- Marriott’s newest Disney World hotel on track to open in 2021 with a new name
- https://thepointsguy.com/news/disney-world-swan-reserve-hotel/
- https://bit.ly/3bCpmhR
- Disney’s Swan and Dolphin hotels. While they’re on Disney’s grounds and within walking distance to Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, they’re actually Westin and Sheraton properties
- We’ve known for a while that a third tower was coming to this “Swolphin” development — a name we affectionately use for the two adjacent properties that share many amenities. This third tower was announced back in 2018 and was known as The Cove — until now.
- The third component of the Swan and Dolphin complex is now known as The Walt Disney World Swan Reserve, instead of The Cove. (Which could get a touch confusing as there will now be two towers with the Swan name in them.)
- We also just learned that the project’s top floor was just topped off, a construction milestone that signifies the property is still on track for its planned summer 2021 opening.
- The new tower will have 14 stories and 349 rooms — 149 of which will be suites designed for families of six to eight.
- The Walt Disney World Swan Reserve will have its own signature restaurant, a grab-and-go market, a health club and its own pool. Guests will have access to the amenities and pools at the Swan and Dolphin as well.
- In 2019, Disney World opened both a new hotel and a new tower — the Disney Riviera Resort and the Gran Destino Tower at Coronado Springs. But, other than the (very exciting) Star Wars-themed hotel (that’s really more experience than a traditional hotel) that will hopefully still open in 2021, new hotel construction may be slowing for a bit at Disney World. Since the pandemic hit in March, there’s some evidence pointing toward at least a pause in the construction of the previously announced Disney Vacation Club nature-themed resort called Reflections that was to open in 2022.
- Mulan Confirmed to Be Released for All Disney+ Subscribers Without Extra Cost… But When?
- https://bit.ly/2QVE8XB
- With an ever-changing media landscape due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Disney is doing what it can to get Mulan safely in front of the masses. As the current plan stands, the House of Mouse is releasing the live-action remake of the animated classic in select theaters, wherever they’re open on September 4th. Then, on the same day, Disney+ will be start carrying it as a “Premier Access” opportunity, meaning subscribers of the service can purchase it for $29.99 and stream it digitally from home.
- Once purchased, the digital company will remain on a user’s Disney+ account until their subscription expires — meaning once consumers purchase the Mulan Premier Access offering, they’ll forever have it until they deactivate their account. At the end of the day, it’s also a Disney movie so eventually, it will be available for free as part of the Disney+ library. The question remains — when exactly will free access for Mulan begin?
- Early Saturday, online outlets began reporting the page for the movie on Disney+ listed the date of Mulan’s free arrival as December 4th. “Watch before its release to all Disney+ subscribers on December 4, 2020,” a screenshot of the page circulating online reads.
- As of this writing, however, that page has been updated to remove the date. Now, the page simply reads “Watch with Premier Access before its release to all Disney+ subscribers.” The page also includes a disclaimer reminding fans they need a Disney+ subscription in order to purchase Mulan this coming week.
- Regardless of when Mulan hits Disney+ for free, the platform is already taking drastic measures to combine a free streaming library with the infrastructure needed to sell VOD products in-app. Despite the tech being there, Disney CEO Bob Chapek previously said Mulan will likely be a one-off offering.
- “We are looking at Mulan as a one-off as opposed to saying there’s a new business windowing model we are looking at,” Chapek explained during an investor’s call earlier this year.
- Mulan hits Disney+ on September 4th.
- There’s Controversy Brewing Over Mulan — & It’s Not The Lack Of Singing That Has People Upset https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/2020/09/10009219/mulan-boycott-liu-yifei-disney-plus
- https://r29.co/330jQBV
- Unfortunately, the excitement over the Mulan’s long-awaited release is being shadowed by a renewed controversy stirred up by comments made by its star Liu Yifei, and the internet is once again calling for a global boycott of the movie.
- Yifei stars as the titular character in the live action Mulan, which follows a more culturally and historically accurate version of the 1998 animated original. Major changes were made; sexy General Li Shang (voiced by BD Wong) is a thing of the past, and there’s not really any singing. Still, fans were excited to see the story of Mulan play out on screen once again.
- However, a resurfaced 2019 interview is creating problems for Disney’s new drop on the day of its Disney+ release. Last year, star Yifei made the untimely admission that she was in full support of the Hong Kong police force on she posted on Weibo (a Chinese social media platform akin to Twitter).
- “I support the Hong Kong police,” wrote Yifei online. “You can all attack me now. What a shame for Hong Kong.”
- The reveal was a particularly hot take, especially in light of the social unrest that was playing out in Hong Kong at the time. Starting in June 2019, thousands of people in Hong Kong began hosting anti-government demonstrations in the streets. Many of the protests were sparked after the proposition of an an extradition bill which would have legally allowed criminal suspects in Hong Kong to be extradited to mainland China, but the social justice movement grew to address general government corruption. In response, the government sent police to quell the protests by any means necessary, utilizing tear gas and rubber bullets against the people. Even after the bill was suspended and then formally withdrawn, the civil unrest and protests continued, with the authorities using even more extreme force.
- A year later, the repercussions of Yifei’s pro-police stance are manifesting the form of a boycott of her first Disney project. The internet still remembers, and many would-be viewers of Mulan have opted out because of the actress’s controversial comments.
- The #BoycottMulan movement presents yet another problem for the film. Access to Mulan was already limited because of the price that audiences would have to pay just to see it — not to mention the extra money you’d shell out to permanently have it in your Disney+ library — but the backlash against Yifei gives Disney fans even more reason not to tune in.
- Disney’s live action remakes have been largely successful, raking in millions for the entertainment powerhouse over the years. But this movie might be the exception; there’s a chance that it could very well be cancelled before it even really begins.

- Disney Reportedly Has A Big Problem With The Mandalorian Season 2
- https://wegotthiscovered.com/tv/disney-reportedly-big-problem-mandalorian-season-2/?fbclid=IwAR0iyp6zf4cWdx_QBfUAYUeGdyZCwO_g50x5g5QDRkAM168two7XcsiIWKo

- Star Wars fans have been waiting patiently – and not so patiently – for the first trailer for The Mandalorian season 2 for a while now. Disney previously confirmed that the much-anticipated sophomore run of the hit show will premiere as intended this October, with reports pointing to the trailer dropping in mid-August. However, there’s been radio silence on this front for the past few weeks, suggesting something’s amiss behind the scenes.
- Insider Grace Randolph has now revealed the reason, as she’s claiming that the studio “didn’t like” the season 2 trailer and so has delayed it to get it re-edited. That’s a fairly minor issue on its own, but according to Randolph, it’s indicative of much bigger problems Disney has with the whole season.
- She says that “they have problems with the season overall – reshoots but also I hear a BIG problem,” which Randolph is unable to open up about at this time.
- In a couple of follow-up tweets, she clarified that she does have additional info but cannot offer it right now. She continued to press that whatever this problem is, it’s “BIG.” The insider added that “Disney still has time to fix it though, or paper over it so maybe no one ever knows…”
- Her final comment suggests that if Disney does go ahead and order reshoots, this could mean season 2 has a “significant shift” about halfway through its eight-episode run.
- We’ll have to wait for further updates from Randolph or perhaps info from other insiders and outlets before we can know more, but this news will likely have Star Wars fans screaming: “Not again!” Unfortunately, the Disney era of SW has an infamous history of studio intervention, which many blame for the way The Rise of Skywalker turned out. You might think they’d know to leave The Mandalorian alone, seeing as season 1 was so popular, but then again, that would also be a reason for them to keep a closer eye on it.
- The next installment of the insanely popular series will begin streaming on Disney+ on October 30.

- Will Shuri Become The New Black Panther? Chadwick Boseman Left Behind A Legacy
- https://www.elitedaily.com/p/will-shuri-become-the-new-black-panther-chadwick-boseman-left-behind-a-legacy-33059836
- https://bit.ly/3lSrZAQ
- Chadwick Boseman’s death has left his fans, colleagues, and loved ones alike all reeling. The actor was in the prime of his career, especially considering his position as one of the most beloved heroes in the Marvel franchise to date. His passing leaves Disney with a tough choice for what to do about his character T’Challa in future Black Panther movies. There’s the chance the role of T’Challa gets recast, but many fans have already expressed resistance to that option. There’s also the possibility Letitia Wright’s character Shuri becomes the new Black Panther, which could be the more favorable route, at least according to much of the fandom.
- Right now, it’s too soon for there to be any decision. Studios have dealt with the passing of main stars before, such as Carrie Fisher’s death passing between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, and Paul Walker’s car crash in the middle of filming Fast & Furious 7. But while both those deaths were unexpected, neither actor was the eponymous face of the franchise. Nor were they in the position of having just come to fame in those roles.
- Moreover, fans are not ready to say goodbye to Boseman. Grief over the loss of Boseman will remain fresh for a long time. He not only broke racial barriers in the entertainment industry but also became a living symbol of what’s possible. That’s not something Disney can easily recast, even if an actor were willing to take on such a challenge.
- The good news is, Disney has time. The coronavirus pandemic has already created massive delays in production, so it’s not like filming needs to happen right away or anything. However, once it’s time to get back to production, there is already a solution built into the franchise — it’s just a matter of whether Marvel will embrace it.
- The recent run of Black Panther comics, which the movie franchise is based on, has T’Challa’s sister Shuri inheriting her brother’s mantle when he disappears and is presumed dead. Marvel was notoriously slow out of the gate when it came to diversifying its movies, and there have been verbal commitments to rectifying that in Phase 4. But the only sign of a new Black female superhero beyond Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie is Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) in Disney+’s upcoming WandaVision. She, like Thompson, is notably a supporting character, not a lead. So, having Wright become the titular hero in a new Avengers lineup would solve that. It would honor Boseman’s commitment to making this franchise a historic piece of entertainment.
- Coogler already stated he would love to tackle a woman-centric Black Panther sequel. Moreover, making Wright the Black Panther sidesteps any need for recasting for the time being, and it provides the opportunity for a potential on-screen funeral for T’Challa, so fans can have a collective moment to mourn Boseman’s loss.

- Filming of Warner Bros.’ “The Batman” movie has been temporarily paused after lead actor Robert Pattinson tested positive for the coronavirus, Vanity Fair reported Thursday.
- Warner Bros. confirmed in a statement to the outlet that filming paused after a member of the movie’s production tested positive for the coronavirus, but would not comment on any individual worker’s health.
- “A member of The Batman production has tested positive for Covid-19, and is isolating in accordance with established protocols. Filming is temporarily paused,” the studio said in a statement to Vanity Fair.
- Vanity Fair reported that Pattinson was the individual who contracted the virus, citing unnamed sources.
- A spokesperson for Warner Bros. was not immediately available for comment when contacted by The Hill.
- The filming pause comes just days after the movie resumed production at a studio outside of London after it shut down in March, along with much of the entertainment industry, due to the pandemic, according to Vanity Fair.
- Pattinson, who starred in the “Twilight” franchise, is cast as Batman in the new movie. The cast also includes Paul Dano, Zoë Kravitz and Colin Farrell.

- Waking Sleeping Beauty is a 2009 American documentary film directed by Disney film producer Don Hahn and produced by Hahn and former Disney executive Peter Schneider. The film documents the history of Walt Disney Feature Animation from 1984 to 1994, covering the rise of a period referred to as the Disney Renaissance.
- The film uses no new on-camera interviews, instead relying primarily on archival interviews, press kit footage, in-progress and completed footage from the films being covered, and personal film/videos shot (often against company policy) by the employees of the animation studio.

- This series tells the story of Europe in six glossy episodes exploring different chapters of its eventful history. It’s a journey through time and across space, from physical beginnings to the first human settlers, the evolution of European culture and religion, historical achievements in exploration, technology and politics, and a daring look at the continent’s present and future.
- The series looks at a surprisingly large swath of European history which you don’t typically see in such documentaries
- It’s a total propaganda piece for the European Union, which is ironic given the fact that the host Christopher Clark is insistent on mentioning the fact the he’s an Australian
- The pro EU agenda has a tendency of forcing the narrative of the series to draw some questionable parallels and conclusions, but once you get passed that it’s a well presented series.

to
0:04:12.959,0:04:16.560
what’s going on with batman when we can
0:04:15.280,0:04:19.680
see it and
0:04:16.560,0:04:21.519
hopefully everybody is healthy on the
0:04:19.680,0:04:24.000
set now that uh
0:04:21.519,0:04:25.440
they’ve shut down once again and then
0:04:24.000,0:04:27.280
we’ll finish up with our insightful
0:04:25.440,0:04:29.919
picks of the week
0:04:27.280,0:04:32.290
are we ready to get started sure are all
0:04:29.919,0:04:36.080
right let’s do it
0:04:32.290,0:04:38.720
[Applause]
0:04:36.080,0:04:42.560
go for disney detective so if you’re
0:04:38.720,0:04:45.919
familiar with the resorts that are down
0:04:42.560,0:04:48.479
in the walt disney world area obviously
0:04:45.919,0:04:49.120
the area of disney springs kind of has
0:04:48.479,0:04:52.160
their
0:04:49.120,0:04:54.400
uh section of resorts that aren’t owned
0:04:52.160,0:04:56.960
by disney or or considered disney
0:04:54.400,0:04:58.479
property it’s kind of an offshoot
0:04:56.960,0:05:00.560
but there are two hotels that are kind
0:04:58.479,0:05:04.080
of sprinkled in
0:05:00.560,0:05:05.600
with the rest of the disney hotels
0:05:04.080,0:05:07.120
and that would be the swan and the
0:05:05.600,0:05:10.240
dolphin and
0:05:07.120,0:05:12.560
for a lot of people that aren’t aware
0:05:10.240,0:05:14.479
those are actually not disney property
0:05:12.560,0:05:15.360
but they are called the disney swan and
0:05:14.479,0:05:17.759
the disney
0:05:15.360,0:05:19.360
uh dolphin in their names they’re
0:05:17.759,0:05:22.000
actually owned by um
0:05:19.360,0:05:22.479
weston and sheridan so they’re actually
0:05:22.000,0:05:24.800
you know
0:05:22.479,0:05:28.479
completely uh separate companies from
0:05:24.800,0:05:30.080
disney and it seems back in 2018
0:05:28.479,0:05:31.919
they had announced that they were going
0:05:30.080,0:05:35.120
to be building a third
0:05:31.919,0:05:37.440
tower uh as part of uh
0:05:35.120,0:05:39.840
the resort area originally it was
0:05:37.440,0:05:42.880
supposed to be known as the cove
0:05:39.840,0:05:44.000
but it seems that they just uh made an
0:05:42.880,0:05:46.160
announcement
0:05:44.000,0:05:47.360
uh of what the official i guess maybe
0:05:46.160,0:05:49.600
that was kind of the
0:05:47.360,0:05:50.639
unofficial name of it but it is actually
0:05:49.600,0:05:55.120
going to be known
0:05:50.639,0:05:57.680
as the walt disney world swan reserve
0:05:55.120,0:05:58.479
which of course can kind of get a little
0:05:57.680,0:06:01.360
confusing
0:05:58.479,0:06:02.880
because you already have the swan and
0:06:01.360,0:06:03.720
you have the dolphin and now you have
0:06:02.880,0:06:07.280
the swan
0:06:03.720,0:06:08.639
reserve but there was kind of a big
0:06:07.280,0:06:11.759
milestone
0:06:08.639,0:06:14.880
not that long ago because the top floor
0:06:11.759,0:06:17.199
of the project was just topped off
0:06:14.880,0:06:18.720
so that’s a significant milestone in the
0:06:17.199,0:06:21.199
construction
0:06:18.720,0:06:22.160
so it looks like it is still on track to
0:06:21.199,0:06:26.319
be opening up
0:06:22.160,0:06:27.639
in 2021 uh the new tower will have 14
0:06:26.319,0:06:31.840
stories
0:06:27.639,0:06:32.319
349 rooms and 149 of those rooms will
0:06:31.840,0:06:36.080
actually
0:06:32.319,0:06:37.919
be family suites to hold up to six to
0:06:36.080,0:06:40.000
eight people
0:06:37.919,0:06:41.440
this article actually came from the
0:06:40.000,0:06:46.080
points guy
0:06:41.440,0:06:48.800
it’s actually a website dealing with
0:06:46.080,0:06:50.479
vacation club points and and things and
0:06:48.800,0:06:51.759
mostly this was talk the article was
0:06:50.479,0:06:54.560
talking about with
0:06:51.759,0:06:56.080
um marriott and if you have marriott
0:06:54.560,0:06:58.000
reward points
0:06:56.080,0:06:59.599
they were kind of trying to speculate
0:06:58.000,0:07:02.639
how many points
0:06:59.599,0:07:04.400
uh a room would be because for
0:07:02.639,0:07:06.400
people that aren’t part of you know like
0:07:04.400,0:07:08.639
the disney vacation club if you go down
0:07:06.400,0:07:11.120
to disney you’re usually paying cash
0:07:08.639,0:07:11.919
for a room so the article was basically
0:07:11.120,0:07:14.000
uh
0:07:11.919,0:07:14.960
referring to hey if you have points with
0:07:14.000,0:07:16.800
marriott
0:07:14.960,0:07:19.440
you’d be able to go down to disney and
0:07:16.800,0:07:21.360
not you know spend cash you’d spend your
0:07:19.440,0:07:24.560
your vacation club points
0:07:21.360,0:07:25.680
um now you know there’s other
0:07:24.560,0:07:29.759
construction that
0:07:25.680,0:07:31.680
that’s been going on um in 2019 disney
0:07:29.759,0:07:36.000
actually opened
0:07:31.680,0:07:38.560
two new resorts in uh you had the disney
0:07:36.000,0:07:39.840
riviera resort and then they also had
0:07:38.560,0:07:43.440
built a tower
0:07:39.840,0:07:44.560
um at coronado springs obviously the big
0:07:43.440,0:07:48.400
hotel that
0:07:44.560,0:07:50.319
we’re excited about is the star wars uh
0:07:48.400,0:07:51.759
resort that is you know under
0:07:50.319,0:07:56.080
construction and
0:07:51.759,0:07:58.319
hopefully still planning to open in 2021
0:07:56.080,0:07:59.599
there was also a new disney vacation
0:07:58.319,0:08:02.319
club resort
0:07:59.599,0:08:02.800
uh that was going to be a nature themed
0:08:02.319,0:08:05.199
uh
0:08:02.800,0:08:07.680
called reflections and that was supposed
0:08:05.199,0:08:10.000
to be opening up in 2022
0:08:07.680,0:08:11.199
but as of right now most of that
0:08:10.000,0:08:14.560
construction has
0:08:11.199,0:08:15.039
has halted because of you know covet
0:08:14.560,0:08:17.680
going
0:08:15.039,0:08:19.759
you know going on so kind of exciting
0:08:17.680,0:08:22.400
for people that aren’t
0:08:19.759,0:08:23.440
ones that normally stay on disney resort
0:08:22.400,0:08:26.000
property here’s
0:08:23.440,0:08:27.680
you know an addition to the swan and
0:08:26.000,0:08:29.440
dolphin which i personally
0:08:27.680,0:08:31.440
have never stayed at i know you know
0:08:29.440,0:08:34.240
we’ve never uh
0:08:31.440,0:08:34.800
gone to it but it’ll have you know its
0:08:34.240,0:08:38.080
own
0:08:34.800,0:08:39.039
uh restaurant and you’ll be able to if
0:08:38.080,0:08:41.279
you do stay
0:08:39.039,0:08:42.800
at the swan reserve you’ll be able to
0:08:41.279,0:08:45.120
use the amenities
0:08:42.800,0:08:46.160
of the swan and dolphins so their pools
0:08:45.120,0:08:50.480
and you know
0:08:46.160,0:08:53.200
and what not in that area so as um
0:08:50.480,0:08:54.160
vacation club members do we do they
0:08:53.200,0:08:56.160
honor vacation
0:08:54.160,0:08:57.279
club or is it just marriage it’s just
0:08:56.160,0:09:00.240
marriott yeah
0:08:57.279,0:09:01.600
now in a vacation club you can use uh
0:09:00.240,0:09:04.480
the outside
0:09:01.600,0:09:05.519
agency does the outside agency i don’t
0:09:04.480,0:09:08.000
know if they
0:09:05.519,0:09:08.720
handle anything with with swan and
0:09:08.000,0:09:10.480
dolphin
0:09:08.720,0:09:12.800
probably if we wanted to stay there we
0:09:10.480,0:09:13.839
would probably just pay cash we probably
0:09:12.800,0:09:15.920
wouldn’t use our
0:09:13.839,0:09:17.360
points for that are they talking about
0:09:15.920,0:09:20.000
any kind of special
0:09:17.360,0:09:21.040
um amenities that they’re gonna have at
0:09:20.000,0:09:23.440
the new hotel
0:09:21.040,0:09:25.440
or there they have a themed restaurant
0:09:23.440,0:09:29.680
they talked about and a swimming pool
0:09:25.440,0:09:32.320
nothing out of you know like grandiose
0:09:29.680,0:09:33.839
you know out of the the norm for you
0:09:32.320,0:09:36.480
know most resorts down there
0:09:33.839,0:09:38.959
now do the swan and dolphin they get
0:09:36.480,0:09:40.640
what boat service to epcot i think it is
0:09:38.959,0:09:42.240
well they’re actually within walking
0:09:40.640,0:09:44.959
distance of epcot and
0:09:42.240,0:09:46.399
hollywood studios okay so this is so i’m
0:09:44.959,0:09:47.839
assuming this is in that scene
0:09:46.399,0:09:50.240
yeah it’s going to be in the same area
0:09:47.839,0:09:50.959
so you’d you’d have you know the ability
0:09:50.240,0:09:53.760
to just
0:09:50.959,0:09:54.640
walk uh you know to those two parks if
0:09:53.760,0:09:58.240
you wanted to
0:09:54.640,0:10:00.000
okay very cool so
0:09:58.240,0:10:01.440
we’re gonna be talking about mulan we
0:10:00.000,0:10:06.160
got a couple mulan stories
0:10:01.440,0:10:07.760
yes so um mulan uh had
0:10:06.160,0:10:10.160
you know we knew it was coming out this
0:10:07.760,0:10:12.800
weekend it actually uh became available
0:10:10.160,0:10:13.920
yesterday on disney plus if you had the
0:10:12.800,0:10:17.040
subscription
0:10:13.920,0:10:20.240
well not long after it came out
0:10:17.040,0:10:25.279
there was news that if you didn’t pay
0:10:20.240,0:10:28.800
the 29.99 fee to have the access early
0:10:25.279,0:10:31.120
that as of december 4th it would be
0:10:28.800,0:10:32.480
available to anybody that was a disney
0:10:31.120,0:10:35.200
plus subscriber
0:10:32.480,0:10:35.519
um but then what was funny was they had
0:10:35.200,0:10:37.680
the
0:10:35.519,0:10:39.440
the notification up it was actually on
0:10:37.680,0:10:43.200
the the disney
0:10:39.440,0:10:45.519
disney plus uh app and then
0:10:43.200,0:10:47.200
a couple hours later they took off the
0:10:45.519,0:10:48.640
actual date because everybody was
0:10:47.200,0:10:50.399
all excited they were like well if i can
0:10:48.640,0:10:53.440
just wait till december 4th
0:10:50.399,0:10:56.640
you know why spend uh the thirty dollars
0:10:53.440,0:11:00.399
um but then they had taken it down and
0:10:56.640,0:11:02.240
reworded it to say you know
0:11:00.399,0:11:04.399
basically it had said watch with
0:11:02.240,0:11:06.399
premiere access before it’s released to
0:11:04.399,0:11:09.440
all of disney plus subscribers
0:11:06.399,0:11:11.760
but there was no date listed um
0:11:09.440,0:11:12.720
you know at that point but it is
0:11:11.760,0:11:14.959
available now
0:11:12.720,0:11:16.079
on disney plus with the premium access
0:11:14.959,0:11:19.279
you can go and
0:11:16.079,0:11:22.079
and pay your 29.99 and
0:11:19.279,0:11:24.240
and view it and have it attached to your
0:11:22.079,0:11:26.000
library or you can wait till
0:11:24.240,0:11:28.079
you know the beginning of december when
0:11:26.000,0:11:30.720
supposedly it will be available to
0:11:28.079,0:11:32.399
to all disney plus subscribers so
0:11:30.720,0:11:35.279
they’ve been all over the board on this
0:11:32.399,0:11:37.440
yeah yeah they really have any idea of
0:11:35.279,0:11:40.000
what was the driving factor behind the
0:11:37.440,0:11:43.200
indecision
0:11:40.000,0:11:45.200
it’s disney like yeah are they
0:11:43.200,0:11:46.399
are they listening to like viewer
0:11:45.200,0:11:48.560
feedback is it
0:11:46.399,0:11:49.920
yeah i don’t know numbers for disney
0:11:48.560,0:11:50.320
plus and they’re trying to keep them up
0:11:49.920,0:11:52.480
or something
0:11:50.320,0:11:53.360
and and maybe that was the thing they
0:11:52.480,0:11:55.680
saw
0:11:53.360,0:11:57.680
you know you know i don’t know when you
0:11:55.680,0:11:59.040
could go and start subscribing for the
0:11:57.680,0:12:01.519
30
0:11:59.040,0:12:02.160
feet you know i do know some people that
0:12:01.519,0:12:04.160
have
0:12:02.160,0:12:05.360
done it and and watched the movie as of
0:12:04.160,0:12:08.880
yesterday
0:12:05.360,0:12:10.880
a lot of my fellow disney friends
0:12:08.880,0:12:12.160
most of them were like well i’ll just
0:12:10.880,0:12:14.959
i’ll just wait
0:12:12.160,0:12:15.440
um you know we haven’t really decided
0:12:14.959,0:12:17.200
you know
0:12:15.440,0:12:18.800
we i think originally we were like yeah
0:12:17.200,0:12:20.399
we’ll spend the 30 bucks because if we
0:12:18.800,0:12:22.560
were to go to the movies
0:12:20.399,0:12:24.079
it would cost us more i don’t think i
0:12:22.560,0:12:26.160
have a problem spending the 30
0:12:24.079,0:12:27.839
dollars i’m just curious like we know
0:12:26.160,0:12:29.920
they got a huge surge in disney plus
0:12:27.839,0:12:31.839
when they released hamilton because
0:12:29.920,0:12:33.760
they stopped the trials just before
0:12:31.839,0:12:35.680
hamilton came in right because that was
0:12:33.760,0:12:37.440
the other thing too is you could
0:12:35.680,0:12:38.720
unlike netflix where you can get a
0:12:37.440,0:12:42.399
30-day
0:12:38.720,0:12:46.399
um preview disney plus was only
0:12:42.399,0:12:48.240
doing one week right previews
0:12:46.399,0:12:49.760
and a lot of the shows that were coming
0:12:48.240,0:12:52.959
to disney plus
0:12:49.760,0:12:55.120
they weren’t releasing them all at once
0:12:52.959,0:12:56.079
they you know like when mandalorian
0:12:55.120,0:12:59.360
released and
0:12:56.079,0:13:00.320
and most of the other uh original
0:12:59.360,0:13:02.079
content
0:13:00.320,0:13:03.839
they were just releasing one episode a
0:13:02.079,0:13:06.320
week so if you got a trial
0:13:03.839,0:13:07.279
you couldn’t just binge yeah um unless
0:13:06.320,0:13:09.440
you
0:13:07.279,0:13:10.480
signed up for it so it makes after you
0:13:09.440,0:13:13.839
run there so
0:13:10.480,0:13:17.200
is the timing of
0:13:13.839,0:13:19.360
of when it’s going free in december
0:13:17.200,0:13:20.480
it’s roughly six months after the
0:13:19.360,0:13:23.040
hamilton release
0:13:20.480,0:13:24.800
right so is the most popular
0:13:23.040,0:13:26.320
subscription playing a six month plan
0:13:24.800,0:13:27.440
and they’re trying to use this as a way
0:13:26.320,0:13:29.279
to get it no
0:13:27.440,0:13:31.120
i thought you had to do if you didn’t do
0:13:29.279,0:13:34.480
monthly i thought it was a
0:13:31.120,0:13:36.160
year i don’t think they have a six month
0:13:34.480,0:13:37.519
i don’t know it’s been a while i’m just
0:13:36.160,0:13:39.360
curious if they’re using
0:13:37.519,0:13:41.199
this if they have some kind of schedule
0:13:39.360,0:13:42.560
in place now to give you every six
0:13:41.199,0:13:43.440
months they’re going to give you a major
0:13:42.560,0:13:46.800
release
0:13:43.440,0:13:49.120
and use that as the carrot to keep you
0:13:46.800,0:13:50.959
maybe subscribing well we know at some
0:13:49.120,0:13:53.839
point towards the end of the year
0:13:50.959,0:13:54.480
there’s supposed to be other marvel
0:13:53.839,0:13:57.440
things
0:13:54.480,0:13:59.360
you know coming out so is it kind of in
0:13:57.440,0:14:02.480
correlation with that or is
0:13:59.360,0:14:05.600
you know a lot of that pushed out
0:14:02.480,0:14:08.800
you know till till january
0:14:05.600,0:14:10.079
or or next year even you know i’m just
0:14:08.800,0:14:12.240
curious because this seemed
0:14:10.079,0:14:13.360
very undisney-like to be all over the
0:14:12.240,0:14:16.480
place with these
0:14:13.360,0:14:19.120
right and changing it around like
0:14:16.480,0:14:20.959
if you’re gonna say all right or i could
0:14:19.120,0:14:24.079
see okay you do it as of
0:14:20.959,0:14:26.959
september but then you know
0:14:24.079,0:14:27.440
i don’t know six months later maybe do
0:14:26.959,0:14:30.480
it
0:14:27.440,0:14:33.680
yeah for everybody else it seemed very
0:14:30.480,0:14:36.639
yeah not a very long period of time
0:14:33.680,0:14:38.880
in between so why would you you know
0:14:36.639,0:14:41.279
it’s hard to justify spending 30 bucks
0:14:38.880,0:14:42.639
now right when you know in three months
0:14:41.279,0:14:43.199
you’re going to be and i think that’s
0:14:42.639,0:14:46.160
what
0:14:43.199,0:14:46.560
a lot of other people were like well
0:14:46.160,0:14:48.800
yeah
0:14:46.560,0:14:51.040
yeah it would be different if and i
0:14:48.800,0:14:52.959
could almost see them testing the waters
0:14:51.040,0:14:54.639
with this model to see how many people
0:14:52.959,0:14:56.639
buy it for that 30
0:14:54.639,0:14:58.000
to see if it’s a reproducible thing to
0:14:56.639,0:15:01.120
get a first run movie right
0:14:58.000,0:15:01.519
and that’s what you know we had even you
0:15:01.120,0:15:03.440
know
0:15:01.519,0:15:05.440
talked about a couple of different times
0:15:03.440,0:15:08.240
in a couple of different
0:15:05.440,0:15:10.639
instances not just with disney but all
0:15:08.240,0:15:14.160
of these other movies that are doing
0:15:10.639,0:15:16.560
their first run as video on demand
0:15:14.160,0:15:17.360
does it make sense for them to do it
0:15:16.560,0:15:19.600
this way
0:15:17.360,0:15:21.440
do they do it in theaters do you do both
0:15:19.600,0:15:23.680
do you do a hybrid
0:15:21.440,0:15:25.120
yeah because there are people that are
0:15:23.680,0:15:29.360
itching to get out and
0:15:25.120,0:15:32.959
and want to go or or live in areas where
0:15:29.360,0:15:34.880
it’s much safer to go because
0:15:32.959,0:15:36.480
the theater wouldn’t be as crowded they
0:15:34.880,0:15:38.480
wouldn’t come in contact whereas
0:15:36.480,0:15:39.279
somebody that lives in a more populated
0:15:38.480,0:15:40.720
area
0:15:39.279,0:15:42.880
you know it’s funny you mentioned that
0:15:40.720,0:15:44.399
and it just strikes me as though
0:15:42.880,0:15:46.160
everybody’s trying to make this up as
0:15:44.399,0:15:49.600
they go along because nobody
0:15:46.160,0:15:52.240
nobody knows absolutely so
0:15:49.600,0:15:53.600
so we’ve got that settled on on when
0:15:52.240,0:15:54.160
we’re getting mulan and how we’re
0:15:53.600,0:15:56.639
getting it
0:15:54.160,0:15:57.680
so it started as of yesterday started as
0:15:56.639,0:15:59.759
of yesterday
0:15:57.680,0:16:01.120
but there’s been a call for a boycott
0:15:59.759,0:16:05.199
tell us about that
0:16:01.120,0:16:08.880
right so you know there was controversy
0:16:05.199,0:16:11.120
about mulan uh last year
0:16:08.880,0:16:12.000
actually was when it had hacked
0:16:11.120,0:16:13.680
originally
0:16:12.000,0:16:15.040
had surfaced and i believe we even
0:16:13.680,0:16:18.800
talked about it
0:16:15.040,0:16:21.040
last year when they were uh um
0:16:18.800,0:16:23.600
it had come to light so it was an
0:16:21.040,0:16:27.279
interview done in 2019
0:16:23.600,0:16:30.399
um that the star of the movie
0:16:27.279,0:16:32.639
had made an untimely admission that she
0:16:30.399,0:16:37.360
was in full support of the hong kong
0:16:32.639,0:16:41.199
police force that she had posted on
0:16:37.360,0:16:42.560
webo weibo which is a chinese social
0:16:41.199,0:16:45.519
media platform
0:16:42.560,0:16:47.600
kind of like twitter um she had said i
0:16:45.519,0:16:50.639
support the hong kong police
0:16:47.600,0:16:52.639
you can you can all attack me now what a
0:16:50.639,0:16:55.759
shame for hong kong
0:16:52.639,0:16:58.959
so starting in june of 2019
0:16:55.759,0:17:01.040
thousands of people in hong kong beca
0:16:58.959,0:17:03.440
began hosting anti-government
0:17:01.040,0:17:04.880
demonstrations in the streets
0:17:03.440,0:17:07.039
and there were lots of different
0:17:04.880,0:17:09.600
protests there
0:17:07.039,0:17:10.240
was an extradition bill which would have
0:17:09.600,0:17:13.679
made it
0:17:10.240,0:17:15.679
uh legally allow criminal suspects in
0:17:13.679,0:17:19.039
hong kong to be
0:17:15.679,0:17:21.439
brought over to china but the social
0:17:19.039,0:17:23.520
justice movement grew to address general
0:17:21.439,0:17:26.400
government corruption issues
0:17:23.520,0:17:27.520
so basically there was a lot of back and
0:17:26.400,0:17:30.840
forth with
0:17:27.520,0:17:32.400
the government and she came out as as
0:17:30.840,0:17:36.160
pro um
0:17:32.400,0:17:38.559
police at that point and now
0:17:36.160,0:17:39.760
you know unfortunately the internet
0:17:38.559,0:17:41.440
never forgets
0:17:39.760,0:17:43.360
something you know that you said or
0:17:41.440,0:17:44.559
something that you did so now that the
0:17:43.360,0:17:47.679
movies come out
0:17:44.559,0:17:51.440
now there’s actually a uh
0:17:47.679,0:17:56.000
boycott mulan movement where
0:17:51.440,0:17:58.160
you know um different uh fans of disney
0:17:56.000,0:17:59.360
are are calling you know for a boycott
0:17:58.160,0:18:02.640
of the movie
0:17:59.360,0:18:06.559
um just you know because of her
0:18:02.640,0:18:10.320
her stance on things um you know so
0:18:06.559,0:18:13.520
obviously disney plus subscribers
0:18:10.320,0:18:15.760
if you you know pay the extra fee okay
0:18:13.520,0:18:18.000
you’re paying for it but if you wait
0:18:15.760,0:18:21.039
it’s just gonna be part of
0:18:18.000,0:18:23.280
um your subscription
0:18:21.039,0:18:24.080
but you know obviously they’re hoping to
0:18:23.280,0:18:27.360
release it in
0:18:24.080,0:18:29.919
in theaters and other countries so
0:18:27.360,0:18:30.720
what are you really you know boycotting
0:18:29.919,0:18:34.320
unless you just
0:18:30.720,0:18:34.320
don’t pay your thirty dollars now
0:18:34.559,0:18:39.280
you know the other thing about that is
0:18:37.039,0:18:39.280
like
0:18:39.360,0:18:46.080
everything with hong kong and china is
0:18:42.720,0:18:48.640
is really just a disaster i mean
0:18:46.080,0:18:50.080
but it’s such a very different culture
0:18:48.640,0:18:53.360
than what we have over here
0:18:50.080,0:18:54.559
right i could almost and i’m not
0:18:53.360,0:18:57.520
justifying
0:18:54.559,0:18:58.400
what she said or did but i could almost
0:18:57.520,0:19:01.440
understand
0:18:58.400,0:19:04.080
why she did it because
0:19:01.440,0:19:05.280
the chinese government it’s not like
0:19:04.080,0:19:08.320
you’re just
0:19:05.280,0:19:10.400
you know blacklisted right you know
0:19:08.320,0:19:13.039
you’re disappearing you disappear right
0:19:10.400,0:19:13.039
yeah so
0:19:14.240,0:19:21.280
i’m i’m assuming that at some level
0:19:17.360,0:19:23.200
a response from her was required
0:19:21.280,0:19:24.320
if from a question or something like
0:19:23.200,0:19:29.120
that right
0:19:24.320,0:19:31.370
and out of probably fear for her safety
0:19:29.120,0:19:32.559
or at a very minimum
0:19:31.370,0:19:35.440
[Music]
0:19:32.559,0:19:38.080
of fear for her career because had she
0:19:35.440,0:19:41.280
spoke out against the government
0:19:38.080,0:19:44.160
you wouldn’t hear from her again right
0:19:41.280,0:19:46.720
the everyone hearkens back to the
0:19:44.160,0:19:49.520
protests at tiananmen square
0:19:46.720,0:19:51.039
hundreds of students were killed
0:19:49.520,0:19:53.520
hundreds more
0:19:51.039,0:19:54.799
were arrested and many of those never
0:19:53.520,0:19:58.320
saw the light of day again
0:19:54.799,0:20:02.320
right so we can sit here
0:19:58.320,0:20:04.080
in our comfortable american households
0:20:02.320,0:20:07.200
and judge people for the things that
0:20:04.080,0:20:09.120
they say about other cultures like that
0:20:07.200,0:20:10.799
but unless you live a day in the life of
0:20:09.120,0:20:12.960
those people exactly you have
0:20:10.799,0:20:15.760
no idea the pressures that they’re up
0:20:12.960,0:20:18.559
against and the consequences
0:20:15.760,0:20:20.480
that they face if they say the wrong
0:20:18.559,0:20:24.799
thing and that’s the reality
0:20:20.480,0:20:28.799
in in china sadly the united states is
0:20:24.799,0:20:30.640
moving in that direction as well but
0:20:28.799,0:20:31.840
we don’t have the right to judge people
0:20:30.640,0:20:33.600
like that
0:20:31.840,0:20:34.720
and what’s the point of boycotting a
0:20:33.600,0:20:36.080
movie that’s going to be free in
0:20:34.720,0:20:39.440
december anyway right
0:20:36.080,0:20:42.480
right it’s it’s just it’s it it makes
0:20:39.440,0:20:44.159
very little sense people are bored yeah
0:20:42.480,0:20:45.600
yeah and and that’s really what it is
0:20:44.159,0:20:48.880
but
0:20:45.600,0:20:50.000
it is what it is uh hopefully it won’t
0:20:48.880,0:20:52.400
have any
0:20:50.000,0:20:54.000
long-lasting impact on her or her career
0:20:52.400,0:20:56.080
yeah
0:20:54.000,0:20:57.840
i think that was all we had for disney
0:20:56.080,0:20:58.799
detective we’re gonna take a quick break
0:20:57.840,0:21:00.880
and we’ll come back
0:20:58.799,0:21:03.840
with our tales from the edge of the

0:22:12.159,0:22:17.440
go for tails from the edge of the galaxy
0:22:18.320,0:22:22.000
so star wars fans have been patiently
0:22:21.120,0:22:24.640
waiting
0:22:22.000,0:22:27.200
or not very patient for the new trailer
0:22:24.640,0:22:27.840
for the mandalorian season 2 for a while
0:22:27.200,0:22:30.880
now
0:22:27.840,0:22:33.039
so disney had confirmed
0:22:30.880,0:22:34.880
that the show was going to be premiering
0:22:33.039,0:22:36.080
in the october time frame
0:22:34.880,0:22:39.360
and that they were supposed to be
0:22:36.080,0:22:41.760
dropping a trailer in mid-august
0:22:39.360,0:22:43.600
however there’s been radio silence on
0:22:41.760,0:22:46.720
this and
0:22:43.600,0:22:49.679
now a couple of uh or a
0:22:46.720,0:22:51.280
an insider has revealed that she
0:22:49.679,0:22:53.440
believes
0:22:51.280,0:22:54.480
that the studio just didn’t like the
0:22:53.440,0:22:57.840
trailer
0:22:54.480,0:23:01.440
and that they are re-editing it so um
0:22:57.840,0:23:04.400
this comes from grace randolph who
0:23:01.440,0:23:05.280
i guess she’s a comic book writer she
0:23:04.400,0:23:08.720
kind of has some
0:23:05.280,0:23:11.760
insights so she had posted on uh twitter
0:23:08.720,0:23:13.520
that um they were basically uh that the
0:23:11.760,0:23:16.000
trailer was delayed
0:23:13.520,0:23:17.200
because they were doing some re-editing
0:23:16.000,0:23:19.600
uh to it
0:23:17.200,0:23:22.080
then she had said well now they have big
0:23:19.600,0:23:26.320
problems with the season overall
0:23:22.080,0:23:27.919
reshoots but i hear um reshoot
0:23:26.320,0:23:29.760
that they were doing reshoots but that i
0:23:27.919,0:23:32.559
hear there’s a big problem
0:23:29.760,0:23:34.320
but she wasn’t able to say anything else
0:23:32.559,0:23:36.799
about it at the time
0:23:34.320,0:23:38.640
then in a couple of follow-up tweets uh
0:23:36.799,0:23:39.280
she clarified that she does not have
0:23:38.640,0:23:42.880
additional
0:23:39.280,0:23:45.679
info but but cannot offer or i’m sorry
0:23:42.880,0:23:46.080
that she has additional info but she
0:23:45.679,0:23:49.440
can’t
0:23:46.080,0:23:52.159
offer it right now um she was then
0:23:49.440,0:23:53.600
kind of pressed as to you know what the
0:23:52.159,0:23:55.840
big problem was
0:23:53.600,0:23:56.960
and she said disney still has time to
0:23:55.840,0:24:00.320
fix it though
0:23:56.960,0:24:01.919
or paper it over or maybe no one will
0:24:00.320,0:24:05.600
ever know
0:24:01.919,0:24:08.480
um basically her final comment kind of
0:24:05.600,0:24:09.279
gave a hint that there was uh a
0:24:08.480,0:24:12.480
significant
0:24:09.279,0:24:13.200
shift in season two about halfway
0:24:12.480,0:24:16.240
through
0:24:13.200,0:24:19.679
the eight episode run so
0:24:16.240,0:24:23.120
not really sure what any of that means
0:24:19.679,0:24:27.279
um but people have been
0:24:23.120,0:24:30.640
again waiting for this uh season two
0:24:27.279,0:24:31.440
uh trailer to to drop um there was
0:24:30.640,0:24:34.559
actually
0:24:31.440,0:24:36.880
one of the people i i follow on tick
0:24:34.559,0:24:38.240
tock who does a lot of star wars cosplay
0:24:36.880,0:24:41.440
and things like that
0:24:38.240,0:24:43.360
somebody i guess had posted oh the video
0:24:41.440,0:24:45.279
dropped and it was a rick roll
0:24:43.360,0:24:47.440
so it was kind of funny because they
0:24:45.279,0:24:50.000
used a lot of scenes from
0:24:47.440,0:24:52.000
um the first season but kind of you know
0:24:50.000,0:24:53.200
switched them out of sorts so it made it
0:24:52.000,0:24:55.120
kind of look
0:24:53.200,0:24:57.120
like it was something new so it was kind
0:24:55.120,0:24:57.919
of funny you know so everybody’s being
0:24:57.120,0:24:59.760
teased
0:24:57.919,0:25:01.039
um that there is you know isn’t a
0:24:59.760,0:25:04.080
trailer yet but
0:25:01.039,0:25:06.400
as of right now according to disney plus
0:25:04.080,0:25:07.440
it should be the second season should be
0:25:06.400,0:25:10.799
streaming uh
0:25:07.440,0:25:12.720
starting october 30th so well if they’re
0:25:10.799,0:25:14.480
doing reshoots and they’ve got a major
0:25:12.720,0:25:14.960
problem with the direction that it’s
0:25:14.480,0:25:18.400
going
0:25:14.960,0:25:19.360
right that given the amount of visual
0:25:18.400,0:25:21.760
effects that are
0:25:19.360,0:25:23.120
right here that does not give them much
0:25:21.760,0:25:25.840
room at all
0:25:23.120,0:25:27.279
to correct whatever is going on because
0:25:25.840,0:25:29.360
a good portion of the
0:25:27.279,0:25:31.200
episodes have already been shot right
0:25:29.360,0:25:34.880
and the only thing i could think of
0:25:31.200,0:25:35.919
is if they end up only releasing half of
0:25:34.880,0:25:39.200
the season
0:25:35.919,0:25:40.640
yeah because you’re like season break or
0:25:39.200,0:25:42.720
something like that right and if
0:25:40.640,0:25:44.640
that’s where because of it you know if
0:25:42.720,0:25:46.559
any of this
0:25:44.640,0:25:47.840
you know this article you know these
0:25:46.559,0:25:50.480
tweets you know have
0:25:47.840,0:25:52.320
any validity to it it sounds like okay
0:25:50.480,0:25:55.120
they made it through the first four
0:25:52.320,0:25:56.080
episodes everything was okay but five
0:25:55.120,0:25:58.240
through eight were
0:25:56.080,0:25:59.679
and i also have to wonder if this has
0:25:58.240,0:26:03.279
anything to do with
0:25:59.679,0:26:06.400
the rumors of kathleen kennedy’s
0:26:03.279,0:26:08.720
limited departure as well could be it
0:26:06.400,0:26:10.960
might be that she took the
0:26:08.720,0:26:12.000
season storyline in a direction that
0:26:10.960,0:26:14.480
disney
0:26:12.000,0:26:16.080
or whoever is replacing her doesn’t like
0:26:14.480,0:26:17.360
so they want to redo it so they want to
0:26:16.080,0:26:18.720
redo because it wouldn’t be the first
0:26:17.360,0:26:21.520
time they did that i mean
0:26:18.720,0:26:22.880
when they acquired the property the star
0:26:21.520,0:26:25.600
wars property
0:26:22.880,0:26:26.000
they they basically put the foot down
0:26:25.600,0:26:28.480
and
0:26:26.000,0:26:29.279
and shut things down and redid things
0:26:28.480,0:26:31.919
and
0:26:29.279,0:26:32.720
made a lot of very strong armed
0:26:31.919,0:26:34.400
decisions
0:26:32.720,0:26:36.480
to basically show that they were the
0:26:34.400,0:26:38.799
boss now that they owned it
0:26:36.480,0:26:40.960
and a lot of what they did was very
0:26:38.799,0:26:42.720
anti-lucas at the time
0:26:40.960,0:26:44.640
and with kathleen kennedy being a
0:26:42.720,0:26:47.919
holdover from lucas
0:26:44.640,0:26:51.200
thinking very much along the same lines
0:26:47.919,0:26:52.000
they may be trying to exercise that kind
0:26:51.200,0:26:55.360
of brute force
0:26:52.000,0:26:57.440
control again i don’t know i find these
0:26:55.360,0:26:59.520
reports exceedingly frustrating
0:26:57.440,0:27:00.720
right where you don’t get you’re gonna
0:26:59.520,0:27:02.799
you’re gonna drop
0:27:00.720,0:27:07.039
a big thing like that and then not give
0:27:02.799,0:27:09.679
any details on it
0:27:07.039,0:27:12.240
it it draws into question the
0:27:09.679,0:27:14.000
credibility of the source at that point
0:27:12.240,0:27:15.679
you know you have to give something if
0:27:14.000,0:27:19.760
you’re going to drop something like that
0:27:15.679,0:27:21.600
so anyway hopefully uh
0:27:19.760,0:27:23.600
you know after the first season i’m not
0:27:21.600,0:27:26.240
sure how uh disney could do
0:27:23.600,0:27:29.039
anything wrong with mandalorian because
0:27:26.240,0:27:31.440
it was so well received absolutely
0:27:29.039,0:27:33.039
and they also okayed it for a third
0:27:31.440,0:27:35.600
season already so
0:27:33.039,0:27:37.360
right clearly they didn’t have that much
0:27:35.600,0:27:38.880
of a problem with it
0:27:37.360,0:27:40.960
they’ve already given the green light of
0:27:38.880,0:27:44.000
that for a third season
0:27:40.960,0:27:45.520
so we’ll see i just hope that you know
0:27:44.000,0:27:46.960
they don’t miss their deadline and it
0:27:45.520,0:27:49.279
would really
0:27:46.960,0:27:51.840
uh frustrate me if they split the season
0:27:49.279,0:27:54.559
in half and we have to wait
0:27:51.840,0:27:56.000
so anyway that was all we had for tales
0:27:54.559,0:27:57.279
from the edge of the galaxy we’ll be

0:29:10.399,0:29:16.320
go for entertainment news so
0:29:13.520,0:29:16.880
unfortunately we had talked about this
0:29:16.320,0:29:20.159
um
0:29:16.880,0:29:23.279
last week uh the untimely
0:29:20.159,0:29:25.520
passing of chadwick boseman um
0:29:23.279,0:29:28.399
and you know now his death has kind of
0:29:25.520,0:29:31.919
left fans and colleagues and loved one
0:29:28.399,0:29:34.640
you know still in shock from it all
0:29:31.919,0:29:35.919
um and he was you know in the prime of
0:29:34.640,0:29:39.120
his career
0:29:35.919,0:29:42.799
um and especially being part of the
0:29:39.120,0:29:45.200
whole marvel franchise as black panther
0:29:42.799,0:29:46.240
now that kind of leaves you know a tough
0:29:45.200,0:29:49.919
decision
0:29:46.240,0:29:53.039
um for the fate of his character
0:29:49.919,0:29:55.919
uh to t’challa um in future
0:29:53.039,0:29:57.440
black panther movies as well as other uh
0:29:55.919,0:30:00.880
avenger movies
0:29:57.440,0:30:02.720
uh to come about um so
0:30:00.880,0:30:04.159
you know there’s a chance that maybe
0:30:02.720,0:30:07.600
they would recast it
0:30:04.159,0:30:10.799
but obviously fans have expressed um
0:30:07.600,0:30:13.760
a lot of resistance to that option
0:30:10.799,0:30:14.880
there’s also a possibility that leticia
0:30:13.760,0:30:18.240
wright’s character
0:30:14.880,0:30:21.679
shuri become the new black panther which
0:30:18.240,0:30:23.120
could be more of a favorable route
0:30:21.679,0:30:24.799
at least according to a lot of the
0:30:23.120,0:30:26.799
fandom
0:30:24.799,0:30:27.840
obviously studios have dealt with the
0:30:26.799,0:30:30.080
passing of
0:30:27.840,0:30:31.760
main stars before such as when carrie
0:30:30.080,0:30:33.760
fisher passed away
0:30:31.760,0:30:34.799
between the last jedi and rise of
0:30:33.760,0:30:36.960
skywalker
0:30:34.799,0:30:39.200
you have paul walker who was in the car
0:30:36.960,0:30:41.600
crash right in the middle of filming
0:30:39.200,0:30:42.640
the fast and the furious but while both
0:30:41.600,0:30:46.320
death
0:30:42.640,0:30:47.120
deaths were unexpected neither actor was
0:30:46.320,0:30:50.559
the main
0:30:47.120,0:30:52.960
face of the franchise so they could kind
0:30:50.559,0:30:56.320
of work things around so now
0:30:52.960,0:30:58.880
how do you handle you know
0:30:56.320,0:31:00.399
a franchise where this was the the main
0:30:58.880,0:31:04.320
the main character
0:31:00.399,0:31:06.640
um so one of the things that
0:31:04.320,0:31:07.760
um you know this article was talking
0:31:06.640,0:31:10.159
about was that
0:31:07.760,0:31:11.279
it’s not something that you know
0:31:10.159,0:31:13.039
disney’s gonna
0:31:11.279,0:31:15.440
move quickly on they’re gonna take their
0:31:13.039,0:31:18.080
time and fortunately because of
0:31:15.440,0:31:18.640
the pandemic going on disney has times
0:31:18.080,0:31:21.760
there’s no
0:31:18.640,0:31:24.480
rush to go out and and make a movie
0:31:21.760,0:31:25.360
they have time to to make the decision
0:31:24.480,0:31:28.640
um
0:31:25.360,0:31:30.880
but again talking about you know
0:31:28.640,0:31:32.399
what one of the plans can be is that now
0:31:30.880,0:31:35.919
you have a uh
0:31:32.399,0:31:38.799
a recent run on black panther comics um
0:31:35.919,0:31:40.320
so more people are reading about uh you
0:31:38.799,0:31:42.000
know the stories that
0:31:40.320,0:31:43.360
you know have already been been out in
0:31:42.000,0:31:46.080
the comics and
0:31:43.360,0:31:46.640
actually as part of one of the the story
0:31:46.080,0:31:49.200
lines
0:31:46.640,0:31:49.919
t’challa’s sister shuri inherits her
0:31:49.200,0:31:52.159
brother’s
0:31:49.919,0:31:53.600
mantle when he disappears and is
0:31:52.159,0:31:57.600
presumed dead
0:31:53.600,0:32:00.159
so dis so marvel can totally go
0:31:57.600,0:32:00.720
with that route and the other thing as
0:32:00.159,0:32:04.399
well
0:32:00.720,0:32:07.760
is that they can you know actually give
0:32:04.399,0:32:11.039
the fans a potential on-screen
0:32:07.760,0:32:12.480
um you know funeral for t’challa and
0:32:11.039,0:32:16.080
give everybody a chance
0:32:12.480,0:32:19.120
you know to mourn the loss together
0:32:16.080,0:32:21.840
um so obviously
0:32:19.120,0:32:23.360
it’s very fresh in you know in their
0:32:21.840,0:32:26.640
minds i’m sure
0:32:23.360,0:32:27.360
so again nothing has to be decided right
0:32:26.640,0:32:30.880
now
0:32:27.360,0:32:34.159
but obviously a lot of fans have already
0:32:30.880,0:32:35.279
you know started voicing their their
0:32:34.159,0:32:38.480
opinions uh
0:32:35.279,0:32:39.360
online for for this you know taking a
0:32:38.480,0:32:42.399
step back and
0:32:39.360,0:32:43.760
and looking at this it it almost seems
0:32:42.399,0:32:47.279
insensitive
0:32:43.760,0:32:49.679
to be going down this route of uh
0:32:47.279,0:32:51.360
you know where is the franchise going to
0:32:49.679,0:32:53.200
go where’s the story gonna go because
0:32:51.360,0:32:56.000
the tragedy of his death is still so
0:32:53.200,0:32:58.159
fresh in our minds
0:32:56.000,0:32:59.039
but i think it’s kind of important that
0:32:58.159,0:33:02.159
we have
0:32:59.039,0:33:05.840
a path moving forward because
0:33:02.159,0:33:09.039
because of what he made that character
0:33:05.840,0:33:12.000
because of the the cultural significance
0:33:09.039,0:33:14.000
that he imbued that character with and
0:33:12.000,0:33:17.360
the role model aspect
0:33:14.000,0:33:20.640
of what he did with that character
0:33:17.360,0:33:23.200
it’s such a positive role model in
0:33:20.640,0:33:24.559
in such a dark time right now in race
0:33:23.200,0:33:29.919
relations
0:33:24.559,0:33:29.919
that to see that character that he built
0:33:30.159,0:33:35.360
to see that legacy itself silenced
0:33:33.039,0:33:40.159
because of his death
0:33:35.360,0:33:43.679
is is a tragedy in and of itself
0:33:40.159,0:33:45.200
i’d hate to see all the good that came
0:33:43.679,0:33:48.399
out of what he did with that
0:33:45.200,0:33:49.600
character sort of that momentum sort of
0:33:48.399,0:33:52.640
fade away now
0:33:49.600,0:33:53.919
well and black panther 2 was supposed to
0:33:52.640,0:33:56.799
be going into
0:33:53.919,0:33:58.480
post-production i want to say march of
0:33:56.799,0:34:01.760
2022
0:33:58.480,0:34:04.640
so obviously they’re at the
0:34:01.760,0:34:05.120
you know very early stages of probably
0:34:04.640,0:34:07.360
still
0:34:05.120,0:34:11.200
writing you know before they even go
0:34:07.360,0:34:11.200
into post-production so
0:34:11.280,0:34:15.280
you know who knows where they are what
0:34:14.079,0:34:18.480
their timelines
0:34:15.280,0:34:19.040
you know were at you know as of right
0:34:18.480,0:34:22.000
now
0:34:19.040,0:34:23.599
where they are supposed to be so now it
0:34:22.000,0:34:26.879
almost seems like okay
0:34:23.599,0:34:30.480
do we completely stop but like you said
0:34:26.879,0:34:33.599
there was you know you saw it
0:34:30.480,0:34:34.079
you know all over you know social media
0:34:33.599,0:34:37.200
and and
0:34:34.079,0:34:38.639
everywhere just you know what a positive
0:34:37.200,0:34:41.200
effect
0:34:38.639,0:34:42.079
and across the board exactly it was the
0:34:41.200,0:34:45.280
one thing
0:34:42.079,0:34:45.679
you know the what what that character
0:34:45.280,0:34:48.800
did
0:34:45.679,0:34:51.520
in his hands was
0:34:48.800,0:34:52.639
magical it brought people together on a
0:34:51.520,0:34:55.760
scale
0:34:52.639,0:34:56.560
that you’ve never seen before right i
0:34:55.760,0:34:59.839
think from
0:34:56.560,0:35:02.960
any other you know african-american
0:34:59.839,0:35:06.079
or black character in history right
0:35:02.960,0:35:08.800
you know the the the sales
0:35:06.079,0:35:09.599
ticket sales to for the movies right it
0:35:08.800,0:35:11.440
wasn’t just
0:35:09.599,0:35:13.440
you know black people that were going to
0:35:11.440,0:35:16.480
see it everybody everybody was a
0:35:13.440,0:35:18.160
character he he brought such magic to
0:35:16.480,0:35:21.440
that character right
0:35:18.160,0:35:23.440
and and it was especially the way that
0:35:21.440,0:35:24.880
you know and i give credit to marvel too
0:35:23.440,0:35:25.520
because the way that they wrote that
0:35:24.880,0:35:28.400
character
0:35:25.520,0:35:29.200
in they wrote that character in in such
0:35:28.400,0:35:32.720
a way that he
0:35:29.200,0:35:35.839
came into our lives on the
0:35:32.720,0:35:39.440
on the big screen in a way that
0:35:35.839,0:35:42.800
that introduced divisiveness
0:35:39.440,0:35:44.160
and he was affected you know this
0:35:42.800,0:35:46.640
character was affected by that
0:35:44.160,0:35:49.200
divisiveness and overcame it
0:35:46.640,0:35:50.480
and through his ability to overcome it
0:35:49.200,0:35:53.440
and through
0:35:50.480,0:35:54.079
the masterful performance that chadwick
0:35:53.440,0:35:57.440
bose been
0:35:54.079,0:36:00.560
brought to that character it showed us
0:35:57.440,0:36:03.839
that that ability to overcome the
0:36:00.560,0:36:07.200
that divisiveness was within all of us
0:36:03.839,0:36:10.880
and it touched a lot of people and
0:36:07.200,0:36:15.200
it would be a real shame if if that
0:36:10.880,0:36:17.839
you know stop right you know and i think
0:36:15.200,0:36:20.079
the possibility of having shuri take up
0:36:17.839,0:36:22.160
that mantle i think is
0:36:20.079,0:36:23.359
even more uplifting at that point in
0:36:22.160,0:36:26.079
time because now
0:36:23.359,0:36:27.520
you’re you’re you’re showing a whole
0:36:26.079,0:36:30.800
nother set of role models
0:36:27.520,0:36:33.920
right now you have this main
0:36:30.800,0:36:37.359
black woman as the
0:36:33.920,0:36:38.240
the main title and you know not to get
0:36:37.359,0:36:41.760
political
0:36:38.240,0:36:43.040
but given the makeup of our 2020
0:36:41.760,0:36:45.839
election here
0:36:43.040,0:36:47.119
that could be even more monumental and
0:36:45.839,0:36:49.440
earth-shattering
0:36:47.119,0:36:51.920
uh than it would have been without it
0:36:49.440,0:36:54.720
right current circumstances yeah
0:36:51.920,0:36:56.160
so we’ll see we’ll see hopefully marvel
0:36:54.720,0:36:59.280
does the right thing
0:36:56.160,0:36:59.520
and and we can continue with that magic
0:36:59.280,0:37:02.960
i
0:36:59.520,0:37:04.160
i’d hate to see us lose it yeah so the
0:37:02.960,0:37:08.400
batman
0:37:04.160,0:37:08.800
let’s talk about that so filming started
0:37:08.400,0:37:12.079
back
0:37:08.800,0:37:15.359
up on the batman uh for
0:37:12.079,0:37:18.960
warner brothers um and then
0:37:15.359,0:37:22.960
it it stopped
0:37:18.960,0:37:26.480
so uh they actually had had started
0:37:22.960,0:37:27.760
refilming after they had gone on hiatus
0:37:26.480,0:37:30.960
back in march
0:37:27.760,0:37:33.839
after the pandemic had had hit
0:37:30.960,0:37:35.680
and then unfortunately warner brothers
0:37:33.839,0:37:37.599
had confirmed in a statement
0:37:35.680,0:37:39.359
that filming was paused because a member
0:37:37.599,0:37:42.160
of the movie’s production
0:37:39.359,0:37:44.079
had tested positive for coronavirus but
0:37:42.160,0:37:47.680
they wouldn’t comment on
0:37:44.079,0:37:49.839
who the individual was and then
0:37:47.680,0:37:51.280
vanity fair had gotten a hold of a
0:37:49.839,0:37:53.599
statement that
0:37:51.280,0:37:55.680
came out and said a member of the batman
0:37:53.599,0:37:58.480
production had tested positive
0:37:55.680,0:38:00.320
and is isolating in accordance with
0:37:58.480,0:38:03.119
established protocols
0:38:00.320,0:38:04.160
and they were actually the ones that had
0:38:03.119,0:38:08.400
reported that it was
0:38:04.160,0:38:10.480
pattinson who had contracted the virus
0:38:08.400,0:38:11.760
but again warner brothers hasn’t come
0:38:10.480,0:38:15.359
out and
0:38:11.760,0:38:17.920
confirmed that it was him
0:38:15.359,0:38:18.800
so the movie had presu resumed
0:38:17.920,0:38:22.480
production
0:38:18.800,0:38:25.760
at an outside studio in london um
0:38:22.480,0:38:28.079
and you know obviously most of the
0:38:25.760,0:38:28.800
entertainment industry is on shutdown
0:38:28.079,0:38:31.119
there are
0:38:28.800,0:38:32.240
you know some things that are going back
0:38:31.119,0:38:35.520
into
0:38:32.240,0:38:35.920
production at this time so you know slow
0:38:35.520,0:38:38.800
and
0:38:35.920,0:38:39.200
and steady and it’s unfortunate that you
0:38:38.800,0:38:41.280
know
0:38:39.200,0:38:42.960
they started and then you know within a
0:38:41.280,0:38:46.160
couple of days
0:38:42.960,0:38:49.200
had to had to shut down so not sure
0:38:46.160,0:38:50.560
where this puts anything in terms of you
0:38:49.200,0:38:52.720
know the timeline
0:38:50.560,0:38:54.640
i know uh they’ve already released the
0:38:52.720,0:38:57.280
trailer
0:38:54.640,0:38:58.960
for the movie uh we watched it you know
0:38:57.280,0:39:01.440
not that long ago
0:38:58.960,0:39:02.400
and the date you know they have for it
0:39:01.440,0:39:04.800
is
0:39:02.400,0:39:05.920
you know they kind of left it open as to
0:39:04.800,0:39:09.040
when uh
0:39:05.920,0:39:11.119
it would be uh released so i’m not sure
0:39:09.040,0:39:13.920
how far along they are
0:39:11.119,0:39:15.599
in the filming of the movie it didn’t
0:39:13.920,0:39:16.880
you know it didn’t mention it obviously
0:39:15.599,0:39:20.480
they still had
0:39:16.880,0:39:23.119
um stuff to film um
0:39:20.480,0:39:24.000
so not sure again how far this pushes
0:39:23.119,0:39:26.640
back
0:39:24.000,0:39:27.520
you know yeah this is very unfortunate
0:39:26.640,0:39:30.640
and
0:39:27.520,0:39:32.480
hopefully he’s he’s faring well he’ll
0:39:30.640,0:39:34.640
he’ll recover from this without any
0:39:32.480,0:39:37.280
serious issues or anything i mean we’re
0:39:34.640,0:39:38.800
this really highlights the the state
0:39:37.280,0:39:40.960
that we’re in right now with this
0:39:38.800,0:39:43.119
pandemic and how fragile
0:39:40.960,0:39:44.079
things still aren’t well and just you
0:39:43.119,0:39:47.280
know this week
0:39:44.079,0:39:48.320
um it was reported that the rock uh
0:39:47.280,0:39:51.280
dwayne johnson
0:39:48.320,0:39:52.960
his wife and his two young kids all
0:39:51.280,0:39:56.240
tested positive
0:39:52.960,0:39:58.880
for uh for the virus um
0:39:56.240,0:40:00.800
and again you know they really didn’t
0:39:58.880,0:40:02.400
say what they were doing they
0:40:00.800,0:40:04.319
basically had said that they were kind
0:40:02.400,0:40:05.280
of all you know on the men unfortunately
0:40:04.319,0:40:08.240
none of them
0:40:05.280,0:40:08.560
had very severe cases of it and that’s
0:40:08.240,0:40:10.800
the
0:40:08.560,0:40:12.480
that’s the one thing uh that robert
0:40:10.800,0:40:14.880
pattinson has going for as far as i know
0:40:12.480,0:40:18.000
he doesn’t have any underlying medical
0:40:14.880,0:40:19.520
uh issues at this point in time so
0:40:18.000,0:40:21.040
he shouldn’t fall into the high-risk
0:40:19.520,0:40:23.280
category but
0:40:21.040,0:40:24.480
you know there’s still a two you know
0:40:23.280,0:40:28.000
point three percent
0:40:24.480,0:40:30.640
chance that people having a severe
0:40:28.000,0:40:31.119
adverse reaction even without underlying
0:40:30.640,0:40:33.599
symptoms
0:40:31.119,0:40:35.680
or that you know their breathing just in
0:40:33.599,0:40:38.000
general going forward
0:40:35.680,0:40:41.119
you know is just never the same after it
0:40:38.000,0:40:42.640
so and this this sort of
0:40:41.119,0:40:44.400
it’s one of those things where you have
0:40:42.640,0:40:46.160
to wonder how is
0:40:44.400,0:40:48.000
movie production going to happen how is
0:40:46.160,0:40:48.400
television production going to happen
0:40:48.000,0:40:51.119
how
0:40:48.400,0:40:52.000
are factories going to handle things you
0:40:51.119,0:40:53.920
know
0:40:52.000,0:40:55.040
this just really highlights the fact
0:40:53.920,0:40:56.640
that
0:40:55.040,0:40:58.480
they were taking all the necessary
0:40:56.640,0:41:02.000
precautions that they needed they were
0:40:58.480,0:41:06.079
filming it an outdoor set
0:41:02.000,0:41:08.240
right um and this this still happens so
0:41:06.079,0:41:09.440
it really just highlights how scary this
0:41:08.240,0:41:12.319
situation is right now
0:41:09.440,0:41:15.359
but you know we wish him well and we
0:41:12.319,0:41:16.800
wish him a speedy recovery from this
0:41:15.359,0:41:19.119
and that was all we had for our
0:41:16.800,0:41:20.880
entertainment news of the week
0:41:19.119,0:41:22.480
yep uh we’ll take a quick break and
0:41:20.880,0:41:24.800
we’ll come back with our insightful
0:41:22.480,0:41:28.720
picks of the week
0:41:24.800,0:41:32.480
[Applause]
0:41:28.720,0:41:32.480
go for your insightful pick
0:41:32.640,0:41:38.400
uh so my insightful pick is a
0:41:36.480,0:41:40.400
documentary
0:41:38.400,0:41:42.960
oh see now you’re really working my side
0:41:40.400,0:41:42.960
of the street
0:41:43.680,0:41:48.560
but it’s a disney one so you don’t work
0:41:45.920,0:41:50.800
on that side of the street you say
0:41:48.560,0:41:52.079
you stay on one side i stay on the other
0:41:50.800,0:41:54.319
um
0:41:52.079,0:41:55.119
so the documentary that we had that i
0:41:54.319,0:41:58.400
had done
0:41:55.119,0:41:58.880
um as my insightful pick a couple weeks
0:41:58.400,0:42:02.160
back
0:41:58.880,0:42:04.880
howard um was done by
0:42:02.160,0:42:06.240
uh don han and this was actually a
0:42:04.880,0:42:11.359
documentary that he did
0:42:06.240,0:42:14.640
before howard um that came out in 2009
0:42:11.359,0:42:17.440
um and it was actually done
0:42:14.640,0:42:19.599
he had produced it along with another
0:42:17.440,0:42:22.720
former disney executive
0:42:19.599,0:42:24.640
peter schneider the film documents the
0:42:22.720,0:42:26.319
history of the walt disney feature
0:42:24.640,0:42:29.359
animation department
0:42:26.319,0:42:32.240
from 1984 to 1994
0:42:29.359,0:42:34.400
covering the rise of the period that is
0:42:32.240,0:42:37.599
often called the disney renaissance
0:42:34.400,0:42:40.800
and this was actually something that um
0:42:37.599,0:42:42.800
we in the the documentary howard
0:42:40.800,0:42:44.800
they talk about because he you know
0:42:42.800,0:42:47.920
howard ashman was part of
0:42:44.800,0:42:48.960
the whole renaissance period um so this
0:42:47.920,0:42:52.160
kind of takes you
0:42:48.960,0:42:55.760
up from you know the
0:42:52.160,0:42:59.359
the early 80s uh to the mid 90s
0:42:55.760,0:43:02.079
and how the shift of everything happened
0:42:59.359,0:43:03.599
what’s interesting is the film uses no
0:43:02.079,0:43:06.880
on-camera interviews
0:43:03.599,0:43:08.240
instead it uses a lot of archival
0:43:06.880,0:43:12.000
interviews
0:43:08.240,0:43:15.520
press kit footage and uh
0:43:12.000,0:43:18.640
other uh films um that were taken
0:43:15.520,0:43:19.200
uh uh personal films and video shots
0:43:18.640,0:43:22.319
that were
0:43:19.200,0:43:23.599
often against company policy by other
0:43:22.319,0:43:26.240
cast members of the
0:43:23.599,0:43:28.319
animation studio and kind of puts the
0:43:26.240,0:43:29.200
all together and gives you a timeline of
0:43:28.319,0:43:31.280
everything
0:43:29.200,0:43:33.040
um so it’s it’s interesting because you
0:43:31.280,0:43:34.800
have jeffrey katzenberg
0:43:33.040,0:43:36.079
who was the head of animation at the
0:43:34.800,0:43:38.960
time and you have michael
0:43:36.079,0:43:39.680
eisner and you have frank wells and you
0:43:38.960,0:43:42.960
have
0:43:39.680,0:43:46.319
roy o disney um and
0:43:42.960,0:43:49.200
various different animation uh
0:43:46.319,0:43:49.599
cast members and it kind of talks about
0:43:49.200,0:43:52.480
how
0:43:49.599,0:43:53.359
you know they were kind of at their not
0:43:52.480,0:43:56.880
really their
0:43:53.359,0:43:58.800
their high point in the 80s but then you
0:43:56.880,0:44:02.000
basically had all of these
0:43:58.800,0:44:04.960
kids come in and you know
0:44:02.000,0:44:05.599
they they had this beautiful office on
0:44:04.960,0:44:07.760
disney
0:44:05.599,0:44:09.680
um you know disney studios and basically
0:44:07.760,0:44:13.200
they got moved off-site
0:44:09.680,0:44:15.680
into a trailer um because basically
0:44:13.200,0:44:17.839
at that point in time disney animation
0:44:15.680,0:44:20.560
was kind of just like uh whatever
0:44:17.839,0:44:21.200
you know the parks were really what they
0:44:20.560,0:44:23.200
were
0:44:21.200,0:44:24.400
you know dealing with and then they were
0:44:23.200,0:44:25.839
starting to get into the whole
0:44:24.400,0:44:28.160
live-action
0:44:25.839,0:44:29.280
movie so animation was just kind of like
0:44:28.160,0:44:31.760
uh whatever
0:44:29.280,0:44:33.599
and then they realized no this is really
0:44:31.760,0:44:37.440
where the heart and soul of our
0:44:33.599,0:44:38.800
our company is um so kind of interesting
0:44:37.440,0:44:41.520
to see
0:44:38.800,0:44:42.800
you know all of these movies that kind
0:44:41.520,0:44:45.599
of came out and
0:44:42.800,0:44:48.000
you know it’s funny because you know
0:44:45.599,0:44:50.560
maddie and i have our little movie night
0:44:48.000,0:44:51.920
you know throughout the week and we’ve
0:44:50.560,0:44:54.800
having disney plus
0:44:51.920,0:44:57.440
we’ve gone through all of you know the
0:44:54.800,0:44:59.760
the animated movies and you can see
0:44:57.440,0:45:01.119
how you know the very early ones were
0:44:59.760,0:45:03.520
you know like
0:45:01.119,0:45:05.599
our classics and then you kind of get to
0:45:03.520,0:45:06.960
the time period of the 70s and 80s and
0:45:05.599,0:45:10.319
you’re like
0:45:06.960,0:45:13.359
wow these are kind of scary and
0:45:10.319,0:45:14.000
sucky like they’re they’re not what you
0:45:13.359,0:45:17.040
know
0:45:14.000,0:45:19.200
like you can’t put them on the same
0:45:17.040,0:45:20.400
pedestal you know so you can definitely
0:45:19.200,0:45:23.520
see where there was that
0:45:20.400,0:45:26.240
dark time in disney animation
0:45:23.520,0:45:27.200
and then obviously their resurgence and
0:45:26.240,0:45:29.440
you know they’ve been
0:45:27.200,0:45:31.040
pretty much on top you know since then
0:45:29.440,0:45:34.560
so interesting to
0:45:31.040,0:45:37.520
to hear um you know
0:45:34.560,0:45:38.079
from from the cast members and and you
0:45:37.520,0:45:40.800
know
0:45:38.079,0:45:41.280
different interviews and things and um
0:45:40.800,0:45:43.280
you know
0:45:41.280,0:45:45.359
it’s funny you know like there were
0:45:43.280,0:45:47.200
things that were taped and it was like
0:45:45.359,0:45:49.359
okay are we done now and then you
0:45:47.200,0:45:50.240
totally see somebody’s demeanor change
0:45:49.359,0:45:52.720
once they
0:45:50.240,0:45:53.920
thought the cameras were off after you
0:45:52.720,0:45:56.560
know giving a speech
0:45:53.920,0:45:58.480
of something so very interesting you
0:45:56.560,0:46:00.480
know to see
0:45:58.480,0:46:02.319
where their mindset was and and
0:46:00.480,0:46:02.960
interesting that obviously everything
0:46:02.319,0:46:06.000
kind of
0:46:02.960,0:46:06.720
changed during you know that renaissance
0:46:06.000,0:46:09.119
and has been
0:46:06.720,0:46:10.319
you know like i said going upward ever
0:46:09.119,0:46:15.640
since then so
0:46:10.319,0:46:16.450
okay cool pick thank you
0:46:15.640,0:46:18.079
[Applause]
0:46:16.450,0:46:21.440
[Music]
0:46:18.079,0:46:23.040
so my pick this week uh no surprise is a
0:46:21.440,0:46:26.079
documentary
0:46:23.040,0:46:29.200
um i’m a big history fan
0:46:26.079,0:46:32.480
and uh this is the story of europe on
0:46:29.200,0:46:33.280
amazon prime the series tells the story
0:46:32.480,0:46:36.720
of europe in
0:46:33.280,0:46:38.640
six glossy episodes exploring different
0:46:36.720,0:46:41.520
chapters of its eventual
0:46:38.640,0:46:42.000
eventful history it’s a journey through
0:46:41.520,0:46:44.319
time
0:46:42.000,0:46:47.200
and across space from physical
0:46:44.319,0:46:49.599
beginnings to the first human settlers
0:46:47.200,0:46:50.720
the evolution of european culture and
0:46:49.599,0:46:53.680
religion
0:46:50.720,0:46:56.240
historical achievements in exploration
0:46:53.680,0:46:58.800
technology and politics
0:46:56.240,0:46:59.440
and a daring look at the continent’s
0:46:58.800,0:47:04.400
present
0:46:59.440,0:47:07.520
and future now i will say that uh
0:47:04.400,0:47:07.520
this is a
0:47:07.920,0:47:14.960
it’s a series that takes a surprisingly
0:47:11.359,0:47:18.079
large look at a huge swath
0:47:14.960,0:47:19.599
of mean not having my phone during a
0:47:18.079,0:47:24.559
podcast
0:47:19.599,0:47:25.920
um sorry about that
0:47:24.559,0:47:27.920
so the series itself looks at a
0:47:25.920,0:47:29.040
surprisingly large swath of european
0:47:27.920,0:47:32.240
history
0:47:29.040,0:47:34.640
which you don’t typically see in uh
0:47:32.240,0:47:35.359
documentaries of this nature i mean they
0:47:34.640,0:47:38.319
start out
0:47:35.359,0:47:38.960
back talking about how europe was
0:47:38.319,0:47:42.000
physically
0:47:38.960,0:47:42.720
formed with continental drift then they
0:47:42.000,0:47:44.480
look at
0:47:42.720,0:47:46.880
stone age culture and they move up from
0:47:44.480,0:47:49.760
there and each episode progresses
0:47:46.880,0:47:50.800
at a certain pace up the one thing i
0:47:49.760,0:47:53.760
will say
0:47:50.800,0:47:54.480
is it’s a total propaganda piece for the
0:47:53.760,0:47:57.119
europeans
0:47:54.480,0:47:58.960
okay to the point that they even start
0:47:57.119,0:48:02.240
trying to draw parallels to
0:47:58.960,0:48:05.040
historical alliances of
0:48:02.240,0:48:06.720
the past from five six hundred years ago
0:48:05.040,0:48:09.680
saying that they’re the precursor
0:48:06.720,0:48:11.280
to the european union which is kind of
0:48:09.680,0:48:16.160
ironic because the host
0:48:11.280,0:48:19.280
christopher clark who is a historian
0:48:16.160,0:48:21.280
it mentions multiple times that he’s a
0:48:19.280,0:48:22.240
native of australia you know he was born
0:48:21.280,0:48:24.319
in australia
0:48:22.240,0:48:27.680
and you know he apparently has this
0:48:24.319,0:48:31.040
agenda to push the eu
0:48:27.680,0:48:33.599
but if you can get past
0:48:31.040,0:48:36.559
the propaganda side of things and it’s
0:48:33.599,0:48:39.839
hard at some points because
0:48:36.559,0:48:43.520
they tend to draw
0:48:39.839,0:48:46.480
questionable conclusions and parallels
0:48:43.520,0:48:48.160
to historical events and the european
0:48:46.480,0:48:51.680
union now to try to make the
0:48:48.160,0:48:53.920
eu look good there is a lot of good
0:48:51.680,0:48:56.400
content that’s in there
0:48:53.920,0:48:58.559
they spent a tremendous amount of time
0:48:56.400,0:49:02.800
researching it
0:48:58.559,0:49:04.000
a lot of the footage itself is traveling
0:49:02.800,0:49:08.160
all around europe
0:49:04.000,0:49:08.160
the middle east africa
0:49:08.800,0:49:13.119
they they did a very good job putting it
0:49:11.040,0:49:15.440
together the cinematography was
0:49:13.119,0:49:16.319
surprisingly well done for a small
0:49:15.440,0:49:17.760
budget
0:49:16.319,0:49:19.200
and i’m guessing it’s a small budget
0:49:17.760,0:49:22.400
because you can kind of see that they
0:49:19.200,0:49:22.400
don’t have a lot of
0:49:22.880,0:49:30.000
a lot of staff on hand here um
0:49:26.480,0:49:32.720
the camera angles are kind of funny
0:49:30.000,0:49:33.200
he’s he’s using a background a lot of
0:49:32.720,0:49:36.640
times
0:49:33.200,0:49:39.599
of the parthenon for instance
0:49:36.640,0:49:40.640
and instead of it being a static shot
0:49:39.599,0:49:43.680
the cameraman is
0:49:40.640,0:49:46.480
is literally moving around
0:49:43.680,0:49:48.319
focusing on the headshot but moving
0:49:46.480,0:49:49.839
around so that you literally get to see
0:49:48.319,0:49:52.240
almost a panoramic view
0:49:49.839,0:49:54.000
of the background okay so it’s a very
0:49:52.240,0:49:57.119
interesting approach to doing the
0:49:54.000,0:50:00.240
cinematography which i kind of liked
0:49:57.119,0:50:04.319
but it’s very well presented
0:50:00.240,0:50:06.640
he has a very calming demeanor to him as
0:50:04.319,0:50:10.400
he explains things it’s not this
0:50:06.640,0:50:12.800
monotonous drone that a lot of history
0:50:10.400,0:50:14.000
documentary hosts have so it’s very easy
0:50:12.800,0:50:16.400
to get into the
0:50:14.000,0:50:19.200
documentary and and see what they’re
0:50:16.400,0:50:21.599
using one of the things that i do like
0:50:19.200,0:50:23.680
which i thought was interesting is they
0:50:21.599,0:50:26.640
use a lot of stock
0:50:23.680,0:50:28.559
footage from other documentaries okay
0:50:26.640,0:50:30.640
made by the same company
0:50:28.559,0:50:31.760
um and you’ve seen that a couple of
0:50:30.640,0:50:34.240
times and
0:50:31.760,0:50:35.760
very nice like the history channel does
0:50:34.240,0:50:36.640
that with their documentaries where you
0:50:35.760,0:50:38.400
see the same
0:50:36.640,0:50:39.839
world war ii footage of hitler over and
0:50:38.400,0:50:41.359
over again because there’s a there’s a
0:50:39.839,0:50:44.400
set amount of it
0:50:41.359,0:50:46.079
um but in this case here they’ve they’ve
0:50:44.400,0:50:47.359
done dramatizations on other
0:50:46.079,0:50:49.200
documentaries
0:50:47.359,0:50:50.640
and those dramatizations one happened to
0:50:49.200,0:50:52.480
be about venice
0:50:50.640,0:50:54.079
they borrowed some of that to stick in
0:50:52.480,0:50:56.800
here because it was actually shot
0:50:54.079,0:50:58.000
in venice and and the subject matter in
0:50:56.800,0:50:59.280
that documentary was
0:50:58.000,0:51:01.359
poignant to the topic they were
0:50:59.280,0:51:04.240
discussing so
0:51:01.359,0:51:05.599
i think it’s worth watching uh the story
0:51:04.240,0:51:10.750
of europe
0:51:05.599,0:51:13.700
on amazon prime now so that was all
0:51:10.750,0:51:15.200
[Applause]
0:51:13.700,0:51:18.319
[Music]
0:51:15.200,0:51:19.280
so i think that was all we had today uh
