Bag checks are in the news this week in our Disney Detective segment. Disney’s Hollywood Studios is implementing new Artificial Intelligence Bag Check Scanners that have already proven effective in speeding up lines and detecting illicit items such as weapons in Epcot. Then we’ll take a look at bag checks gone wild at Disney when 69 year old Hester Burkhalter was subjected to a bag check that ultimately led to her arrest and a full body cavity search after it was revealed that she was carrying CBD oil into the park. Finally we’ll take a look at the latest movie role that Tom Hanks will be taking on for Disney studios.
In Tales from the Edge of the Galaxy we’ll take a look at just how Star Wars got their titles wrong. A fan video shows that the titles of all nine primary Star Wars movies work much better when they are applied to different movies. The videos gives the alternative titles and their reasoning and will leave you wondering if perhaps there wasn’t a larger theme at play with the naming of the movies.
Entertainment news this week is all about Disney’s latest live action remake Mulan. In an unexpected change of policy speculated on in the podcast a few weeks ago Disney will be streaming the movie on Disney+ but with a catch. While that news was a welcome change of heart to most of us, one theater operator in France didn’t take the news so well. We have that story and his reaction this week as well.
We’ll finish this week up with a bit of a reversal of roles in our Insightful Picks of the Week, with Michelle highlighting a documentary and Joe a surprising non-documentary pick this week.

- Artificial Intelligence Bag Check Scanners Debut at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

- Disney has rolled out the new Artificial Intelligence bag scanners at Disney’s Hollywood Studios this week. The scanners originally appeared at Disney’s Animal Kingdom back on July 11th, and has since been rolled out to the International Gateway entrance to EPCOT and now the main entrance to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
- We spoke with multiple security managers today at Disney’s Hollywood Studios who asked us not to take photos of the setup, but we did have permission to take photos of the very same type of scanners at Disney’s Animal Kingdom as seen below. These are the same scanners recently involved in a situation where a guest attempted to bring two guns into EPCOT.
- The Evolv Express system will not only cut down on the often times large lines to get through the tedious bag check process, it will also allow for more streamlined staffing.
- According to the Evolv Technology website, Evolv Express uses advanced sensors and machine learning to automatically screen for concealed weapons on all employees, contractors and visitors entering your facility without slowing down operations.
- Powered by the Evolv Cortex AI™ Software Platform, Express is the only fast, touchless, free-flow firearm and bomb detection system that screens more than 3600 people per hour (60 people per minute) and gets smarter over time. It keeps high volume entrances flowing by reliably detecting guns and other weapons as visitors walk through at a natural pace.
- By switching to the Evolv Express system, not only does Disney create a more pleasant experience for the guests, but also a more reliable screening and safer experience. Use of this system versus the old bag check used before the parks closed due to COVID-19 also ensures a safer procedure for security Cast Members who are now able to screen from a distance and not have to physically interact with each and every personal item that comes through the screening.
- Grandmother sues Disney World for millions after CBD oil arrest

- A grandmother who was arrested outside Walt Disney World is suing the happiest place on earth with the help of a well-known attorney.
- Hester Burkhalter, 69, was arrested in April 2019 after Disney security found a bottle of CBD oil while searching her purse at a security checkpoint.
- According to TMZ, civil rights attorney Ben Crump just filed a lawsuit against Disney, the Orlando Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department on behalf of Burkhalter.
- Crump is most notably known for representing the family of George Floyd. Floyd was an unarmed Black man in Minneapolis who was killed by a police officer who knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes as Floyd pleaded for his life.
- The TMZ report reads, According to the lawsuit, obtained by TMZ, Hester says she was arrested and detained by cops at Disney World in April 2019 — even though she claims the CBD oil was purely for medical purposes related to her arthritis and didn’t contain THC.
- CBD oil is extracted from the flowers of marijuana plants, but it doesn’t produce a high. Burkhalter said she had a doctor’s note saying it was prescribed for her arthritis.
- Burkhalter went on to state that she panicked while being placed in the back of a police car and began vomiting. She claims that she was denied medical attention and subjected to a miserable 15-hour ordeal.
- The grandmother added that she was humiliated because the officers allegedly made her strip down at the jail to be searched.
- In the suit, Burkhalter is alleging assault and battery, false arrest and imprisonment, defamation and emotional distress among many others, according to Crump’s law firm.
- She is requesting more than $18 million in damages plus additional damages for her husband and other family members who were vacationing at the theme park with her.
- Tom Hanks May Have Landed His Next Disney Role
- https://www.cinemablend.com/news/2551908/tom-hanks-may-have-landed-his-next-disney-role
- https://bit.ly/3gI35kv
- Tom Hanks has given us plenty of memorable performances, whether it be in classic comedies like Splash or Big or in more dramatic films like Philadelphia or The Post. Of course, the actor also has a couple of major Disney roles under his belt through the Toy Story franchise and Saving Mr. Banks, in which he played Walt Disney himself. Now, it would appear the veteran actor is preparing for another Disney project, and it’s a reimagining of a classic.
- Tom Hanks is set to play Geppetto in Disney’s live-action remake of Pinocchio, which will be directed by one of the actor’s biggest collaborators, Robert Zemeckis. According to Deadline, negotiations are still in the early stages, but Hanks has reportedly reached out to Zemeckis to let him know that he’s interested in the role.
- Hanks was originally attached to the role of Geppetto back in 2018, when Paul King was attached to the project as director. But per THR’s Borys Kit, when King departed the project, Hanks reportedly lost interest but, upon hearing of Zemeckis’ involvement, Hanks’ interest was reignited.
- Should Tom Hanks officially sign on for the project, this would mark his fourth collaboration with Robert Zemeckis. The two previously worked together on Forrest Gump, Cast Away and The Polar Express. Hanks would receive Best Actor nominations at the Oscars for his work in the first two films and would win for his performance in Forrest Gump.
- Zemeckis will direct the film from a screenplay by Chris Weitz, who will also produce the film alongside Andrew Miano under their production company, Depth of Field. As of right now, Disney has not announced a release date for Pinocchio.
- Disney’s original Pinocchio film was released in 1940 and told the story of a lonely woodcarver who crafts a wooden puppet and is surprised when a fairy grants his wish for the puppet to brought to life. From there, the cheeky wooden boy finds himself on a wild adventure.
- Tom Hanks is currently coming off war thriller Greyhound, which was released on Apple TV+ after its theatrical release date was delayed. And last year, he gave an Oscar-nominated performance as Mr. Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood and also reprised his fan-favorite role as Woody in Toy Story 4.
- Given Hanks’ ability to blend into almost any kind of role, he should be a great fit for Geppetto. Not only can he bring the necessary enthusiasm that comes with such a magical film, but he can also exude the warmth that the man feels for the wooden boy. And with Hanks reuniting with Robert Zemeckis, the two should be able to continue their positive streak and bring something unique to Disney’s growing stable of live-action adaptations.

- Star Wars Fan Video Proves Why Every Film Has the Wrong Title
- https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-why-every-film-has-wrong-title-tik-tok-video/?fbclid=IwAR2bX4hlYRpm5xRaHPQ8_aS3dllFUMj6EKAUDBs9wyvSCSTo1iUzMYRv2-s

- A new Star Wars fan video makes the argument for why every Star Wars film has the wrong title. The TikTok video from Fake Disney Facts takes a look back at the Star Wars Episodes I – IX, and their titles – and then takes things a step further, by showing how you can actually rearrange the Skywalker Saga titles to fit much better with the actual events of each movie. It’s actually pretty fun and insightful stuff from a true Star Wars fan, presented in the neat little form of a short TikTok video.
- Check out the breakdown of “Why Every Star Wars Film Has the Wrong Title” below, or scroll down for the full breakdown of how the Skywalker Saga movie should be titled, according to Fake Disney Facts:
- Now, here is how Fake Disney Facts says the Star Wars movies should be retitled:
- Episode I
- The Phantom Menace is all about the discovery of Anakin Skywalker as the Chosen One, and his first major victory in battle. Therefore, it’s the true Rise of Skywalker.
- Episode II
- Attack of the Clones is all about the mystery of the Clone Army’s creation, and Darth Sidious making major moves to undermine The Republic, Jedi Order, and path of Anakin Skywalker. In many ways, it’s the true moment of the Sith’s revenge plot coming into view: Revenge of the Sith.
- Episode III
- The big climactic twist of Revenge of the Sith is Order 66 and the assassination of the Jedi. It’s the only real Attack of The Clones moment in the entire Skywalker Saga.
- Episode IV
- A New Hope sees Luke Skywalker become the first real hope for the Jedi, after decades of the Order being in hiding. By Obi-Wan teaching Luke in the now-forgotten Jedi ways, the film is really The Return of The Jedi.
- Episode V
- The Empire Strikes Back is a long chase sequence, but Luke’s part of the story sees him learning the deeper meaning and ways of the Force from Yoda. In terms of story development, it’s the moment The Force Awakens for both Luke and the viewers.
- Episode VI
- In The Return of the Jedi, Yoda dies, and Anakin sacrifices himself in his redemptive moment defeating Emperor Palpatine. As the film ends, Luke really is The Last Jedi (since Leia hasn’t yet been trained).
- Episode VII
- After Luke and the Rebel Alliance end the threat of Palpatine, the Empire survives and evolves into the dreaded First Order. In Episode VII, The Empire Strikes Back with its new super weapon.
- Episode VIII
- The entire theme of Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi is about older figures like Luke and Leia pushing the younger generation (Rey, Poe) to keep the spark of rebellion alive in dark times. With Luke sacrifice, he gives the Resistance A New Hope.
- Episode IX
- The opening crawl of The Rise of Skywalker starts with the often-mocked line: “The Dead Speak!” By bringing back Palpatine as a thought-dead threat still lurking in the universe, the film truly gives us The Phantom Menace.

- Mulan coming to Disney+ as Add-On
- https://comicbook.com/movies/news/mulan-rental-confirmed-to-last-length-of-disney-plus-subscriptio/
- https://bit.ly/2PFvKLg
- On Tuesday, Disney surprised movie fans with the announcement that, after multiple delays in its theatrical release due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, fans will finally get to see Mulan as a “premiere access” release through their Disney+ streaming service. The release will allow subscribers to watch the film from the comfort of their own home beginning September 4th for the price of $29.99. Almost immediately, some subscribers expressed concern about the cost, but now Disney has confirmed that it’s not simply a one-time rental for subscribers. They will have access to the film as long as they remain with Disney+.
- According to Insider, a representative for Disney Plus confirmed that the $29.99 cost is not a one-time rental, saying that Disney+ subscribers “will have continuous access to the film for as long as they remain subscribers to the service.”
- Mulan getting a Video On Demand release is something that comes as a surprise generally, but when one considers the entertainment landscape currently makes a great deal of sense. In a press release, Disney broke down its third-quarter losses due to the pandemic, reporting a $3 billion loss due to the impact to business. Releasing Mulan on VOD via Disney+ is one that will help offset losses stemming from the film’s lack of a theatrical release, though CEO Bob Chapek did note that Mulan will still screen in select markets with widely opened theaters.
- But while Mulan is taking a rather unique approach to release, fans shouldn’t get their hopes up that Marvel’s Black Widow or even The New Mutants which is currently scheduled for theatrical release later in August will take a similar release approach. Chapek explained that Mulan is a one-off, albeit one that they find “very interesting”.
- “We are looking at Mulan as a one-off as opposed to saying there’s a new business windowing model we are looking at,” Chapek explained. “That said, we find it very interesting to be able to take a new offering to consumers at that $29.99 price and learn from it and see what happens not only in terms of the uptick of the number of subscribers we got on the platform, but also the number of transactions we get on that PVOD offering.”
- Mulan is now set for release on September 4th, both on Disney+ and wherever theaters are open.
- ‘Mulan’: Theater Owner Goes Viral by Destroying Film Pop-Up in Response to Disney Moving Premiere to Disney+
- https://popculture.com/movies/news/mulan-theater-owner-goes-viral-destroying-pop-up-move-disney-plus/
- https://bit.ly/31ODY9B
- A French movie theater owner went viral this week after a video of him destroying a Mulan pop-up lobby display surfaced on Twitter. Earlier this week, Disney announced that its live-action remake of Mulan was going straight to Disney+ with a rent upcharge in September, and not just in the U.S., where movie theaters are still closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Disney said the movie will only be released in theaters where Disney+ is not available.
- The video shows the theater owner bashing the cardboard Mulan display with a bat, flattening it to the ground. In the end, he proudly stood on the display’s ruins, with a poster for Warner Bros.’ Tenet on the wall behind him. “The reaction of an operator following the Disney decision,” the French Twitter account Destination Cine captioned the clip.
- The man in the video is Gerard Lemoine, who owns the independent theater Cinepal in Palaiseau, south of Paris. He told Deadline he was surprised by the video’s response. He has grown frustrated by Hollywood since even the movie-loving French are not going to theaters without new products to see. Theaters re-opened in France in June.
- “It’s really a huge effort to stay open right now for most of us, but we were assuming there would be some ambitious movie releases in the coming weeks,” Lemoine explained. “By losing Mulan, we lost the possibility of offering our audiences a long-awaited film that would have helped us after these past hard weeks. It is also a bad message to send to the public [who had been expecting a theatrical release].”
- Lemoine hopes that Tenet, directed by Christopher Nolan, can help bring in audiences. It is scheduled to open in France on Aug. 26, but does not have a U.S. release date at all right now. “We thank Warner a lot for releasing Tenet in late August. But it’s not enough,” Lemoine said. “Studios need to understand that if they cancel these films or put them on platforms, I won’t be able to last very long. I have devoted my life to showing movies and I don’t want to die!”
- Disney will release Mulan on Sept. 4, but only on Disney+. Unlike Hamilton or Artemis Fowl though, Disney+ subscribers will have to fork over $29.99 to the Mouse House. Once the viewer buys it, the film will be available for as long as you have Disney+. The film will still be released theatrically in markets without Disney+, a move that has angered exhibitors in Europe and the U.K., where some theaters have already opened. As one U.K. operator told Deadline, “It’s a f— you to exhibitors.”

- David Foster: Off the Record – Netflix
- https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/david-foster-documentary-1020899/
- It’s been virtually impossible to avoid David Foster for close to five decades. No matter the era, he’s been part of your pop life. Grew up in the Seventies? You probably remember his first hit, “Wildflower,” when he was in Canadian pop-R&B band Skylark; the Tubes’ “She’s a Beauty,” which he co-wrote and produced; and Earth, Wind & Fire’s “After the Love Has Gone,” which Foster co-wrote. In the Eighties, there was Boz Scaggs’ “Jojo,” a slew of Chicago comeback power ballads (“Hard to Say I’m Sorry,” “You’re the Inspiration”), and John Parr’s semi-immortal St. Elmo’s Fire theme, “St. Elmo’s Fire (Man in Motion).”
- The Nineties brought an onslaught of other Foster production fare: Toni Braxton’s “Un-Break My Heart,” Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You,” Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me.” Like we say, you couldn’t avoid the guy. Then again, you may also know him as one of the husbands on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills or as the guy who hit singer and dancer Ben Vereen with his car. (Vereen, who had suffered a stroke after his own car crash that same day, survived.)

0:03:58.480,0:04:05.280
much less hands-on than
0:04:01.920,0:04:09.040
the current uh system because right now
0:04:05.280,0:04:11.280
um without these scanners the security
0:04:09.040,0:04:13.200
uh team is actually going through your
0:04:11.280,0:04:16.479
bags you do go through
0:04:13.200,0:04:19.040
um a metal detector basically
0:04:16.479,0:04:19.840
but if they still find you know metal on
0:04:19.040,0:04:21.680
you then they
0:04:19.840,0:04:23.520
you know would normally wand you down so
0:04:21.680,0:04:26.880
this seems to be
0:04:23.520,0:04:29.360
a much faster method a much safer method
0:04:26.880,0:04:32.000
so disney actually had rolled out these
0:04:29.360,0:04:32.639
at hollywood studios during the week the
0:04:32.000,0:04:35.199
scanners
0:04:32.639,0:04:37.680
actually had already been at animal
0:04:35.199,0:04:41.759
kingdom back on july 11th when they had
0:04:37.680,0:04:44.160
opened and had now also rolled out at
0:04:41.759,0:04:46.479
epcot’s international gateway entrance
0:04:44.160,0:04:48.800
which is the side entrance
0:04:46.479,0:04:50.479
towards the back of the park and also
0:04:48.800,0:04:51.919
now at hollywood studios
0:04:50.479,0:04:53.759
so the person that wrote the article
0:04:51.919,0:04:55.199
said that they were talking to multiple
0:04:53.759,0:04:57.680
security managers
0:04:55.199,0:04:58.960
at hollywood studios and they had
0:04:57.680,0:05:02.080
actually asked
0:04:58.960,0:05:03.680
for people not to take pictures of uh
0:05:02.080,0:05:06.960
the scanner so the setup
0:05:03.680,0:05:10.240
uh was actually um from a different park
0:05:06.960,0:05:13.840
that they were were showing
0:05:10.240,0:05:15.039
in in the article um so not only does it
0:05:13.840,0:05:18.320
cut down
0:05:15.039,0:05:22.400
the wait time but it gives them
0:05:18.320,0:05:25.120
you know much more streamline
0:05:22.400,0:05:26.639
to to be able to check the bags um these
0:05:25.120,0:05:27.360
were actually the scanners that were
0:05:26.639,0:05:30.400
involved
0:05:27.360,0:05:32.160
in a situation um a couple of weeks ago
0:05:30.400,0:05:34.720
where a guest was attempting to bring
0:05:32.160,0:05:36.720
guns into epcot
0:05:34.720,0:05:38.479
so that was fun so the scanners actually
0:05:36.720,0:05:41.039
found um
0:05:38.479,0:05:41.919
you know found the weapons uh so they
0:05:41.039,0:05:43.759
were able to
0:05:41.919,0:05:45.520
stop the guests from obviously bringing
0:05:43.759,0:05:48.880
them in um
0:05:45.520,0:05:51.759
so it’s a a touchless system
0:05:48.880,0:05:53.280
um it it talks about that it can do 60
0:05:51.759,0:05:56.800
people per minute
0:05:53.280,0:05:58.960
uh 3 600 people per hour so
0:05:56.800,0:05:59.919
that you know definitely helps with the
0:05:58.960,0:06:02.880
flow
0:05:59.919,0:06:03.680
of you know people coming into the park
0:06:02.880,0:06:06.639
um
0:06:03.680,0:06:08.400
and you know this way it it seems to be
0:06:06.639,0:06:11.600
much more reliable
0:06:08.400,0:06:14.800
and safer experience and also
0:06:11.600,0:06:16.560
due to covet 19 this way the
0:06:14.800,0:06:18.240
you know cast members can actually check
0:06:16.560,0:06:19.039
bags kind of from afar they don’t need
0:06:18.240,0:06:21.680
to be
0:06:19.039,0:06:23.199
right up on top of the guest as you know
0:06:21.680,0:06:25.759
they’re going through these
0:06:23.199,0:06:27.280
checkpoints so it’ll be interesting to
0:06:25.759,0:06:29.360
you know hear if anybody
0:06:27.280,0:06:31.680
you know has any you know issues with
0:06:29.360,0:06:34.960
them but definitely a way to kind of
0:06:31.680,0:06:37.600
speed the process you know up because
0:06:34.960,0:06:38.400
you know we’ve waited in lines for for a
0:06:37.600,0:06:40.639
while
0:06:38.400,0:06:42.400
um you know they did have an area where
0:06:40.639,0:06:43.039
if you didn’t have any bags you could
0:06:42.400,0:06:45.280
kind of go
0:06:43.039,0:06:46.319
right through now it kind of sounds like
0:06:45.280,0:06:49.199
doesn’t matter
0:06:46.319,0:06:49.919
you all go through at the same time and
0:06:49.199,0:06:52.560
you know
0:06:49.919,0:06:54.080
your party can you know stay together
0:06:52.560,0:06:57.199
the entire time so
0:06:54.080,0:06:59.120
so i know disney has has tried to combat
0:06:57.199,0:07:01.120
the slowdowns of bag checks for quite
0:06:59.120,0:07:02.880
some time
0:07:01.120,0:07:04.479
in fact they went so far as to putting
0:07:02.880,0:07:06.720
the pre-checks in
0:07:04.479,0:07:07.520
um at some of the resorts right so you
0:07:06.720,0:07:09.120
could check that
0:07:07.520,0:07:11.360
before you get on transportation to get
0:07:09.120,0:07:12.560
in right how are they handling are they
0:07:11.360,0:07:14.000
just doing away with all that and
0:07:12.560,0:07:14.479
everyone’s going through these scanners
0:07:14.000,0:07:16.639
now
0:07:14.479,0:07:18.240
i’m not sure i think you know they
0:07:16.639,0:07:21.199
haven’t really talked about it
0:07:18.240,0:07:23.520
yet um you know the pre-checks that was
0:07:21.199,0:07:25.759
really only done for magic kingdom
0:07:23.520,0:07:27.680
okay um and that was done for the
0:07:25.759,0:07:29.360
resorts that were on the monorail there
0:07:27.680,0:07:31.759
weren’t any other
0:07:29.360,0:07:32.639
resort areas that i know of that were
0:07:31.759,0:07:35.680
even
0:07:32.639,0:07:37.919
doing that um so that when you you know
0:07:35.680,0:07:38.720
if you were on the monorail and you were
0:07:37.919,0:07:40.560
at
0:07:38.720,0:07:41.840
um you know one of the resorts on the
0:07:40.560,0:07:43.520
monorail
0:07:41.840,0:07:45.120
before you even got on the monorail you
0:07:43.520,0:07:46.240
went through bag check and then as soon
0:07:45.120,0:07:48.479
as you got off
0:07:46.240,0:07:50.160
where normally you would funnel down
0:07:48.479,0:07:53.120
through the rest
0:07:50.160,0:07:54.960
of the the guests now there was an area
0:07:53.120,0:07:57.120
where you basically just went right to
0:07:54.960,0:07:59.120
the turnstiles
0:07:57.120,0:08:01.360
so now that they have these new systems
0:07:59.120,0:08:03.360
set up i haven’t heard that
0:08:01.360,0:08:05.599
you know about them being at the actual
0:08:03.360,0:08:08.240
resort so i’m guessing at the resorts
0:08:05.599,0:08:09.039
you’re still going through the regular
0:08:08.240,0:08:11.680
system
0:08:09.039,0:08:12.080
you know that they have i assume they’re
0:08:11.680,0:08:15.199
they’re
0:08:12.080,0:08:17.199
staging these ahead of the
0:08:15.199,0:08:18.800
ticket boost as you walk in like they
0:08:17.199,0:08:20.800
were with the bank right too
0:08:18.800,0:08:22.400
right now are they doing away with bag
0:08:20.800,0:08:24.960
checks from what i
0:08:22.400,0:08:27.039
heard from from some people they were
0:08:24.960,0:08:28.720
saying that you know
0:08:27.039,0:08:31.039
security wasn’t even touching anybody’s
0:08:28.720,0:08:31.520
bag like just for safety reasons for
0:08:31.039,0:08:33.360
them
0:08:31.520,0:08:35.519
they don’t want to touch your stuff now
0:08:33.360,0:08:38.320
um so i think
0:08:35.519,0:08:38.839
this is kind of helping because they
0:08:38.320,0:08:41.919
don’t
0:08:38.839,0:08:43.760
want you know their
0:08:41.919,0:08:45.680
their cast having to really come in
0:08:43.760,0:08:47.120
contact with you if they don’t have to
0:08:45.680,0:08:48.800
so now this is giving them an
0:08:47.120,0:08:51.920
opportunity to
0:08:48.800,0:08:53.680
still maintain everything safer you know
0:08:51.920,0:08:55.600
for everybody else now they haven’t
0:08:53.680,0:08:58.240
talked about it going
0:08:55.600,0:09:00.880
into uh the magic kingdom yet so i
0:08:58.240,0:09:03.200
wonder if magic kingdom if they’re still
0:09:00.880,0:09:04.480
doing physical bag checks or what
0:09:03.200,0:09:07.360
they’re you know
0:09:04.480,0:09:08.720
even doing so interesting yeah
0:09:07.360,0:09:09.680
interesting how they’re employing
0:09:08.720,0:09:11.360
technology to
0:09:09.680,0:09:12.880
to solve some of the more common
0:09:11.360,0:09:16.240
problems that came into covet
0:09:12.880,0:09:17.279
yeah so speaking of bag checks
0:09:16.240,0:09:18.800
why don’t you tell us about the
0:09:17.279,0:09:20.560
grandmother who had an unfortunate
0:09:18.800,0:09:22.000
experience yeah this was actually a
0:09:20.560,0:09:24.000
story that i hadn’t
0:09:22.000,0:09:25.040
heard about but you did you had
0:09:24.000,0:09:27.519
mentioned to
0:09:25.040,0:09:29.600
to to me about the story and then lo and
0:09:27.519,0:09:30.240
behold when i went looking it it popped
0:09:29.600,0:09:32.399
up
0:09:30.240,0:09:34.800
so a grandmother who was arrested
0:09:32.399,0:09:37.600
outside of walt disney world is suing
0:09:34.800,0:09:38.800
the happiest place on earth uh happiest
0:09:37.600,0:09:42.399
place on earth
0:09:38.800,0:09:45.640
um so it’s hester burkhalter
0:09:42.399,0:09:47.120
who is 69 was arrested back in april of
0:09:45.640,0:09:49.519
2019
0:09:47.120,0:09:51.040
after disney security had found a bottle
0:09:49.519,0:09:53.360
of cbd oil
0:09:51.040,0:09:54.480
while searching her purse at a security
0:09:53.360,0:09:58.399
checkpoint
0:09:54.480,0:10:00.399
so according to tmz
0:09:58.399,0:10:02.480
civil rights attorney ben crump has
0:10:00.399,0:10:04.640
filed a lawsuit against disney
0:10:02.480,0:10:07.040
the orlando police department and the
0:10:04.640,0:10:10.480
orange county sheriff’s department on
0:10:07.040,0:10:12.880
her behalf he happens to also be
0:10:10.480,0:10:14.880
the attorney who is representing the
0:10:12.880,0:10:17.279
family of george floyd
0:10:14.880,0:10:18.160
um with everything that’s going on with
0:10:17.279,0:10:22.160
that
0:10:18.160,0:10:25.760
so tmz actually had uh reports
0:10:22.160,0:10:28.000
uh had learned that um she
0:10:25.760,0:10:30.880
had been arrested and detained by cops
0:10:28.000,0:10:33.440
at walt disney world in april
0:10:30.880,0:10:35.440
and had claimed that she was only using
0:10:33.440,0:10:38.320
the cbd oil for
0:10:35.440,0:10:40.240
medical purposes and that it was
0:10:38.320,0:10:42.000
actually for her arthritis and that she
0:10:40.240,0:10:45.040
had a doctor’s note
0:10:42.000,0:10:47.519
well you know they had
0:10:45.040,0:10:49.440
questioned her about it they ended up
0:10:47.519,0:10:52.560
bringing her down to the station
0:10:49.440,0:10:52.880
had her strip searched through all of
0:10:52.560,0:10:55.279
this
0:10:52.880,0:10:56.560
all while her family you know was still
0:10:55.279,0:10:59.760
in in the park and
0:10:56.560,0:11:02.480
and everything um so she is
0:10:59.760,0:11:03.440
in the suit she is alleging uh assault
0:11:02.480,0:11:06.480
and battery
0:11:03.440,0:11:08.240
false arrest imprisonment uh defamation
0:11:06.480,0:11:09.040
and emotional distress among other
0:11:08.240,0:11:11.839
things
0:11:09.040,0:11:13.600
and is requesting more than 18 million
0:11:11.839,0:11:16.160
dollars in damages
0:11:13.600,0:11:17.839
plus additional damages for her husband
0:11:16.160,0:11:19.040
and family members who were all
0:11:17.839,0:11:23.040
vacationing
0:11:19.040,0:11:26.560
with her so
0:11:23.040,0:11:30.160
yeah interesting now supposedly
0:11:26.560,0:11:30.560
so you know i think that the charges
0:11:30.160,0:11:33.519
were
0:11:30.560,0:11:34.640
dropped in may of last year after
0:11:33.519,0:11:38.000
everything had happened
0:11:34.640,0:11:42.000
but she’s still going along um
0:11:38.000,0:11:44.880
and as well she should i mean i use cbd
0:11:42.000,0:11:45.519
it’s a derivative of the hemp plant
0:11:44.880,0:11:48.800
right
0:11:45.519,0:11:51.680
same family as marijuana
0:11:48.800,0:11:52.320
the cbd oil is easily obtainable and
0:11:51.680,0:11:54.000
it’s legal
0:11:52.320,0:11:55.600
yeah on the federal level there’s
0:11:54.000,0:11:58.720
nothing illegal about it right
0:11:55.600,0:12:01.600
contains no thc now
0:11:58.720,0:12:02.399
the in the article that i had read the i
0:12:01.600,0:12:05.519
guess there was an
0:12:02.399,0:12:08.560
on-site sheriff county sheriff
0:12:05.519,0:12:11.120
and they did a chemical analysis on site
0:12:08.560,0:12:12.240
once and it came back with zero cb uh
0:12:11.120,0:12:15.760
thc content
0:12:12.240,0:12:17.600
right why he did another one because he
0:12:15.760,0:12:18.720
did a second one and that one came back
0:12:17.600,0:12:22.800
positive
0:12:18.720,0:12:25.200
well thc is the psychotropic
0:12:22.800,0:12:26.000
ingredient that’s in marijuana right
0:12:25.200,0:12:28.399
which is
0:12:26.000,0:12:30.000
a controlled substance under the federal
0:12:28.399,0:12:33.440
under federal law
0:12:30.000,0:12:35.600
so cbd oil is commonly sold i mean you
0:12:33.440,0:12:36.880
can buy it in nutrition stores you can
0:12:35.600,0:12:38.000
buy it off the web you can buy it just
0:12:36.880,0:12:40.160
about anywhere right we
0:12:38.000,0:12:42.000
can get it at our amish farmer’s market
0:12:40.160,0:12:44.639
there’s a book that sells it so
0:12:42.000,0:12:45.440
exactly so there’s nothing illegal about
0:12:44.639,0:12:48.240
cbd
0:12:45.440,0:12:50.639
and in fact the label on the bottle even
0:12:48.240,0:12:53.040
says that there is zero percent thc
0:12:50.639,0:12:54.880
on it right the fact that they went to
0:12:53.040,0:12:58.639
these ridiculously
0:12:54.880,0:13:00.959
extreme measures um i mean
0:12:58.639,0:13:02.320
i could understand questioning it right
0:13:00.959,0:13:05.600
if you if you’re not
0:13:02.320,0:13:07.519
educated on the subject but by the time
0:13:05.600,0:13:08.800
this woman was arrested and taken to the
0:13:07.519,0:13:10.160
police station
0:13:08.800,0:13:12.079
somebody should have known that what
0:13:10.160,0:13:12.560
they were doing was wrong at this point
0:13:12.079,0:13:15.440
right
0:13:12.560,0:13:16.880
like a google search would have answered
0:13:15.440,0:13:19.680
any questions
0:13:16.880,0:13:20.160
within two seconds that everything was
0:13:19.680,0:13:22.720
fine
0:13:20.160,0:13:24.000
the fact that this woman was you know an
0:13:22.720,0:13:27.440
elderly woman
0:13:24.000,0:13:29.680
grandmother from disney is is forced
0:13:27.440,0:13:31.920
to a strip search full body cavity strip
0:13:29.680,0:13:31.920
search
0:13:32.639,0:13:35.760
disney you know whatever this is going
0:13:35.279,0:13:37.519
to cost
0:13:35.760,0:13:39.279
disney needs to pay this because disney
0:13:37.519,0:13:41.120
was in the wrong okay
0:13:39.279,0:13:42.320
and so is the sheriff’s department i
0:13:41.120,0:13:44.000
mean the gershy house department is
0:13:42.320,0:13:45.199
going to try to enforce
0:13:44.000,0:13:47.120
laws that are on the books then they
0:13:45.199,0:13:49.120
have to be aware of these things
0:13:47.120,0:13:50.480
yep so this is this is a big
0:13:49.120,0:13:54.720
embarrassment for disney
0:13:50.480,0:13:56.720
yep so uh what else did we have was that
0:13:54.720,0:13:57.760
we have one more we have tom hanks
0:13:56.720,0:14:01.040
selling his soul
0:13:57.760,0:14:01.519
right yes so tom hanks has obviously
0:14:01.040,0:14:04.800
given
0:14:01.519,0:14:06.079
many memorable performances um you know
0:14:04.800,0:14:09.839
from splash
0:14:06.079,0:14:13.600
and big to the philadelphia the post
0:14:09.839,0:14:14.720
obviously many titles under the disney
0:14:13.600,0:14:18.480
franchise
0:14:14.720,0:14:19.600
such as toy story saving mr banks where
0:14:18.480,0:14:22.320
he actually played
0:14:19.600,0:14:22.880
walt disney himself and now it would
0:14:22.320,0:14:25.519
appear
0:14:22.880,0:14:26.959
that he is going to be in another disney
0:14:25.519,0:14:29.519
project
0:14:26.959,0:14:30.480
and it’s another reimagining of a
0:14:29.519,0:14:33.519
classic
0:14:30.480,0:14:35.920
so tom hanks is set to play geppetto
0:14:33.519,0:14:37.120
in disney’s live action remake of
0:14:35.920,0:14:39.040
pinocchio
0:14:37.120,0:14:41.120
which will be directed by one of the
0:14:39.040,0:14:44.160
actors biggest collaborators
0:14:41.120,0:14:45.279
robert zemeckis so according to deadline
0:14:44.160,0:14:47.360
negotiations
0:14:45.279,0:14:48.800
negotiations are actually still in the
0:14:47.360,0:14:51.360
early stages
0:14:48.800,0:14:53.040
but hanks has reportedly reached out to
0:14:51.360,0:14:55.600
zemeckis to let him know that he
0:14:53.040,0:14:56.800
is interested in the role so hanks was
0:14:55.600,0:15:00.079
actually originally
0:14:56.800,0:15:03.920
attached to this role back in 2018 when
0:15:00.079,0:15:06.480
paul king was actually set to direct it
0:15:03.920,0:15:09.600
but he had actually left the project and
0:15:06.480,0:15:12.480
then hanks actually lost interest in it
0:15:09.600,0:15:13.040
but then once he heard that zemeckis was
0:15:12.480,0:15:16.079
going to be
0:15:13.040,0:15:16.800
involved again he got in touch with him
0:15:16.079,0:15:19.279
and was like yep
0:15:16.800,0:15:20.000
i’m willing to do it um and this will
0:15:19.279,0:15:23.680
actually
0:15:20.000,0:15:26.480
be um the fourth time that they’ve
0:15:23.680,0:15:27.839
uh i’m sorry they’ve worked together
0:15:26.480,0:15:30.639
four times already
0:15:27.839,0:15:32.399
um they worked on forrest gump castaway
0:15:30.639,0:15:35.120
and the polar express
0:15:32.399,0:15:36.560
um and he got you know best oscar
0:15:35.120,0:15:39.279
nominations for
0:15:36.560,0:15:40.399
uh forrest gump so obviously they work
0:15:39.279,0:15:43.360
well together
0:15:40.399,0:15:45.199
um so the film is actually still in the
0:15:43.360,0:15:47.759
screenwriting stage
0:15:45.199,0:15:49.600
they haven’t announced a date or you
0:15:47.759,0:15:52.440
know anything else for it
0:15:49.600,0:15:54.320
um but it’s obviously the remake of the
0:15:52.440,0:15:57.600
1940 version
0:15:54.320,0:16:00.639
uh animated version that disney did um
0:15:57.600,0:16:01.040
disney obviously has you know done very
0:16:00.639,0:16:04.959
well
0:16:01.040,0:16:07.519
with their live adaptations of you know
0:16:04.959,0:16:08.639
classic so this will probably be you
0:16:07.519,0:16:11.600
know another
0:16:08.639,0:16:12.000
one that they’re hoping uh does well and
0:16:11.600,0:16:13.759
uh
0:16:12.000,0:16:15.360
so it’ll be interesting to to see what
0:16:13.759,0:16:17.839
they do with it um
0:16:15.360,0:16:18.720
i’m struggling to see tom hanks as
0:16:17.839,0:16:20.720
geppetto though
0:16:18.720,0:16:22.240
i don’t know i think you know the older
0:16:20.720,0:16:25.040
he gets he’s
0:16:22.240,0:16:25.600
he’s he’s doing okay with it i don’t
0:16:25.040,0:16:28.480
know i
0:16:25.600,0:16:30.079
i guess i mean i guess my i have a very
0:16:28.480,0:16:31.680
classic idea of what
0:16:30.079,0:16:33.680
you know what geppetto looks like and
0:16:31.680,0:16:36.959
sounds like and
0:16:33.680,0:16:39.120
you know yeah we’ll see we’ll see
0:16:36.959,0:16:41.279
i mean he’s he’s an incredibly talented
0:16:39.120,0:16:41.920
actor and he can play just about any
0:16:41.279,0:16:45.519
role
0:16:41.920,0:16:49.279
yeah um i mean when you go from uh
0:16:45.519,0:16:52.000
playing you know somebody buddies to uh
0:16:49.279,0:16:52.720
to to being disney himself yeah that’s
0:16:52.000,0:16:55.199
that’s a
0:16:52.720,0:16:55.759
heck of a career there yeah yeah so
0:16:55.199,0:16:57.199
we’ll see
0:16:55.759,0:16:59.199
we’ll see it should be interesting i
0:16:57.199,0:16:59.759
mean i’ve we’ve liked all of the live
0:16:59.199,0:17:01.600
streams yeah
0:16:59.759,0:17:03.279
all the the different ones where we’ve
0:17:01.600,0:17:04.240
kind of even been like i don’t know if
0:17:03.279,0:17:07.439
this will work
0:17:04.240,0:17:10.799
you know they they do seem to to work
0:17:07.439,0:17:13.280
you know they have that niche
0:17:10.799,0:17:14.000
where there’s something familiar about
0:17:13.280,0:17:16.959
it
0:17:14.000,0:17:18.079
but yet all of them have had something
0:17:16.959,0:17:21.679
different about them
0:17:18.079,0:17:22.640
to make it their own movie well and you
0:17:21.679,0:17:26.319
know after
0:17:22.640,0:17:30.400
uh what was the tv show
0:17:26.319,0:17:30.400
the disney tv show that took all the
0:17:30.840,0:17:34.160
stories
0:17:32.160,0:17:36.080
ever after once upon a time oh once upon
0:17:34.160,0:17:37.440
a time you know after once upon a time
0:17:36.080,0:17:40.559
and seeing the live-action
0:17:37.440,0:17:41.520
adaptation yeah true it’s it’s totally
0:17:40.559,0:17:44.880
believable yeah
0:17:41.520,0:17:47.120
yeah so it’s easy to see that cool
0:17:44.880,0:17:49.280
so that was all we had for our disney
0:17:47.120,0:17:52.880
detectives yeah we’ll take a quick break
0:17:49.280,0:18:01.840
and we’ll return with tales from the
0:17:52.880,0:18:01.840
edge of the galaxy
0:18:04.960,0:18:10.720

0:19:03.000,0:19:11.840
[Applause]
0:19:06.880,0:19:11.840
go for something something star wars
0:19:13.200,0:19:19.120
oh that was funny so there is a star
0:19:16.559,0:19:23.440
wars fan video that proves why
0:19:19.120,0:19:26.000
every film has its wrong title
0:19:23.440,0:19:27.120
okay so you following so far i’m fine
0:19:26.000,0:19:28.000
we’re not gonna watch the video though
0:19:27.120,0:19:29.840
no we’re not gonna
0:19:28.000,0:19:31.840
you don’t need to watch the video so a
0:19:29.840,0:19:33.039
new star wars fan film makes the
0:19:31.840,0:19:35.840
argument for why
0:19:33.039,0:19:36.320
every star wars film has its wrong title
0:19:35.840,0:19:38.080
so
0:19:36.320,0:19:39.679
it was actually a video that was posted
0:19:38.080,0:19:42.960
on tick tock from
0:19:39.679,0:19:45.360
fake disney facts and takes a look at
0:19:42.960,0:19:46.720
the star wars episodes one through nine
0:19:45.360,0:19:48.720
and all their titles
0:19:46.720,0:19:50.160
and then takes things a step further by
0:19:48.720,0:19:53.520
showing how you can actually
0:19:50.160,0:19:54.640
rearrange the star wars saga titles to
0:19:53.520,0:19:56.480
fit much better
0:19:54.640,0:19:58.799
with what actually happened in the
0:19:56.480,0:20:01.679
movies so it’s actually
0:19:58.799,0:20:02.480
kind of funny when when you read through
0:20:01.679,0:20:04.880
um
0:20:02.480,0:20:06.080
through this so here here’s how it you
0:20:04.880,0:20:09.039
know here it goes
0:20:06.080,0:20:11.280
so episode 1 is phantom menace but it’s
0:20:09.039,0:20:13.360
all about the discovery of anakin
0:20:11.280,0:20:15.919
skywalker as the chosen one
0:20:13.360,0:20:16.960
and his first major victory in battle
0:20:15.919,0:20:21.120
therefore
0:20:16.960,0:20:23.840
it really is the rise of skywalker
0:20:21.120,0:20:26.159
okay episode two attack of the clones is
0:20:23.840,0:20:27.039
all about the mystery of a clone army’s
0:20:26.159,0:20:29.440
creation
0:20:27.039,0:20:31.039
and darth sidious making major moves to
0:20:29.440,0:20:33.280
undermine the republic
0:20:31.039,0:20:34.240
jedi order and the path of anakin in
0:20:33.280,0:20:36.320
many ways
0:20:34.240,0:20:38.000
it’s the true moment of the sith’s
0:20:36.320,0:20:41.280
revenging plot
0:20:38.000,0:20:44.400
so revenge of the sith
0:20:41.280,0:20:45.919
episode three the big climatic twist of
0:20:44.400,0:20:49.840
revenge of the sith is order
0:20:45.919,0:20:52.240
66 and the assassination of the jedi
0:20:49.840,0:20:53.200
and it’s the only real attack of the
0:20:52.240,0:20:56.480
clones
0:20:53.200,0:20:59.280
movement in the entire star wars uh
0:20:56.480,0:21:00.240
skywalker galaxy so that’s real so it
0:20:59.280,0:21:04.240
should really be
0:21:00.240,0:21:06.960
attack of the clones so then episode 4
0:21:04.240,0:21:08.559
which is a new hope we get to see luke
0:21:06.960,0:21:10.799
skywalker become the
0:21:08.559,0:21:11.679
first real hope for the jedi after
0:21:10.799,0:21:14.880
decades
0:21:11.679,0:21:17.760
of the order being in hiding obi-wan
0:21:14.880,0:21:18.880
teaching luke in uh the now forgotten
0:21:17.760,0:21:21.200
jedi ways
0:21:18.880,0:21:23.039
should really be called return of the
0:21:21.200,0:21:26.720
jedi
0:21:23.039,0:21:27.919
episode five is uh the empire strikes
0:21:26.720,0:21:30.480
back
0:21:27.919,0:21:32.000
so in a long chase sequence but luke’s
0:21:30.480,0:21:34.159
part of the story sees him
0:21:32.000,0:21:35.679
learning the deeper meaning and ways of
0:21:34.159,0:21:37.919
the force from yoda
0:21:35.679,0:21:39.280
in terms of the story development it’s
0:21:37.919,0:21:42.840
the moment when
0:21:39.280,0:21:44.480
the force awakens for both luke and the
0:21:42.840,0:21:47.440
viewers
0:21:44.480,0:21:50.159
uh episode six return of the jedi yoda
0:21:47.440,0:21:54.000
dies anakin sacrifices himself
0:21:50.159,0:21:56.159
uh in his redempt uh redemptive moment
0:21:54.000,0:21:57.520
defeating emperor palpatine and as the
0:21:56.159,0:22:01.039
movie ends
0:21:57.520,0:22:04.799
luke realized that he is the last jedi
0:22:01.039,0:22:07.840
since leia has not been trained yet
0:22:04.799,0:22:11.039
okay then
0:22:07.840,0:22:14.159
so where are we so that was six
0:22:11.039,0:22:17.600
so seven uh after
0:22:14.159,0:22:19.120
luke and the rebellion alliance and the
0:22:17.600,0:22:22.400
threat of palpatine
0:22:19.120,0:22:25.679
the empire survives and envelops in
0:22:22.400,0:22:26.000
the dreaded first order so that should
0:22:25.679,0:22:29.520
really
0:22:26.000,0:22:32.640
be the empire strikes back
0:22:29.520,0:22:35.679
then we have the whole ryan johnson
0:22:32.640,0:22:36.640
last jedi blah blah blah which you know
0:22:35.679,0:22:38.720
we know sucked
0:22:36.640,0:22:40.880
it’s about the older figures like luke
0:22:38.720,0:22:43.280
and leia pushing the younger generation
0:22:40.880,0:22:44.799
rey and poe to keep the spark of the
0:22:43.280,0:22:49.520
rebellion alive
0:22:44.799,0:22:49.520
and then with luke’s sacrifice he is
0:22:50.159,0:22:55.120
he gives his sacrifice to the resistance
0:22:52.960,0:22:58.480
that is now giving everybody
0:22:55.120,0:23:00.559
a new hope and then finally the opening
0:22:58.480,0:23:01.360
crawl of rise of skywalker actually
0:23:00.559,0:23:04.799
starts
0:23:01.360,0:23:07.679
with the often mocked the dead speak
0:23:04.799,0:23:08.480
by bringing back palpatine as the
0:23:07.679,0:23:10.640
thought
0:23:08.480,0:23:12.000
you know that he was dead but now he’s
0:23:10.640,0:23:16.559
been still lurking
0:23:12.000,0:23:20.000
so that is really the phantom menace
0:23:16.559,0:23:23.360
okay so it kind of
0:23:20.000,0:23:24.159
i think i think they’re all very well
0:23:23.360,0:23:25.919
reasoned
0:23:24.159,0:23:27.360
yeah it kind of when you think about it
0:23:25.919,0:23:30.960
you’re like yeah
0:23:27.360,0:23:32.480
okay yeah sure i still think some of the
0:23:30.960,0:23:35.520
titles just out now
0:23:32.480,0:23:36.559
so don’t worry right i get that too but
0:23:35.520,0:23:40.240
if you had to go
0:23:36.559,0:23:42.400
with what was already existing
0:23:40.240,0:23:43.919
and kind of put it in that order it kind
0:23:42.400,0:23:46.559
of you’re like yeah i could
0:23:43.919,0:23:48.480
i could see that like somebody had some
0:23:46.559,0:23:51.760
time on their hands during quarantine
0:23:48.480,0:23:54.480
so i’ll agree that they work as long as
0:23:51.760,0:23:57.919
we can erase the last jedi
0:23:54.480,0:23:59.840
you know episode 8 from the annals of
0:23:57.919,0:24:01.440
existence
0:23:59.840,0:24:03.440
if we could do that you can name the
0:24:01.440,0:24:06.559
movies you can name them whatever you
0:24:03.440,0:24:06.559
want whatever you want
0:24:06.880,0:24:10.159
hey sometimes it’s a stretch so what can
0:24:08.960,0:24:11.919
i say you know um
0:24:10.159,0:24:13.760
i’m not sure this this helps the
0:24:11.919,0:24:15.360
franchise at this point but it certainly
0:24:13.760,0:24:17.120
puts things into perspective
0:24:15.360,0:24:19.360
something to do during quarantine like i
0:24:17.120,0:24:20.799
said one more way to confuse
0:24:19.360,0:24:22.640
fans who have not been there from the
0:24:20.799,0:24:26.000
beginning right exactly
0:24:22.640,0:24:28.080
just to make it harder okay i guess that
0:24:26.000,0:24:29.440
works
0:24:28.080,0:24:30.799
until they come out with more and then
0:24:29.440,0:24:33.039
we have to come up with right then we
0:24:30.799,0:24:33.039
have to
0:24:34.320,0:24:46.400
let’s take a quick break and we’ll come
0:24:36.000,0:24:49.279
back with our entertainment news okay
0:24:46.400,0:24:51.679
insights into teens a podcast series
0:24:49.279,0:24:54.320

0:25:49.120,0:25:54.799
tell us about mulan so on tuesday
0:25:52.720,0:25:56.080
disney surprised movie fans with the
0:25:54.799,0:25:58.480
announcement after
0:25:56.080,0:26:00.720
multiple delays for the theatrical
0:25:58.480,0:26:03.360
release due to the ongoing
0:26:00.720,0:26:04.640
coronavirus pandemic that fans will
0:26:03.360,0:26:08.000
actually get to see
0:26:04.640,0:26:08.559
mulan as a premier access release
0:26:08.000,0:26:12.320
through
0:26:08.559,0:26:14.720
disney plus streaming service so the
0:26:12.320,0:26:16.159
release will allow subscribers to watch
0:26:14.720,0:26:16.880
the film from the comforter of their
0:26:16.159,0:26:20.240
home
0:26:16.880,0:26:24.320
beginning december 4th now
0:26:20.240,0:26:26.720
it’s not going to be like how hamilton
0:26:24.320,0:26:28.559
or artemis fowl or any of the other
0:26:26.720,0:26:29.360
movies that they’ve released with this
0:26:28.559,0:26:32.960
you actually
0:26:29.360,0:26:36.159
do have to pay a premium
0:26:32.960,0:26:40.159
on top of uh your subscription
0:26:36.159,0:26:43.279
to the service um so it’ll be a one-time
0:26:40.159,0:26:45.919
fee of 29.99
0:26:43.279,0:26:46.640
and it’ll actually not just be a
0:26:45.919,0:26:50.080
one-time
0:26:46.640,0:26:50.960
rental the movie will be attached to
0:26:50.080,0:26:53.120
your
0:26:50.960,0:26:54.240
subscription as long as you have your
0:26:53.120,0:26:56.960
subscription
0:26:54.240,0:26:57.840
um so it’s not just a you know a one and
0:26:56.960,0:26:59.840
done
0:26:57.840,0:27:01.919
watch the movie or have it for just a
0:26:59.840,0:27:02.880
couple of days you will have it for the
0:27:01.919,0:27:06.559
length of your
0:27:02.880,0:27:10.080
actual subscription to disney plus
0:27:06.559,0:27:11.840
um so it’s you know getting its video on
0:27:10.080,0:27:14.880
demand release which is something
0:27:11.840,0:27:18.320
kind of a surprise um you know
0:27:14.880,0:27:19.919
because disney has made numerous
0:27:18.320,0:27:20.960
attempts to try and bring it to the
0:27:19.919,0:27:23.360
theater
0:27:20.960,0:27:24.399
but with everything going on they’ve
0:27:23.360,0:27:26.799
decided
0:27:24.399,0:27:27.600
um you know that it was time to to do it
0:27:26.799,0:27:30.480
on a video
0:27:27.600,0:27:31.440
you know on demand um to help offset
0:27:30.480,0:27:34.399
some of the
0:27:31.440,0:27:35.279
the loss you know lost revenue obviously
0:27:34.399,0:27:38.320
that they’re facing
0:27:35.279,0:27:42.080
uh during everything um you know
0:27:38.320,0:27:44.320
the uh bob chepick the uh disney ceo
0:27:42.080,0:27:45.440
noted that disney you know is still
0:27:44.320,0:27:48.480
planning to
0:27:45.440,0:27:49.919
you know bring it to the screen once you
0:27:48.480,0:27:51.919
know it’s available
0:27:49.919,0:27:53.440
you know to do that once theaters start
0:27:51.919,0:27:55.840
opening um
0:27:53.440,0:27:56.559
but that their plan right now is you
0:27:55.840,0:27:58.720
know
0:27:56.559,0:28:00.480
this is kind of the only film they’re
0:27:58.720,0:28:01.520
planning on doing this with because they
0:28:00.480,0:28:03.520
obviously have a
0:28:01.520,0:28:05.200
lot more movies that are supposed to be
0:28:03.520,0:28:08.000
released and as of right now
0:28:05.200,0:28:08.480
they are still holding out um to release
0:28:08.000,0:28:11.600
those
0:28:08.480,0:28:13.360
you know in the theaters so it’s set to
0:28:11.600,0:28:17.200
be released on
0:28:13.360,0:28:18.960
september 4th both disney plus and then
0:28:17.200,0:28:20.559
if there are theaters that are open by
0:28:18.960,0:28:22.399
then it will be
0:28:20.559,0:28:24.399
you know released to the theaters you
0:28:22.399,0:28:27.279
know as well so
0:28:24.399,0:28:29.840
i think it makes me feel good you know
0:28:27.279,0:28:31.679
i’m going to pretend just for a moment
0:28:29.840,0:28:34.640
that somebody at disney watches this
0:28:31.679,0:28:36.240
podcast because this is exactly
0:28:34.640,0:28:38.159
what we had suggested a couple of
0:28:36.240,0:28:39.600
episodes absolutely we sure did for
0:28:38.159,0:28:40.000
rolanda you know you spent all that
0:28:39.600,0:28:43.039
money
0:28:40.000,0:28:44.799
to produce this movie and
0:28:43.039,0:28:46.480
you can only sit on it for so long
0:28:44.799,0:28:47.039
before you have to get a return on that
0:28:46.480,0:28:49.840
investment
0:28:47.039,0:28:50.159
right right um and it makes sense i love
0:28:49.840,0:28:51.840
the
0:28:50.159,0:28:53.279
the twist that they add to this where
0:28:51.840,0:28:55.600
it’s not just a rental
0:28:53.279,0:28:57.120
right you’re basically buying the rights
0:28:55.600,0:28:58.640
to that while you have a subscription
0:28:57.120,0:28:59.039
right and that was the other thing too
0:28:58.640,0:29:02.000
because
0:28:59.039,0:29:03.200
as news came out first it started off
0:29:02.000,0:29:05.679
with
0:29:03.200,0:29:06.399
20 you know 30 dollars to to just watch
0:29:05.679,0:29:08.159
it
0:29:06.399,0:29:10.159
one time it was like all right well
0:29:08.159,0:29:12.000
that’s not so bad you figure you know if
0:29:10.159,0:29:14.640
we went to the movies to go see it
0:29:12.000,0:29:15.440
we’d be paying probably close to 45
0:29:14.640,0:29:17.919
dollars
0:29:15.440,0:29:18.480
so all right not a bad deal for us and
0:29:17.919,0:29:22.159
then
0:29:18.480,0:29:24.320
they came back and said no it’s gonna be
0:29:22.159,0:29:26.399
part of your library for as long as you
0:29:24.320,0:29:28.960
have and this is the first streaming
0:29:26.399,0:29:30.000
surface service to offer that everyone
0:29:28.960,0:29:31.679
else
0:29:30.000,0:29:33.600
the max you can have it for is maybe a
0:29:31.679,0:29:35.840
week or two weeks and then it’s gone
0:29:33.600,0:29:37.039
right right even even services where
0:29:35.840,0:29:39.200
you’re paying 20
0:29:37.039,0:29:41.200
to get a first run movie yeah the fact
0:29:39.200,0:29:43.919
that i can pay 30 bucks and this
0:29:41.200,0:29:45.200
is attached to my subscription that’s
0:29:43.919,0:29:46.080
one more incentive to keep my
0:29:45.200,0:29:48.720
subscription going
0:29:46.080,0:29:50.159
absolutely so this is a brilliant move
0:29:48.720,0:29:53.279
on disney’s part there
0:29:50.159,0:29:54.960
not only to keep the fans happy by
0:29:53.279,0:29:56.559
getting this these
0:29:54.960,0:29:58.399
movies out there so they can see them
0:29:56.559,0:30:01.760
under the current conditions
0:29:58.399,0:30:04.159
but to incent the viewer
0:30:01.760,0:30:05.840
to keep their subscription by like
0:30:04.159,0:30:06.720
because it doesn’t do them any good to
0:30:05.840,0:30:10.080
do away with it
0:30:06.720,0:30:12.080
right so it just it this was
0:30:10.080,0:30:13.360
this shocks me that disney thought this
0:30:12.080,0:30:15.919
one out this well
0:30:13.360,0:30:18.320
um yeah usually disney is not this
0:30:15.919,0:30:20.399
forthcoming when it comes to
0:30:18.320,0:30:22.320
true you’re you’re they’re usually but
0:30:20.399,0:30:23.120
yeah they’re usually the you know the
0:30:22.320,0:30:26.480
last to
0:30:23.120,0:30:28.480
to do you know anything uh like that so
0:30:26.480,0:30:30.080
it’ll be interesting to see you know how
0:30:28.480,0:30:32.720
well it actually does
0:30:30.080,0:30:33.520
and you know again even though they’re
0:30:32.720,0:30:36.720
talking
0:30:33.520,0:30:37.679
about it you know being the the only
0:30:36.720,0:30:41.360
movie that they
0:30:37.679,0:30:43.279
want to do it for maybe they’ll see
0:30:41.360,0:30:44.559
you know once they see the returns come
0:30:43.279,0:30:46.000
back on this and see how much money
0:30:44.559,0:30:48.399
they’re going to make off of this
0:30:46.000,0:30:50.000
maybe it’ll make sense for them to do it
0:30:48.399,0:30:52.080
for other movies yeah so we’ll see we’ll
0:30:50.000,0:30:55.600
see what else happens you know so it’s
0:30:52.080,0:30:57.200
uh september 4th and i’m sure we will
0:30:55.600,0:30:59.120
you know this was a movie we were
0:30:57.200,0:31:00.559
looking forward to to seeing
0:30:59.120,0:31:05.679
our daughter was actually supposed to go
0:31:00.559,0:31:07.360
on a class trip um
0:31:05.679,0:31:08.880
you know given the nature of the movie
0:31:07.360,0:31:10.799
and what we’re expecting to see from
0:31:08.880,0:31:13.679
this we haven’t seen anything of it yet
0:31:10.799,0:31:16.159
right but this is probably one that
0:31:13.679,0:31:18.720
should it even come out in the theater
0:31:16.159,0:31:19.679
next year say and it’s safe to go back
0:31:18.720,0:31:21.039
to the theaters
0:31:19.679,0:31:22.320
i could totally see us going to the
0:31:21.039,0:31:24.320
theater this is because of the
0:31:22.320,0:31:24.880
experience of seeing this type of moving
0:31:24.320,0:31:28.000
and theater
0:31:24.880,0:31:29.760
right yeah so very cool yeah um
0:31:28.000,0:31:30.559
someone’s not happy about that news tell
0:31:29.760,0:31:33.279
us about that
0:31:30.559,0:31:35.679
sure seems not so a french movie theater
0:31:33.279,0:31:37.360
owner went viral this week after a video
0:31:35.679,0:31:40.480
of him destroying
0:31:37.360,0:31:41.279
a mulan pop-up lobby distray surfaced on
0:31:40.480,0:31:43.360
twitter
0:31:41.279,0:31:44.559
so earlier this week disney had
0:31:43.360,0:31:46.399
announced that
0:31:44.559,0:31:47.760
you know mulan was going to be coming to
0:31:46.399,0:31:50.960
disney plus with the
0:31:47.760,0:31:54.240
rental up charge uh in september
0:31:50.960,0:31:54.720
and just not in the us it was also going
0:31:54.240,0:31:56.880
to
0:31:54.720,0:31:58.399
you know excuse me it was going to be
0:31:56.880,0:32:01.200
wherever disney plus
0:31:58.399,0:32:03.039
uh was available so the video actually
0:32:01.200,0:32:05.919
shows the theater owner bashing the
0:32:03.039,0:32:08.080
cardboard mulan display with a bat
0:32:05.919,0:32:09.679
flattening it to the ground and at the
0:32:08.080,0:32:12.960
end standing you know
0:32:09.679,0:32:15.360
very proudly um you know
0:32:12.960,0:32:16.000
in the ruins uh the reaction of the
0:32:15.360,0:32:19.279
operator
0:32:16.000,0:32:22.480
following disney’s uh decision
0:32:19.279,0:32:26.159
obviously uh you know
0:32:22.480,0:32:28.960
kind of we could understand where
0:32:26.159,0:32:29.760
where he was coming from um you know he
0:32:28.960,0:32:32.320
is
0:32:29.760,0:32:34.559
the owner of an independent theater in
0:32:32.320,0:32:36.799
the south of france and he told
0:32:34.559,0:32:38.240
uh deadline that he was surprised by the
0:32:36.799,0:32:42.480
video’s response
0:32:38.240,0:32:45.760
um and that yeah you see him just
0:32:42.480,0:32:46.320
ripping it to shreds he’s he he’s pretty
0:32:45.760,0:32:49.279
mad
0:32:46.320,0:32:49.279
he you know
0:32:49.919,0:32:53.840
um he said that he’s grown frustrated by
0:32:52.240,0:32:57.279
hollywood ever since
0:32:53.840,0:32:58.960
uh you know french yeah or movies
0:32:57.279,0:33:00.640
you know haven’t been able to to be
0:32:58.960,0:33:04.080
shown in the theaters
0:33:00.640,0:33:05.679
um now even though in france theaters
0:33:04.080,0:33:07.760
actually started opening
0:33:05.679,0:33:09.039
back up in june they just haven’t really
0:33:07.760,0:33:10.799
had anything
0:33:09.039,0:33:12.240
to show because nothing has been
0:33:10.799,0:33:14.320
released
0:33:12.240,0:33:16.720
you know he had said it’s a huge effort
0:33:14.320,0:33:19.120
to stay open right now for most of us
0:33:16.720,0:33:21.120
and we are assuming there would be some
0:33:19.120,0:33:21.840
ambitious movie releases in the coming
0:33:21.120,0:33:24.080
weeks
0:33:21.840,0:33:26.880
but by losing mulan we lost the
0:33:24.080,0:33:28.159
possibility of offering our audiences a
0:33:26.880,0:33:30.320
long-awaited film
0:33:28.159,0:33:31.679
that would have helped us pass these
0:33:30.320,0:33:34.399
hard few weeks
0:33:31.679,0:33:35.120
it is also a bad message to send to the
0:33:34.399,0:33:37.600
public
0:33:35.120,0:33:38.240
who have been expecting a theatrical
0:33:37.600,0:33:42.240
release
0:33:38.240,0:33:44.720
so he wasn’t very happy but
0:33:42.240,0:33:46.399
you know there’s you know other movies
0:33:44.720,0:33:49.279
that are supposed to be
0:33:46.399,0:33:50.159
you know released uh tennant which was
0:33:49.279,0:33:51.600
one that was
0:33:50.159,0:33:54.080
supposed to be one of the first ones to
0:33:51.600,0:33:56.320
be released and you know that’s been
0:33:54.080,0:33:58.880
pushed back that is supposed to actually
0:33:56.320,0:34:00.720
be opening in france later this month
0:33:58.880,0:34:02.559
you know so he basically said you know
0:34:00.720,0:34:05.200
thanking warner brothers for
0:34:02.559,0:34:06.640
still keeping that you know available
0:34:05.200,0:34:08.879
for them to
0:34:06.640,0:34:11.200
you know to show in their theater so
0:34:08.879,0:34:12.079
well and and the man does make a valid
0:34:11.200,0:34:14.240
point
0:34:12.079,0:34:15.520
you know his business is suffering
0:34:14.240,0:34:17.599
tremendously and all
0:34:15.520,0:34:19.359
off theater businesses are suffering
0:34:17.599,0:34:22.879
because of kovid19
0:34:19.359,0:34:23.839
right um and you know we talked about
0:34:22.879,0:34:26.399
this a few
0:34:23.839,0:34:29.119
few weeks ago when you had a couple of
0:34:26.399,0:34:32.399
movie theaters who were colluding to
0:34:29.119,0:34:34.800
not show certain studios right um
0:34:32.399,0:34:35.520
products because they decided to release
0:34:34.800,0:34:39.119
them
0:34:35.520,0:34:41.440
online streaming which
0:34:39.119,0:34:42.720
that decision itself was monumentally
0:34:41.440,0:34:45.200
stupid because
0:34:42.720,0:34:46.639
it’s not going to help you at all yeah
0:34:45.200,0:34:49.440
uh you know those
0:34:46.639,0:34:50.720
especially if if and this is what blows
0:34:49.440,0:34:52.879
my mind is
0:34:50.720,0:34:54.079
they’re up these people are upset
0:34:52.879,0:34:56.000
because
0:34:54.079,0:34:57.839
the movie theaters are releasing through
0:34:56.000,0:35:01.119
an alternative
0:34:57.839,0:35:02.640
uh outlet so they’re gonna ban
0:35:01.119,0:35:04.720
themselves
0:35:02.640,0:35:08.000
right from being a release outlet to
0:35:04.720,0:35:10.640
protest them using an alternate outlet
0:35:08.000,0:35:11.520
which in turn guarantees that they’re
0:35:10.640,0:35:13.200
not going to have
0:35:11.520,0:35:15.680
revenue for that even when the the
0:35:13.200,0:35:16.079
theaters the studios start to move back
0:35:15.680,0:35:19.599
into
0:35:16.079,0:35:21.119
theaters um so
0:35:19.599,0:35:22.720
i understand the frustrations i
0:35:21.119,0:35:26.079
understand the
0:35:22.720,0:35:29.119
the the fear that these
0:35:26.079,0:35:32.400
institutions have at losing the revenue
0:35:29.119,0:35:34.160
to online services but i think they need
0:35:32.400,0:35:36.320
to recognize the fact that this is
0:35:34.160,0:35:40.000
probably not going to be
0:35:36.320,0:35:41.520
a permanent thing this is experimental
0:35:40.000,0:35:44.079
right now they’re going to see if this
0:35:41.520,0:35:46.400
works and even if it does
0:35:44.079,0:35:48.960
moving forward it’s incumbent upon the
0:35:46.400,0:35:52.000
theaters at that point in time to ensure
0:35:48.960,0:35:52.320
the safety of their users absolutely you
0:35:52.000,0:35:54.720
know
0:35:52.320,0:35:55.920
businesses are opening all over the
0:35:54.720,0:35:59.440
place
0:35:55.920,0:36:00.800
under proper conditions and
0:35:59.440,0:36:02.720
theaters are no different theaters are
0:36:00.800,0:36:03.760
going to have to cut back on the number
0:36:02.720,0:36:06.160
of people that they
0:36:03.760,0:36:07.359
see you’re going to have to space it out
0:36:06.160,0:36:10.480
you’re going to have to take
0:36:07.359,0:36:11.839
measures it’s not going to be easy right
0:36:10.480,0:36:15.520
it’s not going to be cost
0:36:11.839,0:36:17.359
effective but if you plan on staying in
0:36:15.520,0:36:18.960
business you’re going to need to take
0:36:17.359,0:36:21.440
certain steps
0:36:18.960,0:36:23.040
you know getting upset because disney’s
0:36:21.440,0:36:26.160
trying to find an alternative way to
0:36:23.040,0:36:29.920
release their products
0:36:26.160,0:36:32.880
it’s not gonna solve anything right so
0:36:29.920,0:36:33.839
anyway he was definitely one angry man
0:36:32.880,0:36:36.480
that’s for sure
0:36:33.839,0:36:36.960
just a little bit uh so that was all we
0:36:36.480,0:36:40.000
had
0:36:36.960,0:36:43.119
for entertainment news
0:36:40.000,0:36:46.320
uh we’ll come back real quick with our
0:36:43.119,0:36:46.320
insightful picks of the week
0:36:47.650,0:36:52.400
[Applause]
0:36:49.920,0:36:53.520
go for your insightful pick so my
0:36:52.400,0:36:56.720
insightful pick
0:36:53.520,0:37:00.079
uh is a documentary that was on
0:36:56.720,0:37:03.280
netflix um entitled david foster
0:37:00.079,0:37:05.280
off the record um so
0:37:03.280,0:37:07.280
you know it was funny as we were talking
0:37:05.280,0:37:08.800
about you’re like who’s david foster
0:37:07.280,0:37:10.720
and it’s one of those things where you
0:37:08.800,0:37:11.839
might not know his name but you
0:37:10.720,0:37:14.800
definitely
0:37:11.839,0:37:17.119
know his music in some way shape or form
0:37:14.800,0:37:19.760
so it’s impossible to avoid
0:37:17.119,0:37:20.960
um you know any of his music because
0:37:19.760,0:37:24.400
he’s been around for
0:37:20.960,0:37:25.040
close to five decades so you know he
0:37:24.400,0:37:27.599
started off
0:37:25.040,0:37:28.079
in the 70s he was actually part of a
0:37:27.599,0:37:31.200
little
0:37:28.079,0:37:34.800
canadian pop r b uh
0:37:31.200,0:37:36.320
band but then he helped uh the tubes
0:37:34.800,0:37:39.599
with she’s a beauty
0:37:36.320,0:37:41.760
he co-wrote and produced that then he
0:37:39.599,0:37:42.960
uh earth wind and fire after the love
0:37:41.760,0:37:46.480
has gone
0:37:42.960,0:37:49.839
uh he co-wrote that in the 80s um
0:37:46.480,0:37:50.560
he did a whole slew of songs with
0:37:49.839,0:37:53.520
chicago
0:37:50.560,0:37:54.560
and actually ushered in their power
0:37:53.520,0:37:57.200
ballad
0:37:54.560,0:37:58.720
uh error and actually was also part of
0:37:57.200,0:38:01.359
the breakup between
0:37:58.720,0:38:03.119
uh peta cetera and the rest of the group
0:38:01.359,0:38:06.240
which was kind of interesting to
0:38:03.119,0:38:09.440
to hear about in this um then
0:38:06.240,0:38:12.880
he you know had a whole bunch of um
0:38:09.440,0:38:15.760
uh saint elmo’s fire the theme
0:38:12.880,0:38:18.240
from from that was written by him then
0:38:15.760,0:38:19.280
the 90s came along and you had tony
0:38:18.240,0:38:21.839
braxton’s
0:38:19.280,0:38:24.160
biggest hit unbreak my heart whitney
0:38:21.839,0:38:27.280
houston’s i will always love you
0:38:24.160,0:38:30.560
celine dions because you loved me
0:38:27.280,0:38:34.000
um he actually um
0:38:30.560,0:38:35.440
helped save benverene’s life by hitting
0:38:34.000,0:38:38.480
him with a car
0:38:35.440,0:38:41.280
uh which is actually a crazy
0:38:38.480,0:38:42.000
story in itself um you know he was out
0:38:41.280,0:38:45.760
driving
0:38:42.000,0:38:47.440
home late and there was a man that came
0:38:45.760,0:38:49.280
in the middle of the street and he hit
0:38:47.440,0:38:52.720
him had no idea who it was
0:38:49.280,0:38:54.720
and and as it turned out um
0:38:52.720,0:38:55.839
ben vereen had actually he was having a
0:38:54.720,0:38:58.400
stroke
0:38:55.839,0:38:59.760
and that’s why he was like roaming the
0:38:58.400,0:39:02.720
street and if
0:38:59.760,0:39:04.240
he hadn’t hit him with his car and
0:39:02.720,0:39:06.560
gotten him to the hospital
0:39:04.240,0:39:08.240
and and gotten him help he actually
0:39:06.560,0:39:11.359
would have died of the stroke
0:39:08.240,0:39:14.560
so totally crazy crazy story
0:39:11.359,0:39:17.760
um you know in this you see how
0:39:14.560,0:39:21.599
um he helped to bring
0:39:17.760,0:39:23.920
josh groban to uh to the forefront
0:39:21.599,0:39:25.040
uh also michael buble you know was
0:39:23.920,0:39:28.800
another one so
0:39:25.040,0:39:31.839
he’s had his hands in just so
0:39:28.800,0:39:33.760
many you know uh major hits
0:39:31.839,0:39:36.160
you know throughout the the various
0:39:33.760,0:39:36.720
decades and and all these powerful songs
0:39:36.160,0:39:39.839
and
0:39:36.720,0:39:42.320
and um you know just brought out the
0:39:39.839,0:39:46.079
best of everybody like celine dion
0:39:42.320,0:39:48.720
she was already a star by the time he
0:39:46.079,0:39:49.200
you know started collaborating with her
0:39:48.720,0:39:51.760
and
0:39:49.200,0:39:53.440
like pushed her to the point where like
0:39:51.760,0:39:55.760
she was cursing him out
0:39:53.440,0:39:56.960
and then of course he got like the best
0:39:55.760,0:40:01.280
performance out of her
0:39:56.960,0:40:04.560
like ever um so you know it’s funny he
0:40:01.280,0:40:07.119
he talks about you know what a
0:40:04.560,0:40:07.599
you know what a jerk he is really you
0:40:07.119,0:40:09.920
know
0:40:07.599,0:40:12.000
and that he’s surprised he’s gotten as
0:40:09.920,0:40:12.960
far as he has in the music business but
0:40:12.000,0:40:15.280
he just
0:40:12.960,0:40:17.599
knows the right thing and you know and
0:40:15.280,0:40:20.240
he’s never been afraid to tell
0:40:17.599,0:40:21.119
people off or tell them how he they
0:40:20.240,0:40:23.599
think and
0:40:21.119,0:40:24.319
you know in the end he’s usually always
0:40:23.599,0:40:27.200
right
0:40:24.319,0:40:29.200
um so really kind of fascinating you
0:40:27.200,0:40:31.440
know and hearing all these
0:40:29.200,0:40:33.280
stories from you know barbara streisand
0:40:31.440,0:40:34.400
even and you know all these different
0:40:33.280,0:40:36.160
celebrities who
0:40:34.400,0:40:37.440
he’s helped bring you know to the
0:40:36.160,0:40:41.040
forefront um
0:40:37.440,0:40:44.319
and he just has that magical music
0:40:41.040,0:40:46.800
gift that you know not a lot of people
0:40:44.319,0:40:48.079
you know have or you know people that
0:40:46.800,0:40:51.119
just wish they had
0:40:48.079,0:40:52.160
you know when one-tenth of you know what
0:40:51.119,0:40:54.079
he has
0:40:52.160,0:40:56.240
so really really interesting and it’s
0:40:54.079,0:40:57.839
one of those things like i always knew a
0:40:56.240,0:40:59.119
little bit about him but this was kind
0:40:57.839,0:41:02.480
of interesting to see
0:40:59.119,0:41:06.920
you know more of his his backstory cool
0:41:02.480,0:41:08.800
good pick thank you
0:41:06.920,0:41:11.920
[Applause]
0:41:08.800,0:41:13.119
so my pick this week as we teased at the
0:41:11.920,0:41:16.400
beginning of the show
0:41:13.119,0:41:19.359
is not a documentary oh my gosh uh
0:41:16.400,0:41:20.000
my pick is actually uh kind of a
0:41:19.359,0:41:24.480
throwback
0:41:20.000,0:41:27.839
to my childhood and it is transformers
0:41:24.480,0:41:30.960
war for cybertron trilogy uh
0:41:27.839,0:41:32.319
recently released on netflix uh the
0:41:30.960,0:41:34.240
[Music]
0:41:32.319,0:41:35.359
chapter one of the trilogy has been
0:41:34.240,0:41:39.440
released
0:41:35.359,0:41:41.680
uh and uh the intro just says as the
0:41:39.440,0:41:43.680
autobots and decepticons
0:41:41.680,0:41:46.640
ravage their planet in a brutal civil
0:41:43.680,0:41:49.359
war two iconic leaders emerge
0:41:46.640,0:41:51.440
in the transformers universe’s origin
0:41:49.359,0:41:54.720
origin story
0:41:51.440,0:41:56.560
now if you’re a child of the 80s like i
0:41:54.720,0:41:57.920
was and you watched the transformers
0:41:56.560,0:42:01.119
then
0:41:57.920,0:42:03.119
you sort of caught the tail end of this
0:42:01.119,0:42:06.800
war for cybertron concept
0:42:03.119,0:42:10.000
as the autobots came to earth
0:42:06.800,0:42:13.200
uh for refuge now this is reflected
0:42:10.000,0:42:14.480
in the more recent uh michael bay movies
0:42:13.200,0:42:17.920
as well
0:42:14.480,0:42:20.000
um but what this
0:42:17.920,0:42:22.319
new series does is it sort of delves
0:42:20.000,0:42:25.920
into the politics and the details
0:42:22.319,0:42:28.400
okay behind you know what caused the war
0:42:25.920,0:42:30.480
what were some of the philosophical
0:42:28.400,0:42:32.160
differences who were all the characters
0:42:30.480,0:42:34.400
and the players in there
0:42:32.160,0:42:36.160
and it gives you some of the backstory
0:42:34.400,0:42:38.240
of
0:42:36.160,0:42:40.240
what that was before we saw it in the
0:42:38.240,0:42:43.599
first chapter the next chapter is
0:42:40.240,0:42:45.359
is um going to deal with the time on
0:42:43.599,0:42:46.800
earth so i’m curious to see how that
0:42:45.359,0:42:48.720
goes
0:42:46.800,0:42:51.200
and then the last one sort of melds
0:42:48.720,0:42:54.550
together another popular
0:42:51.200,0:42:56.079
uh transformers franchise of the
0:42:54.550,0:42:59.040
[Music]
0:42:56.079,0:42:59.440
prehistoric ones where it was beast wars
0:42:59.040,0:43:01.359
uh
0:42:59.440,0:43:03.280
so they’re gonna have some kind of time
0:43:01.359,0:43:06.160
travel twist where they wind up
0:43:03.280,0:43:07.040
going back in time and have to deal with
0:43:06.160,0:43:10.079
uh
0:43:07.040,0:43:11.599
earth in its primordial days i suppose
0:43:10.079,0:43:14.160
you could say
0:43:11.599,0:43:16.000
i finished watching the first uh
0:43:14.160,0:43:18.240
chapters there’s only uh
0:43:16.000,0:43:20.079
a handful of episodes in the first
0:43:18.240,0:43:22.480
chapter
0:43:20.079,0:43:23.359
and the animation it’s interesting
0:43:22.480,0:43:26.560
because if
0:43:23.359,0:43:27.200
the transformers themselves are all the
0:43:26.560,0:43:30.079
classic
0:43:27.200,0:43:32.079
transformers okay they aren’t all the
0:43:30.079,0:43:34.400
redesigned ones from the michael bay
0:43:32.079,0:43:36.079
movies
0:43:34.400,0:43:38.400
and it’s it’s funny seeing the
0:43:36.079,0:43:40.880
animations because they’re more
0:43:38.400,0:43:41.440
physics based i think in this animated
0:43:40.880,0:43:44.560
series
0:43:41.440,0:43:46.800
okay where they’re big and bulky
0:43:44.560,0:43:48.880
and you know like when you used to play
0:43:46.800,0:43:51.359
with your transformers you couldn’t make
0:43:48.880,0:43:54.160
them do the things that they could do
0:43:51.359,0:43:55.920
on the animated series because they just
0:43:54.160,0:43:58.400
physically couldn’t do them
0:43:55.920,0:44:00.319
and you see some of that come through in
0:43:58.400,0:44:01.760
this new animated series here which is
0:44:00.319,0:44:03.440
interesting
0:44:01.760,0:44:05.760
the hardest part that i think i’ve had
0:44:03.440,0:44:09.040
about the entire series
0:44:05.760,0:44:11.620
is that they didn’t bring peter cullen
0:44:09.040,0:44:12.880
back in to do the voice of optimus prime
0:44:11.620,0:44:16.400
[Music]
0:44:12.880,0:44:19.119
so all the other characters are
0:44:16.400,0:44:21.760
very uh original in their voices they
0:44:19.119,0:44:23.040
like starscream is bang on megatron’s
0:44:21.760,0:44:24.880
you know really good even though they
0:44:23.040,0:44:28.000
didn’t get the original uh
0:44:24.880,0:44:29.440
voice actors to do all the roles but you
0:44:28.000,0:44:32.720
know if you don’t land
0:44:29.440,0:44:33.760
the voice of optimus prime that was so
0:44:32.720,0:44:36.880
characteristic
0:44:33.760,0:44:40.079
and and so iconic
0:44:36.880,0:44:43.599
then it’s really hard to
0:44:40.079,0:44:46.000
to kind of buy the character you know
0:44:43.599,0:44:47.040
um and it’s not like he doesn’t have the
0:44:46.000,0:44:48.480
same voice it
0:44:47.040,0:44:50.480
he doesn’t even speak in the same
0:44:48.480,0:44:53.520
cadence either so it makes for some
0:44:50.480,0:44:55.280
awkward dialogue but outside of that the
0:44:53.520,0:44:57.200
storyline seems pretty good
0:44:55.280,0:44:58.560
they seem very dedicated to the original
0:44:57.200,0:45:01.200
concept
0:44:58.560,0:45:02.720
and uh i was i was kind of impressed
0:45:01.200,0:45:04.800
with it i’ll certainly watch the rest of
0:45:02.720,0:45:08.640
the chapters as they come out
0:45:04.800,0:45:12.400
that is transformers war for cybertron
0:45:08.640,0:45:12.400
on netflix okay
0:45:13.830,0:45:16.319
[Applause]
0:45:15.070,0:45:19.839
[Music]
