Insights Into Entertainment: Episode 68 “Star Wars…Nothing But Star Wars”

Disney Detective uncovers plans for the phased Reopening of Walt Disney World Resort Theme Parks, Resort Hotels and Disney Stores and we’ve finally got official dates for the staggered reopening along with service restrictions and other precautionary measures being taken.

Star Wars Insights takes a look at how Stormtroopers are helping to encourage social distancing at Disney Springs. Ahmed Best, known for the iconic role of Jar Jar Binks returns to the Star Wars universe with a new game show. We’ll also look at the expected delays to the next phase of the Star Wars Universe Star Wars: The High Republic.

In Entertainment News the awards shows are at it again with more ridiculously restrictive rules and their selective interpretation of those rules. Apparently the Gold Globes takes issue with Pedro Pascal wearing a helmet for his role in The Mandalorian and is under threat of being declared just a voice actor and ineligible for any Globe awards for acting. We’ll bash the Golden Globes a bit for this idiotic move.

Then we’ll move on to our Insightful Picks of the Week with a couple of good ones including a new satirical role for Steve Carell.

      • Following the recent reopening of Shanghai Disney Resort and Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort, we’re pleased to share that more Disney magic is coming back. Today, we submitted a proposal to the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force in Florida describing our approach for a phased reopening of Walt Disney World Resort theme parks planned to begin on July 11.
      • Pending Orange County and state approval, Walt Disney World Resort proposal plans for Magic Kingdom Park and Disney’s Animal Kingdom to begin a phased reopening to the general public on July 11, followed by EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios on July 15. In preparing to reopen during this unusual time, we have to manage our theme parks in a very different way from what we’ve known before. As we begin to reach out to our cast members and call them back to work, they will be focused on operating our parks in a responsible way that continues to give our guests opportunities to create magical Disney memories.
      • This phased reopening will demonstrate a deliberate approach, with limits on attendance and controlled guest density that aligns with guidance on physical distancing. That means certain experiences we know draw large group gatherings – such as parades and nighttime spectaculars – will return at a later date.
        • No Parades
        • No Fireworks
      • In addition, “high-touch” experiences such as makeover opportunities, playgrounds and character meet and greets will remain temporarily unavailable, but characters will still be in our parks to entertain and delight our guests.
        • No Make-Overs
        • No Meet & Greets with Characters
        • Dining Plan Cancelled – No Character Meals
        • Guests who got Free Dining when they moved out their reservation, will now get 35% off Room Rates
      • Because theme park capacity will be significantly limited as we welcome guests back to the magic, we will manage attendance through a new theme park reservation system that will require all guests to obtain a reservation for park entry in advance. At this time, we are temporarily pausing new ticket sales and Disney Resort hotel reservations so we can focus on guests with existing tickets and reservations (Disney Vacation Club members can still make new reservations). Existing ticket holders and Annual Passholders will be able to make reservation requests in phases before new tickets are sold; we’ll be reaching out to these guests soon to provide additional details. We will resume new ticket sales and hotel reservations after that period of time. Theme park reservations will be limited due to attendance limitations and will be subject to availability. More details about this new reservation system will be available soon.
      • Additionally, Disney Vacation Club resorts at Walt Disney World will reopen to members and guests and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground will begin to reopen on June 22. Disney Vacation Club resorts in Vero Beach, Florida, and Hilton Head, South Carolina, will also open to members and guests starting on June 15. Plans to support required physical distancing as well as enhanced cleaning measures, along with a number of other safety and cleanliness protocols, will be implemented as part of this planned phased reopening.
      • As we all must work together to promote the health and safety of everyone, cast members as well as guests 2 years of age and older will be required to wear appropriate face coverings in theme parks and common areas of resort hotels. All guests will also undergo temperature screenings prior to entering a theme park; cast members will also have temperature checks. Cashless transactions are recommended, and cleaning and disinfection procedures will be increased in high-traffic areas.

      • Walt Disney World is rolling out Stormtroopers to encourage social distancing in the areas that are open. The Star Wars characters are pacing around and encoring people to wear masks and look out for each other in a video from Attractions Magazine. Disney Springs has been open for about a week now and the Orlando shopping center has been busy. With that increased foot traffic, the necessity of social distancing has come into focus again. When the park first announced the safety measures for reopening, some prospective visitors didn’t seem very keen on observing the new directive. That’s where the Stormtroopers come in, along with other park workers, keeping things light, fun, and safe is at the top of concerns for the park.
    • Jar Jar Binks actor Ahmed Best, once targeted by hate, makes first prominent return to ‘Star Wars’ galaxy

      • Ahmed Best’s comeback is officially in hyperdrive.
      • The actor, best known for voicing and performing motion-capture for the much-maligned Gungan Jar Jar Binks in George Lucas’s 1999-2005 trilogy of Star Wars prequels, is back — this time in the flesh — as host of the upcoming Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge game show on YouTube’s Star Wars Kids channel. Like a vintage Nickelodeon show (think Double Dare or Legends of the Hidden Temple) filmed at Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge theme park, the 10-episode series (originally slated for Disney+ before moving to YouTube) tests youngsters (sorry, Padawans) paired in teams of two on their abilities to become Jedi knights through a series of strength and knowledge trials.
      • Best’s participation in the show marks another feel-good moment in the performer’s rebound from what had turned into a shaky career sidetracked by derision and scorn in the years that followed his portrayal of Lucas’s controversial patois-speaking sidekick. (Watch the first trailer below.)
      • In 2018, Best revealed that the backlash to his character was so harsh — with the actor even receiving death threats — that he contemplated suicide. “I don’t talk a lot about my experience as #jarjarbinks because a lot of it is very painful. I faced a media backlash that still affects my career today. This was the place I almost ended my life,” he wrote in an Instagram post, accompanied by a photo of he and his song overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge. “It’s still hard to talk about. I survived and now this little guy is my gift for survival.” (At the time Best was considering a Phantom Menace-inspired one-man show which as of late-2019 was still in the works.)
      • Human decency has since (largely) prevailed, however, with Best, now 46, being re-embraced by the Star Wars community — especially in light of his troubling revelations. A Twitter post he shared the same day in 2018 drew words of support from The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, among other notable Star Wars artists, pundits and fans.
      • In 2019, Best received a massive standing ovation when he was introduced on stage at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago. “You guys are going to make me tear up, and I’m an unattractive crier,” he told the “Jar Jar! Jar Jar!”-chanting crowd. In a pre-taped message to fans attending a Phantom Menace 20th anniversary panel, Lucas went as far as naming Jar Jar as his favorite Star Wars character. “Ahmed, you did a fantastic job,” he said. “It was very, very hard.”
      • Jar Jar’s rep has also been buoyed in recent years by a prevalent 2015 fan theory that argues the character was not intended as comic relief or strictly for the kiddies, as generally believed, but as an evil secret Sith puppetmaster.
      • Despite his complicated relationship with Star Wars and its sometimes-toxic fandom, Best has continued to work in the universe in the years since the prequel trilogy wrapped with 2005’s Revenge of the Sith, in which his role had been reduced to cameo-sized. He voiced Jar Jar in seven episodes of the long-running animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008-14) and won an Annie Award for spoofing the floppy-eared Naboo native in 2008’s Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II. He’ll also provide his voice to the upcoming video game Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
      • With Jedi Temple Challenge, Best feels like a perfect fit for the streaming show in more ways than one. The actor, who Lucas et al. discovered for his work onstage in a New York production of Stomp, always had the natural charm and gregariousness you need to be a game-show host. It’s surely one of the reasons Lucas enlisted him for what he envisioned as a scene-stealing fan favorite in Jar Jar, not a perennial punching bag. And while the prequels are generally looked down upon by older Star Wars fans, they tend to be beloved by the generation that grew up with them — which very closely aligns with the YouTube series’ target demo.
      • Here’s hoping it’s not just the young competitors in Jedi Temple Challenge that rise to the occasion, but Best as well.
      • Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge debuts on YouTube June 3.

      • Star Wars: The High Republic, the ambitious cross-media collection of books and comics, has been delayed into 2021. The announcement came Tuesday at the official Star Wars website.
      • The High Republic is a new setting in the Star Wars universe that takes place 200 years before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.
        • The media onslaught will now begin on Jan. 5, 2021 with Charles Soule’s adult novel Star Wars: The High Republic: Light of the Jedi
        • Justina Ireland’s middle grade novel Star Wars: The High Republic: A Test of Courage.
        • Then comes the young adult novel by Claudia Gray titled Star Wars: The High Republic: Into The Dark on February 2, 2021.
      • Release dates for the comics, Marvel’s Star Wars: The High Republic and IDW’s Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures, will be announced some time in the future.
      • “Given these unprecedented times,” said Lucasfilm Publishing creative director Michael Siglain in the news release, “we have made the decision to move the launch of Star Wars: The High Republic to January 2021 to ensure that the launch is as grand and epic as it deserves to be.”

      • The Mandalorian made the out-of-the-box choice of casting a famous and, frankly, aggressively attractive actor in its lead role and then not showing his face for eight episodes. As the show’s title bounty hunter, Pedro Pascal remained mostly hooded for the entire first season, only popping the lid off once in the season 1 finale. It’s a fun narrative decision that now has some real-world consequences:
      • As a result of Pascal’s extremely limited visibility, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has made a change to its Golden Globes eligibility.
      • As stated by the HFPA, “voice-only performances are not eligible in any acting category.” According to Variety, that clarification comes directly from the fact that Pascal’s performance is technically voice-only, minus roughly 20 seconds of face time. The actor wasn’t nominated for a Golden Globe for his Mandalorian role, but the mere fact he could have been caused the HFPA to add this explanation. Bottom line: Baby Yoda, who is a real person, could and should have been nominated for a Best Actor Golden Globe in 2019.
      • Mid-way through The Mandalorian‘s first season, it was revealed that Pascal wasn’t actually in the main character’s costume as much as you’d think. While the actor was busy with rehearsals for his King Lear run on Broadway, Brendan Wayne—as in, the grandson of Western icon John Wayne—filled in on-set. Along with another double, Lateef Crowder, Pascal would coordinate the performance remotely.
        • “[Pascal] would ask me, and I would ask him the same question, which is, ‘Why did you move like this during that moment?’ We would go back and forth,” Wayne said. “The great thing about him is he’s not impressed with himself. He’s just an actor. And I mean that in the good way, not the bad way. He likes to learn and he likes to collaborate and he’s very good at it.”

        • The brand-new show sets out to be a space-age workplace comedy. The series was created by Steve Carell (who stars in the show as General Naird, the head of Space Force) and Greg Daniels, who developed the U.S. version of the smash-hit television show “The Office.”
        • But, while the show really isn’t anything like “The Office,” and isn’t quite perfect, it soars in poking a bit of cheeky fun at the real-life United States Space Force. Fans of Carell, comedy aficionados and space enthusiasts alike are sure to find something they can enjoy about the show

this is episode 68 and my delightful and

0:01:14.840,0:01:20.270
informative co-host Michelle Waylon hi

0:01:17.420,0:01:22.340
everyone so the show title is a bit of a

0:01:20.270,0:01:24.950
line we do have more than just Star Wars

0:01:22.340,0:01:26.930
but it’s mostly Star Wars mostly so it’s

0:01:24.950,0:01:31.270
it’s a very young and yang because there

0:01:26.930,0:01:34.460
are weeks when nothing about Star Wars

0:01:31.270,0:01:36.680
and you know this week it just seemed

0:01:34.460,0:01:38.570
like everything was kind of Star Wars

0:01:36.680,0:01:41.270
except the first story we’ll be talking

0:01:38.570,0:01:46.040
about in Disney detective which is the

0:01:41.270,0:01:47.869
official plans to open Disney World you

0:01:46.040,0:01:51.190
know that we now have dates associated

0:01:47.869,0:01:53.990
so that’s moving right along

0:01:51.190,0:01:56.510
then in Star Wars insights we’ll talk

0:01:53.990,0:01:59.780
about Disney world using stormtroopers

0:01:56.510,0:02:05.000
to encourage social distancing and then

0:01:59.780,0:02:07.280
a favorite character of ours the

0:02:05.000,0:02:10.280
character actor who played him is

0:02:07.280,0:02:13.970
emerging back again in the Star Wars

0:02:10.280,0:02:17.120
galaxy I’m at best who played Jar Jar

0:02:13.970,0:02:19.160
Binks and then we will talk about the

0:02:17.120,0:02:23.390
next phase of the Star Wars universe

0:02:19.160,0:02:26.390
being delayed which is unfortunate then

0:02:23.390,0:02:28.519
we have in entertainment news we have

0:02:26.390,0:02:32.450
some Mandalorian news with the Golden

0:02:28.519,0:02:34.250
Globes and then we will finish up with

0:02:32.450,0:02:39.019
our insightful picks of the week

0:02:34.250,0:02:42.970
so a Star Wars filled show this week are

0:02:39.019,0:02:42.970
we ready to get started sure all right

0:02:43.260,0:02:49.890
[Applause]

0:02:46.560,0:02:52.490
go for Disney detective so this week

0:02:49.890,0:02:56.850
Disney World

0:02:52.490,0:03:00.480
released their their phased reopening

0:02:56.850,0:03:02.310
plan for the resorts and the hotels and

0:03:00.480,0:03:06.240
even the Disney Stores they had

0:03:02.310,0:03:08.970
mentioned as well so we had shanghaied

0:03:06.240,0:03:11.910
Disney Resort that had opened up

0:03:08.970,0:03:15.990
you also had Disney springs which opened

0:03:11.910,0:03:18.690
up so now they basically submitted a

0:03:15.990,0:03:22.620
proposal to the Orange County economic

0:03:18.690,0:03:27.840
recovery task force in Florida you know

0:03:22.620,0:03:31.980
outlining their their guidelines and the

0:03:27.840,0:03:34.620
plan is that animal kingdom and Magic

0:03:31.980,0:03:38.130
Kingdom would open to the general public

0:03:34.620,0:03:41.459
on July 11th and then Epcot and

0:03:38.130,0:03:44.910
Hollywood studios would open on June

0:03:41.459,0:03:47.640
15th so you have July I’m sorry

0:03:44.910,0:03:50.790
July July 11th whew let’s try this again

0:03:47.640,0:03:55.519
July 11th and July 15th for the other

0:03:50.790,0:04:00.360
two so obviously with the phased opening

0:03:55.519,0:04:04.160
you know limits on attendance control

0:04:00.360,0:04:08.299
density of you know the various areas

0:04:04.160,0:04:12.209
they’ve already sent out notices to

0:04:08.299,0:04:14.700
guests that had reservations because

0:04:12.209,0:04:17.850
certain reservations had already been

0:04:14.700,0:04:24.570
cancelled and in some cases they had

0:04:17.850,0:04:27.600
pushed reservations out and for guests

0:04:24.570,0:04:29.790
that had original reservations they

0:04:27.600,0:04:32.850
actually ended up giving them a free

0:04:29.790,0:04:37.770
dining plan for not canceling for

0:04:32.850,0:04:41.790
postponing well now with the different

0:04:37.770,0:04:43.260
you know phases of of reopening that’s

0:04:41.790,0:04:46.919
actually something that they had to

0:04:43.260,0:04:49.530
modify so you know one of the first

0:04:46.919,0:04:54.900
things that was with social distancing

0:04:49.530,0:04:59.370
and whatnot so they are they’re not

0:04:54.900,0:05:00.449
canceling forever but as of now there

0:04:59.370,0:05:03.479
will be no parade

0:05:00.449,0:05:05.879
ADEs either daytime or nighttime parades

0:05:03.479,0:05:09.029
and no firework so basically nothing

0:05:05.879,0:05:14.490
where people would be grouping together

0:05:09.029,0:05:17.900
in enlarged you know large numbers the

0:05:14.490,0:05:20.669
other thing is that no high touch

0:05:17.900,0:05:23.509
experiences would be allowed either and

0:05:20.669,0:05:26.129
that would be the makeovers that they do

0:05:23.509,0:05:28.650
the bibbidi bobbidi boutique and they

0:05:26.129,0:05:31.409
have the pirate League so those are

0:05:28.650,0:05:34.680
suspended for now as well as character

0:05:31.409,0:05:37.259
meet-and-greets so obviously they had

0:05:34.680,0:05:39.029
mentioned that face characters weren’t

0:05:37.259,0:05:41.159
going to be around because of having to

0:05:39.029,0:05:43.020
wear a mask but now you’re not going to

0:05:41.159,0:05:44.639
be able to go and meet any characters

0:05:43.020,0:05:49.020
but they are gonna have characters

0:05:44.639,0:05:50.729
walking around you know to kind of have

0:05:49.020,0:05:53.159
a presence there but you’re not going to

0:05:50.729,0:05:54.779
be able to actually go in and and meet

0:05:53.159,0:05:59.159
with any of them

0:05:54.779,0:06:01.499
they’ve also for the dining plan they

0:05:59.159,0:06:03.509
actually cancelled the dining plan for

0:06:01.499,0:06:06.270
the rest of this year so if you had

0:06:03.509,0:06:09.539
already pre purchased it you’re now

0:06:06.270,0:06:14.249
going to be getting a 35% discount on

0:06:09.539,0:06:16.979
your room to make up for it and there if

0:06:14.249,0:06:20.039
you had reservations for character meals

0:06:16.979,0:06:23.249
those have now been discontinued at

0:06:20.039,0:06:26.370
least for the rest of this year they

0:06:23.249,0:06:28.620
also talked about if you had fast passes

0:06:26.370,0:06:30.860
already and you had dining reservations

0:06:28.620,0:06:34.770
all of that has now been wiped clean

0:06:30.860,0:06:39.180
because now it’s basically starting

0:06:34.770,0:06:41.550
fresh because now you have to you know

0:06:39.180,0:06:44.099
if you already had a ticket purchased

0:06:41.550,0:06:47.939
now you have to kind of go back into the

0:06:44.099,0:06:50.909
reservation system and rebook that

0:06:47.939,0:06:52.289
vacation so annual pass holders have to

0:06:50.909,0:06:54.839
do the same thing kind of like what they

0:06:52.289,0:06:57.060
did with Shanghai Disney was once they

0:06:54.839,0:07:01.830
opened it they were only allowing so

0:06:57.060,0:07:04.620
many you know capacity of so many people

0:07:01.830,0:07:06.599
per day per visit they’re basically

0:07:04.620,0:07:09.240
doing the same thing so as of right now

0:07:06.599,0:07:12.360
you can’t purchase a brand-new ticket

0:07:09.240,0:07:14.340
but if you’ve already had a ticket for

0:07:12.360,0:07:16.430
when this time frame is opening

0:07:14.340,0:07:20.190
now you have to kind of go back in and

0:07:16.430,0:07:22.880
redo everything because of the the limit

0:07:20.190,0:07:27.390
of the capacity that they’re they’re

0:07:22.880,0:07:31.410
doing so it’ll be interesting to see you

0:07:27.390,0:07:33.690
know what their capacity is like they

0:07:31.410,0:07:36.030
did announce for vacation club owners

0:07:33.690,0:07:38.790
which we happen to be that they’ll be

0:07:36.030,0:07:41.430
reopening that to members and guests so

0:07:38.790,0:07:44.070
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and

0:07:41.430,0:07:47.880
campground will begin reopening on June

0:07:44.070,0:07:50.670
22nd and the vacation club’s in Vero

0:07:47.880,0:07:53.160
Beach Florida and Hilton Head will also

0:07:50.670,0:07:55.590
be reopening starting June 15th so

0:07:53.160,0:07:58.170
they’re actually opening up obviously

0:07:55.590,0:08:00.240
Vero Beach and Hilton Head have nothing

0:07:58.170,0:08:02.670
to do with Walt Disney World because

0:08:00.240,0:08:04.230
they’re nowhere you know really near it

0:08:02.670,0:08:07.950
but there are people that obviously

0:08:04.230,0:08:11.220
still go there for vacations and they’ll

0:08:07.950,0:08:14.700
obviously be adhering to a lot of the

0:08:11.220,0:08:17.490
social distancing you know guidelines as

0:08:14.700,0:08:21.060
well only so many people at the pool and

0:08:17.490,0:08:24.390
and that was even something on some of

0:08:21.060,0:08:26.250
the different Disney groups that I’m

0:08:24.390,0:08:27.660
part of on Facebook they were talking

0:08:26.250,0:08:30.380
about well what do I do at the pool is

0:08:27.660,0:08:33.720
the pool even open and it did mention

0:08:30.380,0:08:35.850
that the pool would be open but if

0:08:33.720,0:08:38.130
you’re not in the pool you need to have

0:08:35.850,0:08:41.100
your mask on and obviously spaced out

0:08:38.130,0:08:44.010
and I guess in the pool the lifeguards

0:08:41.100,0:08:45.630
will probably you know ask you to move

0:08:44.010,0:08:48.450
around but you don’t have to wear the

0:08:45.630,0:08:51.210
mask when you’re in the pool so it’ll be

0:08:48.450,0:08:54.420
very interesting to hear from people

0:08:51.210,0:08:57.330
that still go and what their experience

0:08:54.420,0:08:59.760
you know slightly sounds like they’re

0:08:57.330,0:09:01.050
they’re lining it up to be a very

0:08:59.760,0:09:03.720
different experience

0:09:01.050,0:09:06.840
oh absolutely then what traditional

0:09:03.720,0:09:09.750
Disney experience and let me ask you

0:09:06.840,0:09:10.980
even with all those not that we intend

0:09:09.750,0:09:14.430
to go but even with all these

0:09:10.980,0:09:19.530
restrictions and changes would you still

0:09:14.430,0:09:23.160
go I don’t know that’s a really tough

0:09:19.530,0:09:27.240
because I mean you get all of the ton of

0:09:23.160,0:09:28.150
these group experiences that are really

0:09:27.240,0:09:30.460
what make up the

0:09:28.150,0:09:33.940
and that’s the thing is like you know

0:09:30.460,0:09:36.370
the the dining we don’t always do a

0:09:33.940,0:09:39.160
character dining if we do it’s kind of

0:09:36.370,0:09:43.510
like a last minute thing so for us

0:09:39.160,0:09:49.290
that’s not like a make-or-break but if I

0:09:43.510,0:09:52.060
can’t see fireworks illuminations

0:09:49.290,0:09:55.330
illuminations is there anymore Fantasmic

0:09:52.060,0:09:58.540
it would definitely be you know a

0:09:55.330,0:10:00.190
different experience but you know and

0:09:58.540,0:10:02.950
you’re paying the same you’re paying the

0:10:00.190,0:10:04.690
same buddy’s getting 60% of the

0:10:02.950,0:10:07.060
experience at a hundred percent of the

0:10:04.690,0:10:10.120
price and that’s you know but then again

0:10:07.060,0:10:13.330
the park isn’t gonna be as crowded so

0:10:10.120,0:10:17.380
what’s the wait time gonna be like on

0:10:13.330,0:10:18.700
the Reno so do you get to go on all the

0:10:17.380,0:10:21.160
rides that you would normally go on

0:10:18.700,0:10:22.510
without but parks not gonna be as

0:10:21.160,0:10:25.120
crowded but they’re not gonna be packed

0:10:22.510,0:10:27.730
on the rides is tight right true true

0:10:25.120,0:10:31.290
you know so there there’s there’s that

0:10:27.730,0:10:34.660
you know and the other thing too is we

0:10:31.290,0:10:37.570
very rarely go during the summer anyway

0:10:34.660,0:10:39.520
you know that’s we’ve learned our lesson

0:10:37.570,0:10:42.250
we did it a couple of times and you know

0:10:39.520,0:10:44.440
so I can’t even imagine you know just

0:10:42.250,0:10:47.440
going out shopping now and having to

0:10:44.440,0:10:51.850
wear a mask with the warm weather I

0:10:47.440,0:10:54.300
can’t imagine being in Florida having to

0:10:51.850,0:10:57.310
wear a mask now during you know October

0:10:54.300,0:10:58.720
might not be so bad it might you know

0:10:57.310,0:11:05.260
keep me warm when it gets a little

0:10:58.720,0:11:07.090
chilly but yeah I just it’s not that

0:11:05.260,0:11:10.930
it’s a deal breaker that I’ll never go

0:11:07.090,0:11:12.910
back to Disney but I can I can

0:11:10.930,0:11:16.660
these measures going away right exactly

0:11:12.910,0:11:20.260
exactly and that’s it maybe a year yeah

0:11:16.660,0:11:21.820
I could I could see us going not this

0:11:20.260,0:11:23.470
Christmas you know because we were

0:11:21.820,0:11:26.410
originally talking about possibly

0:11:23.470,0:11:29.440
redoing what we did but I could still

0:11:26.410,0:11:32.710
see us going to like Vero Beach because

0:11:29.440,0:11:34.950
we really enjoyed Vero Beach now would

0:11:32.710,0:11:38.560
we spend a whole week down in Vero Beach

0:11:34.950,0:11:42.010
probably not you know and do we need to

0:11:38.560,0:11:43.450
drive all the way down to Vero Beach

0:11:42.010,0:11:47.230
have that same experience where we could

0:11:43.450,0:11:51.940
probably find a resort beach resort you

0:11:47.230,0:11:53.830
know within a couple of hours so but

0:11:51.940,0:11:56.860
you’re probably still gonna run into the

0:11:53.830,0:11:58.480
same restrictions you know no matter

0:11:56.860,0:12:00.810
where you go that you know that’s the

0:11:58.480,0:12:04.330
thing is what’s some are gonna be like

0:12:00.810,0:12:05.020
for a lot of people you’re absolutely

0:12:04.330,0:12:08.410
right

0:12:05.020,0:12:11.590
so would I go you know if we had a

0:12:08.410,0:12:13.390
reservation for this summer we probably

0:12:11.590,0:12:15.100
would have canceled it or even the fall

0:12:13.390,0:12:16.510
well if we have a reservation for the

0:12:15.100,0:12:18.760
summer and I think we have a choice well

0:12:16.510,0:12:21.130
no but like if we had something like end

0:12:18.760,0:12:23.620
of August oh like before school you know

0:12:21.130,0:12:26.230
because we’ve done that before as well I

0:12:23.620,0:12:28.270
think we probably would have would have

0:12:26.230,0:12:29.920
canceled and even if we had something

0:12:28.270,0:12:33.100
you know like the October time frame

0:12:29.920,0:12:34.740
that we normally go well you’ve got the

0:12:33.100,0:12:37.150
right idea I think it’s a wait-and-see

0:12:34.740,0:12:38.920
let’s let some of the folks who are a

0:12:37.150,0:12:40.780
little bit more adventurous than we are

0:12:38.920,0:12:42.430
going there and test the waters and yeah

0:12:40.780,0:12:47.040
let’s see what the reviews really yeah

0:12:42.430,0:12:50.740
so but that was all we had for our

0:12:47.040,0:12:52.780
Disney detective yeah we’ll take a quick

0:12:50.740,0:13:04.330
break and we’ll come back with our Star

[Applause]

0:14:03.650,0:14:14.340
go for Disney @ I’ve done my line yep go

0:14:08.880,0:14:16.970
for Star Wars insights so Walt Disney

0:14:14.340,0:14:20.310
World is rolling out some stormtroopers

0:14:16.970,0:14:23.340
to help encourage social distancing in

0:14:20.310,0:14:25.170
the areas that are open so Star Wars

0:14:23.340,0:14:27.480
characters are pacing around and

0:14:25.170,0:14:29.210
encouraging people to wear masks and

0:14:27.480,0:14:31.710
look out for each other

0:14:29.210,0:14:34.290
Disney Springs has been open for about a

0:14:31.710,0:14:36.480
week now and the Orlando shopping area

0:14:34.290,0:14:38.610
has been very busy and with the

0:14:36.480,0:14:41.280
increased foot traffic the necessity of

0:14:38.610,0:14:44.160
social distancing has come back into

0:14:41.280,0:14:45.900
focus again when the park first

0:14:44.160,0:14:47.790
announced the safety measures for

0:14:45.900,0:14:49.530
reopening obviously there were a lot of

0:14:47.790,0:14:51.420
people that said they weren’t very keen

0:14:49.530,0:14:53.550
on observing the new directives and

0:14:51.420,0:14:56.400
that’s where the stormtroopers came in

0:14:53.550,0:14:59.640
so along with other Park workers they’re

0:14:56.400,0:15:02.910
kind of keeping things light and you

0:14:59.640,0:15:05.250
know making it known that you know

0:15:02.910,0:15:07.920
safety is their top concern but the

0:15:05.250,0:15:10.320
stormtroopers are kind of patrolling the

0:15:07.920,0:15:13.200
area of making sure everybody’s staying

0:15:10.320,0:15:15.840
you know a safe distance away and that

0:15:13.200,0:15:18.660
people you know are covering you know

0:15:15.840,0:15:21.840
their mass so seems I could definitely

0:15:18.660,0:15:24.660
see how you know how they acted when we

0:15:21.840,0:15:26.880
were in galaxy’s edge that type of thing

0:15:24.660,0:15:31.080
so you know helps to to lighten the mood

0:15:26.880,0:15:34.290
and you know in force there now are they

0:15:31.080,0:15:37.290
doing this outside of galaxy’s edge yeah

0:15:34.290,0:15:40.020
this is actually at at Disney Springs so

0:15:37.290,0:15:41.580
okay so they’re patrolling Disney

0:15:40.020,0:15:44.160
springs at this point because the parks

0:15:41.580,0:15:47.340
aren’t open and you know because a lot

0:15:44.160,0:15:50.520
of guests have been showing up at Disney

0:15:47.340,0:15:53.520
Springs to you know have some Disney

0:15:50.520,0:15:55.680
Magic you know happen and that’s the

0:15:53.520,0:15:57.690
other thing is that the first phase of

0:15:55.680,0:16:00.570
Disney Springs was just the the

0:15:57.690,0:16:03.750
third-party companies opening up well

0:16:00.570,0:16:06.270
now the world of Disney has now opened

0:16:03.750,0:16:09.290
and all the other Disney owned

0:16:06.270,0:16:11.570
properties have opened there guys

0:16:09.290,0:16:14.899
showing this throughout the other parks

0:16:11.570,0:16:16.670
they haven’t said you know it would be

0:16:14.899,0:16:18.560
kind of funny for stormtroopers to be in

0:16:16.670,0:16:20.120
the Magic Kingdom but then well it’s

0:16:18.560,0:16:20.600
kind of funny for him to be in Disney

0:16:20.120,0:16:23.899
Springs

0:16:20.600,0:16:25.730
well yeah true true but but at least a

0:16:23.899,0:16:28.940
wearing mask at least they are wearing

0:16:25.730,0:16:31.779
masks Oh cute little Disney Star Wars

0:16:28.940,0:16:36.500
story nice you know what I miss I miss

0:16:31.779,0:16:39.490
Jar Jar Binks do you I do deeply would

0:16:36.500,0:16:43.490
you tell us about Star Trek

0:16:39.490,0:16:46.790
wait a second so the actor that played

0:16:43.490,0:16:49.550
Jar Jar Binks a med best who was once

0:16:46.790,0:16:52.610
targeted you know with being one of the

0:16:49.550,0:16:56.120
worst Star Wars characters as now making

0:16:52.610,0:16:58.519
a return to the Star Wars galaxy so the

0:16:56.120,0:17:02.300
actor who was known for voicing and

0:16:58.519,0:17:06.949
performing in the motion capture of Jar

0:17:02.300,0:17:10.549
Jar Binks in the prequel trilogy is back

0:17:06.949,0:17:13.909
but this time as himself so he will be

0:17:10.549,0:17:17.480
the host of the upcoming Star Wars Jedi

0:17:13.909,0:17:22.150
Temple challenge game show which will be

0:17:17.480,0:17:28.120
on youtubes Star Wars kids channel so

0:17:22.150,0:17:31.030
basically think of the double dare or

0:17:28.120,0:17:33.470
legends of the Hidden Temple game show

0:17:31.030,0:17:37.010
so they were actually filmed at

0:17:33.470,0:17:40.190
Disneyland’s galaxy’s edge theme park it

0:17:37.010,0:17:42.710
was a 10 episode series it was actually

0:17:40.190,0:17:45.320
originally supposed to play on Disney

0:17:42.710,0:17:46.909
Plus before they ended up moving it to

0:17:45.320,0:17:50.540
YouTube

0:17:46.909,0:17:54.620
so basically it’s you know two teams of

0:17:50.540,0:17:56.840
Padawans are paired up you know and

0:17:54.620,0:17:58.490
tested on their ability to become Jedi

0:17:56.840,0:18:04.940
Knights through a series of strengths

0:17:58.490,0:18:08.450
and knowledge trials obviously he you

0:18:04.940,0:18:11.030
know he was known as being again like we

0:18:08.450,0:18:13.640
said one of the worst characters not for

0:18:11.030,0:18:16.370
any fault of his own it had nothing to

0:18:13.640,0:18:19.580
do with him but he actually had revealed

0:18:16.370,0:18:22.360
back in 2018 how you know he actually

0:18:19.580,0:18:24.820
got death threats for his character and

0:18:22.360,0:18:28.420
you know after seeing the things that

0:18:24.820,0:18:30.070
came out after English Jedi right some

0:18:28.420,0:18:34.000
of the harassment that came out of there

0:18:30.070,0:18:36.580
oh it’s it see what it’s not some yeah

0:18:34.000,0:18:38.590
it’s unfortunate yeah and you know and

0:18:36.580,0:18:41.370
he said that you know he actually

0:18:38.590,0:18:43.900
contemplated suicide because of

0:18:41.370,0:18:47.200
everything it was just so hard to deal

0:18:43.900,0:18:51.370
with and that he you know took the time

0:18:47.200,0:18:53.680
and and regrouped and realized you know

0:18:51.370,0:18:57.670
he says it’s still hard to even talk

0:18:53.680,0:19:00.580
about it but that he was even gonna come

0:18:57.670,0:19:04.150
up with like a one-man show inspired by

0:19:00.580,0:19:06.370
Phantom Menace but he he he never he

0:19:04.150,0:19:08.920
didn’t decide to not do it it’s still

0:19:06.370,0:19:12.970
kind of like in the works but he

0:19:08.920,0:19:17.530
actually ended up doing something at

0:19:12.970,0:19:20.910
Star Wars Celebration last year and the

0:19:17.530,0:19:24.400
fans were just like in awe of him and

0:19:20.910,0:19:26.890
you know standing ovations and he said

0:19:24.400,0:19:30.760
it was like you know the most moving

0:19:26.890,0:19:32.980
thing ever because it was such a 180

0:19:30.760,0:19:35.590
yeah the amount of support that he got

0:19:32.980,0:19:39.280
you know celebration was outstanding it

0:19:35.590,0:19:42.460
was it was nice yeah so you know he’s

0:19:39.280,0:19:44.680
he’s been part of not only doing the

0:19:42.460,0:19:48.570
trilogy but he also voiced Jar Jar in

0:19:44.680,0:19:52.420
the animated series as well and he even

0:19:48.570,0:19:55.570
ended up doing Jar Jar Binks on Robot

0:19:52.420,0:19:58.360
Chicken star wars episode and he’ll

0:19:55.570,0:20:01.210
actually be part of the voice for the

0:19:58.360,0:20:03.880
Legos Star Wars game that we had talked

0:20:01.210,0:20:07.180
about the Skywalker saga so he’ll even

0:20:03.880,0:20:10.240
be part of that so kind of cool that you

0:20:07.180,0:20:13.150
know he’s come full circle and and now

0:20:10.240,0:20:15.640
will be hosting this little game show

0:20:13.150,0:20:17.650
which sounds kind of cute you know it’ll

0:20:15.640,0:20:21.330
be interesting to see the trivia

0:20:17.650,0:20:25.510
questions well you know just as an aside

0:20:21.330,0:20:28.090
for my feelings on Jar Jar when Phantom

0:20:25.510,0:20:29.860
Menace came out I was in the camp and I

0:20:28.090,0:20:31.389
couldn’t stay in the character I thought

0:20:29.860,0:20:33.369
he was incredibly annoying

0:20:31.389,0:20:35.619
and and I still think he’s incredibly

0:20:33.369,0:20:37.269
annoying the character right actor

0:20:35.619,0:20:40.119
uh-huh and there was an interview that

0:20:37.269,0:20:46.209
George Lucas had done okay yeah in which

0:20:40.119,0:20:48.459
he very eloquently articulated what Jar

0:20:46.209,0:20:52.209
Jar was and what it was meant to be

0:20:48.459,0:20:54.999
right and and George explained that by

0:20:52.209,0:20:58.450
saying you know Star Wars has always

0:20:54.999,0:20:59.950
been for the kids and when the original

0:20:58.450,0:21:03.279
series came out the original trilogy

0:20:59.950,0:21:05.799
came out I was a kid and right and there

0:21:03.279,0:21:09.549
were goofy characters in there that you

0:21:05.799,0:21:11.229
fell in love with you know r2d2 and c3po

0:21:09.549,0:21:15.459
they were there from human commentary

0:21:11.229,0:21:17.529
you had the Ewoks you know the Ewoks

0:21:15.459,0:21:19.079
were the were the cute little teddy bear

0:21:17.529,0:21:23.859
right did a little teddy bear see he got

0:21:19.079,0:21:26.109
so he explained that the characters are

0:21:23.859,0:21:28.479
in here for the kids and Jar Jar Binks

0:21:26.109,0:21:31.419
was in there to provide a kid’s

0:21:28.479,0:21:33.579
perspective on the commentary of

0:21:31.419,0:21:35.619
everything that was going right and if

0:21:33.579,0:21:38.679
you go back and you watch the series

0:21:35.619,0:21:41.440
with that in mind you kind of realize

0:21:38.679,0:21:44.950
that yeah when Phantom Menace starts out

0:21:41.440,0:21:46.539
it’s politics right disputed trade

0:21:44.950,0:21:48.969
routes it’s stuff that kids don’t care

0:21:46.539,0:21:51.909
about right so you had to put something

0:21:48.969,0:21:55.959
like a Jar Jar Binks in there to keep

0:21:51.909,0:21:58.269
two kids going and keep you sort of not

0:21:55.959,0:22:01.359
dumb it down but explain to you from a

0:21:58.269,0:22:05.190
kid’s perspective or that’s exactly what

0:22:01.359,0:22:07.869
I’m at best did you know he he

0:22:05.190,0:22:10.929
personified that kid that was out there

0:22:07.869,0:22:14.049
watching the movie and I think a lot of

0:22:10.929,0:22:16.089
problem was the adults like me who

0:22:14.049,0:22:17.859
watched it who were avid fans of the

0:22:16.089,0:22:20.529
original trilogy weren’t kids anymore

0:22:17.859,0:22:22.899
right so you did so that theater was not

0:22:20.529,0:22:25.929
meant for us that character was meant

0:22:22.899,0:22:29.709
for the kids and and he did a fantastic

0:22:25.929,0:22:32.440
job and ironically in the end it turns

0:22:29.709,0:22:34.779
out that he was the catalyst to

0:22:32.440,0:22:36.879
everything if you think about it he’s so

0:22:34.779,0:22:39.039
Jar Jar Binks was like the ultimate SIF

0:22:36.879,0:22:41.919
behind everything right the downfall the

0:22:39.039,0:22:44.029
Jedi right it’s it’s a whole different

0:22:41.919,0:22:45.590
perspective when you look at it from the

0:22:44.029,0:22:47.359
you know he was the child-like

0:22:45.590,0:22:49.369
perspective that the kids could get

0:22:47.359,0:22:52.279
behind and it worked out very well and

0:22:49.369,0:22:55.489
to kind of what this article also said

0:22:52.279,0:22:57.879
was that for the 20th anniversary Lucas

0:22:55.489,0:23:01.039
had actually done a pre-recorded message

0:22:57.879,0:23:03.769
where he actually named Jar Jar as his

0:23:01.039,0:23:05.719
favorite Star Wars character so and it’s

0:23:03.769,0:23:10.279
you know it’s a shame that the character

0:23:05.719,0:23:11.840
was misinterpreted by people like me who

0:23:10.279,0:23:14.629
didn’t understand the purpose of the

0:23:11.840,0:23:16.549
character and and he took a lot of heat

0:23:14.629,0:23:18.289
for it so so it’s nice to see wait to

0:23:16.549,0:23:23.479
see him coming back strong and still

0:23:18.289,0:23:25.279
part of the Star Wars universe so the

0:23:23.479,0:23:29.450
next phase of the Star Wars universe is

0:23:25.279,0:23:31.879
delayed why is that well it is the Star

0:23:29.450,0:23:34.099
Wars High Republic the ambitious

0:23:31.879,0:23:37.580
cross-media collection of books and

0:23:34.099,0:23:39.710
comics has now been delayed into 2021

0:23:37.580,0:23:44.419
the announcement actually came this past

0:23:39.710,0:23:46.669
Tuesday on Star Wars official website so

0:23:44.419,0:23:48.830
the High Republic is the new setting of

0:23:46.669,0:23:52.999
the Star Wars universe that takes place

0:23:48.830,0:23:56.389
200 years before the events of Phantom

0:23:52.999,0:24:00.289
Menace so the media onslaught will now

0:23:56.389,0:24:02.330
begin on January 5th so the first book

0:24:00.289,0:24:05.570
that will be coming out is the adult

0:24:02.330,0:24:08.599
novel Star Wars the High Republic light

0:24:05.570,0:24:11.479
of the Jedi then there will be the mid

0:24:08.599,0:24:14.539
grade novel Star Wars High Republic a

0:24:11.479,0:24:19.070
test of courage then there’ll be the

0:24:14.539,0:24:21.589
adult young adult novel entitled Star

0:24:19.070,0:24:24.469
Wars the High Republic into the dark

0:24:21.589,0:24:27.190
which will come out in February and then

0:24:24.469,0:24:30.700
after that you’ll have the Marvel Comics

0:24:27.190,0:24:33.409
that will come out sometime after that

0:24:30.700,0:24:35.659
you know basically their creative team

0:24:33.409,0:24:37.940
said that with you know the

0:24:35.659,0:24:39.710
unprecedented times we have made the

0:24:37.940,0:24:43.129
decision to move the launch of Star Wars

0:24:39.710,0:24:45.979
High Republic to January 2021 to ensure

0:24:43.129,0:24:50.409
that the launch has a Grandon as Brandon

0:24:45.979,0:24:52.729
as epic as it deserves to be so not

0:24:50.409,0:24:54.830
surprising because we know a lot of

0:24:52.729,0:24:58.250
other things are going to be pushed out

0:24:54.830,0:25:01.250
that we’re supposed to you know come

0:24:58.250,0:25:04.280
out sooner so just you know we just

0:25:01.250,0:25:06.980
gotta wait till January for it so well

0:25:04.280,0:25:09.020
it’s one of those things that you know

0:25:06.980,0:25:11.390
it’s not like that blockbuster movie

0:25:09.020,0:25:13.730
right waiting for right

0:25:11.390,0:25:15.320
um and it’s one of those things that if

0:25:13.730,0:25:17.060
you’re gonna do it do it right

0:25:15.320,0:25:19.190
rush it out the door right let’s take

0:25:17.060,0:25:20.420
you’re getting it done right right so

0:25:19.190,0:25:21.950
now when I look forward to reading him

0:25:20.420,0:25:25.400
when they come out so it should be

0:25:21.950,0:25:29.120
interesting yeah so that was all we had

0:25:25.400,0:25:31.400
on our Star Wars insights all right

0:25:29.120,0:25:42.110
we’ll be back with our entertainment

0:26:41.450,0:26:47.580
so tell us about the Mandalorians mask

0:26:45.180,0:26:51.510
situation yeah this was actually kind of

0:26:47.580,0:26:54.660
interesting so the Mandalorian made you

0:26:51.510,0:26:58.140
know a choice of casting you know

0:26:54.660,0:27:00.660
someone famous and you know kind of

0:26:58.140,0:27:03.120
handsome looking you know actor to play

0:27:00.660,0:27:07.290
the role that basically really doesn’t

0:27:03.120,0:27:11.460
show his face at all until you know

0:27:07.290,0:27:14.790
episode 8 of the whole season so as the

0:27:11.460,0:27:17.040
show’s bounty hunter he basically was

0:27:14.790,0:27:20.510
mostly hooded for the entire first

0:27:17.040,0:27:24.060
season except again for the finale so

0:27:20.510,0:27:27.300
now because of that which is kind of

0:27:24.060,0:27:29.730
funny is that the Hollywood Foreign

0:27:27.300,0:27:33.180
Press Association had made a change to

0:27:29.730,0:27:36.480
its Golden Globes eligibility so as

0:27:33.180,0:27:39.660
stated by the Golden or the Hollywood

0:27:36.480,0:27:43.260
Foreign Press voice only performances

0:27:39.660,0:27:45.600
are not eligible in any acting category

0:27:43.260,0:27:47.490
so according to Variety that

0:27:45.600,0:27:49.620
clarification comes directly from the

0:27:47.490,0:27:53.010
fact that Pascal’s performance is

0:27:49.620,0:27:56.190
technically voice only – roughly about

0:27:53.010,0:28:00.270
20 seconds of face time now he wasn’t

0:27:56.190,0:28:03.570
nominated or up for a Golden Globe but

0:28:00.270,0:28:07.500
just the mere fact that he could have

0:28:03.570,0:28:11.250
been has now like added this little you

0:28:07.500,0:28:13.560
know subcategory or you know sub ruling

0:28:11.250,0:28:15.840
on it which was kind of funny so when

0:28:13.560,0:28:18.690
you think about it baby Yoda who had

0:28:15.840,0:28:21.150
more screen time than anybody else he

0:28:18.690,0:28:25.710
could actually be up for a Golden Globe

0:28:21.150,0:28:27.540
and he’s a puppet but yet peskow well

0:28:25.710,0:28:30.030
see I mean you know I think that’s a

0:28:27.540,0:28:32.970
little ridiculous because it’s not like

0:28:30.030,0:28:37.110
he was voicing the character from

0:28:32.970,0:28:38.790
onstage he was in the suit and he was

0:28:37.110,0:28:43.430
doing the act well and that’s the other

0:28:38.790,0:28:46.860
thing is that from watching the

0:28:43.430,0:28:50.130
Mandalorians special the documentary on

0:28:46.860,0:28:50.340
disney + you we did find out that he was

0:28:50.130,0:28:54.330
a

0:28:50.340,0:28:56.070
in the suit as often as well he didn’t

0:28:54.330,0:28:59.190
do his own stunts he had stunt guys

0:28:56.070,0:29:02.400
right but it actually one of the things

0:28:59.190,0:29:05.520
that actually came out was that he

0:29:02.400,0:29:07.890
wasn’t even with the stunts and stuff

0:29:05.520,0:29:10.110
there was a lot of time when he wasn’t

0:29:07.890,0:29:13.110
actually in it because he was actually

0:29:10.110,0:29:16.530
doing rehearsals for King Lear on

0:29:13.110,0:29:18.720
Broadway which is what this article

0:29:16.530,0:29:21.210
talks about so there were lots of times

0:29:18.720,0:29:23.580
when his stunt doubles actually were

0:29:21.210,0:29:25.620
there so when we were watching it and

0:29:23.580,0:29:28.500
you could and you saw him doing the

0:29:25.620,0:29:32.100
voice-over work that was a lot of what

0:29:28.500,0:29:37.500
he did so he wasn’t on set as much room

0:29:32.100,0:29:40.020
as they were saying so you see and I

0:29:37.500,0:29:41.700
don’t obviously I’m not an expert on I

0:29:40.020,0:29:45.360
don’t make up the rules right

0:29:41.700,0:29:47.010
right but a voice actor is a voice actor

0:29:45.360,0:29:49.710
you do everything in the studio you

0:29:47.010,0:29:52.260
record all your lines whatever you never

0:29:49.710,0:29:55.170
put on the costume you get out there on

0:29:52.260,0:29:57.390
the on the performing stage to do the

0:29:55.170,0:29:59.640
role itself right I think as soon as you

0:29:57.390,0:30:03.240
put that costume on and you step on the

0:29:59.640,0:30:06.750
de set again our filmed on camera right

0:30:03.240,0:30:09.570
whether your face is covered or not then

0:30:06.750,0:30:12.660
so that so that is does that mean that

0:30:09.570,0:30:14.430
that David Prowse who played Vader and

0:30:12.660,0:30:15.930
never took his mask off when he was

0:30:14.430,0:30:17.940
playing Vader would never have been

0:30:15.930,0:30:18.960
nominated either right but that’s the

0:30:17.940,0:30:21.270
whole because he didn’t even do the

0:30:18.960,0:30:23.700
voice right and but that was where I was

0:30:21.270,0:30:26.910
just gonna say okay so does David Prowse

0:30:23.700,0:30:29.310
get the nomination or does James Earl

0:30:26.910,0:30:31.080
Jones general Jones would have been the

0:30:29.310,0:30:32.550
voice only character right because he

0:30:31.080,0:30:34.590
never put the costume on but the other

0:30:32.550,0:30:36.660
thing too is thinking about it even

0:30:34.590,0:30:39.960
though they give awards for best

0:30:36.660,0:30:42.420
animated none of the actors that are

0:30:39.960,0:30:48.000
ever part of an animated get a

0:30:42.420,0:30:49.920
nomination if the rule is if you’re a

0:30:48.000,0:30:52.830
voice actor you can’t be nominated

0:30:49.920,0:30:54.990
that’s fine so in that case right we’ll

0:30:52.830,0:30:56.960
use Darth Vader again okay all right

0:30:54.990,0:31:01.200
so Darth Vader in the original trilogy

0:30:56.960,0:31:03.549
was the acting portion of it was David

0:31:01.200,0:31:06.730
Prowse right – the stunts

0:31:03.549,0:31:07.360
right the voice was James Earl Jones

0:31:06.730,0:31:09.970
okay

0:31:07.360,0:31:13.480
so therefore James Earl Jones wouldn’t

0:31:09.970,0:31:16.659
be nominated direct but David Prowse

0:31:13.480,0:31:19.690
would correct but you don’t see his face

0:31:16.659,0:31:22.659
either right so even when he takes off

0:31:19.690,0:31:26.080
his mask it’s not it’s Sebastian Shaw

0:31:22.659,0:31:28.840
who’s the actor right so it you have a

0:31:26.080,0:31:31.989
third person right doing but my point is

0:31:28.840,0:31:34.149
with the Mandalorian he obviously did

0:31:31.989,0:31:36.249
voiceover work for he had to they had to

0:31:34.149,0:31:38.769
modulate his voice for the right of the

0:31:36.249,0:31:41.799
costume right but he put the costume on

0:31:38.769,0:31:44.109
he stepped on the set he he did at some

0:31:41.799,0:31:51.489
point but from what this article I

0:31:44.109,0:31:54.100
understand right as soon as you put that

0:31:51.489,0:31:57.340
costume I agree and you step on the set

0:31:54.100,0:31:59.859
I agree you are filmed you are an actor

0:31:57.340,0:32:04.480
uh-huh I agree you stop being a voice

0:31:59.859,0:32:07.749
actor so that’s my – so these award

0:32:04.480,0:32:10.600
shows are so for these rules and these

0:32:07.749,0:32:12.970
technicalities it makes me wonder what

0:32:10.600,0:32:15.999
the whole purpose of this is why are

0:32:12.970,0:32:19.299
they trying to not recognize talent

0:32:15.999,0:32:22.149
there’s this push to not recognize town

0:32:19.299,0:32:25.509
are people so terrified that new

0:32:22.149,0:32:28.239
technologies and new creative methods

0:32:25.509,0:32:30.249
are threatening their way of life

0:32:28.239,0:32:32.169
because that’s what it strikes me with

0:32:30.249,0:32:34.720
the whole Netflix in the Oscars thing

0:32:32.169,0:32:37.989
right and see that sounds similar

0:32:34.720,0:32:40.629
similar to that here it’s like it’s it’s

0:32:37.989,0:32:44.019
a it’s an award for creative talent and

0:32:40.629,0:32:46.269
skill mm-hmm why would you not want to

0:32:44.019,0:32:48.039
give it to someone who deserves it why

0:32:46.269,0:32:51.309
are you all coming up with reasons not

0:32:48.039,0:32:54.549
to give it to people it just it seems

0:32:51.309,0:32:56.859
idiotic to me yeah anyway my two cents

0:32:54.549,0:32:59.109
okay but that was all we had for

0:32:56.859,0:33:02.919
entertainment news that was it or slow

0:32:59.109,0:33:05.289
week yep that’s okay we will be right

0:33:02.919,0:33:07.350
back with our insightful picks of the

0:33:05.289,0:33:07.350
week

0:33:07.680,0:33:14.360
[Applause]

0:33:11.210,0:33:17.420
go for your insightful pick so my

0:33:14.360,0:33:21.170
insightful pick this week is a series on

0:33:17.420,0:33:24.470
Netflix called sweet magnolias it’s an

0:33:21.170,0:33:27.800
American romance drama series that is

0:33:24.470,0:33:32.180
actually based on the novel’s sweet

0:33:27.800,0:33:36.340
magnolias and it’s basically the story

0:33:32.180,0:33:39.860
of three best friends in South Carolina

0:33:36.340,0:33:42.790
who you know now they’re they’re adults

0:33:39.860,0:33:45.320
they’re moms they’re successful and

0:33:42.790,0:33:48.320
basically dealing with their you know

0:33:45.320,0:33:51.620
the challenges of you know being adults

0:33:48.320,0:33:55.910
and raising kids and and you know being

0:33:51.620,0:34:05.030
successful and it’s you know your your

0:33:55.910,0:34:10.270
typical romance drama type show it has a

0:34:05.030,0:34:14.240
very you know Gilmore Girls feel to it

0:34:10.270,0:34:17.330
what’s kind of funny is you know they

0:34:14.240,0:34:18.920
they run into you know everybody lives

0:34:17.330,0:34:22.310
in the same town that they grew up in

0:34:18.920,0:34:25.130
and it’s that southern hospitality and

0:34:22.310,0:34:27.320
you know like Oh bless her heart you

0:34:25.130,0:34:29.870
know you know so it’s like the southern

0:34:27.320,0:34:32.330
insults you know that you say to

0:34:29.870,0:34:34.730
somebody but it sounds really nice so

0:34:32.330,0:34:38.810
that’s kind of you know cute that they

0:34:34.730,0:34:40.580
have that in there what’s interesting is

0:34:38.810,0:34:44.300
when I was reading about the actual

0:34:40.580,0:34:46.760
books so season 1 leaves off with a big

0:34:44.300,0:34:52.160
cliffhanger hopefully there’ll be a

0:34:46.760,0:34:53.660
season 2 but from the books like the I

0:34:52.160,0:34:56.180
think there’s three books and in the

0:34:53.660,0:35:00.620
series the first book is actually just

0:34:56.180,0:35:02.480
about the one character where the second

0:35:00.620,0:35:05.840
character in the book doesn’t even come

0:35:02.480,0:35:07.340
into play or in the in the show doesn’t

0:35:05.840,0:35:09.530
even come into play until like the

0:35:07.340,0:35:11.540
second book and the third character is

0:35:09.530,0:35:15.080
in the third book here they’re kind of

0:35:11.540,0:35:17.360
all together in you know the series from

0:35:15.080,0:35:18.920
from without so you know basically

0:35:17.360,0:35:22.670
starts off the main character her

0:35:18.920,0:35:24.680
husband is asking her for a divorce you

0:35:22.670,0:35:26.660
know so she’s dealing with all of that

0:35:24.680,0:35:28.970
then the other friend is already

0:35:26.660,0:35:33.050
divorced and has a teenage daughter and

0:35:28.970,0:35:35.720
then the third woman was never married

0:35:33.050,0:35:38.839
basically had a lost love and he kind of

0:35:35.720,0:35:41.300
comes back into the picture you know

0:35:38.839,0:35:43.579
midway through the the season and it’s

0:35:41.300,0:35:46.579
all of that so you know just one of

0:35:43.579,0:35:50.599
those cute little romance dramas you

0:35:46.579,0:35:54.020
know not too much wildness going on so

0:35:50.599,0:35:56.059
10 episodes in the season so you know

0:35:54.020,0:35:59.180
again nice little you know if you like

0:35:56.059,0:36:02.119
Gilmore Girls and that type of show this

0:35:59.180,0:36:11.119
is definitely one of those for you okay

0:36:02.119,0:36:16.490
good pick thank you so my pick this week

0:36:11.119,0:36:20.210
is shockingly not a documentary oh my

0:36:16.490,0:36:22.970
gosh in fact this was a late pick for me

0:36:20.210,0:36:26.890
I literally just finished watching the

0:36:22.970,0:36:30.020
first episode ten minutes before we went

0:36:26.890,0:36:33.230
live on the streams so now I have to go

0:36:30.020,0:36:36.140
back and watch it so I can catch up my

0:36:33.230,0:36:40.339
pick this week is space force a new

0:36:36.140,0:36:42.950
series on Netflix where a four-star

0:36:40.339,0:36:45.799
general begrudgingly teams up with an

0:36:42.950,0:36:49.010
eccentric scientist to get the United

0:36:45.799,0:36:52.970
States first and the military’s newest

0:36:49.010,0:36:56.270
agency the space force ready for liftoff

0:36:52.970,0:37:00.049
the brand-new show sets out to be a

0:36:56.270,0:37:02.720
space-age workplace comedy the series

0:37:00.049,0:37:05.720
was created by Steve Carell who stars in

0:37:02.720,0:37:08.329
the show as general neared the head of

0:37:05.720,0:37:10.280
space force and Greg Daniels who helped

0:37:08.329,0:37:13.520
develop the US version of the smash hit

0:37:10.280,0:37:16.069
television show the office and you can

0:37:13.520,0:37:18.829
really get an office feel some of the

0:37:16.069,0:37:21.530
comedy and some of the some of the

0:37:18.829,0:37:24.049
interactions but while the show really

0:37:21.530,0:37:27.799
isn’t anything like the office it isn’t

0:37:24.049,0:37:30.140
quite perfect it sewers in poking a bit

0:37:27.799,0:37:33.589
of cheeky fun at the real-life United

0:37:30.140,0:37:36.020
States space force fans of Carell comedy

0:37:33.589,0:37:38.630
aficionados and space enthusiasts alike

0:37:36.020,0:37:41.930
are sure to find something that

0:37:38.630,0:37:46.279
can enjoy about the show there’s a bit

0:37:41.930,0:37:49.220
of political satire involved the entire

0:37:46.279,0:37:51.619
premise I think is political satire

0:37:49.220,0:37:56.299
really they kind of make fun of the

0:37:51.619,0:38:00.069
whole idea of a space force and there’s

0:37:56.299,0:38:02.720
one scene in the first episode where

0:38:00.069,0:38:04.430
Steve Carell is brought in he’s promoted

0:38:02.720,0:38:06.049
to a four-star general and he’s brought

0:38:04.430,0:38:09.230
in and thinks he’s taking over the Air

0:38:06.049,0:38:12.440
Force and they tell him well no you’re

0:38:09.230,0:38:13.730
taking over the space force they hadn’t

0:38:12.440,0:38:16.759
meant and in this meeting they announced

0:38:13.730,0:38:19.009
all the space force is the newest branch

0:38:16.759,0:38:20.750
of the military and Steve Carrell

0:38:19.009,0:38:22.549
character chuckles immediately dead

0:38:20.750,0:38:28.900
right everyone else did when they heard

0:38:22.549,0:38:30.769
right right and east you know the the

0:38:28.900,0:38:33.259
Secretary of Defense who’s in the room

0:38:30.769,0:38:34.519
with him says well yeah don’t worry he

0:38:33.259,0:38:35.960
Steve Carell says I haven’t heard

0:38:34.519,0:38:37.970
anything about this and the Secretary of

0:38:35.960,0:38:39.380
Defense is oh don’t worry the president

0:38:37.970,0:38:40.400
will be tweeting this out as an order in

0:38:39.380,0:38:42.740
about five minutes

0:38:40.400,0:38:44.690
so there’s a lot of poking fun

0:38:42.740,0:38:47.359
back-and-forth over some of the

0:38:44.690,0:38:50.029
political stuff that’s going on but the

0:38:47.359,0:38:52.849
show itself it’s surprisingly well

0:38:50.029,0:38:54.619
produced if you’ve got very professional

0:38:52.849,0:38:56.480
done sets that you could tell they

0:38:54.619,0:39:02.960
dumped a lot of money into this show to

0:38:56.480,0:39:06.950
make it look good and it’s the same type

0:39:02.960,0:39:09.049
of subtle idiotic you know humor that

0:39:06.950,0:39:11.750
you you kind of got out of the office

0:39:09.049,0:39:14.529
okay a lot of character development

0:39:11.750,0:39:17.299
right in the first episode a lot of

0:39:14.529,0:39:18.950
pattern comedy you know every time he

0:39:17.299,0:39:21.230
walks into his office there’s somebody

0:39:18.950,0:39:23.059
in there and he walks in and his

0:39:21.230,0:39:24.319
assistant never bothers to tell him

0:39:23.059,0:39:25.849
because the whoever’s in theirs at all

0:39:24.319,0:39:28.039
they took they said don’t say any right

0:39:25.849,0:39:30.710
right you know you get into this

0:39:28.039,0:39:32.569
repeated pattern of that so it’s it’s

0:39:30.710,0:39:33.740
got a lot of potential I read some of

0:39:32.569,0:39:36.500
the reviews on it and some of the

0:39:33.740,0:39:40.250
reviews were less than stellar about

0:39:36.500,0:39:42.619
that so we’ll see how the rest of the

0:39:40.250,0:39:46.660
season goes okay but I like the first

0:39:42.619,0:39:49.670
episode I like Steve Carell I think he’s

0:39:46.660,0:39:51.130
enjoyed himself so I’m looking forward

0:39:49.670,0:39:53.140
to seeing the rest of it and

0:39:51.130,0:39:57.520
now I can watch it with you so it’s one

0:39:53.140,0:39:59.410
more thing to add so that was a that was

0:39:57.520,0:40:08.520
all we had we’ll be back in a minute

0:39:59.410,0:40:12.130
to sum up so that was all we had today

0:40:08.520,0:40:14.770
we are actually on my second lot of

0:40:12.130,0:40:18.430
their hair and I’m watching yep the

0:40:14.770,0:40:22.780
launch America on NASA minutes we are

0:40:18.430,0:40:24.430
t-minus 15 minutes 23 seconds hopefully

0:40:22.780,0:40:27.160
they won’t have any issues with weather

0:40:24.430,0:40:30.660
and will Lana will be able to launch the

0:40:27.160,0:40:33.220
first astronauts in the space from

0:40:30.660,0:40:36.670
American soil since the retirement of

0:40:33.220,0:40:38.260
the space shuttle kind of exciting we

0:40:36.670,0:40:40.990
will talk about that if it goes well

0:40:38.260,0:40:42.940
next week on this racial I’m not sure it

0:40:40.990,0:40:44.560
qualifies as entertainment news but it’s

0:40:42.940,0:40:46.900
certainly entertaining for me sure

0:40:44.560,0:40:51.160
qualifies as a documentary right there

0:40:46.900,0:40:54.690
you go perfect I’ll do my yeah it’s safe

0:40:51.160,0:40:58.000
we’ll pick off sure so in the meantime
