our cnn
0:32:09.360,0:32:11.919
family
0:32:10.000,0:32:14.399
to larry’s we send our thoughts and
0:32:11.919,0:32:16.399
prayers and a promise to carry on his
0:32:14.399,0:32:19.919
curiosity for the world
0:32:16.399,0:32:21.200
in our work um he
0:32:19.919,0:32:23.440
you know what was kind of interesting
0:32:21.200,0:32:26.159
was that he never went to college
0:32:23.440,0:32:29.039
he never took a journalism class he
0:32:26.159,0:32:32.320
first made his mark in miami
0:32:29.039,0:32:34.240
and then to a studio in washington dc
0:32:32.320,0:32:37.840
where he hosted the first national
0:32:34.240,0:32:38.559
talk show in the u.s and attracted a
0:32:37.840,0:32:40.880
weekly
0:32:38.559,0:32:42.240
audience of three to five million
0:32:40.880,0:32:44.480
listeners
0:32:42.240,0:32:46.080
he then went on to host the larry king
0:32:44.480,0:32:52.640
live on cnn
0:32:46.080,0:32:55.279
from june of 1985 until december of 2010
0:32:52.640,0:32:57.360
and he earned a listing in the guinness
0:32:55.279,0:32:58.399
book of records as having the longest
0:32:57.360,0:33:01.200
running show
0:32:58.399,0:33:02.240
with the same host in the team same time
0:33:01.200,0:33:04.880
slot
0:33:02.240,0:33:05.279
um on cnn’s fifth anniversary king went
0:33:04.880,0:33:08.159
on the
0:33:05.279,0:33:10.159
air as host of the larry king live he
0:33:08.159,0:33:11.519
said i knew 10 minutes into that show
0:33:10.159,0:33:14.799
that it was gonna work
0:33:11.519,0:33:16.960
um and his first guest was then new york
0:33:14.799,0:33:20.720
governor mario cuomo
0:33:16.960,0:33:22.000
um he gave up the radio gig in 1994 and
0:33:20.720,0:33:25.840
then three years later
0:33:22.000,0:33:28.240
moved to l.a um any in the late 90s
0:33:25.840,0:33:31.519
the larry king live regularly reached
0:33:28.240,0:33:34.880
more than 1.5 million viewers a night
0:33:31.519,0:33:37.600
um you know he he went on to say
0:33:34.880,0:33:38.399
that you know many criticized him for
0:33:37.600,0:33:41.519
being
0:33:38.399,0:33:42.159
um too soft with guests and he said i’m
0:33:41.519,0:33:45.200
basically
0:33:42.159,0:33:47.519
who what where and when and why um
0:33:45.200,0:33:49.679
he said that i try to ask questions that
0:33:47.519,0:33:52.080
only take a minute or two
0:33:49.679,0:33:53.600
that only take two or one one or two
0:33:52.080,0:33:56.000
sentences to answer
0:33:53.600,0:33:57.039
if it takes three sentences it was a bad
0:33:56.000,0:34:00.080
question
0:33:57.039,0:34:03.279
he goes i don’t show off i you know
0:34:00.080,0:34:06.159
i don’t use the word i when i do an
0:34:03.279,0:34:08.399
interview you know he always said i was
0:34:06.159,0:34:11.440
wondering or let me ask you this
0:34:08.399,0:34:13.760
um and he would never go on air
0:34:11.440,0:34:14.720
with the idea of embarrassing a guest or
0:34:13.760,0:34:16.879
building up
0:34:14.720,0:34:19.040
you know he said i was always there to
0:34:16.879,0:34:21.839
learn you know from the guest
0:34:19.040,0:34:23.359
um he’s obviously interviewed tens of
0:34:21.839,0:34:25.520
thousands of people from
0:34:23.359,0:34:28.240
you know president nixon to vladimir
0:34:25.520,0:34:31.280
putin to tammy faye baker
0:34:28.240,0:34:34.240
um you know to paris hilton you know
0:34:31.280,0:34:35.679
he’s basically you know done it all um
0:34:34.240,0:34:38.480
you know and he also took
0:34:35.679,0:34:39.200
calls from viewers and and listeners as
0:34:38.480,0:34:42.399
well
0:34:39.200,0:34:43.839
um he had recovered from a heart attack
0:34:42.399,0:34:45.919
in 1987
0:34:43.839,0:34:48.800
he was smoking three packs of cigarettes
0:34:45.919,0:34:52.079
a day but he went back on television and
0:34:48.800,0:34:53.919
lost some weight and you know because he
0:34:52.079,0:34:56.399
had lost so much weight his wife had
0:34:53.919,0:35:00.079
suggested that he wear suspenders
0:34:56.399,0:35:03.920
and that became his trademark look um
0:35:00.079,0:35:04.640
back then um obviously not only being on
0:35:03.920,0:35:06.880
cnn
0:35:04.640,0:35:07.920
and doing interviews he obviously showed
0:35:06.880,0:35:10.880
up many times
0:35:07.920,0:35:12.720
in you know television shows and films
0:35:10.880,0:35:15.119
he was on murphy brown
0:35:12.720,0:35:16.000
american crime story he was in films
0:35:15.119,0:35:18.880
such as
0:35:16.000,0:35:19.839
dave uh the long kiss goodbye and
0:35:18.880,0:35:22.880
obviously
0:35:19.839,0:35:26.079
kids would recognize his voice as doris
0:35:22.880,0:35:28.960
from three of the shrek movies
0:35:26.079,0:35:30.880
yeah he uh to say he was a class act i
0:35:28.960,0:35:34.000
think doesn’t really do him credit he
0:35:30.880,0:35:36.800
was yeah he was an iconic interviewer
0:35:34.000,0:35:37.839
he knew how to talk to people yeah and
0:35:36.800,0:35:39.520
he knew
0:35:37.839,0:35:40.880
you know the one of the toughest things
0:35:39.520,0:35:43.760
when you interview people
0:35:40.880,0:35:46.720
is to to put them at ease and to get
0:35:43.760,0:35:48.800
them to relax and to feel comfortable
0:35:46.720,0:35:49.839
because unfortunately a lot of show
0:35:48.800,0:35:52.720
hosts out there
0:35:49.839,0:35:53.040
today are going for that shock factor
0:35:52.720,0:35:54.480
they’re
0:35:53.040,0:35:55.599
trying to get a rise out of their gas
0:35:54.480,0:35:56.320
they’re trying to get some kind of
0:35:55.599,0:35:59.839
emotional
0:35:56.320,0:36:00.640
outburst or emotional setting out of
0:35:59.839,0:36:03.839
them
0:36:00.640,0:36:05.200
and it puts a lot of interviewees on the
0:36:03.839,0:36:08.960
defensive when that happens
0:36:05.200,0:36:10.720
right he would ask simple things that
0:36:08.960,0:36:12.400
the average person would want to know
0:36:10.720,0:36:14.480
about these
0:36:12.400,0:36:16.240
and he had such a you know distinctive
0:36:14.480,0:36:19.359
voice that
0:36:16.240,0:36:21.440
instantly recognizable
0:36:19.359,0:36:22.640
and and he’d like even his sets when
0:36:21.440,0:36:25.040
went to the cast
0:36:22.640,0:36:26.160
that make you feel comfortable they were
0:36:25.040,0:36:28.640
such simple
0:36:26.160,0:36:30.400
right you know non-flamboyant sets that
0:36:28.640,0:36:32.000
you would sit there and
0:36:30.400,0:36:34.160
and you know you’d watch these
0:36:32.000,0:36:35.839
interviews and it was a one-on-one like
0:36:34.160,0:36:38.079
two people just happen to have a
0:36:35.839,0:36:40.000
conversation together right
0:36:38.079,0:36:41.920
and and the fact that he didn’t go to
0:36:40.000,0:36:43.280
journalism school or college or anything
0:36:41.920,0:36:47.119
for that
0:36:43.280,0:36:49.520
that’s natural talent right and and you
0:36:47.119,0:36:50.160
rarely see that today without it being
0:36:49.520,0:36:53.599
coached
0:36:50.160,0:36:55.359
heavily in people yeah so
0:36:53.599,0:36:58.640
it’s unfortunate when i saw that he did
0:36:55.359,0:37:02.400
have kovid given his advanced age
0:36:58.640,0:37:05.680
i was not hopeful right
0:37:02.400,0:37:09.440
what the outcome was going to be
0:37:05.680,0:37:10.800
but yeah he was he was a legend
0:37:09.440,0:37:13.599
absolutely you know we were all
0:37:10.800,0:37:15.839
fortunate to to have him and to have his
0:37:13.599,0:37:17.520
legacy
0:37:15.839,0:37:19.440
so that was all we had for entertainment
0:37:17.520,0:37:22.000
news we’ll be back
0:37:19.440,0:37:24.480
momentarily with our insightful picks of
0:37:22.000,0:37:24.480
the week
0:37:25.920,0:37:31.280
[Applause]
0:37:28.320,0:37:32.960
go for your insightful pick so my
0:37:31.280,0:37:37.040
insightful pick was one that
0:37:32.960,0:37:39.119
you actually had done couple weeks back
0:37:37.040,0:37:40.640
so now it was my turn to to give a
0:37:39.119,0:37:43.839
review of it
0:37:40.640,0:37:47.119
and it is the amazon original uh
0:37:43.839,0:37:49.119
the boys when you had reviewed it we
0:37:47.119,0:37:51.839
were in the middle of season one
0:37:49.119,0:37:52.240
and now we have finally um made it
0:37:51.839,0:37:56.400
through
0:37:52.240,0:37:57.440
season two and fortunately our heads did
0:37:56.400,0:38:00.480
not explode
0:37:57.440,0:38:03.440
um so
0:38:00.480,0:38:05.599
um so it talks about how you know
0:38:03.440,0:38:06.800
superheroes are often as popular as
0:38:05.599,0:38:09.280
celebrities
0:38:06.800,0:38:10.320
as influential as politicians and
0:38:09.280,0:38:13.280
sometimes
0:38:10.320,0:38:15.599
even as revered as gods but that’s when
0:38:13.280,0:38:18.000
they’re using their powers for good
0:38:15.599,0:38:20.400
what happens when the heroes go rogue
0:38:18.000,0:38:23.119
and start abusing their powers
0:38:20.400,0:38:25.040
when it’s uh when it’s the powerless
0:38:23.119,0:38:27.760
against the powerful
0:38:25.040,0:38:30.480
super powerful the boys heads out on a
0:38:27.760,0:38:33.680
heroic quest to expose the truth about
0:38:30.480,0:38:34.400
the seven and vaught uh the million
0:38:33.680,0:38:36.079
dollar
0:38:34.400,0:38:38.560
conglomerate that manages the
0:38:36.079,0:38:39.440
superheroes and covers up their dirty
0:38:38.560,0:38:41.920
secrets
0:38:39.440,0:38:43.119
uh the show is actually based on the
0:38:41.920,0:38:46.560
comic book series
0:38:43.119,0:38:50.400
of the same name um this was one
0:38:46.560,0:38:53.359
again that people at work had kind of
0:38:50.400,0:38:54.000
talked about it um we were kind of
0:38:53.359,0:38:57.520
hesitant
0:38:54.000,0:38:59.839
at first to start watching it and then
0:38:57.520,0:39:00.800
it’s one of those you kind of have to go
0:38:59.839,0:39:03.920
in and go
0:39:00.800,0:39:06.320
this isn’t marvel this isn’t dc this is
0:39:03.920,0:39:08.240
something kind of completely different
0:39:06.320,0:39:10.320
and once you get over the first couple
0:39:08.240,0:39:12.720
of episodes of season one
0:39:10.320,0:39:14.480
you kind of realize okay this is
0:39:12.720,0:39:17.839
something different um
0:39:14.480,0:39:21.520
they’re not afraid to kill off somebody
0:39:17.839,0:39:24.079
in a quick second um what
0:39:21.520,0:39:27.119
it you know so if you can get past the
0:39:24.079,0:39:29.359
goriness of some of the scenes
0:39:27.119,0:39:30.480
and you know take in the story it’s just
0:39:29.359,0:39:32.880
interesting to
0:39:30.480,0:39:35.119
to see a different take on things it
0:39:32.880,0:39:40.000
kind of almost reminded me of
0:39:35.119,0:39:42.000
i i can’t remember what um
0:39:40.000,0:39:43.520
what network the show was on and i don’t
0:39:42.000,0:39:45.359
think it made it past
0:39:43.520,0:39:46.560
its first season but they had come out
0:39:45.359,0:39:49.119
you know because again
0:39:46.560,0:39:51.040
all these marvel movies coming out and
0:39:49.119,0:39:53.359
all these dc movies coming out
0:39:51.040,0:39:54.079
and there was this uh sitcom that came
0:39:53.359,0:39:56.480
out
0:39:54.079,0:39:58.160
basically you know what happens in this
0:39:56.480,0:40:00.240
world of superheroes like
0:39:58.160,0:40:02.240
who’s doing all the cleanup you know
0:40:00.240,0:40:04.000
when they come in and fight some super
0:40:02.240,0:40:07.119
villain and you have all these
0:40:04.000,0:40:09.119
buildings that are uh you know destroyed
0:40:07.119,0:40:10.000
and all these cars that are overturned
0:40:09.119,0:40:13.200
and you know
0:40:10.000,0:40:13.920
basically it was the idea behind it was
0:40:13.200,0:40:15.680
kind of
0:40:13.920,0:40:17.440
what happens when the cleaning crew has
0:40:15.680,0:40:18.079
to come in and take care of things but
0:40:17.440,0:40:21.680
it was done
0:40:18.079,0:40:24.880
as a comedy where seeing this
0:40:21.680,0:40:27.119
it’s almost that that same
0:40:24.880,0:40:29.119
you know aspect of that behind the
0:40:27.119,0:40:32.960
scenes aspect of it
0:40:29.119,0:40:36.000
but much darker realizing that
0:40:32.960,0:40:37.440
you know now you you realize in in
0:40:36.000,0:40:40.319
season two
0:40:37.440,0:40:41.119
you know a lot more darkness that came
0:40:40.319,0:40:44.319
out a lot more
0:40:41.119,0:40:45.599
secrets that came out and again the
0:40:44.319,0:40:49.040
cliffhanger for
0:40:45.599,0:40:52.400
for season two was oh
0:40:49.040,0:40:54.960
okay where are they going you know
0:40:52.400,0:40:56.079
not everything is as it seems not
0:40:54.960,0:40:59.599
everybody is
0:40:56.079,0:41:02.319
on the team that you think they’re on um
0:40:59.599,0:41:04.480
so very well done uh the one thing that
0:41:02.319,0:41:05.359
we need to kind of go back and and watch
0:41:04.480,0:41:09.119
now is
0:41:05.359,0:41:12.640
they kind of had a um after show
0:41:09.119,0:41:15.760
show kind of like talking dead um
0:41:12.640,0:41:19.440
you know was the walking dead’s um
0:41:15.760,0:41:20.400
companion they had one for uh the boys
0:41:19.440,0:41:23.119
as well
0:41:20.400,0:41:24.079
and we watched a couple of episodes of
0:41:23.119,0:41:26.160
the first
0:41:24.079,0:41:27.119
season but for the second season they
0:41:26.160,0:41:29.200
were doing
0:41:27.119,0:41:30.640
one show i think every week as the the
0:41:29.200,0:41:32.480
new shows were coming out
0:41:30.640,0:41:33.760
so that’ll be interesting to kind of go
0:41:32.480,0:41:35.359
back and watch that
0:41:33.760,0:41:36.800
to see if there’s anything that we
0:41:35.359,0:41:39.680
missed uh
0:41:36.800,0:41:40.480
or that we didn’t see but again really
0:41:39.680,0:41:42.319
good show
0:41:40.480,0:41:44.400
you know if you’re into the whole
0:41:42.319,0:41:46.880
superhero genre
0:41:44.400,0:41:49.040
and you know definitely not for little
0:41:46.880,0:41:50.720
kids to watch because obviously there’s
0:41:49.040,0:41:53.920
language and there’s very
0:41:50.720,0:41:57.119
graphic scenes of
0:41:53.920,0:41:58.880
various different kinds but overall just
0:41:57.119,0:42:01.520
a really good show and we
0:41:58.880,0:42:02.400
definitely became you know fans of it
0:42:01.520,0:42:04.800
good pick
0:42:02.400,0:42:04.800
thank you
0:42:05.920,0:42:10.319
[Applause]
0:42:08.240,0:42:12.079
so my pick this week is a little bit
0:42:10.319,0:42:14.079
different it’s not a documentary or
0:42:12.079,0:42:16.880
movie or tv show it’s actually a
0:42:14.079,0:42:18.400
novel it’s the third actually in a
0:42:16.880,0:42:21.119
series of novels so
0:42:18.400,0:42:22.960
everyone knows that i’m a star wars fan
0:42:21.119,0:42:23.920
but there’s another sci-fi genre that
0:42:22.960,0:42:28.000
i’m a big fan of
0:42:23.920,0:42:30.319
it’s the halo universe uh halo being the
0:42:28.000,0:42:31.680
video game that was originally put out
0:42:30.319,0:42:35.200
by bungie for
0:42:31.680,0:42:38.000
the xbox there’s an entire story line
0:42:35.200,0:42:39.760
a series of books for it and continuing
0:42:38.000,0:42:41.680
story for it
0:42:39.760,0:42:43.520
there’s a recent trilogy of books the
0:42:41.680,0:42:48.240
last of which in that trilogy by
0:42:43.520,0:42:52.079
troy denning is halo shadows of reach
0:42:48.240,0:42:53.119
uh october 2559 it’s been a year since
0:42:52.079,0:42:56.319
the red engage
0:42:53.119,0:42:57.280
artificial intelligence cortana issued a
0:42:56.319,0:43:00.240
galaxy wide
0:42:57.280,0:43:01.280
ultimatum subjecting many worlds to
0:43:00.240,0:43:03.040
martial law
0:43:01.280,0:43:05.119
under the indomitable grip of her
0:43:03.040,0:43:07.920
forerunner weapons
0:43:05.119,0:43:08.560
outside her view the members of blue
0:43:07.920,0:43:11.760
team
0:43:08.560,0:43:16.560
john 117 the master chief fred
0:43:11.760,0:43:19.680
104 kelly 087 and linda058
0:43:16.560,0:43:22.800
are assigned from the unsc infiniti
0:43:19.680,0:43:26.000
to make khan to make a covert insertion
0:43:22.800,0:43:28.079
onto the ravaged planet reach their
0:43:26.000,0:43:30.319
former home and training ground and the
0:43:28.079,0:43:31.920
site of humanity’s most cataclysmic
0:43:30.319,0:43:34.720
military defeat
0:43:31.920,0:43:35.760
near the end of the covenant war reached
0:43:34.720,0:43:39.119
still hides
0:43:35.760,0:43:41.440
myriad secrets after all these years
0:43:39.119,0:43:42.800
lutein’s mission is to penetrate the
0:43:41.440,0:43:45.680
rubble-filled depths of
0:43:42.800,0:43:47.920
castle base and recover top-secret
0:43:45.680,0:43:50.720
assets locked away in dr catherine
0:43:47.920,0:43:53.520
halsey’s abandoned laboratory
0:43:50.720,0:43:54.000
assets which may prove to be humanity’s
0:43:53.520,0:43:57.200
last
0:43:54.000,0:43:59.200
hope against cortana but reach
0:43:57.200,0:44:01.599
has been invaded by a powerful and
0:43:59.200,0:44:03.599
ruthless alien faction
0:44:01.599,0:44:04.720
who have their own reasons for being
0:44:03.599,0:44:07.119
there
0:44:04.720,0:44:10.160
establishing themselves as a vicious
0:44:07.119,0:44:12.480
occupying force on the devastated planet
0:44:10.160,0:44:15.280
this enemy will soon transform blue
0:44:12.480,0:44:18.560
team’s simple retrieval operation
0:44:15.280,0:44:20.240
into a full-blown crisis and with the
0:44:18.560,0:44:21.359
fate of the galaxy hanging in the
0:44:20.240,0:44:24.720
balance
0:44:21.359,0:44:26.400
mission failure is not an option
0:44:24.720,0:44:27.920
so the book itself is the third in the
0:44:26.400,0:44:29.760
series it sort of builds to this
0:44:27.920,0:44:32.640
crescendo it’s all centered around
0:44:29.760,0:44:34.960
uh john 117 the master chief from the
0:44:32.640,0:44:38.079
video games themselves
0:44:34.960,0:44:40.079
and uh true denning does the
0:44:38.079,0:44:41.920
he’s uh he’s a fantastic writer he’s one
0:44:40.079,0:44:43.200
of my one of my favorite writers in the
0:44:41.920,0:44:46.480
genre
0:44:43.200,0:44:49.520
and and he has this this
0:44:46.480,0:44:50.240
technique of layering complexity on top
0:44:49.520,0:44:53.200
of the story
0:44:50.240,0:44:54.800
as you go along so every time you turn a
0:44:53.200,0:44:56.560
corner and you think you’re going to sum
0:44:54.800,0:44:58.400
up what the storyline is
0:44:56.560,0:44:59.920
something else gets added to it and it
0:44:58.400,0:45:01.440
complements everything that’s come
0:44:59.920,0:45:03.760
before it
0:45:01.440,0:45:05.359
so it’s an excellent read the whole
0:45:03.760,0:45:06.560
series is an excellent read i didn’t
0:45:05.359,0:45:08.240
review the other books
0:45:06.560,0:45:09.920
uh because i had read them quite some
0:45:08.240,0:45:12.240
time ago
0:45:09.920,0:45:13.040
i may wind up reviewing those on on the
0:45:12.240,0:45:16.079
podcast
0:45:13.040,0:45:18.880
moving forward but halo shadows of reach
0:45:16.079,0:45:21.920
by troy denning available now
0:45:18.880,0:45:21.920
and we’ll be right back
0:45:23.670,0:45:26.079
[Applause]
0:45:24.480,0:45:29.599
[Music]
0:45:26.079,0:45:33.599
so i think that’s all we had today
0:45:29.599,0:45:36.560
uh did we have any closing thoughts
0:45:33.599,0:45:37.760
um did we the one thing i did want to
0:45:36.560,0:45:39.760
ask you about
0:45:37.760,0:45:41.760
was what were your thoughts on the
0:45:39.760,0:45:44.000
events surrounding the inauguration
0:45:41.760,0:45:45.920
since we had such a celebrity
0:45:44.000,0:45:48.079
parade that came out what do you think
0:45:45.920,0:45:49.599
about that i think it was very
0:45:48.079,0:45:53.119
refreshing
0:45:49.599,0:45:56.160
um very unifying um
0:45:53.119,0:45:58.000
and you know the other thing too was it
0:45:56.160,0:46:02.560
was
0:45:58.000,0:46:05.599
so different just that one day
0:46:02.560,0:46:08.560
than the past four years have been
0:46:05.599,0:46:09.359
obviously we’re not shy we’re not you
0:46:08.560,0:46:12.960
know
0:46:09.359,0:46:13.680
um we’re very transparent when it comes
0:46:12.960,0:46:16.720
to
0:46:13.680,0:46:18.319
how we felt politically uh about and i
0:46:16.720,0:46:20.720
don’t want to villainize trump
0:46:18.319,0:46:21.839
in this i’m just curious oh absolutely
0:46:20.720,0:46:25.520
but just
0:46:21.839,0:46:28.160
you know it was nice to finally see
0:46:25.520,0:46:28.640
the country come together you know and
0:46:28.160,0:46:31.839
and
0:46:28.640,0:46:33.680
again it was a varied group of
0:46:31.839,0:46:36.720
celebrities and the other thing too is
0:46:33.680,0:46:38.240
even at the inauguration you know you
0:46:36.720,0:46:41.920
had lady gaga who
0:46:38.240,0:46:43.599
obviously very much a supporter of biden
0:46:41.920,0:46:46.480
and was very outspoken about it
0:46:43.599,0:46:47.280
and then you had garth brooks who is a
0:46:46.480,0:46:50.400
registered
0:46:47.280,0:46:52.480
republican and he was even there so it
0:46:50.400,0:46:55.359
was just interesting to see
0:46:52.480,0:46:56.319
nomadi you know no matter your party
0:46:55.359,0:47:00.319
lines
0:46:56.319,0:47:04.079
everybody was there for the
0:47:00.319,0:47:05.119
unified vision of you know the future
0:47:04.079,0:47:08.400
and just very
0:47:05.119,0:47:10.560
very positive you know outlook on
0:47:08.400,0:47:12.319
on everything very emotional it was uh
0:47:10.560,0:47:15.280
you know the inauguration
0:47:12.319,0:47:16.240
was uh you know very well done and then
0:47:15.280,0:47:19.040
they had a little
0:47:16.240,0:47:19.760
celebration of a america that that came
0:47:19.040,0:47:22.880
on
0:47:19.760,0:47:26.000
um that night afterwards and not only
0:47:22.880,0:47:27.680
you know was it um you know different
0:47:26.000,0:47:30.400
celebrities singing and
0:47:27.680,0:47:30.880
and uh you know showing up to talk about
0:47:30.400,0:47:33.839
things
0:47:30.880,0:47:35.920
but they also highlighted various you
0:47:33.839,0:47:37.040
know americans who have been making a
0:47:35.920,0:47:39.839
difference
0:47:37.040,0:47:40.480
since covid has hit you know you had the
0:47:39.839,0:47:43.760
ups
0:47:40.480,0:47:44.720
driver and you had um you know children
0:47:43.760,0:47:47.680
starting
0:47:44.720,0:47:48.720
you know donation foundations to to help
0:47:47.680,0:47:51.760
others and
0:47:48.720,0:47:53.359
and the nurses um you know that are
0:47:51.760,0:47:57.200
helping to fight and it was
0:47:53.359,0:47:58.960
it was a beautiful celebration to to see
0:47:57.200,0:48:00.800
yeah i agree i think they sort of
0:47:58.960,0:48:02.640
touched on all the points that needed to
0:48:00.800,0:48:04.559
be touched on
0:48:02.640,0:48:07.119
you know it was a i think the
0:48:04.559,0:48:08.880
administration in general is going to be
0:48:07.119,0:48:11.040
clearly a very different style of
0:48:08.880,0:48:13.599
administration in the past
0:48:11.040,0:48:16.160
and i think to start that new
0:48:13.599,0:48:20.160
administration off you kind of needed
0:48:16.160,0:48:23.599
this outreach this bringing together
0:48:20.160,0:48:25.760
you know this crossing the aisle
0:48:23.599,0:48:28.000
you know you talked about garth brooks
0:48:25.760,0:48:30.640
being a registered republican
0:48:28.000,0:48:31.760
i and i think that show of solidarity is
0:48:30.640,0:48:34.559
important that
0:48:31.760,0:48:36.400
it doesn’t matter what your party is
0:48:34.559,0:48:37.440
moving forward we need to do what’s
0:48:36.400,0:48:41.200
right for the country
0:48:37.440,0:48:44.400
right we’re all americans we are all
0:48:41.200,0:48:46.800
you know citizens of the united states
0:48:44.400,0:48:48.400
of america absolutely so i think it was
0:48:46.800,0:48:51.440
it was very well done it was
0:48:48.400,0:48:53.599
it was certainly entertaining and it was
0:48:51.440,0:48:54.559
probably the most patriotic thing that i
0:48:53.599,0:48:57.440
think i’ve seen the
0:48:54.559,0:48:57.839
our government put out and yes in a long
0:48:57.440,0:49:00.000
time
0:48:57.839,0:49:01.119
yeah yeah so good i just wanted to get
0:49:00.000,0:49:02.880
your thoughts on that sure
0:49:01.119,0:49:05.119
didn’t didn’t want to skip out on that
0:49:02.880,0:49:06.640
no problem before we do go i would
