- [SEGMENT 1: Disney Detective] (8-12 minutes)
- No Fast Passes or parades, but when Disneyland reopens, it will be a better experience for guests
- https://www.sfgate.com/disneyland/article/No-Fast-Passes-or-parades-but-when-Disneyland-16039549.php
- https://bit.ly/3lOlTlf
- When Disneyland reopens on April 30, the park will welcome guests with an experience substantially different from the one it offered before the pandemic. There will be fewer attractions to enjoy, like parades and fireworks, and none of the perks like Fast Passes or Magical Mornings. If the California Attractions and Parks Association has their way, there won’t even be screaming on roller coasters.
- But despite all that — or really, because of it — the reopened Disneyland will offer an experience unlike any it has ever offered before. Per California’s guidance for the red tier, the parks will be opening at 15 percent capacity, and only California residents will be allowed to visit. Smaller crowds will offer better ride experiences, and limited capacities in stores will give people space to shop without crowds. For many, the trade-offs of mask wearing and being stationary while eating or drinking will be worth it for the experience of being in the park with so few people. While Disney does not release attendance numbers, DisneyNews.us estimates that Disneyland had about 51,000 visitors per day across parks in 2019. At 15 percent capacity, the parks will open with a cap of just under 20,000 total people daily.
- “The joy and laughter and magical moments of the Disneyland Resort will soon return to its theme parks as Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park are planning to officially reopen to the public on April 30, 2021, with limited capacity,” Disney said in a release shared with SFGATE on March 17.
- The small number of guests who are able to buy tickets within that 15 percent capacity will have to make reservations for Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure for the day they want to attend. Those guests won’t be able to utilize Fast Passes, the system that allowed a limited number of people into a shorter queue for certain rides, both because ride capacity has to be strictly managed and because the park needs that line space for social distancing of the regular queue. On those rides, there will be distancing between parties, and depending on configuration, some rides will have plastic barriers installed between rows.
- But with such a substantially lowered capacity in the park, the lines will almost definitely be the shortest parkgoers have ever seen. I was at Walt Disney World for Magic Kingdom’s opening day last July, which opened to 25 percent capacity but has a larger footprint and more rides than Disneyland Park. Even with no Fast Passes, the lines were the shortest I’ve ever seen.
- Space Mountain’s wait time was zero minutes. Zero. “Relish that time frame,” the greeter said as I walked onto the ride. “You’ll never see it again.”
- Disneyland Park can hold an estimated 50,000 people, but Magic Kingdom in Orlando is estimated to hold nearly double that. The company does not release those figures, but theme park experts put Disney California Adventure at about 80,000 capacity.
- Rather than parades, Magic Kingdom has been holding “character cavalcades,” where one or two parade floats will transport characters through the park at unannounced times. Disneyland has not confirmed whether that will happen, but has said, “Beloved characters will pop up in new ways and sometimes in unexpected places as they remain mindful of physical distancing.”
- There is speculation that by the time Disneyland opens, Orange County could be in the orange tier, which allows for 25 percent capacity at theme parks and 50 percent capacity for indoor dining. But it seems unlikely that Disneyland will allow that many people in during the very early opening, simply for the sake of working out the kinks in the system with fewer people there.
- An area where those kinks will likely present themselves: with food. Disney is placing an increased emphasis on mobile ordering and contactless payment through the Disneyland smartphone app. At opening day of A Touch of Disney, March 18, pickup times for mobile orders were 60-90 minutes away from order times. As people learn new procedures for how to order food, there are likely to be long lines as Cast Members field questions from guests.
- Disneyland has not clarified whether indoor dining will be available at all, but has confirmed that restaurants with outdoor seating like The Plaza Inn and River Belle Terrace will be open.
- Shows like Frozen Live at the Hyperion and Mickey and the Magical Map are likely gone forever, not just on pause. Indoor rides will definitely be open, though, and some of them will be new.
- Snow White’s Enchanted Wish, a reimagining of what was formerly Snow White’s Scary Adventures in Fantasyland, will debut when the park reopens. “The timeless tale comes alive in dazzling new scenes,” Disneyland’s release said, including a dancing figure of Snow White joining the dwarfs in their cottage as the scent of a baking pie wafts through the air.
- Disneyland has also announced “new magic” for Haunted Mansion, which was under refurbishment last March when the park closed, though what that new magic will be is unclear.
- In Disney California Adventure, the new Avengers Campus is nearly complete, but will not open when DCA opens on April 30. This week, The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure had scaffolding on the outside of the building.
- Disneyland has not yet announced when tickets for its reopening will be on sale.
- Walt Disney World Now Testing Facial Recognition Technology for Theme Park Entry
- https://wdwnt.com/2021/03/facial-recognition-tested-for-park-admission-this-morning-at-magic-kingdom/
- https://bit.ly/3vYIzE7
- Facial recognition technology was tested Tuesday morning at the entrance to Magic Kingdom. Walt Disney World has shifted in recent months to utilizing more touchless technology, and the newest addition could be touchless entry to the theme parks through facial recognition.
- The test was optional Tuesday morning, and testing will continue sporadically. The test was only conducted for a short period.
- The testing takes place in three easy steps. Guests begin by entering the designated facial recognition testing lane. After that, guests are instructed to remove any hats, visors, or sunglasses before approaching the facial recognition testing zone. Guests will need to position their MagicBand or valid park admission close to a scanner to activate the technology. The technology will then capture an image and convert that into a unique number that is associated with the valid ticket.
- Disney added a note stating that the “security, integrity, and confidentiality of your information are extremely important to us.” They go on to state that the images captured will only be stored for 30 days, and that the images or unique numbers will not be shared with third parties. They also add that despite strict security measures, “no security measures are perfect or impenetrable.”

- Star Wars Committed To Having A Woman Of Color Lead The Franchise?
- https://bit.ly/3rcfLVe
- We can’t say Star Wars is going through a Renaissance only because the franchise has been so massive for so many years that it would be tough to distinguish it that way. But I do think we can say it’s having another *moment* with a new batch of stories and beloved characters taking the screen in all kinds of projects. And now we are getting word that the studio is committed to making sure the future cast is as diverse a group as possible. According to insider Daniel Richtman, for the next trilogy of movies, they are committed to having a woman of color take the lead role in whatever story is told.
- This is very early Star Wars news considering the previous trilogy only just wrapped up with The Rise of Skywalker finishing the third trilogy’s run in 2019. But in the current movie and content landscape, it’s never too early to look ahead to the next thing. And the folks at Lucasfilm are obviously already starting to map out the franchise movies looking ahead. That will mean new casting and it appears their intention is to ensure the next story focuses on a woman of color in that lead role, whatever the story may be.
- Apparently, the intention for the Star Wars franchise, with their next set of films is to have a female-led roster with a group of women leading the film and driving the story. Considering the history of the franchise, this isn’t a total divergent path, but rather something they’ve been working towards in recent years.
- The previous trilogy of Star Wars films, starting with The Force Awakens in 2015 did begin this shift already, casting a female in the lead with Daisy Ridley taking over the Rae duties and becoming the key to the Jedi fight against the Dark Side. And of course, John Boyega was by her side for much of it in leading the Resistance against the First Order. So it’s clear that the studio has been working toward more inclusive casting in their films.
- And the same can be said for the Star Wars series on Disney+ as well. Pedro Pascal is the lead in The Mandalorian which has spawned a number of offshoot programs coming down the pike and reinvigorated the universe with new characters while also calling back to some of the more timeless ones as well. One character getting her own series in the next batch of programs will be Ahsoka Tano played by Rosario Dawson. That series is set for a 2022 release.
- What happens with the next trilogy of Star Wars movies remains to be seen. Considering the gap between the other sets of films, I doubt anything is all that imminent right now with Lucasfilm simply mapping out what the next set of stories could look like in this universe. In the meantime, there’s plenty to dive into when it comes to the franchise. The Mandalorian will be returning for a third season, Ahsoka is coming next year as well and Obi-Wan Kenobi is getting his own Ewan McGregor-led show as well. These are just some of the projects coming before we get that new aforementioned lead in the next Star Wars movie.
- The ‘Star Wars’ ’80s Ewoks Show and Movie Are Swinging Over to Disney+
- https://collider.com/star-wars-ewoks-movies-tv-shows-disney-plus/?fbclid=IwAR1jEB_9r5jVlPGCoDSkLRu1lmB4f4g-0qMaRuvIOg5dAwdi3M8sU595Vps
- https://bit.ly/2PrPxk9
- The beautiful forest moon of Endor is coming our way with the release of the Ewok shows and movies that dominated in the ’80s! In a release from Disney on their April Disney+ additions, we learned that Star Wars: Ewoks Seasons 1 and 2, Ewoks: The Battle for Endor, and The Story of the Faithful Wookiee (the latter of which is a segment from the ill-fate 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special, as io9 reminds us) all are heading to the streaming platform on April 2.
- The Star Wars franchise has an interesting history, especially back when the original trilogy was still being released, and that meant we experienced things like the Star Wars: Holiday Special and Ewoks: The Battle for Endor and just accepted them. Now though, fans of Star Wars can explore the wacky fun world of the Ewoks franchise on Disney+ in April.
- So why is this so exciting? Mainly because there are decades of Star Wars fans who had only heard legends of these shows and movies. Much like the Holiday Special before them, they were pretty hard to find and forgotten to the sands of time. With The Story of the Faithful Wookiee, that’s currently the only bit of the Holiday Special we’re getting, sadly (which, for fans who have seen the full thing, is just the animated introduction of Boba Fett to the world of Star Wars).
- Right now, as SYFY points out, these Ewok adventures are not part of the Star Wars canon. Much like a lot of the extended universe, the Disney acquisition essentially erased anything that wasn’t the live-action movies and The Clone Wars. However, that doesn’t mean that the Ewoks will forever be erased from Star Wars lore. With them coming to Disney+, we could see more of a connection in the live-action world or a shift, as some characters have made the leap from the animated or novel world with shows like The Mandalorian. So it wouldn’t be outrageous to hope that they’re somehow worked into the main Star Wars world! But even if the Ewoks and their lore don’t have a lasting imprint in the overall canon of the Star Wars franchise we know and love, it is still exciting to see these very ’80s shows (and a movie!) make their way to Disney+.
- Going back on journeys with Warwick Davis’ Wicket is going to be an adventure for us all. All these new Star Wars properties and more are heading to Disney+ on April 2.

- 114-year-old New Jersey theme park prepares to be auctioned off

- A 114-year-old theme park in Clementon, New Jersey, is about to go on the auction block.
- On Friday, interested buyers visited the closed Clementon Amusement Park & Splash World — about 30 minutes outside Philadelphia — to check out the park and its inventory ahead of its public auction Tuesday, according to recent reports.
- NJ.com reported that the park has almost 400 items on its inventory, including a 40-person arc swing, a 360-degree loop ride, a ferris wheel and a train system complete with cooled propane engine, rail system and three 18-foot long cars.
- Capital Recovery Group (CRG) first announced that it was putting the park up for auction in February.
- According to that announcement, the 22-acre theme park “will be auctioned in its entirety or will be sold as land, equipment, rides, buildings and liquor license in pieces.”
- “We are actively seeking a buyer for this iconic park located outside of Philadelphia and expect significant interest in the auction,” CRG President Bill Firestone said in February. “The property includes a 25-acre lake, dam, amusement rides, a water park and a full liquor license.”
- According to the CRG website, the property is being promoted as a “turnkey or redevelopment opportunity.”
- CRG Vice President Gary Katz told NJ.com there has been plenty of interest in the park.
- “We’ve had a lot of interest in the rides and smaller items,” Katz told the website. “There have been people who talk about reopening it up and others for development opportunities. I’ve taken a tremendous amount of calls, so we’ll wait and see.”
- Clementon Park was founded in 1907 and added the water park in later years. The amusement park closed in September 2019.
- According to NJ.com, Clementon Park was assessed at $4.25 million in 2019.

- BOSTON (CBS) — Boston is paying a special tribute to actor Leonard Nimoy, who would have turned 90 years old later this month. Mayor Marty Walsh is declaring his birthday, March 26, to be “Leonard Nimoy Day” in the city.
- Nimoy, who died in 2015, was born in Boston’s West End neighborhood. He’ll always be remembered for portraying the logical, pointy-eared Spock in “Star Trek,” and embracing the Vulcan character’s “live long and prosper” motto.
- Walsh wrote that Nimoy “brought honor upon his native city” with his accomplishments and “gave the immigrant, the refugee, and the oppressed, a hero for ‘the Outsider.’”
- “I encourage all Bostonians to recognize Leonard Nimoy’s commitment and dedication to the Arts and the lasting impact that he has left on the community,” Walsh said.
- Nimoy’s daughter Julie shared news of the proclamation on social media.
- As a special tribute to dad @TheRealNimoy life and legacy, the @CityOfBoston just announced that on his birthday, 3/26 will officially be #LeonardNimoyDay! Thank you Mayor @marty_walsh for supporting this proclamation! @nimoycopdfilm #COPD
- Boston University awarded Nimoy an honorary degree in 2012.

- The Last Blockbuster (2020)
- This nostalgic documentary reveals the real story of Blockbuster’s demise, and how one last location in Oregon keeps the spirit of a bygone era alive.
- The documentary tells the story of Blockbuster Video, a video rental business. The documentary explores how the video rental company put independent video rental stores out of business by striking deals with film studios. These deals, known as revenue-share deals, allowed Blockbuster to negotiate lower price than their local counterparts in exchange for a cut of the rental fees.
- The film follows Sandi Harding, the general manager of the last store over the course of a number of years. Actor and Clerks director Kevin Smith discusses the kind of businesses that Blockbuster put out of business and how they inspired his debut film. Other interviewees include Adam Brody, Samm Levine, Ron Funches, Paul Scheer, Doug Benson, and Brian Posehn.

0:03:17.519,0:03:22.879
restored to our lives once we’re fully
0:03:21.040,0:03:25.280
clear on the vaccinations so
0:03:22.879,0:03:26.879
congratulations thank you
0:03:25.280,0:03:29.200
so that’s not what we’re talking about
0:03:26.879,0:03:32.159
today but it’s worth mentioning
0:03:29.200,0:03:33.360
uh so in today’s episode uh in our
0:03:32.159,0:03:36.159
disney detective
0:03:33.360,0:03:37.599
we will talk about disneyland finally
0:03:36.159,0:03:39.519
reopening
0:03:37.599,0:03:40.799
and walt disney world is going to be
0:03:39.519,0:03:43.519
trying out some new
0:03:40.799,0:03:44.400
facial recognition so disney is in your
0:03:43.519,0:03:48.000
face
0:03:44.400,0:03:49.599
tease your face he’s a face uh
0:03:48.000,0:03:52.799
then in our tales from the edge of the
0:03:49.599,0:03:57.120
galaxy will star wars be looking to have
0:03:52.799,0:03:57.120
a woman of color as the next lead
0:03:57.599,0:04:01.360
we did have a very good woman of color
0:03:59.439,0:04:02.959
in the uh solo film
0:04:01.360,0:04:05.680
unfortunately she didn’t make it through
0:04:02.959,0:04:07.920
the whole film she didn’t survive
0:04:05.680,0:04:09.200
but she played a very heroic please a
0:04:07.920,0:04:11.360
very pivotal part in the
0:04:09.200,0:04:12.400
in the movie so congratulations to that
0:04:11.360,0:04:13.920
yeah
0:04:12.400,0:04:16.400
then we’ll also talk about some of the
0:04:13.920,0:04:16.959
classic 80s star wars shows coming to
0:04:16.400,0:04:20.079
disney
0:04:16.959,0:04:21.359
so we get to see those he won’t those
0:04:20.079,0:04:25.040
dandy walks from
0:04:21.359,0:04:28.080
the ewok village of the dan right
0:04:25.040,0:04:30.639
exactly then in our entertainment
0:04:28.080,0:04:31.360
news you want to buy a jersey amusement
0:04:30.639,0:04:34.080
park
0:04:31.360,0:04:36.160
we got one for sale yep we’ll talk about
0:04:34.080,0:04:36.639
that we’ll talk about boston declaring
0:04:36.160,0:04:40.000
march
0:04:36.639,0:04:41.199
26 to be leonard nimoy day which i think
0:04:40.000,0:04:44.320
is
0:04:41.199,0:04:47.199
kind of late but kind of cool
0:04:44.320,0:04:48.639
um because he’s kind of passed away a
0:04:47.199,0:04:49.919
few years ago so they’re a little late
0:04:48.639,0:04:53.120
to the party on this one right
0:04:49.919,0:04:54.560
i get it yeah it’s okay then we’ll
0:04:53.120,0:04:56.000
finish up with our insightful picks of
0:04:54.560,0:04:58.720
the week one of which i
0:04:56.000,0:05:00.560
have a very offbeat pick that i don’t
0:04:58.720,0:05:04.000
normally do this category so
0:05:00.560,0:05:05.440
uh oh now i’m intrigued yeah that’s the
0:05:04.000,0:05:07.280
tease there you go gotta wait till the
0:05:05.440,0:05:09.039
end of the show for that one
0:05:07.280,0:05:11.199
uh before we do get started i would

0:05:57.199,0:06:00.960
before we get into it though one quick
0:05:59.199,0:06:02.479
programming note we are changing our
0:06:00.960,0:06:04.319
schedule up
0:06:02.479,0:06:05.520
so normally we would record on the
0:06:04.319,0:06:07.600
weekends right
0:06:05.520,0:06:09.039
but for our spring and summer schedule
0:06:07.600,0:06:12.080
we’re going to try recording
0:06:09.039,0:06:12.479
evenings during the week we seem to get
0:06:12.080,0:06:14.319
more
0:06:12.479,0:06:16.080
viewers during the week watching our
0:06:14.319,0:06:17.840
rebroadcasts
0:06:16.080,0:06:20.160
plus we want to do stuff on the weekends
0:06:17.840,0:06:22.400
right so it’s you know not entirely
0:06:20.160,0:06:24.240
you know unselfish of us right you know
0:06:22.400,0:06:26.240
that whole we’re vaccinated we’d
0:06:24.240,0:06:27.600
like to leave the house right we’ll be
0:06:26.240,0:06:29.280
able to leave the house at some point
0:06:27.600,0:06:31.840
not that there’s much going on yet
0:06:29.280,0:06:32.639
but there’s we want to leave that door
0:06:31.840,0:06:34.800
open
0:06:32.639,0:06:36.560
so for those of you who watch our live
0:06:34.800,0:06:36.880
broadcast on the weekends we are moving
0:06:36.560,0:06:39.919
to
0:06:36.880,0:06:41.440
wednesdays and tuesdays right around
0:06:39.919,0:06:43.360
this time between six
0:06:41.440,0:06:44.560
wednesday and thursday i’m sorry
0:06:43.360,0:06:47.919
wednesday and thursday
0:06:44.560,0:06:49.919
right uh right around this time between
0:06:47.919,0:06:51.599
six and seven we don’t really have a set
0:06:49.919,0:06:53.120
start time it’s really
0:06:51.599,0:06:55.039
whatever’s going on in the household at
0:06:53.120,0:06:56.560
the time whenever we’re done with dinner
0:06:55.039,0:06:57.840
uh but it’s important for us to get done
0:06:56.560,0:06:58.880
at eight because we have other things
0:06:57.840,0:07:01.440
going on at eight
0:06:58.880,0:07:03.199
right so we have us we have a set date
0:07:01.440,0:07:05.680
at 8 o’clock
0:07:03.199,0:07:07.199
so anyway that’s it for our public
0:07:05.680,0:07:10.990
service announcement
0:07:07.199,0:07:14.840
uh are we ready to get into it sure all
0:07:10.990,0:07:17.759
[Applause]
0:07:14.840,0:07:20.240
right
0:07:17.759,0:07:22.000
that’s the wrong song board i i didn’t
0:07:20.240,0:07:25.050
switch the sound boards
0:07:22.000,0:07:27.680
hang on wait i got hold on
0:07:25.050,0:07:30.639
[Music]
0:07:27.680,0:07:32.479
i was like now i need a laugh track why
0:07:30.639,0:07:34.880
are you laughing at me
0:07:32.479,0:07:36.639
go for disney detectives so this was
0:07:34.880,0:07:39.120
exciting news that came out
0:07:36.639,0:07:40.240
uh a couple of i guess it was about two
0:07:39.120,0:07:42.880
weeks ago now
0:07:40.240,0:07:45.520
um was that disneyland finally has a
0:07:42.880,0:07:48.800
reopening date
0:07:45.520,0:07:52.000
they will be reopening on april 30th
0:07:48.800,0:07:53.120
um they’ll be you know welcoming guests
0:07:52.000,0:07:54.960
in
0:07:53.120,0:07:56.240
it’s obviously going to be a much
0:07:54.960,0:07:59.360
different
0:07:56.240,0:08:02.800
atmosphere kind of you know to the same
0:07:59.360,0:08:05.199
uh uh level that
0:08:02.800,0:08:06.000
when walt disney world opened they’re
0:08:05.199,0:08:08.080
gonna
0:08:06.000,0:08:09.199
kind of be doing the same thing so
0:08:08.080,0:08:11.840
there’s not gonna be the
0:08:09.199,0:08:14.000
uh parades uh there’s not going to be
0:08:11.840,0:08:16.400
the fireworks
0:08:14.000,0:08:18.879
there’s not going to be fast passes or
0:08:16.400,0:08:21.919
the magical mornings
0:08:18.879,0:08:22.560
but they are going to be you know trying
0:08:21.919,0:08:25.680
to
0:08:22.560,0:08:28.960
plus it in other ways so
0:08:25.680,0:08:31.919
right now uh they’re going to be
0:08:28.960,0:08:32.959
perk california’s uh guidance for the
0:08:31.919,0:08:36.000
red tier
0:08:32.959,0:08:36.320
the park will be opened at 15 capacity
0:08:36.000,0:08:38.159
and
0:08:36.320,0:08:40.640
only florida residents at this point
0:08:38.159,0:08:43.599
will be able to visit um
0:08:40.640,0:08:45.920
and if you figure only 15 is going in
0:08:43.599,0:08:48.000
that means smaller crowds will obviously
0:08:45.920,0:08:50.399
give you a better ride experience
0:08:48.000,0:08:54.320
limited capacities in stores and give
0:08:50.399,0:08:56.080
people space to shop without the crowds
0:08:54.320,0:08:57.519
you know so for many the trade-off of
0:08:56.080,0:08:59.440
having to wear a mask
0:08:57.519,0:09:01.839
and being stationary while eating or
0:08:59.440,0:09:04.720
drinking will be worth the experience of
0:09:01.839,0:09:05.680
not having the park so crowded so while
0:09:04.720,0:09:08.240
disney doesn’t
0:09:05.680,0:09:10.080
actually release attendance numbers
0:09:08.240,0:09:13.120
disney news dot u s
0:09:10.080,0:09:16.880
estimates that disneyland had about 51
0:09:13.120,0:09:20.640
000 visitors per day across the parks in
0:09:16.880,0:09:23.120
uh 2019 so at 15 percent the park would
0:09:20.640,0:09:26.640
cap it just about 20 000 people
0:09:23.120,0:09:28.720
uh per day so that’s not really
0:09:26.640,0:09:31.279
very crowded so if you can you know
0:09:28.720,0:09:34.480
manage to get a reservation
0:09:31.279,0:09:37.040
you know to visit obviously you know
0:09:34.480,0:09:38.480
and and you feel safe enough going not a
0:09:37.040,0:09:41.920
bad time to go
0:09:38.480,0:09:42.720
um so obviously the way that they’re
0:09:41.920,0:09:45.920
doing this
0:09:42.720,0:09:48.240
is the same way that they did uh that
0:09:45.920,0:09:50.560
they’re still doing with magic kingdom
0:09:48.240,0:09:51.920
um with walt disney world is that you
0:09:50.560,0:09:54.959
have to make a reservation
0:09:51.920,0:09:55.680
for a specific day uh when you go to
0:09:54.959,0:09:58.480
purchase
0:09:55.680,0:09:59.200
uh your ticket um as of right now
0:09:58.480,0:10:01.920
tickets have
0:09:59.200,0:10:04.079
not gone on sale yet um and disney
0:10:01.920,0:10:04.959
basically says keep checking back our
0:10:04.079,0:10:08.079
website
0:10:04.959,0:10:11.680
um you know before for updates so
0:10:08.079,0:10:15.200
as of um the other day they hadn’t
0:10:11.680,0:10:17.839
released uh when it was going to be uh
0:10:15.200,0:10:18.880
open but they said you know one of the
0:10:17.839,0:10:20.880
things is
0:10:18.880,0:10:22.399
space mountain will have probably a zero
0:10:20.880,0:10:24.800
minute wait which is
0:10:22.399,0:10:26.399
it never has so this is your one and
0:10:24.800,0:10:28.800
only opportunity to
0:10:26.399,0:10:30.800
you know to go to the park um you know
0:10:28.800,0:10:33.040
it’s almost like a private party really
0:10:30.800,0:10:34.000
you know when you think about uh when
0:10:33.040,0:10:36.720
you think about it
0:10:34.000,0:10:37.600
um so again they’re gonna be doing uh so
0:10:36.720,0:10:40.079
instead of doing
0:10:37.600,0:10:41.839
the parades like they would normally do
0:10:40.079,0:10:43.360
they’re gonna be doing the character
0:10:41.839,0:10:44.399
cavalcades what they call it we’re
0:10:43.360,0:10:47.279
basically just like
0:10:44.399,0:10:47.920
one or two floats will go down main
0:10:47.279,0:10:50.560
street
0:10:47.920,0:10:52.480
and it’s never at the same time so they
0:10:50.560,0:10:53.360
randomize it so this way there’s nobody
0:10:52.480,0:10:56.000
standing around
0:10:53.360,0:10:57.760
waiting um you know for a crowd to
0:10:56.000,0:10:59.120
gather so it’s just kind of
0:10:57.760,0:11:01.760
you have to be in the right place at the
0:10:59.120,0:11:05.440
right time you know for it to happen
0:11:01.760,0:11:07.200
the other thing too is that they
0:11:05.440,0:11:08.959
have been doing a lot of renovations
0:11:07.200,0:11:10.079
because the park has been closed now for
0:11:08.959,0:11:12.880
over a year
0:11:10.079,0:11:14.720
so they were already starting to make
0:11:12.880,0:11:18.160
some changes to some of the rides
0:11:14.720,0:11:20.480
so now they’ve been taking this time
0:11:18.160,0:11:21.360
to to finish up some of these things so
0:11:20.480,0:11:24.640
one of
0:11:21.360,0:11:26.720
the big things is that snow white’s
0:11:24.640,0:11:29.600
scary adventure has now been changed
0:11:26.720,0:11:34.240
over to snow white’s enchanted wish
0:11:29.600,0:11:36.880
so they totally renovated that
0:11:34.240,0:11:39.200
and they uh so now there’s a scene where
0:11:36.880,0:11:41.519
there’s a dancing figure of snow white
0:11:39.200,0:11:42.320
who’s joining the dwarfs in their
0:11:41.519,0:11:45.920
cottage
0:11:42.320,0:11:45.920
as the scent of apple pie
0:11:46.240,0:11:49.440
goes through the air the other thing
0:11:48.399,0:11:51.839
that came out
0:11:49.440,0:11:54.000
um is that they were adding some new
0:11:51.839,0:11:56.320
magic to the haunted mansion
0:11:54.000,0:11:58.160
so um there have been a couple of
0:11:56.320,0:12:00.800
articles but nothing’s actually said
0:11:58.160,0:12:01.519
what it was so that’ll be kind of fun to
0:12:00.800,0:12:03.920
see
0:12:01.519,0:12:05.839
um when the park actually opens what
0:12:03.920,0:12:08.000
they kind of plussed with that
0:12:05.839,0:12:10.160
uh the other thing is in disney
0:12:08.000,0:12:13.120
california adventure uh
0:12:10.160,0:12:15.680
the new avengers campus is almost
0:12:13.120,0:12:18.560
completely open so while it won’t be
0:12:15.680,0:12:21.279
open when the park opens on the 30th
0:12:18.560,0:12:23.120
it’s not going to be too far behind
0:12:21.279,0:12:25.120
so that’ll be you know kind of something
0:12:23.120,0:12:26.880
to to look forward to
0:12:25.120,0:12:28.399
obviously some of the shows that they’ve
0:12:26.880,0:12:31.519
had in the past
0:12:28.399,0:12:34.240
won’t be opening up and probably
0:12:31.519,0:12:35.440
won’t ever open back up or at least not
0:12:34.240,0:12:37.279
for a couple of years
0:12:35.440,0:12:38.800
but at least you know they’re making
0:12:37.279,0:12:41.440
changes to other things
0:12:38.800,0:12:42.320
to kind of you know give you a good
0:12:41.440,0:12:45.920
experience
0:12:42.320,0:12:49.120
uh for going so just to clarify
0:12:45.920,0:12:51.360
both parks both parks um
0:12:49.120,0:12:52.880
no announcement on how many reservations
0:12:51.360,0:12:56.000
they’re going to be allowing per day
0:12:52.880,0:12:58.160
right because they never really
0:12:56.000,0:12:59.760
say what their you know the the
0:12:58.160,0:13:02.959
guesstimate was
0:12:59.760,0:13:04.480
20 000 guests per day the other thing
0:13:02.959,0:13:05.200
too is some of the hotels are going to
0:13:04.480,0:13:07.839
start
0:13:05.200,0:13:09.920
accepting reservations for like i think
0:13:07.839,0:13:10.800
two days before park opens or one day
0:13:09.920,0:13:14.079
before
0:13:10.800,0:13:18.000
park open so various other amenities
0:13:14.079,0:13:22.639
uh will be opening up as well what about
0:13:18.000,0:13:24.639
hours are they running abbreviated hours
0:13:22.639,0:13:25.839
yeah as of right now they haven’t
0:13:24.639,0:13:28.480
mentioned
0:13:25.839,0:13:29.200
anything beyond we’re opening on the the
0:13:28.480,0:13:31.360
30th
0:13:29.200,0:13:32.639
any preferential treatment for people
0:13:31.360,0:13:35.760
staying at the
0:13:32.639,0:13:36.399
at the disney hotels there i don’t think
0:13:35.760,0:13:38.959
so i
0:13:36.399,0:13:41.120
because they’re doing you know um
0:13:38.959,0:13:43.040
california residents
0:13:41.120,0:13:45.120
i don’t you know i would hope if you’re
0:13:43.040,0:13:48.639
making a hotel reservation
0:13:45.120,0:13:50.880
that kind of helps you a little bit but
0:13:48.639,0:13:52.240
um you know i think in in a lot of cases
0:13:50.880,0:13:55.279
it’s probably first come
0:13:52.240,0:13:57.760
first serve okay well good news we’re
0:13:55.279,0:13:59.839
moving in the right direction absolutely
0:13:57.760,0:14:00.800
uh what else do we have to talk about
0:13:59.839,0:14:03.360
let’s talk about
0:14:00.800,0:14:04.959
disney getting in your face right so now
0:14:03.360,0:14:06.480
we’re going to go from the west coast
0:14:04.959,0:14:08.800
over to the east coast
0:14:06.480,0:14:10.720
so it seems that facial recognition
0:14:08.800,0:14:12.880
technology was tested
0:14:10.720,0:14:14.079
tuesday morning at the entrance of the
0:14:12.880,0:14:16.160
magic kingdom
0:14:14.079,0:14:17.839
walt disney world has shifted in recent
0:14:16.160,0:14:20.320
months to utilizing
0:14:17.839,0:14:21.440
more of a touchless technology and the
0:14:20.320,0:14:24.399
newest addition
0:14:21.440,0:14:26.720
could be a touchless entry to the theme
0:14:24.399,0:14:28.800
parks through facial recognition
0:14:26.720,0:14:30.000
so the test was optional on tuesday
0:14:28.800,0:14:33.120
morning and testing
0:14:30.000,0:14:35.199
will continue sporadically the test was
0:14:33.120,0:14:36.160
only conducted for a short period of
0:14:35.199,0:14:38.480
time
0:14:36.160,0:14:39.199
the testing takes place in three easy
0:14:38.480,0:14:41.600
steps
0:14:39.199,0:14:44.320
guests begin by entering a designated
0:14:41.600,0:14:45.040
facial recognition testing lane and then
0:14:44.320,0:14:47.199
after that
0:14:45.040,0:14:48.880
guests are instructed to remove any hats
0:14:47.199,0:14:51.680
or visors or sunglasses
0:14:48.880,0:14:52.959
before approaching the recognition
0:14:51.680,0:14:54.880
testing zone
0:14:52.959,0:14:57.040
guests will need to position their magic
0:14:54.880,0:14:58.959
band or valid admission
0:14:57.040,0:15:01.199
close to the scanner to activate the
0:14:58.959,0:15:02.560
technology and then the technology will
0:15:01.199,0:15:05.519
capture an image
0:15:02.560,0:15:08.320
and convert it into a unique number that
0:15:05.519,0:15:11.360
is associated with your valid ticket
0:15:08.320,0:15:14.079
disney added that uh
0:15:11.360,0:15:15.199
security integrity and confidentiality
0:15:14.079,0:15:17.279
of your information
0:15:15.199,0:15:19.920
are extremely important to us and they
0:15:17.279,0:15:22.320
go on to state that the images are only
0:15:19.920,0:15:24.320
uh the images that are captured will
0:15:22.320,0:15:26.720
only be stored for 30 days
0:15:24.320,0:15:29.199
and that the images or unique numbers
0:15:26.720,0:15:31.839
will not be shared with third parties
0:15:29.199,0:15:33.279
uh they also added that despite strict
0:15:31.839,0:15:36.000
security measures
0:15:33.279,0:15:37.199
no security measures are perfect or
0:15:36.000,0:15:39.440
impenetrable
0:15:37.199,0:15:41.199
so nice thing to have a little that
0:15:39.440,0:15:42.800
caveat there that hey you know we’re
0:15:41.199,0:15:43.839
gonna be really secure except for when
0:15:42.800,0:15:47.040
we’re not secure
0:15:43.839,0:15:49.040
right we’re not really sure and
0:15:47.040,0:15:50.160
so let me ask you how do you feel about
0:15:49.040,0:15:52.560
this well
0:15:50.160,0:15:53.440
you figure they have my fingerprint
0:15:52.560,0:15:55.199
every time
0:15:53.440,0:15:56.959
you know they well but do they can do
0:15:55.199,0:15:58.880
they keep the fingerprint for 30 days or
0:15:56.959,0:16:00.959
is that captain definitely i don’t know
0:15:58.880,0:16:03.279
because well think about it when if you
0:16:00.959,0:16:06.839
have an annual pass
0:16:03.279,0:16:08.079
it’s the full year it’s it’s a full 12
0:16:06.839,0:16:09.600
months they handling that with facial
0:16:08.079,0:16:11.440
recognition well they didn’t
0:16:09.600,0:16:12.800
you know at this point they’re just
0:16:11.440,0:16:16.160
maybe it’s one of those
0:16:12.800,0:16:18.399
every month you have to redo right your
0:16:16.160,0:16:20.720
your facial recognition any any
0:16:18.399,0:16:22.320
statistics on how long it takes for the
0:16:20.720,0:16:25.600
process to happen no
0:16:22.320,0:16:30.639
again this was uh the article uh
0:16:25.600,0:16:33.440
was popped up on wdwnt.com
0:16:30.639,0:16:34.320
and it was just one of those somebody
0:16:33.440,0:16:37.680
happened to be there
0:16:34.320,0:16:39.440
and they saw it going on so it was just
0:16:37.680,0:16:40.800
kind of a spur of the moment thing they
0:16:39.440,0:16:43.040
were testing it i guess
0:16:40.800,0:16:44.320
probably to see they’re probably doing
0:16:43.040,0:16:47.040
time testing i’m sure
0:16:44.320,0:16:48.480
right uh to see how long it takes to you
0:16:47.040,0:16:50.320
know to set it up
0:16:48.480,0:16:52.320
because facial recognition isn’t a new
0:16:50.320,0:16:54.160
technology we we experienced
0:16:52.320,0:16:55.600
it when we went to hershey right they
0:16:54.160,0:16:57.360
were doing uh well
0:16:55.600,0:16:59.279
they weren’t doing facial recognition
0:16:57.360,0:17:01.120
they were doing facial scanning
0:16:59.279,0:17:02.399
for thermal scanning for thermostat
0:17:01.120,0:17:04.240
right
0:17:02.399,0:17:06.319
i happen to have those same exact
0:17:04.240,0:17:08.880
scanners at my office
0:17:06.319,0:17:11.520
and the back end of that allows you to
0:17:08.880,0:17:14.240
create a database of employees
0:17:11.520,0:17:15.520
and you once the employee scans in you
0:17:14.240,0:17:18.559
can go into the database
0:17:15.520,0:17:20.559
and then add their unique information
0:17:18.559,0:17:22.240
so that the next time they come through
0:17:20.559,0:17:25.039
and it scans them
0:17:22.240,0:17:26.799
it actually logs them into the system as
0:17:25.039,0:17:27.520
themselves with the facial recognition
0:17:26.799,0:17:30.320
right
0:17:27.520,0:17:30.960
and that’s near instantaneous uh i’m
0:17:30.320,0:17:33.919
curious
0:17:30.960,0:17:35.679
how the scanning with the magic band and
0:17:33.919,0:17:37.200
how far away you have to be because one
0:17:35.679,0:17:39.280
of the things with
0:17:37.200,0:17:40.799
facial recognition is there’s generally
0:17:39.280,0:17:43.280
a
0:17:40.799,0:17:44.240
maximum distance and you have to be in
0:17:43.280,0:17:46.400
that sweet spot
0:17:44.240,0:17:47.440
right um you have to have certain
0:17:46.400,0:17:49.840
lighting conditions
0:17:47.440,0:17:51.520
right um and one of the problems they’ve
0:17:49.840,0:17:52.799
traditionally had with facial
0:17:51.520,0:17:56.480
recognition
0:17:52.799,0:17:58.400
has been scanning certain skin tones
0:17:56.480,0:18:00.799
for instance african-americans have
0:17:58.400,0:18:03.280
traditionally had significant issues
0:18:00.799,0:18:04.799
right accurately scanning because of the
0:18:03.280,0:18:08.240
darker skin tones right
0:18:04.799,0:18:12.480
but we’ve seen that even happen uh
0:18:08.240,0:18:15.200
in other technology with uh
0:18:12.480,0:18:17.440
hispanic and asian you know the the
0:18:15.200,0:18:19.919
technology seems to be
0:18:17.440,0:18:20.799
um geared and and optimized for
0:18:19.919,0:18:24.080
caucasians
0:18:20.799,0:18:26.880
right and that’s not what you
0:18:24.080,0:18:28.400
get at disney you get whatever you get
0:18:26.880,0:18:30.480
everybody there yeah
0:18:28.400,0:18:31.600
absolutely i’m also curious how it
0:18:30.480,0:18:33.760
handles facial hair
0:18:31.600,0:18:35.840
right um you know i go in there with a
0:18:33.760,0:18:37.120
full beer today i may shave tomorrow
0:18:35.840,0:18:37.520
while i’m at the park because it’s too
0:18:37.120,0:18:39.520
hot
0:18:37.520,0:18:41.919
does it does it scan me at that right
0:18:39.520,0:18:42.400
right you say you have to take off hats
0:18:41.919,0:18:46.160
and
0:18:42.400,0:18:47.360
and masks and everything else which
0:18:46.160,0:18:49.280
i don’t know how long you’re without
0:18:47.360,0:18:50.160
your mask at that point too right and
0:18:49.280,0:18:52.559
it’s probably
0:18:50.160,0:18:53.520
just you know for anybody that’s gone if
0:18:52.559,0:18:56.720
you have
0:18:53.520,0:18:58.880
a multi-day ticket you have to do
0:18:56.720,0:19:00.400
the fingerprint thing so really this is
0:18:58.880,0:19:01.440
taking place of
0:19:00.400,0:19:03.600
because you still have to have your
0:19:01.440,0:19:06.640
magic band you still have to have
0:19:03.600,0:19:07.280
your your park pass and this is just
0:19:06.640,0:19:09.200
that
0:19:07.280,0:19:11.280
that extra level so that this way
0:19:09.200,0:19:12.960
somebody else isn’t using your pass
0:19:11.280,0:19:14.559
so when you would normally go you would
0:19:12.960,0:19:17.600
do the fingerprint reader
0:19:14.559,0:19:18.960
and your first time using your pass it
0:19:17.600,0:19:20.640
takes a couple extra
0:19:18.960,0:19:22.400
seconds because they you know they need
0:19:20.640,0:19:22.720
to record your fingerprint to match it
0:19:22.400,0:19:25.200
up
0:19:22.720,0:19:26.080
and like it fails one out of every seven
0:19:25.200,0:19:27.919
times too
0:19:26.080,0:19:29.440
exactly because that’s why they have the
0:19:27.919,0:19:31.039
cast member sitting there
0:19:29.440,0:19:32.799
to just hit the button and be like all
0:19:31.039,0:19:34.799
right just go um i don’t know
0:19:32.799,0:19:35.919
i’m not entirely comfortable having
0:19:34.799,0:19:38.960
disney have
0:19:35.919,0:19:40.720
another piece of biometric
0:19:38.960,0:19:43.039
and that’s the thing is you know at this
0:19:40.720,0:19:44.720
point it’s it’s optional they’re
0:19:43.039,0:19:46.480
you know and this is just for admission
0:19:44.720,0:19:47.679
this is not for fast passes or anything
0:19:46.480,0:19:49.440
yeah this is just
0:19:47.679,0:19:51.919
getting in the park and i’m guessing
0:19:49.440,0:19:53.919
again if it’s something where you don’t
0:19:51.919,0:19:57.200
have a multi-day park
0:19:53.919,0:19:59.280
ticket then you wouldn’t have to do this
0:19:57.200,0:20:01.120
and uh right now you can’t park hop
0:19:59.280,0:20:04.640
still right i think
0:20:01.120,0:20:06.799
park hopping actually did start this
0:20:04.640,0:20:08.400
month i thought so then my next question
0:20:06.799,0:20:10.159
is does it work park hopping or do i
0:20:08.400,0:20:12.240
have to scan in for each park
0:20:10.159,0:20:13.520
well you’d have to you you have to scan
0:20:12.240,0:20:15.280
in each park
0:20:13.520,0:20:16.880
anyway when you well no no what i’m
0:20:15.280,0:20:19.760
saying is like do i have to
0:20:16.880,0:20:21.600
to redo it again right i’m thinking once
0:20:19.760,0:20:23.919
you do it the first time
0:20:21.600,0:20:25.039
you don’t have to redo because usually
0:20:23.919,0:20:27.610
all their systems are
0:20:25.039,0:20:28.799
yeah are connected so any any uh
0:20:27.610,0:20:30.720
[Music]
0:20:28.799,0:20:32.400
expected date on when they plan to roll
0:20:30.720,0:20:34.400
this out in production no again
0:20:32.400,0:20:36.080
this was just kind of like hey we were
0:20:34.400,0:20:37.200
at the park and we saw this happening so
0:20:36.080,0:20:37.679
we’re going to write a little story
0:20:37.200,0:20:40.400
about it
0:20:37.679,0:20:41.440
gotcha so i’m sure we’ll hear more you
0:20:40.400,0:20:44.159
know
0:20:41.440,0:20:46.080
definitely you know uh incorporating the
0:20:44.159,0:20:48.320
newer technology
0:20:46.080,0:20:49.919
doing it without being a touchless makes
0:20:48.320,0:20:52.960
a lot more sense
0:20:49.919,0:20:53.600
so maybe this is a sign of the new
0:20:52.960,0:20:56.640
normal
0:20:53.600,0:20:58.880
yeah so that was all we had for
0:20:56.640,0:21:01.039
our disney detective today we’ll take a
0:20:58.880,0:21:02.880
quick break and we’ll be right back with
0:21:01.039,0:21:03.679
our tales from the edge of the galaxy
0:21:02.880,0:21:07.039
and the right

pew pew pew pew pew pew go for tails
0:22:29.039,0:22:33.440
from the end of the galaxy
0:22:30.799,0:22:33.919
so uh in an article uh that came out
0:22:33.440,0:22:37.120
this week
0:22:33.919,0:22:38.720
from giant freakingrobot.com
0:22:37.120,0:22:40.480
see i like just saying that just just
0:22:38.720,0:22:40.799
because you bring a you get one from
0:22:40.480,0:22:43.440
them
0:22:40.799,0:22:44.480
each week it looks like now i try well
0:22:43.440,0:22:47.280
they’re really good
0:22:44.480,0:22:49.120
uh so uh the article that they had was
0:22:47.280,0:22:49.919
uh talking about how star wars is
0:22:49.120,0:22:53.200
committed
0:22:49.919,0:22:54.640
to having a woman of color lead in the
0:22:53.200,0:22:57.919
next franchise
0:22:54.640,0:22:58.559
so you know obviously it’s a little too
0:22:57.919,0:23:02.000
early
0:22:58.559,0:23:02.880
uh to to get a commitment about what the
0:23:02.000,0:23:05.520
cast
0:23:02.880,0:23:06.799
would look like but according to insider
0:23:05.520,0:23:08.960
daniel reitman
0:23:06.799,0:23:11.120
uh for the next trilogy of movies they
0:23:08.960,0:23:14.080
are committed to having a woman of color
0:23:11.120,0:23:14.880
take the lead uh in whatever story is
0:23:14.080,0:23:18.000
told
0:23:14.880,0:23:19.120
um so again very early you know we don’t
0:23:18.000,0:23:20.880
really know
0:23:19.120,0:23:22.640
much of what the next trilogy is going
0:23:20.880,0:23:23.520
to be because obviously rise of
0:23:22.640,0:23:27.039
skywalker
0:23:23.520,0:23:30.640
just uh finished its trilogy run
0:23:27.039,0:23:31.520
in 2019 and 19 but it looks like they’re
0:23:30.640,0:23:33.520
you know
0:23:31.520,0:23:34.799
thinking about how they want to kind of
0:23:33.520,0:23:37.120
go with uh
0:23:34.799,0:23:38.400
you know the next step so obviously the
0:23:37.120,0:23:41.520
intention is that this
0:23:38.400,0:23:42.080
next star wars franchise uh will be set
0:23:41.520,0:23:45.279
with
0:23:42.080,0:23:47.120
you know a very female led roster
0:23:45.279,0:23:49.200
uh with a group of women leading the
0:23:47.120,0:23:51.039
film and driving the story
0:23:49.200,0:23:52.640
uh considering the history of the
0:23:51.039,0:23:55.440
franchise it is in
0:23:52.640,0:23:56.000
you know a total you know change for
0:23:55.440,0:23:58.000
them
0:23:56.000,0:23:59.279
because obviously we’ve seen them kind
0:23:58.000,0:24:02.720
of change that
0:23:59.279,0:24:05.039
um in recent years uh obviously
0:24:02.720,0:24:07.360
with you know the force awakens and and
0:24:05.039,0:24:08.880
the newer trilogy
0:24:07.360,0:24:10.559
you had rey as one of the main
0:24:08.880,0:24:13.919
characters uh so
0:24:10.559,0:24:14.400
you know and some other you know female
0:24:13.919,0:24:16.880
leads
0:24:14.400,0:24:18.640
you know as well to help the story so
0:24:16.880,0:24:21.039
it’ll be interesting to kind of see
0:24:18.640,0:24:23.279
you know where they go with this um
0:24:21.039,0:24:26.240
obviously the same can be said for
0:24:23.279,0:24:27.679
star wars series on disney plus we had
0:24:26.240,0:24:30.159
the mandalorian
0:24:27.679,0:24:32.320
uh that came off and now we’re gonna
0:24:30.159,0:24:35.840
have all these different offshoots
0:24:32.320,0:24:39.440
um from that and ahsoka tana
0:24:35.840,0:24:42.559
played by rosario dawson is set to get
0:24:39.440,0:24:44.000
um you know a show of her own so you
0:24:42.559,0:24:47.600
know they’re kind of following
0:24:44.000,0:24:51.760
uh with that and that is set for a 2022
0:24:47.600,0:24:53.520
uh release date so again not sure
0:24:51.760,0:24:55.039
what their plan is and again because
0:24:53.520,0:24:55.520
it’s still kind of early i’m sure
0:24:55.039,0:24:57.840
they’re
0:24:55.520,0:25:00.000
they’re still in the um you know
0:24:57.840,0:25:01.840
brainstorming phase of everything but
0:25:00.000,0:25:03.440
it’ll be interesting to see where they
0:25:01.840,0:25:05.679
go you know with it
0:25:03.440,0:25:06.720
i hope they do it right and i hope they
0:25:05.679,0:25:09.679
do it justice
0:25:06.720,0:25:11.200
and they don’t make a you know an
0:25:09.679,0:25:13.200
african-american lead
0:25:11.200,0:25:15.840
female lead just for the sake of having
0:25:13.200,0:25:15.840
african-americans
0:25:16.480,0:25:20.960
like for instance rosario dawson i
0:25:19.120,0:25:22.240
couldn’t have asked for a better person
0:25:20.960,0:25:25.919
to fill that role she did
0:25:22.240,0:25:28.080
such a fantastic absolutely yeah um
0:25:25.919,0:25:31.360
i also hope that it’s not a trilogy
0:25:28.080,0:25:31.360
that’s led by ryan johnson
0:25:32.799,0:25:36.240
that’s true because he’s supposed to be
0:25:34.640,0:25:38.559
getting you know
0:25:36.240,0:25:40.480
isn’t he wasn’t he still gonna be
0:25:38.559,0:25:43.520
getting us to get his trilogy so
0:25:40.480,0:25:45.760
my fears that’s
0:25:43.520,0:25:46.880
what they give to him and then he tanks
0:25:45.760,0:25:51.039
it like he did
0:25:46.880,0:25:54.000
the latest give me bad chills
0:25:51.039,0:25:56.000
yeah so when i say i hope to do it right
0:25:54.000,0:25:58.159
it includes getting the right director
0:25:56.000,0:25:59.840
for it oh absolutely absolutely and you
0:25:58.159,0:26:02.320
know with giant freaking robot
0:25:59.840,0:26:02.960
announcing it maybe jj abrams comes back
0:26:02.320,0:26:06.080
to do it
0:26:02.960,0:26:07.760
maybe because you know he did a pretty
0:26:06.080,0:26:10.960
good job at force awakens
0:26:07.760,0:26:13.039
and he did an acceptable
0:26:10.960,0:26:14.559
job trying to resurrect that steaming
0:26:13.039,0:26:16.480
pile of minorities well
0:26:14.559,0:26:17.919
ryan johnson exactly and that’s the
0:26:16.480,0:26:21.039
thing you know
0:26:17.919,0:26:24.240
you can’t fault
0:26:21.039,0:26:24.960
jj for too much because he was basically
0:26:24.240,0:26:26.640
trying to fix
0:26:24.960,0:26:28.640
everything he was handed a disaster and
0:26:26.640,0:26:31.279
i was told to fix it yeah it was like
0:26:28.640,0:26:31.840
here’s all these broken pieces that i
0:26:31.279,0:26:34.880
did
0:26:31.840,0:26:38.960
even though you handed me
0:26:34.880,0:26:38.960
you know and that’s great that was the
0:26:39.279,0:26:42.480
you know he did a certainly an
0:26:40.799,0:26:44.720
acceptable job it was it was a lot of
0:26:42.480,0:26:45.520
fan service and force awakens yeah oh
0:26:44.720,0:26:48.080
absolutely
0:26:45.520,0:26:50.000
but he set the tone and there was a path
0:26:48.080,0:26:50.840
moving forward and then johnson came in
0:26:50.000,0:26:53.840
and just
0:26:50.840,0:26:53.840
literally
0:26:54.720,0:26:58.880
you know i mean that’s exactly what he
0:26:56.720,0:27:00.240
did with with what jj abrams did and j.j
0:26:58.880,0:27:01.760
abrams had to come back in and pick the
0:27:00.240,0:27:02.320
lightsaber up and try to put things back
0:27:01.760,0:27:04.480
together
0:27:02.320,0:27:06.400
right and get all his kyber crystals and
0:27:04.480,0:27:08.320
put them back together i’ll see
0:27:06.400,0:27:10.320
look at that you dropping all those big
0:27:08.320,0:27:12.960
words there see
0:27:10.320,0:27:16.880
so let’s see i’m awesome let’s talk
0:27:12.960,0:27:16.880
about the ewok village of the dam
0:27:17.360,0:27:22.559
so the beautiful forest moon of endor is
0:27:20.559,0:27:23.919
coming our way with the release of the
0:27:22.559,0:27:27.120
ewok shows
0:27:23.919,0:27:29.520
and movies that dominated the 1980s
0:27:27.120,0:27:31.279
in a release from disney on their april
0:27:29.520,0:27:34.240
disney plus editions
0:27:31.279,0:27:35.360
we learned that star wars ewok season 1
0:27:34.240,0:27:38.320
and 2
0:27:35.360,0:27:39.760
ewoks the battle of endor and the
0:27:38.320,0:27:43.760
beautiful
0:27:39.760,0:27:43.760
and the story of the faithful wookie
0:27:44.000,0:27:47.200
are all headed to the streaming platform
0:27:46.480,0:27:51.120
on
0:27:47.200,0:27:52.000
uh april 2nd um so why is this so
0:27:51.120,0:27:54.399
excited
0:27:52.000,0:27:56.000
well mainly because for decades star
0:27:54.399,0:27:58.320
wars fans who had only heard
0:27:56.000,0:27:59.440
legends of these shows and movies are
0:27:58.320,0:28:01.600
now gonna actually
0:27:59.440,0:28:03.279
get to watch them you know kind of like
0:28:01.600,0:28:05.840
the holiday special
0:28:03.279,0:28:06.399
which thankfully they’re not going to be
0:28:05.840,0:28:09.679
putting
0:28:06.399,0:28:12.080
on the streaming service um so these
0:28:09.679,0:28:14.320
have been kind of hard to find and you
0:28:12.080,0:28:15.520
know forgotten stories you know in most
0:28:14.320,0:28:17.200
cases
0:28:15.520,0:28:18.640
and with the story of the faithful
0:28:17.200,0:28:21.919
wookie that’s
0:28:18.640,0:28:24.159
currently only the bit of the um
0:28:21.919,0:28:26.080
that the that was part of the holiday
0:28:24.159,0:28:28.080
special or that kind of led to
0:28:26.080,0:28:29.120
you know the the what the holiday
0:28:28.080,0:28:32.159
special was
0:28:29.120,0:28:34.399
um you know so obviously this will be
0:28:32.159,0:28:36.640
kind of interesting for for people that
0:28:34.399,0:28:39.679
have never seen or never heard of it
0:28:36.640,0:28:42.559
to to watch um so
0:28:39.679,0:28:46.240
obviously as most people know the ewok
0:28:42.559,0:28:49.200
adventures are not part of disney canon
0:28:46.240,0:28:51.520
and much like the extended universe the
0:28:49.200,0:28:52.960
disney acquisition essentially erased
0:28:51.520,0:28:55.440
anything that wasn’t
0:28:52.960,0:28:57.200
the live-action movies and the clone
0:28:55.440,0:28:59.520
wars however that doesn’t mean that the
0:28:57.200,0:29:00.720
ewoks will forever be erased from star
0:28:59.520,0:29:02.799
wars lore
0:29:00.720,0:29:05.120
with them coming to disney plus we could
0:29:02.799,0:29:07.279
see maybe more of a connection in the
0:29:05.120,0:29:09.440
live-action world or a shift
0:29:07.279,0:29:11.679
as some characters have made the leap
0:29:09.440,0:29:14.880
from the animated or novel world
0:29:11.679,0:29:16.880
which shows like the mandalorian so
0:29:14.880,0:29:18.320
you know now we’ll be able to see
0:29:16.880,0:29:20.320
warwick davis
0:29:18.320,0:29:21.360
uh you know when he was a little younger
0:29:20.320,0:29:23.279
not that you can actually
0:29:21.360,0:29:24.640
tell that it’s him but you’ll be able to
0:29:23.279,0:29:26.799
see wicket um
0:29:24.640,0:29:29.840
you know in all of his little adventures
0:29:26.799,0:29:33.600
uh starting april 2nd on disney plus
0:29:29.840,0:29:36.799
so just for the record these weren’t
0:29:33.600,0:29:38.480
that good no they they weren’t they were
0:29:36.799,0:29:41.440
slightly above
0:29:38.480,0:29:42.559
the holiday special right but that
0:29:41.440,0:29:45.520
doesn’t mean we shouldn’t bring the
0:29:42.559,0:29:48.320
holiday special back
0:29:45.520,0:29:49.279
what i like about these is it’s
0:29:48.320,0:29:51.840
nostalgia
0:29:49.279,0:29:53.679
right you know these were after return
0:29:51.840,0:29:56.159
of the jedi
0:29:53.679,0:29:57.120
this was all you had and started right
0:29:56.159,0:30:00.159
you didn’t get
0:29:57.120,0:30:01.840
anything else until phantom menace well
0:30:00.159,0:30:04.080
until
0:30:01.840,0:30:05.120
until shadows of the empire came out you
0:30:04.080,0:30:06.960
got the novels and
0:30:05.120,0:30:08.159
and the video games around that but it
0:30:06.960,0:30:09.520
never turned into a
0:30:08.159,0:30:11.840
movie franchise right so if you’re
0:30:09.520,0:30:14.159
looking for entertainment
0:30:11.840,0:30:16.559
movie or television right this is what
0:30:14.159,0:30:19.760
you had so you had this you had droids
0:30:16.559,0:30:21.520
uh caravana carriage all that stuff
0:30:19.760,0:30:23.360
so it’s kind of neat to see them bring
0:30:21.520,0:30:26.799
that stuff back
0:30:23.360,0:30:30.320
um i’m glad they’re not making it cannon
0:30:26.799,0:30:33.039
um because there’s a lot of holes
0:30:30.320,0:30:35.039
plot holes in there um but just for the
0:30:33.039,0:30:36.559
sake of nostalgia the kids that grew up
0:30:35.039,0:30:37.120
with this stuff we get to share it with
0:30:36.559,0:30:39.120
our kids
0:30:37.120,0:30:40.799
right and and that’s one of the things
0:30:39.120,0:30:44.159
if you see
0:30:40.799,0:30:47.279
and if you do any research
0:30:44.159,0:30:49.919
what is you know trending on
0:30:47.279,0:30:51.200
various streaming services in a lot of
0:30:49.919,0:30:54.320
cases there’s
0:30:51.200,0:30:57.120
that nostalgic show from
0:30:54.320,0:30:58.880
you know i’ll be honest i have these
0:30:57.120,0:31:00.559
right you know i have these on my media
0:30:58.880,0:31:01.919
center right now so if i wanted to i
0:31:00.559,0:31:04.720
could go watch them right now
0:31:01.919,0:31:05.760
right but not everybody does i have not
0:31:04.720,0:31:08.000
watched them
0:31:05.760,0:31:09.519
since i got them i got them for the sake
0:31:08.000,0:31:12.559
of having them okay
0:31:09.519,0:31:14.640
um i’m not gonna run out and watch these
0:31:12.559,0:31:16.000
on streaming services either probably
0:31:14.640,0:31:16.840
is this gonna be one of those things i
0:31:16.000,0:31:18.320
have to watch at eight this is an eight
0:31:16.840,0:31:21.039
o’clock
0:31:18.320,0:31:21.519
you know date night with the daughter oh
0:31:21.039,0:31:23.679
something
0:31:21.519,0:31:25.360
you’re you’re not going to join us but
0:31:23.679,0:31:26.240
you know what at least she gets to
0:31:25.360,0:31:28.880
experience it
0:31:26.240,0:31:29.679
true which is nice kind of a little feel
0:31:28.880,0:31:32.559
good
0:31:29.679,0:31:34.399
there yeah so but that was all we had
0:31:32.559,0:31:35.600
for our tales from the edge of the
0:31:34.399,0:31:37.279
galaxy
0:31:35.600,0:31:38.720
we’re gonna take a quick break and we’ll
0:31:37.279,0:31:47.840
be right back with our

0:33:05.200,0:33:08.840

0:33:06.640,0:33:10.159
you ring the bell the dog barks or
0:33:08.840,0:33:13.279
something or
0:33:10.159,0:33:16.080
whatever so hey anybody want to
0:33:13.279,0:33:17.600

0:33:36.000,0:33:39.840
to check out the park and the inventory
0:33:38.080,0:33:42.799
ahead of the public auction
0:33:39.840,0:33:45.120
uh that was for uh this week uh
0:33:42.799,0:33:47.840
jersey.com reported that the park
0:33:45.120,0:33:48.720
has almost 400 items on its inventory
0:33:47.840,0:33:53.360
including a
0:33:48.720,0:33:57.120

0:33:53.360,0:33:58.159
loop ride a ferris wheel a train system
0:33:57.120,0:34:01.200
complete with
0:33:58.159,0:34:04.240
cooled propane engine rail system
0:34:01.200,0:34:06.320
and three 18 foot long cars
0:34:04.240,0:34:07.840
capital recovery group first announced
0:34:06.320,0:34:09.359
that it was putting the park up for
0:34:07.840,0:34:11.280
auction in february
0:34:09.359,0:34:13.119
and according to that announcement the
0:34:11.280,0:34:15.520
22-acre theme park
0:34:13.119,0:34:16.879
will be auctioned off in its entirety or
0:34:15.520,0:34:19.440
will be sold as land
0:34:16.879,0:34:20.079
equipment rides buildings and liquor
0:34:19.440,0:34:23.280
license
0:34:20.079,0:34:24.320
in pieces the president of the company
0:34:23.280,0:34:26.399
had said we were
0:34:24.320,0:34:28.320
are actively seeking a buyer for this
0:34:26.399,0:34:29.359
iconic park located outside of
0:34:28.320,0:34:31.839
philadelphia
0:34:29.359,0:34:32.639
and expect significant interest in this
0:34:31.839,0:34:35.679
auction
0:34:32.639,0:34:38.639
the property includes a 25-acre lake
0:34:35.679,0:34:40.320
dam amusement rides a water park and a
0:34:38.639,0:34:42.240
full liquor license
0:34:40.320,0:34:43.760
according to their website the property
0:34:42.240,0:34:47.760
is being promoted as a
0:34:43.760,0:34:51.440
turnkey or development opportunity
0:34:47.760,0:34:54.399
the vice president of crg had told
0:34:51.440,0:34:55.520
uh nj.com that there is plenty of
0:34:54.399,0:34:58.480
interest in the park
0:34:55.520,0:34:59.280
he said uh we have a lot of interest in
0:34:58.480,0:35:01.520
the rides
0:34:59.280,0:35:03.920
and smaller items there have been people
0:35:01.520,0:35:06.800
who talk about reopening it
0:35:03.920,0:35:08.079
and others are talking about uh other
0:35:06.800,0:35:10.320
development
0:35:08.079,0:35:12.160
opportunities he said i’ve taken a
0:35:10.320,0:35:13.119
tremendous amount of calls so we’ll wait
0:35:12.160,0:35:15.320
and see
0:35:13.119,0:35:16.480
clementine park was actually founded in
0:35:15.320,0:35:18.720
1907
0:35:16.480,0:35:21.280
and added its water park in the later
0:35:18.720,0:35:21.760
years the amusement park actually closed
0:35:21.280,0:35:25.040
in
0:35:21.760,0:35:27.280
uh september of 2019. according to new
0:35:25.040,0:35:30.160
jersey.com clementine park was assessed
0:35:27.280,0:35:33.050
at 4.25 million dollars
0:35:30.160,0:35:36.320
in 2019 yeah
0:35:33.050,0:35:38.240
[Laughter]
0:35:36.320,0:35:40.640
i’m not sure where the value is other
0:35:38.240,0:35:42.640
than maybe in land the land
0:35:40.640,0:35:44.880
you think you know and again we talk
0:35:42.640,0:35:47.920
about nostalgia a lot on this show
0:35:44.880,0:35:49.920
and i spent a number of summers
0:35:47.920,0:35:52.240
going to clement park as a kid that was
0:35:49.920,0:35:55.119
what the attraction was down here
0:35:52.240,0:35:55.599
you know up up further up in jackson we
0:35:55.119,0:35:58.000
have
0:35:55.599,0:36:00.160
six flags right which is where my
0:35:58.000,0:36:02.800
hometown was and where i actually
0:36:00.160,0:36:04.000
worked for many a summer and what uh
0:36:02.800,0:36:06.640
what’s a dorney park
0:36:04.000,0:36:08.720
dorney park is out uh in the lehigh
0:36:06.640,0:36:11.119
valley area so there’s a number of
0:36:08.720,0:36:12.480
of or you have hershey park you have
0:36:11.119,0:36:13.680
hershey park out there there’s a number
0:36:12.480,0:36:15.280
of amusement parks and then they have
0:36:13.680,0:36:16.400
the shore and all the attractions down
0:36:15.280,0:36:19.760
right there right
0:36:16.400,0:36:20.640
um but and i’ll i’ll say it again you
0:36:19.760,0:36:23.839
know i didn’t
0:36:20.640,0:36:26.560
my family did not have means
0:36:23.839,0:36:28.480
when we were when i was younger so that
0:36:26.560,0:36:30.160
was the alternative that we went to and
0:36:28.480,0:36:32.000
that was that was the
0:36:30.160,0:36:33.200
inexpensive alternative that a lot of
0:36:32.000,0:36:36.400
kids right
0:36:33.200,0:36:38.720
wound up going to um
0:36:36.400,0:36:39.599
for the longest time it boasted the
0:36:38.720,0:36:41.280
oldest
0:36:39.599,0:36:42.720
wooden roller coaster in new jersey
0:36:41.280,0:36:44.160
which i’m not really sure you want to
0:36:42.720,0:36:46.720
boast about
0:36:44.160,0:36:47.359
uh i had written not the roller coasters
0:36:46.720,0:36:49.839
that are
0:36:47.359,0:36:50.960
pictured on the on the image we have
0:36:49.839,0:36:52.800
here but
0:36:50.960,0:36:54.079
they had torn down the the wooden one
0:36:52.800,0:36:57.119
years ago
0:36:54.079,0:36:57.760
but i had ridden that one oh i don’t
0:36:57.119,0:37:01.200
know
0:36:57.760,0:37:03.520
25 years ago and it was terrifying to
0:37:01.200,0:37:05.359
ride not because it was a really scary
0:37:03.520,0:37:06.720
roller coaster but because you didn’t
0:37:05.359,0:37:08.160
know if it was gonna fall apart while
0:37:06.720,0:37:11.280
you were riding it yeah
0:37:08.160,0:37:14.480
yeah uh so it made for an interesting
0:37:11.280,0:37:18.240
uh if not scary ride for that reason
0:37:14.480,0:37:20.720
and and we were there right what
0:37:18.240,0:37:22.079
six years ago maybe longer than that
0:37:20.720,0:37:24.480
longer than that because
0:37:22.079,0:37:25.359
maddie was probably only like two or
0:37:24.480,0:37:27.520
three
0:37:25.359,0:37:28.560
so it was probably 12 years ago yeah you
0:37:27.520,0:37:30.800
were there yeah
0:37:28.560,0:37:33.119
and it was a ghost town to call it an
0:37:30.800,0:37:35.119
amusement park was just an insult
0:37:33.119,0:37:37.520
to amusement and the first time that i
0:37:35.119,0:37:39.839
had ever gone was actually
0:37:37.520,0:37:41.119
with a company picnic now it wasn’t my
0:37:39.839,0:37:44.320
company i was going as
0:37:41.119,0:37:45.839
a guest and it was kind of surprising
0:37:44.320,0:37:49.200
because the company
0:37:45.839,0:37:53.359
that you know used this as their
0:37:49.200,0:37:54.079
um uh company picnic it was just kind of
0:37:53.359,0:37:56.880
like
0:37:54.079,0:37:57.359
did did you guys even come here first
0:37:56.880,0:37:59.040
you could
0:37:57.359,0:38:00.880
you could have a company picnic they
0:37:59.040,0:38:03.119
definitely had picnic tables right and
0:38:00.880,0:38:04.000
well no because at the time when we hit
0:38:03.119,0:38:06.400
really only
0:38:04.000,0:38:07.040
well no because that was kind of the
0:38:06.400,0:38:10.560
thing
0:38:07.040,0:38:13.920
because your clientele was either
0:38:10.560,0:38:16.400
really mostly the water park right
0:38:13.920,0:38:17.760
or company the thing what really
0:38:16.400,0:38:19.440
revitalized this
0:38:17.760,0:38:21.040
was when they put the water apart
0:38:19.440,0:38:21.839
absolutely what was that like the late
0:38:21.040,0:38:24.079
90s earlier
0:38:21.839,0:38:26.160
something like that yeah but what was
0:38:24.079,0:38:27.760
funny was where most
0:38:26.160,0:38:29.520
amusement parks or whatever if there’s a
0:38:27.760,0:38:30.720
company picnic everybody kind of goes
0:38:29.520,0:38:32.880
through the main entrance
0:38:30.720,0:38:34.400
well they actually at the time that i
0:38:32.880,0:38:37.359
had gone to this company picnic
0:38:34.400,0:38:39.119
they actually had a separate entrance
0:38:37.359,0:38:40.640
just for company picnics
0:38:39.119,0:38:43.359
yeah so you kind of parked around the
0:38:40.640,0:38:44.800
back and you went in so you didn’t even
0:38:43.359,0:38:46.720
so if you were going for the company
0:38:44.800,0:38:48.720
picnic you didn’t even have to go
0:38:46.720,0:38:50.079
through the park and of course they had
0:38:48.720,0:38:51.680
the liquor license so
0:38:50.079,0:38:53.520
as soon as you got to your pavilion
0:38:51.680,0:38:56.079
here’s your big old keg of beer
0:38:53.520,0:38:56.960
and that’s where everybody hung out so
0:38:56.079,0:38:59.359
most of the people
0:38:56.960,0:39:00.640
just kind of went to go eat and drink
0:38:59.359,0:39:03.680
and left
0:39:00.640,0:39:05.920
where then you had again the the group
0:39:03.680,0:39:07.200
that would go over to you know the water
0:39:05.920,0:39:10.560
park but then again
0:39:07.200,0:39:13.680
the the amusement park was open
0:39:10.560,0:39:14.480
you know into the fall opened up in the
0:39:13.680,0:39:16.640
you know
0:39:14.480,0:39:17.599
late spring so the water park wasn’t
0:39:16.640,0:39:20.000
always open
0:39:17.599,0:39:21.440
so if you happen to go during you know
0:39:20.000,0:39:24.079
the dead of summer
0:39:21.440,0:39:25.520
the park might not be as crowded because
0:39:24.079,0:39:27.440
everybody was over at the well
0:39:25.520,0:39:28.960
and in reality what’s likely to happen
0:39:27.440,0:39:30.400
is they’ll tear all the rides down
0:39:28.960,0:39:32.320
they’ll probably sell the newer roller
0:39:30.400,0:39:34.400
coasters off to another amusement park
0:39:32.320,0:39:36.880
right and they’ll redevelop it you’ll
0:39:34.400,0:39:38.000
get townhouses you’ll get condos and
0:39:36.880,0:39:41.359
you’ll get
0:39:38.000,0:39:45.200
you know the the emergency medical
0:39:41.359,0:39:46.640
you know urgent care and probably a cvs
0:39:45.200,0:39:48.480
probably i mean that’s really what you
0:39:46.640,0:39:49.359
have the lake too so i wonder how
0:39:48.480,0:39:51.200
they’re gonna
0:39:49.359,0:39:52.480
you know and the dam don’t forget about
0:39:51.200,0:39:55.119
that and the dam
0:39:52.480,0:39:55.599
that that uh the dam is part of it so
0:39:55.119,0:39:59.119
you know
0:39:55.599,0:39:59.599
maybe you put in a a housing community
0:39:59.119,0:40:00.880
or something
0:39:59.599,0:40:02.640
and that’s why i think they’re going to
0:40:00.880,0:40:04.240
sell sell it from waterfront
0:40:02.640,0:40:05.680
property there you put a proper knot in
0:40:04.240,0:40:07.200
there or something like that you turn it
0:40:05.680,0:40:08.720
into commercial mixed commercial
0:40:07.200,0:40:10.400
residential
0:40:08.720,0:40:11.760
um that’s probably the most likely thing
0:40:10.400,0:40:12.400
because of all the development going on
0:40:11.760,0:40:15.440
in the area
0:40:12.400,0:40:16.560
yeah yeah so i i don’t hold out hope
0:40:15.440,0:40:17.760
that it’s going to come back as an
0:40:16.560,0:40:19.839
amusement park but
0:40:17.760,0:40:20.880
you know for the nostalgic part of me
0:40:19.839,0:40:23.920
wishes that it would
0:40:20.880,0:40:24.400
yeah so let’s let’s talk about living
0:40:23.920,0:40:27.520
long
0:40:24.400,0:40:29.359
and prosper so boston is pla paying a
0:40:27.520,0:40:31.760
special tribute to actor
0:40:29.359,0:40:33.599
leonard nimoy who would have turned 90
0:40:31.760,0:40:35.599
years old later this month
0:40:33.599,0:40:37.520
mayor marty walsh is declaring his
0:40:35.599,0:40:40.720
birthday march 26th
0:40:37.520,0:40:44.880
to be leonard nimoy day in the city
0:40:40.720,0:40:47.839
uh nimoy who died in 2015 was a boston
0:40:44.880,0:40:48.240
west and uh was born in boston’s west
0:40:47.839,0:40:50.640
end
0:40:48.240,0:40:52.480
neighborhood neighborhood uh he’ll
0:40:50.640,0:40:53.119
always be remembered for portraying the
0:40:52.480,0:40:55.520
logical
0:40:53.119,0:40:58.000
pointy-eared spock in star trek and
0:40:55.520,0:41:01.359
embracing the vulcan’s character’s
0:40:58.000,0:41:02.960
live long and prosper motto um walsh
0:41:01.359,0:41:05.440
wrote that nimoy
0:41:02.960,0:41:06.960
brought honor upon his native city with
0:41:05.440,0:41:09.280
his accompli
0:41:06.960,0:41:12.319
accomplishments and gave the immigrant
0:41:09.280,0:41:16.640
the refugee and the oppressed a hero
0:41:12.319,0:41:19.440
for the outsider he said i encourage all
0:41:16.640,0:41:20.079
bostonians to recognize leonard nimoy’s
0:41:19.440,0:41:22.240
commitment
0:41:20.079,0:41:24.240
and dedication to the arts and the
0:41:22.240,0:41:25.599
lasting impact that is left on the
0:41:24.240,0:41:27.760
community
0:41:25.599,0:41:30.880
nimoy’s daughter julie had shared the
0:41:27.760,0:41:32.720
news of the proclamation on social media
0:41:30.880,0:41:34.400
and had posted on twitter as a special
0:41:32.720,0:41:37.599
tribute to dad’s life
0:41:34.400,0:41:39.200
the legacy and uh the legacy the city of
0:41:37.599,0:41:39.839
boston just announced that on his
0:41:39.200,0:41:43.200
birthday
0:41:39.839,0:41:43.599
3 26 will officially be leonard nimoy
0:41:43.200,0:41:45.200
day
0:41:43.599,0:41:47.839
thank you mayor marty walsh for
0:41:45.200,0:41:50.319
supporting this proclamation
0:41:47.839,0:41:52.400
now just as a side note boston
0:41:50.319,0:41:57.119
university had actually awarded
0:41:52.400,0:41:59.440
nimoy an honorary degree back in 2012.
0:41:57.119,0:42:00.640
oh that’s cool and you know he was
0:41:59.440,0:42:01.200
probably one of the biggest trend
0:42:00.640,0:42:04.480
setters
0:42:01.200,0:42:07.760
of the time you know he took a role that
0:42:04.480,0:42:10.240
was controversial that was unique
0:42:07.760,0:42:12.880
um but even outside of star trek he had
0:42:10.240,0:42:13.280
such a fantastic career before star trek
0:42:12.880,0:42:16.319
and
0:42:13.280,0:42:18.560
and after star trek so
0:42:16.319,0:42:20.640
definitely a well-accomplished and you
0:42:18.560,0:42:24.000
know a well-deserved honor
0:42:20.640,0:42:25.359
you know posthumously awarded so so
0:42:24.000,0:42:27.920
that was all we had for our
0:42:25.359,0:42:29.990
entertainment news we will be
0:42:27.920,0:42:32.000
right back with our
0:42:29.990,0:42:33.839
[Music]
0:42:32.000,0:42:36.000
insightful pics of the i clicked off my
0:42:33.839,0:42:38.640
one monitor so i’m
0:42:36.000,0:42:40.960
[ __ ] fuzzled now oh geez we’ll be
0:42:38.640,0:42:44.830
right back with our insightful picks of
0:42:40.960,0:42:47.200
the week
0:42:44.830,0:42:50.079
[Applause]
0:42:47.200,0:42:51.760
go for your insightful pick so my
0:42:50.079,0:42:55.599
insightful pick of the week
0:42:51.760,0:42:58.960
is a documentary called the last
0:42:55.599,0:43:00.640
blockbuster um i actually just kind of
0:42:58.960,0:43:03.680
happened to find it on
0:43:00.640,0:43:05.920
netflix i had kind of knew
0:43:03.680,0:43:07.440
some of the the story behind it but it
0:43:05.920,0:43:10.319
was a very interesting
0:43:07.440,0:43:11.119
look uh you know behind the scenes of
0:43:10.319,0:43:13.680
everything so
0:43:11.119,0:43:15.200
this nostalgic documentary reveals the
0:43:13.680,0:43:18.160
real story
0:43:15.200,0:43:19.839
of blockbuster’s demise and how one last
0:43:18.160,0:43:23.119
location in oregon
0:43:19.839,0:43:24.880
keeps the spirit of a bygone era alive
0:43:23.119,0:43:26.319
the documentary tells the story of
0:43:24.880,0:43:29.599
blockbuster video
0:43:26.319,0:43:32.560
the video rental business and
0:43:29.599,0:43:32.880
explores how the video rental company
0:43:32.560,0:43:35.280
put
0:43:32.880,0:43:36.079
independent video rental stores out of
0:43:35.280,0:43:39.040
business
0:43:36.079,0:43:40.880
by striking deals with the film studios
0:43:39.040,0:43:43.760
and how these deals
0:43:40.880,0:43:46.160
um you know were known as revenue share
0:43:43.760,0:43:48.720
deals and allowed blockbuster to
0:43:46.160,0:43:49.599
negotiate lower prices than their local
0:43:48.720,0:43:52.240
counterparts
0:43:49.599,0:43:52.800
in exchange for a cut of the rental fees
0:43:52.240,0:43:55.680
um
0:43:52.800,0:43:57.839
the film follows sandy harding uh who is
0:43:55.680,0:44:00.560
the general manager of the last store
0:43:57.839,0:44:02.400
over a course of a couple of years um
0:44:00.560,0:44:03.280
and then there are various actors that
0:44:02.400,0:44:05.520
kind of
0:44:03.280,0:44:06.640
um give their input throughout so you
0:44:05.520,0:44:08.960
have kevin smith
0:44:06.640,0:44:10.079
you know talking about the business um
0:44:08.960,0:44:12.640
and then other
0:44:10.079,0:44:13.599
um interviews with other celebrities uh
0:44:12.640,0:44:17.599
adam brody
0:44:13.599,0:44:19.599
sam levin um uh doug benson
0:44:17.599,0:44:21.440
uh you know a whole bunch of different
0:44:19.599,0:44:23.280
people kind of come in and out
0:44:21.440,0:44:24.880
and actually what’s kind of cool is you
0:44:23.280,0:44:27.760
know at one point one of them
0:44:24.880,0:44:29.520
actually goes and visits the location so
0:44:27.760,0:44:31.200
it’s really interesting to kind of see
0:44:29.520,0:44:32.720
because when the documentary when they
0:44:31.200,0:44:36.160
started filming this
0:44:32.720,0:44:38.880
there were 18 locations still
0:44:36.160,0:44:40.400
operating you know in the united states
0:44:38.880,0:44:41.359
and then the following year it was down
0:44:40.400,0:44:43.839
to four
0:44:41.359,0:44:45.119
with three of them being in alaska which
0:44:43.839,0:44:47.839
was kind of funny
0:44:45.119,0:44:49.200
and one being in in oregon and then the
0:44:47.839,0:44:52.960
last three
0:44:49.200,0:44:56.160
in uh alaska closed
0:44:52.960,0:44:56.720
and you know here’s this last one in
0:44:56.160,0:44:59.119
oregon
0:44:56.720,0:45:00.160
and you know up until the very end of
0:44:59.119,0:45:01.760
the the movie
0:45:00.160,0:45:04.480
the documentary you don’t know if
0:45:01.760,0:45:06.480
they’re going to survive or not
0:45:04.480,0:45:08.720
um so it was just really well done and
0:45:06.480,0:45:10.880
and you know for
0:45:08.720,0:45:12.079
you know people of our ages that unders
0:45:10.880,0:45:15.119
you know that remember
0:45:12.079,0:45:17.359
going to the video rental
0:45:15.119,0:45:19.440
you know stores and and picking up your
0:45:17.359,0:45:21.280
movie on a friday night and you know
0:45:19.440,0:45:22.720
walking around for an hour trying to
0:45:21.280,0:45:24.880
figure out what you’re gonna
0:45:22.720,0:45:26.560
you know watch it it’s again it’s that
0:45:24.880,0:45:30.000
whole nostalgia
0:45:26.560,0:45:32.560
of it um and you know it’s it’s
0:45:30.000,0:45:35.280
it’s funny to see what you know sandy
0:45:32.560,0:45:38.240
does to kind of keep the business going
0:45:35.280,0:45:40.560
and she’s still maintaining it you know
0:45:38.240,0:45:43.040
to this day and she put so much
0:45:40.560,0:45:44.000
heart in it and i think that’s you know
0:45:43.040,0:45:45.920
you know you see
0:45:44.000,0:45:47.440
it’s not just about video rental it’s
0:45:45.920,0:45:50.160
the customer service it’s the
0:45:47.440,0:45:51.119
the you know the interaction uh that she
0:45:50.160,0:45:53.599
has with
0:45:51.119,0:45:55.680
with the public and that’s what you know
0:45:53.599,0:45:58.079
keeps it going so it’s good to see
0:45:55.680,0:45:59.119
that you know in even though it’s a
0:45:58.079,0:46:01.760
corporate
0:45:59.119,0:46:02.240
entity it’s really a mom-and-pop you
0:46:01.760,0:46:05.440
know
0:46:02.240,0:46:08.650
uh business you know these days so
0:46:05.440,0:46:12.640
cool nice pack thanks
0:46:08.650,0:46:14.720
[Applause]
0:46:12.640,0:46:16.720
so my pick this week as i said is a
0:46:14.720,0:46:18.640
little off the wall so before
0:46:16.720,0:46:21.040
before i get into it i have to kind of
0:46:18.640,0:46:24.560
set it up so i am one of those
0:46:21.040,0:46:26.960
idiots uh that around christmas time
0:46:24.560,0:46:29.119
sat online and clicked refresh a million
0:46:26.960,0:46:29.760
times so i could buy a next generation
0:46:29.119,0:46:32.800
console
0:46:29.760,0:46:33.119
okay i had to settle for an xbox series
0:46:32.800,0:46:35.920
s
0:46:33.119,0:46:37.040
not an x uh but one of the things that i
0:46:35.920,0:46:40.400
did do was i
0:46:37.040,0:46:43.599
uh had subscribed to the xbox
0:46:40.400,0:46:45.280
game pass ultimate which on the console
0:46:43.599,0:46:48.400
the ultimate gives you
0:46:45.280,0:46:50.400
access to a bunch of available video
0:46:48.400,0:46:51.359
games and so forth in your xbox gold and
0:46:50.400,0:46:53.119
all that
0:46:51.359,0:46:55.359
but what it also gave you on the console
0:46:53.119,0:46:57.839
was ea play which is all of
0:46:55.359,0:46:58.800
ea’s library of games that you can
0:46:57.839,0:47:00.800
download and play
0:46:58.800,0:47:02.480
over and over without paying for them
0:47:00.800,0:47:04.960
individually
0:47:02.480,0:47:06.000
now at the time that i had subscribed
0:47:04.960,0:47:09.119
they were
0:47:06.000,0:47:11.520
supposed to be releasing now i bought it
0:47:09.119,0:47:13.680
bought the console early december uh and
0:47:11.520,0:47:16.160
the subscription around the same time
0:47:13.680,0:47:17.440
they were supposed to release ea play
0:47:16.160,0:47:20.079
for pc
0:47:17.440,0:47:21.040
okay on the 18th and they delayed and
0:47:20.079,0:47:23.040
then they were going to release in
0:47:21.040,0:47:26.319
february and they delayed and then
0:47:23.040,0:47:29.040
over and over they delete well i’m happy
0:47:26.319,0:47:32.079
to report that ea play is now available
0:47:29.040,0:47:34.079
for xbox game pass for pc and for
0:47:32.079,0:47:37.119
console
0:47:34.079,0:47:40.240
for ultimate members um
0:47:37.119,0:47:43.440
it’s been available since uh november on
0:47:40.240,0:47:46.240
uh consoles but just recently it opened
0:47:43.440,0:47:49.520
up for beta use on the pcs
0:47:46.240,0:47:50.319
um through the ea desktop app which you
0:47:49.520,0:47:53.599
download
0:47:50.319,0:47:55.839
and uh set up on your pc
0:47:53.599,0:47:58.079
uh the next generation pc platform
0:47:55.839,0:48:00.880
that’s currently in open beta
0:47:58.079,0:48:03.359
and the xbox app on windows 10 members
0:48:00.880,0:48:05.920
will receive access to ea play
0:48:03.359,0:48:06.960
and get exclusive in-game challenges and
0:48:05.920,0:48:09.119
rewards
0:48:06.960,0:48:10.319
a collection of outstanding games in the
0:48:09.119,0:48:13.200
playlist
0:48:10.319,0:48:14.400
as well as discounts on purchases of ea
0:48:13.200,0:48:17.440
digital content
0:48:14.400,0:48:20.319
and trial access to full versions
0:48:17.440,0:48:21.119
of the select new releases now i’m
0:48:20.319,0:48:23.920
paying i think
0:48:21.119,0:48:25.359
14 a month for the ultimate okay gives
0:48:23.920,0:48:28.480
me ea game pass
0:48:25.359,0:48:30.720
and xbox game pass or ea playing xbox
0:48:28.480,0:48:33.200
game pass on both platforms
0:48:30.720,0:48:34.160
there are certain games that they just
0:48:33.200,0:48:36.240
run better on
0:48:34.160,0:48:38.160
on a pc you know there are games that
0:48:36.240,0:48:42.800
are graphic intensive
0:48:38.160,0:48:44.160
that a gaming pc just works better
0:48:42.800,0:48:46.160
for instance one of the games that i
0:48:44.160,0:48:48.319
play is battlefield 5. i’ve been playing
0:48:46.160,0:48:51.040
that a lot on console
0:48:48.319,0:48:52.720
and it’s okay you know it’s it plays
0:48:51.040,0:48:55.280
well but
0:48:52.720,0:48:56.240
you know i play it on a 65 inch tv
0:48:55.280,0:48:58.480
downstairs
0:48:56.240,0:49:00.720
but it’s a single screen okay well the
0:48:58.480,0:49:03.119
first thing i downloaded was
0:49:00.720,0:49:04.880
battlefield 5 to try it out so i have it
0:49:03.119,0:49:08.000
with my gaming headset on
0:49:04.880,0:49:10.160
i have it on three screens panoramic
0:49:08.000,0:49:13.760
and it’s just a completely different
0:49:10.160,0:49:16.319
experience it’s so immersive on the pc
0:49:13.760,0:49:17.680
you have access to all of the library of
0:49:16.319,0:49:20.880
star wars games the
0:49:17.680,0:49:24.400
original battlefront one and two
0:49:20.880,0:49:26.240
empires uh fallen order you have
0:49:24.400,0:49:28.079
access to all the star wars games if
0:49:26.240,0:49:29.359
you’re a game fan
0:49:28.079,0:49:32.000
and the number of games that you have
0:49:29.359,0:49:33.760
available it’s huge
0:49:32.000,0:49:35.599
and you have the ability to download any
0:49:33.760,0:49:37.040
of these games and play them
0:49:35.599,0:49:38.960
as long as they’re on because they do
0:49:37.040,0:49:40.559
cycle they tend to cycle some of the
0:49:38.960,0:49:42.160
games through there
0:49:40.559,0:49:43.760
but most of the new ones so the new ones
0:49:42.160,0:49:45.520
come out there and you can download the
0:49:43.760,0:49:46.720
new ones and try them out
0:49:45.520,0:49:48.079
if it’s something that you you’re
0:49:46.720,0:49:50.000
enjoying you want to keep playing you
0:49:48.079,0:49:51.680
can buy it and i think it’s a 10
0:49:50.000,0:49:53.680
discount that you get if you buy them
0:49:51.680,0:49:56.880
through uh the ea
0:49:53.680,0:49:59.920
play store so i just got it
0:49:56.880,0:50:02.000
um over the weekend and
0:49:59.920,0:50:03.920
i i have to kick the tires for a little
0:50:02.000,0:50:06.079
bit there but i’m i’m very excited that
0:50:03.920,0:50:09.040
it’s available on pc
0:50:06.079,0:50:10.160
that is ea play for pc now available
0:50:09.040,0:50:13.440
through xbox
0:50:10.160,0:50:16.640
game pass ultimate very cool
0:50:13.440,0:50:16.640
and we’ll be right back
0:50:17.990,0:50:22.880
[Applause]
0:50:20.240,0:50:24.079
so i think that was all we had today i
0:50:22.880,0:50:27.599
think this midweek
0:50:24.079,0:50:29.040
uh podcast went well yep um
0:50:27.599,0:50:31.200

0:50:29.040,0:50:34.240
have our weekends back to ourselves
0:50:31.200,0:50:37.599
uh we still will be releasing them uh
0:50:34.240,0:50:40.720
on the on the um pod
0:50:37.599,0:50:43.040

0:50:40.720,0:50:45.760
monday mornings at eight all this does
0:50:43.040,0:50:49.040
is it buys me more time to do the uh
0:50:45.760,0:50:52.240
post processing for everything right
0:50:49.040,0:50:55.440
