- California Gov. Says He’s in ‘No Hurry’ to Reopen Disneyland and Other Amusement Parks
- https://people.com/travel/california-gov-no-hurry-reopen-disneyland/
- https://bit.ly/2IaD8xu
- Disneyland and other California theme parks are likely not opening anytime soon amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, according to Governor Gavin Newsom.
- In a news conference on Wednesday, Newsom, 52, said that while “there are disagreements” about reopening California’s theme parks — including Disneyland, Universal Studios Hollywood, Knott’s Berry Farm and Six Flags Magic Mountain — all of which have been closed since March, state officials are “going to let science and data make that determination.”
- “I understand the friction, the frustration that many business leaders have, they want to move forward to reopen, but we are going to be led by a health-first framework and we’re going to be stubborn about it,” the governor said. “That’s our commitment, that’s our resolve. While we feel there is no hurry in putting out guidelines, we continue to work with the industry.”
- Newsom added: “We don’t anticipate in the immediate term any of these larger theme parks opening until we see more stability in terms of the data.”
- Disneyland Resort and Disney California Adventure Park in Anaheim were slated to reopen in July, but were delayed when state and local governments did not grant approval in time for them to make necessary preparations, park officials said at the time. Downtown Disney shops and restaurants were able to reopen earlier this summer with outdoor seating only and strict safety precautions in place.
- Disney’s parks in Orlando, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Paris have all reopened.
- Last month, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro called on California officials to allow the parks in Anaheim to reopen.
- ″To our California government officials, particularly at the state level, I encourage you to treat theme parks like you would other sectors and help us reopen,” D’Amaro said during a webcast, Deadline reported. ″We need guidelines that are fair and equitable so we can better understand our future and chart a path toward reopening.”
- During the call, D’Amaro seemed to warn of the looming layoffs.
- ″The longer we wait, the more devastating the impact will be to the Orange County and Anaheim communities and to the tens of thousands of people who rely on us for employment,″ he said, according to Deadline’s report. ″With the right guidelines and our years of operations experience, I am confident that we can restart and get people back to work.″
- D’Amaro later confirmed the layoffs in a statement obtained by PEOPLE on Sept. 29. According to D’Amaro, about 28,000 U.S. employees — of which 67 percent are part-time — will be affected.
- Disney bloggers raise over $40,000 for food bank to help park employees in need
- https://www.cnn.com/2020/10/04/us/disney-bloggers-food-bank-fundraiser-trnd/index.html
- https://cnn.it/2GRCgx9
- As news of mass layoffs were happening at their favorite theme park, Disney bloggers from Florida tapped into their online audience to raise over $40,000 for their local food bank.
- Sarah and Tom Bricker have been offering advice since 2011 about all things Disney on their blog, DisneyTouristBlog.com, according to the website.
- When the Central Florida couple heard that Disney would be laying off thousands of employees, they created a virtual fundraising drive for Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, which has been helping to feed “miles long lines” of Floridians affected by the pandemic, the couple said on their blog.
- “Whether you live in Central Florida or not, we’re all part of the same community as Walt Disney World fans,” the Brickers said on their blog after donating $500 to the cause themselves. “Please join us in helping to give back to those who have made so much magic for us all over the years.”
- The food bank has doubled its daily distribution during pandemic relief efforts from 150,000 to 300,000 meals a day due to the heightened, sustained need, according to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida Spokeswoman Erika Spence.
- “They started the (fundraising) page as a way for their blog community to support local tourism workers who have been economically impacted by recent theme park layoffs, reduced attendance and other factors affecting our local workforce,” Spence told CNN.
- The couple’s initial goal was to raise $2,000, but they quickly surpassed that figure.
- “They raised the first $25,000 within 24 hours and as of this morning have raised over $37,000,” Spence told CNN. “Each dollar raised can provide four meals to families in need.”
- The Brickers told CNN that they have not asked Second Harvest to earmark these funds specifically for employees of area theme parks, because all of Central Florida has been affected, with local tourism taking a disproportionate hit.
- “We wouldn’t want to exclude anyone,” Tom Bricker said.
- After Disney closed its gates due to coronavirus in March, park officials announced the excess food from the park would be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank in Orange County, CNN has reported.
- “With the scale of these layoffs and the unemployment numbers in Central Florida, even more help is still urgently needed in our community,” the Brickers said in a blog update. They also encouraged other Disney fans on the West Coast to consider donating to Second Harvest Food Bank in Orange County that serves California.
- As for raising over $40,000 in donations by Sunday evening, the couple said they didn’t even consider that a possibility.
- “We were definitely humbled and heartened to see the generous support the people of the internet,” Sarah Bricker said. “But ultimately, you know, we realized that this is just a really small thing that we started and doesn’t compensate for the overall hardship that the cast members are experiencing.”
- Disney’s next Pixar movie will skip theaters for Disney Plus this December
- https://www.theverge.com/2020/10/8/21508491/pixar-soul-disney-plus-release-date-christmas-holidays-streaming-theaters?fbclid=IwAR24AL73V4-CIFGBD7TzxkrM0ATick2ylD_-oGoo49WuHrkvbQbrvrrGJjg

- Disney will premiere its next Pixar film, Soul, on Disney Plus this Christmas instead of releasing it theatrically in countries where Disney Plus is available. The film was originally scheduled to be released in theaters in November, but the coronavirus has disrupted theaters — making Disney Plus a safer bet.
- Over the last six months, Disney has tried to find ways to bring its movies to audiences while bypassing traditional theatrical releases. Disney Plus has become a key distribution method for the the company as theaters remain closed. Soul is the latest film that Disney has moved from its theatrical slate to Disney Plus, following Artemis Fowl, Hamilton, and Mulan, which debuted as a Premier Access title for an additional $30. Soul will not be a Premier title, meaning that it will be free to all Disney Plus subscribers.
- Like many other studios, Disney is trying to figure out how best to treat its slate of films that need to be released. The studio recently pushed back Marvel Studios’ Black Widow to 2021. Part of the issue is that many theaters in key markets like New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco remain closed, and those that are open are working under heavy restrictions. Plus, studios can’t predict consumer behavior. Warner Bros. released Christopher Nolan’s Tenet globally, and while it performed decently overseas, it hasn’t seen stellar results in the United States.
- Fortunately for Disney, one business that is continuing to grow is Disney Plus. The streaming service has more than 60 million subscribers worldwide — a number that Disney wasn’t expecting to see until approximately 2024. When Disney brought Hamilton to its streaming service, the company saw a number of new signups, CEO Bob Chapek told staff in an all hands meeting this past summer.
- Soul follows a middle-school music teacher named Joe (voiced by Jamie Foxx) who finds himself in a metaphysical world where new souls are created. Stuck in this new and strange place, Joe teams up with one soul (voiced by Tina Fey) to try and explain why life is so wonderful.
- Clearly, Disney is hoping that with families stuck at home, and people needing something to watch, Soul will help boost Disney Plus numbers and keep people watching.

- STAR WARS PINBALL READIES TO CHANGE THE GAME AT HOME
- https://www.starwars.com/news/star-wars-pinball-home
- https://bit.ly/3dj8tte
- Zen Studios has been delivering digital pinball games set in the Star Wars galaxy since 2013. Based on the iconic films, animated series, characters, and even specific battles, they have allowed fans to enjoy their favorite sci-fi saga in a fresh way, across nearly 20 different themed tables.
- The games have appeared on every imaginable platform, from smartphones and PCs to all home consoles in between. But as Zen’s chief operating officer Mel Kirk explains, the experiences have changed and evolved with each new release. “As new devices and new technology have been introduced, we’ve been able to optimize and add things that make these games feel alive again for the first time, for new audiences.”
- Just last year, the studio ported all 19 entries — in one amazing package — to the Nintendo Switch, leveraging many of the hardware’s innovative features in the process. Immersion-ratcheting HD rumble and the ability to orient the Switch’s screen vertically were among the welcome tweaks that injected additional layers of authenticity.
- While each version of these games has seen the franchise evolve the user experience, though, Star Wars Pinball‘s next iteration is poised to continue that trend. Partnering with Tastemakers, LLC. — the folks behind the awesome Arcade1Up Star Wars Home Arcade cabinet — Zen is coming full circle, putting their Star Wars Pinball video games in a real-world, consumer-aimed pinball machine: Arcade1Up Star Wars Virtual Pinball.
- Tastemakers senior VP of licensing and business development, John Diamonon, describes the promising project simply, as a, “physical pinball table that features digital software.” Much like he and his team’s line of popular arcade cabinets, the ¾ scale Arcade1Up Star Wars Virtual Pinball machine will be an accessible option, letting fans enjoy an authentic arcade experience in the comfort of their homes.
- But as Diamonon explains, this new venture opens up even more opportunities to move the interactive entertainment medium forward. “Our number one focus is to make a really authentic experience, with the best software, that allows you to feel immersed in the games you’re playing. But we want to take it one step further. We want to take Zen’s software and bring it to life…so when an AT-ST walks across the screen, you’ll feel the haptic feedback on the table itself.”
- Coupled with built-in accelerometers, that haptic feedback technology will play a critical role in delivering an arcade-accurate experience both Star Wars enthusiasts and pinball wizards will appreciate. Players will feel the effects of hammering on the flippers, pulling the plunger, and nudging and tilting the machine.
- But this cool tech is also being used to bring Zen’s virtual pinball to life like never before. “We’re really optimizing the games with the hardware. We’re doing custom mapping, working on the controls, making sure the buttons feel right, and that the response on the accelerometers feels right. It’s going to feel like a brand-new game.,” shares an enthusiastic Kirk.
- For Star Wars stalwarts, this means not only seeing, but feeling many of the slick effects that unfold as they chase those high scores. Diamonon’s aforementioned trampling AT-ST only scratches the surface of how these games’ legendary heroes and villains, soaring starships, stomping creatures, and epic action scenes will spring to life.
- “These are video games, so we embrace that,” explains Kirk. “We have 3D animated characters — perfect likenesses of everyone from Boba Fett and Darth Vader to Han Solo and Rey; we have TIE fighters and the Millennium Falcon — even the Slave I — flying around the table. You’re going to have representations of all these things happening in a way that would not be possible in a real-world machine, so they feel alive.”
- While experiencing the tactile feedback of a tauntaun trotting across the table will no doubt be a fan-pleasing highlight, Tastemakers director of marketing and communications David McIntosh says the machine will also provide a new platform to unspool these games’ evolving tales. “As you progress, they begin to tell a story. Once you get to those high scores, you really see stuff you wouldn’t normally see when starting out. It really is evolving as you progress, a unique factor you wouldn’t get on a traditional pinball table.”
- Whether you come for the haptic feedback-fueled effects or the chance to relive Star Wars’ epic storytelling in a fresh way, you’ll also be scoring a cool collectible. Constructed of wood and metal, the just-under five-foot machine will feature dual speakers, eight-inch LCD animated score screen, adjustable feet, and an impressive, recessed 24-inch HD LCD play-field.
- Of course, the real draw for fans and collectors alike is the amazing art adorning the outside of the hardware. The back-glass image features dark side characters — Darth Vader, Darth Maul, and Kylo Ren — on the right, countered by Rey, Yoda, and Luke on the left. The bad guys get a bit more love, though, with an especially menacing Emperor Palpatine positioned in the image’s center. Fantastic artwork stretches along each side of the machine, as well, giving fan-favorite characters from the original and new trilogies their due.
- Diamonon, who sees this exciting project as, “a natural extension” to their line of Arcade1Up home products, wasn’t ready to share many more deep-diving details on the table just yet, but he did offer this tease: “We’re definitely going to have 10 tables at launch, with the aim to have a good variety between the animated shows and theatrical films.”
- When you go to their website, they have a Marvel version showing but no other info regarding pricing or a release date…
- Star Wars: The High Republic Will Utterly Redefine The Force
- https://screenrant.com/star-wars-high-republic-redefine-force/
- https://bit.ly/3nzPlMp
- The upcoming Star Wars transmedia initiative, “The High Republic,” will redefine our understanding of the Force. Star Wars is a unique franchise, a blend of science-fiction and fantasy unlike anything else. Its central heroes are not just starfighter pilots, but they are also Jedi Knights, beings who are able to wield the Force.
- The most basic definition of the Force was given in the very Star Wars movie, all the way back in 1977. “The Force is what gives a Jedi his power,” Obi-Wan Kenobi told Luke Skywalker. “It’s an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.” For decades, every Star Wars film and tie-in that explores the Force has really expanded upon the definition. But it seems the story of the High Republic will explore how different people perceive the Force differently, completely redefining our understanding of the phenomenon.
- Speaking at the High Republic panel at New York Comic Con 2020, author Charles Soule explained the traditional definition is actually based on Yoda’s perception of the Force. Other Jedi perceive the Force in different ways, and relate to the Force in different ways. One of the central characters in Soule’s novel Light of the Jedi is Avar Kriss, who experiences the Force as music. “She calls it the Song of the Force,” Soule explained. “And so, for her, all the different Jedi have their own tones and instruments, and it all comes together into this great symphony of dissonance and assonance, and all these beautiful things that she is able to perceive.” All the other characters have their distinctive relationships with the Force as well; Soule also points to the example of the Wookiee Padawan Burryaga Agaburry, who sees the Force as a great forest, with himself as one leaf of a great tree.
- The High Republic novels and comics are set 200 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Presumably, all these different perspectives on the Force were lost over time as Yoda became too dominant, the Grand Master who counseled others and the teacher who taught all the Padawans how to understand the Force. The prequel trilogy presented the Jedi as diminished, a shadow of their former greatness, but the story of the High Republic looks set to reveal the extent to which that was the case. The Jedi had lost their sense of individuality within the Force, attempting to conform their own relationship with it to the pattern set by Yoda. Little wonder so many of them chafed under it.
- When Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, they wiped the slate clean and started again with the canon. Now, though, every book, film, and TV series is equally canon, meaning this redefinition of the Force is as binding upon the Star Wars franchise as if it happened on the big screen itself. The “High Republic” initiative is possibly the most important event since the launch of the sequel trilogy, and certainly the most exciting. It is bold and confident, daring to redefine the Force, the concept that lies at the heart of Star Wars. It’s going to be thrilling to get a fresh glimpse into the infinite mystery that is the Force.

- Valerie Bertinelli is looking back on memories with her late ex-husband Eddie Van Halen, who died on Tuesday following a cancer battle.
- The actress, 60, shared several throwback photos from her time with the iconic guitarist, including a snapshot from the night they met in 1980.
- One photo shows Bertinelli putting her arm over Van Halen’s shoulder in Shreveport, Lousiana, and in another, she hugs the rocker on Christmas in 1980.
- A black-and-white photo taken at The Forum in Los Angeles in 1981 shows the couple smiling together on a couch, and in a snapshot from the Central Park carousel in 1993, the duo smile with young son Wolfgang, who is now 29.
- On Tuesday, Bertinelli shared a heartfelt tribute to Van Halen, saying that her “life changed forever” when they met.
- “40 years ago my life changed forever when I met you,” the actress wrote on Twitter, also sharing an old family photo. “You gave me the one true light in my life, our son, Wolfgang.”
- “Through all your challenging treatments for lung cancer, you kept your gorgeous spirit and that impish grin,” Bertinelli continued. “I’m so grateful Wolfie and I were able to hold you in your last moments. I will see you in our next life my love.”
- Bertinelli and Eddie tied the knot in 1981 and were married for more than 20 years before separating in 2001 and getting divorced in 2007. They were on good terms at the time of his death and Eddie had attended her wedding to her current husband Tom Vitale.
- Wolfgang first broke the news on Tuesday that Van Halen had died.
- “I can’t believe I’m having to write this, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning,” he wrote on Twitter. “He was the best father I could ask for. Every moment I’ve shared with him on and off stage was a gift.”
- “My heart is broken and I don’t think I’ll ever recover from this loss,” he added. “I love you so much, Pop.”
- A source close to Van Halen told PEOPLE that the guitarist had a rapid decline in health over the days leading to his death and that cancer had “spread to all his organs.”
- Bertinelli, Wolf, and his current wife Janie Liszewski were all at the hospital with Van Halen at the time of his death.+
- Broadway to remain closed till at least May 2021
- https://www.onstageblog.com/editorials/2020/10/8/broadway-to-remain-closed-till-at-least-may-2021?fbclid=IwAR3XadnrLSYjMUOK3_zNkSyO1KkkIjj4abVx98WNJ7Uve9K16LVWbp4ps4A
- https://bit.ly/34O1BQO
- According to sources, the Broadway League will officially announce tomorrow that shows will remain closed until at least May 30th, 2021. This means Broadway shows will remain dark for more than a year after they shut down.
- This follows the news that The Metropolitan Opera announced that it will be closed until Fall 2021.
- The Broadway League previously announced that performances would be canceled through at least January 3, 2021, because of the coronavirus outbreak. Theaters were offering exchanges and refunds for tickets purchased for performances through then.
- “We literally cannot reopen unless there is a confidence in the safety of the cast and crew and theatergoers,” St. Martin told local news last May. “So we don’t really know when that will be and that’s part of the challenge we’re facing.”
- Actors Equity, the union that represents both actors and stage managers, has supported the decision to keep theaters closed, but say that federal aid must be increased, “These responsible decisions mean that the industry will need support so that when it is safe to reopen, the arts can go back to work and help the entire economy recover,” they stated.
- When Broadway closed in March, there were 31 shows running, including eight in previews. An additional eight shows were scheduled to begin performances. It’s unknown how many of those shows will be able to return.
- Many industry insiders tell me that we shouldn’t expect Broadway to return until a COVID-19 vaccine has been safely distributed. Add that to the fact that New York isn’t anywhere near letting crowds to gather indoors, this might not be necessarily a shock.
- But we spoke to one actor who surprisingly found relief to the news. “At least I know not to have my hopes up for January. I can go try and find someone else now.”
- While there have been regional theatres who have been able to resume operations with socially distanced audiences, mask mandates, and other protocols approved by Actor’s Equity, a producer told OnStage Blog that such measures just aren’t financially viable for Broadway budgets.
- “There’s no point being in business until the public feels it’s safe enough to be in a crowded theatre.”
- UPDATE: 10/9/21 – The Broadway League officially sent out the following statement:
- The Broadway League announces the continued suspension of all ticket sales for Broadway performances in NYC through May 30, 2021.
- Dates for each returning and new Broadway show will be announced as individual productions determine the performance schedules for their respective shows. The League will provide updates to the public as more information becomes available.
- “With nearly 97,000 workers who rely on Broadway for their livelihood and an annual economic impact of $14.8 billion to the city, our membership is committed to re-opening as soon as conditions permit us to do so. We are working tirelessly with multiple partners on sustaining the industry once we raise our curtains again,” said Charlotte St. Martin, President of the Broadway League.
- Theatregoers holding tickets for dates through May 30, 2021 should contact their point of purchase for details about exchanges and refunds.
- Broadway performances were initially suspended due to COVID 19 on March 12, 2020. At that time, 31 productions were running, including 8 new shows in previews. Additionally, 8 productions were in rehearsals preparing to open in the spring.

- New York Comic Con has gone digital for 2020, and here’s your one-stop shop for all the breaking news, trailers, footage, and more.
- New York Comic Con 2020 is very different to previous years, but it will still lead to a lot of film, TV, and comic book news. 2020 has been a difficult year for the entertainment industry, which has been significantly affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Some of the biggest fan celebrations have sadly been cancelled, while others have moved online. These have had mixed success, with DC FanDome setting the Gold Standard while San Diego’s Comic-Con@Home proved something of a disappointment.
- New York Comic Con has gone virtual as well, in a digital event that’s been dubbed “Metaverse.” It features a schedule of panels on television and film properties, alongside video games, comics, and toy-focused discussions. Organizer Reedpop has made the most of the virtual environment, drawing in a lot of celebrity guests, and fans even have the opportunity to set up digital meet-and-greets with some of the stars. The event runs for four days, featuring everything from Star Trek: Discovery to Doctor Who, and The Boys to Snowpiercer.
- The convention’s cancellation is naturally something of a disappointment, but this digital format is very much a gift to the relevant fanbases. It means everything will be released online, and fans don’t need to be physically present at New York in order to check out the panel for their favorite franchise. Still, with so many panels involved, it will be very easy to miss some of the key news. Fortunately, Screen Rant is on hand to ensure you get everything you need to know, in this handy one-stop-shop guide.
- You can watch all the NYCC 2020 panels on the official YouTube channel, at YouTube.com/NYCC. While this will be a different experience to the normal convention, it nonetheless means anyone can check out the panels of their choice. The NYCC 2020 schedule runs from October 8 through to October 11, and panels will be archived on the channel after they’ve streamed, so you’ll be able to catch up at your leisure should you miss one.
- There are a lot of panels running at New York Comic Con 2020, ranging from movies to TV shows, from sci-fi and fantasy to horror. Here, you can select an area of interest and check out what panels are showing over the next few days, working out your schedule.

0:01:12.960,0:01:18.159
and unstoppable today i don’t know
0:01:14.960,0:01:18.960
is it because we exercised our right to
0:01:18.159,0:01:21.920
vote today
0:01:18.960,0:01:23.240
that is exactly what wow i’m good like
0:01:21.920,0:01:26.240
that you are
0:01:23.240,0:01:30.720
unstoppable in your
0:01:26.240,0:01:32.640
political uh ambitions
0:01:30.720,0:01:34.000
am i running for office or something and
0:01:32.640,0:01:37.119
i don’t know about
0:01:34.000,0:01:38.780
i am old enough according to the podcast
0:01:37.119,0:01:41.819
you and
0:01:38.780,0:01:41.819
[Music]
0:01:43.920,0:01:48.240
but now i did i did a quick search for
0:01:46.159,0:01:48.960
five words that best describe ruth bader
0:01:48.240,0:01:51.759
ginsburg
0:01:48.960,0:01:53.520
and they were two of the five that came
0:01:51.759,0:01:54.880
up and since i only used two to describe
0:01:53.520,0:01:58.079
you we kind of had to
0:01:54.880,0:02:02.159
well i feel very honored to to be in
0:01:58.079,0:02:03.759
good company with her indeed so today
0:02:02.159,0:02:05.280
we will be talking in our disney
0:02:03.759,0:02:07.280
detective
0:02:05.280,0:02:09.920
about there being no plans for
0:02:07.280,0:02:12.080
disneyland opening still
0:02:09.920,0:02:14.080
disney bloggers are helping out cast
0:02:12.080,0:02:16.000
members in need which is a nice
0:02:14.080,0:02:18.560
feel-good story
0:02:16.000,0:02:20.560
and another new pixar movie coming to
0:02:18.560,0:02:22.560
disney plus
0:02:20.560,0:02:24.959
then in our tails from the edge of the
0:02:22.560,0:02:25.760
galaxy a new star wars pinball machine
0:02:24.959,0:02:26.959
that i’m always
0:02:25.760,0:02:29.520
already trying to figure out where i’m
0:02:26.959,0:02:33.200
going to fit
0:02:29.520,0:02:34.560
and the high republic will redefine the
0:02:33.200,0:02:36.640
force
0:02:34.560,0:02:38.080
and then for our entertainment news
0:02:36.640,0:02:41.200
we’ll be looking at the loss
0:02:38.080,0:02:44.239
of a music legend uh broadway
0:02:41.200,0:02:45.599
to remain dark and then some light at
0:02:44.239,0:02:49.120

0:02:50.879,0:02:53.360
our insightful picks of the week which
0:02:52.560,0:02:56.160
were a couple of
0:02:53.360,0:02:58.400
really fun ones this week yep they were
0:02:56.160,0:03:01.280
so before we get into all that though
0:02:58.400,0:03:02.959

0:03:52.480,0:04:01.760
get started
0:03:53.120,0:04:04.879
sure all right let’s do it
0:04:01.760,0:04:08.400
joe for disney detective uh so
0:04:04.879,0:04:12.159
still you know no no news coming from
0:04:08.400,0:04:14.319
from california on wednesday
0:04:12.159,0:04:17.199
the governor of california said that he
0:04:14.319,0:04:19.359
is in no hurry to reopen disneyland
0:04:17.199,0:04:20.320
or any of the other amusement parks in
0:04:19.359,0:04:23.360
the area
0:04:20.320,0:04:25.440
so in the news conference he said
0:04:23.360,0:04:27.919
while there are disagreements about
0:04:25.440,0:04:29.440
opening california’s theme parks which
0:04:27.919,0:04:33.520
include disneyland
0:04:29.440,0:04:35.199
universal hollywood knottsbury farms six
0:04:33.520,0:04:36.880
flags magic mountain
0:04:35.199,0:04:39.840
all of which have been closed since
0:04:36.880,0:04:42.560
march state officials are going to let
0:04:39.840,0:04:43.280
science and data make that determination
0:04:42.560,0:04:45.759
he says i
0:04:43.280,0:04:48.080
understand the friction the frustration
0:04:45.759,0:04:49.759
that many business leaders have
0:04:48.080,0:04:53.199
and that they want to move forward to
0:04:49.759,0:04:55.199
reopen but we’re going to be led by a
0:04:53.199,0:04:57.440
health first framework
0:04:55.199,0:04:58.720
and we’re going to be stubborn about it
0:04:57.440,0:05:01.039
the governor said
0:04:58.720,0:05:01.840
that is our commitment that’s our
0:05:01.039,0:05:03.520
resolve
0:05:01.840,0:05:05.840
while we feel there is no hurry in
0:05:03.520,0:05:07.520
putting out guidelines we continue to
0:05:05.840,0:05:09.919
work with the industry
0:05:07.520,0:05:11.280
he also added we don’t anticipate the
0:05:09.919,0:05:13.280
immediate term
0:05:11.280,0:05:14.639
of any of these larger theme parks
0:05:13.280,0:05:17.759
opening until we see
0:05:14.639,0:05:20.960
more stability in terms of data
0:05:17.759,0:05:23.199
so obviously disneyland was hoping to be
0:05:20.960,0:05:26.080
opening up in july
0:05:23.199,0:05:27.520
obviously that came and went nothing
0:05:26.080,0:05:28.639
happened with that the only thing that
0:05:27.520,0:05:31.680
did open up
0:05:28.639,0:05:33.520
was the downtown disney shopping area
0:05:31.680,0:05:36.240
same thing happened with knottsbury
0:05:33.520,0:05:36.720
farms they were able to open up for
0:05:36.240,0:05:40.000
their
0:05:36.720,0:05:43.280
food fest but none of the rides
0:05:40.000,0:05:45.919
um have been opened
0:05:43.280,0:05:47.840
for you know for that and then no other
0:05:45.919,0:05:50.800
park has has seen anything
0:05:47.840,0:05:52.639
obviously we know that all the other
0:05:50.800,0:05:54.400
disney parks as we’ve you know been
0:05:52.639,0:05:56.800
talking about for weeks now
0:05:54.400,0:05:57.840
they’re all open nobody’s really had any
0:05:56.800,0:06:00.960
issues it’s just
0:05:57.840,0:06:02.720
california’s last one and obviously the
0:06:00.960,0:06:05.280
news came out last week
0:06:02.720,0:06:06.000
um where disney was going to be laying
0:06:05.280,0:06:09.120
off
0:06:06.000,0:06:12.240
28 000 total employees
0:06:09.120,0:06:15.680
obviously a good chunk of them you know
0:06:12.240,0:06:18.960
probably coming from from california um
0:06:15.680,0:06:21.199
and you know 67 percent of them being
0:06:18.960,0:06:22.000
part-time employees and you know both
0:06:21.199,0:06:25.280
parks
0:06:22.000,0:06:29.280
you know uh do have a lot of part-time
0:06:25.280,0:06:32.080
employees that that work there too so
0:06:29.280,0:06:32.880
you know you kind of feel for for
0:06:32.080,0:06:35.759
everybody
0:06:32.880,0:06:36.639
you know out on the west coast but you
0:06:35.759,0:06:38.479
know
0:06:36.639,0:06:40.400
you want everybody to be safe you don’t
0:06:38.479,0:06:43.680
want to have
0:06:40.400,0:06:45.120
you know a surge obviously um you know
0:06:43.680,0:06:48.880
the parks that are in
0:06:45.120,0:06:50.880
in california are you know more local
0:06:48.880,0:06:51.919
parks you get you know more of the
0:06:50.880,0:06:54.080
locals that come
0:06:51.919,0:06:54.960
and obviously they don’t feel that their
0:06:54.080,0:06:58.000
numbers have
0:06:54.960,0:07:00.880
have gone down enough to warrant
0:06:58.000,0:07:01.360
you know an opening so well you know i
0:07:00.880,0:07:02.960
can’t
0:07:01.360,0:07:05.280
fault the governor for what he’s trying
0:07:02.960,0:07:08.720
to do he’s trying to do things
0:07:05.280,0:07:09.919
as safely as possible i’m sure there’s a
0:07:08.720,0:07:13.199
lot of people that don’t
0:07:09.919,0:07:15.039
agree with what he’s doing and
0:07:13.199,0:07:17.280
the problem that you have is because
0:07:15.039,0:07:18.319
this is so unprecedented there’s no way
0:07:17.280,0:07:20.720
to know
0:07:18.319,0:07:22.880
like everyone guesses at what the impact
0:07:20.720,0:07:25.919
is going to be long term on this
0:07:22.880,0:07:25.919
nobody really knows
0:07:26.160,0:07:32.800
so it’s scary a lot of people are scared
0:07:29.440,0:07:35.840
at not only the pandemic itself
0:07:32.800,0:07:38.000
but the uncertainty you know i was
0:07:35.840,0:07:39.759
telling you a story
0:07:38.000,0:07:41.039
just the other day you know i was going
0:07:39.759,0:07:44.319
to grab something
0:07:41.039,0:07:47.280
at lunch and i went up driving through a
0:07:44.319,0:07:47.680
home depot parking lot but occasionally
0:07:47.280,0:07:50.080
in the
0:07:47.680,0:07:51.120
area that that i work you’ll get one or
0:07:50.080,0:07:52.720
two
0:07:51.120,0:07:54.479
you know homeless people out there with
0:07:52.720,0:07:57.840
signs you know trying to
0:07:54.479,0:08:00.000
raise money and it broke my heart to see
0:07:57.840,0:08:01.520
a man out there with this cardboard sign
0:08:00.000,0:08:04.720
that basically said
0:08:01.520,0:08:06.160
you know ran into hard times please help
0:08:04.720,0:08:08.080
i’ve got three kids
0:08:06.160,0:08:11.039
and his wife and kids were right there
0:08:08.080,0:08:14.080
on the side with them
0:08:11.039,0:08:16.960
so it’s it’s real
0:08:14.080,0:08:18.639
you know and things like that hit home
0:08:16.960,0:08:21.680
things like this hit home you know the
0:08:18.639,0:08:23.840
number of people that are out of work
0:08:21.680,0:08:24.960
but you have to handle things in a way
0:08:23.840,0:08:27.280
that
0:08:24.960,0:08:28.639
would you nobody wants you to be out of
0:08:27.280,0:08:30.479
work right nobody wants you to be
0:08:28.639,0:08:32.800
homeless
0:08:30.479,0:08:33.839
but there’s a real threat to public
0:08:32.800,0:08:37.360
health there’s there’s
0:08:33.839,0:08:39.599
over 211 000 americans
0:08:37.360,0:08:41.039
and that’s just in our country alone are
0:08:39.599,0:08:44.480
dead already from this
0:08:41.039,0:08:47.200
right so
0:08:44.480,0:08:49.120
i i i can’t fault the governor for for
0:08:47.200,0:08:50.880
wanting to try to stop that because the
0:08:49.120,0:08:52.320
numbers are not going in the direction
0:08:50.880,0:08:55.600
that they need to go
0:08:52.320,0:08:59.279
yeah like theme parks and and you know
0:08:55.600,0:09:02.480
recreational things are kind of like
0:08:59.279,0:09:03.120
the bottom of what needs to to open back
0:09:02.480,0:09:06.640
up
0:09:03.120,0:09:10.080
you know if you had to put you know on
0:09:06.640,0:09:11.920
on a scale of you know the importance of
0:09:10.080,0:09:14.959
what to open up and and
0:09:11.920,0:09:17.839
what to bring back obviously
0:09:14.959,0:09:18.720
you know for for that industry it it’s
0:09:17.839,0:09:21.760
hurting
0:09:18.720,0:09:22.240
obviously but again you have to think of
0:09:21.760,0:09:25.200
the
0:09:22.240,0:09:25.920
the health and safety of of everybody
0:09:25.200,0:09:28.959
and that’s the thing
0:09:25.920,0:09:30.959
theme parks are potentially
0:09:28.959,0:09:32.240
a place where this could spread very
0:09:30.959,0:09:34.800
easily right
0:09:32.240,0:09:37.040
unfortunately they haven’t seen any
0:09:34.800,0:09:38.959
major outbreaks in florida so far
0:09:37.040,0:09:40.320
right so they’ve been very fortunate
0:09:38.959,0:09:42.560
with that but
0:09:40.320,0:09:44.480
just the nature of the type of business
0:09:42.560,0:09:47.440
itself makes it a danger
0:09:44.480,0:09:48.480
right and and now you know i happen to
0:09:47.440,0:09:51.200
just see something
0:09:48.480,0:09:52.959
you know just a a little while ago there
0:09:51.200,0:09:55.440
were new signage
0:09:52.959,0:09:56.320
that they were putting up at walt disney
0:09:55.440,0:09:59.200
world
0:09:56.320,0:10:00.880
saying that if you are not wearing your
0:09:59.200,0:10:02.959
mask correctly
0:10:00.880,0:10:04.640
they can eject you from the park now
0:10:02.959,0:10:06.079
yeah that they’re not
0:10:04.640,0:10:08.000
yeah there should be a zero tolerance
0:10:06.079,0:10:09.760
problem and there should be
0:10:08.000,0:10:11.120
you know this isn’t a joke this isn’t a
0:10:09.760,0:10:13.440
convenience right
0:10:11.120,0:10:15.680
and the thing is you’re you know you’re
0:10:13.440,0:10:19.440
paying to be on private property
0:10:15.680,0:10:22.399
so they set the rules so you know
0:10:19.440,0:10:22.880
no infringement is is you know being
0:10:22.399,0:10:26.000
done
0:10:22.880,0:10:29.200
to you you made that conscious effort
0:10:26.000,0:10:31.279
to go to their park to go on their
0:10:29.200,0:10:32.560
property you abide by their rules and if
0:10:31.279,0:10:35.120
you don’t abide
0:10:32.560,0:10:36.160
they have every right to to kick you out
0:10:35.120,0:10:39.920
yeah
0:10:36.160,0:10:41.920
so the one you know silver lining
0:10:39.920,0:10:43.519
that’s coming out of this is our next
0:10:41.920,0:10:44.000
story and that’s people that actually
0:10:43.519,0:10:46.720
are
0:10:44.000,0:10:47.120
helping out these folks yeah so there is
0:10:46.720,0:10:50.000
a
0:10:47.120,0:10:51.040
husband and wife uh who are disney
0:10:50.000,0:10:53.360
bloggers
0:10:51.040,0:10:55.920
um who have been offering advice since
0:10:53.360,0:10:58.839
2011 about all things disney
0:10:55.920,0:11:00.560
on their blog called
0:10:58.839,0:11:02.480
thedisneytouristblog.com
0:11:00.560,0:11:04.399
and when central florida when the
0:11:02.480,0:11:05.839
central florida couple heard that disney
0:11:04.399,0:11:06.800
would be laying off thousands of
0:11:05.839,0:11:09.760
employees
0:11:06.800,0:11:12.160
they created a virtual fundraising drive
0:11:09.760,0:11:14.320
for the second harvest food bank
0:11:12.160,0:11:16.480
of central florida now we’ve mentioned
0:11:14.320,0:11:17.200
them before because when the park first
0:11:16.480,0:11:19.519
closed
0:11:17.200,0:11:20.399
and they had all this food that was
0:11:19.519,0:11:24.079
available
0:11:20.399,0:11:26.880
uh disney world actually donated
0:11:24.079,0:11:28.399
a good portion of it to uh this food
0:11:26.880,0:11:31.839
bank um
0:11:28.399,0:11:35.360
so they uh so the food bank has now
0:11:31.839,0:11:38.240
been you know feeding
0:11:35.360,0:11:39.519
you know so many people in the central
0:11:38.240,0:11:42.480
florida area
0:11:39.519,0:11:44.399
who are affected by all of you know not
0:11:42.480,0:11:46.160
only the parks but other tourist
0:11:44.399,0:11:48.800
industries that have been closed
0:11:46.160,0:11:50.560
during this um so they had posted
0:11:48.800,0:11:51.040
whether you live in central florida or
0:11:50.560,0:11:53.519
not
0:11:51.040,0:11:55.920
we are all part of the same community as
0:11:53.519,0:11:58.480
walt disney world fans
0:11:55.920,0:12:00.399
they had actually placed a donation
0:11:58.480,0:12:01.839
themselves and they had said please help
0:12:00.399,0:12:04.000
by giving back to those
0:12:01.839,0:12:06.880
who have made such magic for us over the
0:12:04.000,0:12:10.079
years so the food bank has doubled its
0:12:06.880,0:12:13.200
daily distribution during the pandemic
0:12:10.079,0:12:16.240
from 150 000 to 300
0:12:13.200,0:12:20.160
000 meals a day to the heightened
0:12:16.240,0:12:22.959
um need of the area
0:12:20.160,0:12:24.079
so they started the fundraiser you know
0:12:22.959,0:12:27.200
and they were hoping
0:12:24.079,0:12:30.160
maybe they’d raise two thousand dollars
0:12:27.200,0:12:32.480
um within the first 24 hours they had
0:12:30.160,0:12:34.720
raised 25 000
0:12:32.480,0:12:35.760
and that the morning when this article
0:12:34.720,0:12:39.040
actually came out
0:12:35.760,0:12:40.000
which was a couple of days ago it was up
0:12:39.040,0:12:43.040
to 37
0:12:40.000,0:12:46.000
000 so by now i’m sure
0:12:43.040,0:12:47.519
you know it’s it’s gone beyond that so
0:12:46.000,0:12:50.639
each dollar raised
0:12:47.519,0:12:51.360
can provide four meals uh to families in
0:12:50.639,0:12:54.240
need
0:12:51.360,0:12:54.880
um they said that you know they haven’t
0:12:54.240,0:12:57.839
even
0:12:54.880,0:12:59.680
uh that the the the husband and wife had
0:12:57.839,0:13:02.079
actually told cnn because
0:12:59.680,0:13:04.480
that’s where the article uh came from
0:13:02.079,0:13:07.040
they asked second harvest
0:13:04.480,0:13:08.240
um not to ear mark the funds
0:13:07.040,0:13:11.279
specifically for
0:13:08.240,0:13:13.120
employees in the the area because they
0:13:11.279,0:13:15.519
said we didn’t want to exclude
0:13:13.120,0:13:16.560
anybody so basically anybody in central
0:13:15.519,0:13:18.240
florida
0:13:16.560,0:13:21.360
they wanted to help out they didn’t want
0:13:18.240,0:13:23.760
it to just be for cast members but yet
0:13:21.360,0:13:25.440
a good portion of them you know people
0:13:23.760,0:13:28.240
that are going are
0:13:25.440,0:13:29.360
you know cast members so they were
0:13:28.240,0:13:32.480
saying that by
0:13:29.360,0:13:33.600
um sunday they were going to be at forty
0:13:32.480,0:13:36.000
thousand dollars they
0:13:33.600,0:13:37.440
they knew it was going so i’m sure again
0:13:36.000,0:13:40.800
it’s probably
0:13:37.440,0:13:41.760
gone beyond that so you know very nice
0:13:40.800,0:13:43.600
to hear
0:13:41.760,0:13:45.680
you know that that people and and i’ve
0:13:43.600,0:13:46.480
seen it posted on on facebook a couple
0:13:45.680,0:13:49.360
of times
0:13:46.480,0:13:50.240
you know different you know disney fans
0:13:49.360,0:13:53.040
saying
0:13:50.240,0:13:54.240
you know hey i’m doing okay i can you
0:13:53.040,0:13:56.240
know
0:13:54.240,0:13:57.279
give a hundred bucks or give 50 bucks or
0:13:56.240,0:13:59.519
give 20 bucks
0:13:57.279,0:14:00.320
just to to help out you know those in
0:13:59.519,0:14:02.240
need so
0:14:00.320,0:14:03.600
yeah and i think that’s outstanding and
0:14:02.240,0:14:07.680
that really shows
0:14:03.600,0:14:10.399
the unity of this community
0:14:07.680,0:14:11.839
it really it’s everything you know i’ve
0:14:10.399,0:14:15.760
railed against disney a lobby
0:14:11.839,0:14:19.279
i know not everything in disney is
0:14:15.760,0:14:21.279
is all roses and sunshine yeah
0:14:19.279,0:14:22.800
but this isn’t disney that’s doing this
0:14:21.279,0:14:25.040
this is the fans
0:14:22.800,0:14:26.399
this is the people that have been
0:14:25.040,0:14:28.959
touched by disney
0:14:26.399,0:14:30.160
in a positive way yeah and are giving
0:14:28.959,0:14:33.680
back and i think that
0:14:30.160,0:14:36.560
that’s outstanding mm-hmm you know it
0:14:33.680,0:14:37.760
it restores my faith in humanity to see
0:14:36.560,0:14:40.880
things like this
0:14:37.760,0:14:44.560
yes so tell us about the new
0:14:40.880,0:14:47.440
pixar movie that’ll be coming out so um
0:14:44.560,0:14:48.240
disney will premiere its next pixar film
0:14:47.440,0:14:51.279
which is called
0:14:48.240,0:14:53.560
seoul on disney plus this christmas
0:14:51.279,0:14:54.959
instead of releasing it theatric
0:14:53.560,0:14:57.519
theatrically
0:14:54.959,0:14:58.240
loved yeah sure in countries where
0:14:57.519,0:15:01.199
disney plus
0:14:58.240,0:15:03.120
is available the film was originally
0:15:01.199,0:15:04.000
scheduled to be released in theaters in
0:15:03.120,0:15:07.199
november
0:15:04.000,0:15:07.680
but with the coronavirus obviously they
0:15:07.199,0:15:11.120
figure
0:15:07.680,0:15:13.040
disney plus is a safer bet so soul is
0:15:11.120,0:15:14.320
the latest film that disney has moved
0:15:13.040,0:15:16.959
from its theatrical
0:15:14.320,0:15:18.720
slate to disney plus they did that with
0:15:16.959,0:15:22.560
artemis fowl
0:15:18.720,0:15:24.480
uh hamilton and mulan which debuted as a
0:15:22.560,0:15:27.120
premier access title
0:15:24.480,0:15:29.519
um seoul will not be a premier title
0:15:27.120,0:15:32.880
meaning that it’ll be free to everybody
0:15:29.519,0:15:35.120
who has disney plus uh when it premieres
0:15:32.880,0:15:36.079
uh the studio recently pushed back
0:15:35.120,0:15:39.680
marvel’s
0:15:36.079,0:15:41.680
black widow to 2021
0:15:39.680,0:15:43.199
part of the issue is that so many
0:15:41.680,0:15:45.199
theaters and key markets
0:15:43.199,0:15:46.560
like new york los angeles and san
0:15:45.199,0:15:49.519
francisco still remain
0:15:46.560,0:15:52.079
closed and those that are open are
0:15:49.519,0:15:54.639
working under heavy restrictions
0:15:52.079,0:15:56.160
plus the studios obviously can’t predict
0:15:54.639,0:15:58.320
consumer behavior
0:15:56.160,0:15:59.920
warner brothers which had released uh
0:15:58.320,0:16:02.480
christopher nolan’s movie
0:15:59.920,0:16:04.000
globally while it performed decently
0:16:02.480,0:16:07.040
overseas
0:16:04.000,0:16:08.639
it hasn’t seen you know uh really good
0:16:07.040,0:16:10.000
results here in in the us
0:16:08.639,0:16:13.440
and again that’s because a lot of the
0:16:10.000,0:16:16.320
theaters um haven’t been opening
0:16:13.440,0:16:18.240
so fortunately for disney one business
0:16:16.320,0:16:20.880
that is continuing to grow
0:16:18.240,0:16:21.600
is disney plus the streaming service now
0:16:20.880,0:16:24.639
has more than
0:16:21.600,0:16:26.399
60 million subscribers worldwide
0:16:24.639,0:16:28.759
a number that disney wasn’t even
0:16:26.399,0:16:30.320
expecting to see until approximately
0:16:28.759,0:16:32.079
2024.
0:16:30.320,0:16:33.759
when disney brought hamilton to its
0:16:32.079,0:16:37.199
streaming service the company saw a
0:16:33.759,0:16:39.759
number of new signups and
0:16:37.199,0:16:41.199
you know obviously with everybody being
0:16:39.759,0:16:43.199
home
0:16:41.199,0:16:45.040
you need some entertainment and
0:16:43.199,0:16:47.839
something different so
0:16:45.040,0:16:48.399
make sense um you know that that it’s
0:16:47.839,0:16:51.759
doing
0:16:48.399,0:16:54.079
uh well so the movie seoul
0:16:51.759,0:16:56.880
follows a middle school music teacher
0:16:54.079,0:16:59.040
named joe who is voiced by jamie foxx
0:16:56.880,0:17:01.839
who finds himself in a metaphysical
0:16:59.040,0:17:04.720
world where new souls are created
0:17:01.839,0:17:05.439
stuck in this new and strange place joe
0:17:04.720,0:17:08.079
teams up
0:17:05.439,0:17:08.959
with a with one soul who is voiced by
0:17:08.079,0:17:11.199
tina fey
0:17:08.959,0:17:12.480
to try and explain why life is so
0:17:11.199,0:17:15.520
wonderful
0:17:12.480,0:17:18.400
so that’ll kind of be you know
0:17:15.520,0:17:19.439
fun to look forward to during the the
0:17:18.400,0:17:23.280
holiday season
0:17:19.439,0:17:26.480
pixar of you know always puts out um
0:17:23.280,0:17:28.799
you know a good show so
0:17:26.480,0:17:30.240
something again to to look forward to
0:17:28.799,0:17:33.200
while being
0:17:30.240,0:17:34.799
stuck at home during quarantine so we’ve
0:17:33.200,0:17:36.000
definitely gotten our money’s worth out
0:17:34.799,0:17:39.360
of our disney
0:17:36.000,0:17:41.840
our disney plus uh subscription
0:17:39.360,0:17:44.080
you know for sure so yeah it’s nice to
0:17:41.840,0:17:45.840
see that they’re still able to produce
0:17:44.080,0:17:47.679
the movies and i guess you know because
0:17:45.840,0:17:48.960
of the nature of how they’re making
0:17:47.679,0:17:50.000
their movies right you don’t have the
0:17:48.960,0:17:51.520
same restrictions
0:17:50.000,0:17:53.360
right and that’s the thing is you know
0:17:51.520,0:17:55.760
we know that it takes them
0:17:53.360,0:17:56.720
so long for movies to to be in
0:17:55.760,0:18:00.320
production
0:17:56.720,0:18:03.440
and that in most cases you can still
0:18:00.320,0:18:05.280
produce the movie under you know the
0:18:03.440,0:18:06.559
the various circumstances that we’re all
0:18:05.280,0:18:09.600
in right now
0:18:06.559,0:18:11.840
it’s also nice to see that disney is
0:18:09.600,0:18:13.360
leveraging disney plus i know there are
0:18:11.840,0:18:16.160
some other streaming services
0:18:13.360,0:18:17.919
out there who are struggling to produce
0:18:16.160,0:18:20.480
original content
0:18:17.919,0:18:22.320
and the lack of original content is
0:18:20.480,0:18:22.960
really hurting their subscriber base
0:18:22.320,0:18:25.600
right now
0:18:22.960,0:18:28.400
yeah so disney’s very smart a lot of
0:18:25.600,0:18:30.960
people had concerns about disney relying
0:18:28.400,0:18:33.760
too heavily on its back catalog
0:18:30.960,0:18:35.520
to keep subscribers but they’re doing i
0:18:33.760,0:18:38.240
think a fantastic job of
0:18:35.520,0:18:39.440
producing original content that is
0:18:38.240,0:18:41.120
relevant content
0:18:39.440,0:18:42.880
it’s entertaining content and it’s stuff
0:18:41.120,0:18:43.679
that people want to see yeah and the
0:18:42.880,0:18:46.400
other thing too
0:18:43.679,0:18:47.760
is that you know obviously maddie and i
0:18:46.400,0:18:50.320
are
0:18:47.760,0:18:51.120
big consumers of disney plus that’s you
0:18:50.320,0:18:53.440
know what we
0:18:51.120,0:18:54.320
usually watch when we do our little you
0:18:53.440,0:18:56.960
know uh
0:18:54.320,0:18:59.039
movie night most nights of of the week
0:18:56.960,0:19:02.799
and we’ve noticed a lot more
0:18:59.039,0:19:04.480
movies you know coming that haven’t been
0:19:02.799,0:19:06.559
from the beginning a lot more live
0:19:04.480,0:19:08.400
action um
0:19:06.559,0:19:10.400
and a lot of the stuff is stuff that
0:19:08.400,0:19:13.360
we’ve seen some of it we haven’t
0:19:10.400,0:19:14.240
yet so um and then again some original
0:19:13.360,0:19:16.880
stuff
0:19:14.240,0:19:18.559
uh as well so you know it’s nice that
0:19:16.880,0:19:21.200
they didn’t have it
0:19:18.559,0:19:23.280
all in one shot that they’re kind of you
0:19:21.200,0:19:24.160
know giving it to you in in drips and
0:19:23.280,0:19:26.160
drabs which is
0:19:24.160,0:19:27.520
which is nice um you know some
0:19:26.160,0:19:29.120
documentaries
0:19:27.520,0:19:31.200
you know that you and i have even
0:19:29.120,0:19:32.160
watched um there were a couple that i
0:19:31.200,0:19:35.039
even watched
0:19:32.160,0:19:35.520
you know with her so there’s you know
0:19:35.039,0:19:37.600
still
0:19:35.520,0:19:38.720
a whole lot of you know stuff that we
0:19:37.600,0:19:41.440
haven’t even
0:19:38.720,0:19:43.840
scratched the surface on but again each
0:19:41.440,0:19:46.160
month it seems like a little bit more
0:19:43.840,0:19:46.960
you know is coming so it’s definitely
0:19:46.160,0:19:50.320
been
0:19:46.960,0:19:52.640
you know uh you know and i don’t think
0:19:50.320,0:19:54.880
anyone expected disney with their
0:19:52.640,0:19:56.799
entertainment reputation to
0:19:54.880,0:19:58.000
to fail i mean everybody kind of knew
0:19:56.799,0:20:00.880
they were going to do it right
0:19:58.000,0:20:02.400
right right but it’s nice to see that
0:20:00.880,0:20:05.440
they’re exceeding experts
0:20:02.400,0:20:07.039
yeah yeah so that was all we had for our
0:20:05.440,0:20:09.360
disney detective we’ll take a quick
0:20:07.039,0:20:20.000
break and we’ll be back with our tales

[Applause]
0:21:21.919,0:21:25.440
go for tails from the edge of the galaxy
0:21:24.320,0:21:27.919
and i don’t have this
0:21:25.440,0:21:28.799
the sound the hang on wait wait wait
0:21:27.919,0:21:31.120
wait wait
0:21:28.799,0:21:31.120
anyway
0:21:35.679,0:21:43.480
wow that was so ant so glad i waited
0:21:40.240,0:21:44.880
uh so this was a story that popped up on
0:21:43.480,0:21:47.760
starwars.com
0:21:44.880,0:21:48.799
i’m talking about a new star wars
0:21:47.760,0:21:51.840
pinball
0:21:48.799,0:21:54.400
game that would be coming out
0:21:51.840,0:21:54.880
unfortunately the article really doesn’t
0:21:54.400,0:21:58.960
talk
0:21:54.880,0:22:01.679
much about when it’s coming
0:21:58.960,0:22:02.400
it it really talks about zen studios
0:22:01.679,0:22:05.280
which
0:22:02.400,0:22:07.760
has been making star wars pinball
0:22:05.280,0:22:10.960
machines since 2013
0:22:07.760,0:22:14.240
but actually the company um
0:22:10.960,0:22:17.280
is working with arcade one up
0:22:14.240,0:22:18.240
who we happen to know very well because
0:22:17.280,0:22:21.440
of our
0:22:18.240,0:22:22.159
star wars video game uh that’s right
0:22:21.440,0:22:24.880
there
0:22:22.159,0:22:26.000
uh who is made by them uh so it seems
0:22:24.880,0:22:29.360
that they’re teaming
0:22:26.000,0:22:33.280
up to create a
0:22:29.360,0:22:36.720
uh digital vid uh arcade um
0:22:33.280,0:22:38.840
let’s try this again a digital pinball
0:22:36.720,0:22:41.760
machine so it’s actually
0:22:38.840,0:22:44.000
doesn’t criticize my sound effects after
0:22:41.760,0:22:44.000
that
0:22:44.080,0:22:50.480
whatever um
0:22:47.120,0:22:53.039
so basically what they’re they’re doing
0:22:50.480,0:22:56.559
is making a virtual pinball machine
0:22:53.039,0:23:00.000
it’s going to be 3 4 scale of
0:22:56.559,0:23:01.120
a regular pinball machine not much
0:23:00.000,0:23:03.760
information
0:23:01.120,0:23:05.360
about this is really on there it’s
0:23:03.760,0:23:06.640
basically going to be constructed of
0:23:05.360,0:23:10.240
wood and metal
0:23:06.640,0:23:13.760
just under five foot um it’ll feature
0:23:10.240,0:23:17.039
dual speakers an eight inch lcd
0:23:13.760,0:23:17.600
animated score screen a du adjustable
0:23:17.039,0:23:20.720
feet
0:23:17.600,0:23:25.039
and an impressive recessed 24 inch
0:23:20.720,0:23:29.280
hd lcd playfield so
0:23:25.039,0:23:31.280
it’s going to be kind of big and
0:23:29.280,0:23:33.039
that was really all that the the article
0:23:31.280,0:23:35.440
had i even tried doing
0:23:33.039,0:23:36.960
some research to to see if there was
0:23:35.440,0:23:37.600
more and it looked like they had
0:23:36.960,0:23:39.200
actually
0:23:37.600,0:23:41.200
started talking about this back in
0:23:39.200,0:23:44.240
january so
0:23:41.200,0:23:45.200
i don’t know if because of you know the
0:23:44.240,0:23:48.400
pandemic
0:23:45.200,0:23:48.880
if production has you know slowed down
0:23:48.400,0:23:52.240
or
0:23:48.880,0:23:53.279
you know kind of ceased um it looks
0:23:52.240,0:23:55.120
really cool in
0:23:53.279,0:23:57.440
in the renderings and and things like
0:23:55.120,0:24:00.400
that if you do go to
0:23:57.440,0:24:00.960
arcade one ups website they actually
0:24:00.400,0:24:04.400
have
0:24:00.960,0:24:08.640
a marvel version of the pinball machine
0:24:04.400,0:24:10.640
on the site but no pricing no dates no
0:24:08.640,0:24:13.279
anything it’s basically there’s a button
0:24:10.640,0:24:15.600
that you can click to submit your email
0:24:13.279,0:24:16.400
to get more information as it becomes
0:24:15.600,0:24:18.559
available
0:24:16.400,0:24:20.880
so our biggest thing is trying to figure
0:24:18.559,0:24:22.400
out where the heck it’s going to go
0:24:20.880,0:24:24.240
and how difficult it’s going to be to
0:24:22.400,0:24:27.760
put together
0:24:24.240,0:24:29.760
yes because i’ll be happy to remove the
0:24:27.760,0:24:32.480
bookcase that’s next to the current
0:24:29.760,0:24:32.880
star wars arcade machine right if it’ll
0:24:32.480,0:24:36.240
fit
0:24:32.880,0:24:36.640
there i think if it goes there you’re
0:24:36.240,0:24:40.080
not
0:24:36.640,0:24:40.880
leaving that corner yeah so we might
0:24:40.080,0:24:43.279
have to
0:24:40.880,0:24:45.440
either rearrange the studio or it goes
0:24:43.279,0:24:48.799
downstairs in the star wars
0:24:45.440,0:24:51.279
well and i never was really a pinball
0:24:48.799,0:24:53.279
person per se right but this would be
0:24:51.279,0:24:55.279
kind of pinball actually requires you to
0:24:53.279,0:24:57.120
have some level of hand-eye coordination
0:24:55.279,0:24:58.400
right right so i was never very good at
0:24:57.120,0:25:00.960
pinball but yeah the
0:24:58.400,0:25:02.799
the idea is that you know it it has the
0:25:00.960,0:25:07.120
side buttons for
0:25:02.799,0:25:09.279
the flippers um the
0:25:07.120,0:25:10.400
the ball the ball the pinball the
0:25:09.279,0:25:12.080
pinball
0:25:10.400,0:25:14.480
you know i don’t know if you actually
0:25:12.080,0:25:16.159
have to pull it out versus just
0:25:14.480,0:25:17.840
hitting it to go because again you’re
0:25:16.159,0:25:18.559
not really pulling it’s just a push
0:25:17.840,0:25:20.640
button there
0:25:18.559,0:25:23.039
right it might just be you know a push
0:25:20.640,0:25:24.880
button so if i get really good at this
0:25:23.039,0:25:26.799
would i be a pinball jedi instead of a
0:25:24.880,0:25:29.919
pinball wizard
0:25:26.799,0:25:31.279
me maybe but it was talking about yeah
0:25:29.919,0:25:32.559
that was kind of lame so
0:25:31.279,0:25:34.720
they were talking about like with the
0:25:32.559,0:25:37.360
screen like having an ad kind of like
0:25:34.720,0:25:38.240
walk across the game board while you’re
0:25:37.360,0:25:40.159
playing you know
0:25:38.240,0:25:42.080
because doing it virtually you know you
0:25:40.159,0:25:45.120
could do so much more right
0:25:42.080,0:25:47.760
you know with the screen so looks cool
0:25:45.120,0:25:49.360
and just looking at the art
0:25:47.760,0:25:52.320
from the picture there it looks like it
0:25:49.360,0:25:55.279
will most likely
0:25:52.320,0:25:56.080
traverse all nine episodes of the war
0:25:55.279,0:26:00.400
saga yeah
0:25:56.080,0:26:02.080
ray on there and kylo ren kylo ren
0:26:00.400,0:26:04.799
storm troopers but then i see the
0:26:02.080,0:26:07.520
classic you know skywalker and emperor
0:26:04.799,0:26:09.440
and right right so you know what
0:26:07.520,0:26:10.960
anything that gets me more star wars
0:26:09.440,0:26:13.520
toys in the house is a good
0:26:10.960,0:26:14.320
thing i am not going to complain about
0:26:13.520,0:26:16.320
that so
0:26:14.320,0:26:18.320
probably not going to be here in time
0:26:16.320,0:26:22.240
for christmas
0:26:18.320,0:26:24.960
no or you know we’ll find a reason
0:26:22.240,0:26:26.400
i don’t need a reasonable no you don’t
0:26:24.960,0:26:29.600
could
0:26:26.400,0:26:32.880
cause it’s star wars yeah
0:26:29.600,0:26:36.240
okay so tell us about
0:26:32.880,0:26:38.080
the high republic redefining the force
0:26:36.240,0:26:42.320
this scares me by the way
0:26:38.080,0:26:46.400
no it’s not it’s not that
0:26:42.320,0:26:49.919
okay um so obviously the high republic
0:26:46.400,0:26:53.520
uh is the new you know uh
0:26:49.919,0:26:54.240
books that are coming out um so the most
0:26:53.520,0:26:56.159
basic
0:26:54.240,0:26:58.640
you know definition of the force was
0:26:56.159,0:27:02.960
given in the very first star wars movie
0:26:58.640,0:27:05.039
back in 1977 um where obi-wan told
0:27:02.960,0:27:06.960
lu skywalker that the force is what
0:27:05.039,0:27:09.600
gives a jedi his power
0:27:06.960,0:27:10.799
it is an energy field created by all
0:27:09.600,0:27:13.360
living things
0:27:10.799,0:27:15.200
it surrounds us it penetrates us it
0:27:13.360,0:27:17.200
binds the galaxy together
0:27:15.200,0:27:18.720
so for decades so it’s like duct tape
0:27:17.200,0:27:21.520
it’s got a dark side of light side that
0:27:18.720,0:27:23.200
binds the galaxy together
0:27:21.520,0:27:24.960
wasn’t there a meme about that or
0:27:23.200,0:27:28.320
something yeah okay
0:27:24.960,0:27:30.960
um so for decades every star wars film
0:27:28.320,0:27:33.360
and tie-in that explores the force has
0:27:30.960,0:27:36.000
really expanded upon that definition
0:27:33.360,0:27:38.159
but it seems the story of the high
0:27:36.000,0:27:38.880
republic will explore how different
0:27:38.159,0:27:41.120
people
0:27:38.880,0:27:43.600
perceive the force differently
0:27:41.120,0:27:45.120
completely redefining our understanding
0:27:43.600,0:27:48.320
of the phenomenon
0:27:45.120,0:27:51.600
so at one of the panels for
0:27:48.320,0:27:51.919
new york comic-con the author of the
0:27:51.600,0:27:54.480
book
0:27:51.919,0:27:56.880
explained the traditional definition is
0:27:54.480,0:27:57.840
actually based on yoda’s perception of
0:27:56.880,0:28:00.399
the force
0:27:57.840,0:28:01.760
and that other jedis perceive the force
0:28:00.399,0:28:03.520
in different ways
0:28:01.760,0:28:05.840
and relate to the force in different
0:28:03.520,0:28:07.440
ways so one of the central characters in
0:28:05.840,0:28:10.480
the novel
0:28:07.440,0:28:14.320
light of the jedi is avar kris
0:28:10.480,0:28:17.679
who experiences the force as music
0:28:14.320,0:28:18.640
she calls uh calls it the song of the
0:28:17.679,0:28:21.520
force
0:28:18.640,0:28:24.240
and so for her all of the different jedi
0:28:21.520,0:28:26.640
have their own tones and instruments
0:28:24.240,0:28:27.760
and it comes together in the great
0:28:26.640,0:28:31.440
symphony
0:28:27.760,0:28:31.919
of um you know and all these beautiful
0:28:31.440,0:28:35.120
things
0:28:31.919,0:28:38.080
are that um she’s able to perceive
0:28:35.120,0:28:39.520
uh so then other characters have again
0:28:38.080,0:28:42.640
different perceptions
0:28:39.520,0:28:44.559
there is a wookie padawan who sees the
0:28:42.640,0:28:47.039
force as a great forest
0:28:44.559,0:28:48.240
and himself as one of the leaves on a
0:28:47.039,0:28:49.840
great tree
0:28:48.240,0:28:52.320
so it’s kind of interesting that
0:28:49.840,0:28:55.440
everybody has their own
0:28:52.320,0:28:57.440
definition of it so
0:28:55.440,0:28:58.640
the high republic novels and gra and
0:28:57.440,0:29:01.840
comics are set
0:28:58.640,0:29:04.960
200 years before the events of star wars
0:29:01.840,0:29:05.679
episode 1 phantom menace so the idea is
0:29:04.960,0:29:07.760
that
0:29:05.679,0:29:08.720
um these different perspectives on the
0:29:07.760,0:29:11.440
force were maybe
0:29:08.720,0:29:12.240
lost over time as yoda became too
0:29:11.440,0:29:15.360
dominant
0:29:12.240,0:29:16.960
as the grand master who counseled others
0:29:15.360,0:29:19.039
and the teachers who taught all the
0:29:16.960,0:29:21.840
padawans how to understand
0:29:19.039,0:29:22.559
the force so that you know maybe it’s
0:29:21.840,0:29:24.799
something where
0:29:22.559,0:29:26.399
the idea of the force and the definition
0:29:24.799,0:29:28.799
of the force kind of
0:29:26.399,0:29:29.600
shifted over time so not necessarily a
0:29:28.799,0:29:32.080
bad thing
0:29:29.600,0:29:33.919
just a different perspective on it well
0:29:32.080,0:29:36.559
and and it’s
0:29:33.919,0:29:37.679
it’s not really a bad thing my concern
0:29:36.559,0:29:39.200
is
0:29:37.679,0:29:41.039
the creative liberties that they’re
0:29:39.200,0:29:43.919
going to give the authors to change what
0:29:41.039,0:29:47.120
we know now that concerns me but
0:29:43.919,0:29:50.000
in the expanded universe they kind of
0:29:47.120,0:29:53.679
explored this type of thing because
0:29:50.000,0:29:55.120
in the later novels the later skywalker
0:29:53.679,0:29:58.559
novels
0:29:55.120,0:30:02.399
i think was the fate of the jedi series
0:29:58.559,0:30:05.760
he goes on this quest
0:30:02.399,0:30:08.480
to learn more about the force
0:30:05.760,0:30:10.159
and he goes to different civilizations
0:30:08.480,0:30:13.760
around the galaxy
0:30:10.159,0:30:16.240
who are force sensitive
0:30:13.760,0:30:18.480
individuals but they’re not jedi they
0:30:16.240,0:30:18.960
perceive the force in different ways and
0:30:18.480,0:30:21.200
he
0:30:18.960,0:30:23.200
learns about the different patterns in
0:30:21.200,0:30:24.640
the forest and stuff like that
0:30:23.200,0:30:26.640
and they kind of touch on that to a
0:30:24.640,0:30:29.520
certain extent in um
0:30:26.640,0:30:31.039
phantom menace with qui-gon and the
0:30:29.520,0:30:34.480
living force being
0:30:31.039,0:30:36.399
a perception of the force so
0:30:34.480,0:30:38.480
they’ve always sort of toyed around with
0:30:36.399,0:30:40.960
this idea that the force means different
0:30:38.480,0:30:44.240
things to different people
0:30:40.960,0:30:45.919
so you know the idea that
0:30:44.240,0:30:47.760
what we know of the force is because
0:30:45.919,0:30:50.080
yoda was 900 years old and
0:30:47.760,0:30:52.399
influenced the jedi and the definition
0:30:50.080,0:30:54.159
of the force for that long
0:30:52.399,0:30:56.000
i could see the storyline going that
0:30:54.159,0:31:00.159
direction and i could see you know
0:30:56.000,0:31:03.440
prior to his becoming a grand master
0:31:00.159,0:31:06.480
you know there were other other
0:31:03.440,0:31:09.360
perspectives um but to me
0:31:06.480,0:31:11.679
what scares me is it you’re almost
0:31:09.360,0:31:14.320
getting political at that point
0:31:11.679,0:31:15.039
so you’re going to get different
0:31:14.320,0:31:16.840
factions
0:31:15.039,0:31:18.080
different perceptions different
0:31:16.840,0:31:20.720
philosophies
0:31:18.080,0:31:22.960
and they’re going to use that as a way
0:31:20.720,0:31:24.000
to tell stories with a political twist
0:31:22.960,0:31:28.399
to it
0:31:24.000,0:31:31.279
and after suffering through you know
0:31:28.399,0:31:32.880
taxation of trade routes in episode one
0:31:31.279,0:31:35.360
the last thing we need to do is inject
0:31:32.880,0:31:37.360
politics into star wars true
0:31:35.360,0:31:39.200
so but all right i’m willing to give it
0:31:37.360,0:31:41.440
a shot you know what any star wars is a
0:31:39.200,0:31:43.600
good star wars until it’s not
0:31:41.440,0:31:47.679
there you go there’s that positive star
0:31:43.600,0:31:49.440
wars attitude that’s about as possible
0:31:47.679,0:31:50.880
so that was all we have for our tales
0:31:49.440,0:31:52.159
for the edge of the galaxy
0:31:50.880,0:32:01.840
we’re going to take a quick break and
0:31:52.159,0:32:01.840
we’ll be back with entertainment news
0:32:01.919,0:32:07.200

0:33:04.320,0:33:10.720
tell us about the loss of a legend
0:33:07.519,0:33:13.840
so this past tuesday
0:33:10.720,0:33:17.279
we lost a a music icon
0:33:13.840,0:33:20.880
um eddie van halen passed away after
0:33:17.279,0:33:23.519
a a battle with with cancer
0:33:20.880,0:33:26.080
uh he’d actually been been suffering for
0:33:23.519,0:33:28.720
for many years and
0:33:26.080,0:33:29.279
you know was getting better and and
0:33:28.720,0:33:32.399
whatnot
0:33:29.279,0:33:35.919
and unfortunately finally passed away uh
0:33:32.399,0:33:36.720
at the age of 65. um his ex-wife valerie
0:33:35.919,0:33:39.679
bernelli
0:33:36.720,0:33:43.200
actually had posted a whole bunch of
0:33:39.679,0:33:46.799
photos and a very touching tribute
0:33:43.200,0:33:49.760
on people magazine actually
0:33:46.799,0:33:52.080
later this this week and some of the
0:33:49.760,0:33:52.799
photos actually date back to when they
0:33:52.080,0:33:56.000
first met
0:33:52.799,0:33:59.279
in 1980 which is amazing
0:33:56.000,0:34:02.399
you know that it was that long ago
0:33:59.279,0:34:05.760
uh when they were they first met um
0:34:02.399,0:34:08.240
you know and then started dating um and
0:34:05.760,0:34:08.800
you know they they were together for you
0:34:08.240,0:34:12.159
know
0:34:08.800,0:34:15.280
a very long time um they actually
0:34:12.159,0:34:18.000
uh were married uh 20 years before they
0:34:15.280,0:34:21.119
actually separated in 2001
0:34:18.000,0:34:22.399
finally getting divorced in 2007 but had
0:34:21.119,0:34:25.599
remained
0:34:22.399,0:34:28.960
very good friends ever since and when
0:34:25.599,0:34:30.720
she remarried he actually went to the
0:34:28.960,0:34:32.639
wedding so they had been on you know
0:34:30.720,0:34:35.679
really good terms since then
0:34:32.639,0:34:37.760
um she said that um
0:34:35.679,0:34:40.240
you know she posted 40 years of my life
0:34:37.760,0:34:43.359
changed forever the day that i met you
0:34:40.240,0:34:46.240
um you gave me the one true light in
0:34:43.359,0:34:48.240
my life our sun wolf gang through your
0:34:46.240,0:34:50.480
challenging treatments for lung cancer
0:34:48.240,0:34:51.760
you kept your courageous spirit and that
0:34:50.480,0:34:54.000
impish grin
0:34:51.760,0:34:55.040
i’m so grateful wolfy and i will be able
0:34:54.000,0:34:58.079
to hold
0:34:55.040,0:34:59.200
hold you in your last moments i will see
0:34:58.079,0:35:02.320
you again in our
0:34:59.200,0:35:02.640
next life my love um they were actually
0:35:02.320,0:35:04.480
both
0:35:02.640,0:35:05.920
at his side when he passed along with
0:35:04.480,0:35:08.960
his current wife
0:35:05.920,0:35:10.720
um and wolfgang was actually the one
0:35:08.960,0:35:13.280
that broke the news
0:35:10.720,0:35:15.440
on twitter he ted said i can’t believe
0:35:13.280,0:35:18.560
i’m having to write this but my father
0:35:15.440,0:35:20.640
edward van halen lost his long battle
0:35:18.560,0:35:23.040
his long and arduous battle with cancer
0:35:20.640,0:35:23.760
this morning he was the best father i
0:35:23.040,0:35:26.640
could
0:35:23.760,0:35:27.200
uh ask for every moment i’ve shared with
0:35:26.640,0:35:29.680
him
0:35:27.200,0:35:31.440
on and off stage was a gift my heart is
0:35:29.680,0:35:32.320
broken and i don’t think i’ll ever
0:35:31.440,0:35:35.280
recove
0:35:32.320,0:35:36.800
recover from this lost he added i love
0:35:35.280,0:35:40.560
you so much pop
0:35:36.800,0:35:43.040
um a source close to van halen
0:35:40.560,0:35:45.119
told people that the guitarist had a
0:35:43.040,0:35:46.400
rapid decline in health over the days
0:35:45.119,0:35:48.240
leading up to his death
0:35:46.400,0:35:49.839
and that the cancer had actually started
0:35:48.240,0:35:54.079
to spread to all of his
0:35:49.839,0:35:56.560
organs so really really sad news and
0:35:54.079,0:35:58.560
one of the other stories that kind of
0:35:56.560,0:36:01.359
came out about this because obviously
0:35:58.560,0:36:02.960
um you know if you’re familiar with you
0:36:01.359,0:36:05.839
know the group van halen
0:36:02.960,0:36:06.720
they obviously went through um you know
0:36:05.839,0:36:09.280
you had
0:36:06.720,0:36:11.280
uh david lee roth as the lead singer
0:36:09.280,0:36:12.000
then they had some issues and then you
0:36:11.280,0:36:14.640
had sammy
0:36:12.000,0:36:15.440
hagar and then they had issues and then
0:36:14.640,0:36:17.920
david
0:36:15.440,0:36:19.280
came back for a little while and whatnot
0:36:17.920,0:36:21.280
and
0:36:19.280,0:36:22.640
there was then actually an article
0:36:21.280,0:36:25.119
article that came out
0:36:22.640,0:36:26.000
uh where sammy hagar was actually
0:36:25.119,0:36:28.720
talking
0:36:26.000,0:36:29.920
that he and eddie had been texting back
0:36:28.720,0:36:33.760
and forth
0:36:29.920,0:36:36.160
for a while um and you know he didn’t
0:36:33.760,0:36:37.520
want to talk about it because he didn’t
0:36:36.160,0:36:38.880
want people to think oh
0:36:37.520,0:36:40.960
they’re coming back there’s going to be
0:36:38.880,0:36:43.680
a reunion tour or anything and
0:36:40.960,0:36:44.800
and they’d you know it was very friendly
0:36:43.680,0:36:48.079
they had worked out
0:36:44.800,0:36:50.160
you know their differences and he said
0:36:48.079,0:36:51.359
about a month ago he stopped hearing
0:36:50.160,0:36:53.599
from him
0:36:51.359,0:36:54.960
sammy had stopped here and so he kind of
0:36:53.599,0:36:57.520
knew
0:36:54.960,0:36:59.599
something was up and then obviously you
0:36:57.520,0:37:01.599
know the news came out so he was
0:36:59.599,0:37:03.280
obviously you know along with you know
0:37:01.599,0:37:06.000
so many other people just
0:37:03.280,0:37:06.720
devastated you know that that he was
0:37:06.000,0:37:09.040
gone
0:37:06.720,0:37:09.839
yeah it’s it’s it’s unfortunate i mean
0:37:09.040,0:37:13.200
cancer is
0:37:09.839,0:37:17.280
you know i lost my father to lung cancer
0:37:13.200,0:37:19.200
when i was 17 it’s
0:37:17.280,0:37:21.920
it kind of hits home you know when you
0:37:19.200,0:37:24.480
see other people suffering from it
0:37:21.920,0:37:26.240
but he was an absolute legend and this
0:37:24.480,0:37:28.720
is why we put memorials at the end of
0:37:26.240,0:37:31.599
the show not the beginning of a segment
0:37:28.720,0:37:32.560
absolutely we went out of order here
0:37:31.599,0:37:35.359
yeah well
0:37:32.560,0:37:36.480
so tell us about some more bad news
0:37:35.359,0:37:39.599
about broadway
0:37:36.480,0:37:41.599
so you know at first when broadway had
0:37:39.599,0:37:42.160
shut down with everything and it looked
0:37:41.599,0:37:45.040
like
0:37:42.160,0:37:46.320
they were hoping to to open you know a
0:37:45.040,0:37:48.560
couple months later
0:37:46.320,0:37:49.680
and then obviously as things went on it
0:37:48.560,0:37:52.960
was looking like
0:37:49.680,0:37:55.359
january might be uh their opening
0:37:52.960,0:37:57.520
but now it looks like broadway is to
0:37:55.359,0:38:01.680
remain closed until at least
0:37:57.520,0:38:05.119
may possibly june of 2021
0:38:01.680,0:38:06.880
uh so you know the they came out and
0:38:05.119,0:38:09.359
made a statement saying
0:38:06.880,0:38:10.560
we literally cannot reopen unless there
0:38:09.359,0:38:12.560
is a confident
0:38:10.560,0:38:14.160
unless there is confidence in the safety
0:38:12.560,0:38:17.200
of the cast and crew
0:38:14.160,0:38:19.119
and theater goers so we don’t really
0:38:17.200,0:38:21.359
know when we will
0:38:19.119,0:38:23.359
when that will be and that is part of
0:38:21.359,0:38:27.040
the challenge that we’re facing
0:38:23.359,0:38:30.839
um the metropolitan opera announced that
0:38:27.040,0:38:34.240
they would be closed until fall of 2021
0:38:30.839,0:38:37.839
so everybody’s kind of on that same
0:38:34.240,0:38:41.359
you know bandwagon of you know just
0:38:37.839,0:38:43.520
not knowing when you know to to open
0:38:41.359,0:38:45.599
um so when broadway closed in march
0:38:43.520,0:38:48.640
there were 31 shows that were running
0:38:45.599,0:38:50.720
including eight that were in previews an
0:38:48.640,0:38:51.280
additional eight shows were scheduled to
0:38:50.720,0:38:54.800
begin
0:38:51.280,0:38:58.160
performances so now nobody knows how
0:38:54.800,0:39:00.320
many shows will actually return
0:38:58.160,0:39:01.280
we do know that frozen will not be
0:39:00.320,0:39:03.440
returning
0:39:01.280,0:39:04.800
i think there was one other show that
0:39:03.440,0:39:06.400
had made an announcement
0:39:04.800,0:39:08.240
months ago saying that they weren’t
0:39:06.400,0:39:09.040
going to be coming back i’m not really
0:39:08.240,0:39:11.920
sure
0:39:09.040,0:39:12.480
um you know because at this point
0:39:11.920,0:39:15.680
there’s
0:39:12.480,0:39:18.079
just no you know
0:39:15.680,0:39:21.200
light at the end of the horizon really
0:39:18.079,0:39:23.119
um you know many industry insiders say
0:39:21.200,0:39:25.520
that they don’t expect broadway to
0:39:23.119,0:39:26.839
return until there’s a vaccine and that
0:39:25.520,0:39:29.040
it’s been safely
0:39:26.839,0:39:30.960
distributed you know maybe it’s
0:39:29.040,0:39:33.680
something that they’ll start
0:39:30.960,0:39:35.040
you know slow maybe just opening up a
0:39:33.680,0:39:37.760
few shows maybe
0:39:35.040,0:39:38.079
with limited amount of people you know
0:39:37.760,0:39:41.520
they
0:39:38.079,0:39:44.560
they really they just don’t know um
0:39:41.520,0:39:46.720
you know what to do it’s hard
0:39:44.560,0:39:48.400
that’s the thing with with theaters and
0:39:46.720,0:39:51.839
with movies
0:39:48.400,0:39:52.640
you know it’s probably the worst
0:39:51.839,0:39:55.119
conditions
0:39:52.640,0:39:56.880
right this type of thing right you’re
0:39:55.119,0:39:59.359
you’re in a confined space you’re in
0:39:56.880,0:40:00.640
recirculating air you’re next to people
0:39:59.359,0:40:03.440
it’s hard to space
0:40:00.640,0:40:04.079
that out right and and really i mean i
0:40:03.440,0:40:07.200
go back
0:40:04.079,0:40:08.960
to uh the movie outbreak you know
0:40:07.200,0:40:10.880
there’s a famous scene in the
0:40:08.960,0:40:12.960
in the movie outbreak where there’s a
0:40:10.880,0:40:14.160
sneeze right dealing with ebola there so
0:40:12.960,0:40:14.800
it’s a different disease altogether
0:40:14.160,0:40:18.319
that’s right it’s
0:40:14.800,0:40:20.240
aerosol and the special effects guys
0:40:18.319,0:40:21.760
really hit home when they show you these
0:40:20.240,0:40:23.680
water droplets come out of someone’s
0:40:21.760,0:40:25.520
face and how they travel around
0:40:23.680,0:40:26.960
now granted that was all special effects
0:40:25.520,0:40:29.599
but that’s literally
0:40:26.960,0:40:30.720
right how these theaters work and no
0:40:29.599,0:40:32.319
matter what you do
0:40:30.720,0:40:35.760
and and the same thing goes for
0:40:32.319,0:40:39.839
airplanes or taxi cabs or anything
0:40:35.760,0:40:41.119
yeah it’s almost impossible to sanitize
0:40:39.839,0:40:44.400
that stuff
0:40:41.119,0:40:45.520
these locations effectively when you
0:40:44.400,0:40:48.560
have something that’s this
0:40:45.520,0:40:51.440
virulent and it hits hard
0:40:48.560,0:40:52.000
on shows like you know things like
0:40:51.440,0:40:54.800
broadway
0:40:52.000,0:40:56.480
plays movies there was a thing where
0:40:54.800,0:40:56.800
cinemark is not going to be reopening
0:40:56.480,0:40:59.440
right
0:40:56.800,0:41:01.119
theaters across the country for several
0:40:59.440,0:41:04.480
months
0:41:01.119,0:41:05.440
it’s it’s devastating stuff it really is
0:41:04.480,0:41:07.680
and i i really
0:41:05.440,0:41:10.000
wish that we had an alternative i wish
0:41:07.680,0:41:13.599
there was a way that we could
0:41:10.000,0:41:16.720
have more shows like hamilton right
0:41:13.599,0:41:19.040
where you could do something or you had
0:41:16.720,0:41:20.400
done something to do of recording a
0:41:19.040,0:41:22.880
production of the show
0:41:20.400,0:41:24.240
right and then at least show that to
0:41:22.880,0:41:26.960
people at home
0:41:24.240,0:41:27.359
and and continue to bring revenue in
0:41:26.960,0:41:30.240
right
0:41:27.359,0:41:31.680
because and and that’s what pbs you know
0:41:30.240,0:41:33.440
was doing over the summer
0:41:31.680,0:41:36.240
we we talked about that they were
0:41:33.440,0:41:39.839
bringing various shows
0:41:36.240,0:41:41.440
um you know available for a week at a
0:41:39.839,0:41:44.640
time or or something
0:41:41.440,0:41:45.119
i could totally see them you know going
0:41:44.640,0:41:47.200
and
0:41:45.119,0:41:48.480
and that’s the thing is how much money
0:41:47.200,0:41:50.880
would it cost to
0:41:48.480,0:41:52.640
to get your cast and your crew together
0:41:50.880,0:41:54.400
to to film something because we know
0:41:52.640,0:41:57.520
with hamilton they did it over
0:41:54.400,0:41:59.280
or even so many days live and
0:41:57.520,0:42:00.880
broadcasting on a schedule
0:41:59.280,0:42:03.200
absolutely and that’s what i was going
0:42:00.880,0:42:06.240
to say do it you know in a way
0:42:03.200,0:42:08.960
where a pay-per-view right you can
0:42:06.240,0:42:10.480
safely keep your crew together right
0:42:08.960,0:42:12.640
we’ve we’ve seen that i mean
0:42:10.480,0:42:14.160
what disney did with the mba proved
0:42:12.640,0:42:16.240
right that you can safely
0:42:14.160,0:42:17.440
quarantine people in large groups and
0:42:16.240,0:42:19.359
not have this problem
0:42:17.440,0:42:21.760
yeah if you could do that in such a way
0:42:19.359,0:42:23.680
they keep your casting crew together
0:42:21.760,0:42:25.599
let them go on stage on a regular
0:42:23.680,0:42:27.680
schedule and then broadcast that even if
0:42:25.599,0:42:29.920
you’re broadcasting it over the internet
0:42:27.680,0:42:31.920
the problem is there’s so many broadway
0:42:29.920,0:42:34.319
shows where it doesn’t translate well
0:42:31.920,0:42:36.240
into that right plus so many broadway
0:42:34.319,0:42:37.839
shows
0:42:36.240,0:42:39.280
it’s not a broadway show if you don’t
0:42:37.839,0:42:41.760
have an audience true
0:42:39.280,0:42:43.520
and it makes it very difficult i have to
0:42:41.760,0:42:44.960
imagine for the actors but certainly for
0:42:43.520,0:42:47.520
the ambiance of the show
0:42:44.960,0:42:48.079
i’m sure but you know what it would at
0:42:47.520,0:42:49.599
least be
0:42:48.079,0:42:51.760
something you know and and it was
0:42:49.599,0:42:54.319
something that a friend of mine
0:42:51.760,0:42:55.760
on facebook had had posted you know
0:42:54.319,0:42:58.880
talking about how
0:42:55.760,0:42:59.680
okay it’s great that all of these sports
0:42:58.880,0:43:03.119
teams are
0:42:59.680,0:43:05.440
able to get back to quote-unquote
0:43:03.119,0:43:07.359
normal you know obviously you can’t go
0:43:05.440,0:43:08.319
in and watch the live sporting event but
0:43:07.359,0:43:10.480
you’re able to go
0:43:08.319,0:43:11.359
and at least you know watch it on your
0:43:10.480,0:43:13.040
television
0:43:11.359,0:43:15.359
how come we haven’t been able to do
0:43:13.040,0:43:17.359
something for the arts
0:43:15.359,0:43:19.119
um you know we know that there have been
0:43:17.359,0:43:20.560
a couple of concerts that they’ve been
0:43:19.119,0:43:22.480
doing in a couple of
0:43:20.560,0:43:23.760
comedy shows that they’ve been doing
0:43:22.480,0:43:25.280
where um
0:43:23.760,0:43:27.280
you know if you go and you watch it
0:43:25.280,0:43:28.000
you’re in your car and you stay in your
0:43:27.280,0:43:30.480
car
0:43:28.000,0:43:31.119
um you know so we kind of need to see
0:43:30.480,0:43:34.160
more
0:43:31.119,0:43:37.520
of of that kind of stuff or
0:43:34.160,0:43:40.240
you know do it online where people
0:43:37.520,0:43:42.319
you know pay 20 bucks 30 bucks to be
0:43:40.240,0:43:44.880
able to watch you know a broadway show
0:43:42.319,0:43:46.720
i know a couple of weeks back uh you
0:43:44.880,0:43:48.720
know we were talking because nbc i think
0:43:46.720,0:43:52.400
was going to be doing some sort of
0:43:48.720,0:43:55.760
broadway special uh to kind of help
0:43:52.400,0:43:57.359
uh you know the the broadway stars out
0:43:55.760,0:44:00.000
but so many of the broadway stars
0:43:57.359,0:44:01.520
haven’t performed in so many months so
0:44:00.000,0:44:04.800
the idea that they’d even
0:44:01.520,0:44:06.640
be up to performing
0:44:04.800,0:44:08.000
was going to take them a while and some
0:44:06.640,0:44:10.880
might not even fit in some of their
0:44:08.000,0:44:12.160
costumes because they’ve been home um
0:44:10.880,0:44:15.760
you know so you figure
0:44:12.160,0:44:16.400
hey if you get started now hey let’s try
0:44:15.760,0:44:19.920
within
0:44:16.400,0:44:22.560
you know two months to put something on
0:44:19.920,0:44:24.400
where we can broadcast it let’s start
0:44:22.560,0:44:26.000
now let’s start doing rehearsals let’s
0:44:24.400,0:44:28.960
start quarantining
0:44:26.000,0:44:30.560
everybody in a little bubble and and you
0:44:28.960,0:44:33.200
know get things going because
0:44:30.560,0:44:34.240
you know there are tv productions that
0:44:33.200,0:44:36.960
are are starting
0:44:34.240,0:44:38.720
that have started back up um you know
0:44:36.960,0:44:41.760
for various network shows and
0:44:38.720,0:44:45.359
and things um certain movies are
0:44:41.760,0:44:48.400
going back so why not the broadway show
0:44:45.359,0:44:51.280
just doing it differently to perform
0:44:48.400,0:44:52.160
you know for others so well give us some
0:44:51.280,0:44:54.560
good news
0:44:52.160,0:44:56.000
from new york comic con because we need
0:44:54.560,0:44:58.880
to we need to
0:44:56.000,0:45:00.880
get back on track here so new york comic
0:44:58.880,0:45:01.839
con as we’ve been talking about has gone
0:45:00.880,0:45:05.599
digital for
0:45:01.839,0:45:07.280
this year um so it’s you know very
0:45:05.599,0:45:10.400
different obviously over
0:45:07.280,0:45:11.599
previous years but it still you know has
0:45:10.400,0:45:15.200
a lot with film
0:45:11.599,0:45:17.359
tv comic book news and obviously
0:45:15.200,0:45:19.119
this year’s been very difficult for the
0:45:17.359,0:45:22.560
entertainment industry
0:45:19.119,0:45:23.359
you know on a whole um so obviously
0:45:22.560,0:45:26.480
they’ve had
0:45:23.359,0:45:27.680
you know some mixed success with doing
0:45:26.480,0:45:30.880
things virtually
0:45:27.680,0:45:34.240
uh so dc fandom
0:45:30.880,0:45:37.280
uh you know kind of did pretty well
0:45:34.240,0:45:39.280
but then san diego comic-con was kind of
0:45:37.280,0:45:41.119
a disappointment there you know
0:45:39.280,0:45:43.200
we were kind of really looking forward
0:45:41.119,0:45:44.800
to it being that we’ve never been able
0:45:43.200,0:45:48.480
to go to comic-con
0:45:44.800,0:45:50.240
uh or uh san diego and
0:45:48.480,0:45:52.560
they were really only you know it wasn’t
0:45:50.240,0:45:56.480
horrible there were a couple
0:45:52.560,0:45:59.680
um panels that we did watch and you know
0:45:56.480,0:46:00.319
overall it was okay um but it seemed
0:45:59.680,0:46:02.960
that
0:46:00.319,0:46:04.400
new york is kind of gonna blow it away
0:46:02.960,0:46:08.000
it seems like they have
0:46:04.400,0:46:10.640
a lot more content um you know for
0:46:08.000,0:46:12.839
for all the different areas um between
0:46:10.640,0:46:16.160
movies television
0:46:12.839,0:46:18.720
gaming um you know and
0:46:16.160,0:46:19.920
and you know just a lot more panels out
0:46:18.720,0:46:21.760
there
0:46:19.920,0:46:24.240
so you can actually watch all of the
0:46:21.760,0:46:27.400
panels on their youtube channel
0:46:24.240,0:46:31.200
at youtube.com backslash
0:46:27.400,0:46:34.560
nycc um the schedule
0:46:31.200,0:46:37.760
actually runs from november 8th to
0:46:34.560,0:46:40.720
the 11th so we’re and day three
0:46:37.760,0:46:42.000
of it right now but what’s nice is that
0:46:40.720,0:46:44.480
all of
0:46:42.000,0:46:45.839
the panels are being archived so that
0:46:44.480,0:46:48.400
you can watch them
0:46:45.839,0:46:51.040
at your leisure so um you know they’ll
0:46:48.400,0:46:54.079
be up for a while so you can go back
0:46:51.040,0:46:56.160
and and catch um
0:46:54.079,0:46:57.920
uh you know ones that you’ve missed
0:46:56.160,0:46:58.960
because i know we haven’t actually sat
0:46:57.920,0:47:01.680
down to
0:46:58.960,0:47:03.839
to watch any of them but obviously the
0:47:01.680,0:47:04.319
the star wars one had happened with the
0:47:03.839,0:47:06.480
high
0:47:04.319,0:47:09.040
uh republic there was one about the
0:47:06.480,0:47:12.480
expanse there was a doctor who won
0:47:09.040,0:47:15.440
um so there was a walking dead one
0:47:12.480,0:47:17.839
that was uh two days worth uh so
0:47:15.440,0:47:18.560
obviously we have a lot to to watch uh
0:47:17.839,0:47:21.280
tomorrow
0:47:18.560,0:47:22.720
uh what’s neat is if you go to the
0:47:21.280,0:47:25.839
website
0:47:22.720,0:47:27.599
that was actually screenrant.com new
0:47:25.839,0:47:31.040
york comic-con
0:47:27.599,0:47:33.680
2020 they had a really good guide uh
0:47:31.040,0:47:36.400
set up so they had um one that was set
0:47:33.680,0:47:38.559
up for all the different movie panels
0:47:36.400,0:47:41.680
um they actually had one that was dc
0:47:38.559,0:47:44.880
comic book movies and television shows
0:47:41.680,0:47:48.800
uh they had a marvel setup
0:47:44.880,0:47:51.599
sci-fi and fantasy tv horror tv
0:47:48.800,0:47:52.000
comic books and even tabletop and video
0:47:51.599,0:47:55.040
games
0:47:52.000,0:47:57.680
so they had a nice uh you know
0:47:55.040,0:47:59.119
set up for for everything so we haven’t
0:47:57.680,0:47:59.599
like i said we haven’t had a chance to
0:47:59.119,0:48:01.680
really
0:47:59.599,0:48:02.640
go through and watch any but i think
0:48:01.680,0:48:03.920
there’s
0:48:02.640,0:48:06.319
we’re going to be sitting for a couple
0:48:03.920,0:48:07.280
of hours going through and i think there
0:48:06.319,0:48:09.520
was even
0:48:07.280,0:48:11.440
excuse me merchandise that you could you
0:48:09.520,0:48:12.240
know purchase as well i think one of the
0:48:11.440,0:48:13.760
things i saw
0:48:12.240,0:48:15.599
i think it was only like eight dollars
0:48:13.760,0:48:17.599
but it was like a badge um
0:48:15.599,0:48:20.000
because they were talk uh new york
0:48:17.599,0:48:23.119
comic-con was being called the metaverse
0:48:20.000,0:48:24.640
um so it had like a little badge of you
0:48:23.119,0:48:25.440
know that i went to metaverse or
0:48:24.640,0:48:28.480
something so
0:48:25.440,0:48:30.800
kind of cool well we’ll be
0:48:28.480,0:48:35.280
back in just a minute with uh our
0:48:30.800,0:48:37.359
insightful picks of the week
0:48:35.280,0:48:41.359
[Applause]
0:48:37.359,0:48:43.440
joe for your insightful pick of the week
0:48:41.359,0:48:44.400
so my insightful pick of the week
0:48:43.440,0:48:47.839
happens to be
0:48:44.400,0:48:49.200
a board game that somebody got me for
0:48:47.839,0:48:51.040
our
0:48:49.200,0:48:52.319
pre-anniversary because our anniversary
0:48:51.040,0:48:55.359
hasn’t happened yet
0:48:52.319,0:48:56.720
um and this was actually something that
0:48:55.359,0:48:58.960
we talked about
0:48:56.720,0:49:00.079
a couple months ago when we found out
0:48:58.960,0:49:02.319
that this was going to be
0:49:00.079,0:49:03.119
coming out i was obviously very excited
0:49:02.319,0:49:06.480
about it
0:49:03.119,0:49:09.680
and now it’s here and it’s
0:49:06.480,0:49:11.599
the haunted mansion call of the spirits
0:49:09.680,0:49:14.960
game by funko games
0:49:11.599,0:49:16.240
um really cute game it was a little
0:49:14.960,0:49:19.359
confusing
0:49:16.240,0:49:20.960
um because it’s a little complex when
0:49:19.359,0:49:23.280
when you first start out because there’s
0:49:20.960,0:49:26.400
all these different
0:49:23.280,0:49:28.480
moving parts really um with it but what
0:49:26.400,0:49:30.559
was really cool was the directions
0:49:28.480,0:49:32.880
you know they’re long but they’re very
0:49:30.559,0:49:33.839
precise they give you examples at the
0:49:32.880,0:49:35.200
end of things
0:49:33.839,0:49:36.880
and the other thing that was cool was
0:49:35.200,0:49:40.079
they actually had a
0:49:36.880,0:49:42.400
uh youtube video that you could go to
0:49:40.079,0:49:44.640
that they kind of walk you through
0:49:42.400,0:49:46.240
the game as well so that that kind of
0:49:44.640,0:49:47.760
helped because you know it’s one of
0:49:46.240,0:49:49.440
those things where you know you read the
0:49:47.760,0:49:52.480
directions on a game you’re like
0:49:49.440,0:49:53.599
huh let’s just start playing and try and
0:49:52.480,0:49:57.119
figure it out
0:49:53.599,0:49:59.200
um it’s uh for two to six players
0:49:57.119,0:50:00.160
um and depending on how many players of
0:49:59.200,0:50:02.000
the game
0:50:00.160,0:50:04.640
kind of determines the the length of the
0:50:02.000,0:50:07.040
game i guess it was about half an hour
0:50:04.640,0:50:08.800
that it took us to play kind of reminded
0:50:07.040,0:50:11.599
me a little bit of clue
0:50:08.800,0:50:13.359
a little bit of monopoly kind of you
0:50:11.599,0:50:16.480
know put in together
0:50:13.359,0:50:17.839
the artwork is beautiful you know our
0:50:16.480,0:50:20.720
daughter even
0:50:17.839,0:50:21.920
you know commented on you know how
0:50:20.720,0:50:25.520
spectacular the
0:50:21.920,0:50:28.240
the artwork was um you have 99
0:50:25.520,0:50:28.720
ghost cards so that was really cool to
0:50:28.240,0:50:30.960
see
0:50:28.720,0:50:32.559
you know the the artwork of the ghost
0:50:30.960,0:50:34.559
and the idea is that you’re kind of
0:50:32.559,0:50:37.200
moving around the haunted mansion trying
0:50:34.559,0:50:40.559
to collect as many ghosts as you can
0:50:37.200,0:50:41.440
until the final round of the game
0:50:40.559,0:50:43.920
happens
0:50:41.440,0:50:45.599
and then at the end depending on how
0:50:43.920,0:50:49.119
haunted you got
0:50:45.599,0:50:50.240
um determines how many of the ghosts you
0:50:49.119,0:50:52.720
get to keep
0:50:50.240,0:50:54.720
and then if you get to keep all your
0:50:52.720,0:50:57.280
ghosts whoever has the highest goat
0:50:54.720,0:50:58.880
ghost count wins um one of the things
0:50:57.280,0:51:02.160
that we didn’t even do was
0:50:58.880,0:51:03.760
the the duels to try and get
0:51:02.160,0:51:05.920
you know different cards from from
0:51:03.760,0:51:08.640
different people we left that part
0:51:05.920,0:51:09.280
out and we still had you know a really
0:51:08.640,0:51:12.960
good time
0:51:09.280,0:51:14.800
and madison ended up winning the game
0:51:12.960,0:51:16.400
you know the first first time out so i
0:51:14.800,0:51:18.640
think it’s definitely something
0:51:16.400,0:51:20.000
um you know that will definitely play
0:51:18.640,0:51:22.000
again and again
0:51:20.000,0:51:23.599
you know half hour game so it wasn’t
0:51:22.000,0:51:27.280
like a monopoly of
0:51:23.599,0:51:29.839
you know five day long marathon you know
0:51:27.280,0:51:30.720
so i think we’ll get better you know
0:51:29.839,0:51:36.540
with it as
0:51:30.720,0:51:37.780
we go along so good pick thank you
0:51:36.540,0:51:39.119
[Applause]
0:51:37.780,0:51:42.559
[Music]
0:51:39.119,0:51:46.400
so my pick uh as promised last week
0:51:42.559,0:51:48.160
is star wars squadrons not a documentary
0:51:46.400,0:51:49.760
although i probably could do a doc i was
0:51:48.160,0:51:52.559
going to say why don’t we film
0:51:49.760,0:51:54.160
film you play and get into it um so star
0:51:52.559,0:51:56.319
wars squadrons is a game that came out
0:51:54.160,0:52:01.200
recently i have it on both pc
0:51:56.319,0:52:03.359
and on uh console uh it’s from ea games
0:52:01.200,0:52:04.319
and uh they say buckle up feel the
0:52:03.359,0:52:07.040
adrenaline of
0:52:04.319,0:52:09.119
first person multiplayer dog fights
0:52:07.040,0:52:11.359
alongside your squadron
0:52:09.119,0:52:12.480
and take off in a thrilling star wars
0:52:11.359,0:52:15.599
story
0:52:12.480,0:52:19.040
pilots will triumph as a team across
0:52:15.599,0:52:22.079
known and never before seen battlefields
0:52:19.040,0:52:25.200
including the gas giant of yavin prime
0:52:22.079,0:52:27.119
and the shattered moon of galatan
0:52:25.200,0:52:28.880
take full control of different
0:52:27.119,0:52:31.359
starfighter classes
0:52:28.880,0:52:32.960
from both the new republic and imperial
0:52:31.359,0:52:36.160
fleets such as the x-wing
0:52:32.960,0:52:40.000
and tie fighter compete with intense
0:52:36.160,0:52:42.240
intensive 5v5 dogfights
0:52:40.000,0:52:43.440
unite with your squadron to tip the
0:52:42.240,0:52:46.079
scales
0:52:43.440,0:52:46.640
in monumental battles and experience a
0:52:46.079,0:52:49.839
unique
0:52:46.640,0:52:51.760
star wars story so total disclaimer
0:52:49.839,0:52:53.119
i ran into problems technical problems
0:52:51.760,0:52:56.000
on the pc with
0:52:53.119,0:52:57.839
story right uh i couldn’t get past
0:52:56.000,0:53:01.119
chapter two i haven’t really gone
0:52:57.839,0:53:02.640
back and tried that i’ll probably play
0:53:01.119,0:53:04.480
through the story on
0:53:02.640,0:53:06.240
the the console because it seems to be
0:53:04.480,0:53:09.839
working fine there
0:53:06.240,0:53:12.640
but i have been so impressed
0:53:09.839,0:53:14.559
with the the player verse player aspect
0:53:12.640,0:53:18.000
of the game playing ranked
0:53:14.559,0:53:18.000
starfighter battles
0:53:18.319,0:53:27.680
the the graphics the imagery the physics
0:53:22.720,0:53:31.280
the overall gameplay itself
0:53:27.680,0:53:33.680
it’s just it’s totally immersive
0:53:31.280,0:53:34.559
the level of realism involved in the
0:53:33.680,0:53:36.880
game
0:53:34.559,0:53:37.839
the controls themselves i mean i happen
0:53:36.880,0:53:40.880
to be using a
0:53:37.839,0:53:43.119
a uh xbox one controller on the pc to
0:53:40.880,0:53:44.640
play and i play primarily on the pc
0:53:43.119,0:53:47.599
right now
0:53:44.640,0:53:49.839
just because i have three gaming
0:53:47.599,0:53:51.200
monitors that i can play it on so it’s a
0:53:49.839,0:53:54.319
very different experience than playing
0:53:51.200,0:53:57.440
it on a 65 inch tv
0:53:54.319,0:53:58.240
but very happy with it i was a huge fan
0:53:57.440,0:54:00.640
years ago
0:53:58.240,0:54:02.720
of the x-wing series an x-wing vs tie
0:54:00.640,0:54:05.839
fighter
0:54:02.720,0:54:09.119
you have the concept of ranking up you
0:54:05.839,0:54:11.680
have the concept of earning
0:54:09.119,0:54:12.640
currency in game and that currency
0:54:11.680,0:54:16.079
allows you to
0:54:12.640,0:54:18.880
buy equipment
0:54:16.079,0:54:20.559
for your star fighters each you have
0:54:18.880,0:54:23.599
four starfighter classes in
0:54:20.559,0:54:24.000
on each side and you can buy new
0:54:23.599,0:54:26.400
equipment
0:54:24.000,0:54:28.480
for them and it’s not a pay-to-win type
0:54:26.400,0:54:30.640
situation a lot of people criticize
0:54:28.480,0:54:32.160
some previous ea games with battlefront
0:54:30.640,0:54:34.240
and stuff like that
0:54:32.160,0:54:35.200
where there was a pay to win aspect
0:54:34.240,0:54:38.079
everything that you
0:54:35.200,0:54:39.040
buy for your starfighters appears to
0:54:38.079,0:54:41.839
have
0:54:39.040,0:54:43.520
positives and negative so you can’t be
0:54:41.839,0:54:46.400
super powerful but it really
0:54:43.520,0:54:47.760
caters to different play styles you
0:54:46.400,0:54:49.440
might want to be more offensive you
0:54:47.760,0:54:51.359
might want to be more defensive but
0:54:49.440,0:54:53.119
everything that you stick on your ship
0:54:51.359,0:54:55.440
has some negative effects somewhere so
0:54:53.119,0:54:58.559
you’re not overly powerful
0:54:55.440,0:55:00.720
you also have the ability to earn
0:54:58.559,0:55:01.680
valor which allows you to spend those
0:55:00.720,0:55:03.920
points
0:55:01.680,0:55:05.200
to customize your ship you can make it
0:55:03.920,0:55:07.599
look different
0:55:05.200,0:55:09.280
you can um one of the things that’s
0:55:07.599,0:55:11.839
really funny is you can get dashboard
0:55:09.280,0:55:13.680
art okay you can get a little ewok that
0:55:11.839,0:55:15.280
you can stick on your dashboard in your
0:55:13.680,0:55:17.440
fighter you can get diced it you can
0:55:15.280,0:55:18.799
hang from the window
0:55:17.440,0:55:20.640
there’s all these really cool little
0:55:18.799,0:55:22.160
customizations to make it look like
0:55:20.640,0:55:24.960
yours and you can do the same thing with
0:55:22.160,0:55:27.119
your pilot and change your uniforms and
0:55:24.960,0:55:28.160
and your helmets and and everything else
0:55:27.119,0:55:30.240
so it’s
0:55:28.160,0:55:31.760
it’s a very well made game it’s very
0:55:30.240,0:55:35.200
well-rounded
0:55:31.760,0:55:39.599
plays fast uh the the
0:55:35.200,0:55:42.240
star starfleet battles themselves are
0:55:39.599,0:55:44.640
vibrant i mean it’s just it’s incredible
0:55:42.240,0:55:46.319
the level of detail that you have
0:55:44.640,0:55:50.000
it it look it looks like you’re watching
0:55:46.319,0:55:52.880
a movie it’s it’s that realistic
0:55:50.000,0:55:54.559
and so far the gaming community that
0:55:52.880,0:55:55.599
i’ve been playing with has has been very
0:55:54.559,0:55:58.319
good
0:55:55.599,0:55:58.640
that’s always that’s always a concern
0:55:58.319,0:56:00.480
but
0:55:58.640,0:56:02.319
very happy with it i still have to play
0:56:00.480,0:56:05.680
through the storyline
0:56:02.319,0:56:09.599
but i highly recommend it’s 39 so it’s
0:56:05.680,0:56:12.559
it’s inexpensive as far as games go
0:56:09.599,0:56:13.200
uh for pc or console so it’s definitely
0:56:12.559,0:56:16.400
worth
0:56:13.200,0:56:20.580
worth a look that’s star wars squadrons
0:56:16.400,0:56:24.640
by ea games and we’ll be back
0:56:20.580,0:56:27.680
[Applause]
0:56:24.640,0:56:30.079
so i think that was all we had did we
0:56:27.680,0:56:32.640
have any afterthoughts for today
0:56:30.079,0:56:34.400
no i don’t think so no afterthoughts so
0:56:32.640,0:56:37.200
we’re not thinking all that much today
0:56:34.400,0:56:37.920
okay it’s been a long day i’m okay with
0:56:37.200,0:56:39.920
that
0:56:37.920,0:56:41.760
uh before we do go i do want to nag
