[SEGMENT 1: Disney Detective] (8-12 minutes)
- New Details on the Upcoming Attraction Based on The Princess and the Frog
- https://d23.com/dig-a-little-deeper-with-new-details-on-the-upcoming-attraction-based-on-the-princess-and-the-frog/
- https://bit.ly/3DFKwJq
- Previously we discussed on this podcast Walt Disney Imagineering’s plan to reimagine Splash Mountain at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts
- The intent was to bring new theming inspired by the beloved Walt Disney Animation Studios film The Princess and the Frog to the ride
- Recently the team at D23 (The Official Disney Fan Club) discussed the changes with Bob Weis, president of Walt Disney Imagineering
- The results of that interview were published recently on the clubs web site in an August 23rd post.
- In the talk some of the very first details are revealed about the attraction
- The theme of the new attraction centers around Tiana’s first ever Mardi Gras performance
- So much goes into the creative process behind attractions, including in-depth research to spark inspiration.
- For this upcoming attraction, Imagineers dug deep into the culture of New Orleans—the city Tiana calls home—in order to craft a story authentic to both the region and to the characters.
- So much makes New Orleans a distinct and unique city.
- From food, music, art, architecture, and the diversity of its people and their traditions, there is much from which Imagineers can find inspiration.
- One of the early inspirations was visual artist Sharika Mahdi.
- Mahdi is an art educator and alumna of the renowned YAYA (Young Aspirations Young Artists, Inc.) Arts Center located in New Orleans.
- To help inspire Imagineers, Mahdi was commissioned to create a series of four original paintings to inspire Imagineers.
- The Walt Disney Company recently announced a $50,000 donation to NOCCA (New Orleans Center for Creative Arts)
- NOCCA is a regional, pre-professional arts training center offering students instruction in culinary, dance, media music, theatre, visual and creative writing arts.
- The donation was meant to celebrate the inspiration the region provided for the new attraction, Disney’s love for the city of New Orleans and the company’s commitment to the arts and education
- If you can’t get enough of Princess Tiana, there are so many more exciting ways her story is coming to life in the future including
- The new Disney Cruise Lines ship the Disney Wish setting sail next year with an all-new lounge, “The Bayou”
- And the upcoming Walt Disney Animation Studios original series Tiana on Disney+.
- Disney Will Lose the Rights to Mickey Mouse in 2024, One Company Is Swooping In
- https://insidethemagic.net/2021/08/disney-lose-rights-mickey-mouse-ad1/
- https://bit.ly/3t3gsTg
- When you think of Disney, there are a few iconic images that may come to mind.
- Perhaps a castle, maybe a favorite princess, but one thing that is universally known as Disney is Mickey Mouse.
- From the days of Steamboat Willie, Walt’s debut of his little pal, Mickey Mouse, has been the mascot of Disney.
- Now it seems that Disney is at risk of losing the rights to the character!
- According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The copyright for Walt Disney’s 1928 cartoon Steamboat Willie — which introduced the world to Mickey Mouse — is set to expire and enter the public domain in three years.”
- The rights would include the Mickey Mouse that we saw in the film, which is different from other iterations of the character as time progressed.
- The Hollywood Reporter went on to explain how Disney avoided this happening earlier.
- Disney successfully lobbied Congress to lengthen the number of years that copyrights can be held in 1988.
- The law ended up being called the Copyright Term Extension Act but has also received the name “the Mickey Mouse Protection Act.”
- However, in three years, the rights to Mickey Mouse will end, and Mickey will be up for grabs.
- It seems “Disney’s legal team might succeed in keeping Walt Disney’s famous character and Mouse House mascot from becoming rights-free,” just as others have done with Dracula or Sherlock Holmes.
- If not, however, another company is already ready to “eat [Disney] alive.”
- The Hollywood Reporter announced:
- MSCHF has launched the “X Famous Mouse.”
- The company’s ad copy doesn’t call the token “Mickey Mouse” or use its exact imagery – for now – but it’s a placeholder for the iconic character and comes with a unique ticking clock.
- The idea is you pay for the nondescript mouse-like token today (cost: $100 for one of the 1,000 copies available) and then you receive a physical collectible token for the character that’s redeemable in 2024 – when Disney’s copyright on Mickey Mouse is set to expire.
- At that time, you’ll receive the real deal.
- MSCHF CEO Gabe Whaley is clearly not a fan of Disney as he stated
- “Disney is a massive all-swallowing conglomerate, with a desire for both industry dominance and cultural hegemony.
- It is ever-growing, all-encompassing, risk-averse, and society-blandening.
- We must leap at the chance to take back even the scant morsels available to us.
- At the slightest chance, we must eat them alive.”
- If Disney does gain the rights to Mickey Mouse, his tokens would likely be void.
- The idea of creating the coin while Disney still owns the rights may not have been the best move on Whaley’s part.
- A copyright attorney James Sammataro discussed the situation, and it seems that Disney could have legal grounds to sue MSCHF.
- “It’s difficult to foresee a scenario where [art] of a “not yet in the public domain work” would not give rise to a prospective claim.
- Disney can credibly argue that the inchoate [in-ˈkō-ət] license devalues the current value of its licensing rights by diverting up would-be licensees.”
- It should be noted that even if Disney were to lose the trademark to the original Mickey Mouse, Disney would still own copyrights for later incarnations of the character and Mickey-related trademarks.
- It will take a few years to see what happens with Disney and the original Mickey Mouse!
- When you think of Disney, there are a few iconic images that may come to mind.

[SEGMENT 2: Tales from the Edge of the Galaxy] (8-12 minutes)
- Star Wars Props and Costumes Arrive at the Walt Disney Archives
- https://d23.com/star-wars-props-and-costumes-arrive-at-the-walt-disney-archives/
- https://bit.ly/38vLxFF
- The Walt Disney Archives recently received multiple large trailers full of significant props from the most recent Star Wars films, including The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker, Rogue One, and Solo.
- “The containers are full of costumes, props, and set decorations that were actually used during pre-production and filming, and the vast majority appear on screen,” says Rick Lorentz, acquisitions manager for Walt Disney Archives.
- “Among the collection are a full-size X-wing starfighter, an A-wing, and the cockpit set of the Millennium Falcon.”
- Aside from the films, most of these items have rarely if ever been seen, aside from the occasional Star Wars Celebration or D23 Expo.
- The 2019 D23 Expo featured an impressive retrospective called “The Evolution of the Stormtrooper,” which included the wildly popular Sith stormtrooper featured in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the final film in the Skywalker saga.
- Keeping track of this otherworldly collection and making sure it safely arrives at its new home at the Walt Disney Archives is not an easy task.
- With Dok-Ondar busy tending to his own collectibles and creatures in his Den of Antiquities at Black Spire Outpost, the job of overseeing this collection transition falls on Madlyn Moskowitz, the Lucasfilm collections & exhibitions archivist.
- As custodian of the stolen plans, er… Star Wars props, artifacts, and costumes, Moskowitz is herself also making the journey from a galaxy far, far away to join the Walt Disney Archives.
- “I’m very excited to join,” she says. “I’ll be part of the research team, working directly with Kevin Kern.
- I’ll be a good point of contact for all things Lucasfilm.”
- In addition to the thousands of props already sent to the Archives, all future Lucasfilm live-action productions will likely yield additional treasures for collection.
- But with such a vast and expanding galaxy to explore, how does the Archives team determine what to keep?
- “In deciding what items we collect and preserve, we want to represent the creative process and the story itself,” says Moskowitz.
- She says archivists look at the costumes that represent the main characters or any number of creatures who have been prominently featured in the films or, more recently, on the Disney+ live actions series The Mandalorian.
- “I definitely have an unusual job!” she says.
- But with such a vast and expanding galaxy to explore, how does the Archives team determine what to keep?
- It might seem a gargantuan task to adequately preserve the touchpoints and important props of one of the most significant film franchises in motion picture history, but for now, Moskowitz and the rest of the team are excited to finally bring these items to the Walt Disney Archives.
- Luke’s X-wing.
- The Falcon’s seating area.
- And all those droids!
- Suddenly, they’re not so “far, far away” anymore. And we can’t wait to see them!
- The Walt Disney Archives recently received multiple large trailers full of significant props from the most recent Star Wars films, including The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker, Rogue One, and Solo.

- When the Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian Luke Skywalker special dropped last week, Star Wars fans were in for a treat. (And an Insightful Pick of the Week)
- The installment gave a special behind the scenes look at the making of the Season 2 finale episode, “Chapter 16: The Rescue”, which saw Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker (CGI Mark Hamill) return to the Star Wars universe just after the original trilogy era
- The Mandalorian, for those who don’t know, is set about five years after George Lucas’s Star Wars: Return of the Jedi
- In addition to Hamill comparing the return of his iconic Star Wars character to “James Bond”, one of the most interesting tidbits that was shared in the Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian episode was the fact that “Chapter 16” director Peyton Reed, executive producer Dave Filoni, showrunner Jon Favreau, and others on the production crew developed an elaborate hoax to convince fans that Skywalker wasn’t actually the Jedi coming back to the Star Wars story.
- To accomplish this, they commissioned elaborate concept art featuring fan-favorite prequel trilogy and Star Wars: The Clone Wars character, Plo Koon.
- Koon’s return would have made sense, specifically connecting to the Filoni-directed Season 2, Episode 5 (“Chapter 13: The Jedi”), in which Star Wars: The Clone Wars fan-favorite Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) made her live-action debut.
- Koon, after all, was the Jedi who first found three-year-old Ahsoka on her homeworld of Shili, and the two maintained a special bond:
- Being the one who found her, Plo took her to the Jedi Temple, where she was to be raised to learn the ways of the Jedi. …
- Through their bond, Plo Koon affectionately calls her “Little ‘Soka” and Ahsoka calls him “Master Plo”.
- As it turns out, many fans also have an attachment to Ahsoka’s savior — and some of them wish Koon had come back to Star Wars instead of Mark Hamill’s Skywalker.
- In light of the news that Koon was used as a red herring, fans have even launched a social media campaign asking Disney and Lucasfilm to create an actual Plo Koon series.
- He was never meant to be in the show.
- They literally explain it.
- He was used as a placeholder to hide the Luke cameo.
- He was never meant to show up.
- In light of the news that Koon was used as a red herring, fans have even launched a social media campaign asking Disney and Lucasfilm to create an actual Plo Koon series.
- As for Luke Skywalker, his return came at the perfect moment in The Mandalorian saga.
- He swooped in with his X-wing and a green lightsaber just in time to save Din Djarin, Grogu and company from Moff Gideon and his Dark Trooper squad.
- Now, the character is expected to return
- A recent poster teased him making a yellow lightsaber with Grogu as the foundling commences his Jedi Order training
- That return is expected in The Mandalorian Season 3, Ahsoka, or The Book of Boba Fett or even in the rumored Luke Skywalker series that currently remains unconfirmed.
- When the Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian Luke Skywalker special dropped last week, Star Wars fans were in for a treat. (And an Insightful Pick of the Week)

- Cobra Kai’s fourth season won’t even debut on Netflix until December, but the streamer announced on Friday that the popular series will be back for a fifth season and series stars William Zabka and Ralph Macchio are both reacting to the news, sharing their excitement on social media.
- On Friday, both actors shared the short video clip also shared by the show’s official Twitter to celebrate the next chapter in the continuation of the iconic The Karate Kid film franchise.
- “Thank you, fans!!” Macchio wrote. “More story coming to you! @CobraKaiSeries S5 starts filming soon!”
- Zabka for his part shared the same sentiment as the official account, that “the dojo is about to be 5x as rad.
- Cobra Kai has been renewed for Season 5.”
- On Friday, both actors shared the short video clip also shared by the show’s official Twitter to celebrate the next chapter in the continuation of the iconic The Karate Kid film franchise.
- Cobra Kai is set over three decades after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament with the continuation of the conflict between Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso and Zabka’s Johnny Lawrence.
- With Season 4 due out in December, it’s currently unclear where Season 4 and Season 5 will take the series, but series co-creator Jon Hurwitz suggested earlier this year that there is a lot more story to tell.
- “We’ve always had a set end game, as to where the story’s going, but we’ve said from the beginning that we weren’t sure exactly how many seasons it’ll take to get there,” Hurwitz explained.
- “We found, even in Season 1 when we were in the writers’ room, there were so many ideas that we had that just didn’t fit into those five hours in the first season, so they ended up getting pushed to the next season.
- There are ideas that we talked about at the beginning of the show, that showed up in Season 3 or will show up in Season 4.
- And then, there are ideas that just fall by the wayside.
- There’s no added pressure to elongate the series.
- We’re still having a blast making it.
- There’s still a lot more story to tell, in our minds.
- “We just finished shooting Season 4 and we have a lot more that we’re excited to do, going forward,” Hurwitz continued.
- “So, we can’t tell you exactly how many seasons we’re going to have, but we know that we’re going to enter each season with enthusiasm and confidence.
- Eventually, we’ll talk to our friends at Sony and Netflix and say, ‘We think this is probably around the time we should be winding it down,’ and hopefully they’ll give us that time to do it.
- We’ll see.”

- Honoring Chadwick Boseman’s Legacy in Marvel Studios’ What If…?
- https://bit.ly/3jynrjS
- In the second episode of Marvel Studios’ animated series What If…?, now streaming on Disney+, the late Chadwick Boseman reprises his role as T’Challa.
- The actor originated the role in the live-action feature film Captain America: Civil War in 2016
- He returned for Black Panther, and Avengers: Infinity War both in 2018, as well as Avengers: Endgame in 2019
- But What If…? marks the first time Boseman voiced the character in an animated project.
- Sadly, it also marks the last time the actor got to bring T’Challa to life before his tragic passing last year.
- “He was so gracious,” executive producer Brad Winderbaum tells D23.
- “We were so fortunate to have him record for the series.
- He reprises his role as T’Challa in at least four episodes, in different versions of the character reimagined because of the different states of the universe.
- We had no idea at the time, when he was recording with us, that this would be his final performance as the character.
- It is such an honor to have had him record, to have his presence in the show.
- His performance has the same depth and the same impact that it does in live action; he elevates the material in an incredible way.
- We’re so humbled.”
- Sadly, it also marks the last time the actor got to bring T’Challa to life before his tragic passing last year.
- In the episode of What If…?, T’Challa, the young prince of Wakanda, is accidentally abducted by Yondu and becomes a Ravager.
- Known as Star-Lord throughout the galaxy, his reputation precedes him… which comes in handy when he crosses paths with the likes of Thanos , Nebula, and Korath the Pursuer, to name just a few.
- “T’Challa is interesting because he’s not a character who arcs himself,” head writer and executive producer AC Bradley said during the recent virtual press conference for What If…?.
- “He’s a character who changes the world around him.
- He doesn’t go through a transformation; he transforms the world.
- So, how would T’Challa transform outer space?”
- Director and executive producer Bryan Andrews said he was eager to work with Boseman on what would ultimately be the actor’s final performance as T’Challa.
- “It was amazing,” he recalled.
- “We only got a moment, because our episodes are so short compared to everyone who was able to enjoy his presence on Black Panther or even on Civil War.
- We had him for a moment to do our thing, and we’re so grateful for it.
- He was one of the first actors to sign on and say, ‘Oh, yeah! I’m going to do that voice.’
- We were so excited because we really, really wanted to work with Chadwick, and we love Black Panther.”
- Jeffrey Wright, who voices The Watcher, said he met Boseman several years ago at Comic-Con and had hoped to work with him ever since.
- “It was a lovely surprise to find out that we would have the opportunity to at least be in the same space with What If…?,” said Wright.
- “This being his last performance, I find that very moving.”
- In the second episode of Marvel Studios’ animated series What If…?, now streaming on Disney+, the late Chadwick Boseman reprises his role as T’Challa.

- Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, Season 2 Finale
- Disney+
- https://www.starwars.com/news/disney-gallery-the-mandalorian-luke-skywalker
- https://bit.ly/3mXUobT
- In last year’s Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian, the appearance of a young Luke Skywalker was one of the biggest reveals and best-kept secrets of the acclaimed show thus far.
- Reaction to the episode was emotionally-charged for many, deeply resonating with generations of fans who were elated to see the Jedi Master in his post-Star Wars: Return of the Jedi prime.
- The story of the cutting-edge technology used to bring Luke back is the subject of a special extra episode of Disney Gallery: Star Wars: The Mandalorian, which debuted on August 25 on Disney+.
- “Making of the Season 2 Finale” is a behind-the-scenes look at the making of this celebrated “chapter” of The Mandalorian, with a focus on the technology used for recreating Luke Skywalker.
- It delves into the collaborative process, including working with Mark Hamill, to create an authentic and fitting recreation, and explores the immense pressure and responsibility the filmmakers had in bringing back one of the most important characters in film history.
- Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian was an insightful pick previously for both it’s Season 1 and Season 2 documentaries on the Mandalorian
- We’ve enjoyed all of what the series has had to offer so far.
- But this episode was a little extra special because of the subject
- In watching the final episode of Season 2 I had already read the spoilers as I often do
- I knew what was going to happen, who it was going to be and how it was going to happen
- Even going into the episode with that foreknowledge I still couldn’t help but get choked up for the last 10 minutes or so of the episode
- Going into the making of that episode you’d have thought I’d gotten on that giddiness out of me
- But no, I was an 11 year old once again reliving all the memories and emotions of my youth pretty much through the entire episode
- As with the previous episodes of the documentary they manage to capture the behind the scenes feel just right
- You get to see the passion and emotion of the producers, directors, actors and effects people which by itself is infectious
- You get to see the different options for deaging Mark Hamill as explained in plain english by Jon Favrau
- Your given a peak behind the curtain at the challenges of keeping the secret and the deceptions deployed to do so
- And you get to see the filming of the scenes from different angles and then you get to relive that giddiness all over again
- In last year’s Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian, the appearance of a young Luke Skywalker was one of the biggest reveals and best-kept secrets of the acclaimed show thus far.
- It’s also worth noting that The Television Academy recognized the second season of The Mandalorian with 24 Emmy award nominations, including Best Drama Series.
- All are well deserved.

0:01:34.640,0:01:38.159
because they got pushed until friday and
0:01:36.880,0:01:39.920
then
0:01:38.159,0:01:42.079
the weekend showed up and nobody wanted
0:01:39.920,0:01:44.320
to do anything on the weekend yeah it
0:01:42.079,0:01:45.920
was a holiday weekend too so we just
0:01:44.320,0:01:49.360
kind of wanted to
0:01:45.920,0:01:50.960
relax oh and school started this week so
0:01:49.360,0:01:52.640
yeah
0:01:50.960,0:01:54.720
i will have a very interesting
0:01:52.640,0:01:56.799
discussion with our daughter tomorrow on
0:01:54.720,0:01:59.360
tomorrow’s podcast
0:01:56.799,0:02:01.520
uh but yeah we didn’t podcast last this
0:01:59.360,0:02:04.240
week last week uh we’ll chalk that up to
0:02:01.520,0:02:06.399
an act of god yep sure god didn’t want
0:02:04.240,0:02:08.640
us podcasting so we didn’t he said stay
0:02:06.399,0:02:10.479
in the basement and watch the news yeah
0:02:08.640,0:02:13.200
with everyone else we did we were glued
0:02:10.479,0:02:15.280
to we did get to see uh the cloud go by
0:02:13.200,0:02:18.160
on the security camera which was scary
0:02:15.280,0:02:20.560
it was very scary how close it came
0:02:18.160,0:02:22.800
so but we’re back this week we were very
0:02:20.560,0:02:26.480
fortunate we did not get any
0:02:22.800,0:02:28.480
uh damage no injuries um so we were and
0:02:26.480,0:02:30.080
it only blew by about two miles away
0:02:28.480,0:02:33.680
from us yeah on the other side of our
0:02:30.080,0:02:35.920
town so yeah yeah very very close call
0:02:33.680,0:02:39.120
but we’re back this week and we are
0:02:35.920,0:02:41.280
talking about disney and star wars and
0:02:39.120,0:02:43.680
all the other stuff that we talk about
0:02:41.280,0:02:46.160
so in today’s disney detective some
0:02:43.680,0:02:47.200
details on the reimagining of splash
0:02:46.160,0:02:51.360
mountain
0:02:47.200,0:02:53.120
and is disney losing mickey mouse no
0:02:51.360,0:02:55.599
maybe maybe kind of
0:02:53.120,0:02:58.239
sort of maybe then in our tales from the
0:02:55.599,0:03:00.560
edge of the galaxy a props bonanza at
0:02:58.239,0:03:02.959
walt disney archives
0:03:00.560,0:03:05.599
and star wars fans suddenly wish that
0:03:02.959,0:03:06.640
luke skywalker cameo didn’t actually
0:03:05.599,0:03:09.040
happen
0:03:06.640,0:03:12.000
the fickle bunch that they are poo poo
0:03:09.040,0:03:14.720
heads one of which i count myself
0:03:12.000,0:03:17.840
yes you are and for our entertainment
0:03:14.720,0:03:21.280
news the stars of corporate cover cobra
0:03:17.840,0:03:23.040
react to a season five announcement
0:03:21.280,0:03:24.879
and then the honoring of chadwick
0:03:23.040,0:03:26.319
boseman’s legacy
0:03:24.879,0:03:28.080
and as always we’ll finish up with our
0:03:26.319,0:03:31.120
insightful picks of the week
0:03:28.080,0:03:32.959
and some afterthoughts that uh next week
0:03:31.120,0:03:34.799
you said we’ll start ticking those off
0:03:32.959,0:03:37.440
the list yeah because they’re finally
0:03:34.799,0:03:40.239
finally coming up to them so which is
0:03:37.440,0:03:43.360
nice yeah but before we do that i would
0:03:40.239,0:03:45.519
appeal to our audience uh both are
0:03:43.360,0:03:47.760
listening and our viewing audience to
0:03:45.519,0:03:49.360

0:04:37.730,0:04:42.400
[Music]
0:04:39.919,0:04:43.960
go for disney detective so our first
0:04:42.400,0:04:47.360
story comes from
0:04:43.960,0:04:50.320
d23.com and as we previously discussed
0:04:47.360,0:04:53.280
on the podcast walt disney imagineerings
0:04:50.320,0:04:56.560
planned to reimagine splash mountain at
0:04:53.280,0:04:59.280
disneyland and disney world resorts so
0:04:56.560,0:05:01.840
the intent was to bring new theming
0:04:59.280,0:05:04.560
inspired by the beloved walt disney
0:05:01.840,0:05:07.840
animation studios film the princess and
0:05:04.560,0:05:11.120
the frog to the ride so recently the
0:05:07.840,0:05:14.160
team at d23 which is the official disney
0:05:11.120,0:05:16.560
fan club discussed the changes with bob
0:05:14.160,0:05:18.639
weiss who happens to be the president of
0:05:16.560,0:05:21.120
walt disney imagineering
0:05:18.639,0:05:23.919
so the results of that interview were
0:05:21.120,0:05:26.639
published recently on the club’s website
0:05:23.919,0:05:28.720
in august 23rd post
0:05:26.639,0:05:30.160
in the talk some of the very first
0:05:28.720,0:05:32.800
details were
0:05:30.160,0:05:34.720
revealed about the attraction so the
0:05:32.800,0:05:37.840
theme of the new attraction centers
0:05:34.720,0:05:40.560
around tiana’s first ever mardi gras
0:05:37.840,0:05:43.520
performance now so much goes into the
0:05:40.560,0:05:46.880
creative process behind the attractions
0:05:43.520,0:05:48.240
including in-depth research to spark
0:05:46.880,0:05:50.320
inspiration
0:05:48.240,0:05:52.960
so for this upcoming attraction
0:05:50.320,0:05:55.360
imagineers dug deep into the culture of
0:05:52.960,0:05:58.240
new orleans which is the city that tiana
0:05:55.360,0:06:01.039
calls home in order to craft a story
0:05:58.240,0:06:02.319
authentic to both the region and to the
0:06:01.039,0:06:05.360
characters
0:06:02.319,0:06:08.319
so so much makes new orleans a distinct
0:06:05.360,0:06:10.319
and unique city from the food the music
0:06:08.319,0:06:12.479
the art the architecture and the
0:06:10.319,0:06:15.199
diversity of its people and their
0:06:12.479,0:06:17.360
traditions there’s just so much which
0:06:15.199,0:06:18.319
the imagineers could find inspiration
0:06:17.360,0:06:21.039
from
0:06:18.319,0:06:25.440
so one of the early inspirations was
0:06:21.039,0:06:28.960
from a visual artist uh shakira mandy um
0:06:25.440,0:06:32.400
and mandy is an art educator and alumni
0:06:28.960,0:06:33.840
of the renowned uh i guess it’s yaya i
0:06:32.400,0:06:35.280
don’t know
0:06:33.840,0:06:36.199
so it’s the young
0:06:35.280,0:06:39.520
uh
0:06:36.199,0:06:41.680
aspirations young artists incorporated
0:06:39.520,0:06:44.240
art center which is located in new
0:06:41.680,0:06:47.199
orleans so to help inspire the
0:06:44.240,0:06:50.000
imagineers uh mandy was commissioned to
0:06:47.199,0:06:52.960
create a series of four original
0:06:50.000,0:06:55.440
paintings to inspire the imagineers the
0:06:52.960,0:06:56.479
walt disney company recently announced
0:06:55.440,0:06:59.680
that they
0:06:56.479,0:07:00.840
were making a 50 000 donation
0:06:59.680,0:07:02.400
to
0:07:00.840,0:07:04.479
nocca
0:07:02.400,0:07:06.080
which is the new orleans center for the
0:07:04.479,0:07:08.639
creative arts
0:07:06.080,0:07:11.199
it’s a regional pre-professional arts
0:07:08.639,0:07:14.560
training center that offers students
0:07:11.199,0:07:17.520
instruction in culinary dance media
0:07:14.560,0:07:18.960
music theater visual and creative
0:07:17.520,0:07:21.039
writing arts
0:07:18.960,0:07:22.560
the donation was meant to celebrate the
0:07:21.039,0:07:24.800
inspiration
0:07:22.560,0:07:27.120
that the region provides
0:07:24.800,0:07:28.639
to the new attraction disney’s love for
0:07:27.120,0:07:30.479
the city of new orleans and the
0:07:28.639,0:07:32.160
company’s commitment to the arts and
0:07:30.479,0:07:34.000
education
0:07:32.160,0:07:36.560
so if you can’t get enough of princess
0:07:34.000,0:07:38.400
tiana there’s so much more
0:07:36.560,0:07:40.160
about her story which is going to be
0:07:38.400,0:07:43.199
coming out
0:07:40.160,0:07:46.080
one of the things is that the new
0:07:43.199,0:07:47.280
disney cruise line ship the disney wish
0:07:46.080,0:07:49.759
which will be
0:07:47.280,0:07:52.080
starting to hopefully set sail next year
0:07:49.759,0:07:54.319
is going to have a new lounge based on
0:07:52.080,0:07:56.960
her theme called the bayou and then
0:07:54.319,0:07:59.680
there is also an animated series that’s
0:07:56.960,0:08:02.400
going to be coming to disney plus uh
0:07:59.680,0:08:04.160
called tiana that’s kind of cool
0:08:02.400,0:08:06.080
you know i i i
0:08:04.160,0:08:07.680
there’s no secret that i bash disney
0:08:06.080,0:08:08.800
when they deserve to be bashed on the
0:08:07.680,0:08:11.919
show
0:08:08.800,0:08:13.599
but only when they deserve it right no
0:08:11.919,0:08:14.479
so they deserve it quite a lot these
0:08:13.599,0:08:16.720
days
0:08:14.479,0:08:18.319
um but this is one of those situations
0:08:16.720,0:08:19.680
where it’s it’s nice to see that they’re
0:08:18.319,0:08:21.919
not just
0:08:19.680,0:08:23.599
culturally appropriating things and
0:08:21.919,0:08:24.879
profiting off of it they’re giving back
0:08:23.599,0:08:27.759
to the community
0:08:24.879,0:08:30.479
they’re recognizing the community
0:08:27.759,0:08:32.000
it’s it’s a very different side of
0:08:30.479,0:08:34.240
disney that we’re seeing with this
0:08:32.000,0:08:35.839
particular thing yeah yeah and they’re
0:08:34.240,0:08:37.200
changing the ride for all the right
0:08:35.839,0:08:39.839
reasons
0:08:37.200,0:08:41.120
and they’re doing it with a modern take
0:08:39.839,0:08:43.360
on
0:08:41.120,0:08:45.680
a princess that represents a whole new
0:08:43.360,0:08:48.560
segment of the population right because
0:08:45.680,0:08:51.279
they could have totally just
0:08:48.560,0:08:53.200
taken out song of the south and just
0:08:51.279,0:08:56.160
exactly it’s a bunch of animals right
0:08:53.200,0:09:00.000
you know and not given it any
0:08:56.160,0:09:02.560
movie tie-in or anything and here
0:09:00.000,0:09:05.440
as is a princess who you know has a
0:09:02.560,0:09:08.000
great story has a great background and
0:09:05.440,0:09:10.160
uh you know doesn’t necessarily need a
0:09:08.000,0:09:12.240
prince to make her her dreams come true
0:09:10.160,0:09:13.120
because she was doing everything on her
0:09:12.240,0:09:15.279
own
0:09:13.120,0:09:16.880
and yeah she’s a great inspiration the
0:09:15.279,0:09:19.279
character itself
0:09:16.880,0:09:22.160
is a great inspiration and it’s
0:09:19.279,0:09:24.240
representative of a segment that’s all
0:09:22.160,0:09:26.080
too often underrepresented in
0:09:24.240,0:09:28.640
entertainment yeah so
0:09:26.080,0:09:29.600
kudos to them very cool
0:09:28.640,0:09:31.680
so
0:09:29.600,0:09:33.279
the burning question will disney lose
0:09:31.680,0:09:35.920
the rights to mickey mouse let’s talk
0:09:33.279,0:09:38.640
about that one i don’t know so when you
0:09:35.920,0:09:40.720
think of disney there are a few iconic
0:09:38.640,0:09:43.920
images that come to mind perhaps a
0:09:40.720,0:09:47.120
castle or maybe a favorite princess but
0:09:43.920,0:09:50.480
one thing is universally known as
0:09:47.120,0:09:53.279
but one thing that is universally known
0:09:50.480,0:09:55.120
as disney is mickey mouse so from the
0:09:53.279,0:09:58.000
days of steamboat willie
0:09:55.120,0:10:01.120
walt’s uh debut of his little pal mickey
0:09:58.000,0:10:03.519
mouse has been the mascot of disney but
0:10:01.120,0:10:06.480
now it seems that disney is at risk of
0:10:03.519,0:10:08.880
losing the rights to the character so
0:10:06.480,0:10:12.480
according to the hollywood reporter the
0:10:08.880,0:10:14.800
copyright for walt disney’s 1928 cartoon
0:10:12.480,0:10:17.680
steamboat willie which introduced the
0:10:14.800,0:10:20.640
world to mickey mouse is set to expire
0:10:17.680,0:10:22.880
and enter the public domain in three
0:10:20.640,0:10:25.120
years so the rights would include the
0:10:22.880,0:10:27.600
mickey mouse that we saw in the film
0:10:25.120,0:10:30.240
which is different from other iterations
0:10:27.600,0:10:32.000
of the character as time progressed so
0:10:30.240,0:10:34.399
the hollywood reporter went on to
0:10:32.000,0:10:36.079
explain how disney avoided this
0:10:34.399,0:10:38.720
happening earlier
0:10:36.079,0:10:41.200
disney had successfully lobbied congress
0:10:38.720,0:10:44.480
to lengthen the number of years that
0:10:41.200,0:10:46.320
copyrights can be held in 1988.
0:10:44.480,0:10:49.279
the law ended up being called the
0:10:46.320,0:10:51.440
copyright term extension act but has
0:10:49.279,0:10:54.320
also received the name the mickey mass
0:10:51.440,0:10:56.560
protection act however in three years
0:10:54.320,0:11:00.160
the rights to mickey mouse will end and
0:10:56.560,0:11:02.720
mickey will end up for grabs so it seems
0:11:00.160,0:11:04.480
that disney’s legal team might succeed
0:11:02.720,0:11:07.680
in keeping walt disney’s favorite
0:11:04.480,0:11:10.160
character famous character and the
0:11:07.680,0:11:12.560
mouse house mascot from becoming free
0:11:10.160,0:11:15.200
rights just as others have done with
0:11:12.560,0:11:17.680
dracula or sherlock holmes
0:11:15.200,0:11:20.880
if not however another company is
0:11:17.680,0:11:22.800
basically ready to eat disney alive the
0:11:20.880,0:11:24.800
hollywood reporter announced that a
0:11:22.800,0:11:27.519
company called mischief
0:11:24.800,0:11:28.800
uh spelled m s
0:11:27.519,0:11:32.240
h
0:11:28.800,0:11:34.720
has launched its ex-famous mouse
0:11:32.240,0:11:37.680
so the company’s ad copy doesn’t call
0:11:34.720,0:11:40.000
the token mickey mouse or use its exact
0:11:37.680,0:11:42.480
imagery for now but it’s kind of a
0:11:40.000,0:11:45.279
placeholder for the iconic character
0:11:42.480,0:11:47.200
and comes with a unique ticking clock
0:11:45.279,0:11:50.399
the idea is that you pay for a
0:11:47.200,0:11:53.200
non-descript mouse-like token today the
0:11:50.399,0:11:55.760
cost of a hundred dollars for one of the
0:11:53.200,0:11:57.839
1000 copies available
0:11:55.760,0:11:59.600
and then you’ll receive a physical
0:11:57.839,0:12:01.519
collectible token
0:11:59.600,0:12:04.320
for uh for the character that’s
0:12:01.519,0:12:06.560
redeemable in 2024
0:12:04.320,0:12:09.120
when disney’s copyright on mickey mouse
0:12:06.560,0:12:11.440
is set to expire and then at that time
0:12:09.120,0:12:14.880
you’ll receive the real deal
0:12:11.440,0:12:17.040
so mischief ceo gabe uh whaley is
0:12:14.880,0:12:19.800
clearly not a fan of disney as he has
0:12:17.040,0:12:22.160
stated he has said disney is a massive
0:12:19.800,0:12:24.399
all-swallowing conglomerate with a
0:12:22.160,0:12:27.839
desire for both industry dominance and
0:12:24.399,0:12:30.639
cultural homogeny it is ever growing
0:12:27.839,0:12:32.000
ever encompassing risk averse
0:12:30.639,0:12:34.880
and society
0:12:32.000,0:12:37.440
blandering we must leap at the chance to
0:12:34.880,0:12:38.720
take back even the scant morsels
0:12:37.440,0:12:41.040
available to
0:12:38.720,0:12:43.360
us at the slightest chance we must eat
0:12:41.040,0:12:44.079
them alive i don’t think he really likes
0:12:43.360,0:12:46.399
them
0:12:44.079,0:12:48.639
i can’t imagine why you think that yeah
0:12:46.399,0:12:50.800
so if disney does gain the rights to
0:12:48.639,0:12:51.839
mickey mouse his token would likely be
0:12:50.800,0:12:53.680
void
0:12:51.839,0:12:55.680
the idea of creating the coin while
0:12:53.680,0:12:58.399
disney still owns the rights may not
0:12:55.680,0:12:59.600
have been the best move on his part a
0:12:58.399,0:13:01.680
copyright
0:12:59.600,0:13:03.279
attorney discussed the situation and it
0:13:01.680,0:13:06.880
seems that disney could have legal
0:13:03.279,0:13:08.880
grounds to actually sue the company um
0:13:06.880,0:13:11.839
they said it’s difficult to foresee a
0:13:08.880,0:13:15.519
scenario where art of a not yet public
0:13:11.839,0:13:18.240
domain work could not give rise to a
0:13:15.519,0:13:20.850
prospective claim disney can credibly
0:13:18.240,0:13:22.079
argue that the uh in

0:13:26.720,0:13:30.279
phonetically did you yeah you did
0:13:28.959,0:13:33.760
incoherent
0:13:30.279,0:13:37.839
incoherent okay license devalues the
0:13:33.760,0:13:39.199
current value of its licensing right by
0:13:37.839,0:13:41.360
diverting
0:13:39.199,0:13:43.440
would-be licenses
0:13:41.360,0:13:45.199
it should be noted that even if disney
0:13:43.440,0:13:47.760
were to lose the trademark of the
0:13:45.199,0:13:50.800
original mickey mouse disney would still
0:13:47.760,0:13:52.800
own copyrights for later incarnations of
0:13:50.800,0:13:55.279
the character and mickey related
0:13:52.800,0:13:57.600
trademarks so it’ll take a few years to
0:13:55.279,0:14:00.720
see what happens with disney and the
0:13:57.600,0:14:02.560
original mickey mouse see now
0:14:00.720,0:14:04.000
i didn’t bash disney on the last story
0:14:02.560,0:14:06.800
but i’m going to bash him on this one
0:14:04.000,0:14:08.480
sure go right ahead disney basically
0:14:06.800,0:14:10.800
strong-armed their way in the
0:14:08.480,0:14:12.320
legislation so they could protect their
0:14:10.800,0:14:13.600
one thing
0:14:12.320,0:14:15.600
and they basically bought the
0:14:13.600,0:14:16.480
politicians that they needed to do this
0:14:15.600,0:14:18.320
which
0:14:16.480,0:14:21.279
i mean welcome to america that’s what
0:14:18.320,0:14:23.519
all corporations do right however by
0:14:21.279,0:14:25.600
doing that
0:14:23.519,0:14:27.920
they did it with the intent to protect
0:14:25.600,0:14:29.920
their own but it had far-reaching
0:14:27.920,0:14:31.680
consequences through the entire
0:14:29.920,0:14:34.160
copyright industry
0:14:31.680,0:14:36.639
so you have works of art like
0:14:34.160,0:14:38.560
compositions music compositions
0:14:36.639,0:14:41.120
that have not been able to enter the
0:14:38.560,0:14:42.720
public domain because of disney
0:14:41.120,0:14:46.000
and it had nothing to do with mickey
0:14:42.720,0:14:48.880
mouse so disney’s basically held a
0:14:46.000,0:14:52.320
stranglehold on the copyright industry
0:14:48.880,0:14:54.000
for the last 30 some 40 some years now
0:14:52.320,0:14:56.000
just because they didn’t want to give up
0:14:54.000,0:14:59.040
the rights to mickey mouse
0:14:56.000,0:15:01.279
when we all know that this incarnation
0:14:59.040,0:15:02.720
of mickey mouse that we’re seeing here
0:15:01.279,0:15:04.320
that’s one of the earliest versions of
0:15:02.720,0:15:05.199
mickey mouse
0:15:04.320,0:15:07.279
is
0:15:05.199,0:15:10.000
really only a short period of time in
0:15:07.279,0:15:12.880
the copyright history of the mouse
0:15:10.000,0:15:15.279
yeah and if they lost this no one’s
0:15:12.880,0:15:17.040
going to identify this mouse as anyone
0:15:15.279,0:15:19.199
other than mickey mouse absolutely or
0:15:17.040,0:15:22.079
associated with anyone other than disney
0:15:19.199,0:15:24.639
so by fiat they basically have a
0:15:22.079,0:15:26.639
monopoly on this character
0:15:24.639,0:15:28.000
and that’s really what should be argued
0:15:26.639,0:15:29.839
in this case here is that no one’s ever
0:15:28.000,0:15:31.199
going to confuse that as somebody else’s
0:15:29.839,0:15:32.240
mouse right
0:15:31.199,0:15:34.720
so
0:15:32.240,0:15:36.720
i don’t have a problem if they continue
0:15:34.720,0:15:38.959
to own the copyright to that
0:15:36.720,0:15:40.639
but don’t affect the entire copyright
0:15:38.959,0:15:43.360
industry because of that the fact that
0:15:40.639,0:15:46.399
our politicians allowed that to happen
0:15:43.360,0:15:49.279
and basically allowed disney to buy that
0:15:46.399,0:15:52.320
legislation back in the 1980s
0:15:49.279,0:15:54.160
is is inconceivable to me
0:15:52.320,0:15:57.440
you know the fact that you can do that
0:15:54.160,0:15:59.279
and a company can do that for one
0:15:57.440,0:16:00.399
purpose and then it affect everything
0:15:59.279,0:16:02.800
globally
0:16:00.399,0:16:05.279
is well within the united states
0:16:02.800,0:16:07.440
it’s idiotic it really is and disney did
0:16:05.279,0:16:10.079
it with a strong arm tactic
0:16:07.440,0:16:12.160
not caring who else it affected
0:16:10.079,0:16:14.160
you know you have artists that aren’t
0:16:12.160,0:16:16.880
their estates are not collecting any
0:16:14.160,0:16:19.120
revenue on a lot of these things anymore
0:16:16.880,0:16:22.480
but they legally can’t put it up into
0:16:19.120,0:16:24.720
the public domain even if they want to
0:16:22.480,0:16:26.240
because of disney so this is one area
0:16:24.720,0:16:27.920
where disney really needs to stay away
0:16:26.240,0:16:29.839
from trying to get legislation passed
0:16:27.920,0:16:31.759
they’re not politicians
0:16:29.839,0:16:33.040
they may own their own country down in
0:16:31.759,0:16:34.560
florida
0:16:33.040,0:16:36.480
with a navy that’s bigger than most
0:16:34.560,0:16:38.639
third world countries
0:16:36.480,0:16:40.399
but they shouldn’t be trying to pass
0:16:38.639,0:16:42.000
legislation on their own because they’re
0:16:40.399,0:16:43.680
not going to do it right
0:16:42.000,0:16:44.720
not that our politicians don’t either
0:16:43.680,0:16:46.480
yeah well
0:16:44.720,0:16:48.399
but anyway that’s why soapbox ran on
0:16:46.480,0:16:50.399
disney for this week okay i kept it
0:16:48.399,0:16:52.320
brief didn’t i yeah that was good
0:16:50.399,0:16:55.199
not bad at all so that was all we had
0:16:52.320,0:16:57.519
for our disney detective we’ll be back

go for tails from the edge of the galaxy
0:18:15.440,0:18:21.120
so the walt disney archives recently
0:18:17.679,0:18:24.080
received multiple large trailer fulls of
0:18:21.120,0:18:26.480
significant props from the most recent
0:18:24.080,0:18:29.440
star wars films including the force

props and set decorations that were
0:18:38.640,0:18:43.520
actually used during pre-production and
0:18:40.960,0:18:47.600
filming and the vast majority appeared

on screen says rick uh lawrence who

is the acquisitions manager for the walt
0:18:50.080,0:18:55.360

0:18:52.720,0:18:57.679
a large size x-wing starfighter an

a-wing and the cockpit set of the
0:18:57.679,0:19:02.559

0:19:00.160,0:19:05.280
films most of these items have rarely if
0:19:02.559,0:19:07.600
ever be been seen except
0:19:05.280,0:19:10.559
aside from the occasional star wars
0:19:07.600,0:19:11.480
celebration or d23 expo
0:19:10.559,0:19:15.520
so the
0:19:11.480,0:19:17.919
2019 d23 expo featured an impressive
0:19:15.520,0:19:20.640

0:20:03.360,0:20:08.880
as the custodian of stolen plans or
0:20:07.039,0:20:11.280
star wars props
0:20:08.880,0:20:13.520
artifacts and costumes
0:20:11.280,0:20:16.320
she herself is also making the journey
0:20:13.520,0:20:19.039
from a galaxy far far away to join the
0:20:16.320,0:20:21.200
walt disney archives she had said i’m
0:20:19.039,0:20:23.600
very excited to join i’ll be part of the
0:20:21.200,0:20:25.840
research team working directly with
0:20:23.600,0:20:28.960
kevin kern it’ll be a good point of
0:20:25.840,0:20:31.520
contact for all things lucasfilms
0:20:28.960,0:20:34.240
so in addition to the thousands of props
0:20:31.520,0:20:36.640
already sent to the archives all future
0:20:34.240,0:20:38.960
lucasfilm live-action productions will
0:20:36.640,0:20:41.520
likely yield additional treasures for
0:20:38.960,0:20:43.919
the collection but with such a vast and
0:20:41.520,0:20:47.039
expanding galaxy to explore how does the
0:20:43.919,0:20:50.080
archive team determine what to keep she
0:20:47.039,0:20:51.760
had said in deciding what items we
0:20:50.080,0:20:54.240
collect and preserve we want to
0:20:51.760,0:20:57.039
represent the creative process and the
0:20:54.240,0:20:58.880
story itself she says archivists look at
0:20:57.039,0:21:01.360
the costumes that represent the main
0:20:58.880,0:21:03.840
characters or a number of creatures who
0:21:01.360,0:21:06.240
have been predominantly featured in the
0:21:03.840,0:21:09.520
films or more recently on the disney
0:21:06.240,0:21:11.600
plus live action series the mandalorian
0:21:09.520,0:21:12.559
she says i definitely have an unusual
0:21:11.600,0:21:16.480
job
0:21:12.559,0:21:19.200
it might seem like a gargantuan task to
0:21:16.480,0:21:20.799
adequately preserve the touch points and
0:21:19.200,0:21:23.600
important props of one of the most
0:21:20.799,0:21:27.120
significant film franchises in motion
0:21:23.600,0:21:29.440
picture history but for now she says
0:21:27.120,0:21:31.760
herself and the rest of the team are
0:21:29.440,0:21:35.600
excited to finally bring these items to
0:21:31.760,0:21:38.720
the walt disney archives such as luke’s
0:21:35.600,0:21:42.400
x-wing the falcon seating area and
0:21:38.720,0:21:45.600
obviously all those droids so suddenly
0:21:42.400,0:21:48.080
we’re not so far far away anymore
0:21:45.600,0:21:49.440
and we can’t wait to see them all
0:21:48.080,0:21:51.280
and you know
0:21:49.440,0:21:54.960
they need to do something you either
0:21:51.280,0:21:57.760
need a traveling exhibit yes i agree you
0:21:54.960,0:22:00.000
need a behind the scenes look at the
0:21:57.760,0:22:01.840
props and go through the things because
0:22:00.000,0:22:04.000
i would love to see
0:22:01.840,0:22:06.080
the creative process in creating these
0:22:04.000,0:22:07.280
things what where does the inspiration
0:22:06.080,0:22:09.679
come from
0:22:07.280,0:22:11.679
what’s the process look like right they
0:22:09.679,0:22:13.200
had the one prop show on disney plus
0:22:11.679,0:22:14.000
that we love where they were hunting
0:22:13.200,0:22:16.080
down
0:22:14.000,0:22:18.480
right lost props and stuff
0:22:16.080,0:22:20.640
and that was really cool to see that you
0:22:18.480,0:22:23.360
get the history of the props but i would
0:22:20.640,0:22:26.400
love to see them open up the archives
0:22:23.360,0:22:28.159
yeah just just take cameras through and
0:22:26.400,0:22:30.799
show you this stuff and talk about it
0:22:28.159,0:22:32.559
and i’m surprised that they haven’t done
0:22:30.799,0:22:34.240
anything like that over the years
0:22:32.559,0:22:36.720
because yeah you’ve gotten little
0:22:34.240,0:22:38.840
glimpse here and there of things but
0:22:36.720,0:22:41.760
never like a real
0:22:38.840,0:22:43.440
full-fledged tour right you know of it
0:22:41.760,0:22:44.640
and i could understand you don’t want
0:22:43.440,0:22:45.919
people in it because you don’t want
0:22:44.640,0:22:48.159
people touching certain things or
0:22:45.919,0:22:51.200
whatever but now especially now that you
0:22:48.159,0:22:54.640
have disney plus yeah you could do
0:22:51.200,0:22:56.640
hours upon hours of that you know and
0:22:54.640,0:22:58.159
not just star wars because star wars
0:22:56.640,0:23:01.600
could be its own
0:22:58.159,0:23:03.600
series of just all the star wars props
0:23:01.600,0:23:06.000
that you have and the history behind it
0:23:03.600,0:23:07.679
and you know who made this and you know
0:23:06.000,0:23:09.520
this was the first version of something
0:23:07.679,0:23:10.880
and you know this was the last version
0:23:09.520,0:23:13.520
of something or this was a version that
0:23:10.880,0:23:15.360
we never even used just like the x-wing
0:23:13.520,0:23:16.720
i mean to look at the differences in the
0:23:15.360,0:23:20.880
x-wing
0:23:16.720,0:23:23.120
from a new hope until last jedi or rise
0:23:20.880,0:23:25.120
of skywalker would just be awesome to
0:23:23.120,0:23:27.200
see that evolution and see how they
0:23:25.120,0:23:28.240
decided to change things and modernize
0:23:27.200,0:23:30.400
them and
0:23:28.240,0:23:31.360
um so disney if anyone from disney is
0:23:30.400,0:23:33.039
listening
0:23:31.360,0:23:35.600
you’ve got a show right there that’s a
0:23:33.039,0:23:37.360
guaranteed hit absolutely even if you
0:23:35.600,0:23:39.760
even if you don’t do disney props and
0:23:37.360,0:23:40.960
just do star wars that’s like 10 seasons
0:23:39.760,0:23:44.960
right there
0:23:40.960,0:23:47.200
totally yeah 10 seasons 10 seasons i say
0:23:44.960,0:23:50.320
and that comes from a fickle star wars
0:23:47.200,0:23:52.480
fan who was one of many who i don’t
0:23:50.320,0:23:54.240
actually wish that lucas i or her cameo
0:23:52.480,0:23:56.320
didn’t happen but some did let’s talk
0:23:54.240,0:23:59.039
about that yeah so when the disney
0:23:56.320,0:24:02.320
gallery the mandalorian luke skywalker
0:23:59.039,0:24:04.880
special dropped la uh a few weeks ago uh
0:24:02.320,0:24:07.919
star wars fans were in for a treat and
0:24:04.880,0:24:10.559
an insightful pick hmm
0:24:07.919,0:24:12.480
teasers uh the installment gave a
0:24:10.559,0:24:15.679
special behind-the-scenes look at the
0:24:12.480,0:24:19.600
making of the season two finale episode
0:24:15.679,0:24:22.799
chapter 16 the rescue which saw jedi
0:24:19.600,0:24:25.279
knight luke skywalker the cgi version of
0:24:22.799,0:24:28.240
mark hamill returned to the star wars
0:24:25.279,0:24:29.840
universe just after the original trilogy
0:24:28.240,0:24:32.159
error
0:24:29.840,0:24:34.240
so the mandalorian for those who don’t
0:24:32.159,0:24:36.559
know is set about five years after
0:24:34.240,0:24:37.600
george lucas’s star wars return of the
0:24:36.559,0:24:40.159
jedi
0:24:37.600,0:24:42.559
in addition to hamel comparing the
0:24:40.159,0:24:44.880
return of his iconic star wars character
0:24:42.559,0:24:47.200
to james bond one of the most
0:24:44.880,0:24:49.520
interesting tidbits that was shared in
0:24:47.200,0:24:52.080
the disney gallery the mandalorian
0:24:49.520,0:24:55.440
episode was the fact that chapter 16
0:24:52.080,0:24:58.640
director peyton reed executive producer
0:24:55.440,0:25:01.120
dave filoni show runner john favreau and
0:24:58.640,0:25:04.240
others on the production crew developed
0:25:01.120,0:25:07.279
an elaborate hoax to concede
0:25:04.240,0:25:09.200
to convince fans that skywalker wasn’t
0:25:07.279,0:25:12.400
actually the jedi coming back to the
0:25:09.200,0:25:14.400
star wars story to accomplish this they
0:25:12.400,0:25:17.600
commissioned elaborate concept art
0:25:14.400,0:25:20.159
featuring a fan favorite prequel trilogy
0:25:17.600,0:25:21.200
and star wars clone wars character plo
0:25:20.159,0:25:23.679
koon
0:25:21.200,0:25:26.720
kun’s return would have made sense
0:25:23.679,0:25:29.360
specifically connecting to the filoni
0:25:26.720,0:25:33.360
directed season 2 episode
0:25:29.360,0:25:36.799
5 chapter 13 the jedi in which star wars
0:25:33.360,0:25:40.320
clone wars fan favorite ahsoka tana made
0:25:36.799,0:25:42.559
her live-action debut so cloon
0:25:40.320,0:25:45.200
after all was the jedi who first found
0:25:42.559,0:25:48.000
the three-year-old ahsoka on her home
0:25:45.200,0:25:48.960
world and the two maintained a special
0:25:48.000,0:25:51.760
bond
0:25:48.960,0:25:53.919
bringing the one who found her plune
0:25:51.760,0:25:56.240
took her to the jedi temple where she
0:25:53.919,0:25:58.799
was then raised to learn the ways of the
0:25:56.240,0:26:01.200
jedi and throughout their bond placoon
0:25:58.799,0:26:02.960
affectionately called her little soka
0:26:01.200,0:26:04.159
and ahsoka
0:26:02.960,0:26:05.679
called him
0:26:04.159,0:26:08.880
master plu
0:26:05.679,0:26:11.440
as it turns out many fans also have an
0:26:08.880,0:26:14.080
attachment to ahsoka’s
0:26:11.440,0:26:16.159
savior and some of them wish that cloon
0:26:14.080,0:26:18.880
had come back to star wars instead of
0:26:16.159,0:26:21.039
mark hamill skywalker so in light of the
0:26:18.880,0:26:23.440
noons that cloon
0:26:21.039,0:26:26.559
was used as a red herring fans have been
0:26:23.440,0:26:29.360
launching a social media campaign asking
0:26:26.559,0:26:32.080
disney and lucasfilms to create an
0:26:29.360,0:26:34.080
actual plo-coon series
0:26:32.080,0:26:36.240
but they basically said he was never
0:26:34.080,0:26:38.320
meant to be on the show they literally
0:26:36.240,0:26:41.039
explained it all he was used as a
0:26:38.320,0:26:43.520
placeholder to hide luke’s cameo
0:26:41.039,0:26:46.000
he was never meant to show up so as for
0:26:43.520,0:26:49.200
luke skywalker his return came at a
0:26:46.000,0:26:51.760
perfect moment in the mandalorian saga
0:26:49.200,0:26:55.840
he swooped in with his x-wing and a
0:26:51.760,0:26:56.720
green lightsaber just in time to save uh
0:26:55.840,0:27:00.400
din
0:26:56.720,0:27:02.559
jiren uh grog i’d know i totally screwed
0:27:00.400,0:27:04.240
that up
0:27:02.559,0:27:07.360
i’m sorry
0:27:04.240,0:27:09.520
din jaren star wars star wars names
0:27:07.360,0:27:13.200
really don’t work with you
0:27:09.520,0:27:15.840
hey so don’t grogo uh and company from
0:27:13.200,0:27:17.840
moff gideon played by who
0:27:15.840,0:27:19.279
juan carlos
0:27:17.840,0:27:23.039
you know what
0:27:19.279,0:27:23.039
giancarlo esposito
0:27:24.000,0:27:28.640
excuse me i’m sorry i didn’t need to get
0:27:26.159,0:27:29.919
that out my yeah and his dark trooper
0:27:28.640,0:27:30.220
squad
0:27:29.919,0:27:32.880
jerk
0:27:30.220,0:27:35.120
[Laughter]
0:27:32.880,0:27:38.080
and now the character is expected to
0:27:35.120,0:27:40.799
return a recent poster teased him making
0:27:38.080,0:27:43.200
a yellow lightsaber with grogu as the
0:27:40.799,0:27:45.760
foundling commences his jedi order
0:27:43.200,0:27:49.679
training that return is expected in the
0:27:45.760,0:27:52.399
mandalorian season 3 ahsoka or the book
0:27:49.679,0:27:55.120
of boba fett or even the rumored luke
0:27:52.399,0:27:56.880
skywalker series that currently remains
0:27:55.120,0:27:57.919
unconfirmed
0:27:56.880,0:27:59.360
so
0:27:57.919,0:28:02.000
yeah it was
0:27:59.360,0:28:04.720
it was cool i don’t know why people were
0:28:02.000,0:28:06.960
upset i mean people were like on twitter
0:28:04.720,0:28:09.600
literally upset that it was
0:28:06.960,0:28:12.399
luke skywalker where i was like as happy
0:28:09.600,0:28:14.159
as khabib and crying happy tears that it
0:28:12.399,0:28:16.960
was luke skywalker well and like
0:28:14.159,0:28:18.960
everyone saw plokun dying
0:28:16.960,0:28:20.960
revenge of the sith so you kind of knew
0:28:18.960,0:28:23.279
it wasn’t going to be him
0:28:20.960,0:28:26.559
like you literally see him shot down and
0:28:23.279,0:28:27.760
and his fighter crash like if anyone’s
0:28:26.559,0:28:28.880
going to make it out of revenge of the
0:28:27.760,0:28:30.799
sith it’s probably going to be something
0:28:28.880,0:28:33.039
like samuel l jackson’s base windu
0:28:30.799,0:28:34.880
character okay right i could see that
0:28:33.039,0:28:36.159
had his arm chopped off was electrocuted
0:28:34.880,0:28:38.799
and thrown out a window but you already
0:28:36.159,0:28:40.240
saw him survive a massive fall in attack
0:28:38.799,0:28:41.120
of the clones
0:28:40.240,0:28:43.279
so
0:28:41.120,0:28:46.320
he’s probably alive
0:28:43.279,0:28:46.320
somewhere i don’t think
0:28:46.399,0:28:48.960
she never
0:28:47.919,0:28:51.279
knows
0:28:48.960,0:28:52.640
but he’s probably dead
0:28:51.279,0:28:54.480
anyway
0:28:52.640,0:28:56.399
that’s all we had for our tales from the
0:28:54.480,0:28:59.120

0:28:56.399,0:29:00.799
we’ll be back momentarily with our and

0:29:00.799,0:29:04.799
have another segment to do we’ll be back

0:30:19.360,0:30:24.799
go for entertainment news so cobra kai’s
0:30:22.640,0:30:28.240
fourth season won’t even debut on
0:30:24.799,0:30:30.480
netflix until december but the streamer
0:30:28.240,0:30:33.039
announced last week that the popular
0:30:30.480,0:30:36.960
series will be back for a fifth season
0:30:33.039,0:30:38.960
and series stars william zapka and ralph
0:30:36.960,0:30:40.159
macchio both
0:30:38.960,0:30:41.840
had
0:30:40.159,0:30:44.399
reacted to the news sharing their
0:30:41.840,0:30:46.960
excitement on social media so both
0:30:44.399,0:30:48.880
actors shared a short video clip that
0:30:46.960,0:30:51.120
also was shared by the show’s official
0:30:48.880,0:30:54.000
twitter to celebrate the next chapter in
0:30:51.120,0:30:57.679
the continuation of the iconic the
0:30:54.000,0:31:00.159
karate kid film franchise thank you fans
0:30:57.679,0:31:02.159
machio said more story coming to you
0:31:00.159,0:31:05.440
cobra kai series
0:31:02.159,0:31:07.760
season 5 starts filming soon uh zapka
0:31:05.440,0:31:10.640
for his part shared the same sentiment
0:31:07.760,0:31:13.679
on the official account that the dojo is
0:31:10.640,0:31:16.080
about to be five times as rad kobrakai
0:31:13.679,0:31:18.320
has been renewed for season five so
0:31:16.080,0:31:21.360
cobra kai is set over three decades
0:31:18.320,0:31:24.080
after the events of the 1984 all valley
0:31:21.360,0:31:27.120
karate tournament with the continuation
0:31:24.080,0:31:30.000
of the conflict between machios daniel
0:31:27.120,0:31:32.559
larusso and zapka’s johnny
0:31:30.000,0:31:34.799
lawrence with season four due out in
0:31:32.559,0:31:37.279
december it’s currently unclear where
0:31:34.799,0:31:40.399
season four and season five will take
0:31:37.279,0:31:43.360
the series but the series co-creator uh
0:31:40.399,0:31:45.360
john hurts uh suggested earlier this
0:31:43.360,0:31:48.480
year that there was a lot more story to
0:31:45.360,0:31:51.440
tell he said we’ve always had a set end
0:31:48.480,0:31:53.120
game and as to where the story is going
0:31:51.440,0:31:55.519
but we’ve said from the beginning that
0:31:53.120,0:31:58.159
we weren’t exactly sure how many seasons
0:31:55.519,0:32:00.480
it’ll take to get there we found even in
0:31:58.159,0:32:02.960
season one that when we were in the
0:32:00.480,0:32:05.679
writers room there were so many ideas
0:32:02.960,0:32:08.000
that we had that we just didn’t fit that
0:32:05.679,0:32:10.159
they didn’t fit into the five hours of
0:32:08.000,0:32:12.320
the first season so they ended up being
0:32:10.159,0:32:14.720
pushed into the next season then there
0:32:12.320,0:32:16.799
were ideas that we talked about uh at
0:32:14.720,0:32:18.960
the beginning of the show that showed up
0:32:16.799,0:32:21.039
in season three that now are going to
0:32:18.960,0:32:22.799
show up in season four and then there
0:32:21.039,0:32:25.760
are ideas that just kind of fell by the
0:32:22.799,0:32:27.919
wayside so there’s no added pressure to
0:32:25.760,0:32:30.320
elongate the series we’re still having a
0:32:27.919,0:32:32.960
blast making it there is still a lot
0:32:30.320,0:32:34.559
more story to tell in our minds we just
0:32:32.960,0:32:37.360
finished shooting season four and we
0:32:34.559,0:32:39.760
have a lot more that we’re excited to do
0:32:37.360,0:32:42.000
so we can’t tell you exactly how many
0:32:39.760,0:32:43.919
seasons we’re going to have but we know
0:32:42.000,0:32:46.480
that we’re going to enter each season
0:32:43.919,0:32:48.480
with enthusiasm and confidence
0:32:46.480,0:32:50.640
eventually we’ll talk to our friends at
0:32:48.480,0:32:52.240
sony and netflix and say we think this
0:32:50.640,0:32:54.320
is probably around the time we should be
0:32:52.240,0:32:56.799
winding it down and hopefully they’ll
0:32:54.320,0:32:59.360
give us the time to do it so we’ll see
0:32:56.799,0:33:01.440
so cobra kai season 4 will arrive on
0:32:59.360,0:33:03.279
netflix in december
0:33:01.440,0:33:05.519
the one thing encouraging thing that i
0:33:03.279,0:33:07.039
took away from this is that
0:33:05.519,0:33:09.440
they had
0:33:07.039,0:33:12.159
an end game in mind when they put this
0:33:09.440,0:33:13.679
whole plot series together yep and i
0:33:12.159,0:33:15.360
could see how they may have gone in
0:33:13.679,0:33:16.720
different directions they may have added
0:33:15.360,0:33:19.039
some additional
0:33:16.720,0:33:20.960
drama to it a little more relationship
0:33:19.039,0:33:22.000
stuff but they kind of knew where
0:33:20.960,0:33:24.240
they’re going they didn’t just sort of
0:33:22.000,0:33:25.120
start down this idea right and just kind
0:33:24.240,0:33:27.600
of
0:33:25.120,0:33:29.279
go with it and say yeah and it also
0:33:27.600,0:33:30.880
sounds like
0:33:29.279,0:33:32.799
they’re being given
0:33:30.880,0:33:35.039
the runway in order to tell this whole
0:33:32.799,0:33:37.760
story and they’re basically calling the
0:33:35.039,0:33:39.440
shots as to when it’s the story is done
0:33:37.760,0:33:40.960
which means you’re not gonna hopefully
0:33:39.440,0:33:42.799
you’re not gonna have it canceled in the
0:33:40.960,0:33:44.559
middle of the story without an ending
0:33:42.799,0:33:46.640
right right which is which is an
0:33:44.559,0:33:47.600
encouraging thing yeah and fortunately
0:33:46.640,0:33:50.399
each
0:33:47.600,0:33:51.919
season hasn’t been like a full year
0:33:50.399,0:33:54.080
because you you know you also get to the
0:33:51.919,0:33:56.960
point where they’re high school kids
0:33:54.080,0:34:00.320
right so you can only be in the house
0:33:56.960,0:34:02.240
too quickly for so long but usually each
0:34:00.320,0:34:04.880
you know it’s like usually two seasons
0:34:02.240,0:34:07.039
or kind of almost a year or not even
0:34:04.880,0:34:09.679
because they’re usually only 10
0:34:07.039,0:34:11.760
you know episodes so it’s not so they
0:34:09.679,0:34:13.359
can kind of elongate it but then you
0:34:11.760,0:34:14.240
have to be careful again because you do
0:34:13.359,0:34:15.839
have
0:34:14.240,0:34:17.919
you know
0:34:15.839,0:34:21.040
young actors that they don’t all of a
0:34:17.919,0:34:24.079
sudden look too old well and if anyone
0:34:21.040,0:34:26.399
can sympathize with that ralph macchio
0:34:24.079,0:34:27.839
because he was like 30 when he started
0:34:26.399,0:34:30.320
right
0:34:27.839,0:34:33.440
and he looks like he’s like 20 now right
0:34:30.320,0:34:36.159
he he hasn’t aged at all so yeah yeah
0:34:33.440,0:34:39.119
but yeah and and you know we both like
0:34:36.159,0:34:40.960
the the show absolutely yeah it kind of
0:34:39.119,0:34:42.480
it hits on all those touch points it’s a
0:34:40.960,0:34:44.800
little campy
0:34:42.480,0:34:46.879
it’s modernized but it’s campy in a good
0:34:44.800,0:34:49.440
way right like they’re not
0:34:46.879,0:34:51.760
they’re not relying on the past or
0:34:49.440,0:34:53.520
letting the past feed the present
0:34:51.760,0:34:55.040
um which is really nice especially some
0:34:53.520,0:34:58.320
of the stuff they did
0:34:55.040,0:35:00.400
with the trip to japan last season right
0:34:58.320,0:35:03.119
how they played that out and
0:35:00.400,0:35:04.880
saving the business and it’s very clever
0:35:03.119,0:35:07.040
the way that they’re doing these things
0:35:04.880,0:35:08.400
and it’s it’s not one of these where oh
0:35:07.040,0:35:10.480
well of course you’re gonna do that
0:35:08.400,0:35:12.400
because you know you’re gonna you’re
0:35:10.480,0:35:14.400
gonna wax the cars right you gotta do
0:35:12.400,0:35:17.119
that right but they haven’t waxed a car
0:35:14.400,0:35:19.280
yet nope you know there’s references to
0:35:17.119,0:35:20.960
it there’s there’s flashbacks to it
0:35:19.280,0:35:23.040
right there’s jokes about it like where
0:35:20.960,0:35:24.960
am i gonna do that right right so it’s
0:35:23.040,0:35:27.119
really clever cleverly done the way they
0:35:24.960,0:35:28.480
do it i give full props to the creators
0:35:27.119,0:35:31.040
yeah yeah
0:35:28.480,0:35:33.920
speaking of full props
0:35:31.040,0:35:36.079
marvel has decided to honor chadwick
0:35:33.920,0:35:38.880
boseman how’d they do that yeah so in
0:35:36.079,0:35:41.280
the second episode of marvel studios
0:35:38.880,0:35:43.599
animated series what if which is now
0:35:41.280,0:35:46.400
streaming on disney plus the late
0:35:43.599,0:35:49.680
chadwick boseman reprises his role as
0:35:46.400,0:35:52.240
t’challa so the actor originated the
0:35:49.680,0:35:55.680
role in the live action feature film
0:35:52.240,0:35:57.839
captain america civil war in 2016.
0:35:55.680,0:36:02.079
he returned for black panther and
0:35:57.839,0:36:04.800
avengers affinity war in 2018 as well as
0:36:02.079,0:36:07.280
avengers endgame in 2019
0:36:04.800,0:36:09.760
but what if marks the first time bozeman
0:36:07.280,0:36:10.800
voiced the character in an animated
0:36:09.760,0:36:12.960
project
0:36:10.800,0:36:15.440
sadly it also marks the last time that
0:36:12.960,0:36:18.160
the actor got to bring t’challa to life
0:36:15.440,0:36:21.359
before his tragic passing last year
0:36:18.160,0:36:23.119
he was so gracious executive producer uh
0:36:21.359,0:36:26.480
brad wendermar
0:36:23.119,0:36:28.960
tells d23 we were so fortunate to have
0:36:26.480,0:36:31.520
him record the series he reprised the
0:36:28.960,0:36:34.000
role of t’challa in at least four of the
0:36:31.520,0:36:36.160
different states uh i’m sorry in at
0:36:34.000,0:36:38.320
least four episodes in different
0:36:36.160,0:36:40.640
versions of the character reimagined
0:36:38.320,0:36:41.839
because of the different states of the
0:36:40.640,0:36:44.320
universe
0:36:41.839,0:36:46.400
he had we had no idea at the time when
0:36:44.320,0:36:48.400
he was recording with us that this would
0:36:46.400,0:36:50.800
be his final performance as the
0:36:48.400,0:36:53.760
character it was such an honor to have
0:36:50.800,0:36:56.400
had him record to have his presence in
0:36:53.760,0:36:59.040
the show his performance has the same
0:36:56.400,0:37:02.400
depth and the same impact that it does
0:36:59.040,0:37:06.160
in live action he uh alleviates the
0:37:02.400,0:37:07.200
material in an incredible way we were so
0:37:06.160,0:37:09.920
humbled
0:37:07.200,0:37:12.480
in the episode of what if t’tala the
0:37:09.920,0:37:16.800
young prince of wakanda is accidentally
0:37:12.480,0:37:18.960
abducted by yondu and becomes a ravager
0:37:16.800,0:37:21.520
known as star-lord throughout the galaxy
0:37:18.960,0:37:23.599
his reputation precedes him which comes
0:37:21.520,0:37:26.880
in handy when he crosses paths with the
0:37:23.599,0:37:28.880
likes of thanos uh nebula
0:37:26.880,0:37:31.040
and uh
0:37:28.880,0:37:33.680
correct korath the punisher just to name
0:37:31.040,0:37:36.240
a few pursuer pursuer sorry
0:37:33.680,0:37:38.640
t’challa is interesting because he’s not
0:37:36.240,0:37:41.680
a character who arcs himself the head
0:37:38.640,0:37:43.760
writer and executive producer ac bradley
0:37:41.680,0:37:45.599
said during a recent virtual press
0:37:43.760,0:37:47.599
conference for whatev
0:37:45.599,0:37:50.240
he said he’s a character who changes the
0:37:47.599,0:37:53.359
world around him he doesn’t go through a
0:37:50.240,0:37:55.760
transformation he transforms the world
0:37:53.359,0:37:58.640
so how would t’challa transform outer
0:37:55.760,0:38:01.200
space well director and producer
0:37:58.640,0:38:03.200
executive producer brian andrews had
0:38:01.200,0:38:06.320
said he was eager to work with bozeman
0:38:03.200,0:38:09.359
on what would ultimately be the actor’s
0:38:06.320,0:38:11.760
final performance of as t’challa he said
0:38:09.359,0:38:13.520
he was amazing we only got a moment
0:38:11.760,0:38:15.599
because our episodes are so short
0:38:13.520,0:38:17.920
compared to everyone who was able to
0:38:15.599,0:38:20.560
enjoy his presence on black panther or
0:38:17.920,0:38:22.960
even civil war we had him for a moment
0:38:20.560,0:38:25.200
to do our thing and we’re so grateful
0:38:22.960,0:38:27.440
for it he was actually one of the first
0:38:25.200,0:38:29.440
actors to sign on and say oh yeah i’m
0:38:27.440,0:38:31.599
going to do that voice
0:38:29.440,0:38:33.839
we were so excited because we really
0:38:31.599,0:38:36.560
really wanted to work with chadwick and
0:38:33.839,0:38:38.960
we loved black panther jeffrey wright
0:38:36.560,0:38:41.280
who voices the watcher said that he had
0:38:38.960,0:38:43.280
met bozeman several years ago at comic
0:38:41.280,0:38:44.160
con and had hoped to work with him ever
0:38:43.280,0:38:46.320
since
0:38:44.160,0:38:48.880
he said it was a lovely surprise to find
0:38:46.320,0:38:51.119
out that we would have the opportunity
0:38:48.880,0:38:52.880
at least to be in the same space with
0:38:51.119,0:38:55.200
what if um
0:38:52.880,0:38:57.040
this being his last performance i find
0:38:55.200,0:38:59.440
it very moving
0:38:57.040,0:39:01.040
i think this was probably
0:38:59.440,0:39:03.760
a great tribute
0:39:01.040,0:39:06.160
to the actor himself and the episode
0:39:03.760,0:39:08.560
itself is because the episode kind of
0:39:06.160,0:39:10.800
really embodies
0:39:08.560,0:39:13.200
the spirit of the character that he
0:39:10.800,0:39:15.440
brought to life definitely and you look
0:39:13.200,0:39:17.440
back on it and there are some characters
0:39:15.440,0:39:19.440
that you can’t see a different actor
0:39:17.440,0:39:22.160
playing like you couldn’t see anybody
0:39:19.440,0:39:25.280
but robert downey jr playing iron man
0:39:22.160,0:39:27.280
right i can’t see anybody playing
0:39:25.280,0:39:29.359
t’challa other than chadwick boseman at
0:39:27.280,0:39:31.440
this point he just owned the character
0:39:29.359,0:39:33.440
and and that was one of the things too
0:39:31.440,0:39:36.560
after he passed away
0:39:33.440,0:39:38.720
fans were like please don’t replace him
0:39:36.560,0:39:41.200
there needs to be a new
0:39:38.720,0:39:43.440
black panther in the storyline but you
0:39:41.200,0:39:46.800
can’t have somebody else come in and
0:39:43.440,0:39:49.599
fill his role and and he embodied the
0:39:46.800,0:39:52.000
character in real life with
0:39:49.599,0:39:54.160
the way that he
0:39:52.000,0:39:55.760
portrayed himself the way that his
0:39:54.160,0:39:58.720
charitable nature
0:39:55.760,0:40:02.400
you know the fact that he was so helpful
0:39:58.720,0:40:05.040
to up-and-coming actors so grateful to
0:40:02.400,0:40:07.040
the people that gave him his start he
0:40:05.040,0:40:08.800
really embodied everything that that
0:40:07.040,0:40:10.720
character was
0:40:08.800,0:40:13.359
and you you look at the character and
0:40:10.720,0:40:15.839
and they’re one and the same almost yeah
0:40:13.359,0:40:18.560
uh so it was very nice to see the the
0:40:15.839,0:40:20.880
touching tribute that they did
0:40:18.560,0:40:23.040
uh that was all we had for our
0:40:20.880,0:40:25.440
entertainment news this week yep we’ll
0:40:23.040,0:40:27.890
be right back with our insightful picks
0:40:25.440,0:40:30.840
of the week
0:40:27.890,0:40:32.000
[Applause]
0:40:30.840,0:40:34.400
[Music]
0:40:32.000,0:40:38.680
go for your insightful pick so my
0:40:34.400,0:40:38.680
insightful p p p
0:40:39.920,0:40:49.280
my insightful pick of the week is a 2015
0:40:44.640,0:40:52.560
gothic romance uh called crimson peak
0:40:49.280,0:40:55.920
it was directed by guillermo del toro
0:40:52.560,0:40:59.440
written by toro and matthew robbins uh
0:40:55.920,0:41:01.200
the film stars i’m probably gonna mess
0:40:59.440,0:41:03.839
up everybody’s names so the only one
0:41:01.200,0:41:08.800
i’ll tell you is tom hiddleston
0:41:03.839,0:41:11.839
uh and jessica chastain uh jim beaver um
0:41:08.800,0:41:14.480
so the story is set in victorian era
0:41:11.839,0:41:17.440
england and follows an aspiring author
0:41:14.480,0:41:19.280
who travels to a remote gothic mansion
0:41:17.440,0:41:21.200
in the english hills with her new
0:41:19.280,0:41:23.359
husband and his sister
0:41:21.200,0:41:26.079
there she must decipher the mystery
0:41:23.359,0:41:28.000
behind the ghostly visions that haunt
0:41:26.079,0:41:30.160
her new home
0:41:28.000,0:41:33.119
it was funny because people were
0:41:30.160,0:41:36.160
actually talking about this
0:41:33.119,0:41:38.480
because of the set design and how it has
0:41:36.160,0:41:42.560
a very haunted mansion
0:41:38.480,0:41:45.839
look to it um it is that kind of
0:41:42.560,0:41:48.880
boo scare you type of horror movie
0:41:45.839,0:41:50.000
you know a little bit of gore uh
0:41:48.880,0:41:53.040
here too
0:41:50.000,0:41:55.680
but it’s a little bit of a mystery as
0:41:53.040,0:41:57.839
well like you kind of know where it’s
0:41:55.680,0:42:00.640
going but you’re not really
0:41:57.839,0:42:03.280
a hundred percent sure until the end so
0:42:00.640,0:42:04.000
it’s kind of that suspenseful
0:42:03.280,0:42:07.440
uh
0:42:04.000,0:42:10.240
scare you type uh horror movie but again
0:42:07.440,0:42:12.800
beautiful sets if if you like that kind
0:42:10.240,0:42:16.480
of gothic
0:42:12.800,0:42:17.760
almost steampunk in a way victorian
0:42:16.480,0:42:19.520
style
0:42:17.760,0:42:22.000
and to see
0:42:19.520,0:42:23.119
you know tom hiddleston is kind of a
0:42:22.000,0:42:25.119
a jerk
0:42:23.119,0:42:27.040
a character like you think he’s all
0:42:25.119,0:42:30.400
loving and you know
0:42:27.040,0:42:32.640
surprise he’s not but is he you know and
0:42:30.400,0:42:35.839
and you know various ghosts that kind of
0:42:32.640,0:42:38.640
come and are giving hints to to help
0:42:35.839,0:42:41.040
this bride kind of survive the the
0:42:38.640,0:42:42.960
mansion and stuff so if you’re into you
0:42:41.040,0:42:46.000
know spooky horror things we’re coming
0:42:42.960,0:42:48.400
on the halloween season not a bad movie
0:42:46.000,0:42:50.880
to uh to watch and it’s on netflix so
0:42:48.400,0:42:54.800
cool thank you
0:42:50.880,0:42:57.359
[Applause]
0:42:54.800,0:42:59.520
so my pick this week in case you missed
0:42:57.359,0:43:01.599
the foreshadowing from our tales from
0:42:59.520,0:43:02.720
the edge of the galaxy
0:43:01.599,0:43:05.839
is
0:43:02.720,0:43:08.880
disney gallery mandalorian season 2
0:43:05.839,0:43:10.960
finale i had no idea i know it comes as
0:43:08.880,0:43:12.880
a real shocker doesn’t it
0:43:10.960,0:43:15.200
in last year’s season two finale the
0:43:12.880,0:43:17.520
mandalorian the appearance of a young
0:43:15.200,0:43:19.440
luke skywalker was one of the biggest
0:43:17.520,0:43:22.160
reveals and best kept secrets of the
0:43:19.440,0:43:24.400
acclaimed show thus far
0:43:22.160,0:43:27.280
reaction to the episode was emotionally
0:43:24.400,0:43:30.000
charged for many deeply resonating with
0:43:27.280,0:43:32.400
generations of fans who were elated to
0:43:30.000,0:43:35.200
see the jedi master in his post-star
0:43:32.400,0:43:37.280
wars return of the jedi prime
0:43:35.200,0:43:40.319
the story of the cutting-edge technology
0:43:37.280,0:43:43.280
used to bring back to bring luke back is
0:43:40.319,0:43:44.880
the subject of a special extra episode
0:43:43.280,0:43:48.160
of disney
0:43:44.880,0:43:50.880
uh gallery star wars the mandalorian
0:43:48.160,0:43:53.040
which the show debuted the actual uh
0:43:50.880,0:43:55.520
documentary debuted on august 25th on
0:43:53.040,0:43:58.079
disney plus
0:43:55.520,0:43:59.760
making of the season 2 finale
0:43:58.079,0:44:01.760
is a behind the scenes look at the
0:43:59.760,0:44:03.040
making of the celebrated chapter of the
0:44:01.760,0:44:05.280
mandalorian
0:44:03.040,0:44:07.680
with a focus on the technology used for
0:44:05.280,0:44:10.160
re-creating luke skywalker
0:44:07.680,0:44:12.480
it delves into the collaborative process
0:44:10.160,0:44:14.319
including working with mark hamill to
0:44:12.480,0:44:17.119
create an authentic and fitting
0:44:14.319,0:44:18.800
recreation and explores the immense
0:44:17.119,0:44:21.280
pressure and responsibility the
0:44:18.800,0:44:23.599
filmmakers had in bringing back one of
0:44:21.280,0:44:25.119
the most important characters in film
0:44:23.599,0:44:26.800
history
0:44:25.119,0:44:29.280
disney gallery the mandalorian was an
0:44:26.800,0:44:31.599
insightful pick previously for both its
0:44:29.280,0:44:33.520
season one and season two documentaries
0:44:31.599,0:44:34.400
on the mandalorian so i’ve gone through
0:44:33.520,0:44:35.920
well
0:44:34.400,0:44:38.079
a few times on this one here because
0:44:35.920,0:44:40.000
it’s a really good show yeah
0:44:38.079,0:44:41.839
we’ve enjoyed all of what the series has
0:44:40.000,0:44:43.680
had to offer so far
0:44:41.839,0:44:46.000
but this episode was a little extra
0:44:43.680,0:44:48.800
special because of the subject
0:44:46.000,0:44:51.520
and watching the final season
0:44:48.800,0:44:54.800
of uh final episode of season two i had
0:44:51.520,0:44:56.640
already read the spoilers as i often do
0:44:54.800,0:44:58.560
i knew what was going to happen who it
0:44:56.640,0:45:00.000
was going to be and how it was going to
0:44:58.560,0:45:01.760
happen
0:45:00.000,0:45:03.680
even going into the episode with that
0:45:01.760,0:45:05.520
for knowledge i still couldn’t help but
0:45:03.680,0:45:07.520
get choked up for the last 10 minutes or
0:45:05.520,0:45:09.599
so of the episode
0:45:07.520,0:45:11.040
going into the making of the episode you
0:45:09.599,0:45:12.560
think i’ve gotten rid of all that
0:45:11.040,0:45:15.280
giddiness right
0:45:12.560,0:45:17.200
but no i was an 11 year old little boy
0:45:15.280,0:45:18.880
once again reliving all the memories and
0:45:17.200,0:45:20.480
emotions of my youth
0:45:18.880,0:45:22.400
pretty much through the entire episode
0:45:20.480,0:45:24.000
of the documentary
0:45:22.400,0:45:26.720
as with the previous episodes the
0:45:24.000,0:45:29.200
documentary uh they managed to capture
0:45:26.720,0:45:31.839
the behind the scenes field just right
0:45:29.200,0:45:33.680
you get the passion and emotion of the
0:45:31.839,0:45:36.000
producers directors actors and the
0:45:33.680,0:45:37.599
effects people which in and of itself is
0:45:36.000,0:45:39.760
infectious
0:45:37.599,0:45:42.240
you get to see the different options for
0:45:39.760,0:45:44.400
de-aging mark hamill as explained in
0:45:42.240,0:45:47.040
plain english by john favreau because
0:45:44.400,0:45:49.119
it’s a very technical process
0:45:47.040,0:45:52.000
you’re given a peek behind the curtain
0:45:49.119,0:45:53.520
at the challenges of keeping the secret
0:45:52.000,0:45:55.280
and the deceptions which we already
0:45:53.520,0:45:57.440
talked about
0:45:55.280,0:45:59.119
and you also get to see the
0:45:57.440,0:46:02.000
filming of the scenes from different
0:45:59.119,0:46:04.160
angles and then you get to relive relive
0:46:02.000,0:46:05.839
the giddiness all over again with that
0:46:04.160,0:46:07.440
last scene
0:46:05.839,0:46:09.760
now it’s also worth noting that the
0:46:07.440,0:46:11.760
television academy recognized the second
0:46:09.760,0:46:14.960
season of the mandalorian
0:46:11.760,0:46:17.760
with 24 emmy award nominations including
0:46:14.960,0:46:19.280
best drama series all of which were well
0:46:17.760,0:46:21.280
deserved
0:46:19.280,0:46:22.640
my pick this week is disney gallery
0:46:21.280,0:46:26.640
mandalorian
0:46:22.640,0:46:28.960
the season 2 finale on disney plus
0:46:26.640,0:46:31.240
and we’ll be right back with our
0:46:28.960,0:46:34.180
afterthoughts
0:46:31.240,0:46:36.640
[Applause]
0:46:34.180,0:46:39.040
[Music]
0:46:36.640,0:46:42.720
after thoughts all right so this
0:46:39.040,0:46:45.119
saturday is the free toy show uh which
0:46:42.720,0:46:48.400
is in the sicklerville area at the
0:46:45.119,0:46:50.640
carnival of collectibles again the
0:46:48.400,0:46:53.599
just the carnival of collectibles as a
0:46:50.640,0:46:55.359
very interesting and unique place to go
0:46:53.599,0:46:57.119
and kind of explore
0:46:55.359,0:46:58.960
because you never know what kind of
0:46:57.119,0:47:00.880
stuff you’re going to find but they’re
0:46:58.960,0:47:03.920
going to have a bunch of tables set up
0:47:00.880,0:47:07.520
for a toy show as well
0:47:03.920,0:47:10.640
then in a couple of weeks
0:47:07.520,0:47:14.000
also from toyshow.org is the delaware
0:47:10.640,0:47:16.640
train show and the oktoberfest toy show
0:47:14.000,0:47:19.599
october 9th and october 10th
0:47:16.640,0:47:20.800
at the nurse shrine center in newcastle
0:47:19.599,0:47:24.359
delaware
0:47:20.800,0:47:26.079
then in two weeks from this weekend is
0:47:24.359,0:47:28.640
retrocon
0:47:26.079,0:47:32.240
uh september 25th and 26th at the
0:47:28.640,0:47:35.119
greater philadelphia expo center in oaks
0:47:32.240,0:47:39.599
also that weekend in hunt valley
0:47:35.119,0:47:43.119
maryland is monster mania 47
0:47:39.599,0:47:45.599
then monster media 48 will be coming to
0:47:43.119,0:47:49.920
the greater philadelphia expo center in
0:47:45.599,0:47:52.400
oaks october 22nd through the 24th
0:47:49.920,0:47:54.960
the first weekend in october is
0:47:52.400,0:47:57.440
brickfest also at the greater
0:47:54.960,0:47:59.839
philadelphia expo center so if you are
0:47:57.440,0:48:03.040
into legos and
0:47:59.839,0:48:06.160
building and all things brick this is
0:48:03.040,0:48:08.319
definitely the event for you see the
0:48:06.160,0:48:09.680
greater expo greater philosophy expert
0:48:08.319,0:48:11.680
center is greater now just because so
0:48:09.680,0:48:13.599
much stuff is there yeah pretty much not
0:48:11.680,0:48:15.359
just because they say it’s greater yeah
0:48:13.599,0:48:17.040
pretty much almost every weekend there’s
0:48:15.359,0:48:19.200
probably something
0:48:17.040,0:48:21.680
you know going on they sometimes have
0:48:19.200,0:48:23.359
golf expos there’s usually a psychic
0:48:21.680,0:48:25.440
fare expo
0:48:23.359,0:48:27.280
uh the psychic fair we should go to that
0:48:25.440,0:48:28.880
we’ve never gone to that one that sounds
0:48:27.280,0:48:30.400
like it’d be interesting
0:48:28.880,0:48:31.839
would you really go to that yeah that
0:48:30.400,0:48:34.400
would be kind of cool
0:48:31.839,0:48:36.319
okay because i’d go yeah
0:48:34.400,0:48:39.040
i think that’d be neat
0:48:36.319,0:48:40.880
okay i think the one time we went it was
0:48:39.040,0:48:42.960
going on one of the other halls yeah i
0:48:40.880,0:48:45.119
can’t remember what was it when we went
0:48:42.960,0:48:46.880
to brickfest i think it was because that
0:48:45.119,0:48:49.680
was when they
0:48:46.880,0:48:52.559
because they have like four different
0:48:49.680,0:48:54.800
entrances so but they all open up in the
0:48:52.559,0:48:56.559
into one into one big one if they wanted
0:48:54.800,0:48:58.800
to so yeah yeah that would be kind of
0:48:56.559,0:49:00.000
interesting we’ll have to look
0:48:58.800,0:49:02.079
but anyway
0:49:00.000,0:49:04.960
i think that’s it for today before we do
0:49:02.079,0:49:06.640
