Normally this time of year, many would be planning to attend MNSSHP, but as we found out months ago, it was being cancelled this year… well now Walt Disney World has just announced modified Halloween happenings throughout the Magic Kingdom for the upcoming Fall season, including the option to wear costumes for the first time ever (outside of the usual exception made for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party!)
From Sept. 15 to Oct. 31 for the first time guests of all ages can wear your funniest, Disney-ist, most creative costumes during Magic Kingdom Park regular operating hours.
A special Halloween-themed cavalcade with Mickey, Minnie, Pluto and pals wearing their favorite Halloween costumes. You may even spot those rascally chipmunks, Chip ‘n’ Dale, in costume over in Frontierland, and look for other Disney character friends dressed up and riding the horse-drawn trolley down Main Street, U.S.A.
Autumn at Walt Disney World Resort wouldn’t be complete without our popular fall treats, such as the famous Pumpkin-spiced Waffle Sundae at Magic Kingdom Park.
There will even be a New Madame Leota Sipper as well!

While Disney’s theme parks are almost all open around the world, the big notable exceptions right now are the theme parks of the Disneyland Resort. The first Disney theme park ever is still closed and there’s been no obvious movement toward opening it as California continues to grapple with the pandemic. In fact, Disneyland cast members recently received an email from the company regarding the situation which is interesting only for how little it says. It’s made clear that not only is there no expectation for cast members to return to the resort in the short term, but the company doesn’t seem to have any long term expectations either.
Several Disney cast members took to social media yesterday and mentioned receiving an e-mail from the company that was meant to update them on their furlough situation. It confirmed that the extended furlough is now expected to last for more than six months, a point that will be hit in mid-September or longer, and that it essentially will continue until further notice.
Just yesterday, The state of California issued new color-coded guidelines for re-opening sectors. California now has a blueprint for reducing COVID-19 in the state with revised criteria for loosening and tightening restrictions on activities. The new website lists the new criteria and which color each county falls into.
It now takes 3 weeks in between each stage and a county can’t jump more than 1 tier at a time.
Orange County, which is in the new Purple stage, is able to open some businesses. However, Theme Parks in the county are not allowed to open yet. OC won’t be able to move to Red stage until the beginning of October, then another 3 weeks to move to Orange. If we follow the new guidelines, theme parks might not be able to reopen at all this year (according to the state website metrics).
Knott’s Berry Farm has opened for in-park dining events, like the Taste of Knott’s, and SeaWorld has reopened today as a zoo and outdoor dining without rides. Disneyland could do the same if they wished to expand outdoor shopping and dining operations. But rides are off the table for the time being.

‘The Mandalorian’ Star Giancarlo Esposito Hints at Moff Gideon’s Darksaber Battles in Season 2

Fans will be seeing a lot more of Giancarlo Esposito in Season 2 of The Mandalorian. In the Season 1 finale, his character, Moff Gideon, emerged from a crashed ship with a black-bladed saber. And according to Esposito, fans will find Moff Gideon using a lot more of that Darksaber in the upcoming season.
Esposito is known for his roles in popular projects like Once Upon a Time and Breaking Bad. But in a recent interview with Collider, the actor revealed how honored he felt to join the Star Wars franchise with The Mandalorian.
“First I have to get beyond the excitement of being in such an iconic piece of material,” Esposito said. “Star Wars is iconic. And would I have liked to have been in a Star Wars movie as opposed to The Mandalorian television show? I think I’ve made this a significantly correct choice.”
In his chat with Collider, Esposito revealed that it wasn’t just the grandeur of Star Wars that drew him into the role of Moff Gideon. He said that the mythology and storytelling aspect of the franchise, combined with the showrunners’ vision that appealed to him most.
“John Favreau, in his great visionary way, has educated himself and partnered with David Filoni,” he said. “So that mythology, that was so connected to what George Lucas loved — so for me, it was an empowering moment. Firstly to get beyond being a part of the franchise and then to realize, I was going to wield a lightsaber.”
The storyline for Season 2 of The Mandalorian is still a mystery, but it will likely focus on Moff Gideon’s quest to acquire The Child, aka Baby Yoda. Esposito will be involved in a lot more of the action this season, and the actor told Collider that he did all the stunts himself.
“I don’t want to allow you to have any spoilers but I did all of my stunt work on my own without a lot of rehearsal,” he said. “Even though it’s a fairly big budget technological piece with the volume and all the things that are going on, sometimes that leaves less time to pay more attention to.”
After seeing Moff Gideon emerge from that crash with Darksaber, fans are anxious to see what he’ll do with it in Season 2. Esposito revealed a few details about his saber stunt work that hint he will be involved in some epic saber battles.
“So having a lightsaber, I have a couple of different ones because of the technology that’s involved,” he said in his chat with Collider. “They sometimes put the saber in and I have a handle only. But in working with that handle, I have to remember that there’s four and a half, five feet more of that saber. It’s the way you handle it, so I had to practice. And sometimes I have a full saber that lights up.”
“I hope I’m not giving too much away in regard to the technology of it,” he continued. “So yes, I had to practice my moves and it’s all in the wrist to allow us to see if that saber is not there — you want to keep your wrist a certain way, so it was a bit complicated.”
The Mandalorian star also admitted that he didn’t hold back during his lightsaber stunt work, which he teases fans will see very soon. But he revealed that in his effort to make the fight scenes realistic, he may have destroyed a prop or two.
“I remember the props guy coming to me and [he] said, “Um, okay so this is our last lightsaber,” recalled Esposito. “Because you’ve got to pull your hits. You don’t want to destroy the technology, but you want it to look real. Isn’t that ultimately what we want? So it was tricky and wonderful and I had to be very attentive.”

Walt Disney Imagineering Portfolio Creative Executive Scott Trowbridge is “The Force” behind the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge lands at both Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Resort in California.
He was involved in every aspect of the creation of Galaxy’s Edge, from the 100-foot-long full-scale replica of Han Solo’s Millennium Falcon to the most minute details, like the hand-painted rock formations on the walls surrounding Docking Bay 7 Food & Cargo.
So if you’re headed to Batuu in the near future, you have a lot to look forward to:
Trowbridge told the D23 Inside Disney hosts that publishing initiatives are one way The Walt Disney Company hopes to expand the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge experience, making Blackspire Outpost even more meaningful for visitors who take the time to read various texts.
He took the opportunity to announce that the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Trading Post collection will include a special Target edition of Star Wars: Myths and Fables. This book includes the “fairy tales, myths, and legends that have been passed down through generations in the world of Star Wars.” He also shared that a special Target edition of George Mann’s Star Wars: Dark Legends will be available in the Trading Post merchandise series.
Both only-at-Target Star Wars books will feature a custom cover and three brand new Batuuvian stories that have never before been shared with the Star Wars fandom.
Continuing his announcements, Trowbridge shared details about the first-ever Star Wars children’s book created by his team, Ellie and Me.
The kids’ story is about two creatures (Ellie and Salju) who “live on Batuu in Blackspire Outpost.” He shared that “these are two characters we first came up with when we were first conceiving the land. We just fell in love with these characters! This is the cutest book that I’ve ever seen.”
Trowbridge said that he is immensely excited about the upcoming Galactic Starcruiser hotel. He said, “Whereas Galaxy’s Edge might be a great way to spend a couple of hours in the world of Star Wars, our Galactic Starcruiser gives people a chance to spend a couple of days in the world of Star Wars aboard our glamorous Starcruiser, The Halcyon.”
Trowbridge continued, “Star Wars has always been a place to experiment with new and innovative forms of storytelling.”
He also stated that if “my barometer of excitement” for other new experiences coming to Galaxy’s Edge in the theme parks is any indication, fans have a lot to be excited about moving forward!
With the Target x Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Trading Post collection hitting store shelves this weekend, it’s time to get your wish list ready. Trowbridge showcased several items fans can expect to see in-stores and online August 30.
Trowbridge quipped, “That opportunity to take a piece of that experience and kind of relive it at home…is great. I wish everyone could go to one of our Galaxy’s Edge parks every day of the year…but, you know, that’s hard.”
The Galaxy’s Edge Trading Post merchandise collection at Target is an exceptional way for the Disney team to bring Batuu to people all over the country, some of whom may have never even had the chance to visit one of Disney’s theme parks before.
Trowbridge also shared that the teams at both Disney and Lucasfilm are striving to constantly “extend the world of Galaxy’s Edge” into people’s homes via various mediums, including books, merchandise, and video games.
Trowbridge also shared some surprising hidden “Easter eggs” from Season 1 of the Disney+ series The Mandalorian. All of these were previously hidden in Blackspire Outpost’s Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities shop.
Trowbridge said, “A place like Galaxy’s Edge wants to always feel like it’s alive and like a place for new adventures to break out at any second.”
He continued, “When the land first opened…for example…a particular helmet and a particular pulse rifle that were there [Dok-Ondor’s] on opening day and nobody really knew what they were or what it meant.”
The artifacts in question were, of course, featured in The Mandalorian later in 2019!

New ‘Haunted Mansion’ Movie in the Works at Disney

Disney is conjuring up a new “Haunted Mansion” live-action movie, based on its 51-year-old Disneyland theme park ride, with “Ghostbusters” writer Katie Dippold attached.
Producers are Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich through their Rideback banner. Lin has extensive producer experience with the “Sherlock Holmes,” “It” and “Lego” franchises. He and Eirich teamed on Disney’s live-action “Aladdin” movie last year.
“The Haunted Mansion” opened at Disneyland in 1969 and was an immediate success, spawning similar rides at Walt Disney World in Florida and Tokyo Disneyland. Patrons are placed in a “Doom Buggy” riding through a haunted house with dozens of supernatural scares.
Disney used the ride as inspiration for its 2003 horror comedy “The Haunted Mansion” with Eddie Murphy portraying a workaholic realtor who buys a mansion that turns out to be haunted. The movie, directed by Rob Minkoff, grossed $182 million worldwide on a $90 million budget.
Disney saw enormous success from its theme park ride “Pirates of the Caribbean,” which opened in 1967 at Disneyland and arrived on the big screen in 2003. The five “Pirates” movies, all starring Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, grossed $1.5 billion domestically and $3.07 billion internationally.
Disney also released the 2002 family comedy “Country Bears” based on the Disneyland attraction. The studio has also finished “Jungle Cruise,” based on the Disneyland ride, with Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt starring. The film is due out on July 30, 2021 — a year after its original release date, which was scrubbed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
