- LaKeith Stanfield and Tiffany Haddish are in talks to star in Disney’s new Haunted Mansion movie with Justin Simien directing.
- Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, who produced the live-action hit Aladdin, are producing through their Rideback banner with Nick Reynolds of Rideback exec producing. Katie Dippold penned the most recent draft.
- The Haunted Mansion ride debuted in 1969 and has been a favorite of park goers ever since, appearing currently in both Disneyland and Disney World.
- The premise sees theme park guests go inside a spooky and creepy manor that includes some classic characters, from the spirit of psychic medium Madame Leota to the skeletal Bride and the cloaked Hatbox Ghost.
- Disney previously adapted the ride into a 2003 movie directed by Rob Minkoff and starring Eddie Murphy, which was a moderate success at the box-office.
- Similar to Pirates of the Caribbean, another theme park ride that became a massive box-office smash, execs have always seen this as a piece of Disney IP that is recognizable to so many people across the world, but also makes for something that can be easier to adapt as a movie compared to other theme park rides.
- Stanfield, one of the stars of FX’s Atlanta, toplined with Daniel Kaluuya in Judas and the Black Messiah, which earned Stanfield a best supporting actor nomination.
- He next stars in the stylish Western The Harder They Fall, which will be released on Netflix this fall.
- Haddish next appears in the Nicolas Cage meta-movie, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, which Lionsgate is due to release in 2022.

- Mark Hamill As Luke Skywalker In Mandalorian Season 2 Set Photos
- https://screenrant.com/mandalorian-season-2-luke-skywalker-mark-hamill-set-photo/?fbclid=IwAR0ZqFNPsjwNtrgIa0zrvpZRHZy8mdTuB8QLSe-jJ4LUozdmo4551Shr-Q8

- Mark Hamill plays Luke Skywalker once again in newly released set photos from The Mandalorian season 2.
- When Disney announced it would continue its expansion of the Star Wars universe by creating live-action shows for its streaming service, there was both excitement and apprehension among the fan base.
- Luckily, the first of many planned shows, The Mandalorian, won over audiences immediately with its simple but compelling tale and deeper world-building.
- The series reached greater heights last year with the arrival of season 2, which featured numerous surprises.
- The high point of The Mandalorian season 2 is perhaps the very end.
- After spending eight episodes trying to find a suitable Jedi mentor for young Grogu, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) comes face to face with none other than Luke Skywalker himself.
- Drawn by Grogu’s power, Luke arrives just when it seems all hope is lost to save Din, Grogu, and their allies.
- As this wasn’t revealed ahead of time, The Mandalorian’s Luke surprise quickly became one of the biggest and best plot twists of the year.
- The Mandalorian season 2 finale will get a behind the scenes special on Disney+ with the addition of a new episode of Disney Gallery: Star Wars: The Mandalorian.
- In a trailer for what’s to come in August, Disney+ revealed a quick new shot of Hamill on set as Luke (via Skytalkers).
- There’s also one of Grogu offering up a wave for audiences.
- Hamill had to be digitally de-aged to play Luke for The Mandalorian, and there were also moments that were shot with a stand-in.
- However, the actor made it clear that he was there on set for the scene, and as the above picture confirms, he even got to hold Grogu.
- The Disney Gallery episode will provide more behind the scenes info about how the Mandalorian season 2 finale came together, and there will likely be additional footage of Hamill on set.
- It can also reveal how CGI, stand-ins, and Hamill all contributed to Luke’s final appearance in the episode, which should be fascinating to see.
- Since fans thought Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was the last time Hamill would play Luke in live-action form, his arrival on The Mandalorian spurred a great deal of excitement.
- Whether he could ever return remains to be seen, but as Grogu left with Luke at the end of the episode, it isn’t out of the question.
- The latest episode of Disney Gallery will arrive later this month, on August 25, and provide new secrets about The Mandalorian and Hamill’s triumphant return. Be sure to check it out.

- Disney Parks Shows Off First Commercial and Pricing for the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser
- https://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/2021/08/disney-parks-shows-off-first-commercial-and-pricing-for-the-star-wars-galactic-starcruiser.html
- https://bit.ly/37i1m2a
- The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser has been in development for a long time.
- While details about what can be expected from this unique resort experience have been let out in drips and drabs over the last few years, Disney today dropped its first commercial for the resort and updated the official site to offer some key details.
- First up, the commercial doesn’t show off too much that wasn’t already known, but it does give a new look at the standard rooms that will be available and sets the tone for the experience.
- The more illuminating parts of the new information released today involve the pricing and what is to be included in that cost.
- It was always known The Galactic Starcruiser would not be a budget offering.
- On that front there are no surprises here.
- A two night stay in a standard room for two people in Disney World’s off season (sample prices are for August-September 2022) comes in at $4809.
- That goes up to $5,999 for a family of four. No sample pricing is given for the larger suites that will be available.
- What’s included in that price? Disney has added some details there as well.
- Your Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser vacation package includes:
- 2-night stay in a cabin or suite
- Ongoing, immersive and interactive entertainment, where choices determine your experience
- Food and beverages on the starcruiser (excluding alcoholic and specialty beverages) and a quick-service meal at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo or other select locations at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
- Admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for your planetary excursion to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
- Valet parking
- Exclusive Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser databand (known on your home planet as a MagicBand)
- Your Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser vacation package includes:
- As expected, the cost will work similar to a cruise line with most food, drink, and entertainment included in the cost of your room.
- You also get the included “excursion” in the form of admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios park next door to the hotel.
- That park also happens to be the home of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and it is expected the hotel will have a private entrance that leads directly to Batuu so you are never forced to leave the Star Wars experience if you don’t want to.
- The Galactic Starcruiser is scheduled to open next spring, so there is sure to be more pricing and detail provided in the coming months.
- In the meantime, head to the official site for all the information that is available currently.

- Kevin Feige’s Rumored Reaction To ScarJo’s Black Widow Drama Might Surprise Some
- https://www.looper.com/475283/kevin-feiges-rumored-reaction-to-scarjos-black-widow-drama-might-surprise-some/?zsource=smartnews
- https://bit.ly/37k3dnd
- The “Black Widow” movie was a very long time coming.
- Not only was the film delayed multiple times, but Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) herself was a part of the MCU since “Iron Man 2” hit theaters way back in 2010 — that’s a long time for such a major character to wait to get her own movie.
- We could debate whether or not “Black Widow” succeeded in making good on what Natasha Romanoff and Johansson deserve in the sense of emotional impact within the MCU, but the current conversation isn’t about that at all — it’s about money.
- Johansson is attempting to sue The Walt Disney Company over the release of “Black Widow” — specifically the part where the film was simultaneously released both in theaters and on Disney+.
- The question of how much Johansson (or any actor) will make when their total salary is partially derived from theatrical ticket sales is a major one.
- It’s very likely that, prior to 2020, very few people, if anyone, had even considered how commonplace simultaneous theatrical and at-home releases would become.
- In short, it’s not just Johansson’s paycheck that rides on the result of this suit between her and Disney.
- As you might imagine, Kevin Feige, whose power over MCU storytelling borders on the absolute, probably has some thoughts about this situation — they just might not be the thoughts you were expecting.
- Kevin Feige is about as deep into the worlds of Disney and Marvel as a human being is capable of.
- After working with Scarlett Johansson and Disney for over a decade, it’s only natural to assume he’d be frustrated with the circumstances that led to public litigation between the actress and the multimedia giant.
- However, it’s interesting to see whose side he’s apparently come down on.
- Former Hollywood Reporter editor Matthew Belloni wrote a bit about Feige’s place in this situation in his most recent “What I’m Hearing” newsletter, via IGN.
- “I’m told he’s angry and embarrassed,” Belloni unsurprisingly revealed. “He lobbied Disney against the day-and-date plan for ‘Black Widow,’ preferring the big screen exclusivity and not wanting to upset his talent.
- And then when the s*** hit the fan, the movie started tanking, and Johansson’s team threatened litigation, he wanted Disney to make this right with her.”
- While Belloni describes Feige as a “company man,” it’s not as though being in the pocket of a major corporation makes him incapable of caring about an individual.
- Likewise, it would be fair to say that, if this claim about Feige is true, he might also think Disney’s decision to respond to the litigation by saying, “There is no merit whatsoever to this filing,” is bad for business.
- We’re not just talking about literal court here, we’re also talking about the court of public opinion, too.
- Whether or not Feige actually feels this way is unknown, but it will be interesting to see if he decides to officially make a public comment on this matter.
- The “Black Widow” movie was a very long time coming.
- Jodie Whittaker to leave Doctor Who along with showrunner, says BBC
- https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2021/jul/29/jodie-whittaker-chris-chibnall-will-leave-doctor-who-bbc-confirms?fbclid=IwAR27kMk8DCWVXnG9_qQI7seYv520bZynVo7PYg8DWicbNBa34zNcbOR6xCk
- https://bit.ly/3ipA7cA
- Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker and showrunner Chris Chibnall will both leave the programme in 2022, the BBC has confirmed.
- Whittaker, 39, was the 13th actor and the first woman to regularly play the main character in the long-lived series.
- Whittaker paid tribute to Chibnall and the Doctor Who team in a statement saying: “In 2017 I opened my glorious gift box of size 13 shoes. I could not have guessed the brilliant adventures, worlds and wonders I was to see in them. I will carry the Doctor and the lessons I’ve learnt forever.”
- Chibnall said: “Jodie and I made a ‘three series and out’ pact with each other at the start of this once-in-a-lifetime blast.
- So now our shift is done, we’re handing back the Tardis keys.
- “Jodie’s magnificent, iconic Doctor has exceeded all our high expectations.
- She’s been the gold-standard leading actor, shouldering the responsibility of being the first female Doctor with style, strength, warmth, generosity and humour.”
- In social media posts, the BBC said the pair leave “in a trio of specials, culminating in an epic blockbuster to air in autumn 2022 as part of the BBC’s centenary celebrations.”
- Whittaker will also be seen in one more series later this year before she departs. The 13th series of the show that was revived by Russell T Davies in 2005 is expected to air in the autumn, and will consist of eight episodes filmed amid Covid restrictions.
- Comedian John Bishop will be joining the regular cast as new character Dan, alongside Mandip Gill reprising her role as companion Yasmin Khan.
- Whittaker’s casting was first announced in 2017, when she was chosen to follow Peter Capaldi as the Time Lord by incoming showrunner Chris Chibnall.
- Chibnall and Whittaker had worked together on the acclaimed ITV drama Broadchurch.
- The change to a female Doctor caused a ratings surge when Whittaker first appeared, but also upset a vocal minority of fans who objected to the time-travelling face-changing alien having a different gender.
- Viewers have fallen away during her two series so far.
- Nevertheless, the 2021 New Year’s Day special – Revolution of the Daleks – which featured the return of popular character Captain Jack Harkness, played by John Barrowman, was the BBC’s most watched programme on the day.
- Barrowman has subsequently become embroiled in controversy over his behaviour on the set of Doctor Who between 2005 and 2009.
- Piers Wenger, director of BBC drama, said: “Over the last four years Chris and Jodie have made Doctor Who history and their time on the show is indelibly marked on our memories.
- “From Rosa Parks to Ascension of the Cybermen, Chris and Jodie have given Doctor Who some of its most life-affirming and tear-jerking moments to date, and we are beyond excited to see what they have in store for us in the new series this autumn.
- “Jodie’s final adventure to mark the BBC’s centenary in 2022 is set to be a Doctor Who special to remember. I’d like to thank them both for their incredible work on the show.”
- Whittaker hasn’t been the only woman to play the iconic role on screen in the show’s history.
- Joanna Lumley appeared as the Doctor in a 1999 Comic Relief skit that saw Rowan Atkinson, Richard E Grant, Jim Broadbent and Hugh Grant also give their takes on the Time Lord.
- Jo Martin appeared in the most recent series as the first Black person to play Doctor Who, with the storyline casting her as a “fugitive Doctor” and leaving it unclear as to where exactly she fits into the show’s timeline.
- Some fans have speculated that she may ultimately turn out to be Whittaker’s permanent replacement.
- Doctor Who is the longest-running sci-fi/fantasy show on television, having first been broadcast with William Hartnell as Doctor Who in 1963.
- Sales of DVDs and merchandise have made it one of the BBC’s most valuable international properties, and there is currently an immersive theatrical production called Doctor Who: Time Fracture running in London.
- Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker and showrunner Chris Chibnall will both leave the programme in 2022, the BBC has confirmed.

- Lupin

- Inspired by the adventures of Arsène Lupin, gentleman thief Assane Diop sets out to avenge his father for an injustice inflicted by a wealthy family.
- Lupin is a French mystery thriller streaming television series created by George Kay and François Uzan that premiered on Netflix on 8 January 2021. The series consists of ten episodes, with the first five released in January 2021 and the remainder on 11 June 2021. Netflix has renewed Lupin for a third part.
- The show stars Omar Sy in the role of Assane Diop, a man who is inspired by the adventures of master thief Arsène Lupin, a character created by Maurice Leblanc in the early 1900s. The first part, consisting of five episodes, is subtitled Dans l’ombre d’Arsène (In the Shadow of Arsène), referring to the primary character’s inspiration. The series was watched by 70 million households during its first month, becoming the most-watched non-English series on Netflix.

- Real estate agent Luke Roman is the owner of The Roman Agency, a boutique residential real estate brokerage specializing in “metaphysically engaged” properties, also known as haunted houses.
- Luke has a special connection to the spiritual realm; he can not only sense the presence that might inhabit a client’s house, he can often communicate and negotiate with it.
- Along with his team, Luke takes on the houses nobody else can or will.
- The show is a refreshing take on the supernatural in a fictional setting.
- Often relegated to police dramas or murder mystery style shows the supernatural realm has been getting a bit stale with the exception maybe of the Mockumentary show previously talked about on this podcast “What we do in the Shadows”
- Surreal Estate is a mix of mystery, comedy and a dash of supernatural reality TV like Ghosthunters.
- A team of paranormal experts help to investigate events in “metaphysically engaged” houses and help determine the causes and ultimately the solution to those issues so weary owners can sell them.
- It sounds like a new reality show, but this is a scripted drama and one that is very well done
- The characters have a depth and complexity right off that bat that you don’t normally see in shows today
- There’s a chemistry with the cast that makes the entire show work
- There’s enough plot in each show to make them unique while the over arching story is advanced consistently with each show
- You don’t feel there’s a minute of time in any episode wasted to pointless story telling, which is a testament to the show writers
- I’ve enjoyed each episode so far and I’m excited to see where the series leads.

0:03:03.200,0:03:08.000
are we ready to get started let’s do it
0:03:05.360,0:03:08.000
all right
0:03:12.800,0:03:16.239
go for disney detective so our first
0:03:14.879,0:03:19.599
story came from
0:03:16.239,0:03:22.640
uh local local10.com news um
0:03:19.599,0:03:24.720
and it is uh out of orlando
0:03:22.640,0:03:26.799
and it basically came out saying that
0:03:24.720,0:03:27.680
the walt disney company had announced on
0:03:26.799,0:03:30.159
friday
0:03:27.680,0:03:31.200
that they are now requiring all of their
0:03:30.159,0:03:34.480
salaried
0:03:31.200,0:03:35.599
and non-union hourly employees working
0:03:34.480,0:03:38.080
at the sites
0:03:35.599,0:03:39.440
in the u.s to be vaccinated against
0:03:38.080,0:03:41.519
covid19
0:03:39.440,0:03:43.519
they had said at the walt disney company
0:03:41.519,0:03:44.640
the safety and well-being of our
0:03:43.519,0:03:46.720
employees
0:03:44.640,0:03:47.760
during the pandemic has been and
0:03:46.720,0:03:49.920
continues
0:03:47.760,0:03:51.440
to be a top priority the company had
0:03:49.920,0:03:53.280
said in a statement
0:03:51.440,0:03:55.200
according to the statement employees who
0:03:53.280,0:03:58.879
are not currently vaccinated
0:03:55.200,0:04:01.439
will have 60 days from friday to do so
0:03:58.879,0:04:02.000
employees who are currently working from
0:04:01.439,0:04:03.760
home
0:04:02.000,0:04:06.319
will need to show proof that they have
0:04:03.760,0:04:09.519
been vaccinated prior to returning
0:04:06.319,0:04:12.159
with certain limited exceptions
0:04:09.519,0:04:14.560
we have also begun conversations around
0:04:12.159,0:04:16.639
this topic with the unions representing
0:04:14.560,0:04:18.880
our employees under collective
0:04:16.639,0:04:19.759
bargaining agreements the statement also
0:04:18.880,0:04:22.800
said
0:04:19.759,0:04:23.280
in addition to new hires i’m sorry in
0:04:22.800,0:04:25.600
addition
0:04:23.280,0:04:26.880
all new hires will be required to be
0:04:25.600,0:04:29.520
fully vaccinated
0:04:26.880,0:04:30.320
before beginning their employment
0:04:29.520,0:04:33.520
employment
0:04:30.320,0:04:35.280
vaccines are the best tool that we all
0:04:33.520,0:04:37.600
have to help control the
0:04:35.280,0:04:38.720
global pandemic and protect our
0:04:37.600,0:04:41.040
employees
0:04:38.720,0:04:42.080
and then earlier this week disney had
0:04:41.040,0:04:43.600
actually announced
0:04:42.080,0:04:45.120
that they would once again be
0:04:43.600,0:04:48.080
implementing the mask
0:04:45.120,0:04:49.360
mandate in all of its parks so beginning
0:04:48.080,0:04:51.520
last friday
0:04:49.360,0:04:52.880
guests are required now to wear masks
0:04:51.520,0:04:56.400
while indoors
0:04:52.880,0:04:59.280
and aboard all resort transportation
0:04:56.400,0:05:01.360
regardless of their vaccine status
0:04:59.280,0:05:03.120
interesting well you know i’m not
0:05:01.360,0:05:06.560
surprised by this
0:05:03.120,0:05:07.759
um i i’m shocked that we haven’t had a
0:05:06.560,0:05:11.199
lawsuit yet
0:05:07.759,0:05:13.039
right um i and this is
0:05:11.199,0:05:14.400
again it’s murky water i don’t know i
0:05:13.039,0:05:17.120
don’t know where you can
0:05:14.400,0:05:19.039
can there’s no precedent for saying that
0:05:17.120,0:05:20.400
you have to get a vaccine especially
0:05:19.039,0:05:21.840
considering the vaccine right now is
0:05:20.400,0:05:24.479
still
0:05:21.840,0:05:26.560
not fully approved by the fda right and
0:05:24.479,0:05:29.520
i think there was an article
0:05:26.560,0:05:30.880
uh that said by september it was going
0:05:29.520,0:05:32.720
to be the pfizer vaccine
0:05:30.880,0:05:34.880
the five years vaccine they’re trying to
0:05:32.720,0:05:37.039
get full approval from the fda by
0:05:34.880,0:05:39.199
september right but the problem is how
0:05:37.039,0:05:42.240
can you force someone to get
0:05:39.199,0:05:43.680
a medication that one they might not be
0:05:42.240,0:05:45.440
able to take so you have right
0:05:43.680,0:05:47.840
exceptions to that and and that’s
0:05:45.440,0:05:51.280
probably where when it talks about
0:05:47.840,0:05:54.560
you know certain limited exceptions
0:05:51.280,0:05:56.400
you know that was in quote so i’m sure
0:05:54.560,0:05:58.720
you know that’s where it kind of falls
0:05:56.400,0:06:02.160
in for people who medically
0:05:58.720,0:06:05.280
can’t right get it well and there’s
0:06:02.160,0:06:08.080
there’s um
0:06:05.280,0:06:08.400
institutions now that require you to
0:06:08.080,0:06:10.240
show
0:06:08.400,0:06:12.080
proof of vaccination well you have
0:06:10.240,0:06:13.520
people that are already filing lawsuits
0:06:12.080,0:06:15.759
saying that’s a hipaa violation
0:06:13.520,0:06:18.840
right that it’s my personal health and i
0:06:15.759,0:06:22.000
don’t have to provide that information
0:06:18.840,0:06:22.880
so i mean on one hand good for disney
0:06:22.000,0:06:26.080
that they’re they’re
0:06:22.880,0:06:28.560
trying to protect people right right but
0:06:26.080,0:06:29.840
this is something that i can see blowing
0:06:28.560,0:06:32.000
up in their faces real quick
0:06:29.840,0:06:33.039
and this they’re not the only company
0:06:32.000,0:06:34.880
doing this now
0:06:33.039,0:06:36.240
um i believe there was an article that
0:06:34.880,0:06:40.240
came out
0:06:36.240,0:06:40.560
um about microsoft microsoft was going
0:06:40.240,0:06:42.800
to
0:06:40.560,0:06:44.560
not only their employees they’re
0:06:42.800,0:06:46.720
requiring them to approach
0:06:44.560,0:06:48.080
provide proof of vaccinations right but
0:06:46.720,0:06:51.520
vendors coming
0:06:48.080,0:06:52.400
to their building as well we’re going to
0:06:51.520,0:06:55.199
have to
0:06:52.400,0:06:57.280
show proof of vaccination as well so
0:06:55.199,0:06:59.599
you’re starting to see
0:06:57.280,0:07:02.080
more and more people i guess taking it a
0:06:59.599,0:07:04.160
little bit more seriously than
0:07:02.080,0:07:06.080
you know and i’m not saying that they
0:07:04.160,0:07:08.400
shouldn’t do these things
0:07:06.080,0:07:10.240
i just think that our current laws are
0:07:08.400,0:07:12.000
incompatible with them so you’re going
0:07:10.240,0:07:13.280
to have to have some kind of legal
0:07:12.000,0:07:15.520
precedent
0:07:13.280,0:07:17.039
that says okay in these extenuating
0:07:15.520,0:07:18.560
circumstances
0:07:17.039,0:07:20.479
they can ask for this information or
0:07:18.560,0:07:21.680
they can demand that you get take this
0:07:20.479,0:07:23.520
tree like
0:07:21.680,0:07:25.520
to me i equate it to sending our kids to
0:07:23.520,0:07:25.919
school in order to send your kid to
0:07:25.520,0:07:28.240
school
0:07:25.919,0:07:30.400
you have to have this entire battery of
0:07:28.240,0:07:30.639
vaccinations right you have to provide
0:07:30.400,0:07:34.560
it
0:07:30.639,0:07:37.199
or if you don’t believe in vaccinations
0:07:34.560,0:07:39.440
you have to have some sort of
0:07:37.199,0:07:41.120
letter from your church saying that it’s
0:07:39.440,0:07:44.560
against
0:07:41.120,0:07:47.360
you know your religion okay so
0:07:44.560,0:07:48.800
if i have to do that to send my child to
0:07:47.360,0:07:51.440
school
0:07:48.800,0:07:53.120
right and now the exception there is
0:07:51.440,0:07:55.759
those vaccines are all
0:07:53.120,0:07:57.039
fully fda approved right none of the
0:07:55.759,0:07:59.440
vaccines that we’re talking about
0:07:57.039,0:08:01.280
here are at this time at this time and
0:07:59.440,0:08:01.680
that may be the exception to this rule
0:08:01.280,0:08:04.080
where
0:08:01.680,0:08:05.919
you can’t do it right without that fda
0:08:04.080,0:08:07.599
approval i don’t know but
0:08:05.919,0:08:09.120
this is a legal this is a series of
0:08:07.599,0:08:10.080
legal cases that are oh yeah just
0:08:09.120,0:08:13.199
waiting to happen
0:08:10.080,0:08:14.160
yeah who knows where you know it’s gonna
0:08:13.199,0:08:16.319
go at this point
0:08:14.160,0:08:18.319
yeah but on a brighter note let’s talk a
0:08:16.319,0:08:18.960
little a little bit about the haunted
0:08:18.319,0:08:21.199
mansion
0:08:18.960,0:08:22.000
so this was some news that that came out
0:08:21.199,0:08:24.319
last week
0:08:22.000,0:08:26.720
uh so it seems so this article happened
0:08:24.319,0:08:28.639
to be from deadline.com but it was all
0:08:26.720,0:08:32.000
over various different places
0:08:28.639,0:08:35.839
so it seems like keith stanfield
0:08:32.000,0:08:37.440
and uh tiffany haddish are now in talks
0:08:35.839,0:08:40.640
to start in disney’s new
0:08:37.440,0:08:42.800
haunted mansion uh movie so
0:08:40.640,0:08:44.080
the production team that produced the
0:08:42.800,0:08:46.959
live action
0:08:44.080,0:08:47.360
hit aladdin would be producing through
0:08:46.959,0:08:50.560
their
0:08:47.360,0:08:53.839
ride back banner um so um
0:08:50.560,0:08:57.040
and it looked like justin
0:08:53.839,0:08:57.680
simon uh would be directing um other
0:08:57.040,0:09:00.160
than that
0:08:57.680,0:09:01.200
really not a whole lot of information
0:09:00.160,0:09:04.080
about
0:09:01.200,0:09:05.279
how the story would be um you know where
0:09:04.080,0:09:07.440
they’re going with it
0:09:05.279,0:09:09.040
just you know these this is our first
0:09:07.440,0:09:12.240
little um
0:09:09.040,0:09:15.120
hint you know our little taste uh
0:09:12.240,0:09:15.920
or ortiz of this um so the haunted
0:09:15.120,0:09:19.120
mansion ride
0:09:15.920,0:09:22.240
obviously debuted in 1969 and has been
0:09:19.120,0:09:24.720
a park favorite uh ever since appearing
0:09:22.240,0:09:26.880
in both disneyland and disney world
0:09:24.720,0:09:28.399
so the premise behind the the ride if
0:09:26.880,0:09:31.200
you’ve never gone or
0:09:28.399,0:09:32.880
or watched any of our podcasts where i
0:09:31.200,0:09:34.720
talk about the haunted mansion
0:09:32.880,0:09:36.480
the idea is that you’re you know taking
0:09:34.720,0:09:40.080
a ride through
0:09:36.480,0:09:41.200
a haunted house um and there are some
0:09:40.080,0:09:44.560
very classic
0:09:41.200,0:09:47.760
characters um you have madame leota and
0:09:44.560,0:09:51.120
the bride and the hatbox ghost
0:09:47.760,0:09:54.160
um so uh you know so it’s
0:09:51.120,0:09:56.959
it’s chock full of all of these
0:09:54.160,0:09:58.959
uh iconic characters that could be part
0:09:56.959,0:10:01.040
of it or maybe not at all
0:09:58.959,0:10:02.880
um now if you’re saying hey wait a
0:10:01.040,0:10:06.480
second didn’t they already do this
0:10:02.880,0:10:10.320
um they did they actually had adapted
0:10:06.480,0:10:10.880
the ride into the 2003 uh movie which
0:10:10.320,0:10:15.200
was
0:10:10.880,0:10:18.320
directed by rob minkoff and starred
0:10:15.200,0:10:20.640
eddie murphy which had moderate success
0:10:18.320,0:10:21.760
and those that are haunted mansion fans
0:10:20.640,0:10:24.560
are kind of
0:10:21.760,0:10:24.959
you know 50 50 on it some enjoyed it
0:10:24.560,0:10:27.839
some
0:10:24.959,0:10:28.800
thought it was horrible um so maybe now
0:10:27.839,0:10:33.040
they’re going to take a
0:10:28.800,0:10:35.040
another stab at this and and
0:10:33.040,0:10:36.079
maybe it’ll be a little bit more darker
0:10:35.040,0:10:39.600
because that
0:10:36.079,0:10:42.320
um was something that had been hinted at
0:10:39.600,0:10:42.959
years ago as well after the original
0:10:42.320,0:10:45.040
movie came
0:10:42.959,0:10:46.480
out that they were gonna do a different
0:10:45.040,0:10:48.240
version of the haunted mansion and
0:10:46.480,0:10:51.680
actually have it be a little
0:10:48.240,0:10:52.720
darker so we’ll see we’ll see what comes
0:10:51.680,0:10:54.880
off
0:10:52.720,0:10:56.560
from this disney couldn’t do any worse
0:10:54.880,0:10:58.240
than than the eddie murphy one because
0:10:56.560,0:11:01.680
it really was a terrible movie
0:10:58.240,0:11:03.760
it wasn’t that bad um so
0:11:01.680,0:11:04.720
the eddie murphy one so there’s a number
0:11:03.760,0:11:06.320
of stories
0:11:04.720,0:11:08.000
story lines that are associated with the
0:11:06.320,0:11:09.600
haunted house yeah
0:11:08.000,0:11:11.120
was the one that was pursued in the
0:11:09.600,0:11:12.560
eddie murphy movie
0:11:11.120,0:11:14.640
one that was a traditional one of the
0:11:12.560,0:11:15.360
taunt mansion no that was one they kind
0:11:14.640,0:11:18.240
of
0:11:15.360,0:11:19.600
you know they had different aspects
0:11:18.240,0:11:22.640
different characters
0:11:19.600,0:11:26.160
from the ride that were part of it
0:11:22.640,0:11:29.680
but the underlining love story
0:11:26.160,0:11:32.000
type thing um you know wasn’t
0:11:29.680,0:11:32.720
wasn’t one of the main ones that they so
0:11:32.000,0:11:36.560
if you could
0:11:32.720,0:11:39.040
have one of the known associated
0:11:36.560,0:11:40.880
audit mansion stories as this as the
0:11:39.040,0:11:44.399
theme for this movie which would it be
0:11:40.880,0:11:45.839
oh i don’t know that’s a tough one
0:11:44.399,0:11:47.920
because i think no matter what you do
0:11:45.839,0:11:48.720
you have to incorporate the psychopathic
0:11:47.920,0:11:50.720
bride
0:11:48.720,0:11:51.760
yeah i definitely think you have to have
0:11:50.720,0:11:55.440
she’s like one of the
0:11:51.760,0:11:57.760
biggest like parts of the ride itself
0:11:55.440,0:12:00.160
right but she wasn’t but she wasn’t even
0:11:57.760,0:12:03.120
in the original ride like you always had
0:12:00.160,0:12:03.680
the bride there was always you know the
0:12:03.120,0:12:07.040
ghost
0:12:03.680,0:12:09.519
bride right but up until recently
0:12:07.040,0:12:10.160
she became you know the black widow
0:12:09.519,0:12:12.240
bride
0:12:10.160,0:12:14.800
where she you know killed all her
0:12:12.240,0:12:17.440
husbands and and things like that so
0:12:14.800,0:12:18.560
that would kind of be an interesting
0:12:17.440,0:12:19.200
take on it what happens when you
0:12:18.560,0:12:22.959
introduce
0:12:19.200,0:12:22.959
life insurance policies to the mix
0:12:23.279,0:12:28.240
true true that was all we had for our
0:12:26.079,0:12:29.600
disney detective this week
0:12:28.240,0:12:32.560
we’re going to take a quick break and
0:12:29.600,0:12:38.880
we’ll be right back with our
0:12:32.560,0:12:41.570
tales from the edge of the galaxy

0:13:51.440,0:13:54.639
go for tails from the edge of the galaxy
0:13:53.440,0:13:57.920
so it seems that
0:13:54.639,0:13:59.360
mark hamill uh obviously who we all know
0:13:57.920,0:14:02.959
played luke skywalker
0:13:59.360,0:14:04.800
he did yeah
0:14:02.959,0:14:07.519
so it seems that there were some newly
0:14:04.800,0:14:08.639
released set photos from the mandalorian
0:14:07.519,0:14:10.160
season two
0:14:08.639,0:14:11.839
so when disney announced it would
0:14:10.160,0:14:14.320
continue its expansion
0:14:11.839,0:14:16.639
of the star wars universe by creating
0:14:14.320,0:14:18.560
live-action shows for its streaming
0:14:16.639,0:14:19.360
service there was both obviously
0:14:18.560,0:14:22.399
excitement
0:14:19.360,0:14:24.480
and apprehension among the fan base
0:14:22.399,0:14:26.320
so luckily the first of many planned
0:14:24.480,0:14:29.120
shows the mandalorian
0:14:26.320,0:14:31.040
won over audiences immediately with its
0:14:29.120,0:14:34.560
simple yet compelling tale
0:14:31.040,0:14:37.120
and deeper world building
0:14:34.560,0:14:37.600
the series reached greater heights last
0:14:37.120,0:14:39.920
year
0:14:37.600,0:14:41.120
with the arrival of season 2 which
0:14:39.920,0:14:43.760
actually featured
0:14:41.120,0:14:45.120
numerous surprises but probably the
0:14:43.760,0:14:48.160
highest point of
0:14:45.120,0:14:50.399
season two is perhaps the end after
0:14:48.160,0:14:51.279
spending eight episodes trying to find a
0:14:50.399,0:14:54.560
suitable
0:14:51.279,0:14:57.839
jedi mentor for young grogu
0:14:54.560,0:14:58.800
our mandalorian comes face to face with
0:14:57.839,0:15:01.839
none other than
0:14:58.800,0:15:03.120
luke skywalker himself uh drawn by
0:15:01.839,0:15:06.000
grogu’s power
0:15:03.120,0:15:07.519
luke arrives just when it seems all hope
0:15:06.000,0:15:11.040
is lost
0:15:07.519,0:15:14.160
maybe a new hope um to save dinner
0:15:11.040,0:15:16.560
right grogu and their allies and
0:15:14.160,0:15:19.519
uh as this wasn’t revealed ahead of time
0:15:16.560,0:15:21.760
the mandalorians luke surprise
0:15:19.519,0:15:23.600
quickly became one of the biggest and
0:15:21.760,0:15:26.160
best plot points
0:15:23.600,0:15:26.800
of the year i remember i cried when you
0:15:26.160,0:15:28.639
know
0:15:26.800,0:15:30.399
when it was a goosebumps it was it was
0:15:28.639,0:15:32.800
definitely a goosebumpy moment
0:15:30.399,0:15:33.600
so the mandalorian season two finale
0:15:32.800,0:15:36.320
will actually
0:15:33.600,0:15:38.639
get a behind-the-scenes special on
0:15:36.320,0:15:40.000
disney plus with the addition of a new
0:15:38.639,0:15:43.519
episode of
0:15:40.000,0:15:46.320
disney gallery star wars the mandalorian
0:15:43.519,0:15:48.480
so in a trailer for what’s uh to come in
0:15:46.320,0:15:51.759
august disney plus actually revealed
0:15:48.480,0:15:54.880
a quick new shot of hamel on the set as
0:15:51.759,0:15:56.959
luke there’s also one of grogu offering
0:15:54.880,0:15:59.920
a little wave to the audience
0:15:56.959,0:16:02.800
uh hamill obviously had to be digitally
0:15:59.920,0:16:05.360
de-aged to play luke for the mandalorian
0:16:02.800,0:16:06.639
and there are moments that were shot
0:16:05.360,0:16:08.880
with a stand-in
0:16:06.639,0:16:10.399
so however the actor made it clear that
0:16:08.880,0:16:12.480
he was there on set
0:16:10.399,0:16:14.320
for the scene and the above picture
0:16:12.480,0:16:16.320
actually confirmed it and he even got to
0:16:14.320,0:16:18.240
hold groga which i thought was
0:16:16.320,0:16:20.320
really cute you know that they had that
0:16:18.240,0:16:21.759
little moment so the disney gallery
0:16:20.320,0:16:23.279
episode will provide more
0:16:21.759,0:16:25.440
behind-the-scenes info
0:16:23.279,0:16:27.040
about how the mandalorian season 2
0:16:25.440,0:16:28.959
finale came together
0:16:27.040,0:16:31.839
and there will be likely additional
0:16:28.959,0:16:34.800
footage of hamel on the set
0:16:31.839,0:16:37.199
so it can also reveal how the cgi and
0:16:34.800,0:16:40.480
the stand-in and how all of that kind of
0:16:37.199,0:16:43.680
came together for this um
0:16:40.480,0:16:45.519
so again you know a lot of fans thought
0:16:43.680,0:16:47.040
that since rise of skywalker
0:16:45.519,0:16:49.600
that was the last time we were going to
0:16:47.040,0:16:52.800
see him but now that he showed up on
0:16:49.600,0:16:54.240
the mandalorian now there’s opportunity
0:16:52.800,0:16:56.720
obviously for him to
0:16:54.240,0:16:58.480
continue on so whether he could ever
0:16:56.720,0:17:00.560
return remains to be seen
0:16:58.480,0:17:01.680
but as grogu left with luke at the end
0:17:00.560,0:17:03.600
of the episode
0:17:01.680,0:17:06.079
it isn’t out of the question so the
0:17:03.600,0:17:09.120
latest episode of disney gallery
0:17:06.079,0:17:12.400
gallery will arrive later this month
0:17:09.120,0:17:13.679
on august 25th that’s an awfully long
0:17:12.400,0:17:16.319
time to wait for that
0:17:13.679,0:17:17.520
that episode man that’s not that long
0:17:16.319,0:17:20.640
it’s already the
0:17:17.520,0:17:22.720
fourth so 20 days 21 days
0:17:20.640,0:17:23.919
three weeks you’re fine so what do you
0:17:22.720,0:17:24.559
think you think rogue is going to get
0:17:23.919,0:17:27.520
his own
0:17:24.559,0:17:28.000
series now that would be adorable but i
0:17:27.520,0:17:30.559
don’t know
0:17:28.000,0:17:31.200
i think you know like you kind of don’t
0:17:30.559,0:17:34.720
want to
0:17:31.200,0:17:37.039
overdo it with the cuteness if there’s
0:17:34.720,0:17:39.919
one thing that we can describe the new
0:17:37.039,0:17:42.720
disney star wars as it’s overdone
0:17:39.919,0:17:44.160
everything is overdone with it true
0:17:42.720,0:17:47.200
disney if they think they can make a
0:17:44.160,0:17:49.679
dollar off of it oh absolutely
0:17:47.200,0:17:51.200
i could see you know i don’t know maybe
0:17:49.679,0:17:54.960
a cartoon
0:17:51.200,0:17:58.080
see i don’t think he i would love to see
0:17:54.960,0:18:00.720
mark hamill come back and see more
0:17:58.080,0:18:03.120
luke skywalker stories and they’ve
0:18:00.720,0:18:05.360
proven that they can do it now
0:18:03.120,0:18:06.960
yeah like there’s absolutely no reason
0:18:05.360,0:18:07.840
why you can’t do it at this point in
0:18:06.960,0:18:09.520
time
0:18:07.840,0:18:11.280
because they did such a fantastic job
0:18:09.520,0:18:14.880
with it oh absolutely
0:18:11.280,0:18:15.440
given the the terrible use of mark
0:18:14.880,0:18:17.919
hamill
0:18:15.440,0:18:19.280
in the sequel trilogies that’s the least
0:18:17.919,0:18:22.000
you could do yeah i was gonna say
0:18:19.280,0:18:22.320
it would it it definitely would be kind
0:18:22.000,0:18:25.840
of
0:18:22.320,0:18:27.039
the the payback right for all the
0:18:25.840,0:18:29.039
horrible like you said all the
0:18:27.039,0:18:29.760
horribleness that you did in the the
0:18:29.039,0:18:32.160
trilogy
0:18:29.760,0:18:34.240
yeah the new trilogy where here he could
0:18:32.160,0:18:35.760
kind of redeem himself
0:18:34.240,0:18:37.840
that would be awesome that would be that
0:18:35.760,0:18:40.840
would be cool i could see a grogu
0:18:37.840,0:18:42.080
and luke uh you know what else would be
0:18:40.840,0:18:45.200
awesome
0:18:42.080,0:18:46.000
it would be awesome to take a trip to a
0:18:45.200,0:18:49.039
galaxy far
0:18:46.000,0:18:51.360
far away and not have it cost an
0:18:49.039,0:18:52.690
arm and a leg although that does fit the
0:18:51.360,0:18:54.240
star wars theme doesn’t it
0:18:52.690,0:18:55.840
[Laughter]
0:18:54.240,0:18:57.679
let’s talk about the galactic stark
0:18:55.840,0:19:00.640
reason uh so
0:18:57.679,0:19:01.440
last week um there was a video that
0:19:00.640,0:19:04.400
popped up
0:19:01.440,0:19:05.120
from i think it was disney parks uh it
0:19:04.400,0:19:08.320
was kind of
0:19:05.120,0:19:11.440
a insider’s look at um
0:19:08.320,0:19:13.440
the stark the galactic star cruiser uh
0:19:11.440,0:19:15.360
talking with some of the imagineers who
0:19:13.440,0:19:17.039
worked on the project talking about how
0:19:15.360,0:19:18.000
long that they’ve been working on this
0:19:17.039,0:19:21.520
project
0:19:18.000,0:19:25.120
so now we’re actually getting um
0:19:21.520,0:19:25.840
i guess uh a first official commercial
0:19:25.120,0:19:29.600
for it
0:19:25.840,0:19:32.480
and pricing as well so now you can
0:19:29.600,0:19:34.000
save all those pennies and find out how
0:19:32.480,0:19:36.240
much it’s really gonna cost
0:19:34.000,0:19:38.000
um so the star wars galactic star
0:19:36.240,0:19:41.200
cruiser has been in development
0:19:38.000,0:19:44.320
for i think they said six years roughly
0:19:41.200,0:19:46.320
um so while details about what uh can be
0:19:44.320,0:19:48.559
expected from this unique resort
0:19:46.320,0:19:50.240
experience have still been let out kind
0:19:48.559,0:19:52.799
of drips and drabs
0:19:50.240,0:19:54.160
over the last few years disney today
0:19:52.799,0:19:56.559
dropped its first
0:19:54.160,0:19:58.799
commercial for the resort and updated
0:19:56.559,0:19:59.919
the official site to offer some key
0:19:58.799,0:20:01.919
details
0:19:59.919,0:20:03.039
so first up the commercial doesn’t show
0:20:01.919,0:20:05.120
off too much
0:20:03.039,0:20:06.880
that wasn’t already known but it does
0:20:05.120,0:20:08.880
give a new look
0:20:06.880,0:20:09.919
at the standard room that will be
0:20:08.880,0:20:11.600
available
0:20:09.919,0:20:13.039
and kind of sets the tone for the
0:20:11.600,0:20:15.600
experience
0:20:13.039,0:20:17.039
the more illuminating parts of the new
0:20:15.600,0:20:19.440
information released today
0:20:17.039,0:20:20.240
involve the pricing and what will be
0:20:19.440,0:20:23.120
included
0:20:20.240,0:20:26.159
with that cost it was known as the
0:20:23.120,0:20:28.240
galactic star cruiser
0:20:26.159,0:20:30.400
it was always known that the galactic
0:20:28.240,0:20:34.159
star cruiser would not be
0:20:30.400,0:20:35.679
a budget offering so on that front there
0:20:34.159,0:20:38.480
are no surprises
0:20:35.679,0:20:39.039
so a two-night stay which is all that
0:20:38.480,0:20:42.240
you
0:20:39.039,0:20:43.280
can book it’s it’s a minimum maximum of
0:20:42.240,0:20:47.280
two nights
0:20:43.280,0:20:50.640
in a standard room for two people
0:20:47.280,0:20:51.120
during off season which would be august
0:20:50.640,0:20:56.640
through
0:20:51.120,0:20:56.640
september would come at
0:20:56.840,0:21:01.919
4809
0:20:59.600,0:21:03.760
that goes up if you have a family of
0:21:01.919,0:21:06.559
four to almost
0:21:03.760,0:21:08.240
six thousand dollars so no sample
0:21:06.559,0:21:10.400
pricing is given for the
0:21:08.240,0:21:11.280
larger suites that are supposed to be
0:21:10.400,0:21:13.039
available
0:21:11.280,0:21:14.880
so now you’re asking all right what do i
0:21:13.039,0:21:18.159
get for all of that
0:21:14.880,0:21:20.400
so disney has added some details as well
0:21:18.159,0:21:22.320
so with your galactic star cruiser
0:21:20.400,0:21:25.360
vacation package you get
0:21:22.320,0:21:27.840
the two night stay in a cabin or a suite
0:21:25.360,0:21:28.880
ongoing immersive and interactive
0:21:27.840,0:21:30.720
entertainment
0:21:28.880,0:21:32.080
where choices will determine your
0:21:30.720,0:21:34.320
experience
0:21:32.080,0:21:35.120
food and beverage on the star cruiser
0:21:34.320,0:21:38.159
excluding
0:21:35.120,0:21:39.280
alcoholic and specialty beverages and a
0:21:38.159,0:21:42.559
quick service meal
0:21:39.280,0:21:43.760
at docking bay 7 food and cargo or other
0:21:42.559,0:21:46.559
select locations
0:21:43.760,0:21:48.720
at disney’s hollywood studio admission
0:21:46.559,0:21:50.960
to disney’s hollywood studio for your
0:21:48.720,0:21:54.159
planetary excursion
0:21:50.960,0:21:54.799
to star wars galaxy’s edge we have a cat
0:21:54.159,0:21:57.760
scratching
0:21:54.799,0:21:58.159
so it’s kind of funny um valet parking
0:21:57.760,0:22:01.200
an
0:21:58.159,0:22:02.159
exclusive star wars galactic star
0:22:01.200,0:22:05.200
cruiser
0:22:02.159,0:22:05.919
data band also known as known as a magic
0:22:05.200,0:22:08.960
band
0:22:05.919,0:22:11.280
um as expected the cost will work
0:22:08.960,0:22:14.320
similar to a cruise line with most food
0:22:11.280,0:22:17.440
drink and entertainment included
0:22:14.320,0:22:21.120
with the cost of your room also
0:22:17.440,0:22:24.159
you’ll get the excursion in the form of
0:22:21.120,0:22:26.480
admission to disney’s hollywood park
0:22:24.159,0:22:27.200
which happens to be right next to where
0:22:26.480,0:22:30.640
the hotel
0:22:27.200,0:22:32.559
is uh that park also happens to be where
0:22:30.640,0:22:34.960
star wars galaxy’s edge
0:22:32.559,0:22:36.240
is so that’s kind of you have your
0:22:34.960,0:22:38.080
private entrance
0:22:36.240,0:22:40.880
uh that you’ll be able to get to the
0:22:38.080,0:22:42.559
park from from the hotel
0:22:40.880,0:22:44.400
so the galactic star cruiser is
0:22:42.559,0:22:46.640
scheduled to open next spring
0:22:44.400,0:22:48.880
so there will be obviously more pricing
0:22:46.640,0:22:51.760
and more details obviously to come
0:22:48.880,0:22:53.039
in the coming months in the meantime if
0:22:51.760,0:22:55.679
you go to
0:22:53.039,0:22:58.000
disney’s website i’m sure they’ll have
0:22:55.679,0:23:00.000
more information as time goes on
0:22:58.000,0:23:01.440
you know it’s been a while since i’ve
0:23:00.000,0:23:02.960
bashed disney
0:23:01.440,0:23:04.960
for how long has it been for their
0:23:02.960,0:23:08.559
agreed
0:23:04.960,0:23:12.400
and so forth but that’s ridiculous
0:23:08.559,0:23:15.440
like first of all
0:23:12.400,0:23:16.960
the price is insane i mean that’s like
0:23:15.440,0:23:18.640
a cruise that’s like a that’s like a
0:23:16.960,0:23:20.400
five-day cruise right
0:23:18.640,0:23:22.880
and you’re getting two days out of it
0:23:20.400,0:23:25.919
right which is ridiculous
0:23:22.880,0:23:28.000
um second they’re throwing in
0:23:25.919,0:23:29.600
all these exclusives oh you can get
0:23:28.000,0:23:31.120
valet parking
0:23:29.600,0:23:33.679
because you can’t park at the resort so
0:23:31.120,0:23:36.799
they have to valet parking
0:23:33.679,0:23:38.880
and the you for parking now anyway
0:23:36.799,0:23:40.320
so they shouldn’t be so that’s really
0:23:38.880,0:23:41.919
not free you shouldn’t be doing it in
0:23:40.320,0:23:43.919
the first place right
0:23:41.919,0:23:45.039
they gave you the magic bands but now
0:23:43.919,0:23:46.000
they charge you for it so you’re getting
0:23:45.039,0:23:47.360
it for free
0:23:46.000,0:23:48.840
well that’s not a freebie either because
0:23:47.360,0:23:50.960
you shouldn’t be charging for that
0:23:48.840,0:23:54.320
either
0:23:50.960,0:23:57.360
i i don’t like
0:23:54.320,0:23:58.080
i want to do it i know and we can afford
0:23:57.360,0:24:00.320
to do it
0:23:58.080,0:24:04.880
but i absolutely refuse to pay disney
0:24:00.320,0:24:06.480
that much money for it i really do
0:24:04.880,0:24:08.880
i wonder if they’ll do anything with
0:24:06.480,0:24:11.200
like dvc points
0:24:08.880,0:24:12.400
where you could use dvc points for it
0:24:11.200,0:24:14.240
this is an example
0:24:12.400,0:24:15.600
we’ve talked about this where disney has
0:24:14.240,0:24:16.720
lost a lot of money because of the
0:24:15.600,0:24:18.640
pandemic
0:24:16.720,0:24:20.159
and they’ve invested a lot of money into
0:24:18.640,0:24:21.919
things like this
0:24:20.159,0:24:23.440
and they want to make it all back up in
0:24:21.919,0:24:25.760
two days right
0:24:23.440,0:24:27.600
and that price that’s three times what
0:24:25.760,0:24:30.880
it should be
0:24:27.600,0:24:34.640
and i can’t as much as i love star wars
0:24:30.880,0:24:37.679
and as much as i’d love to do it i just
0:24:34.640,0:24:39.120
morally i can’t pay that right when we
0:24:37.679,0:24:42.480
could spend
0:24:39.120,0:24:46.559
that much and go on a seven-day cruise
0:24:42.480,0:24:48.000
exactly yeah exactly so i was very
0:24:46.559,0:24:51.679
disappointed to see this
0:24:48.000,0:24:52.880
yeah yeah i don’t know maybe maybe at
0:24:51.679,0:24:54.159
some point we’ll be able to do something
0:24:52.880,0:24:56.480
with dvc like you said
0:24:54.159,0:24:59.039
yeah maybe they’ll you know maybe it’s
0:24:56.480,0:25:01.279
half price if you use half disney points
0:24:59.039,0:25:02.320
you know maybe you’re not able to use
0:25:01.279,0:25:05.520
full dvc
0:25:02.320,0:25:08.799
points for it but you can use
0:25:05.520,0:25:12.320
you know i’d be willing to you know
0:25:08.799,0:25:13.919
you get one day in the park right
0:25:12.320,0:25:16.400
it’s a two-day adventure you get one day
0:25:13.919,0:25:19.840
in the park right because the other day
0:25:16.400,0:25:22.400
you’re you know you’re on the doing
0:25:19.840,0:25:22.880
something but it’s only two days and
0:25:22.400,0:25:25.919
that’s
0:25:22.880,0:25:27.679
like if if that was five days i’d be
0:25:25.919,0:25:29.440
okay with it right
0:25:27.679,0:25:32.080
if you could turn that into a five-day
0:25:29.440,0:25:35.120
experience i’d be okay paying that price
0:25:32.080,0:25:36.240
not for two days right it’s like this
0:25:35.120,0:25:37.679
this announcement i
0:25:36.240,0:25:39.600
we’ve been waiting for so long for this
0:25:37.679,0:25:41.679
announcement and it was just
0:25:39.600,0:25:43.279
monumentally disappointing when it came
0:25:41.679,0:25:45.600
out it really was
0:25:43.279,0:25:47.360
like to see that level of unbridled
0:25:45.600,0:25:48.960
greed from disney
0:25:47.360,0:25:50.880
they’re literally trying to make back
0:25:48.960,0:25:53.600
the entire cost of the product
0:25:50.880,0:25:54.880
project in one season well and the other
0:25:53.600,0:25:56.799
thing too that i want to know
0:25:54.880,0:25:58.240
is here’s another thing like when you go
0:25:56.799,0:26:00.559
on a cruise
0:25:58.240,0:26:02.960
um usually there’s you know some daytime
0:26:00.559,0:26:04.880
activity there’s an afternoon activity
0:26:02.960,0:26:07.279
then you have you know your nighttime
0:26:04.880,0:26:10.400
show and then sometimes there’s
0:26:07.279,0:26:11.919
an evening you know activity as well
0:26:10.400,0:26:14.080
and depending on the cruise line that
0:26:11.919,0:26:14.960
you’re on sometimes there are things
0:26:14.080,0:26:18.559
that you can do
0:26:14.960,0:26:19.120
24 7 um you know and one of the things
0:26:18.559,0:26:21.919
from when
0:26:19.120,0:26:22.559
i went on the disney cruise and we’re
0:26:21.919,0:26:24.480
talking
0:26:22.559,0:26:26.400
you know 20 something years ago i don’t
0:26:24.480,0:26:28.880
know again if it’s changed
0:26:26.400,0:26:30.240
i haven’t been on on a disney cruise in
0:26:28.880,0:26:32.960
in a very long time
0:26:30.240,0:26:34.640
was one of the things was depending on
0:26:32.960,0:26:37.679
what time your dinner was
0:26:34.640,0:26:38.720
and what time the last show was you only
0:26:37.679,0:26:41.840
had
0:26:38.720,0:26:43.440
an extra hour that the rest of the night
0:26:41.840,0:26:45.520
time activity like the
0:26:43.440,0:26:47.039
the bars or the clubs were open and then
0:26:45.520,0:26:48.720
everything closed
0:26:47.039,0:26:50.480
so it wasn’t really that it would you
0:26:48.720,0:26:51.279
know it wasn’t like 2 a.m or something
0:26:50.480,0:26:53.360
it was like
0:26:51.279,0:26:55.120
11 o’clock that stuff closed down
0:26:53.360,0:26:56.320
because the staff needed to get to bed
0:26:55.120,0:26:58.720
because they had to
0:26:56.320,0:26:59.600
start the next day so what i’m kind of
0:26:58.720,0:27:03.120
wondering too
0:26:59.600,0:27:03.760
is is it something where by nine o’clock
0:27:03.120,0:27:06.000
at night
0:27:03.760,0:27:07.679
all the activities are done now what do
0:27:06.000,0:27:10.960
you do with the rest of
0:27:07.679,0:27:14.080
you know what else the time has a ship
0:27:10.960,0:27:15.039
and it goes places this is literally a
0:27:14.080,0:27:17.440
hotel
0:27:15.039,0:27:18.960
it goes nowhere you don’t visit any
0:27:17.440,0:27:22.240
place you don’t go to different
0:27:18.960,0:27:25.679
locales it’s a hotel
0:27:22.240,0:27:28.159
disney needs to realize it’s a hotel
0:27:25.679,0:27:29.840
the other thing too is there a pool is
0:27:28.159,0:27:32.399
is this
0:27:29.840,0:27:32.960
can you swim in space does it have any
0:27:32.399,0:27:35.360
sort of
0:27:32.960,0:27:36.720
well i know you can’t scream in space
0:27:35.360,0:27:39.120
but that’s the other thing too
0:27:36.720,0:27:40.559
is you know like when we go to the park
0:27:39.120,0:27:43.039
when we go
0:27:40.559,0:27:44.799
we’re usually there at rope drop or
0:27:43.039,0:27:45.760
pretty close to it and we’re usually
0:27:44.799,0:27:49.279
there until
0:27:45.760,0:27:49.279
right it closes
0:27:49.440,0:27:52.960
you know our money’s worth out of it
0:27:51.279,0:27:55.360
with this again
0:27:52.960,0:27:56.080
what time do the activities start in the
0:27:55.360,0:27:59.440
morning
0:27:56.080,0:28:02.480
what time do the end and then
0:27:59.440,0:28:05.200
you know okay so if the last
0:28:02.480,0:28:06.640
whatever show is at eight o’clock at
0:28:05.200,0:28:08.559
night
0:28:06.640,0:28:10.320
does everybody have to go to bed then
0:28:08.559,0:28:12.320
right or
0:28:10.320,0:28:14.080
is you know i’m sure the bars are gonna
0:28:12.320,0:28:16.000
be open for the parents to
0:28:14.080,0:28:17.039
to stay up because even right now why
0:28:16.000,0:28:18.399
the bars are going to be because they
0:28:17.039,0:28:19.760
have to make money because they’re cash
0:28:18.399,0:28:21.200
bars right because they’re cash bars
0:28:19.760,0:28:21.840
because it’s not included unless you’re
0:28:21.200,0:28:24.640
just getting
0:28:21.840,0:28:26.399
a diet soda or or something but that’s
0:28:24.640,0:28:27.679
that’s also how it is on a regular
0:28:26.399,0:28:30.480
cruise too your alcohol
0:28:27.679,0:28:32.240
usually depends i’m not questioning that
0:28:30.480,0:28:32.960
right right but that’s the whole thing
0:28:32.240,0:28:35.039
is like
0:28:32.960,0:28:36.240
usually oh well the pool is only open
0:28:35.039,0:28:39.760
until 10.
0:28:36.240,0:28:42.480
right okay but if
0:28:39.760,0:28:42.880
you know disney springs is open until
0:28:42.480,0:28:45.600
two
0:28:42.880,0:28:46.240
but i can’t go to disney springs because
0:28:45.600,0:28:48.399
i’m in
0:28:46.240,0:28:49.919
space somewhere no you’re not you’re in
0:28:48.399,0:28:52.720
a hotel actually
0:28:49.919,0:28:54.159
it’s not a ship we have to stop
0:28:52.720,0:28:56.320
pretending that it’s a [ __ ]
0:28:54.159,0:28:58.559
you’re in a ship okay right now right
0:28:56.320,0:29:02.240
you’re in a building right but that and
0:28:58.559,0:29:06.080
i’m i’m guessing people that
0:29:02.240,0:29:07.840
aren’t local to disney world are
0:29:06.080,0:29:09.919
probably going to book
0:29:07.840,0:29:12.399
these two nights along with something
0:29:09.919,0:29:13.840
else because they’re already
0:29:12.399,0:29:15.600
i’m not just going to go down to florida
0:29:13.840,0:29:19.200
for two days well i’m not
0:29:15.600,0:29:20.960
going to spend 5 000 on two nights at
0:29:19.200,0:29:23.039
disney
0:29:20.960,0:29:24.000
i don’t care what you include you could
0:29:23.039,0:29:26.480
have me
0:29:24.000,0:29:28.399
you know having dinner with george lucas
0:29:26.480,0:29:31.600
in the entire star wars cast
0:29:28.399,0:29:33.279
you you would do that for five things no
0:29:31.600,0:29:34.640
because i can’t do it with david brown
0:29:33.279,0:29:35.520
so if i could do it with david prowls
0:29:34.640,0:29:39.440
you might get well
0:29:35.520,0:29:41.440
yeah he’s dead so right so
0:29:39.440,0:29:43.039
like there’s nothing that you can do
0:29:41.440,0:29:46.880
that justifies that cost
0:29:43.039,0:29:48.480
i’m sorry okay i’m sorry
0:29:46.880,0:29:51.279
very very disciplined i won’t book it
0:29:48.480,0:29:51.279
for your birthday then
0:29:51.840,0:29:56.960
yeah like you were going to oh so much
0:29:55.200,0:30:00.000
for our anniversary
0:29:56.960,0:30:03.360
yeah okay you pretend
0:30:00.000,0:30:07.120
i could uh so that was all we had we
0:30:03.360,0:30:07.120
we ended on a sour note there
0:30:07.279,0:30:11.840
so we’ll be right back with our

0:31:22.399,0:31:28.000
go for entertainment news so unless
0:31:25.360,0:31:31.120
you’ve been living under a rock
0:31:28.000,0:31:34.559
this has been the ongoing drama
0:31:31.120,0:31:35.760
of black widow pretty much ever since it
0:31:34.559,0:31:37.840
came out
0:31:35.760,0:31:39.200
so this article happened to come from
0:31:37.840,0:31:42.159
looper.com
0:31:39.200,0:31:44.799
and it talked about how um you know
0:31:42.159,0:31:47.679
kevin feige
0:31:44.799,0:31:48.559
is rumored to have you know a reaction
0:31:47.679,0:31:51.360
to
0:31:48.559,0:31:51.919
scarlett johansson’s black widow drama
0:31:51.360,0:31:54.080
um
0:31:51.919,0:31:55.440
which kind of maybe surprised some
0:31:54.080,0:31:57.679
people so
0:31:55.440,0:31:58.559
not only was the film delayed multiple
0:31:57.679,0:32:01.600
times
0:31:58.559,0:32:02.559
um but natasha romanoff herself was part
0:32:01.600,0:32:04.960
of the mcu
0:32:02.559,0:32:06.399
since iron man 2 hit the theaters back
0:32:04.960,0:32:08.720
in 2010.
0:32:06.399,0:32:11.279
now that’s a long time for such a major
0:32:08.720,0:32:14.159
character to wait for their own movie
0:32:11.279,0:32:15.840
um so the article talks about how you
0:32:14.159,0:32:17.519
know
0:32:15.840,0:32:19.840
you could debate whether or not black
0:32:17.519,0:32:22.399
widow succeeded in making good
0:32:19.840,0:32:24.159
on what natasha romanov and johansen
0:32:22.399,0:32:26.320
deserved in the sense of emotional
0:32:24.159,0:32:27.679
impact within the mcu but the current
0:32:26.320,0:32:30.159
conversation
0:32:27.679,0:32:30.880
has nothing to do with that and it’s all
0:32:30.159,0:32:33.360
about
0:32:30.880,0:32:34.559
money so it seems johansson is
0:32:33.360,0:32:36.559
attempting to sue
0:32:34.559,0:32:37.840
the walt disney company over the release
0:32:36.559,0:32:40.519
of black widow
0:32:37.840,0:32:42.159
specifically the part where the film was
0:32:40.519,0:32:45.120
simultaneously released
0:32:42.159,0:32:47.200
through the theaters and on disney plus
0:32:45.120,0:32:47.519
so the question of how much joe hansen
0:32:47.200,0:32:50.000
or
0:32:47.519,0:32:51.600
any actor will make when their total
0:32:50.000,0:32:54.320
salary is partially
0:32:51.600,0:32:55.039
uh diverged from the theatrical ticket
0:32:54.320,0:32:57.679
sales
0:32:55.039,0:32:59.200
is a major one it’s very likely that
0:32:57.679,0:33:01.760
prior to 2020
0:32:59.200,0:33:02.880
very few people if anyone had even
0:33:01.760,0:33:05.760
considered
0:33:02.880,0:33:07.279
how commonplace simultaneous theatrical
0:33:05.760,0:33:10.080
and at-home releases
0:33:07.279,0:33:12.320
would become so in short it’s just not
0:33:10.080,0:33:14.080
it’s not just about johansen’s paycheck
0:33:12.320,0:33:15.919
that rides on the result of this suit
0:33:14.080,0:33:18.640
between her and disney
0:33:15.919,0:33:19.679
so as you might imagine kevin feige
0:33:18.640,0:33:22.240
whose
0:33:19.679,0:33:23.600
power over the mcu storytelling borders
0:33:22.240,0:33:25.440
on the absolute
0:33:23.600,0:33:27.600
probably has some thoughts about the
0:33:25.440,0:33:30.320
situation they just might not be
0:33:27.600,0:33:30.960
what most people were expecting so it
0:33:30.320,0:33:34.159
seems that
0:33:30.960,0:33:35.600
he is as deep into the worlds of disney
0:33:34.159,0:33:38.159
and marvel as any human
0:33:35.600,0:33:40.559
is capable of and after working with
0:33:38.159,0:33:41.279
scarlett johansson and disney for over a
0:33:40.559,0:33:43.440
decade
0:33:41.279,0:33:45.440
it’s only natural to assume that he’d be
0:33:43.440,0:33:47.440
frustrated with the circumstances
0:33:45.440,0:33:48.799
that led to the public litigation
0:33:47.440,0:33:51.440
between the actress
0:33:48.799,0:33:53.519
and the multimedia giant however it’s
0:33:51.440,0:33:56.480
interesting to see that those
0:33:53.519,0:33:57.039
um whose side he’s apparently come out
0:33:56.480,0:34:00.159
on
0:33:57.039,0:34:03.760
so a former hollywood reporter editor
0:34:00.159,0:34:06.320
wrote a bit about um kevin’s
0:34:03.760,0:34:07.120
place in the situation and his most
0:34:06.320,0:34:10.480
recent
0:34:07.120,0:34:12.000
what am i hearing uh newsletter uh via
0:34:10.480,0:34:15.280
ign
0:34:12.000,0:34:17.359
um the the art of the the
0:34:15.280,0:34:19.200
uh um the reporter had said i’m told
0:34:17.359,0:34:22.000
he’s angry and embarrassed
0:34:19.200,0:34:23.119
he lobbied disney against the day and
0:34:22.000,0:34:25.119
date plan
0:34:23.119,0:34:26.960
for black widow preferring the big
0:34:25.119,0:34:29.839
screen exclusivity
0:34:26.960,0:34:30.159
and not wanting to upset his talent and
0:34:29.839,0:34:32.720
then
0:34:30.159,0:34:33.359
the s hit the fan the movie started
0:34:32.720,0:34:34.960
tanking
0:34:33.359,0:34:37.679
and johansen’s team threatened
0:34:34.960,0:34:39.520
litigation he wanted disney to make
0:34:37.679,0:34:41.679
right by her
0:34:39.520,0:34:42.960
they also go on to say that kevin is a
0:34:41.679,0:34:45.679
company man
0:34:42.960,0:34:47.760
and it’s not as though being in the
0:34:45.679,0:34:50.960
pocket of a major corporation makes him
0:34:47.760,0:34:53.280
incapable of caring about an individual
0:34:50.960,0:34:54.320
likewise it would also be fair to say
0:34:53.280,0:34:57.359
that this claim
0:34:54.320,0:34:58.400
about kevin is true he um he might also
0:34:57.359,0:35:00.880
think disney’s
0:34:58.400,0:35:01.520
decision to respond to the litigation by
0:35:00.880,0:35:03.680
saying
0:35:01.520,0:35:04.960
there is no merit whatsoever to this
0:35:03.680,0:35:07.200
filing
0:35:04.960,0:35:08.880
which is kind of bad for business so
0:35:07.200,0:35:10.720
we’re not talking about
0:35:08.880,0:35:13.359
the literal court here we’re talking
0:35:10.720,0:35:15.280
about the court of public opinion too so
0:35:13.359,0:35:16.800
whether or not kevin actually feels this
0:35:15.280,0:35:19.760
way is kind of unknown
0:35:16.800,0:35:21.760
but it’ll be interesting to see if he
0:35:19.760,0:35:24.079
actually makes any sort of
0:35:21.760,0:35:25.280
public comment the other thing that was
0:35:24.079,0:35:26.480
kind of interesting there was a
0:35:25.280,0:35:29.839
different article
0:35:26.480,0:35:30.800
that most of the other actors from the
0:35:29.839,0:35:34.560
mcu
0:35:30.800,0:35:37.520
none of them have come out in
0:35:34.560,0:35:38.320
you know support or you know against or
0:35:37.520,0:35:40.640
for
0:35:38.320,0:35:42.720
the decision so people are kind of
0:35:40.640,0:35:43.200
wondering about that like what does that
0:35:42.720,0:35:46.480
kind of
0:35:43.200,0:35:49.599
say um you know for them
0:35:46.480,0:35:53.680
you know as well with all of this
0:35:49.599,0:35:56.079
so george takei on on twitter
0:35:53.680,0:35:57.440
had posted a question about just a
0:35:56.079,0:36:00.560
general question of how do you
0:35:57.440,0:36:02.560
feel about this and and using the
0:36:00.560,0:36:04.480
podcast account i had responded to it
0:36:02.560,0:36:06.320
and had a very
0:36:04.480,0:36:08.400
interesting debate with a number of
0:36:06.320,0:36:11.040
people on there okay
0:36:08.400,0:36:12.000
the way that i feel about it is sort of
0:36:11.040,0:36:16.079
how i stated last
0:36:12.000,0:36:18.560
week where i i think she’s being greedy
0:36:16.079,0:36:20.160
now that’s not to say that disney isn’t
0:36:18.560,0:36:21.680
being greedy either disney’s always
0:36:20.160,0:36:23.839
greasy so that kind of goes without
0:36:21.680,0:36:27.680
saying we kind of already touched on
0:36:23.839,0:36:29.760
disney being greedy already um but
0:36:27.680,0:36:30.800
there was a lot of talk about the legal
0:36:29.760,0:36:33.599
standing that she
0:36:30.800,0:36:35.280
has and i you know if you look at it
0:36:33.599,0:36:37.599
strictly on the complaint
0:36:35.280,0:36:39.680
which is published and is available for
0:36:37.599,0:36:42.960
for public consumption
0:36:39.680,0:36:45.599
if you base your view strictly on that
0:36:42.960,0:36:48.079
she’s probably got a strong case however
0:36:45.599,0:36:51.040
knowing how disney does their contracts
0:36:48.079,0:36:51.680
there’s almost always an arbitration
0:36:51.040,0:36:54.320
clause
0:36:51.680,0:36:55.680
in there and there’s no indication
0:36:54.320,0:36:57.359
whatsoever that she went through
0:36:55.680,0:36:59.839
arbitration with this
0:36:57.359,0:37:01.760
she had nego it says in the complaint
0:36:59.839,0:37:03.280
that she tried to negotiate her
0:37:01.760,0:37:04.640
production company tried to negotiate
0:37:03.280,0:37:07.760
with disney
0:37:04.640,0:37:09.839
and the negotiations were obviously
0:37:07.760,0:37:12.560
unsuccessful
0:37:09.839,0:37:13.359
for disney they’re probably going to go
0:37:12.560,0:37:16.000
on
0:37:13.359,0:37:17.280
a legal technicality of forcing this to
0:37:16.000,0:37:20.240
arbitration which one
0:37:17.280,0:37:21.359
gets it out of the courts two gets it
0:37:20.240,0:37:24.160
out of public
0:37:21.359,0:37:25.920
vision and allows them to settle it
0:37:24.160,0:37:28.480
outside
0:37:25.920,0:37:30.160
now you’ll remember we talked about alan
0:37:28.480,0:37:33.839
dean foster
0:37:30.160,0:37:36.560
a while back about how his
0:37:33.839,0:37:36.960
books right he wrote those before they
0:37:36.560,0:37:39.760
were
0:37:36.960,0:37:41.119
before disney acquired star wars disney
0:37:39.760,0:37:41.920
decided they just weren’t gonna pay him
0:37:41.119,0:37:45.440
royalties
0:37:41.920,0:37:46.079
and he sued them for that then we had an
0:37:45.440,0:37:48.640
article
0:37:46.079,0:37:49.760
not that long ago a few weeks back with
0:37:48.640,0:37:52.240
kevin feige
0:37:49.760,0:37:54.480
having this same exact issue where he
0:37:52.240,0:37:56.640
disagreed with
0:37:54.480,0:37:58.320
disney releasing stuff simultaneously
0:37:56.640,0:38:00.480
because you can almost be guaranteed
0:37:58.320,0:38:03.839
that his compensation is tied to it
0:38:00.480,0:38:05.040
right and you’ll remember back when um
0:38:03.839,0:38:08.720
infinity war
0:38:05.040,0:38:10.960
and um uh
0:38:08.720,0:38:12.880
end game came out we talked about the
0:38:10.960,0:38:15.119
compensation package that
0:38:12.880,0:38:16.320
robert robert jr was getting which is
0:38:15.119,0:38:20.000
tied to his
0:38:16.320,0:38:22.240
ticket sales so this is something that
0:38:20.000,0:38:24.079
disney has engaged in which is
0:38:22.240,0:38:25.359
really kind of unique in the business
0:38:24.079,0:38:27.280
these days
0:38:25.359,0:38:29.839
that they’re paying you based on what
0:38:27.280,0:38:33.119
the overall ticket sales is
0:38:29.839,0:38:35.119
and to have a simultaneous
0:38:33.119,0:38:37.520
release of that because if you look at
0:38:35.119,0:38:40.640
the legal definition of a
0:38:37.520,0:38:42.400
theatrical release right a theatrical
0:38:40.640,0:38:45.839
release is a movie released
0:38:42.400,0:38:49.200
in theaters not in a demo
0:38:45.839,0:38:51.440
setting for paid consumption
0:38:49.200,0:38:52.320
technically disney can say that they had
0:38:51.440,0:38:54.560
that
0:38:52.320,0:38:55.760
because they did it simultaneously with
0:38:54.560,0:38:58.480
a disney plus
0:38:55.760,0:39:00.160
release right usually what happens is
0:38:58.480,0:39:04.240
the distinction is
0:39:00.160,0:39:07.599
when can you have a dvd blu-ray
0:39:04.240,0:39:10.960
vhs release tied to that
0:39:07.599,0:39:13.119
and when that happens there’s a delay
0:39:10.960,0:39:14.000
right the whole concept of disney plus
0:39:13.119,0:39:17.680
didn’t even exist
0:39:14.000,0:39:19.520
when this movie was in production
0:39:17.680,0:39:20.960
right so there was nothing in the clause
0:39:19.520,0:39:23.040
about doing in
0:39:20.960,0:39:24.400
a hybrid release there’s no definition
0:39:23.040,0:39:25.839
there’s no clear-cut definition of what
0:39:24.400,0:39:26.480
a hybrid release even is right because
0:39:25.839,0:39:29.680
there was no
0:39:26.480,0:39:32.240
pandemic that was lingering you know
0:39:29.680,0:39:33.280
at the time from a legal standpoint it’s
0:39:32.240,0:39:35.680
muddy water here
0:39:33.280,0:39:36.640
right between the arbitration what is a
0:39:35.680,0:39:38.880
theatrical release
0:39:36.640,0:39:40.640
what is a hybrid release there’s so much
0:39:38.880,0:39:42.000
precedent that’s going to be set here
0:39:40.640,0:39:44.240
that’s really a huge
0:39:42.000,0:39:46.400
case right but if you look at it from a
0:39:44.240,0:39:47.760
logical standpoint
0:39:46.400,0:39:49.839
and and this is kind of where the
0:39:47.760,0:39:52.079
argument went on twitter
0:39:49.839,0:39:53.680
my point was she’s made a fortune from
0:39:52.079,0:39:56.000
disney so far she’s had a 10-year
0:39:53.680,0:39:58.480
relationship with disney
0:39:56.000,0:40:00.400
now that her character story is done
0:39:58.480,0:40:04.000
right she feels she can burn her bridges
0:40:00.400,0:40:06.640
by suing them to get more out of them
0:40:04.000,0:40:07.920
that’s what i see here more than i see
0:40:06.640,0:40:11.040
anything else
0:40:07.920,0:40:14.800
because had disney abided by
0:40:11.040,0:40:17.119
the the strictest terms of that contract
0:40:14.800,0:40:17.920
and released that movie theatrically
0:40:17.119,0:40:20.560
when it was
0:40:17.920,0:40:21.920
due to be released she would have gotten
0:40:20.560,0:40:23.520
zero dollars for it
0:40:21.920,0:40:25.520
right because there weren’t any theaters
0:40:23.520,0:40:27.040
that were open at the time
0:40:25.520,0:40:29.599
so now you add the extenuating
0:40:27.040,0:40:32.079
circumstances of a pandemic to this too
0:40:29.599,0:40:33.520
the fact that she got anything out of it
0:40:32.079,0:40:34.880
right she should be grateful for
0:40:33.520,0:40:36.839
because there were a lot of people that
0:40:34.880,0:40:38.960
haven’t gotten anything out of
0:40:36.839,0:40:42.000
absolutely
0:40:38.960,0:40:44.480
now we talk about kevin feige kind of
0:40:42.000,0:40:45.760
backing her and i can understand that
0:40:44.480,0:40:47.200
because he still wants to maintain a
0:40:45.760,0:40:48.319
working relationship with her but he
0:40:47.200,0:40:48.960
doesn’t want to rock the boat with
0:40:48.319,0:40:51.200
disney
0:40:48.960,0:40:53.200
right we already know that he’s po’d
0:40:51.200,0:40:56.079
about the whole hyperbolic system too
0:40:53.200,0:40:57.920
right so for him to come out publicly
0:40:56.079,0:41:00.560
and say something i think would be
0:40:57.920,0:41:01.440
very shocking one way or the other if
0:41:00.560,0:41:03.760
anything i think
0:41:01.440,0:41:07.040
publicly he would have to come down on
0:41:03.760,0:41:08.720
the side of disney either contractually
0:41:07.040,0:41:09.839
or just because he knows he’s got a
0:41:08.720,0:41:13.520
future with disney
0:41:09.839,0:41:15.040
right he sold his soul to the house
0:41:13.520,0:41:16.319
to the house of mouse and you don’t want
0:41:15.040,0:41:16.960
to you don’t want to burn those
0:41:16.319,0:41:18.839
absolutely
0:41:16.960,0:41:20.079
she knows her characters yeah her
0:41:18.839,0:41:22.400
character her
0:41:20.079,0:41:24.000
dad literally did yeah her character was
0:41:22.400,0:41:25.839
dead before the movie even
0:41:24.000,0:41:27.280
but the thing is came out she’s got her
0:41:25.839,0:41:29.040
own production company now
0:41:27.280,0:41:30.720
she could have had such a lucrative
0:41:29.040,0:41:32.400
future with disney
0:41:30.720,0:41:33.920
with her production company because i’m
0:41:32.400,0:41:35.119
sure there were tons of other projects
0:41:33.920,0:41:36.800
that would have been happy to work with
0:41:35.119,0:41:38.800
her on
0:41:36.800,0:41:40.880
and now that’s going to be thrown out
0:41:38.800,0:41:43.839
what are you going to get
0:41:40.880,0:41:44.400
100 million maybe out of it where you
0:41:43.839,0:41:46.240
probably
0:41:44.400,0:41:47.520
you probably had hundreds of millions of
0:41:46.240,0:41:48.960
dollars that you could have gotten out
0:41:47.520,0:41:50.800
of it in the long run
0:41:48.960,0:41:52.319
yeah and it’s going to wind up settling
0:41:50.800,0:41:53.359
you’re not going to find out how much it
0:41:52.319,0:41:56.319
is and and
0:41:53.359,0:41:59.040
you know you’re she’s trying to drag
0:41:56.319,0:42:02.560
disney through the mud right now
0:41:59.040,0:42:04.160
in in the court of public opinion right
0:42:02.560,0:42:07.520
so the last thing she wants is to have
0:42:04.160,0:42:07.520
it go to arbitration
0:42:07.599,0:42:10.400
i don’t know there’s if there’s one
0:42:09.040,0:42:12.160
thing that i’ve learned in the past it’s
0:42:10.400,0:42:13.520
don’t burn your bridges
0:42:12.160,0:42:15.440
you know you might get a few bucks out
0:42:13.520,0:42:17.520
of it here but in the long run
0:42:15.440,0:42:19.440
you’re better off keeping keeping good
0:42:17.520,0:42:21.520
terms
0:42:19.440,0:42:22.880
speaking of keeping good terms actually
0:42:21.520,0:42:24.000
it has nothing to do with this next
0:42:22.880,0:42:25.520
story
0:42:24.000,0:42:28.319
it was it was nice that you were trying
0:42:25.520,0:42:31.200
to tie the headphones i was trying
0:42:28.319,0:42:33.119
uh so it seems that jody whittaker is
0:42:31.200,0:42:37.200
going to be leaving doctor who
0:42:33.119,0:42:40.560
along with the showrunner um says bbc
0:42:37.200,0:42:41.920
um so the doctor who star jody whitaker
0:42:40.560,0:42:45.520
and the showrunner
0:42:41.920,0:42:46.640
uh uh chris uh chimnall uh will both be
0:42:45.520,0:42:50.640
leaving the program
0:42:46.640,0:42:52.960
in 2022. uh whitaker was the 13th doctor
0:42:50.640,0:42:54.960
and the first woman to regularly play
0:42:52.960,0:42:56.079
the main character in the long-lived
0:42:54.960,0:42:58.800
series
0:42:56.079,0:42:59.599
uh whitaker actually paid tribute to the
0:42:58.800,0:43:01.680
showrunner
0:42:59.599,0:43:02.960
uh and the doctor who team in a
0:43:01.680,0:43:06.240
statement saying
0:43:02.960,0:43:09.280
in 2017 i opened my glorious
0:43:06.240,0:43:11.760
gift box of size 13 shoes
0:43:09.280,0:43:12.880
i could not have guessed the brilliant
0:43:11.760,0:43:16.000
adventures
0:43:12.880,0:43:18.800
worlds and wonders i was to see in them
0:43:16.000,0:43:20.560
i will carry the doctor and the lessons
0:43:18.800,0:43:24.480
i’ve learned forever
0:43:20.560,0:43:25.680
um and then um sorry chris had said that
0:43:24.480,0:43:28.640
jody and i made
0:43:25.680,0:43:29.040
three series and out packed with each
0:43:28.640,0:43:31.520
other
0:43:29.040,0:43:32.960
and at the start of this once in a
0:43:31.520,0:43:35.040
lifetime blast
0:43:32.960,0:43:37.200
so now our shift is done and we’re
0:43:35.040,0:43:40.079
handing back the tardis keys
0:43:37.200,0:43:40.720
jody’s magnificent iconic doctor has
0:43:40.079,0:43:43.040
exceeded
0:43:40.720,0:43:44.720
all of our expectations she’s been the
0:43:43.040,0:43:46.480
gold standard leading actor
0:43:44.720,0:43:49.119
shouldering the responsibilities of
0:43:46.480,0:43:53.359
being the first female doctor with style
0:43:49.119,0:43:55.680
strength warmth generosity and humor
0:43:53.359,0:43:58.480
in social media posts the bbc says the
0:43:55.680,0:44:01.040
pair leave in a trio of specials
0:43:58.480,0:44:01.680
culminating in an epic blockbuster to
0:44:01.040,0:44:05.839
air
0:44:01.680,0:44:09.520
autumn of 2022 as part of the bbc’s
0:44:05.839,0:44:12.319
centauri celebration
0:44:09.520,0:44:14.640
so whitaker will also be seen in one
0:44:12.319,0:44:15.520
more series later this year before she
0:44:14.640,0:44:19.839
departs
0:44:15.520,0:44:23.599
the 13th series of the show that was
0:44:19.839,0:44:25.359
revitalized by russell t davies in 2005
0:44:23.599,0:44:27.359
is expected to air in the autumn and
0:44:25.359,0:44:28.480
will consist of eight episodes which
0:44:27.359,0:44:31.359
were actually filled
0:44:28.480,0:44:31.839
during covid restrictions uh comedian
0:44:31.359,0:44:34.160
john
0:44:31.839,0:44:35.280
bishop will be joining the regular cast
0:44:34.160,0:44:37.920
as a new character
0:44:35.280,0:44:39.280
dan along with mandip gill who is
0:44:37.920,0:44:42.480
reprising her role
0:44:39.280,0:44:45.040
of yasmin khan whitaker’s casting was
0:44:42.480,0:44:47.280
announced back in 2017 when she was
0:44:45.040,0:44:50.319
chosen to follow peter capaldi
0:44:47.280,0:44:52.880
as the time lord she
0:44:50.319,0:44:53.440
and the showrunner had worked together
0:44:52.880,0:44:56.560
on
0:44:53.440,0:44:58.960
um another show uh broadchurch
0:44:56.560,0:45:01.200
uh the change to a female doctor caused
0:44:58.960,0:45:01.839
a rating surge when whitaker first
0:45:01.200,0:45:05.839
appeared
0:45:01.839,0:45:07.839
but also upset a vocal minority of fans
0:45:05.839,0:45:09.520
who objected to the time traveling
0:45:07.839,0:45:11.920
face-changing alien
0:45:09.520,0:45:13.440
having a different gender uh viewers
0:45:11.920,0:45:16.960
have fallen away during
0:45:13.440,0:45:20.079
the her two series
0:45:16.960,0:45:23.280
uh two seasons so far nevertheless
0:45:20.079,0:45:25.440
in 2021 the new year’s day special
0:45:23.280,0:45:27.200
uh revolution of the daleks which
0:45:25.440,0:45:28.160
featured the return of the popular
0:45:27.200,0:45:31.520
character
0:45:28.160,0:45:33.599
uh captain jack hartness um the bbc
0:45:31.520,0:45:35.359
it was actually the the most watched
0:45:33.599,0:45:37.200
program on that day
0:45:35.359,0:45:38.560
now of course john barrowman has been
0:45:37.200,0:45:41.040
having some
0:45:38.560,0:45:44.960
controversy over his behavior on the set
0:45:41.040,0:45:48.480
of doctor who between 2005 and 2009.
0:45:44.960,0:45:50.560
um the director of drama from bbc had
0:45:48.480,0:45:52.319
stated that over the last four years
0:45:50.560,0:45:54.560
chris and jody have made doctor who
0:45:52.319,0:45:56.079
history and their time on the show is
0:45:54.560,0:45:58.480
inevitably marked
0:45:56.079,0:45:59.280
from our memory on our on our uh
0:45:58.480,0:46:02.000
memories
0:45:59.280,0:46:02.880
from mos rosa parks to the ascension of
0:46:02.000,0:46:05.119
the cybermen
0:46:02.880,0:46:07.040
chris and jody have given doctor who
0:46:05.119,0:46:08.960
some of its most life-affirming and
0:46:07.040,0:46:10.880
tear-jerking moments to date
0:46:08.960,0:46:12.800
and we are beyond excited to see what
0:46:10.880,0:46:14.240
they have in store for us in this new
0:46:12.800,0:46:17.200
series this autumn
0:46:14.240,0:46:17.520
jody’s final adventure to mark the bbc’s
0:46:17.200,0:46:21.520
uh
0:46:17.520,0:46:24.319
centauri uh in 2022 is set to be the
0:46:21.520,0:46:25.839
uh doctor who’s special to remember uh
0:46:24.319,0:46:29.040
i’d like to thank them both for their
0:46:25.839,0:46:31.680
incredible work on the show
0:46:29.040,0:46:32.240
and this isn’t anything that kind of
0:46:31.680,0:46:34.400
comes
0:46:32.240,0:46:35.440
as a surprise to us we knew that you
0:46:34.400,0:46:39.119
were going to be leaving
0:46:35.440,0:46:42.480
after this next series uh it’s a shame
0:46:39.119,0:46:45.920
you know i’m i’m from the old school
0:46:42.480,0:46:48.560
doctor who days of tom baker when he was
0:46:45.920,0:46:49.119
doctor who forever ever yeah right
0:46:48.560,0:46:52.319
really
0:46:49.119,0:46:55.520
right um but
0:46:52.319,0:46:58.079
i think i didn’t
0:46:55.520,0:47:00.480
fall in love with right i was gonna say
0:46:58.079,0:47:04.319
this wasn’t your favorite doctor
0:47:00.480,0:47:04.720
of the new versions i warmed up to her
0:47:04.319,0:47:08.160
the
0:47:04.720,0:47:11.359
fastest i think because in
0:47:08.160,0:47:15.359
creating her own version of doctor who
0:47:11.359,0:47:18.400
she embraced the qualities that were so
0:47:15.359,0:47:19.520
indelible and so many other doctors and
0:47:18.400,0:47:24.319
she was really
0:47:19.520,0:47:27.839
a a a combination of so many doctors
0:47:24.319,0:47:29.520
that you could recognize um so i warmed
0:47:27.839,0:47:30.559
up to her much faster in fact i think
0:47:29.520,0:47:32.240
peter capaldi was
0:47:30.559,0:47:34.240
was the doctor that took me the longest
0:47:32.240,0:47:34.960
to warm up to because he was such a
0:47:34.240,0:47:38.240
change
0:47:34.960,0:47:40.319
right he was a jerk yeah he was such a
0:47:38.240,0:47:43.520
massive change from what right
0:47:40.319,0:47:45.359
from matt smith you know before that and
0:47:43.520,0:47:47.040
yeah but i warmed up to her very face
0:47:45.359,0:47:47.920
and i and i enjoy all the work that
0:47:47.040,0:47:50.079
she’s done
0:47:47.920,0:47:52.880
you know there isn’t there isn’t anyone
0:47:50.079,0:47:56.160
the problem that i had with these series
0:47:52.880,0:47:59.040
was the writing you know you had
0:47:56.160,0:48:01.359
you know we’ve talked about this in the
0:47:59.040,0:48:01.359
past
0:48:01.599,0:48:04.960
everything with doctor who is aliens
0:48:04.079,0:48:07.680
right okay
0:48:04.960,0:48:08.640
so if it’s a vampire if it’s a monster
0:48:07.680,0:48:11.760
if it’s
0:48:08.640,0:48:12.960
whatever it is it’s a means right and
0:48:11.760,0:48:15.200
you had
0:48:12.960,0:48:18.079
too many politically charged statements
0:48:15.200,0:48:21.440
in this last couple of series
0:48:18.079,0:48:23.440
you had environmental things that had
0:48:21.440,0:48:26.000
nothing to do with aliens
0:48:23.440,0:48:26.480
it was just a very different style of
0:48:26.000,0:48:28.240
writing
0:48:26.480,0:48:30.720
and that was really more the first
0:48:28.240,0:48:31.760
season i think the second season they
0:48:30.720,0:48:34.559
kind of
0:48:31.760,0:48:35.680
realized yes it has to be aliens but the
0:48:34.559,0:48:38.559
first one
0:48:35.680,0:48:39.280
they were definitely going places they
0:48:38.559,0:48:42.400
had never
0:48:39.280,0:48:44.640
gone before in the respects
0:48:42.400,0:48:45.599
of right who they were fighting it was
0:48:44.640,0:48:48.240
it was not
0:48:45.599,0:48:49.520
it was not something that i really took
0:48:48.240,0:48:52.319
took to
0:48:49.520,0:48:52.800
uh but she was a shining shining point
0:48:52.319,0:48:55.839
in the
0:48:52.800,0:48:57.520
in the entire thing what i do like is is
0:48:55.839,0:48:59.599
the speculation of who might be
0:48:57.520,0:49:02.240
the replacement coming in which is
0:48:59.599,0:49:05.760
another gonna be another revolutionary
0:49:02.240,0:49:08.319
type of thing with joe martin who played
0:49:05.760,0:49:09.440
the fugitive doctor who was the first
0:49:08.319,0:49:12.160
black female
0:49:09.440,0:49:13.200
person to portray the doctor so there’s
0:49:12.160,0:49:16.240
speculation she
0:49:13.200,0:49:17.839
might be the doctor that comes in after
0:49:16.240,0:49:19.839
her which i think would be a great way
0:49:17.839,0:49:22.960
of continuing that tradition of
0:49:19.839,0:49:24.400
changing things up right right um so
0:49:22.960,0:49:26.400
hopefully you know we’ll we’ll see where
0:49:24.400,0:49:27.280
it goes i just hope the series continues
0:49:26.400,0:49:30.240
i don’t want to see it
0:49:27.280,0:49:31.440
on hiatus again right and have this long
0:49:30.240,0:49:32.319
period of time where we don’t have
0:49:31.440,0:49:35.440
doctor who
0:49:32.319,0:49:37.520
right that was that was pretty painful
0:49:35.440,0:49:39.040
so that was all we had for our
0:49:37.520,0:49:41.119
entertainment news
0:49:39.040,0:49:45.070
we’ll be back with our insightful picks
0:49:41.119,0:49:47.359
of the week
0:49:45.070,0:49:50.000
[Applause]
0:49:47.359,0:49:50.960
go for your insightful pick so my
0:49:50.000,0:49:54.400
insightful pick
0:49:50.960,0:49:55.440
of the week is lupin uh which is on
0:49:54.400,0:49:59.200
netflix
0:49:55.440,0:50:02.640
and it is inspired by the adventures of
0:49:59.200,0:50:05.839
uh arsene lupin the gentleman fee
0:50:02.640,0:50:09.200
the gentleman thief um
0:50:05.839,0:50:12.160
so uh the the main character uh
0:50:09.200,0:50:14.720
asan sets out to avenge his father for
0:50:12.160,0:50:15.599
the injustice inflicted by a wealthy
0:50:14.720,0:50:18.240
family
0:50:15.599,0:50:20.160
uh lupin is a french mystery thriller
0:50:18.240,0:50:23.359
that is uh streaming
0:50:20.160,0:50:26.880
um on netflix it actually came out in
0:50:23.359,0:50:29.119
january of 2021 uh with the first
0:50:26.880,0:50:30.000
part of the series which was five
0:50:29.119,0:50:32.160
episodes
0:50:30.000,0:50:33.520
and then the last five episodes came out
0:50:32.160,0:50:35.920
this past june
0:50:33.520,0:50:37.280
uh and netflix has actually renewed it
0:50:35.920,0:50:39.119
for a third part which i
0:50:37.280,0:50:40.800
thought was kind of interesting because
0:50:39.119,0:50:44.240
it kind of
0:50:40.800,0:50:45.200
wrapped up um in in the second part of
0:50:44.240,0:50:48.480
the show
0:50:45.200,0:50:48.720
um the show stars omar sai in the role
0:50:48.480,0:50:52.160
of
0:50:48.720,0:50:54.000
asen who is a man who is inspired by the
0:50:52.160,0:50:56.960
adventures of the master
0:50:54.000,0:50:58.160
thief lupin who is a character that was
0:50:56.960,0:51:01.839
created by
0:50:58.160,0:51:04.240
uh maurice leblanc in the early 1900s
0:51:01.839,0:51:05.280
so the first part uh consisting of five
0:51:04.240,0:51:09.119
episodes
0:51:05.280,0:51:09.839
um of the show kind of gives you a
0:51:09.119,0:51:12.559
background
0:51:09.839,0:51:14.000
of the character and his inspiration um
0:51:12.559,0:51:15.200
and then the second part kind of
0:51:14.000,0:51:18.240
concludes
0:51:15.200,0:51:20.400
the story and um and all that he
0:51:18.240,0:51:22.000
he’s going through uh the series was
0:51:20.400,0:51:24.160
actually watched by seven
0:51:22.000,0:51:25.839
million households during its first
0:51:24.160,0:51:30.079
months becoming the most
0:51:25.839,0:51:31.359
watched non-english series on netflix
0:51:30.079,0:51:32.960
it was interesting because when i
0:51:31.359,0:51:34.480
started watching it i’m like wait a
0:51:32.960,0:51:37.040
second i think this is
0:51:34.480,0:51:38.400
overdubbed so there’s no subtitles it’s
0:51:37.040,0:51:41.359
all over dubbed
0:51:38.400,0:51:42.319
done very well um but it’s interesting
0:51:41.359,0:51:45.040
because it’s
0:51:42.319,0:51:45.359
you already know who the bad guy is but
0:51:45.040,0:51:48.800
it’s
0:51:45.359,0:51:51.440
all the little ins and outs of
0:51:48.800,0:51:51.920
this main character and how he tricks
0:51:51.440,0:51:54.079
people
0:51:51.920,0:51:56.559
to to get what he wants and it’s you
0:51:54.079,0:51:57.760
know in some cases it’s very doctor who
0:51:56.559,0:51:59.839
like i’m gonna show you my
0:51:57.760,0:52:01.680
id but i’m gonna show it to you so fast
0:51:59.839,0:52:03.920
that you don’t even
0:52:01.680,0:52:04.960
know what it is and i’m so charismatic
0:52:03.920,0:52:06.960
that
0:52:04.960,0:52:08.880
you’re gonna let me in and you know all
0:52:06.960,0:52:12.240
the disguises that he has and
0:52:08.880,0:52:12.960
and and everything um so really kind of
0:52:12.240,0:52:15.920
interesting
0:52:12.960,0:52:17.440
and and a couple of little twists here
0:52:15.920,0:52:19.599
and there to kind of keep you
0:52:17.440,0:52:21.040
uh you know interested and like i said
0:52:19.599,0:52:22.640
when i finished watching it i kind of
0:52:21.040,0:52:24.880
figured all right that’s it we’re done
0:52:22.640,0:52:26.800
we you know the bad guy goes to jail
0:52:24.880,0:52:28.240
but interesting to see what the the
0:52:26.800,0:52:31.040
third part will actually
0:52:28.240,0:52:32.559
uh have so it’s not in french no it’s
0:52:31.040,0:52:35.150
not in french oh okay
0:52:32.559,0:52:38.960
good pick thank you
0:52:35.150,0:52:40.400
[Applause]
0:52:38.960,0:52:42.000
so you know what else is a good pick
0:52:40.400,0:52:44.400
that you had that i stole from you
0:52:42.000,0:52:45.520
yes and at least you admit that you
0:52:44.400,0:52:47.839
stole it from me
0:52:45.520,0:52:49.359
i do and i freely admit thank you
0:52:47.839,0:52:52.240
fantastic pick
0:52:49.359,0:52:54.800
and that is surreal estate no it’s not a
0:52:52.240,0:52:57.839
story about a night selling castles
0:52:54.800,0:53:00.960
it’s surreal estate
0:52:57.839,0:53:01.920
um yeah right okay so that joke didn’t
0:53:00.960,0:53:03.839
go over so well
0:53:01.920,0:53:05.920
i thought it was funny real estate agent
0:53:03.839,0:53:08.880
luke roman is the owner of the roman
0:53:05.920,0:53:10.960
agency a boutique residential real
0:53:08.880,0:53:14.720
estate brokerage specializing in
0:53:10.960,0:53:17.839
quote metaphysically engaged properties
0:53:14.720,0:53:19.680
also known as honest houses
0:53:17.839,0:53:21.280
luke has a special connection to the
0:53:19.680,0:53:24.319
spiritual realm
0:53:21.280,0:53:26.559
he can not only sense the presence that
0:53:24.319,0:53:28.720
might inhabit a client’s house
0:53:26.559,0:53:30.160
he can often communicate and negotiate
0:53:28.720,0:53:31.359
with it which i guess is great if
0:53:30.160,0:53:34.240
they’re the ones that own the house
0:53:31.359,0:53:34.960
yeah along with his team luke takes on
0:53:34.240,0:53:38.720
houses
0:53:34.960,0:53:41.119
nobody else can or will sell
0:53:38.720,0:53:42.079
so the show is a refreshing take on the
0:53:41.119,0:53:45.520
supernatural
0:53:42.079,0:53:45.839
in a fictional setting often relegated
0:53:45.520,0:53:48.160
to
0:53:45.839,0:53:49.040
police dramas or murder mystery style
0:53:48.160,0:53:51.200
shows
0:53:49.040,0:53:53.119
the supernatural realm was getting a bit
0:53:51.200,0:53:54.240
stale with the exception of maybe the
0:53:53.119,0:53:56.240
mockumentary show
0:53:54.240,0:53:58.240
previously talked about on this podcast
0:53:56.240,0:54:00.079
what we do in the shadows
0:53:58.240,0:54:02.559
surreal estate is a mix of mystery
0:54:00.079,0:54:03.280
comedy and a dash of supernatural
0:54:02.559,0:54:06.000
reality
0:54:03.280,0:54:06.800
like ghost hunters the team of
0:54:06.000,0:54:09.760
paranormal
0:54:06.800,0:54:12.400
experts helped to investigate events in
0:54:09.760,0:54:14.559
metaphysically engaged houses
0:54:12.400,0:54:17.359
and help determine the causes and
0:54:14.559,0:54:20.720
ultimately the solutions to those issues
0:54:17.359,0:54:22.480
so weary owners can sell them it sounds
0:54:20.720,0:54:25.839
like a new reality show
0:54:22.480,0:54:28.480
right but this is the scripted drama
0:54:25.839,0:54:30.319
and one that’s very well done the
0:54:28.480,0:54:31.599
characters have a depth and complexity
0:54:30.319,0:54:33.040
right off the bat that you don’t
0:54:31.599,0:54:35.920
normally see in shows
0:54:33.040,0:54:37.680
today there’s a chemistry with a cast
0:54:35.920,0:54:38.000
that makes the entire show work and
0:54:37.680,0:54:40.000
there’s
0:54:38.000,0:54:41.040
enough plot in each show to make them
0:54:40.000,0:54:42.799
unique
0:54:41.040,0:54:44.960
while the overarching story of the
0:54:42.799,0:54:47.760
season is advancing consistently
0:54:44.960,0:54:50.319
in each show you don’t feel there’s a
0:54:47.760,0:54:52.799
minute of time in any episode wasted to
0:54:50.319,0:54:55.359
pointless storytelling which is a
0:54:52.799,0:54:57.520
testament to the show’s writers
0:54:55.359,0:55:00.079
i’ve enjoyed each episode so far and i’m
0:54:57.520,0:55:03.440
excited to see where the series goes
0:55:00.079,0:55:05.119
we’re what three episodes in three
0:55:03.440,0:55:07.040
yeah i think so three we watched the
0:55:05.119,0:55:10.079
third one the other night
0:55:07.040,0:55:13.119
so real estate streaming on sci-fi
0:55:10.079,0:55:13.119
and we’ll be right back
0:55:14.430,0:55:16.880
[Applause]
0:55:15.660,0:55:20.240
[Music]
0:55:16.880,0:55:23.200
so what do we have for our
0:55:20.240,0:55:23.680
afterthoughts today uh so i guess in
0:55:23.200,0:55:26.640
next
0:55:23.680,0:55:28.000
weekend i believe would be monster mania
0:55:26.640,0:55:31.119
in cherry hill
0:55:28.000,0:55:34.160
uh that’s monster mania 46. uh
0:55:31.119,0:55:35.359
monster mania 47 will be september the
0:55:34.160,0:55:38.160
end of september
0:55:35.359,0:55:39.440
in hunt valley maryland and then the end
0:55:38.160,0:55:42.640
of october
0:55:39.440,0:55:44.079
in oaks pennsylvania all three of the
0:55:42.640,0:55:47.200
monster manias
0:55:44.079,0:55:49.839
uh then of course we have the free
0:55:47.200,0:55:52.319
toy show carnival of collectibles that’s
0:55:49.839,0:55:55.359
in september that’s a small
0:55:52.319,0:55:57.440
um toy show not not very big
0:55:55.359,0:55:59.520
they usually just have like one kind of
0:55:57.440,0:56:01.839
small room dedicated to it
0:55:59.520,0:56:02.720
but if you’ve never been to carnival of
0:56:01.839,0:56:05.680
collectibles
0:56:02.720,0:56:07.359
that’s kind of an interesting place to
0:56:05.680,0:56:07.920
go to as well there’s all these
0:56:07.359,0:56:10.640
different
0:56:07.920,0:56:11.200
vendors selling stuff it’s i wouldn’t
0:56:10.640,0:56:14.480
even know
0:56:11.200,0:56:14.799
flea market without people there right
0:56:14.480,0:56:17.760
so
0:56:14.799,0:56:18.160
they have like little rooms you know
0:56:17.760,0:56:20.640
it’s an
0:56:18.160,0:56:22.079
open yeah like basically a booth and
0:56:20.640,0:56:24.160
people just have their stuff and if
0:56:22.079,0:56:26.480
you’re interested in buying it you just
0:56:24.160,0:56:27.920
take it and you go up front and it has a
0:56:26.480,0:56:30.480
label on it and
0:56:27.920,0:56:32.559
i’m sure there’s some name that they
0:56:30.480,0:56:35.040
call that i just can’t think of
0:56:32.559,0:56:36.559
what it is but while they have all of
0:56:35.040,0:56:39.200
that normal stuff
0:56:36.559,0:56:40.559
they have a little toy show wow that
0:56:39.200,0:56:43.440
stuff’s not so normal too
0:56:40.559,0:56:44.079
well yeah yeah some of it’s not normal
0:56:43.440,0:56:46.799
either
0:56:44.079,0:56:48.720
um then of course one of our uh favorite
0:56:46.799,0:56:52.319
locations in delaware
0:56:48.720,0:56:55.359
uh at the nurse shrine center uh they do
0:56:52.319,0:56:56.640
a weekend where uh the saturday is the
0:56:55.359,0:57:00.319
delaware toy
0:56:56.640,0:57:03.119
uh the train show and then sunday
0:57:00.319,0:57:03.920
is the oktoberfest toy show and that is
0:57:03.119,0:57:07.280
october
0:57:03.920,0:57:08.240
9th and 10th and that’s in uh delaware
0:57:07.280,0:57:11.040
as i said
0:57:08.240,0:57:11.040
and then of course
0:57:16.080,0:57:23.440
[Laughter]
0:57:20.640,0:57:26.640
so retro con is returning this year and
0:57:23.440,0:57:28.240
that will be september 25th and 26th
0:57:26.640,0:57:31.440
and that will be at the greater
0:57:28.240,0:57:33.599
affiliate philadelphia expo center in
0:57:31.440,0:57:35.440
oaks why is it greater because they said
0:57:33.599,0:57:38.480
so
0:57:35.440,0:57:41.119
say i’m good like that um
0:57:38.480,0:57:41.680
then uh you know probably the next
0:57:41.119,0:57:45.040
weekend
0:57:41.680,0:57:46.319
after is brick fest um which is october
0:57:45.040,0:57:49.040
second and third
0:57:46.319,0:57:51.040
if you’re a fan of legos as we’ve
0:57:49.040,0:57:51.680
mentioned before this is kind of a cool
0:57:51.040,0:57:54.240
one
0:57:51.680,0:57:55.040
uh you don’t have to necessarily have
0:57:54.240,0:57:57.920
kids
0:57:55.040,0:57:58.640
uh to to enjoy legos obviously these
0:57:57.920,0:58:01.200
days
0:57:58.640,0:58:03.359
so really kind of cool to see you know
0:58:01.200,0:58:06.720
the smallest displays to
0:58:03.359,0:58:09.040
you know some very massive ones there um
0:58:06.720,0:58:10.400
and that is it that we’re gonna talk
0:58:09.040,0:58:13.920
about this week
0:58:10.400,0:58:15.280
uh before we do move on i would
0:58:13.920,0:58:16.960
you know let me just say that a lot of
0:58:15.280,0:58:18.319
these are local to us
0:58:16.960,0:58:20.559
it’s because these are the ones that we
0:58:18.319,0:58:24.079
go to if there are
0:58:20.559,0:58:26.480
other shows toy shows pop culture shows
0:58:24.079,0:58:27.680
anything like that that people from
0:58:26.480,0:58:29.119
around the country because we have
0:58:27.680,0:58:30.160
listeners from around the country around
0:58:29.119,0:58:32.720
the world listening
0:58:30.160,0:58:34.480
and watching the show if you have things
0:58:32.720,0:58:37.599
that are coming up that you think
0:58:34.480,0:58:39.440
our audience would benefit from email us
0:58:37.599,0:58:41.040
send it over to us let us know we’ll get
0:58:39.440,0:58:42.720
it into the show as well so that we’re
0:58:41.040,0:58:45.920
not just covering stuff
0:58:42.720,0:58:47.760
that we go to unless everybody wants to
0:58:45.920,0:58:49.920
travel to the tri-state area
0:58:47.760,0:58:51.119
in new jersey here which you’re welcome
0:58:49.920,0:58:52.880
which is fine
0:58:51.119,0:58:54.799
although during a pandemic i wouldn’t
0:58:52.880,0:58:56.480
really encourage that too much
0:58:54.799,0:58:58.640
but yeah send it over to us we’ll be
0:58:56.480,0:58:59.839
happy to look it up we’ll put it up on
0:58:58.640,0:59:01.440
the
0:58:59.839,0:59:03.200
podcast we’ll get the links out there
0:59:01.440,0:59:04.640
and we’ll start promoting other people’s
0:59:03.200,0:59:06.400
things as well not just the stuff that
0:59:04.640,0:59:09.760
we go to
0:59:06.400,0:59:10.720
so i think that was all we had this week
0:59:09.760,0:59:13.359
right
0:59:10.720,0:59:14.559
uh before we go i do need to bug the
