- Disney World and Rivals Shift Into Survival Mode
- https://www.fool.com/investing/2020/09/12/disney-world-and-rivals-shift-into-survival-mode/
- https://bit.ly/3hsDPOA
- With a reasonably busy Labor Day holiday weekend fading in the rearview mirror, Central Florida’s theme parks are starting to hunker down again. Walt Disney (NYSE:DIS) trimmed the operating hours at its four theme parks on Tuesday. Last month, Universal Orlando parent Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCS.A) temporarily closed two of its on-site hotels and six of its least popular theme park attractions ahead of this seasonally slow time of the year.
- Even SeaWorld Entertainment (NYSE:SEAS) — the outlier of the bunch that has taunted its larger rivals by offering holiday fireworks and longer hours — is paring back a little bit. SeaWorld Orlando is closing two hours earlier this weekend than it did last weekend.
- None of these companies turned a profit at their theme parks this summer, and they aren’t going to fare any better now that kids are back in school. Without the big-ticket Halloween events at Disney and Universal that typically save autumn from an even worse fate, the next few months will be rough. With initial hopes of a pandemic-licking vaccine out as early as late October dimming quickly, the industry is bracing for a challenging climate even after getting through the thorny reopening process in June and July of this year. Disney, Comcast, and SeaWorld Entertainment will make it out alive, but nothing comes easy at this point.
- Florida itself is taking another shot at reopening its economy as a second surge in COVID-19 cases subsides. Businesses have started to reopen, and come Monday bars will be able to legally entertain guests again — with social distancing norms in place and capacity limited to 50%. Earlier this month Florida Governor Ron DeSantis even hinted at lifting capacity restrictions for theme parks altogether. That may seem encouraging for shareholders and folks working in the amusements industry, but some things you can’t fix with the stroke of a pen.
- COVID-19 is still a threat, and that will hold the industry back in a few ways. For starters, it will keep many visitors — particularly lucrative out-of-state tourists — away. There hasn’t been a single major outbreak tied to Central Florida’s theme parks since they started to let guests back in more than three months ago, but it’s hard for some to justify taking a chance with the country’s pandemic death toll now approaching 200,000. The other coronavirus-related setback is that until the pandemic is eradicated, guests will likely have to continue to wear face coverings, and since ride capacity will be limited, visitors will have to space out within vehicles.
- We also can’t ignore the pesky global recession that is also pinching the state’s economy. A lot of people — including furloughed and laid-off theme park employees — are still out of work. Folks are still hungry to get out of the house, but with movie theaters starting to open last month and bars opening up next week, there are cheaper forms of escapism now available.
- The good news is that the major theme park operators aren’t going away anytime soon. Disney and Comcast have much larger media businesses that are picking up some slack for their struggling theme park and movie studio businesses. Disney and Comcast will turn out healthy overall profits this year. SeaWorld Entertainment isn’t as fortunate. It has all of its eggs in the same aquarium. This could also be why it’s more willing than its larger competitors to take chances, like hosting boozy weekend festivals that run well past dusk.
- The peak summer travel season is over, and it wasn’t much to write home about. Autumn won’t be pretty, and things could get uglier fast if a third surge in COVID-19 cases materializes across the state. It’s not business as usual; it’s business as unusual. But for now it will have to do for the three leading players as they bridge their way out of the new normal.
- This Hollywood Studios Attraction may be Closed Forever

- When Disney World reopened, almost every aspect of the park experience was changed. Character meet and greets disappeared, FastPasses vanished, and social distancing and masks became the norm.
- Not only that, but stage shows have not returned to the parks yet either. Due to the ongoing battle between the Actor’s Equity Association and Disney, performers have not been called back to work.
- However, some shows have been modified like UP! A Great Bird Adventure or the Disney Junior Play and Dance. Other shows, like the Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage have been temporarily replaced with other entertainment.
- After being opened for over 30 years as an attraction at Hollywood Studios, Voyage of the Little Mermaid did not reopen with the park.
- Additionally, there were no clear markings of social distancing on the ground outside of the attraction. Many wondered if this was the end of the sea for this particular attraction.
- Recently, the show’s billboard has been removed from the side of the theater. The theater is located inside the Animation Courtyard.
- As on now, all that shows on the facade is the metal framework that once held the billboard.
- Additionally, we have not heard an official announcement from Disney regarding its rumored permanent closure.

- OBI-WAN KENOBI Star Ewan McGregor On The Legacy Of The Prequels And Excitement For The Disney+ Series

- Obi-Wan Kenobi is shaping up to be one of the best original series on its way to Disney+, and in a recent interview, Ewan McGregor agreed that the show has been “a long time coming.” The last time he played the Jedi Master was in 2005’s Revenge of the Sith, and it sounds like he’s more excited for this than either that or when he reprised the role in Attack of the Clones.
- “I’m more excited about doing this one than I was doing the second and third one that we did before,” he revealed. “I’m just excited about working with Deborah Chow [director, who also directed episodes of The Mandalorian], and the storylines are going to be really good I think. I’m just excited to play him again. It’s been long enough since I played him before.”
- McGregor later expressed an interest in getting to try out “The Volume,” groundbreaking VFX technology first utilised by The Mandalorian. After reflecting on what things were like working on the Star Wars prequels, he added: “Now we’re going to be able to really create stuff without swathes of green-screen and blue-screen, which becomes very tedious for the actor.”
- Talking of that trilogy, McGregor admitted that they weren’t necessarily the best movies, but revealed how much love they get from fans who were children when they were released from 1999 – 2005.
- “You know, our films weren’t much liked when they came out, by my generation who loved the first ones,” he recalls. “I think people of our generation wanted to feel the way they’d felt when they saw those first three movies when they were kids, and George [Lucas] wanted to take our ones in a different direction, he had a different idea. It was tricky at the time, I remember.”
- “But now, all these years later, I’m really aware of what our films meant to the generation they were made for, the children of that time. They really like them,” McGregor continued. “I’ve met people who, they mean a lot to them, those films, more so than the original three, and I’m like, ‘Are you kidding?’”
- Star Wars: Daisy Ridley Said They Were “Toying” With Rey Being Obi-Wan’s Granddaughter
- https://comicbook.com/movies/news/star-wars-daisy-ridley-confirms-obi-wan-family-connection-talks/
- https://bit.ly/2GW35QW
- One of the lingering questions heading into Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was the true identity of Daisy Ridley’s Rey. As teased in the two previous flicks, her heritage was a “nobody,” per se — nothing but a child of intergalactic junkers. Then Episode IX and turned that notion on its head as it was revealed Rey was, in fact, the granddaughter of Emperor Palpatine. As Ridley herself says, it wasn’t always that way.
- In fact, there was one point in the development of the sequel trilogy that Rey was going to be a descendent of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s. That was eventually tossed out as the Lucasfilm Story Group continued working on the arc they wanted to implement throughout the three features. The other night, Ridley appeared alongside frequent collaborator Josh Gad on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where she spilled the details.
- “No, at the beginning they were toying with an Obi-Wan connection,” Ridley said of the dangling plot thread. “There were different versions and at one point she was no one… it kept changing.”
- Turning Rey into a Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) left many Star Wars fans scratching their heads after the reveal as they wondered how the character could have survived the events of Return of the Jedi. According to McDiarmid, he wanted to put a line in Rise of the Skywalker to make it a little more clear.
- “The cloning thing? Yes. Well, of course, there were all sorts of explanations for why I might return,” McDiarmid told the crowd at Comic Con Brussels earlier this year. “But it’s interesting because, I think I can reveal something, at one point the script had the line in that first scene with [Kylo Ren actor] Adam [Driver], when he says, ‘You’re a clone,’ and I said, in that original script, which is no longer with us, ‘More than a clone. Less than a man.’ Which seemed, to me, to sum him up, really. Because we know the camera has already snaked past the clone tank in which there are various versions of Snoke, that you probably noticed.”

- The end is nigh for The Walking Dead, sort of.
- The zombie apocalypse series based on Robert Kirkman’s comics is coming to an end in 2022 with an expanded 11th season.
- However, fans of the once highest rated show on the small screen shouldn’t fret too much at the loss of the mother show. AMC has already given the go-ahead to a new TWD spinoff starring fan favorites Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride in their roles as Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier. Created by TWD showrunner Angela Kang and Deadverse chief content officer Scott M. Gimple, that as yet untitled series is scheduled to debut in 2023.
- As was announced at this year’s coronavirus induced virtual Comic-Con, the pandemic delayed TWD Season 10 finale will now air as a special episode on October 4 with 10 additional episodes to air in 2021 for the current cycle. Tearing a page out of the playbook that AMC used for the end of Mad Men and Breaking Bad, the 11th and final season of the once blockbuster TWD will run over two-years for a grand total of 24 episodes.
- “It’s been ten years ‘gone bye;’ what lies ahead are two more to come and stories and stories to tell beyond that,” said Gimple of the show that debuted on Halloween 2010.
- “I look forward to digging in with our brilliant writers, producers, directors, cast and crew to bring this epic final chapter of Robert Kirkman’s story to life for our fans over the next two years,” said Kang, who took over as TWD showrunner from Gimple at the start of Season 9. “The Walking Dead flagship series has been my creative home for a decade and so it’s bittersweet to bring it to an end, but I could not be more excited to be working with Scott Gimple and AMC to develop a new series for Daryl and Carol,” the EP added. “Working with Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride has been a highlight of my career and I’m thrilled that we get to keep telling stories together.”
- In addition to the upcoming Daryl and Carol series current spinoffs Fear the Walking Dead, starting its sixth season on October 11, and the October 4th premiering YA two-season long The Walking Dead: World Beyond, AMC and Gimple are developing a Tales of The Walking Dead anthology series. Episodic in format, Tales will likely focus on individual characters from the clearly expanding Deadverse, both new and old.
- More TWD shows are in various stages of discussion too, I hear, though no indication that a Negan or Maggie Rheee series is one of them. Having exited TWD in 2018 for the broadcast network heights of ABC’s short lived Whiskey Cavalier, Lauren Cohan is returning as Maggie to TWD for the remainder of the Kirkman and Gale Anne Hurd EP’d show’s 10th and probably 11th season. The Jeffrey Dean Morgan portrayed Negan has shifted this current season from his murderous villain role to more of an elder statesman of the Survivors, a ripe move to a spinoff of his own perhaps. It is worth noting that besides a recently published Negan solo comic, Morgan and spouse Hilarie Burton hosted the TWD cast heavy six-episode virtual talkshow Friday Night in with the Morgans this summer on AMC.
- Plus, with all that, there are still the trio of Rick Grimes big screen adventures, starring Andrew Lincoln, which are in the script stage at Universal.
- In many ways, even as the series continues to be the biggest thing on AMC, the conclusion of TWD proper makes sense. For one thing, off-screen Kirkman suddenly wrapped up the TWD comics after 193 issues in 2019.
- On-screen, leading man Lincoln left two years ago and now Marvel Universe regular Danai Gurira headed off stage, so to speak, in March of this year. While the door was never fully closed on Gurira’s Michonne character, who went looking for Grimes after the wounded one-time Sheriff’s Deputy was spirited off by a mysterious helicopter in the fifth episode of Season 9, it seemed pretty clear that the focus of the series had shifted to CAA repped Reedus and UTA repped McBride’s characters – even more so with both actors inking lucrative new contracts in recent years.

- Love on the Spectrum is an Australian reality television show produced by Northern Pictures for the ABC[1], and currently available to stream on Netflix.[2][3]
- Seven young adults on the autism spectrum dive headfirst into the dating pool, exploring the unpredictable world of love and relationships.
- When “Love on the Spectrum” first aired in Australia, it was promoted with a glamorous photo shoot: sleek black suits, floor-length gowns, a single rose. It strategically resembled the key art of the dating reality shows that have dominated pop culture for nearly 20 years.
- “We thought, why not represent these people in their best light, just like every other series does?” director and creator Cian O’Clery told The Times. “The fact that people have a disability or condition shouldn’t affect the way we represent them.”
- That’s just about the only resemblance that the heartwarming docuseries, which is now streaming on Netflix, bears to shows like “The Bachelor.” It centers on people on the autism spectrum as they venture into the world of dating — a premise that debunks the long-believed myth that the neurodiverse community is not interested in intimacy or romance.
- “Look, it’s not for everybody, which is the case in the general population as well,” said Jodi Rodgers, a relationship specialist for people with autism. “But what I’ve found is that once people on the spectrum hit adolescence and early adulthood, they desperately want those relationships. The difficulties they’ve had weren’t for lack of warmth but the complex social skills needed to develop and maintain those relationships.”

- Thirty years after their final confrontation at the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, Johnny Lawrence is at rock-bottom as an unemployed handyman haunted by his wasted life. However, when Johnny rescues a bullied kid, Miguel, from bullies, he is inspired to restart the notorious Cobra Kai dojo. However, this revitalization of his life and related misunderstandings find Johnny restarting his old rivalry with Daniel LaRousso, a successful businessman who may be happily married, but is missing an essential balance in life since the death of his mentor, Mr. Miyagi.
- Meanwhile, even as this antipathy festers, it finds itself reflected in their protegees as Miguel and his comrades are gradually poisoned by Cobra Kai’s thuggish philosophy. Meanwhile, while Daniel’s daughter, Samantha, finds herself in the middle of this conflict amidst false friends, Johnny’s estranged miscreant son, Robby, finds himself inadvertently coming under Daniel’s wing and flourishes in ways worthy of Mr. Miyagi.

0:04:44.720,0:04:47.600
into things
0:04:45.680,0:04:49.280
pod no i think it’s just insights into
0:04:47.600,0:04:50.400
things i’m not sure we need to confirm
0:04:49.280,0:04:51.520
that yeah you would want to get the
0:04:50.400,0:04:53.840
wrong information
0:04:51.520,0:04:55.199
we’re on instagram now too but anyway
0:04:53.840,0:04:57.479
you get all of those
0:04:55.199,0:04:58.720
at our website at insights into
0:04:57.479,0:05:00.080
things.com
0:04:58.720,0:05:01.840
god there’s one place that has
0:05:00.080,0:05:04.000
everything exactly that’s that’s what
0:05:01.840,0:05:06.479
the whole website’s for
0:05:04.000,0:05:10.420
uh so we’ll be right back and we’ll get
0:05:06.479,0:05:12.639
right into the show
0:05:10.420,0:05:16.479
[Applause]
0:05:12.639,0:05:19.520
go for disney detective so uh
0:05:16.479,0:05:21.680
the one article uh talked about
0:05:19.520,0:05:22.639
uh disney world and its rivals kind of
0:05:21.680,0:05:26.240
switching into
0:05:22.639,0:05:29.759
survival mode this came from uh
0:05:26.240,0:05:33.360
fool.com which uh is mostly an
0:05:29.759,0:05:36.479
investment motley fool but
0:05:33.360,0:05:39.919
it’s full.com is the the website yeah
0:05:36.479,0:05:42.000
um so they were talking about how
0:05:39.919,0:05:44.320
you know the central florida theme parks
0:05:42.000,0:05:47.280
are now starting to hunker down again
0:05:44.320,0:05:47.680
because they had a very good labor day
0:05:47.280,0:05:51.520
uh
0:05:47.680,0:05:54.080
weekend actually i believe uh universal
0:05:51.520,0:05:55.360
uh actually ended up getting to their
0:05:54.080,0:05:58.639
capacity level
0:05:55.360,0:06:01.039
and had to stop letting guests in
0:05:58.639,0:06:02.560
um because they were doing so well and i
0:06:01.039,0:06:04.560
know there were other
0:06:02.560,0:06:06.400
articles floating around talking about
0:06:04.560,0:06:08.720
how
0:06:06.400,0:06:10.240
some of the rides at universal they
0:06:08.720,0:06:12.240
weren’t adhering
0:06:10.240,0:06:14.960
to the social distancing that they were
0:06:12.240,0:06:17.440
kind of packing more people on
0:06:14.960,0:06:18.800
certain rides because they had such long
0:06:17.440,0:06:20.479
wait times
0:06:18.800,0:06:21.840
but in this article they were talking
0:06:20.479,0:06:24.880
about how
0:06:21.840,0:06:27.759
now that you know the summer season
0:06:24.880,0:06:28.479
is over now you’re going to see more
0:06:27.759,0:06:31.759
limits
0:06:28.479,0:06:34.479
on park hours for all of the
0:06:31.759,0:06:34.960
uh for all of the the parks in the area
0:06:34.479,0:06:38.080
um
0:06:34.960,0:06:38.560
and that universal actually temporarily
0:06:38.080,0:06:42.160
closed
0:06:38.560,0:06:44.639
two of its hotels and six of its least
0:06:42.160,0:06:46.479
popular attractions ahead of the
0:06:44.639,0:06:49.280
slowdown of the season
0:06:46.479,0:06:50.000
um it even talked about how sea world
0:06:49.280,0:06:53.520
who
0:06:50.000,0:06:54.319
they were offering longer hours and they
0:06:53.520,0:06:57.520
were actually
0:06:54.319,0:06:58.160
offering uh fireworks now they’ve
0:06:57.520,0:07:01.440
started
0:06:58.160,0:07:02.479
to cut back um as well the other thing
0:07:01.440,0:07:05.599
that’s hurting
0:07:02.479,0:07:06.800
um all of these parks now is that nobody
0:07:05.599,0:07:09.520
is doing
0:07:06.800,0:07:10.560
the halloween parties and that is
0:07:09.520,0:07:13.280
usually a very
0:07:10.560,0:07:14.319
big ticket item for universal and for
0:07:13.280,0:07:16.880
disney
0:07:14.319,0:07:17.520
and obviously they made the decision to
0:07:16.880,0:07:19.599
not
0:07:17.520,0:07:20.800
host these parties this year so that’s
0:07:19.599,0:07:23.120
kind of you know
0:07:20.800,0:07:24.560
gonna hurt them but the other thing too
0:07:23.120,0:07:27.599
is that with disney
0:07:24.560,0:07:28.880
and with universal they also have as you
0:07:27.599,0:07:32.319
know part of their company
0:07:28.880,0:07:32.319
they have a media
0:07:32.479,0:07:35.520
division that they fall back on so
0:07:34.479,0:07:37.919
obviously
0:07:35.520,0:07:41.120
they’re not hurting as much as say sea
0:07:37.919,0:07:44.479
world because sea world doesn’t have
0:07:41.120,0:07:46.639
anything else besides their parks really
0:07:44.479,0:07:49.120
at this point um so it’ll be interesting
0:07:46.639,0:07:51.440
to see you know what happens
0:07:49.120,0:07:53.759
um the one good thing is that even
0:07:51.440,0:07:57.039
though central florida has been
0:07:53.759,0:08:00.080
a hot spot for um
0:07:57.039,0:08:02.639
coveted positive individuals
0:08:00.080,0:08:04.800
they have realized that since the park
0:08:02.639,0:08:05.680
has opened or all of these parks have
0:08:04.800,0:08:09.599
opened
0:08:05.680,0:08:13.280
that there haven’t been any
0:08:09.599,0:08:15.840
um positive covid cases
0:08:13.280,0:08:17.759
from anybody visiting the park so that’s
0:08:15.840,0:08:20.240
kind of good news to hear that since
0:08:17.759,0:08:20.879
again the parks have been open nobody’s
0:08:20.240,0:08:24.080
test
0:08:20.879,0:08:26.479
tested positive from being at the park
0:08:24.080,0:08:29.039
so that that’s kind of a positive you
0:08:26.479,0:08:32.240
know with the parks being open
0:08:29.039,0:08:34.560
um obviously the parks aren’t going away
0:08:32.240,0:08:35.760
anytime soon it’s just gonna take a
0:08:34.560,0:08:38.479
little while
0:08:35.760,0:08:38.800
um you know for for things to to open
0:08:38.479,0:08:41.039
back
0:08:38.800,0:08:42.240
up obviously but the other thing too is
0:08:41.039,0:08:45.519
that now
0:08:42.240,0:08:46.959
the summer season is over so the park
0:08:45.519,0:08:49.760
usually is at a lull
0:08:46.959,0:08:51.360
anyway what was interesting was not in
0:08:49.760,0:08:54.720
this article but there was a
0:08:51.360,0:08:58.240
separate article that came out about
0:08:54.720,0:09:01.120
one of the resorts in
0:08:58.240,0:09:01.440
walt disney world uh the four seasons
0:09:01.120,0:09:06.720
was
0:09:01.440,0:09:06.720
actually offering staycation
0:09:07.440,0:09:12.720
vacation packages because they know so
0:09:10.480,0:09:15.120
many kids are doing homeschooling or
0:09:12.720,0:09:16.560
remote learning so many parents are
0:09:15.120,0:09:18.640
doing remote learning
0:09:16.560,0:09:19.680
so they kind of offered this vacation
0:09:18.640,0:09:23.040
packages
0:09:19.680,0:09:26.399
well you know work during the day and
0:09:23.040,0:09:28.080
and come play at night so um what was
0:09:26.399,0:09:28.880
funny was with the four seasons they
0:09:28.080,0:09:32.000
were actually
0:09:28.880,0:09:35.279
offering like a tutoring service so
0:09:32.000,0:09:37.360
for i believe it was 50 for a half a day
0:09:35.279,0:09:38.480
and a hundred dollars for the full day
0:09:37.360,0:09:42.320
you could have your
0:09:38.480,0:09:44.480
child go to school and they were using
0:09:42.320,0:09:45.440
um their ballrooms they were setting
0:09:44.480,0:09:48.959
them up
0:09:45.440,0:09:50.959
and social distancing tables with wi-fi
0:09:48.959,0:09:52.080
available and they’d have people there
0:09:50.959,0:09:55.360
on staff
0:09:52.080,0:09:56.880
to help with your children to you know
0:09:55.360,0:09:59.040
connect to their school
0:09:56.880,0:10:00.959
if they had any questions with homework
0:09:59.040,0:10:04.399
and then you know parents
0:10:00.959,0:10:05.120
can work you know in their their hotel
0:10:04.399,0:10:08.079
rooms
0:10:05.120,0:10:09.680
without any distraction and then once
0:10:08.079,0:10:11.519
your school day is over you can
0:10:09.680,0:10:13.200
you know you’re minutes away from you
0:10:11.519,0:10:14.959
know the theme parks
0:10:13.200,0:10:17.120
so that that i thought was kind of funny
0:10:14.959,0:10:17.760
and i actually there’s a facebook friend
0:10:17.120,0:10:20.800
of mine
0:10:17.760,0:10:24.160
who she’s actually she’s not going there
0:10:20.800,0:10:26.880
but she decided you know what
0:10:24.160,0:10:28.079
we’re homeschooling for you know for for
0:10:26.880,0:10:30.959
a month
0:10:28.079,0:10:33.360
and i’m working from home might as well
0:10:30.959,0:10:36.480
go someplace and and
0:10:33.360,0:10:40.079
make it more enjoyable than being stuck
0:10:36.480,0:10:43.680
in our kitchen so interesting yeah so
0:10:40.079,0:10:45.279
i’m assuming with these reduced hours um
0:10:43.680,0:10:46.880
they’re not lowering prices anywhere
0:10:45.279,0:10:48.079
nope of course not which is
0:10:46.880,0:10:50.240
you know that’s kind of one of the
0:10:48.079,0:10:51.519
sticking points that i have
0:10:50.240,0:10:53.040
you’re already offering a diminished
0:10:51.519,0:10:54.399
service then you’re right diminished
0:10:53.040,0:10:57.120
hours
0:10:54.399,0:10:58.959
and the thought that disney is is
0:10:57.120,0:11:02.079
switching to survival mode is almost
0:10:58.959,0:11:02.399
laughable considering the entire you
0:11:02.079,0:11:04.160
know
0:11:02.399,0:11:05.600
you could have absolutely nobody show up
0:11:04.160,0:11:07.600
at the parks for like
0:11:05.600,0:11:09.760
years right and they’d still turn a
0:11:07.600,0:11:12.399
profit
0:11:09.760,0:11:12.959
and and i wouldn’t be surprised if
0:11:12.399,0:11:16.160
there’s
0:11:12.959,0:11:19.040
some sort of discount out there for
0:11:16.160,0:11:20.720
florida residents because that we don’t
0:11:19.040,0:11:24.079
always hear about
0:11:20.720,0:11:25.519
in the national news if you you know if
0:11:24.079,0:11:28.079
you’re in that area
0:11:25.519,0:11:29.360
there’s usually always something going
0:11:28.079,0:11:32.480
on so i’m sure
0:11:29.360,0:11:34.640
for anybody in the orlando area
0:11:32.480,0:11:35.760
there’s probably some sort of discounts
0:11:34.640,0:11:38.240
yeah going on
0:11:35.760,0:11:39.279
you know to to attract people to to come
0:11:38.240,0:11:42.079
to the parks
0:11:39.279,0:11:43.839
so what’s our official family standpoint
0:11:42.079,0:11:46.320
on going to disney is it still
0:11:43.839,0:11:46.880
uh off limits at this point in time or
0:11:46.320,0:11:50.240
what
0:11:46.880,0:11:53.600
i don’t know i’m i’m like i think
0:11:50.240,0:11:56.800
our biggest thing is how to get there
0:11:53.600,0:11:59.440
that’s really the
0:11:56.800,0:12:01.519
you know if there was a without having
0:11:59.440,0:12:02.720
to fly without having to drive if we
0:12:01.519,0:12:05.760
were closer
0:12:02.720,0:12:08.639
plus the other thing too is that this
0:12:05.760,0:12:10.000
you know we’re in new jersey fortunately
0:12:08.639,0:12:13.920
we’re in an area right
0:12:10.000,0:12:14.720
now that has very low rates or you know
0:12:13.920,0:12:17.440
we’re we’re not
0:12:14.720,0:12:18.560
spiking too much infection rates of
0:12:17.440,0:12:21.680
infection rates
0:12:18.560,0:12:22.959
um but you know i’ve had
0:12:21.680,0:12:24.720
a couple of different doctor
0:12:22.959,0:12:27.839
appointments that you know
0:12:24.720,0:12:29.680
were makeup appointments from months ago
0:12:27.839,0:12:31.760
and the first question they ask is have
0:12:29.680,0:12:34.480
you left the delaware area
0:12:31.760,0:12:35.680
you know within you know the last two
0:12:34.480,0:12:38.240
weeks
0:12:35.680,0:12:39.920
and i know as soon as we get out of our
0:12:38.240,0:12:42.800
nice little cushion
0:12:39.920,0:12:43.600
that’s when we have to quarantine for
0:12:42.800,0:12:46.560
you know
0:12:43.600,0:12:48.240
the the two weeks and and and everything
0:12:46.560,0:12:51.200
and it’s like
0:12:48.240,0:12:52.800
is it worth it you know like i kind of i
0:12:51.200,0:12:53.839
kind of go back and forth it’s like
0:12:52.800,0:12:57.279
there’s that
0:12:53.839,0:13:00.480
you don’t want to live in fear but
0:12:57.279,0:13:03.839
you don’t want to die you know and
0:13:00.480,0:13:08.160
we don’t know if any of us
0:13:03.839,0:13:10.320
got it how it would affect us
0:13:08.160,0:13:12.480
and it’s like do you want to take that
0:13:10.320,0:13:15.040
risk just to
0:13:12.480,0:13:17.040
see something different no you’re right
0:13:15.040,0:13:20.399
you’re right it’s a it’s a risk reward
0:13:17.040,0:13:21.279
evaluation you have to make and the risk
0:13:20.399,0:13:26.000
itself
0:13:21.279,0:13:29.200
is statistically small but the potential
0:13:26.000,0:13:32.079
downfall to it is astronomical right
0:13:29.200,0:13:33.519
so so we’ll hold off it isn’t good news
0:13:32.079,0:13:35.120
to see that the people that have been
0:13:33.519,0:13:37.839
going down there have not been good
0:13:35.120,0:13:38.560
right and and that’s i think one of the
0:13:37.839,0:13:41.279
things that
0:13:38.560,0:13:42.320
we kind of talked about when the parks
0:13:41.279,0:13:44.079
were opening is
0:13:42.320,0:13:45.920
let’s let’s see how everybody’s making
0:13:44.079,0:13:48.480
it out there let’s see if
0:13:45.920,0:13:50.639
and and that’s the thing is you hear
0:13:48.480,0:13:52.880
disney doing really well
0:13:50.639,0:13:55.360
with the guests being socially distant
0:13:52.880,0:13:58.399
you hear some of the other parks with it
0:13:55.360,0:13:59.839
not going so well so
0:13:58.399,0:14:02.320
it would be nice if everybody was
0:13:59.839,0:14:04.160
following the rules all over the place
0:14:02.320,0:14:05.760
well and i think i think we stick to the
0:14:04.160,0:14:07.360
plan we take the rest of the year off
0:14:05.760,0:14:09.519
and we see where things are
0:14:07.360,0:14:10.720
after the first of the year you know we
0:14:09.519,0:14:13.760
might have a vaccine
0:14:10.720,0:14:15.440
we might have better numbers by then
0:14:13.760,0:14:17.360
we’ll see wait and see we’ll take the
0:14:15.440,0:14:19.360
rest of the year off absolutely
0:14:17.360,0:14:20.959
so tell us what attraction we might be
0:14:19.360,0:14:24.279
losing at hollywood studios
0:14:20.959,0:14:25.839
so this uh article came from
0:14:24.279,0:14:28.399
kennythepirate.com
0:14:25.839,0:14:30.800
and obviously there were lots of changes
0:14:28.399,0:14:33.680
when the parks opened there were
0:14:30.800,0:14:35.839
things that obviously as we mentioned
0:14:33.680,0:14:37.600
the park isn’t at full capacity not
0:14:35.839,0:14:40.639
every ride or attraction is
0:14:37.600,0:14:42.320
open one of the big things that
0:14:40.639,0:14:45.199
you know most people have noticed is
0:14:42.320,0:14:47.519
that because of the battle that’s going
0:14:45.199,0:14:48.480
back and forth with the actors equity
0:14:47.519,0:14:51.360
association
0:14:48.480,0:14:53.199
and disney a lot of the performers have
0:14:51.360,0:14:55.600
not been called back to work
0:14:53.199,0:14:56.480
so a lot of the the different stage
0:14:55.600,0:14:59.920
shows
0:14:56.480,0:15:02.079
haven’t been going on because of this
0:14:59.920,0:15:02.959
but they have started to do a couple of
0:15:02.079,0:15:05.760
different
0:15:02.959,0:15:06.560
uh things with characters um and some of
0:15:05.760,0:15:08.639
the shows
0:15:06.560,0:15:10.839
but things like the beauty and the beast
0:15:08.639,0:15:13.920
uh live stage show have been
0:15:10.839,0:15:17.199
temporary temporarily replaced
0:15:13.920,0:15:17.600
with other entertainment but the one
0:15:17.199,0:15:20.639
thing
0:15:17.600,0:15:22.560
that people were starting to notice was
0:15:20.639,0:15:25.680
the attraction
0:15:22.560,0:15:26.079
the voyage of the little mermaid didn’t
0:15:25.680,0:15:29.199
open
0:15:26.079,0:15:30.240
when the park opened and if you walk by
0:15:29.199,0:15:33.360
the area
0:15:30.240,0:15:36.880
around the attraction there’s no
0:15:33.360,0:15:39.759
markings for social distancing so
0:15:36.880,0:15:40.959
what they did with almost every other
0:15:39.759,0:15:44.000
attraction is they have
0:15:40.959,0:15:44.560
markings clearly defined so that when
0:15:44.000,0:15:46.560
they
0:15:44.560,0:15:48.480
you know certain attractions opened up
0:15:46.560,0:15:50.800
they’d already be marked up
0:15:48.480,0:15:51.759
but for the little mermaid there’s no
0:15:50.800,0:15:54.160
markings
0:15:51.759,0:15:55.120
and the other thing that was noticed was
0:15:54.160,0:15:59.040
that there’s
0:15:55.120,0:16:01.199
a show billboard that was on the side
0:15:59.040,0:16:03.759
of the theater and that has now been
0:16:01.199,0:16:06.959
removed and there’s nothing there
0:16:03.759,0:16:10.160
in its place so the speculation
0:16:06.959,0:16:12.240
is is this now gone forever now the
0:16:10.160,0:16:15.680
voyage of the little mermaid is
0:16:12.240,0:16:19.199
mostly a puppet show
0:16:15.680,0:16:22.240
with some live actors as well
0:16:19.199,0:16:24.320
nice little 17-minute show that’s inside
0:16:22.240,0:16:27.440
in air conditioning
0:16:24.320,0:16:29.279
you know that tells the quick version of
0:16:27.440,0:16:33.040
the little mermaid
0:16:29.279,0:16:35.040
movie and if you look at
0:16:33.040,0:16:37.440
you know there were pictures of the the
0:16:35.040,0:16:38.079
park map and there’s nothing listed for
0:16:37.440,0:16:40.240
it
0:16:38.079,0:16:41.360
not even something saying temporarily
0:16:40.240,0:16:43.920
close it’s just
0:16:41.360,0:16:44.480
it’s just vanished from from the map and
0:16:43.920,0:16:47.600
again
0:16:44.480,0:16:50.720
nothing for the markings for
0:16:47.600,0:16:54.560
when it could reopen so is
0:16:50.720,0:16:57.279
you know so is this part of the actor
0:16:54.560,0:16:59.279
dispute or is it something where they’ve
0:16:57.279,0:17:02.399
just figured all right time to
0:16:59.279,0:17:02.880
regroup and we’ll worry about it you
0:17:02.399,0:17:05.039
know
0:17:02.880,0:17:07.280
another time so well and because of the
0:17:05.039,0:17:09.199
close proximity of the actors and uh
0:17:07.280,0:17:11.120
the puppeteers it may be that you know
0:17:09.199,0:17:12.480
this just isn’t a viable show to
0:17:11.120,0:17:14.959
continue with this right
0:17:12.480,0:17:17.360
yeah could be no i really think i think
0:17:14.959,0:17:19.199
i’ve only seen it once myself
0:17:17.360,0:17:21.280
is it something that you and maddie uh
0:17:19.199,0:17:24.160
sit in on a lot
0:17:21.280,0:17:24.799
not a lot but we’ve sat on it a couple
0:17:24.160,0:17:27.919
of times
0:17:24.799,0:17:29.760
maybe two or three you know a shame to
0:17:27.919,0:17:32.720
lose another good air conditioning
0:17:29.760,0:17:34.000
exactly that’s why i pointed it out uh
0:17:32.720,0:17:35.280
hopefully they bring it back with
0:17:34.000,0:17:37.600
another air conditioned spot
0:17:35.280,0:17:38.320
right right shelters like that are
0:17:37.600,0:17:40.320
difficult
0:17:38.320,0:17:42.320
under these kids well and actually
0:17:40.320,0:17:43.039
that’s one of the things that they’ve
0:17:42.320,0:17:45.679
been doing
0:17:43.039,0:17:46.640
a lot more of is they have throughout
0:17:45.679,0:17:50.720
the park
0:17:46.640,0:17:52.320
these comfort zones where you can go
0:17:50.720,0:17:55.679
sit in air conditioning and take your
0:17:52.320,0:17:58.240
mask off and they have tables
0:17:55.679,0:17:59.039
you know spread out with with chairs so
0:17:58.240,0:18:01.520
people can go
0:17:59.039,0:18:03.440
sit and relax so i’m surprised they’re
0:18:01.520,0:18:05.039
not using it as
0:18:03.440,0:18:06.799
you know i guess it’s kind of harder
0:18:05.039,0:18:07.919
with a theater because you have the the
0:18:06.799,0:18:10.240
rows of seat
0:18:07.919,0:18:11.679
unless you you know mark off and then
0:18:10.240,0:18:15.120
you know how do you
0:18:11.679,0:18:16.960
get past people without you know getting
0:18:15.120,0:18:19.360
close to them
0:18:16.960,0:18:20.480
they could do that too so checkerbox
0:18:19.360,0:18:24.480
yeah true
0:18:20.480,0:18:25.919
true so anyway i guess we’ll see what uh
0:18:24.480,0:18:28.000
what happens with that moving forward
0:18:25.919,0:18:30.480
maybe we’ll bring something else in yeah
0:18:28.000,0:18:31.520
yeah so that was all we had for disney
0:18:30.480,0:18:33.919
detectives
0:18:31.520,0:18:43.840
we’ll be back in a minute with uh tales

0:19:49.760,0:19:52.559
a sound effect for you because i didn’t
0:19:51.039,0:19:56.720
switch the sound board over so
0:19:52.559,0:19:59.600
sorry not like not even disney detective
0:19:56.720,0:20:01.280
wow i’m really losing it today no more

0:20:01.280,0:20:07.840
go for tails from the edge of the galaxy
0:20:13.600,0:20:19.679
so obi-wan kenobi is shaping up to be
0:20:16.640,0:20:22.000
a pretty interesting series so far
0:20:19.679,0:20:23.760
in a recent interview ewan mcgregor
0:20:22.000,0:20:24.720
agreed that the show has been a long
0:20:23.760,0:20:26.320
time coming
0:20:24.720,0:20:29.200
the last time that he had actually
0:20:26.320,0:20:29.919
played the jedi master was in 2005’s
0:20:29.200,0:20:31.840
return
0:20:29.919,0:20:34.080
uh revenge of the sith not return of the
0:20:31.840,0:20:36.559
seth that’s a completely different
0:20:34.080,0:20:39.200
movie and it sounds like he’s actually
0:20:36.559,0:20:42.559
more excited
0:20:39.200,0:20:45.200
to reprise the role of obi-wan
0:20:42.559,0:20:46.000
he said i’m more excited about doing
0:20:45.200,0:20:48.799
this one
0:20:46.000,0:20:50.480
than i was doing the second or third one
0:20:48.799,0:20:52.240
uh that we did before
0:20:50.480,0:20:53.600
i’m just excited about working with
0:20:52.240,0:20:56.159
deborah cho
0:20:53.600,0:20:57.360
um who has also been directing some of
0:20:56.159,0:20:59.760
the mandalorian
0:20:57.360,0:21:01.919
uh episodes and the story lines are
0:20:59.760,0:21:03.679
going to be really good i think i’m just
0:21:01.919,0:21:06.240
excited to play him again it’s been a
0:21:03.679,0:21:08.320
long time since i’ve played him before
0:21:06.240,0:21:10.559
he’s also expressed that he’s very
0:21:08.320,0:21:13.679
excited to try out the whole
0:21:10.559,0:21:16.400
volume which is the
0:21:13.679,0:21:17.600
special effects uh technology that
0:21:16.400,0:21:20.960
they’ve been using
0:21:17.600,0:21:21.440
for the mandalorian so he’s now you know
0:21:20.960,0:21:23.919
he’s
0:21:21.440,0:21:26.240
talked about how you know now we’re
0:21:23.919,0:21:28.080
gonna be able to really create stuff
0:21:26.240,0:21:30.000
without all the green and the blue
0:21:28.080,0:21:33.039
screens he said which was really kind
0:21:30.000,0:21:35.280
of tedious as an actor so now
0:21:33.039,0:21:37.360
you you know he’s going to be immersed
0:21:35.280,0:21:41.200
in it you know a lot more
0:21:37.360,0:21:44.240
um he said that you know he knows that
0:21:41.200,0:21:47.280
you know those sequel
0:21:44.240,0:21:50.799
pre-sequel movies were in the greatest
0:21:47.280,0:21:53.840
you know he he realizes that as an actor
0:21:50.799,0:21:57.440
um but he said that you know
0:21:53.840,0:21:59.679
for who they were really made for
0:21:57.440,0:22:00.559
which is the kids which is what we’ve
0:21:59.679,0:22:03.600
talked about
0:22:00.559,0:22:06.240
numerous times he said he knows
0:22:03.600,0:22:07.760
that they’re special to to the kids to
0:22:06.240,0:22:10.080
the ones that
0:22:07.760,0:22:10.880
you know it was actually made for so
0:22:10.080,0:22:14.640
he’s
0:22:10.880,0:22:18.159
happy to kind of bring back that magic
0:22:14.640,0:22:20.240
and even more in this new series
0:22:18.159,0:22:22.080
interesting and we still don’t have any
0:22:20.240,0:22:24.799
plot details at all
0:22:22.080,0:22:27.440
what it’s going to cover the assumption
0:22:24.799,0:22:29.360
is it’s going to be his time on tatooine
0:22:27.440,0:22:32.000
right which has has been fairly well
0:22:29.360,0:22:35.360
covered in in novels and comics
0:22:32.000,0:22:37.679
um is this going to be
0:22:35.360,0:22:38.720
more targeted towards the kids or is
0:22:37.679,0:22:40.159
this going to be more
0:22:38.720,0:22:42.159
targeted towards the adults like the
0:22:40.159,0:22:42.480
mandalorian yeah i don’t know i don’t
0:22:42.159,0:22:45.039
know
0:22:42.480,0:22:46.080
if it’s going to be kind of you know if
0:22:45.039,0:22:47.919
it’s
0:22:46.080,0:22:49.600
you know obviously with the mandalorian
0:22:47.919,0:22:52.960
they they kind of
0:22:49.600,0:22:54.720
got that sweet point you know it it
0:22:52.960,0:22:57.200
the adults were really excited about it
0:22:54.720,0:23:00.000
and the kids are really excited about it
0:22:57.200,0:23:01.679
you know we know from from our kid you
0:23:00.000,0:23:04.880
know we weren’t really sure
0:23:01.679,0:23:08.880
if she was going to be as into it
0:23:04.880,0:23:12.240
and and she was um and i know
0:23:08.880,0:23:15.280
various different people who they became
0:23:12.240,0:23:18.320
very big fans of it you know from
0:23:15.280,0:23:21.840
from our age group and and younger
0:23:18.320,0:23:24.480
and and whatnot so
0:23:21.840,0:23:25.039
with you know it almost sounds like
0:23:24.480,0:23:27.520
they’re
0:23:25.039,0:23:29.360
kind of going to keep it on the same
0:23:27.520,0:23:31.600
level maybe because deborah cho
0:23:29.360,0:23:33.600
is is part of it and that’s kind of what
0:23:31.600,0:23:38.320
i’m hoping is right it’s sort of
0:23:33.600,0:23:41.679
it it keeps that same uh maturity level
0:23:38.320,0:23:42.240
to the characters and the story and the
0:23:41.679,0:23:44.640
plot
0:23:42.240,0:23:47.039
right and it tells us some of that
0:23:44.640,0:23:49.039
backstory that we didn’t get between
0:23:47.039,0:23:50.240
revenge of the sith and a new hope about
0:23:49.039,0:23:52.080
obi-wan
0:23:50.240,0:23:53.679
and it’s like they they have that
0:23:52.080,0:23:55.760
formula this is
0:23:53.679,0:23:57.600
this is how you do it and how you do it
0:23:55.760,0:24:00.960
right let’s
0:23:57.600,0:24:03.679
keep it going so yes and and
0:24:00.960,0:24:04.000
i think if they can continue with that
0:24:03.679,0:24:06.559
level
0:24:04.000,0:24:08.240
of success then the lack of star wars
0:24:06.559,0:24:09.200
movies since they’re trying to take a
0:24:08.240,0:24:12.080
break from it
0:24:09.200,0:24:14.039
right won’t hurt the franchise um
0:24:12.080,0:24:16.320
certainly the
0:24:14.039,0:24:18.080
marvelization of star wars where they’re
0:24:16.320,0:24:20.559
trying to crank out multiple moves a
0:24:18.080,0:24:24.320
year was not the right formula for this
0:24:20.559,0:24:26.960
particular genre i’m just hoping
0:24:24.320,0:24:28.320
in the wake of the issues that we
0:24:26.960,0:24:30.880
revealed
0:24:28.320,0:24:32.559
last week or the week before about
0:24:30.880,0:24:34.480
disney having issues with the second
0:24:32.559,0:24:37.279
season of the mandalorian
0:24:34.480,0:24:37.600
that there isn’t some fundamental shift
0:24:37.279,0:24:39.919
in
0:24:37.600,0:24:41.440
philosophy of the story lines where
0:24:39.919,0:24:41.840
we’re going to go down that wrong path
0:24:41.440,0:24:44.799
again
0:24:41.840,0:24:46.080
right it’s hard to catch that lightning
0:24:44.799,0:24:47.679
in a bottle again like you did with
0:24:46.080,0:24:49.919
mandalorian because that first season
0:24:47.679,0:24:52.559
was fantastic
0:24:49.919,0:24:53.279
but i definitely think you know working
0:24:52.559,0:24:55.840
with
0:24:53.279,0:24:58.720
the talent that they have now you’ve got
0:24:55.840,0:25:01.679
a tremendous amount of potential
0:24:58.720,0:25:02.240
so tell us about who daisy ridley’s
0:25:01.679,0:25:05.760
character
0:25:02.240,0:25:08.480
ray might have been the granddaughter of
0:25:05.760,0:25:10.159
so as you mentioned there’s been a
0:25:08.480,0:25:11.440
number of different articles that have
0:25:10.159,0:25:14.480
come out because
0:25:11.440,0:25:18.960
just this last week she was
0:25:14.480,0:25:18.960
on jimmy kimmel live with
0:25:20.000,0:25:23.360
i did not meet that tab and i thought i
0:25:22.480,0:25:27.039
did
0:25:23.360,0:25:31.840
you know i was like who else is shocking
0:25:27.039,0:25:31.840
it’s just me what the heck no kidding
0:25:32.240,0:25:39.120
this is a great blooper episode um
0:25:35.679,0:25:42.720
so anyway so the other night
0:25:39.120,0:25:45.840
she appeared alongside josh gad um
0:25:42.720,0:25:49.440
and they were talking about uh
0:25:45.840,0:25:51.279
the movie obviously and she had said
0:25:49.440,0:25:54.159
you know at the beginning they were
0:25:51.279,0:25:56.000
toying with her actually being related
0:25:54.159,0:25:59.360
to obi-wan
0:25:56.000,0:26:00.960
and that they kind of you know so
0:25:59.360,0:26:02.320
you know they started filming and it was
0:26:00.960,0:26:03.200
like okay you’re going to be related to
0:26:02.320,0:26:05.039
obi-wan
0:26:03.200,0:26:06.080
then they kind of took it away and then
0:26:05.039,0:26:07.200
they’re like no you’re going to be
0:26:06.080,0:26:09.679
related to this one
0:26:07.200,0:26:12.000
no he took it away and she said that
0:26:09.679,0:26:12.960
while the filming was going on for the
0:26:12.000,0:26:16.080
movie
0:26:12.960,0:26:16.720
it kept changing so there was it seemed
0:26:16.080,0:26:19.679
like
0:26:16.720,0:26:20.960
they had no idea where they really
0:26:19.679,0:26:24.159
wanted
0:26:20.960,0:26:25.840
um you know to go with it and then of
0:26:24.159,0:26:28.159
course it’s like oh by the way you’re
0:26:25.840,0:26:29.679
you’re related to palpatine and it was
0:26:28.159,0:26:33.039
like oh
0:26:29.679,0:26:35.760
okay sure you know and then of course
0:26:33.039,0:26:36.720
everyone was like how did that happen
0:26:35.760,0:26:38.559
and then
0:26:36.720,0:26:40.880
you know in another article that
0:26:38.559,0:26:43.600
basically talked about the same thing
0:26:40.880,0:26:44.559
with um you know the going back and
0:26:43.600,0:26:48.000
forth
0:26:44.559,0:26:49.360
uh with who her lineage was um
0:26:48.000,0:26:51.440
you know because they kind of hinted
0:26:49.360,0:26:55.279
even that she was a skywalker
0:26:51.440,0:26:57.840
you know at one point in time um and
0:26:55.279,0:26:58.400
you know there were fans basically that
0:26:57.840,0:27:01.760
came out
0:26:58.400,0:27:03.520
after her revelation uh about this
0:27:01.760,0:27:05.600
that they were just like you know what
0:27:03.520,0:27:06.720
this is why things have been wrong with
0:27:05.600,0:27:10.000
star wars
0:27:06.720,0:27:12.880
since kathleen kennedy has been involved
0:27:10.000,0:27:13.200
so you know twitter was even all you
0:27:12.880,0:27:16.720
know
0:27:13.200,0:27:20.159
up in in arms about uh the whole thing
0:27:16.720,0:27:23.919
with who she was actually related to and
0:27:20.159,0:27:26.480
and could palpatine have survived
0:27:23.919,0:27:28.720
you know and then um the actor that that
0:27:26.480,0:27:31.760
played palpatine even talked about
0:27:28.720,0:27:33.039
um at a uh comic con that was held
0:27:31.760,0:27:36.080
earlier this year
0:27:33.039,0:27:39.120
saying that you know palpatine was
0:27:36.080,0:27:40.720
really a clone and you know it wasn’t
0:27:39.120,0:27:43.760
the original palpatine
0:27:40.720,0:27:45.679
and you know that if you watch the movie
0:27:43.760,0:27:48.480
and you know the one scene where it kind
0:27:45.679,0:27:51.200
of pans you see these clones of snoke
0:27:48.480,0:27:52.000
and that who’s a clone and who’s not a
0:27:51.200,0:27:55.760
clone
0:27:52.000,0:27:57.760
type thing so it kind of just goes what
0:27:55.760,0:27:59.360
so but it was interesting to hear from
0:27:57.760,0:28:02.559
her saying
0:27:59.360,0:28:05.120
you know that she wasn’t expecting to
0:28:02.559,0:28:06.159
to be palpatine’s you know granddaughter
0:28:05.120,0:28:09.520
uh either
0:28:06.159,0:28:11.200
well and i have to say this revelation
0:28:09.520,0:28:12.720
i don’t want to say it makes sense but
0:28:11.200,0:28:15.039
it certainly makes
0:28:12.720,0:28:16.640
some of the questionable choices in the
0:28:15.039,0:28:19.039
movie make sense
0:28:16.640,0:28:20.559
uh the fact that there was that level of
0:28:19.039,0:28:23.360
indecision
0:28:20.559,0:28:23.760
all the way through the movie you feel
0:28:23.360,0:28:25.679
that
0:28:23.760,0:28:27.520
in the movie i mean the movie itself
0:28:25.679,0:28:30.399
feels like this confused
0:28:27.520,0:28:32.000
mess of a movie that like changed
0:28:30.399,0:28:34.480
directions to all different times and
0:28:32.000,0:28:36.880
when you watch that movie through
0:28:34.480,0:28:39.120
there’s like four movies in there like
0:28:36.880,0:28:41.039
parts of four movies i should say
0:28:39.120,0:28:45.840
and they stuck it all together and they
0:28:41.039,0:28:45.840
made an incoherent mess of it
0:28:46.240,0:28:49.840
it makes no sense to have her be
0:28:48.080,0:28:51.679
palpatine’s granddaughter
0:28:49.840,0:28:54.320
right there was no indication of
0:28:51.679,0:28:58.320
palpatine even had any offspring
0:28:54.320,0:28:59.919
no indication he had any relationships
0:28:58.320,0:29:02.720
nothing so it was like completely out of
0:28:59.919,0:29:06.799
the blue and the fact that he survived
0:29:02.720,0:29:09.520
is just it’s ridiculous especially when
0:29:06.799,0:29:09.840
not only does he survive but they take
0:29:09.520,0:29:11.440
you
0:29:09.840,0:29:13.200
back to the throne room that he’s
0:29:11.440,0:29:16.480
allegedly survived
0:29:13.200,0:29:20.320
in right it just it made no sense
0:29:16.480,0:29:23.279
whatsoever like if you could clone
0:29:20.320,0:29:24.960
force users that easily why didn’t the
0:29:23.279,0:29:26.240
jedi order just clone
0:29:24.960,0:29:28.080
a whole bunch of jedis instead of
0:29:26.240,0:29:30.399
cloning clone troopers right
0:29:28.080,0:29:31.360
or or maybe they didn’t have that
0:29:30.399,0:29:34.640
technology
0:29:31.360,0:29:36.159
and only the sith did yeah see
0:29:34.640,0:29:38.240
and that’s the thing it’s just there was
0:29:36.159,0:29:38.880
but he was a really bad clone if that
0:29:38.240,0:29:41.039
was
0:29:38.880,0:29:42.320
if that was if that was the best clone
0:29:41.039,0:29:45.200
you could come up with
0:29:42.320,0:29:45.520
he was pretty decrepit true but it was
0:29:45.200,0:29:48.640
just
0:29:45.520,0:29:50.720
like it made no sense they they were
0:29:48.640,0:29:53.440
like they were trying to borrow elements
0:29:50.720,0:29:54.000
from the expanded universe they were
0:29:53.440,0:29:57.120
trying to
0:29:54.000,0:30:00.159
come up with some kind of
0:29:57.120,0:30:03.360
like twist some kind of hook
0:30:00.159,0:30:05.679
and then they revealed the entire hook
0:30:03.360,0:30:07.279
months before almost a full year before
0:30:05.679,0:30:09.600
the movie came out
0:30:07.279,0:30:11.279
when they had a mcdermott show up at
0:30:09.600,0:30:13.440
celebrations right
0:30:11.279,0:30:15.279
and you you see the trailer the the
0:30:13.440,0:30:16.080
first teaser trailer for it and it’s got
0:30:15.279,0:30:18.559
palpatine
0:30:16.080,0:30:19.840
like you know right what the twist was
0:30:18.559,0:30:22.080
and that’s right
0:30:19.840,0:30:23.440
what was the point of that yeah that
0:30:22.080,0:30:24.640
would have been like the opening scene
0:30:23.440,0:30:26.480
of a new hope
0:30:24.640,0:30:28.080
darth vader’s first line saying luke i’m
0:30:26.480,0:30:29.760
your father and then go on with the rest
0:30:28.080,0:30:31.600
of the movie
0:30:29.760,0:30:32.799
that would have been a completely
0:30:31.600,0:30:35.440
different right
0:30:32.799,0:30:36.000
like like that was that reveal happened
0:30:35.440,0:30:38.559
when that
0:30:36.000,0:30:40.399
reveal needed to happen right and that’s
0:30:38.559,0:30:43.200
one thing that jj abrams
0:30:40.399,0:30:45.760
has done terribly was his reveal right
0:30:43.200,0:30:48.159
you know you go back to a force awakens
0:30:45.760,0:30:50.080
and we find out like almost in the
0:30:48.159,0:30:52.720
opening scene that kylo ren is
0:30:50.080,0:30:54.240
is the son of hannah and luke a han and
0:30:52.720,0:30:56.399
uh leia
0:30:54.240,0:30:57.919
and then he takes his masks off like in
0:30:56.399,0:31:00.240
the second scene it’s like
0:30:57.919,0:31:01.360
why why are we doing all this stuff out
0:31:00.240,0:31:03.440
of order
0:31:01.360,0:31:05.679
like those reveals are supposed to be
0:31:03.440,0:31:08.320
saved to a certain point in time because
0:31:05.679,0:31:09.840
they’re plot relevant true you don’t put
0:31:08.320,0:31:11.039
all your cards on the table and then
0:31:09.840,0:31:12.559
start betting
0:31:11.039,0:31:14.559
it makes no sense and that’s what they
0:31:12.559,0:31:16.080
did with this so
0:31:14.559,0:31:17.519
make it would have made a lot more sense
0:31:16.080,0:31:18.159
it would have made them for a much more
0:31:17.519,0:31:21.360
compelling
0:31:18.159,0:31:23.039
story if rey was the granddaughter of
0:31:21.360,0:31:26.159
obi-wan kenobi
0:31:23.039,0:31:28.960
because for the star wars fans out there
0:31:26.159,0:31:31.360
if you watched rebels obi-wan had
0:31:28.960,0:31:34.240
already had a relationship in place
0:31:31.360,0:31:35.120
he had a relationship in place with this
0:31:34.240,0:31:37.600
woman from
0:31:35.120,0:31:39.039
mandler she was the ruler of of
0:31:37.600,0:31:42.240
mandalore
0:31:39.039,0:31:43.039
and they had to the point and it would
0:31:42.240,0:31:46.240
have set up the
0:31:43.039,0:31:48.559
the new obi-wan show
0:31:46.240,0:31:50.399
right because the relationship he had
0:31:48.559,0:31:53.840
with this woman
0:31:50.399,0:31:55.120
was terminated when darth maul kills the
0:31:53.840,0:31:57.519
woman
0:31:55.120,0:31:58.480
so it would have been a fantastic plot
0:31:57.519,0:32:01.440
twist for
0:31:58.480,0:32:03.120
uh every antagonist as it would
0:32:01.440,0:32:03.760
everything would have lined up a lot
0:32:03.120,0:32:06.720
better right
0:32:03.760,0:32:07.679
and then with this show coming out you
0:32:06.720,0:32:10.880
could have
0:32:07.679,0:32:12.720
played up the whole lineage that obi-wan
0:32:10.880,0:32:14.799
had from this secret relationship that
0:32:12.720,0:32:16.640
he had as a job okay
0:32:14.799,0:32:19.120
so they they ruined the whole thing
0:32:16.640,0:32:22.799
though so
0:32:19.120,0:32:25.679
sorry anyway anyway
0:32:22.799,0:32:28.399
one more reason to hate that movie
0:32:25.679,0:32:30.559
because i need it more
0:32:28.399,0:32:32.159
never enough reasons all right let’s
0:32:30.559,0:32:33.360
take a quick break we’ll come back and
0:32:32.159,0:32:33.919
i’ll see if i can screw up the next
0:32:33.360,0:32:43.120
segment
0:32:33.919,0:32:45.919
okay awesome can’t wait

0:34:20.240,0:34:24.480
been packed with shocking twists and
0:34:22.159,0:34:27.119
turns and surprise
0:34:24.480,0:34:28.480
to catch the panel it’ll be on thursday
0:34:27.119,0:34:32.079
october 8th
0:34:28.480,0:34:35.599
starting at 2 45 eastern time
0:34:32.079,0:34:37.119
the two stars return to in bbc america’s
0:34:35.599,0:34:40.800
highly anticipated dr
0:34:37.119,0:34:42.960
who’s festive special uh revolution of
0:34:40.800,0:34:44.639
the daleks which will be premiering this
0:34:42.960,0:34:47.760
holiday season
0:34:44.639,0:34:49.919
um the uh
0:34:47.760,0:34:51.359
new york comic con fans will also be
0:34:49.919,0:34:54.800
able to
0:34:51.359,0:34:57.440
uh see um some interesting things about
0:34:54.800,0:35:00.560
a new bbc america series called
0:34:57.440,0:35:03.920
the watch and that will actually have a
0:35:00.560,0:35:04.400
panel on friday october 9th starting at
0:35:03.920,0:35:07.839
1
0:35:04.400,0:35:09.359
30 and the watch follows an unlikely
0:35:07.839,0:35:12.640
group of misfits
0:35:09.359,0:35:16.480
the city watch who are forced to find
0:35:12.640,0:35:18.480
the guts to save the world and
0:35:16.480,0:35:21.520
they even surprise themselves in the
0:35:18.480,0:35:22.400
process and it’s a comedic yet thrilling
0:35:21.520,0:35:25.440
series of
0:35:22.400,0:35:26.400
uh that pits trolls werewolves and
0:35:25.440,0:35:30.160
wizards
0:35:26.400,0:35:32.640
and other heroes against an evil plot
0:35:30.160,0:35:34.800
to resurrect a great dragon which would
0:35:32.640,0:35:36.800
lead to the destruction of life as we
0:35:34.800,0:35:39.520
know it so that kind of sounds like
0:35:36.800,0:35:40.079
like something uh that we would uh be
0:35:39.520,0:35:41.920
watching
0:35:40.079,0:35:44.079
kind of a plot hole there why would you
0:35:41.920,0:35:46.079
want to resurrect that dragon then
0:35:44.079,0:35:47.440
well the benefit do you get from well
0:35:46.079,0:35:50.720
they they want to stop
0:35:47.440,0:35:52.320
resurrecting the they’re they have to
0:35:50.720,0:35:54.000
stop the drought oh i thought they were
0:35:52.320,0:35:57.440
dry i’m sorry i misunderstood
0:35:54.000,0:36:00.560
no they have to stop the plot to
0:35:57.440,0:36:01.440
to do that um now as we’ve mentioned
0:36:00.560,0:36:04.079
before
0:36:01.440,0:36:04.560
new york comic-con this year is doing
0:36:04.079,0:36:07.119
what
0:36:04.560,0:36:08.320
san diego comic-con did and everything
0:36:07.119,0:36:10.320
is virtual
0:36:08.320,0:36:12.000
um new york comic-con will be online
0:36:10.320,0:36:15.839
from october 8th
0:36:12.000,0:36:19.200
to the 11th and just like with san diego
0:36:15.839,0:36:22.560
the majority of the panels are free
0:36:19.200,0:36:25.680
uh to to view um you know
0:36:22.560,0:36:27.280
online at least you know we can attend
0:36:25.680,0:36:28.079
this new york comic con and i know i can
0:36:27.280,0:36:30.640
get a room with
0:36:28.079,0:36:32.000
air conditioning right unlike our last
0:36:30.640,0:36:35.520
attempt to go to new york
0:36:32.000,0:36:38.160
oh that was so sad that was really sad
0:36:35.520,0:36:40.960
yeah so are they doing and they’re not
0:36:38.160,0:36:42.160
doing anything uh live on stage or
0:36:40.960,0:36:44.240
anything like that this is all they
0:36:42.160,0:36:45.920
haven’t they haven’t talked about
0:36:44.240,0:36:47.280
you know anything and they they don’t
0:36:45.920,0:36:50.160
have a full list
0:36:47.280,0:36:50.880
out yet i’m sure if you kind of search
0:36:50.160,0:36:53.680
you can
0:36:50.880,0:36:55.119
you can find um some different things so
0:36:53.680,0:36:57.839
it’s it’s coming out
0:36:55.119,0:37:00.240
you know and i’m guessing most of it
0:36:57.839,0:37:02.560
kind of like with san diego has been
0:37:00.240,0:37:04.160
pre-recorded or will be pre-recorded i
0:37:02.560,0:37:04.720
don’t know if anything will actually be
0:37:04.160,0:37:07.040
done
0:37:04.720,0:37:09.040
now are they still uh releasing
0:37:07.040,0:37:10.560
exclusive merchandise because i know san
0:37:09.040,0:37:13.200
diego did some exclusives
0:37:10.560,0:37:15.280
yeah they actually have the only thing
0:37:13.200,0:37:16.400
that i’ve seen so far have been like
0:37:15.280,0:37:18.560
t-shirts
0:37:16.400,0:37:20.320
and stuff and and there was one t-shirt
0:37:18.560,0:37:22.560
that said something about you know i
0:37:20.320,0:37:25.359
miss seeing you at the con
0:37:22.560,0:37:26.960
um and other things that said new york
0:37:25.359,0:37:27.760
comic con i’m sure there’s probably
0:37:26.960,0:37:29.119
going to be
0:37:27.760,0:37:31.359
because you know those are going to be
0:37:29.119,0:37:33.280
collectors oh absolutely
0:37:31.359,0:37:34.560
from the circumstances of which the
0:37:33.280,0:37:37.040
convention’s going yeah
0:37:34.560,0:37:38.720
yeah so in a couple of weeks we’ll you
0:37:37.040,0:37:41.119
know we’ll be able to enjoy
0:37:38.720,0:37:42.160
new york comic-con from from home in in
0:37:41.119,0:37:44.160
air conditioning so
0:37:42.160,0:37:45.920
october 8th through 11th hopefully we
0:37:44.160,0:37:47.200
won’t need air conditioning here by that
0:37:45.920,0:37:49.680
yeah hopefully
0:37:47.200,0:37:50.480
uh so tell us about the walking dead so
0:37:49.680,0:37:53.359
this has been
0:37:50.480,0:37:54.400
popping up all over the place our our
0:37:53.359,0:37:57.920
amazon
0:37:54.400,0:38:00.400
uh echoes even uh mentioned it as well
0:37:57.920,0:38:01.440
that walking dead will be coming to an
0:38:00.400,0:38:04.720
end after
0:38:01.440,0:38:08.640
a super-sized 11th season
0:38:04.720,0:38:09.920
um so it’s not ending anytime soon
0:38:08.640,0:38:13.200
because at this point
0:38:09.920,0:38:16.240
it’ll be in 2022 that the
0:38:13.200,0:38:19.599
final season will air um so
0:38:16.240,0:38:22.480
abc uh not abc amc
0:38:19.599,0:38:24.880
has actually already given the go-ahead
0:38:22.480,0:38:28.079
for a new walking dead spin-off
0:38:24.880,0:38:31.520
with fan favorite norman reedus and
0:38:28.079,0:38:34.880
melissa mcbride in their roles as daryl
0:38:31.520,0:38:36.160
and carol um the show is sounds like a
0:38:34.880,0:38:39.119
new heart episode
0:38:36.160,0:38:40.960
daryl and carol yeah so the show is
0:38:39.119,0:38:44.320
actually being created by
0:38:40.960,0:38:47.920
current show runner angela khan
0:38:44.320,0:38:49.280
and uh scott m gimble and they have an
0:38:47.920,0:38:52.320
unyet titled
0:38:49.280,0:38:54.079
uh series but that looks like it’s going
0:38:52.320,0:38:57.440
to be scheduled to premiere
0:38:54.079,0:39:01.040
in 2023. um so
0:38:57.440,0:39:03.280
the walking dead season 10 finale
0:39:01.040,0:39:04.400
which everybody’s been waiting for
0:39:03.280,0:39:05.760
because of
0:39:04.400,0:39:08.480
everything that happened with the
0:39:05.760,0:39:10.960
shutdowns of all of the production
0:39:08.480,0:39:12.839
they had finished filming it but they
0:39:10.960,0:39:15.359
didn’t do any of the pro
0:39:12.839,0:39:18.560
post-production things
0:39:15.359,0:39:19.520
that will actually be airing on october
0:39:18.560,0:39:22.240
4th
0:39:19.520,0:39:23.280
and now we’ll have 10 additional
0:39:22.240,0:39:26.720
episodes
0:39:23.280,0:39:29.680
which will be airing in 2021
0:39:26.720,0:39:30.960
that will still be part of the tenth
0:39:29.680,0:39:34.160
season
0:39:30.960,0:39:36.240
um so really kind of confusing how
0:39:34.160,0:39:37.920
they’re they’re doing all of this and
0:39:36.240,0:39:40.640
and breaking it up
0:39:37.920,0:39:42.000
um and actually what was kind of
0:39:40.640,0:39:44.079
interesting is they said
0:39:42.000,0:39:45.119
you know that this was kind of very
0:39:44.079,0:39:48.240
reminiscent
0:39:45.119,0:39:51.359
of what amc did with the end of
0:39:48.240,0:39:54.640
mad men and breaking bad where they did
0:39:51.359,0:39:57.040
an 11th season and kind of broke it up
0:39:54.640,0:39:58.480
into two years because that’s what
0:39:57.040,0:40:01.200
they’ll be doing
0:39:58.480,0:40:02.640
with the walking dead the final season
0:40:01.200,0:40:05.680
will actually be
0:40:02.640,0:40:08.640
24 episodes which is twice as many
0:40:05.680,0:40:10.000
as a regular season and it’s going to be
0:40:08.640,0:40:13.920
broken up into
0:40:10.000,0:40:14.640
two years so got a lot of walking dead
0:40:13.920,0:40:17.839
for
0:40:14.640,0:40:18.400
a lot longer um you know and the show’s
0:40:17.839,0:40:21.920
been
0:40:18.400,0:40:22.960
been on since 2010 so it’s had a very
0:40:21.920,0:40:26.319
good run
0:40:22.960,0:40:29.359
um and the other thing too is
0:40:26.319,0:40:32.480
for those that have read the comics know
0:40:29.359,0:40:34.400
that the comics now are are done
0:40:32.480,0:40:36.839
you know robert kirkman finished with
0:40:34.400,0:40:39.280
190
0:40:36.839,0:40:42.720
193 um
0:40:39.280,0:40:45.599
episodes or uh issues and
0:40:42.720,0:40:47.520
it actually ended last year so it’ll be
0:40:45.599,0:40:50.720
interesting because obviously
0:40:47.520,0:40:53.440
you know from reading online and
0:40:50.720,0:40:55.280
and whatnot there’s a lot of people that
0:40:53.440,0:40:55.760
are still alive in the comics that
0:40:55.280,0:40:58.400
aren’t
0:40:55.760,0:41:00.319
in in the show and vice versa so it’ll
0:40:58.400,0:41:03.040
be interesting to see how
0:41:00.319,0:41:03.440
they kind of wrap things up and and
0:41:03.040,0:41:05.599
bring
0:41:03.440,0:41:06.800
some sort of closure but obviously we
0:41:05.599,0:41:10.400
know that carol
0:41:06.800,0:41:13.680
and daryl live because they’re gonna be
0:41:10.400,0:41:14.560
in a a new series unless they do
0:41:13.680,0:41:16.240
something where they
0:41:14.560,0:41:18.000
and that’s the interesting thing because
0:41:16.240,0:41:19.680
carol doesn’t survive the comics and
0:41:18.000,0:41:20.319
daryl doesn’t even exist in the comments
0:41:19.680,0:41:22.160
exactly
0:41:20.319,0:41:23.599
so so it’s kind of funny that they’re
0:41:22.160,0:41:26.079
going down i think you know
0:41:23.599,0:41:27.680
right spin off that way right right but
0:41:26.079,0:41:30.000
the other interesting thing is
0:41:27.680,0:41:30.960
the uh point they’re up to in the show
0:41:30.000,0:41:34.480
here
0:41:30.960,0:41:37.760
is very close to the last series
0:41:34.480,0:41:40.560
that they did in the comics okay so it
0:41:37.760,0:41:44.000
kind of makes sense to wrap it up here
0:41:40.560,0:41:46.640
but the last episode of the comics
0:41:44.000,0:41:47.280
it was very weird the way he ended it
0:41:46.640,0:41:49.280
because
0:41:47.280,0:41:51.040
everything’s going along you have this
0:41:49.280,0:41:52.880
plot you know line that
0:41:51.040,0:41:55.119
that you’re going down here and that
0:41:52.880,0:41:58.319
plot line ends
0:41:55.119,0:42:00.960
but it doesn’t end with a finality
0:41:58.319,0:42:02.000
that would end the series it ends with
0:42:00.960,0:42:04.400
the whole okay let’s
0:42:02.000,0:42:05.359
move into the next let’s progress to the
0:42:04.400,0:42:08.720
next
0:42:05.359,0:42:11.839
plot line right and the very next issue
0:42:08.720,0:42:14.880
is a time hop issue
0:42:11.839,0:42:16.880
that is a flashback of
0:42:14.880,0:42:18.319
how we got here and what the state of
0:42:16.880,0:42:21.440
things are now
0:42:18.319,0:42:23.359
so it was almost when i when i read into
0:42:21.440,0:42:25.280
it it was almost like
0:42:23.359,0:42:27.119
he didn’t want to do the comics anymore
0:42:25.280,0:42:28.960
and he just decided to end it but he
0:42:27.119,0:42:31.520
ended it in a way
0:42:28.960,0:42:32.480
that gave him that large time gap that
0:42:31.520,0:42:34.800
he’d go back
0:42:32.480,0:42:37.839
if he needed to and rewrite more of that
0:42:34.800,0:42:39.359
stuff and fill in those gaps okay
0:42:37.839,0:42:41.760
i doubt he’s going to do that at this
0:42:39.359,0:42:45.040
point in time but maybe somebody else
0:42:41.760,0:42:45.839
could right and i think he did that in a
0:42:45.040,0:42:48.240
way to
0:42:45.839,0:42:49.920
give the writers and producers on the
0:42:48.240,0:42:53.359
show the ability
0:42:49.920,0:42:55.920
to sort of write the rest of the story
0:42:53.359,0:42:57.040
with this line in the sand being the
0:42:55.920,0:42:59.440
final comic of
0:42:57.040,0:43:01.680
here’s what things need to end up with
0:42:59.440,0:43:05.359
you guys fill in the blanks
0:43:01.680,0:43:07.280
um so i don’t think you know we’ve got
0:43:05.359,0:43:09.760
what 24 episodes in the
0:43:07.280,0:43:10.880
final season we’ve got a season finale
0:43:09.760,0:43:13.520
in four episodes
0:43:10.880,0:43:15.359
right so you’re looking at about 29
0:43:13.520,0:43:17.760
episodes at this point in time
0:43:15.359,0:43:20.160
that’s a lot of there’s a lot of story
0:43:17.760,0:43:23.200
that can happen in 29 episodes
0:43:20.160,0:43:24.960
you know plus you also have you know are
0:43:23.200,0:43:27.520
they gonna do any more crossovers
0:43:24.960,0:43:30.319
because you have fear the walking dead
0:43:27.520,0:43:31.280
with a couple of characters have crossed
0:43:30.319,0:43:34.160
over with that
0:43:31.280,0:43:35.119
and then you have the walking dead world
0:43:34.160,0:43:38.079
beyond which is
0:43:35.119,0:43:38.640
the the young adult premier gym right
0:43:38.079,0:43:42.480
and that
0:43:38.640,0:43:45.920
will be premiering um october 11th
0:43:42.480,0:43:48.480
so you know again with that is that
0:43:45.920,0:43:49.920
something with anybody crossing over
0:43:48.480,0:43:51.839
from the world that we
0:43:49.920,0:43:53.200
currently know and now you’re you’re
0:43:51.839,0:43:57.200
seeing things from
0:43:53.200,0:43:59.359
you know another angle
0:43:57.200,0:44:00.880
you know that we haven’t seen before so
0:43:59.359,0:44:03.280
i mean the one thing you have to keep in
0:44:00.880,0:44:06.319
mind is that the walking dead
0:44:03.280,0:44:08.400
only it it was a sadly
0:44:06.319,0:44:10.560
to compare it to kovit it was something
0:44:08.400,0:44:13.280
that afflicted the whole world
0:44:10.560,0:44:14.480
and you’re only seeing this very small
0:44:13.280,0:44:16.800
segment of the world
0:44:14.480,0:44:17.680
right from the eyes of these characters
0:44:16.800,0:44:19.119
right
0:44:17.680,0:44:20.800
so there’s a whole other world out there
0:44:19.119,0:44:22.079
that you can explore yeah you you don’t
0:44:20.800,0:44:24.880
even know what’s going on in other
0:44:22.079,0:44:26.480
countries at this point yeah but you
0:44:24.880,0:44:30.160
know i i think the
0:44:26.480,0:44:30.720
the the zombie trend is kind of playing
0:44:30.160,0:44:32.079
itself
0:44:30.720,0:44:34.079
out at this point in time we went
0:44:32.079,0:44:35.119
through our vampires and that played
0:44:34.079,0:44:37.119
itself out and then right
0:44:35.119,0:44:38.560
through zombies that played itself out
0:44:37.119,0:44:40.560
right so
0:44:38.560,0:44:41.920
it might be might be time to wind it
0:44:40.560,0:44:45.040
down at this point right but
0:44:41.920,0:44:46.800
again we we also have the three movies
0:44:45.040,0:44:50.319
that are supposed to be coming out
0:44:46.800,0:44:54.000
with rick grimes and and that whole
0:44:50.319,0:44:55.440
what happened once he got picked up by
0:44:54.000,0:44:57.200
you know and that’s the other thing
0:44:55.440,0:44:58.640
because if you look at it from the comic
0:44:57.200,0:45:01.599
standpoint
0:44:58.640,0:45:03.520
where the group is going now as of the
0:45:01.599,0:45:06.079
last episode
0:45:03.520,0:45:07.680
introduces them to this this other
0:45:06.079,0:45:11.200
larger world this larger
0:45:07.680,0:45:13.280
entity and that was where in the comics
0:45:11.200,0:45:16.240
rick grime played a very
0:45:13.280,0:45:17.839
significant role well if he’s going to
0:45:16.240,0:45:19.680
get his movies and they’re going to meet
0:45:17.839,0:45:21.599
them there
0:45:19.680,0:45:23.359
does everybody meet up later is there a
0:45:21.599,0:45:24.400
crossover that happens between the
0:45:23.359,0:45:26.720
movies and stuff
0:45:24.400,0:45:28.319
yeah or or is he picked up by a
0:45:26.720,0:45:30.839
completely different group
0:45:28.319,0:45:32.319
because in the comics the the
0:45:30.839,0:45:34.720
commonwealth right
0:45:32.319,0:45:36.079
didn’t have helicopters and technology
0:45:34.720,0:45:37.920
that this group had
0:45:36.079,0:45:39.680
so i think we may be looking at a
0:45:37.920,0:45:40.400
different right this is definitely a
0:45:39.680,0:45:43.760
different group
0:45:40.400,0:45:45.359
so anyway just speculation at this point
0:45:43.760,0:45:47.040
but it should be interesting we got a
0:45:45.359,0:45:48.480
lot of walking dead to go
0:45:47.040,0:45:50.160
and of course they’re going to cancel
0:45:48.480,0:45:51.920
the show because i started watching it
0:45:50.160,0:45:53.440
so but you’ve been watching it for a
0:45:51.920,0:45:54.800
couple of years now it’s not like you
0:45:53.440,0:45:56.480
just started
0:45:54.800,0:45:58.160
no i’ve been watching it this is maybe
0:45:56.480,0:45:59.920
my second year because i’ve been
0:45:58.160,0:46:01.680
the first seven years all right so
0:45:59.920,0:46:03.599
that’s pretty good because there have
0:46:01.680,0:46:04.720
been lots of other shows that you start
0:46:03.599,0:46:06.560
watching it
0:46:04.720,0:46:07.920
while the season is going on and it gets
0:46:06.560,0:46:11.040
canceled all right so
0:46:07.920,0:46:12.640
so movies about dead people apparently
0:46:11.040,0:46:14.000
have more legs to them when i start
0:46:12.640,0:46:15.680
watching them than anything else there
0:46:14.000,0:46:16.960
you go
0:46:15.680,0:46:20.020
we’ll be back in a minute with our
0:46:16.960,0:46:24.000
insightful picks of the week
0:46:20.020,0:46:26.839
[Applause]
0:46:24.000,0:46:29.119
go for your insightful that was a quick
0:46:26.839,0:46:32.480
minute
0:46:29.119,0:46:35.920
the magic of movie editing magic um
0:46:32.480,0:46:39.760
so my insightful pick this week is
0:46:35.920,0:46:42.800
a documentary series
0:46:39.760,0:46:46.000
um on netflix called
0:46:42.800,0:46:47.440
love on the spectrum it is an australian
0:46:46.000,0:46:50.640
reality show
0:46:47.440,0:46:54.560
um that um
0:46:50.640,0:46:57.359
is i guess it’s a dating show really
0:46:54.560,0:46:59.599
is what it is um and what they do is
0:46:57.359,0:47:00.319
they follow seven young adults who are
0:46:59.599,0:47:03.599
all on the
0:47:00.319,0:47:06.960
autism spectrum and are trying to
0:47:03.599,0:47:09.040
get into the dating world um
0:47:06.960,0:47:10.079
and what’s interesting about this is
0:47:09.040,0:47:13.839
it’s
0:47:10.079,0:47:17.119
much different than your regular
0:47:13.839,0:47:19.040
you know dating show um
0:47:17.119,0:47:20.160
it actually seems to have a little bit
0:47:19.040,0:47:22.480
more heart and
0:47:20.160,0:47:24.000
is a little bit more real because there
0:47:22.480,0:47:27.839
there’s so many different dating
0:47:24.000,0:47:30.000
shows uh out there and and
0:47:27.839,0:47:31.280
you know you end up finding out that you
0:47:30.000,0:47:33.200
know so much has been
0:47:31.280,0:47:34.960
set up and that you know this person
0:47:33.200,0:47:37.040
already knew this person or
0:47:34.960,0:47:39.200
you know they made sure to to put this
0:47:37.040,0:47:42.079
person you know with this person
0:47:39.200,0:47:42.880
so that they’d clash and there’s none of
0:47:42.079,0:47:45.280
that
0:47:42.880,0:47:46.880
with this you you feel the the
0:47:45.280,0:47:50.240
genuineness
0:47:46.880,0:47:53.440
of this um there’s actually two couples
0:47:50.240,0:47:55.520
on here who who are um
0:47:53.440,0:47:56.880
who have been dating for for a couple of
0:47:55.520,0:47:58.800
years and and
0:47:56.880,0:48:00.000
you know they talk about how they got
0:47:58.800,0:48:03.200
together and and
0:48:00.000,0:48:03.839
how it’s been you know the challenges
0:48:03.200,0:48:06.480
they face
0:48:03.839,0:48:06.960
to to to live together and things like
0:48:06.480,0:48:08.640
that
0:48:06.960,0:48:10.800
and then you have a you know all of
0:48:08.640,0:48:13.200
these other um
0:48:10.800,0:48:15.760
young people who you know in some cases
0:48:13.200,0:48:18.400
had never been on a date before
0:48:15.760,0:48:18.880
um you know some are just so determined
0:48:18.400,0:48:22.000
to
0:48:18.880,0:48:25.119
find somebody to be with and they show
0:48:22.000,0:48:26.160
that there’s these you know different
0:48:25.119,0:48:28.880
organizations
0:48:26.160,0:48:29.680
out there that are geared towards people
0:48:28.880,0:48:32.640
with
0:48:29.680,0:48:33.440
disabilities or with autism to to help
0:48:32.640,0:48:36.960
them
0:48:33.440,0:48:40.400
understand how it is uh to date and
0:48:36.960,0:48:42.319
and just be in social environments and
0:48:40.400,0:48:44.160
and things like that and it’s
0:48:42.319,0:48:45.520
you know in some cases it’s very sweet
0:48:44.160,0:48:48.480
to see
0:48:45.520,0:48:48.880
you know the innocence of it all um you
0:48:48.480,0:48:51.680
know
0:48:48.880,0:48:52.079
and and where the producers are there
0:48:51.680,0:48:54.880
you know
0:48:52.079,0:48:57.119
asking them questions and you can see
0:48:54.880,0:48:58.640
you know them getting flustered
0:48:57.119,0:49:00.000
um with everything because you have to
0:48:58.640,0:49:02.079
figure they’re there there’s all these
0:49:00.000,0:49:03.760
cameras there’s all these lights and and
0:49:02.079,0:49:05.359
and everything and you know they’ll
0:49:03.760,0:49:06.720
they’ll say to them do you need to take
0:49:05.359,0:49:10.319
a break do you need to
0:49:06.720,0:49:13.440
and yeah i do or no i’m fine or
0:49:10.319,0:49:15.680
you know the one date it was funny
0:49:13.440,0:49:17.440
um you know these two people are on a
0:49:15.680,0:49:20.720
date and the one gets up to
0:49:17.440,0:49:22.480
to go to the the restroom and the
0:49:20.720,0:49:23.760
the producer is like oh so how are
0:49:22.480,0:49:25.359
things going because
0:49:23.760,0:49:27.520
i think it’s going really well i don’t
0:49:25.359,0:49:28.960
know you know she’s really quiet
0:49:27.520,0:49:30.880
and all of a sudden you hear her in the
0:49:28.960,0:49:32.160
background because you know they have no
0:49:30.880,0:49:34.880
filter
0:49:32.160,0:49:36.240
i i’m totally okay with you know she’s
0:49:34.880,0:49:38.319
she’s mouthing off
0:49:36.240,0:49:39.680
you know during something that you would
0:49:38.319,0:49:42.640
never see in a
0:49:39.680,0:49:44.720
you know in a different type of of
0:49:42.640,0:49:47.119
dating show um
0:49:44.720,0:49:48.800
i believe it’s five episodes and at the
0:49:47.119,0:49:51.680
end of the the final episode
0:49:48.800,0:49:53.680
it gives a little recap of all the
0:49:51.680,0:49:56.160
different people you know there was
0:49:53.680,0:49:57.520
one girl who who found someone and they
0:49:56.160,0:49:59.280
went on two dates
0:49:57.520,0:50:01.760
and it looked like things were were
0:49:59.280,0:50:02.079
going well and you find out that you
0:50:01.760,0:50:04.400
know
0:50:02.079,0:50:06.319
they decided to just be friends and you
0:50:04.400,0:50:09.359
know someone else is still
0:50:06.319,0:50:11.440
uh you know going and working and then
0:50:09.359,0:50:13.040
the one person is actually working with
0:50:11.440,0:50:15.040
a psychiatrist
0:50:13.040,0:50:16.559
uh or a psychologist and actually
0:50:15.040,0:50:19.839
helping to
0:50:16.559,0:50:21.200
create an app for people with
0:50:19.839,0:50:24.720
disabilities to help
0:50:21.200,0:50:27.680
find you know others in in the dating uh
0:50:24.720,0:50:28.240
the dating circle so really a sweet you
0:50:27.680,0:50:30.559
know
0:50:28.240,0:50:32.559
much different than again all the other
0:50:30.559,0:50:33.680
dating shows out there so it’s love on
0:50:32.559,0:50:39.970
the spectrum
0:50:33.680,0:50:41.200
on netflix very good pick thank you
0:50:39.970,0:50:42.640
[Applause]
0:50:41.200,0:50:45.920
[Music]
0:50:42.640,0:50:49.200
so my pick this week is not
0:50:45.920,0:50:51.040
a documentary my pick this week is a new
0:50:49.200,0:50:53.200
show we started to watch
0:50:51.040,0:50:54.720
we’re i don’t know three four episodes
0:50:53.200,0:50:58.559
into it so far
0:50:54.720,0:51:01.040
and that is cobra kai on netflix
0:50:58.559,0:51:02.800
30 years after their final confrontation
0:51:01.040,0:51:05.760
at the 1984
0:51:02.800,0:51:06.480
all valley karate tournament johnny
0:51:05.760,0:51:08.960
lawrence
0:51:06.480,0:51:10.319
is at rock bottom as an unemployed
0:51:08.960,0:51:13.839
handyman
0:51:10.319,0:51:15.839
haunted by his wasted life
0:51:13.839,0:51:18.240
however when johnny rescues a bullied
0:51:15.839,0:51:20.800
kid miguel from bullies
0:51:18.240,0:51:22.800
he’s inspired to restart the notorious
0:51:20.800,0:51:25.760
cobra kobrakai dojo
0:51:22.800,0:51:28.000
however this revitalization of his life
0:51:25.760,0:51:30.960
and related misunderstandings find
0:51:28.000,0:51:32.880
johnny restarting his old rivalry with
0:51:30.960,0:51:35.920
daniel larusso
0:51:32.880,0:51:37.200
a successful businessman who may be
0:51:35.920,0:51:39.599
happily married
0:51:37.200,0:51:41.680
but is missing an essential balance in
0:51:39.599,0:51:43.119
life since the death of his mentor mr
0:51:41.680,0:51:47.280
miyagi
0:51:43.119,0:51:49.680
meanwhile even as this antipathy festers
0:51:47.280,0:51:52.240
it finds itself reflected in their
0:51:49.680,0:51:54.319
proteges as miguel and his comrades are
0:51:52.240,0:51:56.559
gradually poisoned by koberkai’s
0:51:54.319,0:51:58.240
thuggish philosophy
0:51:56.559,0:52:00.400
meanwhile with daniel’s daughter
0:51:58.240,0:52:02.559
samantha finds herself
0:52:00.400,0:52:05.119
in the middle of this conflict amidst
0:52:02.559,0:52:06.160
false friends johnny’s estranged
0:52:05.119,0:52:08.640
miscreant son
0:52:06.160,0:52:10.800
robbie finds himself inadvertently
0:52:08.640,0:52:13.359
coming under daniel’s wing
0:52:10.800,0:52:14.880
and flourishes in ways worthy of mr
0:52:13.359,0:52:16.559
miyagi
0:52:14.880,0:52:19.200
so we haven’t gotten that far into it
0:52:16.559,0:52:22.960
yet we’re still in the first season
0:52:19.200,0:52:26.079
the show is campy
0:52:22.960,0:52:29.680
it is nostalgic very
0:52:26.079,0:52:30.880
it’s funny uh because it it makes fun of
0:52:29.680,0:52:34.000
itself
0:52:30.880,0:52:34.400
uh it makes fun of the 1980s you know we
0:52:34.000,0:52:37.520
we
0:52:34.400,0:52:39.440
find early on the character of johnny
0:52:37.520,0:52:41.520
lawrence is down on his luck he’s
0:52:39.440,0:52:44.000
getting fired from his jobs he hates his
0:52:41.520,0:52:47.119
life and all this other stuff
0:52:44.000,0:52:47.839
and he draws inspiration from watching
0:52:47.119,0:52:50.200
the movie
0:52:47.839,0:52:53.200
iron eagle which was a great you know
0:52:50.200,0:52:53.200
1980s
0:52:53.760,0:53:00.880
you know family flick type thing
0:52:57.200,0:53:05.280
um and you know he he starts the jo
0:53:00.880,0:53:08.480
dojo again and finds out that you know
0:53:05.280,0:53:10.480
things aren’t what as easy as he thought
0:53:08.480,0:53:12.559
they were he has to get inspections and
0:53:10.480,0:53:15.760
he has to take care of
0:53:12.559,0:53:18.640
uh various business entity things
0:53:15.760,0:53:18.960
and advertising and everything else and
0:53:18.640,0:53:21.760
he
0:53:18.960,0:53:22.880
he goes about it from the the
0:53:21.760,0:53:26.160
perspective of
0:53:22.880,0:53:27.040
a 1984 businessman and right like he
0:53:26.160,0:53:29.839
never grew up
0:53:27.040,0:53:30.880
right right and never left the 80s yeah
0:53:29.839,0:53:33.920
so
0:53:30.880,0:53:35.920
uh it it’s so far i i enjoy the show
0:53:33.920,0:53:37.680
uh they’re half hour episodes so they’re
0:53:35.920,0:53:38.960
not that long they’re very easy to
0:53:37.680,0:53:42.079
digest
0:53:38.960,0:53:45.839
uh the conflict that they are
0:53:42.079,0:53:49.040
setting up in the show itself is
0:53:45.839,0:53:52.800
again it’s that 1984 good versus
0:53:49.040,0:53:54.800
evil with a twist type so i think it’s
0:53:52.800,0:53:56.240
the show itself is just it’s it’s good
0:53:54.800,0:53:59.680
fun it’s
0:53:56.240,0:54:00.559
it’s a flashback to when we were kids
0:53:59.680,0:54:02.880
and
0:54:00.559,0:54:04.480
you know we get all the references you
0:54:02.880,0:54:05.760
know kids today wouldn’t get a lot of
0:54:04.480,0:54:08.720
these references in fact
0:54:05.760,0:54:09.359
they talk about you know and there’s one
0:54:08.720,0:54:13.440
scene where
0:54:09.359,0:54:16.160
he tells uh his his uh student
0:54:13.440,0:54:17.839
you know you just need to to to you know
0:54:16.160,0:54:19.440
concentrate put on some gun
0:54:17.839,0:54:21.760
guns and roses and rock and the guy’s
0:54:19.440,0:54:25.119
like what’s what’s guns and roses
0:54:21.760,0:54:27.359
right so it’s it’s really funny when it
0:54:25.119,0:54:30.000
comes to stuff like that so
0:54:27.359,0:54:31.280
cobra kai streaming now on netflix two
0:54:30.000,0:54:33.040
seasons we’re only on
0:54:31.280,0:54:35.520
season one right now but second season
0:54:33.040,0:54:38.230
did drop and is available
0:54:35.520,0:54:42.240
and we’ll be back in a minute
0:54:38.230,0:54:44.720
[Applause]
0:54:42.240,0:54:46.799
so i think that was the gist of what we
0:54:44.720,0:54:48.160
had today did you have any
0:54:46.799,0:54:50.319
closing thoughts or anything you wanted
0:54:48.160,0:54:51.839
to throw out no nothing today
0:54:50.319,0:54:53.760
