- Despite Losing Grindelwald Role, There’s A Petition To Bring Johnny Depp Back To Pirates Of The Caribbean
- https://www.cinemablend.com/news/2558849/despite-losing-grindelwald-role-theres-a-petition-to-bring-johnny-depp-back-to-pirates-of-the-caribbean
- https://bit.ly/3m0vTaI
- It’s been a rough few days for actor Johnny Depp who, following a judge’s decision against him in a libel lawsuit he had brought, was removed from his role as Grindelwald in the next Fantastic Beasts movie. While it appears the loss of the role won’t be much of a financial hit to Depp, fans are still doing their part to get the actor brought back into another successful franchise. A petition has nearly 300,000 signatures, asking the Walt Disney Company to bring back Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow in the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
- A fan petition on change.org asks Disney to bring back Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow and is continuing to receive new signatures consistently even following the recent events in the actor’s life. Or possibly because of them. The petition argues that either recasting the Jack Sparrow role or simply replacing him with new characters ultimately will prove an unsuccessful move for Disney when it comes to the box office, at least in part because the petition also claims that the signers will not watch any Pirates of the Caribbean movie that doesn’t include him.
- It’s been a couple of years since it was first reported that while Disney certainly had plans for the future of the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise, that those plans did not include Johnny Depp. Since then, we’ve seen little in the way of specifics, beyond a report that one currently in development Pirates project could star Margot Robbie. This one is separate from the originally reported reboot, which is, as far as we know, also in development.
- At this point, it’s anybody’s guess what the odds of Johnny Depp’s return to the franchise actually are. Depp himself doesn’t seem to think it’s very likely. His defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard is predicated on the belief that Heard’s 2018 Washington Post op-ed was responsible for him losing the role of Jack Sparrow.
- Having said that, even if the new movies being planned don’t include Jack Sparrow as a main character, the possibility that he could appear is still there. If one or both movies being written do take place within the same world as the previous ones, a cameo is always possible. At the same time, while there are certainly many people who are fighting for Johnny Depp to be brought back, there would likely be a lot of people who take Disney to task if Depp was brought back.
- Until there’s an actual plan for a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, a finished script getting ready to go into production, we won’t really know what the plan is for the franchise in general or Captain Jack Sparrow specifically. What is clear is that there are a lot of passionate fans who care about what that outcome will be.

- The magic of Disney is coming to McDonald’s!
- To commemorate their anniversary celebration, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse have inspired a brand-new line of Happy Meal toys at McDonald’s.
- The toys bring the fun of Walt Disney World’s Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway—a new ride that opened in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in February—straight to the Golden Arches, where customers can collect up to 10 different toys based on popular Disney attractions.
- According to the Disney Parks blog, each of the toys can be connected together to form a 10-car train, similar to that of the Disney ride.
- Each toy also has a unique function to make the character move as it rolls (e.g. Goofy’s arm moves up and down when you push his train forward.)
- The line of toys include Goofy on Expedition Everest and Runaway Railway, Pluto riding the Jungle Cruise, Minnie on Dinosaur and Pirates of the Caribbean, Mickey on Space Mountain and the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Donald Duck on the Mad Tea Party, and Mickey and Minnie together in their Runaway Railway car.
- Customers can collect the new toys at participating McDonald’s locations now through Dec. 14 while supplies last.
- When purchasing a Happy Meal, customers can also enter for a chance to win a vacation for four to Walt Disney World Resort.

- Daisy Ridley defends Baby Yoda eating those eggs, and says Star Wars 9 was “Rey’s perfect ending”
- https://bit.ly/3kY9zgm
- The Child, aka Baby Yoda, caused a bit of controversy when he helped himself to some egg snacks in The Mandalorian season 2 episode 2.
- The eggs were Frog Lady’s last chance to continue her family line, and Mando was ferrying her to the planet Trask so she could reunite with her husband and get the eggs fertilised (no, the Child wasn’t eating babies). Despite a theory floating around that Baby Yoda was actually keeping the eggs safe in case their tank broke, it turned out in Chapter 11 he really was just hungry.
- Now, Rey herself has weighed in on the debate. Daisy Ridley, who played the scavenger Jedi in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, said to IGN: “Look, Mando’s gotta eat, [Baby] Yoda’s got to get strong. That’s just that.”
- Ridley added: “No, I’m like, “Yoda, do your thing.” The creature [Frog Lady] got to be where she needed to be with the eggs. It’s all good. It was beautiful.”
- As for if we’ll see Rey again following the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in her own Disney Plus spinoff, Ridley’s not really open to the possibility. “I think for me the beauty of Episode 9 is it ends with such hope and such potential. I just feel like that was Rey’s perfect ending. The big battle was in Episodes 7, 8, and 9.” She added, “I think really [Rey’s] probably running around the forest somewhere having a great time.”
- Episode 9 saw Rey defeat Emperor Palpatine (hopefully for good this time), declare herself a Skywalker and lay Luke and Leia’s lightsabers to rest on Tatooine, before watching the binary sunset.
- Ridley further explained her reasoning for leaving the rest of Rey’s journey untold: “I feel totally, totally satisfied with how that story finished. I just don’t know what else she could do that I didn’t have to do. Also, there are so many amazing characters in Star Wars, that it’s sort of an amazing thing. I was watching the new episode of Mandalorian, and it’s just like the places it can go beyond even where it is now is so exciting.”
- It’s good to hear Baby Yoda has some support from other corners of the Star Wars galaxy – and we did sort of get a tease at what Rey might be up to now in the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special.
- The Star Wars controversy that has fans fuming at Disney

- In a dispute that could have wide-ranging copyright implications, a science-fiction legend has come forward to state that Disney is refusing to pay him royalties he’s owed for novels to which the company acquired the rights.
- Alan Dean Foster is the author of a multitude of original novels and film novelizations, as well as an experienced franchise hand. He wrote Star Wars: From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker, the novelization of George Lucas’ 1977 film A New Hope (which was credited to Lucas as the author), as well as its 1978 sequel novel, Splinter of the Mind’s Eye. Most recently in the Star Wars universe, Foster penned the novelization of 2015’s The Force Awakens. He has also tackled the novelizations for Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Alien: Covenant, Transformers, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Star Trek, Star Trek: Into Darkness, Terminator Salvation, and more.
- Disney now owns the rights to Foster’s Star Wars novelizations From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker and Splinter of the Mind’s Eye, as well as to his Alien, Aliens, and Alien 3 novelizations, as part of the company’s purchases of Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox. On November 18, 2020, Foster and the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA), a non-profit writer’s organization, released a statement claiming that Disney has not been paying him royalties for these works, despite the books’ continuing availability in print and/or e-book form.
- According to the statement, in 2019, Foster contacted the Grievance Committee of the SFWA, which typically reaches out to the publisher after the author’s attempts have been rebuffed as a middle step before formal legal action is brought. Typically, in a successful case, the dispute is resolved anonymously for both the author and publisher. But the process apparently broke down with Disney, leading Foster and the SFWA to take his complaint public in what SFWA president Mary Robinette Kowal called an “unprecedented” step.
- Foster accused Disney of ignoring communications from the SFWA, his agents, and his lawyers, and of asking him to sign a non-disclosure agreement before even entering into discussion with its representatives. He wrote in his statement, “I know this is what gargantuan corporations often do. Ignore requests and inquiries hoping the petitioner will simply go away. Or possibly die. But I’m still here, and I am still entitled to what you owe me. Including not to be ignored, just because I’m only one lone writer. How many other writers and artists out there are you similarly ignoring?”
- Foster explained that the money is important to him because of his and his wife’s ongoing medical costs, but he emphasized that he’s not asking for charity; it’s money that he’s owed for the work he’s done that Disney is allegedly refusing to pay.
- “When one company buys another, they acquire its liabilities as well as its assets,” he wrote. “You’re certainly reaping the benefits of the assets. I’d very much like my minuscule (though it’s not small to me) share.”
- “Disney’s argument is that they have purchased the rights but not the obligations of the contract,” Kowal wrote. “In other words, they believe they have the right to publish work, but are not obligated to pay the writer no matter what the contract says.”
- She gives the example that if this theory were allowed to take hold, all a company would have to do to evade payment of royalties or other bonuses would be to sell the contract to a sister company, which would take control of the income but leave all the expenses behind.
- Twitter users took to using the hashtag #DisneyMustPay to show their support for Foster and to express outrage at Disney.
- In a thread about the case, author Cory Doctorow wrote, “Alan Dean Foster is an sf legend – a writer who produced a shelf of original novels but also made a reputation novelizing movies and TV from Star Wars to Aliens, turning out books that transcended quickie adaptations, becoming beloved bestsellers in their own right. […] Foster’s case is a gross injustice. He has cancer and his wife is ill. He wrote these books, Disney bought them. They’re making money from them. They owe him money. Period.”
- Hugo Award-winner N.K. Jemisin tweeted that Disney’s treatment of someone who helped make those properties beloved was “grotesque.” Meanwhile, author Joanne M. Harris wrote on Twitter, “WTF, Disney. Acquiring the rights to a book means having to pay the writer. #DisneyMustPay.”
- Various Star Wars fans tweeted things like “#DisneyMustPay, #AlanDeanFoster the OG Star Wars writer cmon Greed Mouse,” and “#DearMickey, I remember you also didn’t pay the writers and creators of the original animated version of Aladdin when you basically took their creations for that bleh live-action version. Now you’re doing the same thing to Alan Dean Foster. #DisneyMustPay.” Another tweeted, “This is theft, pure and simple. How many other authors are being abused by @Disney in this fashion? #DearMickey #DisneyMustPay.”
- Walt Disney World gives first look inside rooms at new Star Wars themed hotel
- https://www.mirror.co.uk/travel/usa-canada/walt-disney-world-gives-first-23019815
- https://bit.ly/3kTaIG5
- Walt Disney World has shared the first images of the rooms at its upcoming Star Wars themed hotel and it’s sure to be a hit with any budding Jedi!
- Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will offer a two-night immersive experience for guests. The hotel itself will be built to be ‘ship’ Halcyon, a “starcruiser known throughout the galaxy for its impeccable service and exotic destinations”.
- Disney has previously shared sneak peeks with artists’ rendering of the interiors to give fans a taste of what will be on offer – and now the company has unveiled an artist’s impression of what the rooms will offer.
- We reckon they’re going to be a hit with Star Wars fans, thanks to all of the detail, all to continue that immersive experience the hotel is promising to offer.
- The rooms are decked out to look like the interior of a ship cabin, with an orange and white colour scheme that seems to pay tribute to the iconic outfits worn by fighter pilots in the Star Wars films.
- The rooms boast an large double bed for parents, while little adventurers will no doubt love the themed bunk beds that are built into the wall, with artwork of panels which could be so kids can pretend they are controlling the ship.
- Each cabin will also feature a ‘window into space’ from which guests can look out for the likes of other ships and “galactic sights”.
- Josh D’Amaro Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, unveiled the new imagery while giving a talk at the IAAPA Expo: Virtual Education Conference.
- The new hotel at the Orlando resort is currently set to open in 2021.
- Budding Jedis will be able to book in for two-night stays for the fully immersive experience, where they will get to sleep in themed cabins, eat themed food, and even interact with the characters and crew members who wander around the ship.
- The experience starts from the moment they check-in, where they will be invited to enter a Launch Pod to head into space – jumping to hyperspace of course.
- Guests will also get to enjoy unique experiences such as lightsaber training or operating systems on the ship’s Bridge.
- Then of course there’s plenty of an excursion to the Black Spire Outpost on Planet Batuu, at the theme park’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. (You can check out our sneak peek at the land to get a taste of what’s on offer for guests who visit).

- What Wonder Woman 1984 HBO Max Release Means for Black Widow
- https://comicbook.com/movies/news/wonder-woman-1984-black-widow-hbo-max-what-release-means/
- https://bit.ly/2KzV325
- Wonder Woman 1984 is releasing on HBO Max on Christmas Day and fans are wondering what that means for Black Widow. Disney has been guarded when discussing the next Marvel Studios adventure for much of this year. Kevin Feige and others have echoed that Black Widow will try for theaters however possible. But, faced with reality, it’s time to embrace the fact that fans will be best served with Black Widow releasing on Disney+ at home while the coronavirus pandemic is still going on. Nobody likes that it has come to it, but at this point, people want to see these movies. It’s been a long year for everyone, and enough is enough. This might be the moment that pushes Disney to do what they’ve been putting off for months now.
- Bob Iger and others famously said that they didn’t see a path for a Mulan release on Disney+, but were open to any avenues when the data came in. History wrote that story, and the live-action remake saw it’s day on the streaming platform earlier this year as a part of Premium Access. Now, the question becomes for Disney, do they go that route for Black Widow or try to forge another way. It’s become obvious that to keep the timeline flowing and not remain stagnant, the film will probably have to hit Disney+.
- Warner Media’s decision around Wonder Woman 1984 signals something a lot of fans have been asking for since this whole coronavirus situation started: the benefits of dominating the news cycle overshadow the economic gains from waiting for theaters to be open again. Think about how dominant the cultural forces like Tiger King were over the summer with no MCU releases for the first time in a decade. It was made all the starker by the fact that 2020 followed the all-encompassing dominance of 2019 for the Mouse. For a company that always makes money, last year was a high-water mark that probably couldn’t have been repeated anyway.
- Black Widow occupies a curious moment for the franchise as well. This is the first woman-fronted MCU movie, and a lot of spectators were looking forward to seeing if Scarlet Johansson could move those Captain Marvel numbers. Wonder Woman 1984, and its predecessor, also served as bellwether moments for Warner Bros. as they had been struggling to find ways to serve half of their audiences with these big tentpole superhero movies. The ramifications of the Wonder Woman decision will be worth monitoring as it goes forwards. Fans of Birds of Prey will remember the hand-wringing over its theatrical numbers (despite them being cut short by COVID as well.)
- Will Black Widow come out on Disney+ by the end of the year? It’s hard to tell. One would hope that fans can see what they enjoy while there’s a tacit agreement between the creative teams and management that this release strategy would not affect decisions about these characters and how to move forward with their stories. However, we do know that Wonder Woman will be getting her day on HBO Max this winter.

- It’s good news, Charlie Brown: You’re coming back to broadcast TV.
- PBS, PBS Kids and Apple announced Wednesday that Snoopy and the gang will be coming to television for the holidays, after all.
- Though Apple TV+ has the rights to Peanuts content, a new deal with PBS will enable the broadcaster to air “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” and “A Charlie Brown Christmas” this year.
- The beloved specials will air ad free on November 22 and December 13, respectively, a release said.
- This comes in addition to the previously announced plans for the specials to stream on Apple TV+. “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” will be available starting November 18 and free to watch from November 25-27
- A similar approach is being taken with “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” which will be available December 4 and stream for free from December 11-13.

- Brain Games
- Disney+
- https://www.disneyplus.com/series/brain-games/7KcTpCZQnLa0
- https://bit.ly/370ZLx1
- Brain Games is an American popular science television series that explores cognitive science by focusing on illusions, psychological experiments, and counterintuitive thinking. The series debuted on National Geographic in 2011 as a special. Its return as an original series in 2013 set a record for the highest premiere rating for any National Geographic original series with 1.5 million viewers. The seventh season aired in 2016.
- Neil Patrick Harris was the unseen narrator in the first season, replaced by Jason Silva for the remainder of the series as its host and presenter; in addition, sleight-of-hand artist Apollo Robbins has been a frequent consultant and illusionist guest on the show. The show is interactive, encouraging television viewers, often along with a handful of live volunteers, to engage in visual, auditory, and other cognitive experiments, or “brain games”, that emphasize the main points presented in each episode.
- In December 2019, it was announced that a new format of this series, hosted by Keegan-Michael Key, would premiere on January 20, 2020. Its sneak peek was played on December 29, 2019

they’ve sniffed her and they’ve both
0:02:22.080,0:02:26.160
hissed and growled
0:02:24.400,0:02:27.440
yes they have they’ve acknowledged her
0:02:26.160,0:02:29.280
they have acknowledged her and they
0:02:27.440,0:02:31.519
realized a style of ways
0:02:29.280,0:02:33.280
right and they realized you know little
0:02:31.519,0:02:36.080
pumpkin isn’t going anywhere
0:02:33.280,0:02:36.400
so you know we’ll see how it goes so i
0:02:36.080,0:02:38.640
think
0:02:36.400,0:02:40.879
next week we will probably have our
0:02:38.640,0:02:42.720
insights into teens episode we’ll be
0:02:40.879,0:02:45.360
dedicated the pumpkin we’ll introduce
0:02:42.720,0:02:46.879
her show pictures and movies and
0:02:45.360,0:02:48.480
bring her you know into the studio
0:02:46.879,0:02:50.400
perhaps she’ll see you she’ll have a
0:02:48.480,0:02:52.720
guest appearance and so forth
0:02:50.400,0:02:54.080
set up a little spot for yeah but i had
0:02:52.720,0:02:55.440
to go off script there just
0:02:54.080,0:02:57.120
well thanks for your benefit well thank
0:02:55.440,0:02:58.959
you i appreciate it but we’re not
0:02:57.120,0:03:01.760
talking about that today today we’re
0:02:58.959,0:03:04.879
talking about entertainment news
0:03:01.760,0:03:05.760
so today in our disney detective maybe
0:03:04.879,0:03:08.800
there’s hope
0:03:05.760,0:03:12.000
for jack sparrow
0:03:08.800,0:03:16.080
mcdonald’s happy meals will be
0:03:12.000,0:03:19.760
a disney themed sort of happy mealy
0:03:16.080,0:03:22.879
thingy we’ll talk about that
0:03:19.760,0:03:25.840
nice a holiday special that’s
0:03:22.879,0:03:27.440
maybe not so special and we’re not
0:03:25.840,0:03:27.760
talking about the star wars one now
0:03:27.440,0:03:30.400
there
0:03:27.760,0:03:32.799
right right and then in our tales from
0:03:30.400,0:03:36.560
the edge of the galaxy
0:03:32.799,0:03:39.680
daisy ridley claims that
0:03:36.560,0:03:42.959
uh baby yoda and
0:03:39.680,0:03:44.080
oh she chimes sorry i’m i’m my eyes
0:03:42.959,0:03:46.640
aren’t working
0:03:44.080,0:03:48.000
if you actually read what i wrote i’m
0:03:46.640,0:03:50.159
going all script they said
0:03:48.000,0:03:51.840
damn don’t go off script she chimes in
0:03:50.159,0:03:55.680
on baby yoda and ray
0:03:51.840,0:03:57.599
star wars fans are fuming at disney
0:03:55.680,0:04:00.400
which i actually read that article was
0:03:57.599,0:04:02.159
kind of surprised by that one
0:04:00.400,0:04:03.920
and uh you all right there yeah i’m good
0:04:02.159,0:04:06.560
i’m sorry and uh
0:04:03.920,0:04:07.280
sneak peek at the new star wars resort
0:04:06.560,0:04:09.680
which looks
0:04:07.280,0:04:11.599
very cool yeah and then in our
0:04:09.680,0:04:14.799
entertainment news we’ll talk about
0:04:11.599,0:04:18.320
wonder woman 1984
0:04:14.799,0:04:20.400
and the un un
0:04:18.320,0:04:22.479
orthodox release of it and what it will
0:04:20.400,0:04:25.600
mean with
0:04:22.479,0:04:29.600
for black widow’s release as well and we
0:04:25.600,0:04:30.800
have good news from charlie brown
0:04:29.600,0:04:32.880
and then we’ll finish up with our
0:04:30.800,0:04:35.120
insightful picks of the week
0:04:32.880,0:04:37.360
uh before we do that though i would

0:05:23.440,0:05:28.560
are we ready to get into it sure all
0:05:25.600,0:05:28.560
right let’s do it
0:05:29.970,0:05:34.880
[Applause]
0:05:31.520,0:05:37.199
go for disney detective so last week we
0:05:34.880,0:05:38.080
obviously brought up the whole issue
0:05:37.199,0:05:41.120
with
0:05:38.080,0:05:44.320
johnny depp losing his role uh
0:05:41.120,0:05:47.360
through the warner brothers movies
0:05:44.320,0:05:50.880
uh that were the prequels to
0:05:47.360,0:05:52.320
uh the harry potter series um so now it
0:05:50.880,0:05:55.520
seems that uh
0:05:52.320,0:05:56.160
there is a petition going around to make
0:05:55.520,0:05:59.039
sure that
0:05:56.160,0:06:00.800
johnny depp doesn’t lose anything from
0:05:59.039,0:06:04.840
pirates of the caribbean
0:06:00.800,0:06:07.680
so in an article that was posted on
0:06:04.840,0:06:10.639
cinemablend.com it talks about
0:06:07.680,0:06:12.080
how you know even though he he lost the
0:06:10.639,0:06:15.520
grindenwald
0:06:12.080,0:06:17.840
part in the fantastic beasts movies
0:06:15.520,0:06:18.800
that you know now they want to do a
0:06:17.840,0:06:22.400
petition
0:06:18.800,0:06:24.400
so that he doesn’t lose um
0:06:22.400,0:06:26.240
his captain jack role in the next
0:06:24.400,0:06:29.280
pirates of the caribbean movie
0:06:26.240,0:06:32.960
um and as of the time the article uh
0:06:29.280,0:06:35.120
was posted they actually had 300 000
0:06:32.960,0:06:36.000
signatures now the interesting thing
0:06:35.120,0:06:38.400
which we
0:06:36.000,0:06:39.600
you know kind of talked about last week
0:06:38.400,0:06:42.800
was that
0:06:39.600,0:06:45.039
plans for the new
0:06:42.800,0:06:46.960
version of pirates of the caribbean
0:06:45.039,0:06:50.479
didn’t even have jack sparrow
0:06:46.960,0:06:53.520
in the role and this was even
0:06:50.479,0:06:56.560
decided kind of before
0:06:53.520,0:06:57.360
all of the the troubles you know with
0:06:56.560,0:07:00.639
him and his
0:06:57.360,0:07:02.639
his ex-wife even started so now
0:07:00.639,0:07:04.080
they’re saying you know give give him a
0:07:02.639,0:07:08.000
chance to
0:07:04.080,0:07:08.880
um the you know give him a chance to
0:07:08.000,0:07:10.960
actually
0:07:08.880,0:07:12.080
be part of it you know kind of show the
0:07:10.960,0:07:15.440
support
0:07:12.080,0:07:17.599
um for it so i guess we’ll kind of
0:07:15.440,0:07:18.960
you know have to to wait and see the
0:07:17.599,0:07:21.680
other thing too
0:07:18.960,0:07:22.319
that you know um the article kind of
0:07:21.680,0:07:26.400
talked about
0:07:22.319,0:07:29.440
is that his uh ex-wife is gonna be
0:07:26.400,0:07:30.000
uh in uh upcoming i believe she’s
0:07:29.440,0:07:32.560
supposed to be in
0:07:30.000,0:07:33.520
aquaman 2 and because of everything
0:07:32.560,0:07:36.880
people are also
0:07:33.520,0:07:38.240
saying boycott that you know to kind of
0:07:36.880,0:07:42.240
show your support
0:07:38.240,0:07:43.840
for um for johnny depp versus
0:07:42.240,0:07:45.759
you know her because now there’s all
0:07:43.840,0:07:47.759
this stuff coming out that maybe
0:07:45.759,0:07:49.599
she was really in the wrong and not him
0:07:47.759,0:07:52.000
so a whole lot of back and forth
0:07:49.599,0:07:54.400
you know with the two of them but again
0:07:52.000,0:07:57.280
just a petition who knows if disney
0:07:54.400,0:07:58.800
will actually do anything or change
0:07:57.280,0:07:59.919
anything because again you know i don’t
0:07:58.800,0:08:02.240
know how far along
0:07:59.919,0:08:03.919
they are in the script we really haven’t
0:08:02.240,0:08:04.720
heard much about it we obviously know
0:08:03.919,0:08:07.840
they haven’t started
0:08:04.720,0:08:08.720
filming it so who knows maybe they’ll go
0:08:07.840,0:08:12.800
in
0:08:08.720,0:08:14.240
and uh you know do something with that
0:08:12.800,0:08:16.479
well and that’s the thing like we had
0:08:14.240,0:08:19.599
discussed last week
0:08:16.479,0:08:21.520
disney doesn’t exactly have a spotless
0:08:19.599,0:08:23.599
track record when it comes to their
0:08:21.520,0:08:24.840
talent right you know you’ve got a lot
0:08:23.599,0:08:27.759
of people who
0:08:24.840,0:08:30.000
are nested
0:08:27.759,0:08:31.599
in controversy with a lot of the disney
0:08:30.000,0:08:32.880
stars especially the young stars that
0:08:31.599,0:08:35.919
they start out with and
0:08:32.880,0:08:37.919
right what they ultimately evolve into
0:08:35.919,0:08:39.200
um the fact that they’re calling for
0:08:37.919,0:08:40.959
people to boycott
0:08:39.200,0:08:44.399
you know movies that his ex-wife are and
0:08:40.959,0:08:46.640
i think that’s probably a little extreme
0:08:44.399,0:08:48.800
it’s been found in the courts that he
0:08:46.640,0:08:49.839
was guilty of spousal abuse so let’s not
0:08:48.800,0:08:51.040
lose sight of that
0:08:49.839,0:08:53.279
right you know we certainly don’t want
0:08:51.040,0:08:55.200
to glorify
0:08:53.279,0:08:57.120
any inappropriate behavior that he’s
0:08:55.200,0:08:58.080
done even if you do like the work that
0:08:57.120,0:09:02.240
he’s done
0:08:58.080,0:09:05.440
as an actor but
0:09:02.240,0:09:07.279
did he violate any terms or clauses of
0:09:05.440,0:09:08.959
of his employment with disney right
0:09:07.279,0:09:12.480
exactly you have to kind of look
0:09:08.959,0:09:14.720
at it from that standpoint right yeah
0:09:12.480,0:09:15.600
you know there’s disney has a code of
0:09:14.720,0:09:17.920
conduct for
0:09:15.600,0:09:19.040
for its talent and if if you violate
0:09:17.920,0:09:20.000
that code of conduct there are
0:09:19.040,0:09:23.839
consequences
0:09:20.000,0:09:25.120
right if he wasn’t in violation of that
0:09:23.839,0:09:26.959
maybe because he wasn’t
0:09:25.120,0:09:29.279
actively under contract at the time or
0:09:26.959,0:09:30.560
whatever then you can’t really enforce
0:09:29.279,0:09:32.480
it at that point in time you have to
0:09:30.560,0:09:35.839
treat him fairly like everyone else
0:09:32.480,0:09:37.440
right you know it’s it’s
0:09:35.839,0:09:39.440
interesting to see the kind of support
0:09:37.440,0:09:40.640
that he’s getting here that he wasn’t
0:09:39.440,0:09:43.360
getting
0:09:40.640,0:09:44.160
on the harry potter side of things right
0:09:43.360,0:09:45.680
so
0:09:44.160,0:09:47.839
we’ll see how it turns out and because
0:09:45.680,0:09:49.839
disney fans are better than harry potter
0:09:47.839,0:09:51.760
are they i don’t know i don’t know i
0:09:49.839,0:09:52.959
like them both but obviously i’m more
0:09:51.760,0:09:58.480
disney than
0:09:52.959,0:09:58.480
yeah harry potter wow let’s not judge
0:09:58.959,0:10:02.160
uh tell us about mcdonald’s and their
0:10:01.279,0:10:05.360
new line
0:10:02.160,0:10:08.399
of happy meal tools so if you are
0:10:05.360,0:10:11.440
a collector of happy meal toys
0:10:08.399,0:10:14.160
and you happen to be a disney fan
0:10:11.440,0:10:16.720
uh mcdonald’s has a new line of disney
0:10:14.160,0:10:20.000
world themed happy meal toys
0:10:16.720,0:10:23.440
uh the article came from people.com
0:10:20.000,0:10:24.160
and to it’s um so the line of happy meal
0:10:23.440,0:10:26.240
toys
0:10:24.160,0:10:27.519
are to commemorate the anniversary
0:10:26.240,0:10:30.160
celebration
0:10:27.519,0:10:33.440
so it’s mickey and minnie have uh
0:10:30.160,0:10:36.480
inspired a brand new of happy meal toys
0:10:33.440,0:10:39.519
um and each have um
0:10:36.480,0:10:42.720
feature a different ride uh from the
0:10:39.519,0:10:43.760
the park so you have goofy on expedition
0:10:42.720,0:10:47.200
everest
0:10:43.760,0:10:50.240
um you have the runaway railway um
0:10:47.200,0:10:53.440
you have uh pluto on jungle cruise
0:10:50.240,0:10:55.920
mini is on the dinosaur ride
0:10:53.440,0:10:58.320
and pirates of the caribbean mickey is
0:10:55.920,0:10:59.680
on splash mountain and the twilight zone
0:10:58.320,0:11:03.120
tower of terror
0:10:59.680,0:11:05.120
donald is on the mad tea party
0:11:03.120,0:11:06.240
and mickey and minnie are together in a
0:11:05.120,0:11:08.320
railroad card
0:11:06.240,0:11:10.800
and if you get all of them they actually
0:11:08.320,0:11:13.920
link up in a cute little train
0:11:10.800,0:11:15.279
um there was no haunted mansion one so
0:11:13.920,0:11:20.000
that’s why i wasn’t
0:11:15.279,0:11:22.399
going all crazy i wanted to get them
0:11:20.000,0:11:24.480
so customers can collect all the toys at
0:11:22.399,0:11:24.880
participating mcdonald’s locations
0:11:24.480,0:11:27.680
through
0:11:24.880,0:11:28.399
december 14th obviously while supplies
0:11:27.680,0:11:30.800
last
0:11:28.399,0:11:32.240
and also if you purchase a happy meal
0:11:30.800,0:11:34.560
customers can also
0:11:32.240,0:11:36.720
enter for a chance to win a vacation for
0:11:34.560,0:11:38.240
four to walt disney world
0:11:36.720,0:11:40.560
which has to be taken two at a time
0:11:38.240,0:11:44.480
because of limitations on capacity
0:11:40.560,0:11:48.399
right and obviously you know you know
0:11:44.480,0:11:48.720
i have various different happy meal toys
0:11:48.399,0:11:51.920
in
0:11:48.720,0:11:54.079
in my collection of disney because
0:11:51.920,0:11:56.399
disney usually comes out with something
0:11:54.079,0:12:00.079
every couple of years um
0:11:56.399,0:12:03.839
you know either anniversary park related
0:12:00.079,0:12:06.800
or so i’m curious which one is on the
0:12:03.839,0:12:07.440
one to commemorate the great movie ride
0:12:06.800,0:12:10.320
oh
0:12:07.440,0:12:11.839
yeah that’s right well that’s the one
0:12:10.320,0:12:14.079
the last one that’s their
0:12:11.839,0:12:15.519
their uh that’s the one that took over
0:12:14.079,0:12:17.440
the great movie right that’s the one
0:12:15.519,0:12:19.920
that took over the great movie yeah
0:12:17.440,0:12:22.000
yeah oh that’s actually cute i didn’t
0:12:19.920,0:12:24.560
realize that the little epcot one
0:12:22.000,0:12:25.120
with daisy and sauron oh yeah that’s
0:12:24.560,0:12:28.560
kind of cute
0:12:25.120,0:12:30.880
see now see now i might have to damn
0:12:28.560,0:12:32.959
see and usually what i end up doing is i
0:12:30.880,0:12:33.839
just buy them on ebay because this way i
0:12:32.959,0:12:36.720
don’t have to get
0:12:33.839,0:12:38.079
all the different happy eat the 30 mark
0:12:36.720,0:12:41.040
up and
0:12:38.079,0:12:43.120
exactly so for those of you that you
0:12:41.040,0:12:44.880
know are toy collectors or
0:12:43.120,0:12:46.959
yeah who knows when the next toy show
0:12:44.880,0:12:48.240
will be but that’s true yeah you can
0:12:46.959,0:12:50.399
probably find them all on
0:12:48.240,0:12:52.320
on ebay right now if you’re not you know
0:12:50.399,0:12:54.240
interested in actually having the
0:12:52.320,0:12:55.680
happy meal tour well i’m done i’m done
0:12:54.240,0:12:56.720
holiday shopping for you so i’m not
0:12:55.680,0:12:58.720
getting these for you
0:12:56.720,0:13:00.079
okay so you’re okay to go out and get
0:12:58.720,0:13:03.120
these oh okay good
0:13:00.079,0:13:03.920
thanks yeah the green light i’m so glad
0:13:03.120,0:13:06.079
to know that
0:13:03.920,0:13:07.839
so wonderful world of disney magic
0:13:06.079,0:13:08.240
holiday celebration let’s talk about
0:13:07.839,0:13:12.440
that
0:13:08.240,0:13:13.920
yeah so coming from the website
0:13:12.440,0:13:17.040
wdwnt.com
0:13:13.920,0:13:20.720
um the wonderful world of disney
0:13:17.040,0:13:23.360
magical holiday uh celebration
0:13:20.720,0:13:24.399
is actually doing its fifth anniversary
0:13:23.360,0:13:28.000
edition
0:13:24.399,0:13:29.600
now obviously because of covid and
0:13:28.000,0:13:32.720
everything that’s going on
0:13:29.600,0:13:35.440
this will actually feature a nostalgic
0:13:32.720,0:13:36.480
uh will feature nostalgic performances
0:13:35.440,0:13:38.959
of holidays
0:13:36.480,0:13:41.440
past so that’s why when i kind of teased
0:13:38.959,0:13:44.480
about it not being such a
0:13:41.440,0:13:47.519
you know special holiday special because
0:13:44.480,0:13:49.600
there’s nothing new it’s all repeat
0:13:47.519,0:13:50.720
performances on you know unfortunately
0:13:49.600,0:13:54.320
because of everything
0:13:50.720,0:13:57.760
um they are gonna have um a host
0:13:54.320,0:14:01.519
um who will be uh trevor jackson who
0:13:57.760,0:14:04.959
uh is from the show uh grownupish
0:14:01.519,0:14:08.000
and also uh derek and julianna hoff
0:14:04.959,0:14:10.480
will co-host uh as well um
0:14:08.000,0:14:12.079
so obviously they’re really the only
0:14:10.480,0:14:14.240
live
0:14:12.079,0:14:15.839
new i should say part of this everything
0:14:14.240,0:14:18.720
else our performances
0:14:15.839,0:14:20.000
from um you know all the various years
0:14:18.720,0:14:23.360
uh that they’ve been doing
0:14:20.000,0:14:25.120
the special on thanksgiving night um but
0:14:23.360,0:14:26.639
the the one thing that is kind of cool
0:14:25.120,0:14:30.399
is that viewers will actually
0:14:26.639,0:14:31.360
get a sneak peek of remy’s ratatouille
0:14:30.399,0:14:33.440
adventure
0:14:31.360,0:14:34.560
which will is the new ride that’s going
0:14:33.440,0:14:37.120
to be opening up in
0:14:34.560,0:14:38.800
epcot now that was slated to open up
0:14:37.120,0:14:41.040
this year but because of
0:14:38.800,0:14:42.160
obviously all the pushback it’s uh
0:14:41.040,0:14:46.079
supposed to be opening
0:14:42.160,0:14:48.480
in 2021 uh they’ll also be a sneak peek
0:14:46.079,0:14:52.160
of the disney and pixar’s new movie
0:14:48.480,0:14:55.120
soul which that premieres on disney plus
0:14:52.160,0:14:56.560
uh next month so the special will air on
0:14:55.120,0:15:00.160
thanksgiving day
0:14:56.560,0:15:03.920
um which will be at um 9 p.m
0:15:00.160,0:15:05.440
to 11 p.m okay well that sounds kind of
0:15:03.920,0:15:07.519
cool
0:15:05.440,0:15:08.959
instead of thinking of it as old
0:15:07.519,0:15:11.440
performances thinking
0:15:08.959,0:15:13.440
think of it as like a greatest hits
0:15:11.440,0:15:14.720
there you go disney’s greatest hits with
0:15:13.440,0:15:17.600
some sprinkles of
0:15:14.720,0:15:18.800
teasers for new and upcoming things
0:15:17.600,0:15:21.120
there you go i mean they’re going back
0:15:18.800,0:15:22.639
pretty far you got 2016 performances
0:15:21.120,0:15:23.360
here well yeah because they’ve been
0:15:22.639,0:15:25.600
doing
0:15:23.360,0:15:26.720
the thanksgiving show for five years now
0:15:25.600,0:15:28.560
so they’re
0:15:26.720,0:15:29.920
you know you got people on here i’ve
0:15:28.560,0:15:32.399
never even heard of before
0:15:29.920,0:15:33.440
that’s that’s impressive hey but
0:15:32.399,0:15:35.920
pentatonix is going to be
0:15:33.440,0:15:37.600
pentatonix is there that was actually a
0:15:35.920,0:15:40.720
very good performance so
0:15:37.600,0:15:44.560
kelly clarkson yeah jason derulo
0:15:40.720,0:15:46.320
one republic don’t know that yeah if you
0:15:44.560,0:15:49.120
don’t know i know boy’s the man boys
0:15:46.320,0:15:49.120
right voice man
0:15:49.440,0:15:52.639
andre bocelli right i’ll say that yeah
0:15:51.680,0:15:55.040
because i know you’re right
0:15:52.639,0:15:55.040
pronouncing
0:15:57.839,0:16:05.600
different size shaggy different shaggy
0:16:01.519,0:16:05.600
yeah look it’s a demsa demsel
0:16:06.839,0:16:09.839
tina
0:16:15.680,0:16:19.279
no matter what oh of course because
0:16:17.120,0:16:20.800
we’ll be home it’s not like you know
0:16:19.279,0:16:24.079
we’re going we’re not going anywhere
0:16:20.800,0:16:25.519
right pj’s on thanksgiving day
0:16:24.079,0:16:28.320
although i’m sure we’ll be zooming with
0:16:25.519,0:16:30.720
everyone i hope so that’ll be nice yeah
0:16:28.320,0:16:31.680
but that was all we had for our disney
0:16:30.720,0:16:34.079
detective
0:16:31.680,0:16:37.839
we’ll be back in a minute with our tales

go for tails from the edge of the galaxy
0:17:52.320,0:17:56.400
pew pew don’t do pew pew there’s no pew
0:17:54.320,0:18:00.000
pew
0:17:56.400,0:18:03.600
i have to it’s just it’s my thing
0:18:00.000,0:18:06.720
um so uh our our next story
0:18:03.600,0:18:09.360
uh talking about daisy ridley uh she
0:18:06.720,0:18:11.919
actually is defending baby yoda
0:18:09.360,0:18:12.480
um eating those eggs and says that star
0:18:11.919,0:18:15.919
wars
0:18:12.480,0:18:20.440
episode nine was rey’s perfect ending
0:18:15.919,0:18:23.760
so the article actually came from games
0:18:20.440,0:18:26.799
gamesradar.com and if you
0:18:23.760,0:18:28.160
hadn’t been watching the mandalorian i
0:18:26.799,0:18:29.440
don’t know what you’re waiting for but
0:18:28.160,0:18:31.440
anyway
0:18:29.440,0:18:32.640
what rock are you on what rock are you
0:18:31.440,0:18:34.559
living under
0:18:32.640,0:18:36.240
pay you know your monthly subscription
0:18:34.559,0:18:38.960
and just start watching it
0:18:36.240,0:18:39.520
but there was a lot of controversy
0:18:38.960,0:18:42.880
during
0:18:39.520,0:18:47.440
the episode where baby yoda was
0:18:42.880,0:18:49.600
eating all the unfertilized eggs
0:18:47.440,0:18:51.520
you know a lot of people actually you
0:18:49.600,0:18:52.640
know and and i didn’t include those
0:18:51.520,0:18:54.000
stories last week
0:18:52.640,0:18:56.080
but there were people that were like
0:18:54.000,0:18:58.799
that’s it baby yoda is the most
0:18:56.080,0:19:00.880
vile and evil disney character because
0:18:58.799,0:19:04.320
he’s eating all these eggs
0:19:00.880,0:19:07.760
he’s using the force to get it and uh
0:19:04.320,0:19:10.000
she had this interview
0:19:07.760,0:19:11.120
where um not only was she talking about
0:19:10.000,0:19:13.679
her character
0:19:11.120,0:19:14.160
but she basically said look mando’s got
0:19:13.679,0:19:17.280
to eat
0:19:14.160,0:19:20.400
baby yoda’s gotta eat as well and that’s
0:19:17.280,0:19:21.520
just that um and she’s like you know
0:19:20.400,0:19:24.160
baby yoda
0:19:21.520,0:19:24.880
you know you gotta do your thing
0:19:24.160,0:19:27.360
obviously
0:19:24.880,0:19:29.440
it was kind of cruel you know but at
0:19:27.360,0:19:30.000
least he wasn’t eating the fertilized
0:19:29.440,0:19:33.120
ones
0:19:30.000,0:19:36.240
so i guess there there’s that um
0:19:33.120,0:19:39.600
so she you know she is obviously a fan
0:19:36.240,0:19:39.919
of the mandalorian and obviously didn’t
0:19:39.600,0:19:42.880
see
0:19:39.919,0:19:43.600
any issue with what baby yoda uh was
0:19:42.880,0:19:46.240
doing
0:19:43.600,0:19:48.559
but then in the other part of the
0:19:46.240,0:19:52.640
article she was talking about
0:19:48.559,0:19:55.840
you know her whole um you know rey’s
0:19:52.640,0:19:58.080
um sort of ending i guess uh
0:19:55.840,0:20:00.240
with episode nine and she says i think
0:19:58.080,0:20:02.400
for me the beauty of episode nine
0:20:00.240,0:20:03.360
is that it ends with such hope and such
0:20:02.400,0:20:05.679
potential
0:20:03.360,0:20:06.400
i just feel like that was rey’s perfect
0:20:05.679,0:20:08.640
ending
0:20:06.400,0:20:10.320
the big battle was in seven eight and
0:20:08.640,0:20:12.480
nine and she said
0:20:10.320,0:20:14.480
and i think really rey’s probably
0:20:12.480,0:20:16.240
running around the forest somewhere just
0:20:14.480,0:20:19.120
having a great time
0:20:16.240,0:20:20.400
uh she said she went on to say i feel
0:20:19.120,0:20:22.640
totally
0:20:20.400,0:20:24.000
excuse me totally satisfied with how
0:20:22.640,0:20:26.240
that story finished
0:20:24.000,0:20:27.360
and i just don’t know what else she
0:20:26.240,0:20:31.120
could uh
0:20:27.360,0:20:33.120
she could do that i haven’t uh had to do
0:20:31.120,0:20:34.960
she said also there were so many amazing
0:20:33.120,0:20:36.480
characters in star wars that it’s sort
0:20:34.960,0:20:38.159
of an amazing thing
0:20:36.480,0:20:39.520
she said i was watching the new episode
0:20:38.159,0:20:41.520
of mandalorian
0:20:39.520,0:20:43.280
and just all the different places it can
0:20:41.520,0:20:45.679
go beyond even
0:20:43.280,0:20:46.559
where it is now i’m so excited and she
0:20:45.679,0:20:49.440
talked about
0:20:46.559,0:20:50.159
she doesn’t feel her character that rey
0:20:49.440,0:20:52.400
needs to
0:20:50.159,0:20:53.760
continue on because again there’s so
0:20:52.400,0:20:56.480
many other characters
0:20:53.760,0:20:58.240
in the star wars universe that she feels
0:20:56.480,0:21:01.120
it’s their time to kind of
0:20:58.240,0:21:02.720
come forward so kind of kind of cool
0:21:01.120,0:21:04.000
well it’s good that she feels that way
0:21:02.720,0:21:04.960
because her character’s probably not
0:21:04.000,0:21:08.559
going to go anywhere
0:21:04.960,0:21:08.559
right at this point in time right
0:21:08.720,0:21:11.760
was it the best way for her character to
0:21:10.960,0:21:14.799
end
0:21:11.760,0:21:19.520
probably given how
0:21:14.799,0:21:21.360
terrible the story yeah
0:21:19.520,0:21:23.120
you know i i don’t think you could have
0:21:21.360,0:21:24.960
gone a different direction once they
0:21:23.120,0:21:27.039
made her palpatine spoilers
0:21:24.960,0:21:28.159
palpatine’s daughter right a great
0:21:27.039,0:21:31.039
granddaughter right
0:21:28.159,0:21:32.080
um you couldn’t really go a different
0:21:31.039,0:21:34.240
direction there you’ve
0:21:32.080,0:21:35.679
killed off all the old characters except
0:21:34.240,0:21:38.400
for chewie right
0:21:35.679,0:21:40.159
which is ironic because in in the extent
0:21:38.400,0:21:41.760
expanded universe he was the first of
0:21:40.159,0:21:44.000
the classic characters to die and he’s
0:21:41.760,0:21:47.280
the only one that survived
0:21:44.000,0:21:49.039
plot twist exactly yeah so
0:21:47.280,0:21:50.400
i don’t know i mean i think you could
0:21:49.039,0:21:52.960
have done more with the character given
0:21:50.400,0:21:56.159
how young she was
0:21:52.960,0:21:58.400
i i think you could have
0:21:56.159,0:22:00.320
like the whole point of this last
0:21:58.400,0:22:03.679
trilogy was to bring the
0:22:00.320,0:22:07.039
bring an end to the skywalker saga
0:22:03.679,0:22:09.039
right and then have a springboard
0:22:07.039,0:22:11.360
for all these other things that could
0:22:09.039,0:22:12.000
have happened outside of the skywalker
0:22:11.360,0:22:14.960
legacy
0:22:12.000,0:22:16.720
right right and bringing someone in who
0:22:14.960,0:22:18.799
has that force power who has the
0:22:16.720,0:22:19.919
connection to the skywalker legacy but
0:22:18.799,0:22:21.760
isn’t a skywalker
0:22:19.919,0:22:23.520
right probably would have been the best
0:22:21.760,0:22:24.320
way to to kick off the next set of
0:22:23.520,0:22:27.840
movies
0:22:24.320,0:22:29.039
i could see that but that’s probably not
0:22:27.840,0:22:31.200
going to happen now
0:22:29.039,0:22:32.880
and i think disney you know after that
0:22:31.200,0:22:34.080
solo movie
0:22:32.880,0:22:35.600
kind of learned their lesson that they
0:22:34.080,0:22:37.200
can’t crank these things out like an
0:22:35.600,0:22:38.880
assembly line
0:22:37.200,0:22:40.720
they’re not marvel they don’t have that
0:22:38.880,0:22:42.720
rich of a story well and
0:22:40.720,0:22:44.559
it’d be different if they were actually
0:22:42.720,0:22:45.679
borrowing from the expanded universe but
0:22:44.559,0:22:47.679
right because then the
0:22:45.679,0:22:48.880
whole thing right they said no we’re
0:22:47.679,0:22:51.919
done with this you know we’re
0:22:48.880,0:22:53.919
marvel they’ve got 60 years 70 years
0:22:51.919,0:22:55.679
80 years 80 years of stories that
0:22:53.919,0:22:58.080
they’re pulling from right
0:22:55.679,0:22:59.600
that you know you’re you’re able to
0:22:58.080,0:23:00.799
bring that stuff in in different
0:22:59.600,0:23:03.440
elements you’ll bring it
0:23:00.799,0:23:06.559
in exactly the way it was right and star
0:23:03.440,0:23:08.080
wars is starting to learn that now too
0:23:06.559,0:23:11.440
but you know you look at the current
0:23:08.080,0:23:14.240
season of the mandalorian
0:23:11.440,0:23:14.720
and it’s kind of drifting back into that
0:23:14.240,0:23:18.080
realm
0:23:14.720,0:23:21.200
of unlikelihood
0:23:18.080,0:23:22.080
right because you know the mandalorian
0:23:21.200,0:23:24.880
was this fringe
0:23:22.080,0:23:26.400
character on the edge of the galaxy to
0:23:24.880,0:23:28.159
highlight the fact that there was more
0:23:26.400,0:23:29.039
to the story of star wars than just the
0:23:28.159,0:23:31.760
skywalkers
0:23:29.039,0:23:32.720
right right and now this season you’ve
0:23:31.760,0:23:34.720
got
0:23:32.720,0:23:36.480
elements from the clone wars creeping in
0:23:34.720,0:23:39.520
you’ve got boba fett creeping in you’ve
0:23:36.480,0:23:41.600
got ahsokatano creeping so now
0:23:39.520,0:23:43.279
you’re taking this huge expanded
0:23:41.600,0:23:46.240
universe that you’re trying to portray
0:23:43.279,0:23:48.320
and you’re contracting it again and you
0:23:46.240,0:23:50.080
have these characters like bo katan and
0:23:48.320,0:23:51.840
boba fett and all these other characters
0:23:50.080,0:23:54.159
that you know next week we’re expected
0:23:51.840,0:23:58.640
to see yep ahsoka tano
0:23:54.159,0:24:00.720
right and they overshadow the mando
0:23:58.640,0:24:01.679
so that’s kind of what i’m scared about
0:24:00.720,0:24:04.000
with this season
0:24:01.679,0:24:05.520
of the mandalorian is that it’s just
0:24:04.000,0:24:07.919
it’s going to become
0:24:05.520,0:24:09.600
you know the the typical production line
0:24:07.919,0:24:10.960
star wars of okay here’s all these
0:24:09.600,0:24:12.720
characters that we know and everybody
0:24:10.960,0:24:14.720
somehow knows each other and
0:24:12.720,0:24:16.159
we all go to tatooine for some reason i
0:24:14.720,0:24:17.919
don’t know why
0:24:16.159,0:24:19.520
you know this planet that was built as a
0:24:17.919,0:24:21.360
backwater that nobody goes to
0:24:19.520,0:24:23.039
everything everybody seems to be well
0:24:21.360,0:24:24.720
maybe that’s why everybody goes there
0:24:23.039,0:24:26.960
because they know
0:24:24.720,0:24:29.120
nobody else does but that’s the thing
0:24:26.960,0:24:30.559
like it’s it’s just so implausible
0:24:29.120,0:24:32.559
right because there’s all these other
0:24:30.559,0:24:34.960
planets and all these other
0:24:32.559,0:24:35.679
like for instance disney okay so we go
0:24:34.960,0:24:38.480
to disney
0:24:35.679,0:24:39.840
pretty frequently and there are times
0:24:38.480,0:24:41.760
that we know that you’ve got
0:24:39.840,0:24:43.520
friends from work or or something else
0:24:41.760,0:24:45.440
that are down there right right
0:24:43.520,0:24:47.039
and you don’t accidentally bump into
0:24:45.440,0:24:47.679
them because there’s millions of people
0:24:47.039,0:24:49.039
that are there
0:24:47.679,0:24:50.799
if you want to see them you need to make
0:24:49.039,0:24:52.720
arrangements right right
0:24:50.799,0:24:54.480
unlike star wars where everybody seems
0:24:52.720,0:24:56.400
to bump into everyone on tatooine it’s
0:24:54.480,0:24:58.720
like
0:24:56.400,0:25:00.480
it’s a big universe people let’s let’s
0:24:58.720,0:25:03.760
let’s all go someplace else
0:25:00.480,0:25:07.200
let’s explore so so why
0:25:03.760,0:25:10.640
are disney fans fuming now
0:25:07.200,0:25:11.679
so uh so the article that came out it’s
0:25:10.640,0:25:15.200
actually been
0:25:11.679,0:25:17.080
in various different uh news outlets
0:25:15.200,0:25:18.799
this article happened to come from
0:25:17.080,0:25:22.080
looper.com
0:25:18.799,0:25:23.679
and um what it seems is that disney is
0:25:22.080,0:25:27.120
refusing to
0:25:23.679,0:25:31.679
pay royalties to a science fiction
0:25:27.120,0:25:34.960
legend so alan dean foster is the author
0:25:31.679,0:25:37.840
of a multitude of original novels and
0:25:34.960,0:25:40.159
film novelizations as well as an
0:25:37.840,0:25:42.480
experienced franchised hand
0:25:40.159,0:25:44.240
he wrote star wars from the adventures
0:25:42.480,0:25:46.880
of luke skywalker
0:25:44.240,0:25:50.240
which was the novelization of george
0:25:46.880,0:25:52.480
lucas’s 1977 film a new hope
0:25:50.240,0:25:53.279
which was credited to lucas as the
0:25:52.480,0:25:57.200
author
0:25:53.279,0:26:00.159
as well as the 1978 uh sequel
0:25:57.200,0:26:03.039
novel splinter of the mind’s eye most
0:26:00.159,0:26:04.880
recently the star wars universe
0:26:03.039,0:26:07.520
in the star wars universe foster penned
0:26:04.880,0:26:11.000
the novelization of the 2015
0:26:07.520,0:26:14.000
force awakens he’s also tackled
0:26:11.000,0:26:17.440
novelizations uh from alien
0:26:14.000,0:26:20.880
aliens alien three aliens covenant
0:26:17.440,0:26:21.679
transformers uh star trek star trek into
0:26:20.880,0:26:24.720
the darkness
0:26:21.679,0:26:28.159
and terminator salvation
0:26:24.720,0:26:28.960
so the problem is that now disney owns
0:26:28.159,0:26:32.080
the rights
0:26:28.960,0:26:35.279
to foster star wars novelizations
0:26:32.080,0:26:37.360
um from the adventures of luke skywalker
0:26:35.279,0:26:38.799
and splinter of the mind as well as his
0:26:37.360,0:26:41.919
alien stuff
0:26:38.799,0:26:43.919
because uh lucas
0:26:41.919,0:26:46.640
because that was all 20th century fox
0:26:43.919,0:26:50.080
stuff which now disney owns all of that
0:26:46.640,0:26:50.640
so it seems that they have actually
0:26:50.080,0:26:53.039
stopped
0:26:50.640,0:26:55.120
paying the royalties on all of these
0:26:53.039,0:27:00.640
books
0:26:55.120,0:27:03.760
so there was so it was november 18th
0:27:00.640,0:27:06.720
he actually went with
0:27:03.760,0:27:09.679
the science fiction and fantasy writers
0:27:06.720,0:27:13.120
of american union
0:27:09.679,0:27:14.640
to kind of fight this and basically the
0:27:13.120,0:27:18.240
statement that came out
0:27:14.640,0:27:18.880
was that you know disney basically said
0:27:18.240,0:27:21.919
well
0:27:18.880,0:27:24.080
we bought the rights but we don’t
0:27:21.919,0:27:25.279
have to pay royalties on anything
0:27:24.080,0:27:27.760
because that was
0:27:25.279,0:27:29.120
basically you know those deals were made
0:27:27.760,0:27:31.200
before we even
0:27:29.120,0:27:32.480
owned it is really what disney is coming
0:27:31.200,0:27:35.600
out and saying
0:27:32.480,0:27:37.600
where you know the union is basically
0:27:35.600,0:27:39.039
coming back and saying when you buy
0:27:37.600,0:27:41.520
another company
0:27:39.039,0:27:43.200
you acquire all of its liabilities as
0:27:41.520,0:27:45.200
well as its assets
0:27:43.200,0:27:47.360
so if you’re reaping the benefits of the
0:27:45.200,0:27:51.360
assets you need to be paying
0:27:47.360,0:27:53.520
out so again disney basically
0:27:51.360,0:27:54.480
said in theirs that they’re not
0:27:53.520,0:27:57.039
obligated
0:27:54.480,0:27:57.679
to keep up with any contracts that were
0:27:57.039,0:28:01.520
made
0:27:57.679,0:28:04.880
prior to them purchasing
0:28:01.520,0:28:08.480
uh making the the acquisitions of this
0:28:04.880,0:28:11.440
so obviously twitter was all abuzz
0:28:08.480,0:28:11.919
when the news came out about this um you
0:28:11.440,0:28:14.720
know
0:28:11.919,0:28:15.679
basically everybody was saying disney
0:28:14.720,0:28:18.480
needs to pay
0:28:15.679,0:28:19.200
and the hashtag was hashtag disney must
0:28:18.480,0:28:23.279
pay
0:28:19.200,0:28:26.720
the other thing too is um he’s sick
0:28:23.279,0:28:29.200
he has cancer his wife is very ill
0:28:26.720,0:28:30.720
he just needs the money to help pay you
0:28:29.200,0:28:32.880
know his medical bills
0:28:30.720,0:28:34.640
he’s not looking to make you know
0:28:32.880,0:28:36.240
millions off of it he’s basically just
0:28:34.640,0:28:39.120
trying to survive
0:28:36.240,0:28:40.559
so hopefully you know disney will come
0:28:39.120,0:28:42.480
around and realize
0:28:40.559,0:28:44.080
you know the error of their way but this
0:28:42.480,0:28:44.880
was you know kind of a heartbreaking
0:28:44.080,0:28:47.919
story
0:28:44.880,0:28:49.520
for you know this author and he’s
0:28:47.919,0:28:50.640
probably not the only one that it’s
0:28:49.520,0:28:53.360
happening to
0:28:50.640,0:28:54.799
but who’s you know been doing this for
0:28:53.360,0:28:57.600
you know 40 years
0:28:54.799,0:28:58.559
40 plus years you know give him his his
0:28:57.600,0:29:01.039
do
0:28:58.559,0:29:02.240
yeah this is a typical disney move here
0:29:01.039,0:29:06.080
where
0:29:02.240,0:29:06.880
disney is leveraging its own muscle and
0:29:06.080,0:29:09.440
its size
0:29:06.880,0:29:10.080
by basically interpreting the law as it
0:29:09.440,0:29:12.720
wants to
0:29:10.080,0:29:14.720
which is advantageous to itself this is
0:29:12.720,0:29:17.840
very similar to when
0:29:14.720,0:29:21.120
we had done i you know we had had uh
0:29:17.840,0:29:24.240
the insightful pick of the movie
0:29:21.120,0:29:26.000
surrounding uh the lion kings
0:29:24.240,0:29:27.919
right and they did the sort of the same
0:29:26.000,0:29:28.960
thing there they basically acquired the
0:29:27.919,0:29:31.600
rights
0:29:28.960,0:29:32.080
indirectly not from the artist itself
0:29:31.600,0:29:33.919
but right
0:29:32.080,0:29:36.559
indirectly and decided that you know
0:29:33.919,0:29:38.480
they didn’t have to pay royalties on
0:29:36.559,0:29:39.679
and they lost in court you know well
0:29:38.480,0:29:40.880
they didn’t lose in court they settle
0:29:39.679,0:29:42.240
down
0:29:40.880,0:29:43.760
and this sort of thing’s probably gonna
0:29:42.240,0:29:44.960
have to have have the same effect
0:29:43.760,0:29:46.640
they’re gonna they’re gonna settle out
0:29:44.960,0:29:48.240
of court because there’s no copyright
0:29:46.640,0:29:49.919
court
0:29:48.240,0:29:52.159
in the world who’s gonna side with
0:29:49.919,0:29:53.760
disney on this yeah what disney is
0:29:52.159,0:29:55.360
hoping to do is that they’re
0:29:53.760,0:29:57.679
they’re hoping to fight long enough for
0:29:55.360,0:30:00.000
him to die from cancer yeah which is
0:29:57.679,0:30:02.799
which is criminal in what they’re trying
0:30:00.000,0:30:02.799
to do yeah
0:30:03.679,0:30:07.360
i i tend to bash disney a lot these are
0:30:06.320,0:30:10.480
the things that i believe
0:30:07.360,0:30:13.600
absolutely and i you know disney
0:30:10.480,0:30:17.679
the his allen dean foster’s lawyer
0:30:13.600,0:30:18.159
made a a case here and basically said
0:30:17.679,0:30:20.880
either
0:30:18.159,0:30:22.480
a you need to pay the back royalties and
0:30:20.880,0:30:23.760
pay for royalties if you continue to
0:30:22.480,0:30:27.279
publish
0:30:23.760,0:30:30.000
b you need to stop publishing the
0:30:27.279,0:30:31.200
works that you’re using and pay the back
0:30:30.000,0:30:33.919
royalties
0:30:31.200,0:30:35.600
or say you need to stop publishing until
0:30:33.919,0:30:37.120
you have a new agreement in place
0:30:35.600,0:30:38.640
right and pay the back royalties either
0:30:37.120,0:30:41.200
way you have to pay the back royalties
0:30:38.640,0:30:41.919
you don’t have a choice absolutely uh
0:30:41.200,0:30:43.600
and disney’s
0:30:41.919,0:30:45.120
disney’s really trying some underhanded
0:30:43.600,0:30:46.240
stuff on this one here and they’re gonna
0:30:45.120,0:30:48.240
take their lumps for it
0:30:46.240,0:30:50.640
yep you know especially given the
0:30:48.240,0:30:52.799
climate in which they’re doing this in
0:30:50.640,0:30:54.399
the the condition he and his wife are in
0:30:52.799,0:30:56.000
at this point in time
0:30:54.399,0:30:57.440
and the history that he has with the
0:30:56.000,0:30:58.960
star wars fans do you really think the
0:30:57.440,0:30:59.760
star wars fans are gonna let disney get
0:30:58.960,0:31:02.240
away with this
0:30:59.760,0:31:03.120
absolutely they’re not they’re gonna
0:31:02.240,0:31:06.240
tear disney
0:31:03.120,0:31:09.039
apart for this and justifiably so
0:31:06.240,0:31:10.159
yep so we’ll see hopefully they’ll
0:31:09.039,0:31:13.360
settle this out of court
0:31:10.159,0:31:16.480
quickly and and favorably
0:31:13.360,0:31:17.760
and uh and we won’t have to bash disney
0:31:16.480,0:31:18.080
too much on this because it’s not like i
0:31:17.760,0:31:21.200
don’t
0:31:18.080,0:31:23.279
need more ammunition to bash exactly
0:31:21.200,0:31:24.240
i mean this is this is just this is just
0:31:23.279,0:31:27.919
bonus here
0:31:24.240,0:31:32.399
too easy all too easy easy
0:31:27.919,0:31:35.600
nice every now and then i get a good one
0:31:32.399,0:31:38.159
so what’s our next exciting story so
0:31:35.600,0:31:39.120
let let’s change to something you know a
0:31:38.159,0:31:42.559
little bit more
0:31:39.120,0:31:44.799
upbeat so uh news came out
0:31:42.559,0:31:46.559
where walt disney world had actually
0:31:44.799,0:31:49.279
shared the first images
0:31:46.559,0:31:50.559
of the rooms at its upcoming star wars
0:31:49.279,0:31:53.840
theme hotel
0:31:50.559,0:31:56.159
so this article actually came from
0:31:53.840,0:31:57.360
the mirror which is actually based in
0:31:56.159,0:32:00.159
the uk
0:31:57.360,0:32:01.679
and it shows some of the concept are and
0:32:00.159,0:32:04.240
some of the actual pictures
0:32:01.679,0:32:06.880
again that disney has now shared of the
0:32:04.240,0:32:08.799
star wars galactic star cruiser
0:32:06.880,0:32:11.600
which will be offering two night
0:32:08.799,0:32:15.360
immersive experiences for the guests
0:32:11.600,0:32:18.240
so the ship is built at the the hotel
0:32:15.360,0:32:19.120
is actually built as if you are on a
0:32:18.240,0:32:22.240
ship
0:32:19.120,0:32:23.039
and the whole experience about it is
0:32:22.240,0:32:26.480
that once you
0:32:23.039,0:32:28.960
check in you’re kind of sent on um
0:32:26.480,0:32:29.840
you know on a smaller ship to bring you
0:32:28.960,0:32:32.640
to
0:32:29.840,0:32:32.960
your room and everything is is all you
0:32:32.640,0:32:35.760
know
0:32:32.960,0:32:37.279
immersive in it um what was kind of cool
0:32:35.760,0:32:38.080
was that the images that they were
0:32:37.279,0:32:41.200
showing
0:32:38.080,0:32:43.360
were almost exact to
0:32:41.200,0:32:44.799
the artist renderings that had
0:32:43.360,0:32:48.240
originally come out so
0:32:44.799,0:32:51.600
if you see here this view
0:32:48.240,0:32:53.679
is from the bunk beds that they have so
0:32:51.600,0:32:56.880
they have two bunk beds
0:32:53.679,0:33:00.159
looks like a queen size bed and then
0:32:56.880,0:33:02.480
you know your port your the
0:33:00.159,0:33:04.159
portal portal to you know to be able to
0:33:02.480,0:33:06.720
see and then i’m guessing
0:33:04.159,0:33:07.840
you know that one spot is actually a
0:33:06.720,0:33:09.760
television
0:33:07.840,0:33:11.440
that’ll you know and then it looks like
0:33:09.760,0:33:13.440
you have some storage
0:33:11.440,0:33:15.600
um one of the other views they show from
0:33:13.440,0:33:17.919
the other side
0:33:15.600,0:33:19.039
yeah so here you can see the the two
0:33:17.919,0:33:22.320
bunk beds for
0:33:19.039,0:33:24.080
your kids a little you know area
0:33:22.320,0:33:26.080
you know a little nightstand and then
0:33:24.080,0:33:26.640
obviously you have your hallway leading
0:33:26.080,0:33:29.919
to
0:33:26.640,0:33:31.519
uh the bathroom looks like your closet
0:33:29.919,0:33:34.880
with your um
0:33:31.519,0:33:38.720
safe as well as a little refrigerator
0:33:34.880,0:33:42.159
a little um vanity area maybe
0:33:38.720,0:33:44.720
uh so really it it looks like you’re on
0:33:42.159,0:33:46.799
you’re on a ship um you know what’s
0:33:44.720,0:33:48.799
gonna be cool is again you’re gonna
0:33:46.799,0:33:50.799
uh you know check in and then they’re
0:33:48.799,0:33:54.880
gonna you know transport you
0:33:50.799,0:33:57.120
to the the main ship um
0:33:54.880,0:33:59.039
and then again there’s going to be
0:33:57.120,0:34:01.279
different activities that are going on
0:33:59.039,0:34:02.240
within the resort or quote-unquote on
0:34:01.279,0:34:05.440
the ship
0:34:02.240,0:34:08.399
for you to do and then there’ll be um
0:34:05.440,0:34:08.800
a special way that they’ll actually take
0:34:08.399,0:34:11.679
you
0:34:08.800,0:34:12.399
to galaxy’s edge now they haven’t really
0:34:11.679,0:34:16.879
talked about
0:34:12.399,0:34:17.440
pricing um or anything yet they haven’t
0:34:16.879,0:34:19.839
started
0:34:17.440,0:34:21.200
doing bookings for this either because
0:34:19.839,0:34:23.520
they they haven’t said
0:34:21.200,0:34:25.440
okay well if you book at the resort is a
0:34:23.520,0:34:28.800
park ticket included or
0:34:25.440,0:34:31.919
do you need to additionally have
0:34:28.800,0:34:32.320
uh a park ticket to go to galaxy’s edge
0:34:31.919,0:34:34.720
or
0:34:32.320,0:34:36.320
is it you know something kind of linked
0:34:34.720,0:34:37.200
in because again we really haven’t heard
0:34:36.320,0:34:39.679
too much
0:34:37.200,0:34:40.399
but it kind of cool looking you know
0:34:39.679,0:34:42.960
something to
0:34:40.399,0:34:44.800
to look forward to um you know in the
0:34:42.960,0:34:48.320
coming years obviously
0:34:44.800,0:34:49.599
um again right now nothing uh is
0:34:48.320,0:34:52.399
available
0:34:49.599,0:34:52.960
um you know to book but it is set to
0:34:52.399,0:34:56.000
open
0:34:52.960,0:34:57.440
in 2021 book it as soon as you can i
0:34:56.000,0:34:59.359
don’t care how much it costs i don’t
0:34:57.440,0:35:02.880
care if it comes with a ticket
0:34:59.359,0:35:03.200
book it we’re going wait a second this
0:35:02.880,0:35:05.760
guy
0:35:03.200,0:35:07.440
oh we’re not going to galaxy’s edge for
0:35:05.760,0:35:09.119
a couple of years and what did we end up
0:35:07.440,0:35:09.520
doing we went how many months after it
0:35:09.119,0:35:12.320
opened
0:35:09.520,0:35:15.200
a few a few we waited a few months it
0:35:12.320,0:35:18.320
was a couple years in dog
0:35:15.200,0:35:21.839
is years oh okay so yeah so
0:35:18.320,0:35:22.320
i’m sure if you um you know keep looking
0:35:21.839,0:35:24.079
on
0:35:22.320,0:35:26.400
on the website as soon as something
0:35:24.079,0:35:28.480
becomes available i’m sure it’ll
0:35:26.400,0:35:30.079
pop up so we had talked about this
0:35:28.480,0:35:32.240
before when they they had originally
0:35:30.079,0:35:33.599
announced this they had announced
0:35:32.240,0:35:36.079
that they were going to have limited
0:35:33.599,0:35:36.560
stays there so it’s just for a couple of
0:35:36.079,0:35:39.599
days
0:35:36.560,0:35:41.440
right yeah you can only do um you know
0:35:39.599,0:35:43.440
in this article it just
0:35:41.440,0:35:46.160
really talked about a two-night
0:35:43.440,0:35:49.040
immersive experience so
0:35:46.160,0:35:50.400
i don’t think you can get so it’s one of
0:35:49.040,0:35:53.040
these if we go down for
0:35:50.400,0:35:55.040
a week we have to make multiple two
0:35:53.040,0:35:58.480
nights there and then however
0:35:55.040,0:36:00.880
not that we don’t resort hop from
0:35:58.480,0:36:01.599
place to place because of the uh what’s
0:36:00.880,0:36:04.960
available
0:36:01.599,0:36:06.720
right no because well and the reason why
0:36:04.960,0:36:07.200
we did that the last time was when we
0:36:06.720,0:36:10.800
made
0:36:07.200,0:36:13.440
our uh vacation plans
0:36:10.800,0:36:14.079
we did them within a short period of
0:36:13.440,0:36:16.240
time
0:36:14.079,0:36:18.560
we also did it over christmas too right
0:36:16.240,0:36:19.200
so we so one we picked the week of
0:36:18.560,0:36:22.320
christmas
0:36:19.200,0:36:22.800
we hit how many resorts at time four did
0:36:22.320,0:36:25.359
we do
0:36:22.800,0:36:26.320
four because we did vero we did hilton
0:36:25.359,0:36:27.920
we did
0:36:26.320,0:36:31.040
well because we did hilton head on the
0:36:27.920,0:36:33.119
way home right we went to vero beach
0:36:31.040,0:36:34.400
because we weren’t we didn’t want to
0:36:33.119,0:36:37.599
stay
0:36:34.400,0:36:40.880
on property and i think we did
0:36:37.599,0:36:42.400
two we did two different resorts right
0:36:40.880,0:36:45.440
because
0:36:42.400,0:36:47.839
uh grant not grand floridian
0:36:45.440,0:36:50.000
uh the big one the where we had the big
0:36:47.839,0:36:53.040
room
0:36:50.000,0:36:54.000
oh we did that one that time yeah that
0:36:53.040,0:36:56.480
was uh old
0:36:54.000,0:36:58.000
key west key west right because we did
0:36:56.480,0:37:00.160
old key west
0:36:58.000,0:37:01.040
uh saratoga right because when we
0:37:00.160,0:37:03.680
changed our
0:37:01.040,0:37:05.359
dates around we needed an extra we
0:37:03.680,0:37:08.560
realized we were getting down there
0:37:05.359,0:37:10.320
a day early so and we blew like
0:37:08.560,0:37:12.160
a gazillion not a gazillion but it
0:37:10.320,0:37:13.440
seemed like just for one night we stayed
0:37:12.160,0:37:16.400
in this three bedroom
0:37:13.440,0:37:17.200
we spent a five night stay in one one
0:37:16.400,0:37:19.680
suite
0:37:17.200,0:37:20.480
we were only there it was cool it was
0:37:19.680,0:37:23.520
cool it was
0:37:20.480,0:37:26.560
cool it was definitely you know an
0:37:23.520,0:37:29.440
interesting experience and one for
0:37:26.560,0:37:31.680
when things are a little bit more normal
0:37:29.440,0:37:34.320
we realized we could bring
0:37:31.680,0:37:36.000
you know a lot of friends with us 10
0:37:34.320,0:37:38.000
people i think there it was like
0:37:36.000,0:37:40.160
ten or nine or something because you had
0:37:38.000,0:37:41.920
the master bedroom
0:37:40.160,0:37:43.839
and then you had the actually the other
0:37:41.920,0:37:44.640
two bubbles right yeah and then the
0:37:43.839,0:37:46.400
couch
0:37:44.640,0:37:47.760
in the main yeah cause you had two other
0:37:46.400,0:37:50.880
bedrooms with
0:37:47.760,0:37:52.960
that could sleep for
0:37:50.880,0:37:54.400
well no you had one one bedroom that
0:37:52.960,0:37:55.839
could be a master bedroom
0:37:54.400,0:37:57.599
right that could sleep for and then you
0:37:55.839,0:38:01.200
sleep for right right
0:37:57.599,0:38:02.960
and then you had the the couch sleep
0:38:01.200,0:38:04.800
somebody could go on the deck because
0:38:02.960,0:38:06.240
the chair itself the one chair was a
0:38:04.800,0:38:08.720
single
0:38:06.240,0:38:09.680
yeah yeah with a full kitchen and and
0:38:08.720,0:38:11.839
everything so
0:38:09.680,0:38:13.359
four resorts and one trip yeah that was
0:38:11.839,0:38:15.760
that that was fun
0:38:13.359,0:38:16.720
yeah it was interesting so but we’ll do
0:38:15.760,0:38:18.560
the same thing here
0:38:16.720,0:38:19.760
yeah we’ll definitely and i’m sure
0:38:18.560,0:38:21.119
everybody else will be
0:38:19.760,0:38:22.880
you know doing the same thing because
0:38:21.119,0:38:25.440
again most people you know
0:38:22.880,0:38:27.200
go down for more than just two days so
0:38:25.440,0:38:29.200
so should be fun
0:38:27.200,0:38:31.119
keep our eye out as soon as it’s
0:38:29.200,0:38:33.119
available we’ll book it and then we’ll
0:38:31.119,0:38:36.480
let everyone else know
0:38:33.119,0:38:37.760
we got to get ours in first nice for the
0:38:36.480,0:38:39.119
sake of the show so we go down there
0:38:37.760,0:38:41.839
right exactly
0:38:39.119,0:38:42.480
exactly it’s all for you guys exactly
0:38:41.839,0:38:45.359
our
0:38:42.480,0:38:47.040
watchers so that was all we had for our
0:38:45.359,0:38:48.320
tales from the edge of the galaxy we’ll
0:38:47.040,0:38:49.280

0:40:00.240,0:40:07.440
go for entertainment news so
0:40:03.359,0:40:10.480
um what does wonder woman 1984
0:40:07.440,0:40:14.200
mean for black widow and other
0:40:10.480,0:40:17.520
various movies so this article came from
0:40:14.200,0:40:18.960
comicbook.com and it was announced uh
0:40:17.520,0:40:21.760
earlier this week
0:40:18.960,0:40:23.680
that wonder woman 1984 was actually
0:40:21.760,0:40:26.720
going to be released not only
0:40:23.680,0:40:30.079
in the theaters but also on
0:40:26.720,0:40:33.520
hbo max which is hbo’s
0:40:30.079,0:40:35.680
streaming add-on service
0:40:33.520,0:40:36.640
it’s going to be coming out on christmas
0:40:35.680,0:40:39.440
day
0:40:36.640,0:40:39.760
and a different article actually that i
0:40:39.440,0:40:42.000
read
0:40:39.760,0:40:43.839
uh this morning talked about that it was
0:40:42.000,0:40:46.880
actually only going to be
0:40:43.839,0:40:48.480
on hbo max for a month
0:40:46.880,0:40:50.800
so it’s just going to be from december
0:40:48.480,0:40:53.599
25th to january 25th
0:40:50.800,0:40:54.400
and then just regular uh theatrical
0:40:53.599,0:40:57.680
release
0:40:54.400,0:40:59.119
but again with this coming out what does
0:40:57.680,0:41:00.960
it mean for black widow
0:40:59.119,0:41:03.520
because that was actually the next
0:41:00.960,0:41:07.119
marvel movie that was supposed to be
0:41:03.520,0:41:07.920
released and now we have no dates as of
0:41:07.119,0:41:10.960
right now
0:41:07.920,0:41:14.640
when it’s going to be coming out so
0:41:10.960,0:41:15.680
it kind of you know uh you know disney
0:41:14.640,0:41:19.280
was definitely
0:41:15.680,0:41:22.880
one who didn’t want to bring anything
0:41:19.280,0:41:26.000
to the streaming side of things
0:41:22.880,0:41:26.800
and then obviously with the way things
0:41:26.000,0:41:28.880
kind of
0:41:26.800,0:41:31.280
went in the beginning of the year mulan
0:41:28.880,0:41:34.800
kept getting pushed back and pushed back
0:41:31.280,0:41:37.119
and then mulan finally got released
0:41:34.800,0:41:38.240
excuse me on disney plus but they did
0:41:37.119,0:41:41.440
the whole
0:41:38.240,0:41:43.680
tier um uh thing
0:41:41.440,0:41:45.520
where you had to pay the extra you know
0:41:43.680,0:41:46.880
30 dollars to be able to watch it right
0:41:45.520,0:41:49.280
then and there
0:41:46.880,0:41:50.079
we were going to do it and then we just
0:41:49.280,0:41:53.280
never
0:41:50.079,0:41:53.920
got around to it so now in what a couple
0:41:53.280,0:41:57.280
of weeks
0:41:53.920,0:41:58.240
we’ll be able to watch mulan as part of
0:41:57.280,0:42:00.560
regular
0:41:58.240,0:42:01.280
disney plus but the interesting thing is
0:42:00.560,0:42:04.400
that for
0:42:01.280,0:42:05.280
uh wonder woman in 1984 there is no
0:42:04.400,0:42:07.599
special
0:42:05.280,0:42:08.800
tier it’s just part of your regular
0:42:07.599,0:42:12.000
membership
0:42:08.800,0:42:15.040
and um in
0:42:12.000,0:42:17.680
looking at it it’s only 14.99
0:42:15.040,0:42:19.280
a month so i could definitely see a lot
0:42:17.680,0:42:22.800
of people
0:42:19.280,0:42:25.040
paying more you know paying
0:42:22.800,0:42:28.400
more people to pay to be able to see
0:42:25.040,0:42:31.440
wonder woman than maybe they did to see
0:42:28.400,0:42:33.760
mulan because you figure it’s you know
0:42:31.440,0:42:34.880
15 bucks if we were gonna go to the
0:42:33.760,0:42:37.920
movies
0:42:34.880,0:42:38.800
we’d be paying 45 you know for for all
0:42:37.920,0:42:40.319
of us to see it
0:42:38.800,0:42:42.960
and the fact that it’s only going to be
0:42:40.319,0:42:44.880
available for the one month and then
0:42:42.960,0:42:47.440
after that you know it
0:42:44.880,0:42:48.160
it goes away but again what does this
0:42:47.440,0:42:51.200
mean
0:42:48.160,0:42:53.280
you know for other uh you know movies
0:42:51.200,0:42:54.880
you know that disney has planned you
0:42:53.280,0:42:55.839
know obviously originally when
0:42:54.880,0:42:58.960
everything
0:42:55.839,0:43:01.280
um you know was going on you know bob
0:42:58.960,0:43:03.119
iger came out and said that you know he
0:43:01.280,0:43:05.040
didn’t see
0:43:03.119,0:43:07.200
you know all of their big movies really
0:43:05.040,0:43:10.800
going you know to streaming
0:43:07.200,0:43:12.640
or to be on you know any of those
0:43:10.800,0:43:13.680
platforms they really needed to be in
0:43:12.640,0:43:16.640
the theaters and then
0:43:13.680,0:43:18.160
obviously as time went on and things
0:43:16.640,0:43:20.000
kind of kept getting
0:43:18.160,0:43:21.680
you know pushed back and pushed back
0:43:20.000,0:43:23.680
they realized
0:43:21.680,0:43:25.359
they needed to do something with it and
0:43:23.680,0:43:28.560
i think it was a smart move for
0:43:25.359,0:43:30.960
for them to do that so now it kind of
0:43:28.560,0:43:31.760
makes you wonder is it something where
0:43:30.960,0:43:34.160
maybe
0:43:31.760,0:43:36.079
you know probably we probably won’t see
0:43:34.160,0:43:38.160
anything before the end of the year
0:43:36.079,0:43:40.079
because they do have some other things
0:43:38.160,0:43:43.040
uh you know coming out on disney
0:43:40.079,0:43:45.440
plus we have the the disney pixar uh
0:43:43.040,0:43:47.280
movie soul that’ll be next month
0:43:45.440,0:43:49.680
um and then we’re supposed to be getting
0:43:47.280,0:43:52.400
uh some of the wanda vision
0:43:49.680,0:43:53.680
stuff coming out um so maybe this is
0:43:52.400,0:43:56.000
something they’re planning
0:43:53.680,0:43:57.680
for the beginning of next year if things
0:43:56.000,0:44:00.640
don’t start
0:43:57.680,0:44:01.520
looking any better with you know covet
0:44:00.640,0:44:04.000
cases and the
0:44:01.520,0:44:05.280
and the numbers you know within the us
0:44:04.000,0:44:07.599
maybe disney will
0:44:05.280,0:44:09.040
finally decide you know what let’s just
0:44:07.599,0:44:12.160
put it on disney plus to
0:44:09.040,0:44:13.200
to get it out there so what amazes me is
0:44:12.160,0:44:16.640
the fact that
0:44:13.200,0:44:20.079
they’ve been in this quarantine mode now
0:44:16.640,0:44:21.359
for how many months now 10 months now
0:44:20.079,0:44:24.560
almost
0:44:21.359,0:44:27.760
and they still haven’t come up with
0:44:24.560,0:44:28.319
a viable workable way of doing this
0:44:27.760,0:44:30.800
everyone’s
0:44:28.319,0:44:31.359
sort of testing the waters 10 months
0:44:30.800,0:44:35.119
into this
0:44:31.359,0:44:37.599
yeah and you’ve got movies and
0:44:35.119,0:44:40.000
tv shows to a lesser extent that are in
0:44:37.599,0:44:41.599
production now
0:44:40.000,0:44:43.040
and they still don’t have a plan on how
0:44:41.599,0:44:44.960
they’re going to roll these out like i
0:44:43.040,0:44:46.240
could almost see them having a
0:44:44.960,0:44:48.319
pay-per-view option
0:44:46.240,0:44:49.280
right because you have to make your
0:44:48.319,0:44:51.040
money back on these
0:44:49.280,0:44:52.720
yeah you’re not making your money back
0:44:51.040,0:44:54.720
on a monthly subscription
0:44:52.720,0:44:55.920
right on a movie that’s got a hundred
0:44:54.720,0:44:58.000
million dollar budget
0:44:55.920,0:45:00.240
yeah you’re just not right so you have
0:44:58.000,0:45:01.680
to have some kind of direct income from
0:45:00.240,0:45:05.040
that movie
0:45:01.680,0:45:07.839
via ticket sales or pay-per-view sales
0:45:05.040,0:45:09.680
or something like that
0:45:07.839,0:45:11.200
and the fact that they haven’t come up
0:45:09.680,0:45:14.000
with anything yet
0:45:11.200,0:45:14.000
kind of makes me
0:45:14.640,0:45:18.720
you look at things like quibby for
0:45:16.560,0:45:19.960
instance right and it was a very
0:45:18.720,0:45:22.240
traditional
0:45:19.960,0:45:24.079
hollywood-centric idea that they wanted
0:45:22.240,0:45:27.119
to bring to something that was
0:45:24.079,0:45:29.599
revolutionary with the internet and it
0:45:27.119,0:45:30.960
failed miserably right and it makes me
0:45:29.599,0:45:34.560
think that these
0:45:30.960,0:45:37.599
these hollywood executives are
0:45:34.560,0:45:39.040
so far over their heads at this
0:45:37.599,0:45:41.440
in over their heads at this point in
0:45:39.040,0:45:42.160
time that they have no idea how they’re
0:45:41.440,0:45:44.720
going to make
0:45:42.160,0:45:45.520
money in this this new environment that
0:45:44.720,0:45:46.880
we’re in
0:45:45.520,0:45:48.800
because there’s still no talk of the
0:45:46.880,0:45:51.359
theaters reopening anything right soon
0:45:48.800,0:45:53.119
right and especially with the numbers
0:45:51.359,0:45:55.920
rising again
0:45:53.119,0:45:57.599
any of the theaters that have opened are
0:45:55.920,0:46:01.680
probably going to be the first thing
0:45:57.599,0:46:04.240
right to close so you know where
0:46:01.680,0:46:05.280
we were willing to pay the 30 to watch
0:46:04.240,0:46:07.839
mulan
0:46:05.280,0:46:09.359
and then within the following week they
0:46:07.839,0:46:10.160
were like oh but if you wait until
0:46:09.359,0:46:11.760
december
0:46:10.160,0:46:14.079
you don’t have to pay at all so then we
0:46:11.760,0:46:16.400
were like all right well
0:46:14.079,0:46:17.680
we’ll wait but if they had said the only
0:46:16.400,0:46:19.280
way to watch it
0:46:17.680,0:46:20.720
was to pay the thirty dollars you don’t
0:46:19.280,0:46:23.280
pay your thirty dollars this isn’t
0:46:20.720,0:46:24.720
coming to disney plus for a year
0:46:23.280,0:46:26.480
a lot more people would have been right
0:46:24.720,0:46:28.560
than we would right then we would have
0:46:26.480,0:46:31.520
said all right here’s my thirty dollars
0:46:28.560,0:46:32.319
because it’s again cheaper for all of us
0:46:31.520,0:46:35.359
it’s almost
0:46:32.319,0:46:37.119
like disney came up with a model right
0:46:35.359,0:46:38.560
and then decided to shoot themselves in
0:46:37.119,0:46:41.440
the foot with it yeah
0:46:38.560,0:46:43.920
and and honestly if you weren’t willing
0:46:41.440,0:46:45.359
to pay the 30 dollars
0:46:43.920,0:46:46.960
how were you gonna go see it in the
0:46:45.359,0:46:50.079
theater because i don’t know
0:46:46.960,0:46:51.200
any now granted if you’re a single
0:46:50.079,0:46:53.760
person
0:46:51.200,0:46:56.640
yes thirty dollars would have been steep
0:46:53.760,0:46:58.000
for one person i’d be more inclined to
0:46:56.640,0:46:59.520
spend thirty dollars to see it in the
0:46:58.000,0:47:02.480
theater than to see it at home
0:46:59.520,0:47:02.720
oh living room couch well yeah because
0:47:02.480,0:47:05.200
of
0:47:02.720,0:47:06.880
the the full surround sound and the
0:47:05.200,0:47:07.280
whole different experience that you’re
0:47:06.880,0:47:10.560
getting
0:47:07.280,0:47:13.760
oh absolutely but we also have a really
0:47:10.560,0:47:14.319
big tv and a pretty decent surround
0:47:13.760,0:47:16.319
sound
0:47:14.319,0:47:17.680
everybody does right and not everybody
0:47:16.319,0:47:19.119
does and there are plenty of people that
0:47:17.680,0:47:19.680
when they watch it they’re just watching
0:47:19.119,0:47:22.559
it on their
0:47:19.680,0:47:23.760
their laptop or their phone even so yeah
0:47:22.559,0:47:25.040
i could see why do i want to spend
0:47:23.760,0:47:26.880
thirty dollars when well
0:47:25.040,0:47:28.240
and thirty dollars might not be the
0:47:26.880,0:47:30.800
magic point right
0:47:28.240,0:47:32.559
fifteen and the other thing remember if
0:47:30.800,0:47:34.400
you paid that thirty dollars
0:47:32.559,0:47:35.680
you got to keep it right you can watch
0:47:34.400,0:47:37.440
it over and over again right
0:47:35.680,0:47:38.880
it was well you didn’t get to keep it it
0:47:37.440,0:47:42.079
was part of
0:47:38.880,0:47:45.839
your library right as long as you write
0:47:42.079,0:47:47.839
so maybe 15 and you get it for a 48 hour
0:47:45.839,0:47:51.520
period is a better model right
0:47:47.839,0:47:53.920
because and and you know back in the day
0:47:51.520,0:47:55.520
when you could do the on-demand stuff
0:47:53.920,0:47:56.720
through your cable company when they
0:47:55.520,0:47:59.040
would offer
0:47:56.720,0:48:00.880
you still can do that yeah it’s been
0:47:59.040,0:48:04.160
nobody does but nobody does but
0:48:00.880,0:48:05.440
you could still do it you know i’m
0:48:04.160,0:48:08.800
surprised they didn’t
0:48:05.440,0:48:12.240
capitalize more on that do you know
0:48:08.800,0:48:13.200
15 and i see i could see 15 is that
0:48:12.240,0:48:16.160
perfect
0:48:13.200,0:48:16.720
you know you get it for you know four
0:48:16.160,0:48:19.119
days
0:48:16.720,0:48:19.760
say you know sure not a week not two day
0:48:19.119,0:48:22.800
you get it
0:48:19.760,0:48:24.800
you know so i definitely think
0:48:22.800,0:48:26.240
you know to be able to watch wonder
0:48:24.800,0:48:28.720
woman 1984
0:48:26.240,0:48:30.880
we’re gonna spring for the 15 bucks get
0:48:28.720,0:48:32.079
hbo max for that month we’ll watch all
0:48:30.880,0:48:33.040
the stuff that we want to watch for that
0:48:32.079,0:48:34.800
month and then we’ll stop
0:48:33.040,0:48:36.640
right right kind of like what we did
0:48:34.800,0:48:38.400
with you know picard
0:48:36.640,0:48:39.920
we’re like all right we got the free
0:48:38.400,0:48:41.520
trial for that right we did get the free
0:48:39.920,0:48:43.680
trial but then you didn’t
0:48:41.520,0:48:45.280
cancel it in time so we didn’t end up i
0:48:43.680,0:48:47.200
didn’t pay you
0:48:45.280,0:48:48.319
but it wasn’t it wasn’t horrible it was
0:48:47.200,0:48:51.200
one month and it was
0:48:48.319,0:48:51.599
you know eight bucks or whatever so but
0:48:51.200,0:48:54.400
yeah
0:48:51.599,0:48:55.839
but it just it shocks me yeah that these
0:48:54.400,0:48:58.240
movie executives
0:48:55.839,0:48:58.960
are continuing to produce content but
0:48:58.240,0:49:01.040
have no
0:48:58.960,0:49:02.880
plan for how they’re gonna make a profit
0:49:01.040,0:49:06.640
off of it when they try to deliver it
0:49:02.880,0:49:08.800
or you do a tier of
0:49:06.640,0:49:09.760
okay if you’re only going to watch it
0:49:08.800,0:49:12.800
you know
0:49:09.760,0:49:16.319
so for ten dollars you get it for
0:49:12.800,0:49:17.040
24 hours for 30 dollars you get it for a
0:49:16.319,0:49:18.640
week
0:49:17.040,0:49:20.480
right you know so if you wanted to you
0:49:18.640,0:49:21.280
know yeah i guess you could do that but
0:49:20.480,0:49:23.520
like
0:49:21.280,0:49:24.960
you know if i if i spend four fifteen
0:49:23.520,0:49:26.559
dollars and i get it for four days if i
0:49:24.960,0:49:28.240
need to watch it again i’ll spend those
0:49:26.559,0:49:30.000
15 dollars and get another four days for
0:49:28.240,0:49:31.119
it right but i’m just saying if you kind
0:49:30.000,0:49:33.200
of tear it down
0:49:31.119,0:49:34.480
versus you know for like the the person
0:49:33.200,0:49:36.880
who you know
0:49:34.480,0:49:38.880
oh well i’m only one person if i go to
0:49:36.880,0:49:41.839
the theater i’m gonna watch it for less
0:49:38.880,0:49:43.280
than you know how many times does a
0:49:41.839,0:49:44.640
single person need to watch the same
0:49:43.280,0:49:46.640
movie
0:49:44.640,0:49:47.680
how many times did certain people go to
0:49:46.640,0:49:50.000
see
0:49:47.680,0:49:52.800
star wars and i have no idea what you’re
0:49:50.000,0:49:52.800
talking about exactly
0:49:52.960,0:49:56.720
so we’ll see you know obviously again
0:49:55.119,0:50:00.559
like you said
0:49:56.720,0:50:02.559
you think by now they’d have a plan in
0:50:00.559,0:50:04.000
in place as to how they’re going to deal
0:50:02.559,0:50:06.000
with all these
0:50:04.000,0:50:09.040
movies right that you know they’re
0:50:06.000,0:50:11.520
starting to kind of backlog really
0:50:09.040,0:50:13.280
so and we’ll see how it works out yeah
0:50:11.520,0:50:17.119
we’ll see how it works out
0:50:13.280,0:50:19.920
so apple tried to pull a lucy on us
0:50:17.119,0:50:21.119
and pull the football out right where do
0:50:19.920,0:50:24.079
we stand now with that
0:50:21.119,0:50:24.640
yeah so obviously uh i don’t think we
0:50:24.079,0:50:28.079
actually
0:50:24.640,0:50:29.359
we talked about it but when um halloween
0:50:28.079,0:50:32.079
came around
0:50:29.359,0:50:33.839
you know some of those staple television
0:50:32.079,0:50:35.359
shows that always come out you know
0:50:33.839,0:50:39.119
certain times a year
0:50:35.359,0:50:41.920
the great pumpkin wasn’t on regular tv
0:50:39.119,0:50:44.079
uh apple plus got the rights to it and
0:50:41.920,0:50:46.960
the only way you could see it was if you
0:50:44.079,0:50:47.839
actually had apple plus which how many
0:50:46.960,0:50:49.760
people
0:50:47.839,0:50:50.960
raise your hand if you have apple plus i
0:50:49.760,0:50:52.160
think you do have it you probably don’t
0:50:50.960,0:50:52.880
know because you got it for free when
0:50:52.160,0:50:54.880
you bought something
0:50:52.880,0:50:56.319
right so you know there’s not that many
0:50:54.880,0:50:58.720
people out there that
0:50:56.319,0:51:00.240
um you know that that subscribe to it
0:50:58.720,0:51:02.400
but i’m sure there are some
0:51:00.240,0:51:04.480
it’s obviously not up there in in the
0:51:02.400,0:51:07.599
top you know the top list of
0:51:04.480,0:51:11.599
of streaming services but now it seems
0:51:07.599,0:51:13.359
that uh charlie brown is coming back to
0:51:11.599,0:51:17.040
broadcast television
0:51:13.359,0:51:19.119
so pbs pbs kids and apple announced
0:51:17.040,0:51:20.880
wednesday that snoopy and the gang will
0:51:19.119,0:51:24.160
be coming to television
0:51:20.880,0:51:25.040
for the holidays after all through apple
0:51:24.160,0:51:27.040
tv
0:51:25.040,0:51:28.559
though apple tv has the rights to the
0:51:27.040,0:51:32.160
peanuts contact
0:51:28.559,0:51:35.200
content a new deal with pbs
0:51:32.160,0:51:36.720
will enable the broadcaster to air a
0:51:35.200,0:51:39.680
charlie brown thanksgiving
0:51:36.720,0:51:41.760
and a charlie brown christmas this year
0:51:39.680,0:51:44.960
the beloved specials will actually
0:51:41.760,0:51:48.319
air ad-free on november 22nd
0:51:44.960,0:51:51.599
and december 13th respectively
0:51:48.319,0:51:53.599
and again this comes after you know
0:51:51.599,0:51:56.000
there was a whole lot of controversy
0:51:53.599,0:51:57.599
with you know the great pumpkin not
0:51:56.000,0:52:01.119
being anywhere to be found
0:51:57.599,0:52:04.079
unless you had apple tv so again
0:52:01.119,0:52:05.119
nice to see um you know that that it’s
0:52:04.079,0:52:07.280
going to be available
0:52:05.119,0:52:08.640
so a charlie brown thanksgiving will be
0:52:07.280,0:52:12.240
available starting
0:52:08.640,0:52:16.319
november 18th and to watch free
0:52:12.240,0:52:18.720
um from november 25th to the 27th
0:52:16.319,0:52:19.599
and then a charlie brown christmas will
0:52:18.720,0:52:23.040
be available
0:52:19.599,0:52:25.359
on december 4th on apple plus
0:52:23.040,0:52:26.640
and then will be able to be streamed for
0:52:25.359,0:52:30.079
free december
0:52:26.640,0:52:33.440
11th 12th and 13th so so this is
0:52:30.079,0:52:35.119
this is clear evidence that pressure on
0:52:33.440,0:52:38.400
a major corporation
0:52:35.119,0:52:39.680
actually can have some effect yeah a lot
0:52:38.400,0:52:42.240
of people were very
0:52:39.680,0:52:42.960
upset that you would take something that
0:52:42.240,0:52:46.240
has been
0:52:42.960,0:52:48.240
on public television for 40 years now 40
0:52:46.240,0:52:50.800
plus years i think even more than that
0:52:48.240,0:52:51.520
and you’re gonna and it’s funny because
0:52:50.800,0:52:54.160
the same
0:52:51.520,0:52:55.200
same kind of concerns came up when hbo
0:52:54.160,0:52:57.040
acquired
0:52:55.200,0:52:58.720
the rights to sesame street as well
0:52:57.040,0:53:00.559
right yeah
0:52:58.720,0:53:02.480
and they wound up coming to terms where
0:53:00.559,0:53:04.000
all the new stuff came out on hbo and
0:53:02.480,0:53:04.720
then a couple months later it would come
0:53:04.000,0:53:07.359
out on
0:53:04.720,0:53:08.640
right on regular pbs uh and and that
0:53:07.359,0:53:12.079
deal worked because
0:53:08.640,0:53:14.480
it saved sesame street because sesame
0:53:12.079,0:53:18.480
street’s funding had been cut
0:53:14.480,0:53:18.480
i don’t know what the deal was with
0:53:19.040,0:53:22.480
the the peanuts franchise being having
0:53:21.760,0:53:26.160
their rights
0:53:22.480,0:53:28.960
sold out to apple for a period of time
0:53:26.160,0:53:32.079
or not but uh it’s good to see that
0:53:28.960,0:53:32.640
a compromise was reached so we can all
0:53:32.079,0:53:34.559
have our
0:53:32.640,0:53:36.400
not that i was never a big fan of
0:53:34.559,0:53:38.800
charlie brown and the peanuts myself
0:53:36.400,0:53:39.920
right but uh you know i remember
0:53:38.800,0:53:43.520
watching it as a kid
0:53:39.920,0:53:44.880
oh absolutely be unfortunate if today’s
0:53:43.520,0:53:46.480
children couldn’t watch it because
0:53:44.880,0:53:48.240
there’s a lot of lessons we learned from
0:53:46.480,0:53:49.680
it yep
0:53:48.240,0:53:51.760
so that was all we had for our
0:53:49.680,0:53:52.800
entertainment news figure we’d end on a
0:53:51.760,0:53:54.960
high note there
0:53:52.800,0:53:58.400
and uh we’ll be right back with our
0:53:54.960,0:53:58.400
insightful picks of the week
0:53:58.410,0:54:05.599
[Applause]
0:54:02.400,0:54:06.640
go for your insightful pick so my
0:54:05.599,0:54:09.839
insightful pick
0:54:06.640,0:54:12.160
is a show that is currently airing on
0:54:09.839,0:54:15.200
disney plus but actually
0:54:12.160,0:54:17.839
started out elsewhere uh it is called
0:54:15.200,0:54:18.640
brain games and it is on like i said
0:54:17.839,0:54:22.720
disney plus
0:54:18.640,0:54:26.240
it is under the national uh geographic
0:54:22.720,0:54:28.880
uh header with disney plus
0:54:26.240,0:54:31.280
so brain games is an american popular
0:54:28.880,0:54:33.920
science television series that explores
0:54:31.280,0:54:35.040
cognitive science by focusing on
0:54:33.920,0:54:37.280
illusions
0:54:35.040,0:54:38.480
psychological experiments and
0:54:37.280,0:54:41.040
counter-intuitive
0:54:38.480,0:54:44.319
theory uh thinking the series actually
0:54:41.040,0:54:47.680
debuted on national geographic in 2011
0:54:44.319,0:54:51.280
just as a special and then it returned
0:54:47.680,0:54:54.240
as an original series in 2013
0:54:51.280,0:54:55.680
and set a record of the highest
0:54:54.240,0:54:58.240
premiering rating
0:54:55.680,0:54:59.760
for any national geographic original
0:54:58.240,0:55:02.880
series
0:54:59.760,0:55:03.760
and then they went on to do a seventh
0:55:02.880,0:55:08.480
season or
0:55:03.760,0:55:11.680
continue doing seasons up until 2016.
0:55:08.480,0:55:15.119
well then they kind of revamped the show
0:55:11.680,0:55:18.240
and did a few more seasons
0:55:15.119,0:55:20.240
so actually in december of 2019 it was
0:55:18.240,0:55:22.720
announced that a new format
0:55:20.240,0:55:25.280
of the show uh would be done and it
0:55:22.720,0:55:28.559
would actually be hosted by keegan mike
0:55:25.280,0:55:32.319
michael k and that actually started
0:55:28.559,0:55:36.319
um premiering in january of this year
0:55:32.319,0:55:38.640
um maddie and i kind of happened upon it
0:55:36.319,0:55:39.520
i think i had watched a fir a couple of
0:55:38.640,0:55:41.839
the episodes
0:55:39.520,0:55:43.920
just on myself so the first couple of
0:55:41.839,0:55:47.200
seasons the episodes were
0:55:43.920,0:55:49.119
um an hour long and then
0:55:47.200,0:55:50.319
with the other seasons they became a
0:55:49.119,0:55:52.960
half hour long so
0:55:50.319,0:55:54.640
when maddie and i were doing our our tv
0:55:52.960,0:55:57.040
night our movie nights
0:55:54.640,0:55:57.839
um we kind of ran out of disney movies
0:55:57.040,0:55:59.760
to watch
0:55:57.839,0:56:01.440
so i was like all right let’s see if she
0:55:59.760,0:56:04.880
you know she’s into this
0:56:01.440,0:56:06.480
um and she actually you know really is
0:56:04.880,0:56:08.079
because again they do all these little
0:56:06.480,0:56:11.760
mind tricks and and
0:56:08.079,0:56:14.240
things and teasers um but what’s neat is
0:56:11.760,0:56:17.280
after they do all of these different
0:56:14.240,0:56:20.559
things they explain how it worked how
0:56:17.280,0:56:22.799
they got you to to do these brain
0:56:20.559,0:56:23.680
teasers on you what what the reasoning
0:56:22.799,0:56:26.559
was
0:56:23.680,0:56:28.480
behind it so you know she’s at that age
0:56:26.559,0:56:29.040
where it makes sense to her you know i
0:56:28.480,0:56:31.680
think for
0:56:29.040,0:56:32.720
younger kids it you know they might not
0:56:31.680,0:56:35.119
get it but i think
0:56:32.720,0:56:37.440
you know the the older kids you know
0:56:35.119,0:56:40.640
have an appreciation for it
0:56:37.440,0:56:41.839
um and we’re only on you know season
0:56:40.640,0:56:44.079
three and i think
0:56:41.839,0:56:45.440
each you know season has like 20
0:56:44.079,0:56:46.960
episodes so we’re
0:56:45.440,0:56:48.559
you know we haven’t even gotten to the
0:56:46.960,0:56:50.720
newer format
0:56:48.559,0:56:52.559
stuff we’re still on the the older stuff
0:56:50.720,0:56:56.240
but you know really kind of cool and
0:56:52.559,0:56:59.839
makes you think hmm okay all right
0:56:56.240,0:56:59.839
cool pick thank you
0:57:01.010,0:57:06.240
[Applause]
0:57:02.880,0:57:08.000
so my pick this week is a documentary
0:57:06.240,0:57:09.520
but kind of a non-traditional
0:57:08.000,0:57:11.520
documentary
0:57:09.520,0:57:12.960
i happen to stumble upon this one trying
0:57:11.520,0:57:15.760
to find something to watch on
0:57:12.960,0:57:17.280
amazon prime and this goes back a ways
0:57:15.760,0:57:20.960
this was actually uh
0:57:17.280,0:57:23.920
produced in 2010 and it’s called with
0:57:20.960,0:57:26.559
great power the stan lee story
0:57:23.920,0:57:28.480
an epics original production on the life
0:57:26.559,0:57:30.400
and times of legendary comic book
0:57:28.480,0:57:33.359
creator stan lee
0:57:30.400,0:57:34.319
featuring nick cage kirsten dunst and
0:57:33.359,0:57:36.480
others
0:57:34.319,0:57:38.839
this feature-length documentary looks at
0:57:36.480,0:57:41.839
some of the more than 200 comic book
0:57:38.839,0:57:43.440
characters stan lee is the co-creator of
0:57:41.839,0:57:47.119
including spider-man
0:57:43.440,0:57:50.880
hulk the x-men the fantastic four
0:57:47.119,0:57:51.839
iron man and more sean astin toby
0:57:50.880,0:57:54.640
maguire
0:57:51.839,0:57:56.480
roger corman frank miller and others
0:57:54.640,0:57:57.200
discussed the life and extraordinary
0:57:56.480,0:58:00.319
career
0:57:57.200,0:58:02.400
of marvel comics legend stanley and the
0:58:00.319,0:58:04.559
army of characters that originated from
0:58:02.400,0:58:06.319
his mind that today
0:58:04.559,0:58:09.520
can be found in comic books movie
0:58:06.319,0:58:10.559
screens and in retail stores around the
0:58:09.520,0:58:12.559
world
0:58:10.559,0:58:14.880
what i thought was was really
0:58:12.559,0:58:17.200
interesting was this wasn’t
0:58:14.880,0:58:19.440
just a bunch of people talking about
0:58:17.200,0:58:21.200
stanley and how great he was
0:58:19.440,0:58:23.200
there were extensive interviews with
0:58:21.200,0:58:25.760
stan lee here that were done
0:58:23.200,0:58:27.119
obviously before he uh passed away a few
0:58:25.760,0:58:31.440
years ago
0:58:27.119,0:58:34.000
but they were done in very intimate ways
0:58:31.440,0:58:35.280
like he you go into stan lee’s house in
0:58:34.000,0:58:38.559
california
0:58:35.280,0:58:41.359
he takes you into a study where he
0:58:38.559,0:58:42.240
does all this creating you know you see
0:58:41.359,0:58:44.160
the computer
0:58:42.240,0:58:45.359
that he writes everything on and you
0:58:44.160,0:58:46.880
know the one thing i mentioned to you
0:58:45.359,0:58:50.000
that was kind of funny
0:58:46.880,0:58:50.640
is they show him typing away and you
0:58:50.000,0:58:52.880
know
0:58:50.640,0:58:54.720
70 years into his career he’s still
0:58:52.880,0:58:55.520
typing with two fingers he never learned
0:58:54.720,0:58:57.920
how to type
0:58:55.520,0:58:58.720
even as prolific a writer as he was he
0:58:57.920,0:59:02.880
never learned
0:58:58.720,0:59:05.839
how to touch type but you meet his wife
0:59:02.880,0:59:08.319
okay you you learn how he met his wife
0:59:05.839,0:59:11.280
and some of the similarities between
0:59:08.319,0:59:13.599
how he met his wife and you know captain
0:59:11.280,0:59:15.680
america and peggy carter from
0:59:13.599,0:59:17.280
the first avenger you see some of the
0:59:15.680,0:59:20.319
parallels there
0:59:17.280,0:59:21.280
and it’s a very interesting side of
0:59:20.319,0:59:23.119
stanley that
0:59:21.280,0:59:24.319
i don’t think i’ve ever seen in any
0:59:23.119,0:59:27.280
other documentary
0:59:24.319,0:59:28.160
and it was very very well done very
0:59:27.280,0:59:32.079
touching
0:59:28.160,0:59:35.200
uh there’s a moment in there where uh
0:59:32.079,0:59:36.000
stanley’s wife is reading a valentine’s
0:59:35.200,0:59:38.960
day card
0:59:36.000,0:59:40.240
okay and he wrote the valentine’s day
0:59:38.960,0:59:43.760
card himself
0:59:40.240,0:59:45.119
and it was the typical quirky creative
0:59:43.760,0:59:48.559
but touching way that
0:59:45.119,0:59:50.079
that stan has of writing and at one
0:59:48.559,0:59:50.400
point in time she’s reading through and
0:59:50.079,0:59:53.119
she
0:59:50.400,0:59:54.480
she breaks down oh in the middle of
0:59:53.119,0:59:57.920
reading through it and it’s
0:59:54.480,1:00:00.160
it’s it’s touching to see
0:59:57.920,1:00:01.839
that they have they they’re married for
1:00:00.160,1:00:05.440
for so many years
1:00:01.839,1:00:08.160
they were married for over 60 years
1:00:05.440,1:00:08.960
and the fact that they still love each
1:00:08.160,1:00:11.119
other
1:00:08.960,1:00:12.799
they drive each other crazy they admit
1:00:11.119,1:00:15.280
it you know but they
1:00:12.799,1:00:16.880
they feed off of each other’s energy and
1:00:15.280,1:00:18.559
it’s it was just
1:00:16.880,1:00:20.160
it was a different kind of document it
1:00:18.559,1:00:22.640
was very similar to the
1:00:20.160,1:00:24.079
the adam west documentary okay but it
1:00:22.640,1:00:27.119
was done in a much more
1:00:24.079,1:00:28.319
uh intimate way to really get to know
1:00:27.119,1:00:30.480
stan so
1:00:28.319,1:00:32.160
i really recommend that it is 10 years
1:00:30.480,1:00:33.440
old at this point in time but it still
1:00:32.160,1:00:36.960
holds itself pretty
1:00:33.440,1:00:40.240
pretty well uh so with great power
1:00:36.960,1:00:42.810
the stanley story on amazon prime
1:00:40.240,1:00:46.720
and we’ll be right back
1:00:42.810,1:00:49.200
[Applause]
1:00:46.720,1:00:50.480
so i think that was all we had this week
1:00:49.200,1:00:50.960
did you have any afterthoughts you
1:00:50.480,1:00:54.559
wanted to
1:00:50.960,1:00:54.960
talk about no i think i did i do want to
1:00:54.559,1:00:58.000
invite
1:00:54.960,1:00:59.440
folks to uh check out our long-form
1:00:58.000,1:01:00.559
articles that are getting stale now
1:00:59.440,1:01:01.520
because they haven’t been publishing
1:01:00.559,1:01:03.040
it’s gonna say
1:01:01.520,1:01:05.200
when was the last time you did any of
1:01:03.040,1:01:06.160
those they’re available on medium at
1:01:05.200,1:01:08.640
medium.com
1:01:06.160,1:01:10.240
maybe next year insights into things or
1:01:08.640,1:01:12.160
during the holidays when
1:01:10.240,1:01:13.359
well you know when when the history
1:01:12.160,1:01:15.680
podcast
1:01:13.359,1:01:17.040
starts up i’ll have plenty of material
1:01:15.680,1:01:18.160
that i can publish on that because all
1:01:17.040,1:01:21.359
that stuff is already
1:01:18.160,1:01:23.599
written right right so hopefully spoiler
1:01:21.359,1:01:24.799
hopefully after the new year we’ll have
1:01:23.599,1:01:26.880
the new podcast
1:01:24.799,1:01:28.319
there you go all the research is done on
1:01:26.880,1:01:30.079
it
1:01:28.319,1:01:31.839
the scripts are written they just need
1:01:30.079,1:01:34.400
to be proofread and then
1:01:31.839,1:01:36.000
we’ll start production on it and we’ll
1:01:34.400,1:01:39.119
have something good for folks
1:01:36.000,1:01:42.400
okay in the meantime you can listen to
