• Masks and Social Distancing Dropped at Disney World, so what’s the new normal?

  • Walt Disney World theme parks feel a lot more normal today, as new mask guidelines mean that guests no longer need to wear face coverings anywhere inside the Disney theme parks.
    • As the parks reopened from the COVID-19 shutdown, Disney has been slow and cautious, choosing to use a phased approach to reopening, and this latest milestone is no different.
    • So what has changed, and what do you need to know ahead of your visit in the coming days and weeks?
  • There is no question that the crowds are back at Disney’s theme parks. 
    • The end of mask requirements gives those guests who were holding back a reason to return to an experience that is far more normal than it was last year.
    • Most guests are choosing not to wear masks either indoors or outdoors. 
    • Masks are however still present on some guests, and on all Cast Members. 
    • Shields are now optional for Cast Members, and there are a lot less of those on show.
  • Nearly all physical distancing markers on the ground have been removed, and physical distancing is really no more.
    • Signs are still in place advising guests to maintain spacing, but there is nothing in place to enforce any kind of distancing. 
    • In fact, it is interesting to see that guests appear to have already reverted back to pre-COVID days, and are happy to be shoulder to shoulder in tight groups.
  • On the busses, Disney has removed all of the plexiglass dividers, and is loading more guests onto each bus. 
    • Masks are still required, but the boost in capacity should greatly help to improve the bogged down transportation system.
    • Like the busses, the Disney World monorails are also now clear of plexiglass dividers. 
    • Guests are still loaded to a specific row by a Cast Members, and capacity appears to be around 16 guests per cabin. 
    • Small parties may be seated with other parties on the same bench. 
    • Masks are still required.
  • The watercraft have all social distancing removed, and as of today are not enforcing mask use when onboard.
    • Capacity has been increased slowly over the last few months and weeks, but today we are seeing some rides operate at, or very close to maximum capacity.
    • The Jungle Cruise is now loading in a mostly pre-COVID manner, filling every available space, including the center bench.
    • All plexiglass has been removed, with the exception of the barrier between the guest area and the Cast Member skipper.
  • Other attractions still have plexiglass dividers in the queue area, typically those that were semi-permanently installed.
    • Dividers are still in place at Peter Pan’s Flight, it’s a small world, and Haunted Mansion.
    • While we are seeing pre-shows return, including yesterday at Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, there are still some exceptions. 
    • At the Haunted Mansion, guests are still bypassing the stretch room scene.
  • Mobile Order is still required for quick service, but once inside, more tables are open, with dining rooms being at or near 100% capacity.
    • Table Service dining, where open, is operating mostly as normal. 
    • Modified menus are still in place, and availability is limited with not all locations yet open.
  • The changes are ongoing and will continue on a daily basis in the weeks ahead. 
    • Expect to see more of the plexiglass removed from queues, more rides operating at full capacity, the return of more missing pre-shows, and perhaps as soon as July, the return of much more entertainment, including fireworks.

  • What could be more perfect this year than a summertime visit to a Disney theme park? 
    • As we continue to see more communities adjust and ease COVID-19 guidelines, there’s a new sense of optimism with many positive signs moving forward. 
    • We’re encouraged by it too, seeing more families making travel plans, friends dining out together more often and more Americans returning to work. 
    • And at Disney theme parks, we’re gradually bringing back more of our beloved park experiences.
  • A Disney tradition since 1957, fireworks shows are what Walt Disney called the perfect “kiss goodnight” at the close of a magical day, and this summer the skies above Disney theme parks will sparkle with color once more. 
    • Beginning in July, just in time for the nation’s Independence Day celebrations, our incredibly popular nighttime fireworks spectaculars are returning to Disney parks!
    • At Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, July 1 marks the start of nightly fireworks performances at Magic Kingdom Park and EPCOT. 
    • “Happily Ever After” Presented by Pandora Jewelry will transform Cinderella Castle with lights, projections and pyrotechnics, as moments from favorite Disney stories encourage you to grab hold of your dreams and make them come true. 
    • And as part of the ongoing transformation of EPCOT, “EPCOT Forever” will produce a spectacle of fireworks, music and lighting effects over World Showcase Lagoon
    • The show highlights the themes of innovation, exploration, imagination and celebration at the core of the park’s past, present and future.
  • As Disneyland park in California welcomes back all guests, the fun starts July 4 with “Mickey’s Mix Magic” presented nightly throughout the summer. 
    • State-of-the-art projections, show lighting and lasers will transform Main Street, U.S.A., Sleeping Beauty Castle and the façade of “it’s a small world” into a dazzling, family fun dance party that goes sky high with fireworks to celebrate the leader of the club, Mickey Mouse.

  • As the brains that power Disney’s ever-hungry maw work to create new attractions designed to delight, astonish, and mine dollars from the wallets of its theme park visitors, a cool pair of parents have decided to bypass the parks entirely by creating a homemade version of Star Tours in their garage for their kid’s birthday party.
    • A video uploaded to the parent’s YouTube account, left properly anonymous and titled, simply, “Disneyland At Home For Indy’s Birthday,” shows the ride in action. 
    • Modelled on “the original 1987 version of Star Tours,” the garage attraction features a big, handmade space shuttle surrounded by those distinctive Star Wars crates, a droid, and a guy (maybe the dad) in a Han Solo costume. 
    • After taking a properly immersive flight inside the ship, which is rigged up to include a TV and moves around by being jostled from the outside, the kids emerge to meet Leia and run away from Darth Vader by escaping into the light of day.
  • The description says that the daughter “requested a Disneyland themed party at our house for her birthday in April” all the way back in fall, 2019. 
    • After already building “a couple of attractions,” the party had to be cancelled because of the pandemic and rescheduled to be held a year later. 
    • The extra time, judging from the youtube video, seems to have been well spent. 
    • (No word yet, however, on whether these parents also built a tiny Matterhorn Bobsleds coaster in their backyard.)
  • “We do not make ANY MONEY in any way from these videos,” the description continues. 
    • “This party was something fun for our kids and their friends and families to experience, and these subsequent videos were created for those kids and anyone else who might enjoy them. 
    • We hope that these videos are viewed by copyright owners as a love letter to Disneyland …”
    • We hope this plea is enough to satiate the Mouse’s lawyers. 
    • Perhaps they’ll see the smiles on the childrens’ faces in the video and decide to retire to their caverns for now. 
  • Or, who knows, maybe they can just buy it from him and incorporate it into a new theme park extension: Disneyland Garage.
    
• Gina Carano Seemingly Teases Star Wars Return With New Photo

  • Gina Carano‘s Star Wars career came to a sudden end earlier this year when she was fired from The Mandalorian, and any spinoffs she may have appeared in, after all the social media controversy surrounding her got too much to handle. 
    • Carano’s loyal fans haven’t given up hope that Disney could reverse their decision, however, and some rumors have claimed that the actress has had chats with the studio about burying the hatchet.
    • Whether that’s true or not we don’t know, but Carano has definitely reignited the talk of a potential return as Cara Dune with her latest Twitter post. 
  • The former MMA star shared an intriguing image that has a clear Star Wars vibe to it. 
    • The photo depicts a shrouded figure – possibly Carano herself – standing on a very Tatooine-like landscape watching not a binary but a trinary sunset. 
    • Further adding to the intrigue, the actress shared the pic without a comment
  • It’s a fact that Carano recently made a surprise comeback to Disney Plus, as her episode of Running Wild with Bear Grylls season 6 ended up airing despite the studio initially trying to bury it. 
    • That minor decision reversal is a long way from actually inviting the star back to The Mandalorian, though. 
    • Disney had some pretty strong words about Carano’s politically charged social media posts at the time of her firing, calling them “unacceptable and abhorrent.” 
    • Meanwhile, Gina has hit back at them, too, accusing the studio of bullying her and other actors she knows.
  • It’s possible, then, that this image is a teaser for a Star Wars-esque project that Carano is developing independently, which is actually something that’s been reported before. 
    • That would be one way of allowing herself the opportunity to play in the sci-fi sandbox now that her run as Cara Dune has been cut short.
  • On the other hand, there’s plenty of time for things to change on the Gina Carano/Disney front. 
    • After all, The Mandalorian season 3 has been held up and could take years to arrive.

• Foo Fighters held a show for vaccinated fans only. Anti-vaxxers including former child star Ricky Schroder protested outside.

  • Anti-vaccine protesters demonstrated on Tuesday outside a Foo Fighters concert in California that allowed only vaccinated fans, Variety reported.
    • On Saturday, the rock band announced an intimate show at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills ahead of a larger performance with similar requirements at Madison Square Garden in New York City on June 20.
    • Attendees had to show proof that they were 21 or over and vaccinated in order to pick up their nontransferable tickets at the club on Sunday, Rolling Stone reported.
  • Variety reported that the protesters appeared to be joined by Ricky Schroder, a former child star.
    • “Dave Grohl is an ignorant punk who needs slapped for supporting Discrimination,” Schroder wrote in a Facebook post on Sunday, referring to the Foo Fighters front man. 
    • “Ignorance comes in all shapes & sizes. Kurt Cobain is laughing at you Dave along with Millions of Patriots….Fool.”
  • Schroder and Foo Fighters’ record label did not immediately respond to Insider’s requests for comment.
    
• Diana Ross Says ‘Thank You’ to Fans With First Album in 15 Years

  • We’re getting the first Diana Ross album in almost two decades, and we’re incredibly thankful.
    • On Thursday, the former Supreme announced that her upcoming album, Thank You, is set to debut this fall. 
    • In a press release, Ross promised “a powerful, inclusive musical message of love and togetherness” that “wholeheartedly acknowledges that we are in this all together.” 
    • “This collection of songs is my gift to you with appreciation and love,” the singer said. 
    • “I am eternally grateful that I had the opportunity to record this glorious music at this time. 
    • I dedicate this songbook of love to all of you, the listeners. 
    • As you hear my voice you hear my heart.”
  • The album will be Ross’s first album in 22 years with entirely original music, as well as her first album of any kind since 2006. 
    • The singer shared that she recorded the album during quarantine in her home studio, with help from award-winning songwriters and producers such as Tayla Parx, Jack Antonoff, Troy Miller, Triangle Park, Spike Stent and Nathanial Ledgewick. 
    • The title track and first single from the album dropped on June 17, along with the album announcement. 
    • Thank You, the album, will be available to stream in September.

  • Bored with being the Lord of Hell, the devil relocates to Los Angeles, where he opens a nightclub and forms a connection with a homicide detective.
  • Lucifer is an American urban fantasy superhero television series developed by Tom Kapinos that premiered on Fox on January 25, 2016.[3][4] It is based on the DC Comics character created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg taken from the comic book series The Sandman, who later became the protagonist of a spin-off comic book series, both published by DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint. The series is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Television, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television.
  • The series revolves around the story of Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis), the Devil, who abandons Hell for Los Angeles where he runs his own nightclub named Lux and becomes a consultant to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). The ensemble and supporting cast include Lauren German as Detective Chloe Decker, Kevin Alejandro as Detective Daniel “Dan” Espinoza, D. B. Woodside as Amenadiel, Lesley-Ann Brandt as Mazikeen, Rachael Harris as Dr. Linda Martin, and (beginning in season 2) Aimee Garcia as Ella Lopez. Filming took place primarily in Vancouver, British Columbia, before production was relocated entirely to Los Angeles, California, beginning with the third season.
  • The first season received mixed reviews from critics, though subsequent seasons were better rated; many critics particularly praised Ellis’ performance. Despite initially high viewership for its debut, ratings remained consistently low throughout the series’ three-season run on Fox. Fox cancelled Lucifer after three seasons; a month later, Netflix picked up the series for the fourth season, which received high ratings and critical acclaim. Netflix renewed the series for a fifth season of 16 episodes; the first half was released on August 21, 2020, and the second half on May 28, 2021. Although the fifth season was initially reported to be the last, in June 2020 the series was renewed for a sixth and final season of ten episodes.

  • Set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Loki streaming series shares continuity with the films of the franchise and takes place after the events of the film Avengers: Endgame in which an alternate version of Loki created a new timeline. 
  • Tom Hiddleston reprises his role as Loki from the film series. 
    • Loki premiered on June 9, 2021, and will consist of six episodes. 
    • It is part of Phase Four of the MCU. 
    • A second season is in development.
  • After stealing the Tesseract during the events of Avengers: Endgame, an alternate version of Loki is brought to the mysterious Time Variance Authority (TVA)
    • The TVA is a bureaucratic organization that exists outside of time and space and monitors the timeline. 
    • They give Loki a choice: face being erased from existence due to being a “time variant”, or help fix the timeline and stop a greater threat. 
    • Loki ends up trapped in his own crime thriller, traveling through time and altering human history
  • So far we’ve only watched Episode 1, however I can say that it’s the first MCU series on Disney Plus where I like the show after the first Episode
    • It took four episodes of WandaVision before the show had any appeal and two before I really warmed up to Falcon and The Winter Soldier
    • So from my perspective that’s a promising start to the show
    • I’m sure some of that appeal has to be credited to Hiddleston’s portrayal, I’ve always love the character in his hands
    • Much to my surprise part of the appeal is actually Owen Wilson’s performance as well
      • I’ve never been a big fan of Wilson’s. 
      • He seems one step above Nicolas Cage when it comes to one dimensional portrayals.
      • I often struggle to see Wilson as anything more than a clueless pot smoking surfer guy whos injected into situations for comedic relief
      • But in Loki he is demonstrating a depth of character that utterly shocks me
      • He comes across as a grizzled veteran detective one might find in a classic noir Mickey Spillane novel but with a worldly knowledge that makes the offhand observations seem prophetic.
    • The shows appeal might be the retro tech look that gives it a Fallout Vegas feel that I can wrap myself in like a comfortable blanket
    • In reality I’m sure it’s a combination of all of those things and the classic MCU quickly comedy/drama/action vibe we’ve all come to love
